Likely the most interesting part of this morning’s column is towards the end.  In the Around the Ranch (ATR) section with a side of woo-woo.  But first, some nominal “news” since that’s our starting point.

Meanwhile, though, the Futility of News is catching on.  As we have explained many times, it’s OK not to give a rip about the fearmongering, meme parroting media.  Deets in It’s back to the future for a diminished digital news business | Semafor, as the digitals pile on.

CFNAI

The Chicago Fed National Activity Index (CFNAI) was –0.19 in February, down from +0.23 in January.  Now, someone hand me the envelope, please?

“The Chicago Fed National Activity Index (CFNAI) was unchanged at –0.19 in March. Three of the four broad categories of indicators used to construct the index made negative contributions in March, and two categories deteriorated from February. The index’s three-month moving average, CFNAI-MA3, increased to +0.01 in March from –0.09 in February.”

Revelatory Linguistics for the New Reader:  We enjoy feeble-minded (bullshit-revealed) half-think phrases like “negative contribution.”  See, in the wordsmithing world, a contribution is always a giving of something. A non-giving is a TAKING. Or, a LOSS.  Thus, as we simplify for understanding, it becomes clear the “negative contribution” is K-12 Hocus Pokus from sick and jumbled minds incapable of producing straight lines of thought.  Was it a contribution?  (As in the OEDs notion of “a gift or payment to”) NO, NO, NO.  Call it what it IS because we can all unpack bullshit like this pretty easily. This is why we’re screwed as a country.  We can’t tell a contribution from a stick-up or loss.  Beware, lest we banish Birthdays and call them Pre-Death Days.  See how this stinks? “I will give you a negative contribution for your next Pre-Death Day.”  Yeah…the insanity is everywhere.

In overseas markets, Europe looks downish, Bitcoin was down in the $27,300 range early.  For people who don’t mind losing 10-percent in five days, or less it’s been great, lately.

The GOP is in the same boat, though.  At a time when America needs a third party and something other than refried birth control and gun grabs, it would be nice for EITHER party to articulate the New American Future.

The condition of the world does explain why an increasing number of under 30-somethings are rediscovering religion.  “Oh God, what a mess.”  It’s the digital remake of “There are no atheists in foxholes.”  Usually, in a World War actual physical countries are involved.  But modern warfare keeps evolving.

OK, not a big “news budget” today.  But there was an interruption of my planned Sunday Morse code session on the 20-meter ham band.

Not very surprisingly, since Einstein showed matter can be expanded as energy – a reaction we’ve long-suspected is a two-way street, here comes more support for our crackpot ideas.  Just as the energy burst struck: M 7.1 – Kermadec Islands, New Zealand (usgs.gov).

Now into the Woo-Woo Department

I’ve written to you over the years about knowing “things in advance.”  Big ones like the Deepwater Horizon, and smaller ones – like avoiding a highway where a fatal accident occurred when we would have been there.

The discovery this weekend was there seems to be another – less studied way – that human’s “express future” in advance.  We might just not appreciate it.

Take this energy burst, for example.  Not only might this be part of what the RV people were telling us about a few months back, but unconsciously the geomagnetic storm may have triggered a “pre-emptive shopping” response.

It began with an inkling – one of those mental itch things that knocked around in the back of my head.  Almost a “self-protection” vibe to it., I felt compelled last week to get more personal grounding material.

Having a credit card and an Amazon account, I got to work.  Another grounding rod (for outside the office), copper-infused grounding socks, and this gem:

Weird, right?  I got this itch in my head that went to the idea “grounding will be important” and WHAM!  Here comes a sun burst literally withing 24 hours of my grounding stuff showing up.

It’s not the FIRST time that “shopping the future” has shown up, either. I told you last week that on the way to pick up groceries in town, I had a flat tire on Elaine’s car.  Changing tires in a sandy ditch of a county road with no home in sight is not especially bright.  But the whole time I was jacking up the car, I was thinking about this Amazon purchase that had arrived in advance:

See it?  I had something approaching foreknowledge of the “coming to a Life near George” way back in February.  Ordered and promptly left the jack in the shop after testing it out.

I had PLANNED to put it in the truck of the Lexus for over a month.

Why, I can almost hear God/Universe/GAOTU laughing his/her’s ass off.  “I gave you more than a month to get the jack in the Lexus and you still f**ked it up!”

Yes, maybe so, Mr. Almighty Who-zit.  But don’t I get “Good little understudy in training for some real Creation work some of these days…” credit for at least getting the electric jack?

    It is Numbers….what is keeping the USA economy afloat is the NUMBERS.. people are surviving on plastic.. at the gas station when I worked as the book keeper for a day.. the biggest thing I seen was..over ninty percent of sales was plastic..
    it is what is keeping this country moving.. the imbalance is the projection… and it is going strong now because everyone sees what is going on and are afraid .. if I wait the cost will be to high.. or it won’t be available.. so they are spending even more to get it before the opportunity is gone to get it..
    the economic death spiral.. look at your stash of toilet paper and bleach.. my guess is you have a few rolls more now than two years ago.. it is because you ran out and couldn’t get any.. the same thing..

      • Oh it is like ours.. ours is unchanged to.. the reason for that is.. you were already aware of what was going on.. and had a few rolls on the shelf.. those that only bought enough to get from one payday to the next.. were caught without any..they panicked.. fought over tp in the isles..
        its not having any.. or the lack of being able to get any that has one feeling the desperation of the situation.. Once you live through a desperate situation you won’t want to ever do that again.. I almost starved to death in the seventies.. had to beat grain fallen from a farmers wiggle wagon to make a crude gruel.. the desperation was intense.. the situation dire at best.. most people would freak out I was saved by an unseen caring person..my best and worst christmas ever.. I swore two things.. one I would never starve like that again… and I would never forget where I had been and would help others in a similar situation the way someone helped me..
        the wife thought I was barking mad.. some mad dog on the hill howling at the moon.. then we went a year without an income.. the va had their collection company.. ( the IRS ) tap the checking account every month even if you don’t have any funds in the bank the bank pays them.. you pay the bank back.. the average wage earner is two maybe three paychecks from being homeless.. don’t pay the water bill.. the water is shut off.. can’t pay the heat.. don’t pay your taxes or loan payments.. how long would you still be where you are..
        People don’t want to give up the luxury things that make their quality of life.. so they do anything they can to maintain that level of life… ever see anyone in deep pain.. they will take anything no matter what it does to them to rid them of that pain.. overdose.. even become addicted to what gives them relief.. then as the body gets acustomed to it.. they increase the dosage to get that level of pain relief.. ( they should legalize marijuana.. its not as harsh on the body and does the same thing that opium does.. without the physical damage.. but hey that is a different debate subject.)

        • Marijuana is legal in my state, and I’ve no interest in it since I don’t react to it at all. I believe in legalizing all drugs – it would be good for society in so many ways. We won’t stop addicts from getting their fix regardless of legality – it’s the lack of access to other – politically unapproved drugs that either makes normal citizens into criminals, and/or takes away useful drugs and other substances from those who can benefit from them.

    • In 1972 the Matson shipping company that is based in Hawaii went on strike for months. Container shipping of supplies to Hawaii halted. One of the things Hawaii ran out of was toilet paper. This is legendary among the older folks in Hawaii, and with every hurricane alert here now, the populace stocks up on hurricane supplies, and… toilet paper. This morphs into ‘every emergency’. Now along comes Covid. Some Hawaii resident Tweets or puts on Facebook that the Kona Costco store has run out of toilet paper. Now there is no reason to stock up on TP for Covid, but the national exposure triggers a mob response… not just in Hawaii. I watched it happen in Jan. 2020. Y’all can blame Hawaii for the toilet paper mania that has since become legendary. Why the hell do we need extra TP for a respiratory virus? Like sheep… all follow.

    A very interesting conumdrum you question here, as it involves whether or not the demonrat party survives this coming election cycle..the reaction/puchback from populous is bordering on violence, the demons(on both sides of isle) have so F-ed things up that the general reaction I am hearing on the streets is one of DISGUST. Gone is any respect for anything, or anybody..DISGUST.

Why oh why is it that car manufacturers cannot address some sort of on board lift system, either hydraulic or electric, that at least assists with the use of a decent jack, not those crappy useless things that are hidden somewhere behind/under something in most vehicles? I have never in all the years I have operated a vehicle experienced a flat in anything but less than stellar conditions. They have all occurred during a blizzard, while it was raining, on unpaved areas, in the wrong angle, sunk into 12 inches of mud, while surrounded and taking heavy fire, and without the proper tools. Even changed a flat on a girlfriends VW bug with a pair of cheap Chinese vice grips during a snow storm once. And yes she was worth it.

    • I think it makes sense – especially for those with physical impairments, to carry a better jack, a large base for mud, clay, or sand, such as a 2×10 slab, and a battery powered impact wrench with the proper sockets. This especially applies if you have 8 lug wheels – they can get tire-some! If I can afford the space and weight, I carry an aluminum “racing” style hydraulic jack from Harbor Fright. They’re cheap enough and I use them for all kinds of things. They also have cheap and reliable impact wrenches. (no affiliation w/ HF). I also like to carry a strong breaker bar and pipe for the one nut that gets stuck beyond the ability of the impact gun. Occasionally, some types of steel like to rust/weld themselves to the brake disk or drum. A heavy sledge hammer often helps that, as does anti-seize used in advance. At this point in life I have no problems with physical work, but that may well change over the next decade or so.

      • Don’t carry impact wrench — do carry cheater bar. I learned many years ago that idiot “repairmen” screwed those lug nuts down with a CP or IR impact set at 400 lb ft.

        Someone once had a self-jacking car — Might’ve been Studebaker (because they did lots of innovation) or Packard (who bagged their fancier cars to facilitate an automatic self-leveling suspension) both back in the 1950s and before they became the same company…

    now ya need an electric wrench to remove and install the lug nuts to torque specs,,, I carry an old beam style Craftsman torque wrench in the “boot” with the jack. I AM a ‘luddite’. Don’t forget, them there fancy alloy rims need to be retorqued after a few miles, after a wheel/tire change.

    • I carry a short length of pipe to slip over the tire iron for extra leverage. I also carry a hydraulic jack instead of the manufacture supplied scissor jack.

    • Apparently Dan Bongino is out, too. They “couldn’t come to contract terms” which translates to: FOX changed their terms to “If we broadcast it, we own it.” Bongino’s podcast originates on Rumble (I think), but was being simulcast by FOX Nation.     • Any thing requiring a fix before TSHTF can be called a blessing. I’m surprised I still have the old tires on my diesel truck. I thought they’d be needing replacing within about 6+ months last year but at least I do have the new set waiting in the barn.

      Unfortunately the dump truck is going to need new tires before then and the ones in the barn are 18″ while the dump truck’s are 16″ and a dually to boot. At least the smaller size means a smaller price from what I can tell looking on line the past hour or so. Luckily the dump truck is in the driveway on concrete. My fear up until now as I watched the rocks tear off chunks of tread over the past couple of years has been having a flat in the middle of the pasture on soft ground and a full load in the bed. Not an ideal situation. I took off to the ranch with a load of leaves a while ago and there was a very obvious flippity-flippity-flippity of a piece of tread that’s about to come off. The rocks at the ranch have no mercy on tires so the old Coopers are going to probably get changed out for BFGoodrich tires that have made a very good showing on the diesel truck. New Coopers are even more according to Discount Tire which really surprised me.

          That’s what set him apart. Carlson writes his own monologues and scripts, as does Bongino (as did Glenn Beck and Andrew Wilcow when they were on FOX.) Greg Gutfeld follows the Johnny Carson model. He doesn’t write his own scripts, but has a small staff of joke-writers, including Kat Timpf, who write it for him and whom he, not FOX employs… Timpf is a FOX employee, but not a FOX “asset” and writing for “Gutfeld!” is a side-hustle and separate from FOXNews.

    The Feb 2020 crash devaluation for the composite Wilshire self- assembled from its 2/19/2020 valuation peak to its 3/23/2020 nadir into two short daily decay fractal series: 3/6/6/5 days (4 phase) and 2/4/4 days (3 phase) and was contained in a larger 1/31/2020 to 3/23/2020 7/14/17 day (3 phase) decay series.

    The larger containment decay series for the 2023 crash is a 3/13/2023
    9(x)/22 of 23-24/21-22 day (3 phase) series with a lower high peak valuation on 14 April, day 18 (2x) of the 23 day second fractal. It will be interesting to observe the self-assembly of the shorter decay series from the 14 April 2023 lower high peak valuation.

    From the 8 November 2021 Bitcoin and Wilshire daily average valuation high, the Wilshire is following a 16/34(ideal base 14 x’)/29 of 33 week reflexive decay, intermediate and end growth, and end decay series with week 28 2x’ of the third fractal the lower high valuation.

    While the crash devaluation is an expected natural and mathematically ordered nonlinear event in the QE/QT asset-debt system; linear reasoning will seek an alternative explanation for the crash.

    It will be interesting to see if the 15-ballot elected House Speaker can range in the small anarchist group to pass a debt ceiling increase. Market ‘nervousness’ about the potential risk for US sovereign debt default could serve as a possible linear thought process explanation.

    • Applying Occam’s razor to Carlson’s departure from FOX, I would surmise the legal department cast the deciding vote, and no one had a leg to stand on in defense; that is, money talked, and Tucker walked.

    • I just had someone point out yesterday the empty businesses.. in a strip mall..
      Right now.. from my position in society.. the people I know are spending to get things that may not be around in the near future.. we see our govt. torking off the countries that we rely on for our goods .. brick and mortar costs money.. you go to the store and buy this or that.. they in turn have to buy it and then pay transportation calculate in all the environmental expenses labor etc.. then pass on those costs to the customer.. right now people are still buying in fear.. prices are soaring faster than income.. this will change.. because people will eventually run out of plastic to buy.. prices will outpace them and they will pull in and go poverty economics.. and only pay for essentials.. since the average is juggling now to meet essential costs increases.. and the govt.. stopped the EIC tax credit for those on set incomes.. they can’t spend it.. its only good if the economy is moving.. the velocity of cash is what makes it worth while.. once you can’t.. it will start to invert and more people will become jobless or have to limit what they buy etc..

  18. After hearing about all the overnight solar activity that gave us auroras down to Tennessee (I’m in S. Indiana), it made sense to me as to why I slept, maybe, 3 hours all night. I also found it interesting that my power company paid me a call this morning about switching out some of my meter components due to a “spike” in electricity in the past 12 hours. Lol, well… Guess I’m lucky we didn’t have an electrical house fire.

I “KNOW” the end is not yet here since the NEW small inverter Generator (Wen, the cheap competitor to the Honda 2000) I got for the camper two summers ago is still in the box and has not yet even been broken in. Haven’t taken the camper anywhere where I would need to use a generator, YET, so just left it in the box. Time to get it fired up and broken in?

    Now if the SHTF before I get the thing broken in and ready to power the camper (in addition to the solar panels I carry) I WILL be pissed!!, but I don’t think that will happen since I usually get things finally “ready” just before they are needed.
