The Easter Woo

In addition to the usual news analysis and cynical eyes on the markets, we venture off into woo-woo land today.  Holiday weekend, time for mind to wander, that sort of thing. As you will see, there’s some reason to do so.

As one AI explained “it may be a calibration event.”

If you’re not joining in the speculative side of speculation with us, here’s hoping you have a great Easter weekend..

        • We will cautiously toss out one-liners toward the Big Island until we ascertain how much of the bad puns around here actually work on seirous drugs. I’ve been doing some experiments but…er…who took the lighter?

        • Too late. Hip is ripped. And I’ve got PILLS! The night of surgery, the Oxycodone did nothing for me but keep me awake in pain. The pain is morphed to damaged muscles and tendons now, and NSAIDS work better. Strong Tylenol and Celebrex is on the menu, as well as gabapentin. They gave me this cool little circulating ice water pump with pad that chills the spots, reduces inflammation, and numbs it cold. Trying to sleep on my back with a ‘straight leg protocol’ is bad. I’m a side sleeper… but not for a few weeks of healing.
But Mike is still a serial punster. Beware!

        • Here’s to your speedy recovery. And, have you ever taken the high speed Morse code on drugs test? W1AW may be audible from time to time on the Big Island. Advice from Elaine is don’t miss your PT – it’s a critical part of recovery…

        • Morse code on drugs? ROFL! I can’t do it when I’m sober! Roger on the PT. I’ve got a walker, and the isometric exercises for the muscle groups when laying flat. It’s like having a massively sprained joint with torn tendons. Doc has to disconnect a bunch of stuff to replace that ball joint. So it is massive sprain recovery, and that stuff takes 6-8 weeks just to reconnect and heal. And then there’s stretching afterwards. Collagen, calcium, magnesium, silica, and boron, along with extra vitamin D.

Getting wheeled into the Ortho OR was a trip, before the lights went out. It looked like a huge automotive chop-shop! Huge stainless workbench across the back wall, filled with a tool slut’s dreams. Drills, saws, mallets, tools and parts galore! And the nurses in Iso-balloon suits ready to install my new ball-drive shaft. LOL!
(Sorry… maybe it IS the drugs!)

  2. BCN(wadsworth) : very interesting prose. I am sorely tempted to get toe deep in crypto but doubt it will involve a wallet in cold storage. Possibly an ETF going long / short (maybe levered?) seems legit. Otherwise, nope, we B more inclined to stare at a shiny baubel in hand.

Not ^ that (made up token) but something golden, or silver sheen? Now we’re talkin’ … talking books. It’s the most Gen Z unsettling that we should promote FOMO and YOLO when … that’s in conflict with purported store of value notion.

Look, best of luck. I am _way_ more likely to trade a derivative within classic brokerage umbrella than in wallet. Note: trade. Given the crypto markets trade 24/7 it’s doubtful I’ll ever hold a derivative security overnight, let alone through the weekend. Which, is also entirely opposite irt: metals holding.

  3. The official Covid 19 origins report is out:

    https://www.zerohedge.com/covid-19/lab-leak-white-house-unveils-massive-report-true-origins-covid-19

I don’t think it’s findings differ significantly from the congressional minority report which was release several years back, just more details. Main difference now is that Fauci is sporting a presidential pardon. As far as I know, Daszak is still fair game for a WMD biological prosecution. Whether it was accidental or otherwise release is irrelevant; US government funds were involved in support of research which was banned in the country, leading to WMD global level deaths. Accountability and justice.

Fortunately for all of us, natural mutation and propagation of the virus in the wild dropped the weapons grade lethality of the Rev 2 virus down to seasonal cold levels, so that natural immunity has displaced efficacy of the ever-toxic vaccines. The initial virus release was a WMD event.

  4. Time to stock up on that HAM … if you are a pork eater like I am.

Around here two of the stores have spiral sliced hams for $.79/lb, one of them having their version of Honey Baked Ham for that price (very tasty – normally sells for about $4.69/lb). Unfortunately this time around Walmart has much higher prices compared to other places so if Walmart is your only option then you might not find such a good sale.

$55 hams for $12 sounds like a good deal to me!! so I ALWAYS take advantage of those kind of seasonal sales and stock the fridge and freezer (so the same thing with Turkeys at Thanksgiving/Christmas can’t resist those $.17/lb and $.29/lb sales). Too bad there aren’t 80% off sales for beef products … if there were I would buy a bigger freezer!

Next big pork sale won’t be until Thanksgiving, stock up now

    • Taste is subjective. Yesterday I bought an $0.89/lb ham and cracked it open. To me it tasted like cheap meat.

The ham did not taste like ham but had three distinct flavors – spices/salt/and watered down pork. I don’t know much about meat processing but I’d bet this $0.89/lb ham was pressured steam cooked and injected with a spice/salt brine.

The ham was gross. I went back to the store this morning and asked for a refund, which they gave. Taste is subjective and I am a critic.

On the other hand inexpensive protein is inexpensive protein. I’d wait for the unmolested, blank slate pork loin to go on sale before buying another $0.89/lb ham.

      • The Breeding Of The Black Pig

“Since 1990, the entrepreneur Ernesto Madeo has taken on a challenge that today has proved successful, starting a long selection process to recover the genetics of the Black Pig of Calabria, an almost extinct native breed, tracing some specimens of males and females in the areas of the Greek Sila and the Aspromonte. The Calabrian territory represents an ideal habitat, guaranteeing the optimal conditions for farming.

The pigs are free to root outdoor in search of herbs, roots and seasonal vegetables which represent their main source of nutrition. The growth and reproduction rhythms are in complete harmony with the ones dictated by natural laws.”

      • Cincinnati is an interesting mention.

Cincinnati has long been considered the world center for Reform Judaism … a particular branch of the Religion that many more fundamentalist (Orthodox) believers DESPISE.

The Rabbinical Seminary “Hebrew Union College” in Cincinnati was, and still is (as I understand it) the center of the academic side of that branch of Judaism with additional branches of that Seminary /College in NYC, LA, and Jerusalem.

Hebrew Union College is the oldest Jewish Seminary in the Americas, founded in 1875

  6. re: Easter Woo ps
    feat: 3rd Brigade

    Folks,
Today unusually has not offered multiple updates on the Telegram channel of President Zelensky. Therefore one must be satisfied with his Thursday photo-op at the Presidential Palace featuring Kyiv visitor US Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick.

Rep. Fitzpatrick posted a couple of videos on Friday to his public Facebook account which have received mixed reviews. He allegedly visited the Ukrainian frontlines yesterday, and stated he was with the Third Brigade. He wore a flak jacket while signing an artillery shell to President Putin. Viewers were led to believe that the projectile was subsequently launched in the direction of Moscow.

The Third Brigade is a direct descendant of the neo-nazi Azov Battallion. “Wikipedia” offers an uncomplimentary description of the Third Brigade’s history including its soldiers distasteful homages to nazi symbols while training in France.

Happily the “Daily Mail” projects a brighter Holy Saturday future glimpse with a flashback to Easter Sunday 2024. Members of the Royal Family are pictured outside St. George’s Chapel, Windsor. There was no public Easter Egg Roll, but the predominant shade of ladies’ attire was green meant reflect hope and renewal.

    • Filters up; landmines ahead! Watch President Trump’s Administration get bogged down in quicksand (thanks to the Artful Doger?). Here is a link to a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’ report from “Fox News” about Orania (‘Orange’). It’s a racist, Whites-only town in South Africa where Blacks aren’t even permitted to be present as labourers.

      https://www.foxnews.com/world/trump-admin-makes-new-move-bring-south-african-refugees-us-president-blasts-nations-rulers-again

It looks as though South African White supremist groups such as AfriForum and the Cape Independence Advocacy Group are ramping up their lobby in Washington. These are the descendents of Orange Free State guerrillas who seemingly had no problem using Black support during the Second Boer War around 1900. The current story promoted to Washington says White South African farmers are under attack from Black mobs. The South African msm points out that Black farmers are being attacked too. However the White to Black farmer ratio is 10 to 1 so it can be made to seem like the former are oppressed.

President Trump may have a rising aura of President Hindenburg about his Administration? Where’s Adolf?

Should one tire of cogitating over right wing angsts, America’s far left socialist/anarchist groups have issues too. Here’s a link to an “X” post on the recent Northrop Grumann uncontained detonation:

  7. Before this august body of culture-bearers, malcontents, communicants and lurkers, geniuses, paranoids, ham radio guys, and tool experts, I wish to state clearly this Easter weekend, that I Believe.

Many of you are way smarter than me: many more accomplished: many have suffered far more: many have more courage: all while many also Believe, even as many others do not.

    Even so…

The road to here hasn’t been short or easy; and the road ahead looks to be about the same.

    Even so…

For what it may be worth, I Believe.

    • Additional:
      Ref: The Shroud of Turin.

I ran across this YouTube viddy-o earlier today. It’s an hour and a half, and it’s both exhaustive and exhausting. It is well done. It is relatively new, being out for only a few days, You may find it interesting or offensive. Fine. Whatever floats your boat. You may find it a bit dull due to the pace, but, in my opinion, it’s appropriate.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OElbxDPsqpw&t=1436s

I knew two of the second-string, back-bencher, support Doctor guys on the Shroud of Turin Research Project (STRP), and did a little technical work for them — soldering up connectors, making fixtures and LabCrap devices. Nothing very noteworthy.

My opinion? I think it’s Real; but in the most vital analysis, its validity is irrelevant. My belief is not dependent on it as more than a curio.

  8. (“(I have no idea what Riki Tiki Tavi is about”)

Hmm I think your referring to The Jungle Book. in the story a section follows a brave mongoose named Rikki-Tikki-Tavi who defends a British family in India by battling cobras in their garden. The name “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” is said to mimic the chattering sounds made by a mongoose, giving the character a lively and spirited identity. its a great book my little Tiger had me reading that story and later watching the movie every night for a bed time story..there was another one that was long boring and would put me to sleep. when all the girls wanted to stay up and play they would have me read it with ought any leaps..I would wake up them playing and jumping..

  9. Well., I didn’t buy the 32 foot Catfisher sailboat. She was well used, unfortunately she wasn’t well loved. Nearly everything on the boat needed R&R., including the entire sail rig and motor – and where the small diesel genset should have been was empty. A lot of money and probably a solid year’s worth of work to get her back to where she should be. Too bad.., I really liked her. I’ll keep looking for something unique for this lake.
    .
A lot of posts about, or mentioning religion lately. Some very informative. [ Carol ] For me: What little religion I had, I left in jungles of Vietnam and Laos. Still over there.., somewhere., wandering around under the triple canopy. – I have my beliefs., but they do not resemble your westernized, organized, monetized religion. I do what I can., with what I got.
    .
In December 2024, the S&P 500’s Shiller price-to-earnings (P/E) Ratio, which you’ll also find referred to as the cyclically adjusted P/E Ratio (CAPE Ratio), hit a closing peak of 38.89 during the current bull market. This reading is more than double the average Shiller P/E multiple of 17.23, when back-tested to January 1871.

In the 154-year back-tested history of the Shiller P/E, there have only been six periods where it’s spent at least two months above a reading of 30, including the present. Though the Shiller P/E isn’t particularly useful in helping investors decipher ‘when’ stocks will move lower, a reading of more than 30 has been a precursor for a sizable decline of 20% (or greater) in the Dow, S&P 500, and/or Nasdaq Composite – every time.

Even with the stock market crashing, the S&P 500’s Shiller P/E closed at a multiple of 30.74 on April 12th. This is still historically pricey and indicative of additional downside to come in the short-term.

Will they start pricing in the effects of a recession?

    • “…your westernized, organized, monetized religion”

One of Satan’s finer accomplishments along with the establishment of denominations.

      Ephesians 2: 4-9 (Paul’s letter to believers)
“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus; that in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.”

    • For S&P to fall 20% from peak it needs to come down another 370pts from where it is now, to about 4915.
That may put it close to the lower trend line on the aggregate chart, maybe even below it.
