Power in the Second Depression (Updated eBook)

When TSHTF a lot of people will be in the dark wondering “What happened?”  A few years ago, we presented a multipart series on keeping the lights on and the beer cold as economic collapse came stumbling across the world.

Today – in 160-pages of downloadable PDF eBook for subscribers, a discussion of D.C. power system design in the context of social collapse.

This is the first of two inexpensive eBooks I have plans to release publicly this year, based on past Peoplenomics reports.  The other one – which will be along in a few weeks is “The 100-Year Toaster”  which gets  into the nuts and economic bolts of our global “disposable things” society.

Plan is to upload both of these as Amazon ebooks for Kindle over the next month, or two. They will not be expensive – thinking $4.99 each which is reasonable, even on this last Prime Day, lol.

Before downloading the .PDF, however, we’ll first roll out this morning’s C.P.I. report and see how markets take to that.

Which then segues neatly into the ChartPack where some of the mystery of ongoing decline will come into clearer focus.

Shall we, then?

  1. Well congratulations to the most evil sinister thing I have ever seen tonite . Enough bad cannot come to markets . I will now hold gold and gold stocks forever and reopen market shorts and close them only on complete destruction of indexes . I sincerely congratulate you on market rigging .

  2. Hi G
IIRC years back devoted a day to emp-protection of equipment – tractors and like. Any recommendations on literature on that topic? Installed a decent solar system / backup here but that adds a new dimension to emp hardening. Will take some time to implement (if it can be done at all) so looking into all available resources.

  3. Inflation? $WMT bread is up to .99 cent Vs the previous .88 cents.

Everything else is up at least 50% since Biden came in hot.

    $1.00 hot dogs are $1.58.
$1.00 cans of soup are now over $2.00 on sale.
.30 cent cans of cat food are no longer stocked.

We all see it. Yesterday I was in $WMT and there are now large sections of floor space with no product. The pallets of stuff went somewhere. I also noticed less meat and more noodle/noodle products like noodle sauces. Bugs and noodles is the future.

Did you posters see Western priorities, “Ukraine to consider legalising same-sex marriage amid war”

    How nice is that?

    • My favorite bread: rather than a price increase, they reduced the size to 3″ high. Looks stupid with a slice of meat or cheese on top. Instant diet for me! LOL

  4. Bring it, indeed. Talk about the ultimate reason to suspend the mid terms. Next hay cutting ain’t happenin due to weather, not climate change, so we’re actually looking at break even on our diesel fuel this year and the herd will graze till next spring. Wheat was a lot better than expected so there is a little something to play the market with this winter.

James Kunstler had an interesting post last Friday regarding his recent travails with his grid tied solar system. Take away was with his system aging out somewhat his hindsight is maybe he should have gone simple.

  6. One item in your SHTF scenario, is the likely disabling and death of many more older people. Your eyes, your wifes hip, any other detailed type of health response necessary are not likely to be available. An injury in a small community can be catastrophic in keeping the remaining people alive. So if you injure yourself while doing all that manual labor to keep the homestead going, who is going to feed and care for you and your wife. Clearly this is why lower tech cultures live in tribes. If our culture falls this far down, you will need quite a few more people that believe your existence continues to add value vs what you can physically contribute. Living off the land, is hard, dangerous work. There are reasons our lifespans were so short during these periods in our histories.

    • Age, disability, and finally death have been baked in since it all began.
They will be harder to avoid when the modern conveniences disappear.
Prudent prepping makes some sense, but it won’t replace all we’ve recently had at our fingertips.
Whatever future there is belongs to the young, as always.

      • “They will be harder to avoid when the modern conveniences disappear.
Prudent prepping makes some sense, but it won’t replace all we’ve recently had at our fingertips.”

OH SO TRUE @izzy..The tree times I have gone through hell taught me that.. WE TAKE EVERYTHING FOR GRANTED.. AND WE EXPECT AND PREP FOR THE THINGS WE TAKE FOR GRANTED TO ALWAYS BE AVAILABLE…….I have a chain saw.. but then I have a two man pull saw as well.. I have an electric oil expeller.. but then I have an oil expeller that burns oil to process it..the same way they do in the small villages..
the time I fell.. (fell thirty feet.. got busted up pretty good.. use a cane now) I didn’t stay in the hospital.. I ASS u ME d that I would be ok at home.. only to have those that I figgured would be my backup move out.. had to crawl for food and water.. that taught me.. ( the importance of an MRE ) heat and eats.. at floor level.. even now I keep a few heat and eats at floor level.. even though I know now that my wife wouldn’t ever put me in that position..
those you think will be there as your backup.. will leave.. not because they hate you.. but more I think because they don’t know what to do or stay.. look at any nursing facility.. all of those elderly have loving families.. but.. they will sit there day and night waiting for those loving families to walk down the hall to see them…. it is one of the saddest sights you will ever see.. little billy will be coming to see me soon..
I think of NOAH.. think about that.. here is a crazy nut job on the high plains.. hundreds of miles from a water source… he is a goat herder LOL LOL.. building a huge boat.. can you see this.. for decades he built this boat.. the towns people all walked by.. going to the local bread shop for some sweet bread.. and a cup of that nasty stuff.. coffee they call it now.. LOL…as they passed you can also hear some smart azz yelling hows it going NOAH.. looks like rain..
Yet the story of noah and his boat is written in the history of all people on all continents.. a guy found a boat on top of a mountain in turkey years and years ago sticking out of a glacier…. took pictures of the inside of it I seen them. China had an expedition and found it.. there is a religious site at the bottom of the hill even..he brought back a hunk of it.. I tried long long ago to get a small piece to make a pen out of it.. failed.. he didn’t want to part with any of it.. was it NOAH’s Ark. same width and height.. laid out with pens for animals throughout..
the thing is.. it doesn’t matter.. IF .. what I think is being pushed happens.. there will be legends of a woman with a torch in the ocean.. and a mountain with faces on it.. thank god BLM and antifa didn’t convince this crazy insane bunch to blast that to pieces.. like they did most of the other historical monuments and statues.. they sure could have though..
the thing is.. as time marches on.. you need to know how to make or prepare the things you take for granted.. like this book.. you need to know how to make power.. for the tools for the comforts you are accustomed to..
I like a cold brew.. beer saved europe and the water there.. wine.. the same thing..it is the creature comforts that you will miss.. then to think wheat or rice and beans.. just how many rice and bean meals do you like.. do you like bread.. what if you cannot walk down to the store and pickup a packet of instant yeast.. the chinese rice balls hanging on a string comes to mind..
the last time..My wife now gave me a lot of crap over my affliction of having a few extra cans of beans.. then we went a year without an income.. those few extra can’s of beans came in mighty handy..
How much water can you gather from the morning dew.. a lot.. with our roof and capturing rain off of one fourth of the roof.. in a medium rain.. we can gather five hundred gallons in five minutes.. unfortunately we don’t have a cistern..
You cannot prepare for everything.. just for the lights out.. it is the knoweledge that becomes important.. today in this day of PDF and internet.. https://archive.org/details/technologyinanci0000hodg_r7j2/page/n3/mode/2up
I totally believe that we have gone through stages.. the technological ages then back to the beginning.. one day the library of congress will be a myth about a lost library .. just like all the others.. your local library will be gone.. the pages crumble.. the elderly with the ancient skill sets will be gone.. the old tool and die makers today are mostly gone.. people no longer walk where they are going.. we put our trust in a number on a sheet of paper.. today that number is important we have been programmed to assume that it is what is valuable.. manhattan was bought for a bag of beads and some blankets.. what would you trade for a can of spam.. or some magic mix..
coins.. can you make tools melt metals .. the sword and the stone.. is it a myth or was it real.. where did that story come from.. all things are based off of a real life scenario..
        https://bshistorian.files.wordpress.com/2019/10/molds_for_bronze_swords_and_other_items_from_the_nordheimer_hohl_neckargartach_stadt_heilbronn_c._800_bc_lettenhohl_sandstone_-_landesmuseum_wc3bcrttemberg_-_stuttgart_germany_-_dsc02772.jpg
we are the legends of the future.. it doesn’t make any difference what we think or feel.. the processes that have been set in motion are going to lead us to an unexpected change .. will nothing still be something .. who knows.. the story of who dies with the most toys comes to mind.. you can buy roman coins for pennies today.. even with our inflated currency today.. learn to do the things you enjoy.. like paper and pencil.. like toilet paper rather than some leaf.. it is quite easy to do.. can you make soap.. water from the air or ground.. can you drill a well..injection molding.. or can you make a sand cast..

    • Tribes = mutual assistance but also defense against hungry hordes. Being a new ex pat someplace in Latin America would leave me without a tribe. Very much on my mind as I look for a bolt hole in Costa Rica and Panama.

    • All the estimated losses of all the studies are around the 98% ratio..
The Georgia guidestone estimate runs pretty close..

    • JD,
Most excellent observation. Hopefully G2 is leading the way for the Ure family and old friends to coalesce as the local Ure tribe in backwoods Palestine TX.
My wife and I would love to take a 4 day road trip getaway to visit Elaine and George and tribe for a visit. Maybe rent the guest cabin and contribute to the food, booze, and power costs for a couple days,

I am most certain the conversations will be satisfying.

      • We must graciously decline. We figured lohg ago that this part of life would be a kind of crecendo period.
Which is what happens when (aging related) health issues, a declining economic picture, and the crack up of supply chains and food sources occurs. Plus anything with a roof over it has been pressued into prepping goods storage – and even this is miles from adequate!) Toss in typical 12-16 hours a day of research, writing, and day trading – well just wouldn’t be right for guests. Sorry…
But, we have thought about a cocktail hour with the Ure’s on Zoom if our bandwidth would support it (not sure on this point). Once the weather breaks and we’re through this crunch period. Thinking a subscreibers only deal on Zoom would be fun – and maybe on Friday after the market close….
Just a longer-term goal for now – still have three books to finish and getr on Kindle plus the zillion other tasks

    • Joe Dish, You should live on an Island, they are all up and down the NE Coast. They are tribal and connected to major cities via thoroughfares. It’s the perfect solution for non Thunderdome scenarios. Isolate when you want to. Go out and play Urban when Survival stocking supplies for the Island Life. You wont ever miss a Sunset.

      • That’s why I like living in the wastelands.. 250 miles from any real target..

  8. Great post.. great book..
what would you trade I have had the fortune and misfortune of having to experience just that three times that I know of..each one teaching me or showing me something new along the way.. I jot them up to learning experiences and character building experiences.. would I be the same person if I had never experienced any of those dramatic times.. probably not…. You would be surprised at just how and what you would be willing to do.. I personally have had some pretty horrible jobs.. you will walk..
Look at SanFran.. a city of beauty and high career positions.. housing .. two grand for a bunk bed space per month.. people using the sidewalks and store isles as toilets.. how does that happen.. the stages go.. from everything is hunky dory in the old town to OH SHIST what is this.. how do I survive it.. I had the triple whammy hit me and then the realization.. there isn’t anyone there for you.. no one is coming to your rescue.. that happened my niece in Tenn a few years ago.. they had a tornado.. destroyed their house.. I said gather what you can and put it in storage or find a safe place for it.. she didn’t FEMA was there and they said they would help.. then there was a flash flood.. shortly afterwards.. took what could have been salvaged and destroyed it.. they had nothing .. in the end.. FEMA only helped those at the very top.. the regular population.. well she got what amounted to twenty dollars and a good luck.. she later told me she had wished she had listened to me..
It has no mercy.. can you wipe with nettles.. well it is way easier to make your own paper LOL.. and yes we seen toilet paper go for the price of silver and gold.. the same with hand sanitizer.. power.. can you make your own fuel.. yes you can and out of just about anything.. I get a lot of crap out of oil harvesting from grain.. I have both the modern oil press and the old hand cranked one.. grinders.. let me tell you if you ever beat grain with a stone at the bottom of a cast iron pan.. you to would have grain grinders of all shapes and sizes.. my favorite is the wonder mill but I have the rest to..
do you have a bath tub…https://www.amazon.com/Foldable-Portable-Children-Headrest-Organizer/dp/B09TX8RBVM/ref=sr_1_8?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIj9eOooX2-AIVGz2tBh1I-w49EAAYASAAEgK18fD_BwE&hvadid=409959232021&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9020398&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=13380443445167606241&hvtargid=kwd-296662350603&hydadcr=24658_11410762&keywords=bath+tub+portable&qid=1657721362&sr=8-8

what people don’t realize is that is energy.. you can convert it to gas..
    https://www.homebiogas.com/product/homebiogas-2/
you can make one for way under a hundred dollars using a IBC tote..
I paid ten dollars for two of those totes..
    https://youtu.be/i7onXeTKiRM
or how to make heat or hot water.. can you make a pencil.. and paper.. without something simple as pencil or paper.. communication comes to an end.. with the elimination of the digital world.. books become the new gold.. water the new oil..

    • Dude, Homedepot sell you that terlet for $5 bucks..comes in orange..$10 bucks leftover for add-ons..poopurri, gladeplugins, nose plugs, nitrile gloves.
also-cheap plastic tube stuck in anal orifice should suffice in capturing excess Gasz – rather than using Ure gaseous emissions to clear the hole and dry the bowl..

“Beanz to Light” a newer kinda brown..

  9. “we have to back
out government workers since they are something of a “special case” from an
accounting standpoint. They both pay taxes and consume them”

Hmm think of the pyramid.. how many wage earners in america are affected by being a federal employee or an employee that is making their income by federal contracts..
    the hidden bureaucratic pyramid..
    https://www.volckeralliance.org/resources/true-size-government-1

Now.. if you take that into account.. and where the money they spend goes.. the what forty two percent of all workers in the USA in the federal loop.. the end results are what.. around ninety percent..
during covid.. no one expected the results of stay at home.. money to stay solevant has to work.. the working dollar.. the velocity of cash.. if it stops.. then it falls apart..

  10. My buddy I’ve known for 30 years who works at BSNF. Been there 28 years. “The goverment wont let us strike. We are going to strike. And crooks are going to save us from the crooks.”

    Who is John Gault?

    • I told him. He has more faith in the Biden administration than I do. He laughed and said. Thar dude sure on alot of drugs. He looks shit housed on camera evey time I see him. Must be one hell of a party they are having in there. H

  11. Good column today, George. One paragraph in particular caught my attention: ”

I figured – and still argue the wisdom – that recovery from a collapsing society might go easier in a culture that was not so far separated from the ground reality of life as ours in North America has become.”

That’s my rationale for planning a property-hunting trip to Costa Rica and Panama in September. Although lots of food is imported in both countries, there are a number of eco-villages in Costa Rica that are pretty-much self sustaining. There are also Mennonite colonies there–they already know how to do “grid-down.” I remember a joke I heard when I lived in an Amish/Mennonite area of Pennsylvania.
Q: “What did the Amish do during the Depression?”
    A: “They didn’t notice it.”

Both countries should experience less fallout than South Florida, if it comes to that. Rural areas of both countries have less-than-robust electric grids, which I see as a plus. Outages are outages, not catastrophes. The big downside is, of course, for months to years after arrival being a different-looking, hardly-fluent, relatively affluent outsider not integrated into the local community and perhaps looking like prime meat.

Anyhow, it will be worth a trip to assess the odds.

    • MarcR, it’s awfully late in the game! I’d be paying attention to your current situation and make it viable between now and when you consider this trip. With the current situation, you might easily get stuck where you are and with what resources you have on hand.

On those occasions when I visit far afield, I always consider how to get back home in case of any potential situation I can imagine. Some simply don’t work, but I can usually envision finding my way home one way or another. The Biden oligarchy is capable of anything bad, and they just don’t want to fully reveal their hand.

      • Hurricane kit, money in a local bank and otherwise “accessible”, and some Krugerrands. Freezer is almost empty, pantry and gas tanks are full. My vision of TEOTWAWKI is scheduled for 2023-2024, not this fall — but I’ve never been particular good at timing.

    • Downloaded immediately, along with Gottapulse! All good info, though I’ve only had time to read the TOC and “Urgent Plea” at the end. For anyone with home power, just realize that allowing your own power to get through your mains box back to the grid will risk the lives of linemen! It’s not just the 110/220 volts that you’re sending into the line, but the street transformers will backfeed and activate the high voltage lines at thousands of volts too! This is very serious.

  12. Trump & Musk , to me it is like WWF, theatrics, after the match, they go have dinner together.
The 2020 election/selection, that cheated US out of our reelecting Trump, has exposed the fake voter rolls and fake ballots.
The Musk Twatter bid is exposing the fake bots, that remind me of a Hollywood movie set, fake .

When the light of truth is shined upon them,,,,
I can hear the banshees screaming their satanic howl,
“REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE,, protect our fraudulent voting systems,
REEEEEEEE, voter ID is bad, but but but, it is racist”
When they cry “voter suppression” they are referring to their cheating, they need to cheat, to win/steal. Like a man pretending to be a woman to win a women’s sporting event.
I am not trans-phobic. I do not fear them, I just judge them to be sick, mentally & spiritually. Put them into isolation till they conquer their dis-ease. Keep them away from our children!!!

  13. I will take a look later at Ure Power book. Right now I’m thinking. I’m literally working for a company nicknamed the red army and they just bought 5 new yellow and blue trucks everyone is calling the unkranian belly dampers. You can’t make this shit up.

I’ve switched jobsites 9 times today. What that tells me at a core level is, “Everytime is changing and quickly.” “Very quickly”.

Sometimes I know. And sometimes I don’t know. This is a time I don’t know. That always says to me. Listen. So I’m doing that.

Try to smile and enjoy life while it lasts. Even though know is a burden at times. Eveyone wants to see the future. Until you see the future.

I won’t be living in the city come fall. It’s set up to fail. I don’t where I’m going. But I know I’m not staying. Faith ya know?

Not sure when I will be back. Time to hit airplane mode on this phone for a few weeks and just be in the moment.

  14. George,

Thanks for the practical tips on off ramp directions to an analog world.

Meanwhile Reuters is reporting Bill Gates is chipping in another $20 billion to his own charitable foundation. “The great crises of our time require all of us to do more” said the philanthropist. The Oracle of Omaha chipped in $3 billion as well.

Thanks, Bill. Thanks, Warren. Tax receipts are in the mail.

  15. Comrades,

The theme of the last Asian Leadership Conference held in 2019 in Seoul was “The World at a Crossroads”. There were 200 speakers including former German chancellor Schröeder as well as Windsor Castle lodger Prince Andrew.

Today ALC2022 began. The theme is “Embracing the New Normal: a Proposal for the Future”. Mr. Zelensky informed delegates that Russia is the cause of the Sri Lankan “social explosion” and it will spread unless more ammunition is sent to Ukraine. Other keynote speakers include former First Lady Mrs. Obama and former VP Mr. Pence.

Be sure to be counted; mail your vote in !!

Yesterday according to the official schedule Mr. Biden hosted the Congressional Picnic on the south lawn before flying to Jerusalem for duties including laying a wreath at Yad Vashem, the Holocaust memorial site.

    • Remember playing the Monopoly game fingers crossed not to get stuck landing on an opponent’s hotel bedecked Park Place. Has Mr. Putin successfully passed “Go” and bought up all the good rooms on Baltic Avenue?

The public msm offers an interesting tidbit about the “repaired” turbine by Germany’s Siemens in Canada for the currently shutdown Nordstream1. The Canadian waiver exemption is for 6 turbines over 2 years.

Currently the sole oil pipeline to Kalingrad goes through Lithuania. Maybe Mr. Putin is keen to find a new build and turn up the power? Let’s await the next round of betting from the Big Table in Moscow?

  16. The rumors I’m hearing is Biden will be retiring soon after the midterms. The debate revolves around giving the job to Kam or appointing a new VP. Some folks like Cory Booker.

Thinking about power, you made a better point the other day – how to pay property taxes if everything goes over the falls.

Back during the Great Depression times some folks who had paid off houses lost them to property taxes. Some folks tried to sell their paid off houses for as little as taxes/back taxes just so the city wouldn’t get it. No bids.

“If”s are stupid but… my take is if the U.S. gov really has all the gold it says it has, 8,000+ metric tons or so gold won’t be called. If the U.S. lent or spent it out in schemes, gold will be called.

  17. Phew….
I am so glad that I had a friend tell me about chicken…
I went ahead and ordered it..
The daughter went to pick up some for herself today.. it doubled in price since I put in the order last night. Butter tripled in price since two weeks ago..

  18. Funny, just my 2 cents worth, that’s worth about .0000002% of a cent now. I just turned 66. I remember when I when to school–I WAS HUNGRY. It takes about 3 days of hunger. After 3 days, strangely, you’re not hungry. I think that may be the “survival mode” that people talk about — keto diet, eat your own fat, lower your metabolism, etc.etc. atkins. It’s strange, YOU ARE NOT HUNGRY!

I became basically vegetarian and am really starting to wonder if the “animal protein” thing is just from the meat industry. MILK? why would you suckle from a female human? Just please think about it. Gorillas and Chimpanzees share 98% of our DNA. They’re basically vegetarian (except the adolescent males). I’ve been vegetarian (pretty much) since lockdown with covid and haven’t lost much muscle mass. everything is a business model and chicken farms in arkansas and beef feedlots in texas have a vested interest. Just “food” for thought. You may not need as much protein as you think. Just a thought after a few toddy’s.

    • “Funny, just my 2 cents worth, that’s worth about .0000002% of a cent now. I just turned 66. I remember when I when to school–I WAS HUNGRY. It takes about 3 days of hunger. After 3 days, strangely, you’re not hungry.”

It is the same with being tired.. @any mouse…HELL year.. I worked at the hospital to work off a debt for a surgery.. the exchange was a year of my labor in exchange for the debt.. so for a year I had to work three full time and one part time jobs.. plus transportation between the different jobsites..
anyway.. I screwed up in self scheduling for two weeks.. I worked non stop .. no sleep.. after the third day I was so tired.. I thought I was going to die.. then it all cleared up.. crystal clear.. adrenalin or what ever took over.. just like going hungry the body consumes itself.. and the muscle tissue.. the body takes over with its own chemicals..
I was so terrified I was going to die after the two week period that I had everyone watch me sleep just in case..

Years later.. a really good friend of mine.. tried doing the same thing.. but for only a week.. on the saturday before easter.. we went out to eat and he was telling me what he was doing.. I was still using a walker.. and not doing very well with a surgery I had.. and I said to him.. good lord man.. don’t do it.. look what it has done to me and my body and I thought I was going to die at the time and I told him I wanted him to be a pall bearer .. .. he didn’t listen to me and did it anyway..
on tuesday morning after he got done.. he called me and we were talking and he said dam I am tired.. going to finally get some sleep..
He had a heart attack in his sleep.. I got better..and was one of the walk beside pall bearers at his funeral..

    • ” It takes about 3 days of hunger. After 3 days, strangely, you’re not hungry.”

Correct, as long as the hunger doesn’t run for too long. Before I was a butcher I was a “meat cutter.” Having neither a kitchen nor access to one, I spent about $4/day on food. Having thousands to pay back to my mother, who supported me during the Carter recession when I couldn’t cut it as a starving artist, my budget was entirely centered around buying enough refined petrochemicals to make it to work & back between biweekly paychecks. I generally ran out of money about 4 days before I ran out of appetite.

“I became basically vegetarian and am really starting to wonder if the “animal protein” thing is just from the meat industry.”

No. Animal protein is high-quality (meaning high density.) Plant protein is not. Under normal circumstances, plant protein is perfectly adequate, however, under periods of high stress, it fails miserably.

“MILK? why would you suckle from a female human?”

I wouldn’t, beyond about one year of age. However, I would gladly and happily consume milk from cows or goats. It is such a high-value food it would be foolish not to, and I like it.

A “perfect” food is one which contains all the amino acids a human being requires, but can’t synthesize internally.

      There ARE no “perfect” foods.

However, there are three “near-perfect” foods, which contain all but one essential amino acid. Those three are: Milk, eggs, and honey. By refusing to consume 2-3 of these foods especially, and any other food which is meat-based, one places oneself at a huge nutritional disadvantage.

Fortunately, the outlook for our society for the foreseeable future is “relaxed” and “laid back.”

      Oh, wait…

  19. The employer announced today the intent to be somewhere else by ’26. Their initial thought is moving 30 – 40 miles cross-wind, but I think Bob’s 100 mile idea sounds better. I told ’em to relocate next to an RV park some time back, which they thought was nuts. I’m afraid they will start to understand in another month or two, on the other hand, that is a business projection I would like to be dead wrong on.

Andy’s meditation on where is a place of safety, and how safe is safe, has been circling in my head for months. The answer that keeps coming to me is that I am in my place of safety, but I am less than comfortable with that answer.
I am still keeping my eye out for a credible plan b, but any change that requires me to liquidate real estate is looking like a no-go. Real estate liquidity is circling the pipes analogous to the ’30’s, even in an ultra-hot suburban market like mine. Throwing money at low-probability contingencies is not usually productive, anyway.

    • “Their initial thought is moving 30 – 40 miles cross-wind, but I think Bob’s 100 mile idea sounds better.”

Depends. 30 miles might be a perfectly good defense against an airburst. Against a ground burst? 200-300 miles might not be sufficiently distant if you’re downwind…

  20. George. Thank you for the copy of your book. You are more than generous with your creative work. Appreciate it.

  21. “Which we figure to be the real agenda – keeping the Saudis out of the fray and maybe air traffic issues – when that pops.”

I hope not. Mr. Biden has been extraordinarily bad WRT foreign affairs for oh, the past 50 years or so. His track record is not likely to change on the Saudi junket (which I take to mean he’s gonna screw something up for somebody else since “it’s not our circus.”) I’m content with believing he’s just gonna fellate (izzat a word? If not, it should be) the entire House of Saud to get us a million barrels a day of refined petrol, from Labor Day through Veterans Day…

  22. I really hope nothing bad happens to you folks . I hope folks don’t get fed up with this fourth reich stuff . Yah know you have gone to far

    • Same to you. I actually considered moving to the Outback, until your fearless leader went Hitler on the entire population of Oz…

  23. do you guys have photos of hitler and nazi flags in schools and churches ? any patriotic tunes ?
