    • Brother Stair sometimes goes on about Planet X in radio reruns. He’s been dead. FYI Planet X is from the old Godzilla flicks. If Planet X is real perhaps[s monsters are real – those other than the bushy eyebrow-ed pedophiles chasing prepubescent girls up and down plane aisles. We’ll just never know.

  7. Over the past several days, photo-memes have appeared on both farcebook and twit’r, depicting a diaspora of buffler, elk, and bear from Yellowstone. I personally believe these are AI creations because I haven’t seen anything pop up in the forestry or DNR channels. (Then again, I also haven’t investigated, so…)

    However, I find it interesting that these memes should show up at this point in time — makes me wonder if a left-field aberration of the gravitational stasis of our solar system (or parts thereof) could precipitate an angry response from an overdue caldera…?

      • This past Friday I was talking to a fellow and he started going on about Epstein not being a real person. That’s a Super Parrot.

        Like Ray pointed out with the pics, certain folks have some kind of psychological condition and they fall in line parroting gibberish. Who wants to be by them? The parrots self organize into parrot families. Like the Manson family. Maybe Trump has it right with the masked police.

    I fondly recall a Caribbean charter arranged for full cosmic show as Comet Kohoutek went through the neighborhood. Truly stellar. Every night rolling through the BVI we selected an anchorage to afford the view. Then there were the last two times I watched Halley’s Comet. Holding out for a third showing (not really).

    “… trigger volcanism …” irt: comet “disturbance in the force” … it’s the Ring of Fire that seems most likely to remind mankind (and the wimmen, don’t forget the wimmin!) how not in charge we are. Possibly the occasional venting (name your volcano) has reduced pressure? Or not. Got some magma plumes Hank?

    I came in from the lake to check the ChiMac Racing division (planned start today, big storms probably impacting decisions by the RC). The Cruising division left yesterday. Put in a reef, go offshore IMO. But, we grew up storm sailing so …

    • Pele Volcano has been spewing 1,000 ft fountains with an almost weekly regularity for the last several months. Eruptions last as little as 6 hours and then go quiet for another week or so. Volcanologists describe the action as akin to a percolating coffee pot. Never been seen like this before.

    • Yup.. me to hank..but..then you have a chunk of rock or ice with a nucleus the size of mount everest..there’s very little anyone can do. if an asteroid the size of a school bus is considered a planet altering event..phew..the ramifications are amazing.
      The nucleus diameter is likely between 4 to 5 kilometers, though some estimates suggest it could be as large as 24 kilometers.
      Assuming a typical cometary density of 0.5 to 1.0 g/cm³, the mass could range from roughly 10¹³ to 10¹? kilograms.

    Observations of 3I/ATLAS with the Hubble Space Telescope are planned for 21 July 2025.[28] Images from these observations will be immediately made public. The comet is not expected to get brighter than about apparent magnitude 11.5[33] and that would place the comet outside the reach of the average observer with 50 mm binoculars.
    122 observations., compiled and then animated shows that the closest 31/Atlas comes to Earth is roughly the same distance as we are from the sun., and Earth does not transit the comets’ tail – thus we will not run smack into any debris field.
    As of yesterday, the math models on 31/Atlas shows it has a diameter of “probably” less than a third of a mile., with a proposed maximum of 3.1 miles.

    I have been following 31/Atlas since it was first reported. [ sort of a minor math hobby of mine ]
    This is not a Ele event.
    Right now? It’s a big nothing burger. We won’t even be able to see it without the aide of a decent backyard ‘scope.

On top of that, it (and the other late night shows) have all transitioned over the past 10 years, from comedic variety shows to political hack shows. Jack Paar, Steve Allen, and Johnny Carson hosted an uproariously funny late night TV show, which featured zero politics and only rarely had a political figure on as a guest. Johnny Carson paid a flat $200 appearance fee to his guests. He was the most-powerful starmaker in the entertainment universe. Agents would fight to get their clients on The Tonight Show, because Carson could make their career or destroy it in a single appearance.

    I have no idea what the late night appearance fees are now, although I’m certain there are prima donna “guests” who won’t walk on stage for less than 10 grand (and maybe a lot more. Taylor Swift was pulling nearly $13mil per night as her tour wound down. I doubt she’d appear on Colbert of Kimmel for 5-figures…)

    Speaking of, rumor has it Kimmel will be the next to go. ‘Shame, because he’s a genuine comedic talent and either through his choice or that of ABC, has gone the “political hack” route, as well. IOW his show is also bleeding boatloads of cash. He didn’t help himself or his longevity by that profane outburst over the canning of Colbert.

    Personally, I don’t care. They all forgot their roots and lost their way. Myers and Fallon won’t last much longer, either. As long as Trump keeps winning defamation suits and their writers pen stupid shit that they’re also stupid enough to say on-air, they are a liability to their networks, and a lead albatross, waiting to drop…

    • I personally quit watching all mainstream networks.. during trumps last administration you hear I hate Trump over ninety times in a half hour and every show was politically motivated.. with more glorification of criminal acts on every show..from game shows that the winner is the one to have the best sociopathic ability.. bushings glorified robberies rapes and murders..for me it wasnt something I support or in most cases won’t even allow them to be played..a child of any age can come watch what we watch..

  13. Back in “the day,” nightly talk show hosts were the influencers. Who or what they satirized in their monologues, who they had on as guests – late night hosts like Carson, Leno and Arsenio all drove the inter-office coffee room discussions in industry and government the following day and quite often made or broke careers in entertainment, sports and politics.

    Today’s information saturation of the web, let alone broadcast cable and streaming, with interviews, celebrity statements and interview snippets readily provided near-real time, have mortally wounded the iconic talk show format. Colbert and Kimmel are quite literally media dinosaurs. They talk about what has already been talked about. Their version of the extinction level event comet is now upon them.

    CBS did Colbert a favor by cancelling him before the viewing public could flip the switch and turn off his egocentric, painful to watch late night, drib and drab excursions. Stick a fork in him folks. He’s done!

        Gutfeld panned Colbert, and this clip in particular. Joe Mackey piped up and stated if one of the “syringes” had fallen over dead, the routine would’ve instantly become incredibly funny.

        If you stop and think about it for a sec, Mackey is exactly right. It’s like all those mainstream “comics” doing “late night” shows forgot how to be funny, and allowed their political beliefs and ideology to supercede all else. I’m pretty sure Johnny Carson was not politically celibate, but like Walter Cronkite and Paul Harvey (and thousands of others), was smart enough to realize, as Michael Jordan famously said: “Republicans buy sneakers, too…”

        An entertainer, especially in a competitive market, can NOT afford to alienate half their potential market. Gutfeld disses nearly as many Rightests as he does Leftists, and zings many more FOX personalities than he does public figures from any other content provider. He’s Number One in late night TV because roughly every other time ANY of the others lost a viewer, he gained one.
