You seem to know much ’bout supplements. Have developed oral thrush started Sat. and have already lost 20lbs as not able to swallow much. Taking my quercetin with zinc & copper, D3, and rinsing with salted water, pharmacist provided today with 14 day nystatin rinse and swallow.
We were planning to have roast duck in orange sauce for Labor day (LOOB, do you have a recipe?), but may have to hold off on that until feel better.
Whoa — supplements take second place on this one. Loves supplements but this is the kind of thing yrou escalate hard tomorrow early AM if not significantly better. Like OK swallowing better. We don’t do internet medical (or financial) advice. We write about – no one here prescribes.
Oral thrush itself is usually very treatable, and the nystatin rinse/swallow is a standard approach. But losing 20 pounds since Saturday because you can barely swallow is the part that gets my attention. Way outside norms – see doc.
I’d call your doctor/urgent care today and make sure they understand both numbers: 20 pounds and difficulty swallowing. Thrush can sometimes get farther down into the esophagus, in which case the treatment may need to be different from a mouth rinse alone. I’m not diagnosing it — just saying that’s well beyond something I’d try to supplement my way through.
And if you’re having trouble getting enough fluids down, getting weak/dizzy, or swallowing becomes substantially worse, I’d move that up the medical-attention ladder promptly.
As for the Labor Day duck: I’d give Donald a temporary stay of execution. Orange sauce will taste a lot better when swallowing isn’t an Olympic event.

Healing up nicely using salt rinse and the nystatin. Think at least half the weight loss was water, and now able to hydrate as normal, still not eating a lot but weight loss stopped and feeling better. Lot of watermelon from my garden this year, even some of those yellow like pineapple flesh ones.
When saw Dr. in Spring he said I could benefit from losing 40lbs so will monitor. Yes the metoprolol can also cause balance issues as it slows the heart rate so I paid attention and practiced safety.
The supplement question was for when finished the nystatin. Have used Pau d’Arco Taheebo before and picked up a jar this morning. 500mg tablets.

The path of any civilization..past,present and future says that you can’t change the path of a country once the basic needs of its people get turned into a business model. I thought i would share this tidbit of information….Retort canning corn almost always gives you that slight tan or dull yellow color…. The corn is still good to eat — it’s just chemistry…. At retort temperatures the natural sugars in corn start to brown, and the pigments break down… That’s why pressure canned corn recipes call for citric acid or lemon juice to be added…the acid helps stabilize the color and slows the sugar reaction to high heat…. Retort is hotter than pressure canning, so the color shift is quite a bit stronger. The corn is perfectly normal, perfectly safe — just the sugars changing under high heat….
How to Reduce Retort Discoloration in Corn
Citric acid —1/8 to 1/4 tsp per pouch Lowers pH, stabilizes pigments, slows sugar browning. This is the #1 fix.
Distilled water …Tap water minerals (iron, calcium) react with corn pigments and dull the color.
Younger sweet corn
Older corn has more starch and less sugar ? browns faster.
Tight headspace Less oxygen = less oxidation = better color.
Fast chill after retort Stops carryover cooking, which continues browning even after the cycle ends.
Avoid added salt before retort Salt can accelerate pigment breakdown. Add after opening if possible.
