Housing Rolls Along

Perhaps not to trigger the Fed, we found the wording of this morning’s S&P Case-Shiller Housing report interesting:

NEW YORK, JANUARY 30, 2024:  S&P Dow Jones Indices (S&P DJI) today released the latest results for the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller Indices, the leading measure of U.S. home prices. Data released today for November 2023 show that 12 out of the 20 major metro markets reported month-over-month price decreases.

YEAR-OVER-YEAR

The S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller U.S. National Home Price NSA Index, covering all nine U.S. census divisions, reported a 5.1% annual gain in November, up from a 4.7% rise in the previous month. The 10-City Composite showed an increase of 6.2%, up from a 5.7% increase in the previous month. The 20-City Composite posted a year-over-year increase of 5.4%, up from a 4.9% increase in the previous month. Once again, Detroit reported the highest year-over-year gain among the 20 cities with an 8.2% increase in November, followed again by San Diego with an 8% increase. For the third month in a row, Portland fell 0.7% and remained the only city reporting lower prices in November versus a year ago.

Say, you don’t think Porland is suffering a (well-deserved) financial blowback from their little socialist insurrection up there a while back, do you?

MONH-OVER-MONTH

For the first time since January 2023, the U.S. National Index and 20-City Composite posted 0.2% month-over-month decreases in November, while the 10-City Composite posted a 0.1% decrease.

After seasonal adjustment, the U.S. National Index and the 10-City Composite posted month-over-month increases of 0.2%, while the 20-City Composite posted a month-over-month increase of 0.1%.

What matters in the overall price levels:

After the report, the stock futures were reacting like it was a “sell the news” event – Dow was down almost 90 and the S&P 500 futures down almost a dosen.

Which we take to mean that with housing still strong, the odds of the Fed lowering at their rate decision tomorrow probably approaches zero.

Write when yada yada,

  1. Rates ain’t wher e it’s at Kemosabe..

Watch the repo bank refunding hocus pocus for the beginning of QE …as QT has come to a stop.
Out of market trading wise sine Jan options expiration. Only investing with very select Stocks…kinda reloading/restocking PM and Oil positions …average div yield in Gold holdings over 5.5%, with average yield in Oils is OVER 11% !
Read that again homegamerz..over 11% div yield, which means ? Cmon you lazy bastards, do the Maths Ure own dam selves..hint less than 8 years..

Oh wait my bad ! You morons can’t do Maths, for if you could you wouldn’t be reading this news daily, but instead rushing out to buy BITCOIN !

Sniff sniff, it’s that smell, that smelly smell that smells smelly = USD..otherwise known as “bribems “..dirty, nasty and WORTHLESS.

    Color me “Peachy in waiting”

….waiting for a perfect Trade, may take all year.. ; )

  2. In the beginning of the radio program, the LR called Tanto Kemosabe. Later, in the TV version, it was the other way around.

  3. “Detroit reported”

I still say it’s the autoworker raises and COVID funds filtering through the Detroit market. You saw the Panda Express help wanted sign.

Nostalgia is hard to overcome. Recall olden days when Detroit was the “Arsenal of democracy”.

Back in October Biden cited the ‘Arsenal of democracy’ and there was no mention of Detroit or Michigan.

“When we use the money allocated by Congress, we use it to replenish our own stores, our own stockpile with new equipment, equipment that defends America and is made in America. Patriot missiles for air defense batteries, made in Arizona, artillery shells manufactured in 12 states across the country, in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas and so much more.”

All that to say is there’s no reason for Detroit to boom other than inflation. Stagflation?

    • In combination stagflation. I haven’t figured out the multiplier but Chase is offering more low-cost money to the Detroit market. There’s probably other banks ‘supporting’ Detroit.

“JP Morgan Chase loans another $10M to Invest Detroit to back business development”

JPMorgan Chase lends $10M to Invest Detroit to support development

“The $10 million investment is really focused on home creation, undergirding our investment in small businesses and what we think about when we think about strengthening neighborhoods through an investment,” said Alicia Wilson, head of regional philanthropy for North America for JPMorgan Chase. “And it builds upon what we’ve been able to do with Invest Detroit over the past 10 years.”

“The officials reflected Tuesday on the more than $200 million the bank has made in philanthropic contributions in the Detroit area since 2014. “

      • Bullshit. All the loans are because Black voters are as smart as White voters. If the payoffs to Detroit don’t ramp up the local econ, the migration of smart people (all races) to anything but these shit-fer-brain parties who screw us all over – will continue.
Money will flow or Joe will go, is what I’m saying.
OK and praying… gimme an Amen and another prom note…A little HELOC line on the side?
Could it be that Black voters have seen the lbgtq/wokees jump ahead of them in the opportunity line and they don’t like it, either?
Has it been so long since school you forget how you felt when someone cut in the lunch line in front of you? Hard to have “solidarity” sold under false pretenses, methinks

  4. it has been decided.

the entire mine stopped to watch it until the song finished. and then everyone yelled for joy.

The United States is restored to its Position of Power.

my replacement of the position i held, has been selected.

    its been a wild ride.

again, it is not by my will. nor a descision that i made. it was decided way above my paygrade and handed down to me.

if you look around. you will see, the world has already begain to look different. it is different. the dark cloud of doom is no more.

  6. Just another false flag:

    From http://www.whatreallyhappened.com

PAST THE POINT OF NO RETURN: IMMINENT; BIDEN HAS DECIDED HIS RESPONSE.

Claire’s Observations: folks, this is utter insanity, writ large. Biden and his handlers just don’t know what to do, so bombing targets in Iran; Syria, and Iraq, just HAS to be the thing to do, by cracky!!

But at this point, I would very much like to remind you a statement made by a Pentagon Spox just this morning, as featured in an article by antiwar.com: I am asking you to please, keep a copy of this article somewhere you can find it, because I will bet you right now that the following will “disappear” very quickly from any media.

Pentagon Admits It Has No Evidence Iran Was Behind Drone Attack That Killed 3 US Troops in Jordan

The Pentagon on Monday said Iran “bears responsibility” for the drone attack in northeastern Jordan that killed three US troops but admitted it has no evidence that Iran was directly involved.

Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said the responsibility fell on Iran due to its support for Iraqi Shia militias the US believes carried out the attack.

“In terms of attribution for the attack, we know this is an [Iran]-backed militia. It has the footprints of Kataib Hezbollah, but [we’re] not making a final assessment,” Singh said at a press conference. “Iran continues to arm and equip these groups to launch these attacks, and we will certainly hold them responsible.”

When asked if the US knew Iran and Iranian leaders were “actually behind this attack, as in planned, coordinated, or directed it,” Singh admitted the US had nothing to show that.”

So the bottom line here, is that the US is blaming Iran for this attack against US Service People, but cannot validate or find evidence to prove this is true, but is attacking it anyway. Singh made the observation that the attack had “… all the footprints of Kataib Hezbollah…” Ms, Singh, this attack could have come from a LOT of people who, perhaps, have numerous reasons not to particularly like Israel or the US, and if there is no evidence Iran did this, the logical response, would be for the US military to collectively “hold their fire” against Iran, and not attack it, but actually figure out who did this, to determine against whom a retaliation should be made; of course, that….. would be logical.

Biden’s handlers keep him regurgitating the phrase that he “doesn’t want a larger Middle Eastern war,. when they know that such an act will most likely force Iran into this war, front and center, which is precisely what Israel and the US want to see happen. Of course, there is a question which no one in DC wants to ask out loud, but should be asked and answered by every member of Biden’s Inner Circle, and every responsible member of the US military; when Iran DOES join the fray here militarily, what please will Russia and China do?!? Hold hands and sing, “Kumbyah”?!? I think not!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • So, for some reason, you believe an Administration which has lied continuously about actual, important shit, to the American people and the world, since Mr. Biden’s first day in office, is suddenly trustworthy?

On top of that, you believe an Administration that’s been sucking the Ayatollahs’ collective semen-ejectors since January of 2009 is going to do anything to the Islamic Republic of Iran without first getting permission from Ali Khamenei?

      Ain’t happenin’

Part of “newspeak” is to say the opposite of what is going on, what is, or what an Administration either IS doing or is GOING to do. It’s a very specialized form of gaslighting or propagandizing. Iran is not a U.S. ally by any stretch of anyone’s imagination, however, Iran IS an Obama ally, and by extension, a Biden ally.

President Houseplant is not going to do anything which is actually damaging or detrimental WRT Iran, and Khamenei knows it. He will have to retaliate if the Houthis sink an American ship, but his target will be a carefully-selected “aspirin factory,” (maybe a long-abandoned refinery or something along those lines) and the Western public will receive a glowing missive regarding the success of the operation, and the fact we cowed Iran into submission “without starting a war…”
