No rest for the Worked on a holiday weekend. Our web side problems have been fixed, the market may be too: Fixed and set for a major decline.
A quick roll through the headlines is in order, but not too much coffee: Too much caffeine buzz on a “personal day” seems like overkill.
The long paper from Wednesday may still be of interest hat-tip to reader Hank for catching the redundant paste part – what’s what happens sometimes when you write in segments on multiple devices. Why, we’re so old, there were times when copy/paste hadn’t been invented, yet…
Stick around and keep the coffee flowing. Because today we will explain what the phrase “kapok markets” is all about in our ChartPack…

“Why, we’re so old, there were times when copy/paste hadn’t been invented, yet…”
I’m so old I remember our typing department at Page Communications in DC cutting out blocks of typed (Selectric, justified) paper and pasting them on thick backing paper to make photo-ready pages for Air Force MILT9941 manuals!
Thus unknowingly providing the basis for a future name for a similar electronic process.
“… Why, we’re so old, there were times when copy/paste hadn’t been invented, yet…”
Made me think of white out (scuse the white privilege thing) then the IBM Selectric (ball typeset with correction, sorta). The word processor changed life. It was nuts and bolts leagues better than before. Most of the rest? Advanced robotics. For now.
ATL : the Labor Day Regatta looks blown out until Monday, the backup to hit five races. Now? All or nothing three on Labor Day Monday. sounds just Goldilocks for this sailor. Sidebar : I am still recycling trophies from youth so will try to win without winning.
Be aware the Bear-on-the-boat about not imbibing until the hook was set doesn’t apply to inland lake racing. I take a brew or two in soft cooler along with gloves and bandana (should the Pirate urge require it). Fav. story is hot crew daughter complaining to her Mom that I had beer onboard for between races. I tried to recruit the young lady but her Mom, a top fleet racer, wouldn’t have it.
Hard cheese here. Both Mrs. E and I were surprised our almost 22 YO Tom survived the night. My guess is the Mrs. hasn’t told him it’s OK to go. They are best buds. Cat’s got my tongue …
It’s a gorgeous morning. Unless you’re a sailor. Make it count!
Always, Egor
Yo G- Pops,
Lets try a spelling exercise for starters, shall We? If at home reading, please follow these steps;
1) Bend Over, nice and slowly
2) Spell out loud RUN
Great – now we got the Blood flowing in Vortices, let there be understanding; if you are “wandering” over to the market life boats I think you will be late, lord knows the MARCH Hare no likey LATE..https://youtu.be/hHY4JXH8y0k?si=M4dnKEl5x6BULuMC
I recommend RUNNING to Life boats. A little late as some market participants have been loading dumptrucks full of hedges lately.
The “wandering” attitude has me wondering; Too Cool for School, or perhaps Too High to Fly? Whatever the case – time to check the Knot on Ure surf Trunks, lest you be flashing the beach after the next set of Board Breakers rolls thru, cant you feel the “water” SUCKING out into the next Kahunna?

No, old sport – not late – it’s just all on how you want to integrate Hilbert into your outlooks as this POAM (pig of a market) rolls oer.
One can’t help but notice, old chap, you haven’t been huffering and puffering on the goodness of your beloved cryptos at 108,500-ish today. I am again reminded (with crapto) of the line in War Games: “The only way to win is not to play the game.” That was 1985, or so. Learn once, practice always.

George,
It seems the Maya of Central America held the kapok tree in high regard. Apparently they believed in a “quadripartite” order with the trees holding up our world, as well as connecting with the spiritual worlds above and below. Let’s keep climbing the beanstalk; stay anchor-secured?
on 8/30/2024 btc was trading at $59,000. today it’s $108,000, annual rate of return 89%. what do you expect for returns? markets don’t zig and zig. they zig and zag. gold returned about 39% about the same as silver, DOW 10%, NVDA 46%

When I left my high paying job in the corporate jungle in 1980 and started my own chemical consulting business, “cut and paste” literally meant cut and paste. With a good printer, pair of scissors and jugs of Elmer’s white glue, I was in business, submitting product labels on behalf of my clients to the Canadian government (by mail) for approval. When I hired my first employee in 1982, they took over cut and paste and I started the marketing division.
Damn fine memories.
Tell us about the knee surg recovery BIC?
Well g, TKR is an adventure for sure. Not for sissies as one of your readers noted last week. Your Monday column on personal pain guide was excellent and some helpful comments from your readers, I have embraced.
The surgery went very well. The surgeon is top rated and his team could not have been any better. In the hospital front door at 10:30 am. In the operating room at noon. Recovery room at 2 pm. “Walked” out the front door with a new knee at 5:30 pm. Home in bed at 6:30 pm. The post op anesthesia pain relief honeymoon lasted about 8 hours. It was nice. I had been in 24/7 pain for 7 months before the surgery.
I was warned about the pain ahead of time and thought I knew what to expect. I missed the mark. It really comes down to the mental tiger slaying the physical pain dragon. It took a few days to realize that the pain of exercise was bad but had to be done. Being unable to take NSAIDS, I was stuck with Tylenol and the heavy duty pain killers. I took as required. Backing off now. Icing the knee regularly is critical. It is a combo deal and a long process. I did 4 weeks of pre surgery physio visits and started post surgery visits yesterday.
I am blessed with a strong faith, good doctors, good family and friends. In the end that is my best pain medication, especially in helping the mental tiger sharpen the claws and put out the dragon flames.
I was scheduled for a replacement 12/2/24 sometime in late september.I told the surgeon I wasn t pushing a walker thru snowbanks. We went south for the winter and i went looking for alternatives. I found Dr Stephan Stokes a chiropracter in Ft myers fl. He s into herbs, collegen, jello and fish oil, There was improvement but slow. I wasn t in pain any more but my new surgeon claimed my knee cap was shot and while i was healthy at 81 , now might be the time. July 1,surgery went well , out for lunch. Pain was never above a 6 , taking trimodol. I didn t need the oxycodone. Toward the end of the trimadol, I developed fluttering in my ears so i skipped a pill and it went away, back with the next. I didn t use the last 3 pills and didn t need them . The Dr. nor the pharmacy could understand the fluttering. Now, an hour of any thing is enuff—starts to cramp, pt is going well but have trouble getting up off a low chair, bar stools are the best. Doing yard work, stacking firewood, washing windows and some painting on a stepladder have there time limits . Napping comes easy so it s not put off. GOOD LUCK !!!!
Thank you for your input @disappointment. We are about the same age and it seems your experience is worth me listening too.
One thing I think I have been misreading is the 1 to 10 pain scale. When you mentioned not being above a 6, it made me dig deeper. Here is a very good chart
https://www.disabled-world.com/health/pain/scale.php
No way in hell was I experiencing a 9 or 10 as I often expressed. Your assessment of a 6 is what I am experiencing at worst. Now I can save myself further embarrassment at the doctor station, when I get asked this question and also can work toward a 3 or 4 as a short term pain goal from where I am now.
I will be aware of the side effects your mention and continue to move the pain down with better scientific thinking so this has been helpful. My range of motion is improving substantially after 9 days. 140 degrees before surgery and back to 116 degrees already.
P.S. I never thought about pushing the walker through snow banks but living where I am in Canada, I will certainly wait until at least next June to get the other leg done ?
Break up or shortly after – then better wx for all of rehab
I have experienced both level-9 and level-10 pain.
You don’t want to…
Tell me about it Ray, please. I would like to know.
The Level-9 was a “Level-9 MI” from 20-some years ago. This spawned the OBE where I “sat” up in the corner of the cardiac room and watched the cardiologist warm up an air-driven saw whilst the nurses prepped me for an angioplasty and a stent. I didn’t know until years later that angioplasties occasionally burst arteries, so the saw was to split me open, in case one burst.
I had my hip replaced in 2007. Great orthopod, great team. They replaced the hip at about 1000hrs. by 1400 I was walking laps around the ward, without pain. I went home the next day, without pain meds (because I didn’t need them.) The hospital wanted to make me their posterboy for orthopedics. Seven weeks later, I tripped on a carelessly-laid extension cord, fell on my side, and broke my femur in 54 places. This is the only time in my life I have cried or screamed, from pain. I vaguely remember the ambulance jockeys arriving as I passed out from the pain. It was not pleasant. My local hospital could find nothing wrong with me, but they grudgingly stuffed me in an ambulance and sent me on a long drive to the hospital where I’d had the hip replaced. It took three days to assemble the surgical team, so I was kept pumped full of dilaudid. You can still see all the zip-ties they used to put my femur together again, on my x-rays. After the femur reassembly and hip revision, I was NOT walking the ward the next day, or week…
Wow Ray. You win the bell ringer for 9 and 10. I just needed something to put my current pain in perspective. I was worried after seeing the chart, that if I kept saying 10, they might wheel me to the morgue.
By the way, I continue to enjoy the Orthomolecular News service you introduced to me.
Stay well.

In H.S. and my first summer jobs in the early ‘70s, we used carbon sheets between papers during manual (and later electric) typing to produce text copies. Photos and graphics were often cut-n-pasted onto the typed pages. Mimeograph machines quickly became all the rage, with the ink filled roller tubes, initially manually filled and the tube hand cranked to put out duplicates, which were often inferior to the originals. Miimeographs only initially worked in one color, requiring a manual changing of the color rollers and rerunning the papers for the added pizzaz. Corporations eventually developed automated multicolor mimeographs, followed by the Xerox photo-copy process, which often required manual tuning for correct shading and text intensity. I’m still a big fan of the dot matrix printer/copier (with self-cleaning printer heads).

My county appraisal for the homestead went up about 80% or so this year. Because of age exemptions, the tax districts can’t bill more than a 10% increase, from what I have been told. Meanwhile, there are two constitutional amendments on the November ballot, either of which will put me back under the 100% homestead exemption status. The kids in their debt slave McMansions get screwed, and I soldier on for cash, on the cheap.
I’m more worried about another round of insurance rate reaming. When Ure under-1000 sqft frame house insurance is already 10x the tax rate, you begin to ponder that age-old question – WTF.
Good Charts today. Interesting and informative.

Oh My God… Congress returns from recess..sent coffee out my nose…lol lol lol lets see….pro forma sessions—nothing more than brief, symbolic meetings—that are often used to technically “return” without conducting real business optics optics optics, just to block presidential recess appointments. Meanwhile, the public watches as critical issues like funding, oversight, and transparency (including the Epstein files controversy) get buried under political maneuvering and double talk.. how can you tell if a member of congress is lying..he opens his or her mouth lol. It’s not just about time off they take so often—it’s about the erosion of moral urgency. When governance becomes nothing more than a kabooky theater, and service becomes delayed strategy, the soul of a republic starts to flicker. This aught to be good lol lol let me see..I will put on my Swami hat…oom oom oo sabra the spirits are about to speak.. yup not a dam thing will be accomplished….
LOL LOOB – God is a comic, DC is his playground, and we’re the audience…all makes sense with enough vo9dka
Or some good sativa…. lol lol lol….just drove by the private jet that lobbyists pay for our congressional members is still sitting in the hanger.. lol lol they should drag it out and wash the dust or mold off of it before taking it up for a flight..lol lol lol
I love reading about all the supplement stacks everyone is taking for various reasons, since that was how I was raised.
Mom’s family used herbs as an Amish family. And my a Poppa had too many children to be able to afford running to the doctor all the time. I believe I’m the only one to be born at a hospital, which was my last time as a patient
My younger brother once broke his leg, the doctor refused to treat him unless he got a tetanus shot. Poppa asked him to sign a paper guaranteeing my brother would not get tetanus. Of course the doctor refused…. and set the bones. None of us ever got ANY jabs.
I’m pushing pushing 60, and have tried many of the supplements based on your recommendations. Unfortunately, I haven’t found any supplements that make much if any difference in how feel. Some I still take as a preventative. But in general, other than slowing down some, I generally feel just fine and rarely get sick (fingers crossed).
I think we’re all constructed differently, and so need different supplements. For those of you with constant pain, I feel for you, (though I’m sure I have no idea what is like).
I’m a bear to be around when I even have a small headache! I’ve always been able sleep it off anytime I have one (plus I’m not around anyone). I’ve never taken any of the pain meds such as aspirin or Tylenol. Haven’t needed them even when I had all my teeth yanked and cut out for dentures.

Billy’s Cheap-Ass Empty Beer
Can Grade Crappy Space Drive
Y’all no doubt recall Einstein’s
thought experiment regarding
trains, and clocks, and observers,
and the time dilation near
lightspeed and so forth, so I need
not repeat all that here.
A “space drive” is usually thought
to be a non-reaction mass propulsion
system – NOT a rocket, which blows
tons of crap out the back (reaction
mass) to use Newton’s Second to
make propulsion.
Now consider…
Guy A and Guy B are strapped into
comfy seats in a cylinder, near the
ends, A chucks a bowling ball to B.
An outside observer sees the cylinder
begin to move as a reaction to A’s toss.
When B catches the ball, motion stops.
When B tosses it back the entire system
returns to where it started.
A vector quantity – momentum – has been
conserved, and all is well. No net displacement
has happened.
Now suppose for the return toss, a tube
lined with feathers snaps into place,
temporarily. The return trip becomes
slightly lossy as SOME of the kinetic
energy has been changed into heat, by
the friction of the ball brushing along
the feathers.
A vector quantity – momentum – has been
changed into a non-vector quantity – heat –
which is radiated away in all directions.
Bowling balls are inconvenient. Something
WITH mass (light won’t do) needs to be
shot at a target, resulting in heat upon capture.
Vacuum tubes do this. Electrons which have
a small mass are accelerated to a plate which
collects them as it gets hot. Electrons don’t
have much mass, which is why your audio
power amplifier doesn’t leap off the shelf.
A real space drive will need something other
than bowing balls and feathers.
But this will work, however poorly. It’s just a
matter of the right materials and methods.
Used beer cans and bowling balls aren’t right.
Maybe a high-speed electro conductive liquid
like mercury or liquid sodium can be coaxed
into making some lossy eddy currents…
…or something.
Magntohydrodynamics in space!
..or something.

I have never been properly schooled in the fine art of Bullshit. The nuisance., the subtleties.
There are several different types and smells.
There is the guy who is full of himself and flat out lies.., it’s all just bullshit. “See how smart I am ! Click here to donate.” There are a lot them.
There is government bullshit – on a couple of levels., all concocted and created to misdirect. To get you looking one way as they try to deal a couple of aces off the bottom of the deck.
Then there are psy-ops guys – who can really mess with your views and logic.., getting a double agent to spell the beans on one of their operations., when in fact they knew he was a double agent and fed him with subtle false-facts on an operation that never even existed., all so they could plant a small package aboard a VIP’s helicopter., while implicating the double agents’ home-agency. You can get your ass run over by these folks.
There are just too many layers – just too many liars. I usually just punch them in the throat., but now., even ‘that’ is illegal.
“I have just been informed by the County Sheriff that throwing someone off an overpass onto the four lane highway below., at rush hour., is absolutely illegal. Didn’t use to be. When did they change that !?”
Subtle misdirection and slight-of-hand use to be an art-form.., now it comes prepackaged and you can buy it off the shelf., or click on it over the internet.
Lets be careful out there. As there is an awful lot bullshit being thrown around.

Glad to see you have corralled the external and internal gremlins. Running a website from where I sit looks like a real PITA, glad I don’t have to do it.
Great postings this week, a lot to think about.
Running a website is fun, simple, and easy.
However…
Every time you add any kind of dynamic content, from ads to scripting, to a forum or comment section, you add many layers of complexity and surrender a degree of both control and the ability to fix or maintain your site. George has limited control over the WordPress interface. He has almost no control over his Co-Lo. He has zero control over Google ads, but he has to figure a way to make them play nice with each other, and with us. Is he running other stuff? I don’t know. What’s worse is he doesn’t know what his Co-Lo or ISPs are running, and has to depend on their acumen to make their daemons, diags, and protection software play nice with each other, his flavor of WordPress, and we, his users.
And then some wanker of a greenhorn sysadmin wannabee changes something, somewhere up the line…
Mowing question:
How does a small flail mower {tractor 3pt hitch} compare to a small bush hog? I have a 5’ bush hog for my big tractor and it is a giant destroyer.
For most mowing I use a Kubota BX20 small tractor (16hp) I’ve been using the stock mid mower but every few years., like today, I hit a stump or rock and break a blade bolt, which means taking off the mower, drilling the bolt out etc, which is getting old.
I can’t find a bush hog smaller than 48″ and since I already have a 60″ one that’s out.
But a 37 or 41″ Flail mower? I know nothing about them, but they look like they won’t break when hitting a rock or stump?

Speaking of Woo and auto-pay.
My residential energy bill includes natural gas and electric. The bill for the July cycle and June cycle was the exact same amount even with a July decrease in electric use of 7% over June with actual meter reads. I called the energy company (DTE) and quizzed customer support, not that they could explain anything. The phone jockey went over the math for each month and determined each bill was correct. No explanation. Simulation theory and laughs had by all, at my expense.
So later I decided to look at the water bill. Water is billed every other month and my bills have been exactly the same for usage ending in March, May and July. Seems weird. Again, actual meter reads.
Ok..told you how to make gator tots and hash brown patties..I got a wild idea.. cut a11/2 inch piece of inch off for a form.. but what about a two inch piece six inches long… put the potatoes on the bottom.. put a hot dog in the center then pack potatoes around it..and behind the dog.. you would essentially have a favor tot corn dog..
I haven’t made any yet..but I am considering doing that..the wife rolled her eyes when she asked me what I was thinking and told her..lol lol been thinking about it..got some Yukon gold potatoes.. they are perfect..leave the skin on..chop up chives…some grunions.. and a shake of that wonderful brown sugar maple seasoning..
Are gator tots and favor tots related?
…And whatthehell are grunions?
