Jobs – Up Somewhat

The Gospel of BLS hath been spoke:

Both the unemployment rate, at 4.3 percent, and the number of unemployed people, at 7.2
million, changed little in March. These measures also changed little over the year.

Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rate for people who are Asian (3.7 percent) decreased in March. The jobless rates for adult men (3.8 percent), adult women (4.0 percent), teenagers (13.7 percent), and people who are White (3.6 percent), Black (7.1 percent), or Hispanic (4.8 percent) showed little change over the month.

The number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks or more) changed little at 1.8 million in March but is up by 322,000 over the year. The long-term unemployed accounted for 25.4 percent of all unemployed people in March.

The two useful metrics we like to dig into are what’s in the database:  and turns out, when we look there, total employment is down both month-on-month and compared with year ago levels:

The other number is the CES Birth-Death Model – where jobs are estimate into – and out of – existrence.

The truth is hard to suss out.  The press room claim is higher, the database says lower, but at the same time, the “made up/CES number” removed, 47,000 jobs.

We’re left thinking of the result as an economy not sure which way it’s going: to war, to peace, to some bright new tech future.

It’s a hard keetle of fish eto smell right before Easter – maybe a good thing the market has the day off.

Global market picture is muddied, too.  England is up a bit, but the rest of Europe has gone Coriolis.  Gold and silver were down, but not too much.  Likewise, BTC was hanging in the mid $55,000s trying to figure out where buyers will come from, too.

Let’s see if any Global Distraction/aliens come from the Artemis flight – which has center stage now with the stock market down for the three day weekend.

  1. Had to work today. Gotta make those employment stats look good and compensate for slackers.
    Still recovering from the bike fall, but I am back riding 4 miles most afternoons. Winds have been bad. Trying to ride in a 20+ mph crosswind with higher gusts is not really good for vertical orientation.
    I am trying out all sorts of compression sleeves and pads. The stealth undershirt MTB pads are due in today. We will see if I can wriggle it on and still breathe.

  2. Shrubs, huh? I gave all mine to the Knights That Say Ni as a burnt offering years back. Those buggers harbor snakes and that is not something I abide near my abode.

    • Grass mat and gravel works next to the house. I have a little garlic growing past the roof run-off in one spot, but no bushes. My copperheads climb, and I found one wrapped around a spotlight fixture. He ended badly.

  3. “Artemis flight”

    Launched on April Fool’s Day w/1930’s tech.

    Maybe they’ll give us a photo of Earth with all the star constellations illuminated in the background. The other planets in full 4k/8k without atmospheric distortion.

    Or they bring back a space blight that kills all the animals and most of the foodies. We die in this scenario. But we die in the end so Mad Max it.

    • I revel in return to deep(er) space. We already landed and as per expectations, shuttle flights became ordinary. Until we had painful losses. A : never have human crew follow fuel into space. So far. This is a totally new piece of kit. Artemis “1” was unmanned, didn’t even have atmospheric support. It’s another brave thing to venture into what is around our blue ball. Go NASA.

        When you can produce an Actual Picture/Photo of a ROUND Earth taken from outer space please post + prove It. Not a artistic representation, not Ai generated, actual Photo with credits..Who,What, and Where was it taken.

        For the thick headed, feeble minded, and plain ole dolts and bumpkins – everything in the News is Fake and or Scripted., everything.
        Including all propaganda coming out about ME War. Dead bodies are not rescued, they are Recovered..

        As our brilliant secretary of defense always says “ I’ ll drink to that” !

        • Tesla cameras are always on but not space dash cams.

          Why did they cheap out the dash cam video on the greatest flight since the 1960’s… one pic with no reference points.

        • Hmm..ok ..Years ago in a research and development office , I had the chance to stand in front of a four?foot holographic cube that displayed a live , real time feed of Earth from multiple satellites. Not an animation, not a rendering an actual composite pulled straight from orbit . And I’ll tell you, the first thing that hit me was pure awe of what I was looking at . The second thing was surprise Earth didn’t look like a perfect round ball we see in photos . From the angle I saw, it had a slightly uneven, almost egg?shaped look which is exactly what you’d expect from a planet that’s an oblate spheroid , wider at the equator and flatter at the poles.

          What really blew me away was the clarity of it all.
          I could see storms swirling over the oceans , cloud systems forming and breaking apart and the slow sweep of daylight moving across continents.
          It felt like watching the planet breathe. And the best part…I literally walked around the Earth in about three minutes lol lol and it only took that long because I got mesmerized by what I was seeing… circling that cube and seeing the whole world from every angle…( I’m still shocked that we don’t have televisions like that..I was but a boy at the time..)

          So People can argue online all day long about what’s real or fake , but I know what I saw with my own eyes . Earth is very real , very alive, and absolutely breathtaking when you see it from above.

          one of my bucket list items was space related some of the kids on the space station let me see what they were seeing by hooking up a camera while they were doing routine chores it to was breath taking.. and one of the reasons I totally love NASA.. they are totally about teaching anyone especially children ..great organization..

We are watching the greatest story ever told…It’s strange how often we hear that today’s conflicts are “religious” in nature, when the behavior behind them looks nothing like the teachings of the great prophets and sages. If anything, the actions of many leaders today resemble the old Hammurabi?style systems of ancient Babylon far more than the compassion?based teachings of Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, Confucius, or the Daoist sages.

    The prophets taught humility, justice, mercy, and care for the vulnerable. They warned against greed , exploitation , and the misuse of power.
    But Hammurabi’s world was built on hierarchy , control , and the protection of the powerful at the expense of the weak . His code enforced order through fear , class division , and harsh punishment and war — not through moral transformation.

    When I look at the world today , the pattern is eerily similar to the codes of ancient Babylon… leaders insulated behind walls , systems that reward desire over ethics and morals , and conflicts that are justified with religious language while the actual behavior follows the old Babylonian model of power , wealth, and dominance . It’s not really faith that’s driving these troubles instead it’s the same ancient impulse to control, to accumulate, and to protect status at any cost .

    What’s ironic is If anything , the great prophets spent their lives fighting against exactly this kind of behavior . The tragedy is that the world still claims their names while repeating the very patterns they warned us about.

    Every year at Easter I read what amounts to as court reporting to the Roman emperor from Pontius pilot.. tgat paints a quite different picture of what actually happened that is totally opposite to what we are taught..
