What Happens After Spring Break?

This holiday Peoplenomics report begins with the new ChartPack and a simple but important point: market risk has shifted. The immediate focus is next week’s trading setup, but the larger question is even more important — what do the next six months, the next year, and even the next decade begin to look like if war risk, energy insecurity, inflation pressure, and market structure are all changing at once? This weekend’s edition pulls those threads together with charts, long-wave comparisons, and a practical look at what may matter most from here.

We also step back from the daily noise to ask a harder question: if the world is moving into a more volatile and poorer era, what are the sensible responses? From market risk to preparedness, from the 1929 comparison to today’s AI-era marketing cycle, this issue is less about headlines and more about positioning — financially, strategically, and personally. Holiday weekend or not, the view ahead may be changing faster than most people think.

  1. According to the Planatir CTO, the future should include jump starting U.S. weapons manufacturing companies to maintain a steady and fresh supply of weapons and delivery systems should a larger scale conflict emerge around the globe. Stockpiling is simply not enough.

One should not be surprised that a leader of the defense industrial complex would not only advocate foreign military sales, but push for robust and responsive manufacturing capability to keep those bombs and bullets coming.

Needless to say, the cost to the U.S. tax payer would be considerable, which is why NATO was advocated at the start of the Cold War – defuse production burden by spreading out the pain across the alliance. Theoretically NATO was a good idea. Implementation was obviously flawed, and the U.S. taxpayer ended up footing the bill. The fall of the USSR led to a fog of complacency falling over the West. Liberals rejoiced and slashed military spending. Russia is steadily rebuilding while China is making serious gains in weapons production capability.

Paul Kennedy’s classic strategic analysis, “The Rise and Fall of Great Powers”, is a Masters’ class in the ebb and flow of military power across the centuries. How did the victors achieve their glory and why did the losers fail? I highly recommend it for anyone who whats to frame today’s global events thru the lens of history. Sadly, humanity is decidedly predictable.

    • Warhammer : thanks for those thoughts. I believe spinning up defense (or, war?) spending has many tangential outcomes. My maternal was a self taught very German over-achiever who helped build weapons at Rock Island, IL. Then, he and his kin migrated around the lower tip of Great Lake Michigan in South Bend, IN (then a manufacturing hub). Mom married a feller (also German throughout) from Elkhart, IN. These men made things. The family bus was sometimes called a *Screw Machine Shop* though I never saw many screws made. We bought screws somebody else made, by hundreds of thousands, to use in machined assemblies.

The above is just to say being a nation that can make things, sometimes build out from Defense spending, has knock-on benefits. The actual kinetic war part? Not so much.

      Have a wondrous weekend alles,

      • What I find is It’s really fascinating how two stories from ancient Babylon point in completely different directions that reek of the similarities of today’s world against those of the past… Nebuchadnezzar’s Hanging Gardens were a real engineering marvel built out of love and the needs if the people..a true testament to human creativity , irrigation technology , and the desire to build beauty in the middle of a harsh landscape. They show what people can accomplish when knowledge, effort, and imagination come together to grow rather than destroy.

On the other per side the Tower of Babel story isn’t about architecture at all . It reads like a parable similar to the ones shared by Jesus Christ, a warning about what ultimately happens when a society follows the Babylonian path of arrogance , greed, and power for its own sake, instead of the needs of society… In that story , the tower becomes a symbol of human pride trying to ‘reach the heavens, and the collapse represents the breakdown of community, humility, and shared purpose.

So on one hand , Babylon gives us the Gardens of growth — a true symbol of what humans can build when they work with wisdom . On the other stories message… it gives us the Tower (is that a tower of greedy desires of politicians) —To stand as a reminder that when ambition turns into domination, everything eventually falls apart.

It really makes me think about our world today . With everything happening in the global landscape i wonder…

Do we still have the choice between building gardens or building towers . One path leads to life , beauty, and community . The other leads to confusion, division, and destruction. The ancient stories weren’t just history or legends — I believe they were warnings written on scrolls carved on tablets an hieroglyphics about the kind of world we create when we forget compassion and chase power instead.

Funny how during the Easter weekend I read the books of Plato and other profits important messages and wonder.. WHAT IF…do we manufacture for death and destruction or Build for future of mankind….

Oh boy another long rant coming …lol lol…It’s heartbreaking for me to watch the world repeat the same patterns the ancient prophets warned us about over and over again.. We’ve traded compassion for greed , community for profit , and wisdom for short term gain .. the greed of the powerful.

And while powerful people chase wealth and weapons, it’s always the innocent who pay the price of their desires …children hiding in rubble instead of baking cookies with their moms , families torn apart instead of sitting together at the table sharing the life events of the day…

We talk about national security and the future industrial needs of the very things destroying worlds cities.. , instead we’ve let our own industries, infrastructure , education , and even our sense of community crumble to the will of a few powerful people seeking more . We could be building a future rooted in resilience… (“Oh Oh here comes my fifty year rant on the need for small solar towers at every substation and homes as nodes”) …local solar grids, clean water systems holding air wells in arid regions gathering atmospheric moisture, greenning up our cities that consume fertile cropland with our urban expansion.., and technology that serves people instead of destroying them . Instead, we keep choosing the path of Babylon instead of the paths of the wise profits.. we follow the path that crumbled the tower of Babylon a world of more, more, more, no matter the cost.

Everyone here knows that I’ve lived through hard times myself , the worst part wasn’t the struggles I faced….it was how people disappeared , even family. A listening ear would have meant more than anything .. That’s why we chose to open our home to others who needed a hand up , not a handout . If more of us lived that way, maybe the world wouldn’t feel so broken .

i know that we can’t fix everything , but instead of industrial increasing for world destruction we really could choose repair, replace, rebuild the infrastructure and industries in a form that reflects compassion over fear, community over isolation , and responsibility for the country over the greedy heads of the few powerful.. That’s what I believe was the path the prophets talked about throughout history and in my mind it’s still the only path that leads anywhere worth going….I hate wars..and profiteering over death and destruction..instead of growth for the good of the worlds nations..

    • There is a HUGE MISTAKE by military planners across the board, an entire way of thinking that unfortunately has infused the political decision making class for a long time in ways that have led to very negative outcomes time after time in the modern era.

That mistake is that BRUTE MILITARY FORCE somehow “WINS” a game for the thoughts and minds of a populous.

Did BRUTE FORCE win for the Austrian-Hungarians who had a Huge Empire and Centuries of Existence? (they CHOSE to enter WW1 thinking their BRUTE FORCE would create a “Win” for them)

Did BRUTE FORCE win for the Ottoman Empire who had a Huge Empire that was even older and longer lasting than the Austrian-Hunarian Empire? (they CHOSE to enter WW1 thinking their BRUTE FORCE would create a “Win” for them)

Did BRUTE FORCE win for the Russian Empire who had a Large Empire (which had greatly assisted the US in both the Revolutionary War and later the Civil War by doing the initial seas blockade of the South which kept Europe from helping the South) and was moderately long lived? (they CHOSE to enter WW1 thinking their BRUTE FORCE would create a “Win” for them)

Did BRUTE FORCE allow the British to keep Northern Ireland, or the French to keep Indo China in the 20th Century? (both CHOSE to enter those conflicts, versus negotiate, thinking their BRUTE FORCE would create a “Win” for them)

Did BRUTE FORCE help the US to “WIN” in Vietnam (how could little North Vietnam stand up to the MIGHTY BRUTE FORCE of the United States?)

Did BRUTE FORCE help the US to “WIN” against Iraq in the 2nd Gulf War? (the people of Iraq would WELCOME a NEW COLONIAL POWER ruling over them, which we would do with our BRUTE FORCE OF MILITARY POWER!! – reality is we had to fight the Iraqi’s for 12 years before we finally negotiated a Political Settlement since BRUTE FORCE wouldn’t do it for us)

Did BRUTE FORCE help the US to “WIN” in Afgahanistan with it’s nearly 20 years of fighting? (our BRUTE FORCE of massive military power would overwhelm the Taliban and they would cave to and accept OUR Values and Beliefs over their historic ones … WE THOUGHT)

Did BRUTE FORCE help the Germans “WIN” in WW1 or WW2?

Those countries that start or join a War thinking Brute Force ALONE is THE WINNING INGREDIENT forget a key underlying foundation of what War is:

“War is Politics by other means” Carl von Clausewitz.

(some have rephased that quote to say “War is Diplomacy by other means”)

When the need for BASIC resources is removed the problem with the Military emphasis on BRUTE FORCE is that it ignores the fact that Wars actually are about Ideas, Values, and Philosophies, things of the mind that survive an assault by BRUTE FORCE and almost always remain intact on the other side of the conflict.

If those you are fighting can not have their Ideas, Values, and Philosophies changed then all BRUTE FORCE does, except for straight resource theft, is to put a temporary hold on a conflict until those on the other side are in a position to respond back with their own BRUTE FORCE.

With Iran (which is NOT a resource War) the US is fighting NOT A WAR OF MATERIAL SUPERIORITY OR WHO KILLS THE MOST .. but a War of IDEAS, and unless you are going to kill every man woman and child of the other side who cherishes THEIR RELIGIOUS BELIEFS in the end then the conflict will be for nought since our use of BRUTE FORCE agains others will return with a vengence.

The US INTENTIONALLY has chosen to start a PHYSICAL War against a RELIGION. A WAR OF CHOICE too, not a War of Necessity. Who’s Religious Beliefs is that going to change no matter how many we kill?

While Mao said that “Power grows out of the barrel of a gun.” he also pushed hard the concept of creating in the minds and hearts of his countrymen the underlying Beliefs and Values of his movement (of course for the total non-believers DEATH of every man, woman, and child was imposed by Mao).

THAT is why Mao embedded “Political Officers” in every group and every level of his military right down to Company level. In his view IDEAS have more power than guns in the end … which is why even to this day China has “Re-eduction Camps” so as to change the thinking of those who think differently from their acceptec norm. (did the Romans sending Christians to be slaughtered in the Coloseum wipe out Christianity? – NOPE, only strengthened the movement)

The US is destined to lose this current conflict with Iran if it keeps thinking BRUTE FORCE is going to change the Religious Beliefs of those IT CHOSE to attack. Don’t ask me how or why that loss will occur since I have no idea, but history is adament that IT WILL OCCUR and the US WILL LOSE.

The Israeli approach of KILLING each person who steps up to Negotiate for Iran, which THEY started doing with their attack on the Negotiators for Hamas in Doha Qatar during Israel’s attacks on Gaza, and are now doing again today with Iran’s negotiators wrt the current conflict, is only guaranteeing that there will be NO negotiated settlement to this War. (For the current Iran – US/Israel conflict the Israelis directly attacked the ast Iranian negotiator who was to go to Pakistan to meet with JD Vance by directly bombing his house killing his wife and injuring him)

Obvously the Israelis do NOT want any negotiations between the Iranians and the US to take place, a message with the Iranains have now finally accecpted so after the Israeli’s have now killed a couple of sets of the Iranian Negotiators why would ANY Iranian Negotiator EVER AGAIN even try to negotiate ANYTHING with the US wrt the War that the US and Israel started?

I will put this out there, and I am sure most of you will hate me for it, but this War that Israel and the US started will eventually lead to the destructruction of the State of Israel as it currently exists.

Israel as a Nation State may still exist but it’s udnerlying dynamic of ONLY being a nation of Jews with millions of others existing under their thumb of military occupation (ie: an Apartheid Mlitary Occupation Regime) will no longer exist.

Israel as a Nation State may exist such as that there is a nation that is called “Israel” but as a nation state actually has voting for all, including the 3.5 million Palestinians in the West Bank and another 1 million in the Gaza Strip, … OR those places may finally be allowed to separate and be their own countries …. OR it may cease to exist at all.

I don’t know the final outcome but again history says that the current situation wrt Israel is an unstable dynamic and unless Israel is going to go kill every man, woman, and child in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip (ala effectively what the US did to the Native Americans – but versus kill, we just moved them to “empty land” which is NOT an option for Israel) that dynamic is inherently unstable and will fall of it’s own weight.

BRUTE MILITARY FORCE is a losing strategy wrt Iran. It could well be the final nail in the coffin to dragging the United States down to losing it’s status as the leading country in the World. (which the Thucydides Trap dynamic already says we are destined to have happen to us -this would just accellerate the timing)

Sad times. I don’t smile as I think about any of the above.

      Prepare for Second Suns.

As the US and Israel get more and more desperate that they can not accomplish their unexplained OBJECTIVES wrt Iran they WILL (imo) keep RAMPING UP the levels of their attacks.

Eventually in frustration to try to get the Iranians to GIVE UP THEIR RELIGIOUS BELIEFS and their Independence from rule by a NEW Set of Colonial Overlord, the US or Israel (or both) will use Second Suns against Iran. At that point in time the world will change, never to be the same again.

      • “I will put this out there, and I am sure most of you will hate me for it, but this War that Israel and the US started will eventually lead to the destructruction of the State of Israel as it currently exists.”

Nostradamus and The Third Age of Mars, The Prophecies of World War III, G. A. Stewart, 2019, Page 796
According to Nostradamus, Israel is not going to be saved by some miraculous, heavenly intervention. Israel’s greatest cities will be devastated by war, and its citizens will flee Israel for what remains of Europe…

This is also found in Islamic Hadith. “From Khurasan (Northern, Iran)… a man named Shuayb, the son of Salih, from Tamim… will defeat the companions of The Sufyani… he comes to the House of Jerusalem where he will establish his power for the Mahdi…”

There is high probability that the first nuclear detonation will happen coincident with The Battle of Armageddon. I suspect that this first use of a nuclear weapon in the 21st century is why this prophecy is so important and foundational to all the Abrahamic religions.

      • I’m convinced that we lost this war from the day it started, and there’s no possibility of prevailing. IMHO, it was and is the most idiotic war of the current century, essentially alienating the entire world for the glory of Israel – the country that started it.

I’m no geopolitical engineer and want nothing to do with it. We handed the Strait to Iran while cutting off oil and fertilizer to the world. Why? Ideology perhaps, but ultimately I see no value in starting it at all. The real question, which should have been asked and answered before the war began, is “How on earth will we get out of whatever we start here?”. There may be another answer, but from my perspective, the only way out is to retreat and apologize. Let Israel fight its own wars. It’s none of our business.

        • Since y’all didn’t read this earlier, after I posted it last night, I’ll just hang it here again:

BREAKING: THE FIRST CITY HAS FALLEN. ?To everyone who said regime change would never happen: LOOK AGAIN. It is happening. Right now. In the streets of Abdanan, the Iranian people have done the unthinkable. They have taken back their city.

The local police didn’t just stop—they laid down their weapons and sided with the people. Let’s be clear: This isn’t the work of Trump. This isn’t the work of Netanyahu. This isn’t about foreign militaries. The regime’s Army, Navy, and Air Force have been gutted from the inside, and now the Iranian people are the ones who are armed, angry, and unstoppable. They aren’t waiting for a savior—they are saving themselves. The streets are on fire. The old guard is crumbling. The people are rising to take back what was stolen from them decades ago. History is being written in blood and fire tonight. Abdanan was the first. It will not be the last. THE REVOLUTION IS HERE. Regime Change in progress.

          https://x.com/afshineemrani/status/2040574811211239653?s=20

Donald Trump can absolutely not win the war against Iran.
He can also not install a puppet.
Either course of action will leave Iran fragmented and factionalized, and at the mercy of the next Ayatollah who can pull a dominant portion of the IRGC together under his pennant.

The war between the United States and Iran is a war between good and evil. The U.S. have not always been the “good guys,” but in this endeavor, we are, and failure is not an option. Trump has no intention of failing. However, the only way he (and we) can succeed, is if the Iranians throw off the mantle of tyranny. The Persians have to do this themselves. We can give them air cover, materiel, logistics, and intel, but they, themselves have to purge the IRGC and Basij from Iran (and hopefully this plane of existence.)

Once they do, there will be no holy jihad in the Middle East, for the first time since 1911, no threat of someone HEMPing us out of existence to usher in the arrival of the 12th Imam, and no organized Muslim terrorist threat anywhere in the world. It will not make human existence all sunshine and roses, goodness and light, but it will remove one really heavy straw from everyone’s back.

Y’all need to stop investing so much time, pondering Iran as if it were a 20th Century war. It is not, and it’s also not that complicated.

          Just relax.
          Have a beer.
          Enjoy the fresh air.
Rejoice in making it through another Easter (and be thankful your grandkids aren’t as big smartasses as mine have become, since I last saw them…)

      • I truly would like to add you and ray to my Xmas card list.you both resonate my thoughts on just about everything..god bless you and I hope and pray your Easter is one of peace and deep reflection..

  2. George,

For the European markets, the next 5 trading days(Note Easter Monday is a European holiday not observed in the US) represent the terminal nonlinear portion of a 28 day 2nd fractal in either a 17 Feb 2026 3-phase 11/23 of 28/28 day :: y/2.5y/2.5y or a 17 Feb 2025 4-phase 11/23 of 28/22/16-17 day :: y/2.5y/2y/1.5-1.6y lammert fractal crash decay series where Monday 13 April 2026 for the European STOXX will likely end +/- 10% of its 7 April 2025 low. During the coming severe recession, the Chinese economy with its 160% corporate to GDP debt ratio and its ongoing housing bubble collapse – where citizens have placed their wealth – may suffer the greatest economic implosion, whereas the US equity market – most overvalued, mal-invested, and over-leveraged – will likely suffer the greatest peak to final nadir lost: 75-90%.

    • Holy Crap.., Batman !! A 90% drop in equities !? You sure you want to stick with that assessment / prediction ? That is a forecast for a world wide depression and society collapse.

      …, damn !

        • Yep – it does.., and I am not saying anything derogatory.., I am simply asking a question.

The outcome of a 90% drop is staggering.., economically, financially., socially. Wow !

[ Did you just tell me to ‘do the math’ ? Really?]

          “Stay Frosty !”

        • LOL – no I would never be that arrogant to tell you..er…snickers into his sleeve. I know better doc, but if someone don’t pull yourw tail, it wouldn’t bve fun to visit this here hoe down. I’m still dealing witht he staggering part of what a second depresion will mean – and no point even trying to talk to my son about it – he’s picking up a new truck today…sheesh – kids!

    • 75 -90% equity loss. I’m making a note of the call. I would assume that would have to go hand-in-hand with runaway equity credit deflation, margin calls, and massive liquidations of bad investment debt, accompanied by over-leveraged firms and funds disappearing. That is very much from the 1929 runaway credit deflation script.

Next items on the the potential economic horror show script would be consumer and business credit implosion, and spiraling property foreclosures. Read that as a reversal of employment gains as well.

Last item on the way to the bottom could be consumer price hyperinflation, but that one I would not speculate on. Whether we will see consumer hyperinflation or deflation will probably be as much as a currency issue as anything with massive public and private debt unwinding. I am certain there will be luxury item price deflation, and some real estate deflation, but consumer prices are a different issue. The thing to keep in mind is that if the currency value tanks, and consumer prices skyrocket, but real estate and luxury goods stagnate, then in real constant dollars, you have real estate and luxury good deflation (in real constant dollars), even if prices don’t really drop. Deflation at the consumer level is reduction in expense in real constant dollars, not in sticker prices.

      • President Donald Trump on Saturday warned Iran that “time is running out” if it wants to reach a deal with the United States.

“Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Time is running out – 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them. Glory be to GOD!” he added.

        Don’t forget what Stu said…

        “Global War starts at Easter.”

        • “Don’t forget what Stu said”

          Stu is not God.

He doesn’t govern, initiate, or instigate anything that happens.

He interprets the rantings and riddles a witch doctor made, nearly 500 years ago, and attempts to put them in chronological order and make some semblance of sense from them. He does a pretty good job, considering, but understand, he’s working with four sliding variable scales: Time, event, people or nations, and the fourth scale: “Is this an actual prediction, or just extraneous rambling?”

Stu believes that “global war starts at Easter.” He believes Nostradamus is referring to Easter, 2026, and he has a fair track record of decoding Nosty’s prophecies, but there is no guarantee that a global war will ever occur, that it will happen at Easter, or that it will happen within a thousand years of 2026.

Please accept Nostradamus, and Stu’s interpretations, as a “best guess” and not something based in reality. You’ll live longer and enjoy life a lot more…

  3. automatic,,, becomes autonomous,,, as in automobiles and robots and farm machinery

  4. well i actually read the introduction in peoplenomics and cant understand this new 2026 AI language . so dumb old me will just continue what i am doing , and as the smartest man in the world in new york ,SJK tells me , and the only one , your so right len patience and discipline.

  5. I feel like World War III started under the Obama administration with the takedown of Libya 2011, 2014 with the CIA, taking down the pro Russian president in the Ukraine, then Covid, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine…taking down Venezuela and Iran makes sense under this view.

Thank goodness Trump gave Ukraine the javelin antitank missiles during his first term, Putin still pissed for sure.

    • Determining an exact date is a lost cause, but IMHO, the demise of the World Trade Center in 2001 was the defining moment.

  6. there is one thing nobody even discusses here and it is the most important metric . its in a place of a very serious change . but due to the wonderful respect some of us get . forget it . do what you like

  7. One Airman remains missing – Trump just gave Iran 48 hours to turn him over. They won’t. However, this is ‘Trump’.., and he seems to always find a way to ‘not’ follow through.
He was reversed himself so many times in the past three weeks., it is down right embarrassing. And now, he was given Iran another ultimatum .., which is Monday morning.
    .
If you missed it.., we just took out Irans’ biggest bridge.., still under construction, but damn near finished. Pretty good looking. Now, toast. And they are a bit peeved over that.
    .
As good as I am with a raised bed vegetable garden, I can not grow enough food to get us from harvest to harvest. Just can’t do it. Luckily I have the means to supplement what I can “grow” with what I can “buy” [ for now., anyway.] and store. Can you ? Have you? Will you?

The future?.., it looks really fugly if you research a bit. It might be best if you didn’t. Just buy as much shelf-stable food as you can afford – monthly – & stock-up. It won’t go to waste. Empty out a hall closet and turn it into a #10 can pantry – a friend of mine did just that and has over a years’ worth of consumables stashed in it., with some room to spare., and he says it’s small closet. [ He managed to fill it rather fast – as he sold a couple very nice rifles to immediately buy what was on his wanted/wish list. He is single., no close-by relatives and really does enjoy simple meals. To hear him talk, you would never imagine his background. He drove across his State., to a well-known survival store., got what the bulk of what he wanted – paid cash – no track-back. He commented on the slight smiles the cashier & stock-helper gave when he pulled a roll of bills from his pocket to pay.]

    “Stay Frosty !”

    • I have a pretty good idea what it will take for me to feed myself, and it will require that I have diesel, and spend about 20K or more for equipment upgrades. And if it comes to that, I figure I will be living in the woods in a fox hole, farming in between raids. Think Rhodesia or SA conditions, or worse.
Back when hardy pioneers worked and lived off the land, very few lived past 50. Starvation was a constant threat. And game and land were more plentiful back then, with a lot less hostile competition. I’m not particularly optimistic about a fast dry slide back to the eighteenth century, without mechanization or draft animals. Ray and I visited this issue in EMP discussions.

      • Who’s going to raid you?

If your “survival” is done right, no one will know you are there.

Crops and gardens are a wash. You hide them as best you can. You approach your plot from different directions, at different times, and ONLY after scouting or surveying your cameras (assuming they still work.) Once your garden is found, you do not defend and you never go back; you remain hidden, because it is more-important that you avoid discovery than any amount of food on the hoof, or turf.

You can survive six weeks without food (you won’t like it, but you can do it, as long as you have sufficient water.) You can not survive more than a few hours with a half-dozen pieces of lead buried in your internal organs (you’ll like this even less than starving…)

I’ve been doing prep-planning WRT EMP ever since 1999, which is 10 years before One Second After made a few million F/SF fans aware of the potential for “death by EMP.” The one thing I’ve always stressed is the importance of utter stealth. You hide. You don’t move. If you ever enjoy a hot meal, you’d damn’ well better know how to build a smokeless fire and how far cooking smells will drift, and KNOW there’s no human downwind — EVER!

If you have to run, you do so before the local good ol’ boys and the po-po realize the gravity of the situation, so you can be {wherever it is you’re going} before the locals to your hidey-hole can see you coming.

If you and yours can’t survive 10 months without a hot meal, you’re probably dead, unless you have a redoubt in the Mojave or in Northern Michigan/Wisconsin/Minnesota/Dakotas or Montana, where population densities are very thin and trees and brush which filter smoke, scent, and light are plentiful.

The pioneer stock died young, because raiding Indians and outlaws raided, doctors were few and medicine was literally in its infancy, for every way you or I can think of to die, Mother Nature in primitive lands could think of about 200, and most-importantly, no one had any knowledge of the importance of hygiene. There’s a reason I learned how to make soap (and shampoo) from scratch, and bought a case of lye. It ain’t because I want to hang out at the local farmer’s market, or hit on the hippy chicks…

        • Ray-That requires a prepositioned remote stealth rural retreat. Those sort of places are tough to come by in this operating environment. Physical structures draw in the curious.
Given that I have had to physically eject multiple poachers from my own property, I figure when their kids get hungry enough, they’ll be back with buddies and will be taking anything they can get their hands on. They aren’t the pitch in and partner types. And that doesn’t address starving urbanites and their kids randomly fanning out all over the countryside looking for something, anything to eat.

        • Considering that the average age on this site may well be 75(best guess), many won’t be able to walk any distance and will need to rely on stealth and secrecy as their only real options. Yes, keep the food and supplies distributed and out of sight, but living to your legitimate maximum lifespan may not be in the cards. We can all do our best.

I’m sure keeping a hippy chick around would both motivate living better and help out enormously with of food production and preps.

        • “Ray-That requires a prepositioned remote stealth rural retreat.”

No, it requires that you place yourself in your hidey hole before she shitshow starts — You are preferably already there.

I have an escape plan for IF I happen to be discovered, not WHEN the neighbors come by to raid my pantry. My preference is to not move. If you don’t move, you don’t make tracks. That’s kinda like, if you don’t light a fire, you don’t make smoke. If the shit truly hits the fan, people who move around or burn things won’t outlive the zombie apocalypse. It will take about 10 months for the zombies to die off… comprendé?

Mike: I am another one of those 70-somethings. I am also a paralytic with a heart condition. I am also absolutely certain I can walk 150 miles a week, for several weeks, with a 30 pound pack, if my (or my kids’) life depends upon it, since I have days where I do 22 miles in under 8 hours, with a 40 pound pack.

I do not accept the existence of the word “can’t.” If I did, I would have been dead, over 40 years ago…

        • (“No, it requires that you place yourself in your hidey hole before she shitshow starts — You are preferably already there.”)

exactly…. I am amazed at how some buy a place to escape to..not once considering..travel…
I was forced to walk to work ..12.5 miles.. I could catch a ride home..but walk before..I was in shape then and could keep a good pace up..start time was 7am..I would leave between 11 and 12…. sometimes I would make it sometimes I was late..
so..if you bought a place a thousand miles and it hits the fan..your not getting there..in the early seventies.. in DC..we had to go down..it ended up to be a false alarm.. I asked the boss..they didn’t put out a warning..his response was..they never will..it would create panic..then he told me that a member of congress told his friend in NYC that had preparation but he wasn’t at home..he didn’t make it in time..if it had been an actual event ..he wouldn’t have made it in time..
a friend of mine.. lives in the middle of nowhere… ext door to him is a government communications bunker..big enough to house a small city..its impressive…. but… its mikes from anywhere.. we were looking at it and we both started to laugh..well your set up you just have to figure out how to get in it..

    • Three-Piece…Trump never follows through you say? Please remind me of what has been happening in Iran for the last four weeks? I’ve heard rumor there is something going on. Exit question…If you are confused about what his intentions are (as smart as you are an all), could it be possible that the Mullahs are too. Is it even remotely possible that is part of the plan? Ponder that.

      • Three times Trump has issued a time- threat – and three times he has ignored it.
        .
        Ponder that.

        • It is never about what Trump says. It is ALWAYS about “the deal.”

Mr. Trump will say anything, to make the parties with whom he’s dealing, uncomfortable or off-balance. He will deal, and quickly, once he has an advantage. Until he has an advantage, he will both feint, and apply various types of leverage, nudging things in different directions, to see what moves, where and when, and how it can be used to his advantage. If you think of him as using a verbal Brazilian ju-jitsu you’ll begin to understand.

We don’t need the Strait. Europe, Australia, and the Pac-Rim do. Trump is using it to try and get them to cover their own assets, rather than depending on us (and the Saudis) to do so. He is also levering us out of NATO because except for a few States, they’re worthless and a huge waste of our money. By the time Iran is tamed, we will have dumped NATO and negotiated bilateral agreements with Poland, Hungary, Romania, Croatia, and the Baltic States (who are in the process of dumping NATO, the EU, or both, and forming their own coalition.)

There’s an awfully lot of stuff going on in the diplomatic channels. Very little of it is apparent. Absolutely none of it will make your nightly news ’cause even Fox and NewsMax get their copy off the wires, and the wires are anti-American bullshit & blather…

  8. Article this morning on Yahoo Finance – What history tells us about the stock market going forward. – I didn’t read it. Because it’s total bull.
There has never been a time in history, ever, like the world is today.
We have Third World, hate filled countries with the means to destroy the entire world., at the push of a button.
The U.S. alone has enough debt and derivatives in play that surpass our entire economy., many times over.
We have a population so disconnected., so ‘me first’., so lost in greed and abuse that there is no way we could ever survive a dramatic down-turn., or a food shortage. This ‘culture’ would simply explode. [ Remember the knife fights in the aisles over toilet paper – when there wasn’t even a shortage? Now – imagine the last can of tuna fish on the shelf. ]
No.., there has never been a time in history like this. Never have we been so far apart – on just about everything.
Some rural communities will pull together and cooperate – but only at gun point. The large cities? .., damn ! Major war zones. If the violence doesn’t get you – starvation will.., and just where are you going to get clean drinking water?
There has never been a time like this. The last Depression? The vast majority of the population lived in rural communities, ranches and farms. Today? The vast majority are all suburban and have no idea how to grow – well – anything., and cooperate? Not gonna happen – they are not going to share and help each other.

I look around my small little town – lot of good people – a number of bad. What are all the people in the apartments and condo’s going to do when the stores empty-out and the trucks stop delivering? It could easily happen around here. We are not on any major delivery route., well over an hour off of any interstate. We will be the first on the list that gets cut from those truck routes. Then what?
People don’t play-nice when their kids are hungry. And there are a lot of kids around here. And if you do have a garden., you better be prepared to defend it. Which brings a serious question to the discussion-table. Just how far are you willing to go to defend your vegetable patch from thieves and raiders? How much violence is.., justified? It’s yours., you did the work., you and yours will go hungry if a group raids it.

No.., there has never been a time like this. Culturally.., financially.., economically., world standing., possible mushroom clouds, created pandemics [ From many different counties.] and more hate, envy, greed and abuse then I have ever seen, or read about. It is staggering.

History hasn’t taught us a thing. We are bent on ignoring it. It is too painful., and to far back – most have no idea what a Depression actually is and what it is going to do to their lives. They simply can not imagine it.

    I can.

    “Stay Frosty !”

    • “People don’t play-nice when their kids are hungry. And there are a lot of kids around here. And if you do have a garden., you better be prepared to defend it.”

      No.

Never, ever, ever defend your garden. You can chase off a hungry Millennial or two, but within a few days you’ll have to start killing them. When this happens, you’ve lost — your garden, your life, your SO’s life or lives, and the lives of anyone around you who depends on you. Really desperate people will convince themselves that whatever you’re defending is worth taking, or you wouldn’t defend it with such dedication. They will keep coming until they do so in sufficient numbers to overrun and kill you and everyone who’s with you.

Parents who go to sleep listening to their screaming children slowly starve to death, become really desperate, really quickly…

      You can hide your garden.

You can buy an acre or two in the wilderness of the Eastern Columbia River Basin, in the area where WA/ID/MT touch the Canadian border, and either only go there to tend your garden, or develop it as a hidey hole (or both.)

But you can not defend what you have, and survive, without the help of several dozen like-minded “hobby farmers” (which kind of defeats the purpose…)

  9. (“I am not saying that the actual crash must happen in June, but June looks very disturbing to mentioned”)

Hmm… not june…The predictions that a full?blown depression will hit in June, but that doesn’t line up with how major economic collapses have actually unfolded throughout history . Depressions don’t appear out of thin air or on a specific date ( which is why the stories the world will end at six o’clock on this date..never seems to happen…) Instead they build slowly, when rising prices outpace people’s ability to keep up with the costs, when their debt piles up beyond their ability to pay for it, and when a major shock exposes the cracks in the Total system.

If anything, what I am seeing now is that inflation continuing to climb while we pour enormous resources into global military commitments..( just yesterday the story at work was how gas rose over night). That kind of pressure can strain an economy ( my favorite restaurant that was always packed had to clise..the prices of utilities and repairs the cost of food labor etc. out paced their ability to continue operating), it doesn’t automatically mean a collapse in June will happen… Historically ,if we really look at it objectively the real danger comes when economic stress is followed by something like a severe drought or a major crop failure . Food shortages have triggered more social and economic crises than any stock chart ever has .

So if I personally had to point to a vulnerable moment coming in the near future, it wouldn’t be this June — instead it would be after harvest season in the fall, and only happen if we see a significant reduction in crops due to a massive drought and reduced harvests. But if the harvest is strong this year, even that risk fades… In other words, my belief is that the timing isn’t mystical or can be predetermined as happening on this date and time. Instead i believe It depends on real?world conditions , not in calendar predictions…the war and military expenses is only increasing the expense of a country already struggling with rising costs..the big campaign issue locally..is house taxes.. they had a deal where if your income was below a level..dam our taxes were there with room to grow..I went to the county courthouse .. they had five tables open and a line representing lines we use to have for car tags over three hundred at the opening of the courthouse….I get up there and am told nope you dont qualify taxes stay.. then the lady says..yes its sad I have to tell everyone that they don’t Qualify..One guy in the line with me was saying his tax expenses are double his monthly home loan..

the the coworkers at the workplace..I’m there helping people you get than myself.. they were commenting on the sudden increase on fuel..and two of them had to take a second job..which is where I interjected that’s why I had to get a job..basic costs outpaced our income..

  10. Lol lol…The who I call the morning glory coffee cluutch.. ( they are early riders ..and are old farm wives that were always up before dawn getting meals prepared for husbands before morning chores ) are actually a couple years you get than me.. I have the coffee ready for their daily 3:30 am coffee conversation..a lot of the kids complain about their coffee group..I say welcome I totally get why they get together at that hour..

  11. USDA Plantings report show a record low acreage for Corn and near record low for wheat and oats.

A very weak demand for Easter chocolates have driven the cocoa futures lower. Something about this smells – there is no shortage, but the media has been constantly repeating that chocolate is going to be much higher this Easter. ., and gee – lookie here – cocoa futures are dropping. Does that seem even just a wee bit ‘fixed’?

West Texas Tea is $112 [ up 11% this morning] a barrel but North Brent is still below it., at $109 a barrel. Think I’ll build a chart on this. Doesn’t happen very often – why and what are the consequences. Match it up to the markets., or bonds.., currencies?

    “Stay Frosty !”

    • Maybe its time for me to buy cocoa..lol..
I buy butter that’s made pretty local..I use to trade cheese for raw milk now they make that instead of just milk sales.. anyway..I got some butter..
today I was going to make myself a grilled cheese sandwich.. and noticed the butter wasn’t soft but instead harder than it should be..
now in the past i have made butter and my own margarine.. for the kids we took jars and made smqll paddle butter churns..and on where you tumble the cream in a jar…when I make margarine.. I use a cup of cream or milk a cup of coconut oil a cup of olive oil a little salt and a touch of lemon juice and a few drops of food coloring. heat it up whip it together until it tastes like you want..( oh yes add what you like..garlic butter or honey butter etc.) So when I noticed the extra stiffness I thought is this margarine or butter..went to the package and yup its a hybrid to save money..mostly butter but some other lower cost ingredients to keep the price lower..they did this in the Reagan recession when they added gradients seen in plaster to cottage cheese to stretch the dollar..
      more profit..
cans and boxes that seem half full..the signs are all here..

    • I ought some coco just in case..the wife is going to roll her eyes..but the grandkids love to make Smores during g summer fire pits.

  12. “As good as I am with a raised bed vegetable garden, I can not grow enough food to get us from harvest to harvest.”

I planted 10 70′ rows of beans Monday, to be followed by 10 rows of purplehull peas and 4 rows of okra in about a month, and that’s not enough to get us to the next harvest without some outside supplementation. Fortunately I have goat and chicken poop to use as fertilizer, so at least I’m not dependent on the supply chain for that.

  13. re: Humpty Dumpty on eggshells
feat: “Etymologiae”, St. Isidore of Seville, 625 ad

Who will don the Easter Bunny costume on Monday for the White House 2026 Easter Egg Roll? The White House webpage on the upcoming event includes a link to a USDA Instagram post featuring the WH egg supplier. Their video stars Secretary Rollins, 33rd US Secretary of Agriculture. Spoiler alert learning moment: eggs are produced on factory conveyer belts. Any planned depiction of caged chickens in the video clip must have been iced.

As chance would have it, this Monday marks the feast day of St. Isadore of Seville. He is the patron saint of the internet, computer users, and students. His 20 volume “Etymologiae” attempted to include everything a civilized person should know to thrive in the 7th century.

  14. I went to Winco this afternoon to reconnoiter the world situation. Parking lot had a lot of vehicles. Inside, I saw nothing to indicate a full-blown panic. Plenty of bananas, milk and bread were on the shelves. Potato bin box had taken a hit for Easter dinner. There were a lot of full carts, but no multi-cart binge buyers were apparent. I did notice the crowd was a lot older than normal. And the grandmoms had their offspring or grands pushing heavily laden carts for them. And as I past the mature shoppers, they were all eyeballing each others carts, and grinning like Cheshire cats. Same with the older check-out clerks; they took one look at what the old folks were buying, and started grinning from ear to ear.
Aside from reconnaissance, my objective was to top off base supplies for a 90 day run starting mid-month. Need to make another run to another store. Bet I see some of the same oldsters on the second run. Reminded me of what I saw going on two weeks before the Covid Saturday Panic. Oldsters doing supply runs trying not to attract attention. I started to buy some six gallon buckets, but that would have been conspicuous hoarding behavior. Inexperienced morons abhor people who think ahead more than 10 minutes.

  15. oh ok . you can all stay long till june . then sell for the crash . love how everybody knows everything . got any lotto numbers or horse tips please ?

  16. “A very weak demand for Easter chocolates have driven the cocoa futures lower.”

“Easter” (and other) chocolates are in low demand because Hershey’s swapped out cocoa butter and chocolate liqueur for vegetable oils and a garbage truck full of artificial flavorings.

A quickie search will turn up that “Hershey’s altered their formula on a few products,” and that they will “revert their recipe in 2027.”

The truth is they altered their recipe on every product, including all the chocolate they were supplying to everyone from Mars to Wrigley. Everyone started getting bombed with complaint letters and finally, Brad Reece (H.B. Reece’s grandson) sued Hershey for torpedoing their products.

You can currently check Hershey’s chocolate out by buying a Hershey bar with a silver wrapper and one with a gold wrapper (I’ve no idea how long the “gold bars” will have Hershey’s original formula. I suspect they did this to use up the real chocolate which remained in their vats, so get it quick.) I guarantee you will taste the difference. The “silver” bar has an unchocolatey taste and an aftertaste which resembles emesis…

    • And..the price…. I don’t know what they are doing extra in the changed recipe..chocolate is really quite easy to make with a very few ingredients.. I showed the grandson how to make it and marshmallows for smores.. ( we used coconut oil so it melted faster..and the cost per bar was pennies instead of dollars..now I didn’t conch it..which is why everyone on my Xmas card list received a chocolate bar mold and instructions..)
if they’re going cheaper..my guess is… could the new ingredient be a wax I’m curious..I don’t buy much chocolate its out of my price range…..

    • Hmm my guess is they took out coco butter and added a vegetable oil which would give it a little different taste almost just not quite the same… coconut oil gives it a little different flavor to with home made and melts faster….I wonder if the change was palm oil Butter or Shea oil which are both good substitutes.. Yeah I just checked the price.. palm oil butter is way cheaper retail than Shea and is used in vegan chocolate and has a melting point almost like coco butter..
in the end..it all about profits and the business model to stay above the Market .. I hate to see that.. I do love their chocolate kisses for double coco in winter..

    • Lol I just ordered palm butter tower what it tastes like in chocolate..its about a third of the cost of coco butter.. but not as cheap as coconut oil but it has the similar melting point of coco butter.. you can actually use butter to But you have to mix ½ butter + ½ palm kernel oil or coco butter for a firmer, more chocolate?like melt…I haven’t ever used milk fat though.I have used 1/2 coconut oil and 1/2 coco butter….but have thought about using dairy butter….like the butter I used yesterday..they added another oil to it which raised the melting point and was cheaper to produce..that would work well in making chocolate..easy measuring to each stick lol..I should try it and see..

  17. re: “The Prince and the Pauper”, Twain, 1881
    feat: Whistler’s Mother’s good chemistry

Goodbye Spring Break! Easter weekend has seen a coincidental meeting at Whistler-Blackcomb, B.C. A trio comprised of Prince Harry, supermodel and Olympic ski gold medalist Eileen Gu, and former PM Trudeau are pictured riding a chairlift together. ChatGPT notes with “high confidence” that the lift is servicing the “Harmony Express” area. The AI felt that an expert alternate “Glacier Road” might overpower the PM and Prince (as skiers of) “mixed-ability”.

American-born, Mandarin-fluent Miss Gu is in high demand by sponsors following her gold and silver medal winning ways for Team China at the recent Winter Olympics in Italy. According to “Women’s Health”, her Chinese mother studied biochemistry, molecular biology, and molecular genetics in America. Miss Gu wishes to encourage international communication and understanding. Here is a link to one of her Instagram posts from the Paris Olympics:

    https://www.instagram.com/p/C-lOX99AFlL

Perhaps President Xi can invite Miss Gu and her mother to Beijing when President Trump visits in May.

    • To be fluent in Mandarin! That’s a gift. I’m not sure that most Americans could learn the language unless brought up with it from birth. I’ve tried for years and it’s almost possible to learn the oral language, but reading anything serious in Chinese requires a strong visual memory and visual recall, something that interferes strongly with learning oral communication to fluency. If you ever try this language, learn to be absolutely fluent orally before even trying to read and write characters. They’re different skills and don’t work well when trying to learn both at the same time.

      • The kids at the restaurant put a translator program on my phone so we could visit..they speak Mandarin

WE GOT HIM! My fellow Americans, over the past several hours, the United States Military pulled off one of the most daring Search and Rescue Operations in U.S. History, for one of our incredible Crew Member Officers, who also happens to be a highly respected Colonel, and who I am thrilled to let you know is now SAFE and SOUND! This brave Warrior was behind enemy lines in the treacherous mountains of Iran, being hunted down by our enemies, who were getting closer and closer by the hour, but was never truly alone because his Commander in Chief, Secretary of War, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and fellow Warfighters were monitoring his location 24 hours a day, and diligently planning for his rescue. At my direction, the U.S. Military sent dozens of aircraft, armed with the most lethal weapons in the World, to retrieve him. He sustained injuries, but he will be just fine. This miraculous Search and Rescue Operation comes in addition to a successful rescue of another brave Pilot, yesterday, which we did not confirm, because we did not want to jeopardize our second rescue operation. This is the first time in military memory that two U.S. Pilots have been rescued, separately, deep in Enemy Territory. WE WILL NEVER LEAVE AN AMERICAN WARFIGHTER BEHIND! The fact that we were able to pull off both of these operations, without a SINGLE American killed, or even wounded, just proves once again, that we have achieved overwhelming Air Dominance and Superiority over the Iranian skies. This is a moment that ALL Americans, Republican, Democrat, and everyone else, should be proud of and united around. We truly have the best, most professional, and lethal Military in the History of the World. GOD BLESS AMERICA, GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS, AND HAPPY EASTER TO ALL!

The picture is getting clearer — and it’s extraordinary. The downed F-15E has been identified as belonging to the S494th Fighter Squadron, 48th Fighter Wing, out of RAF Lakenheath in England (Air & Space Forces Magazine). These are America’s forward-deployed Strike Eagles in Europe — now confirmed in the fight over Iran. Here’s what happened to the weapons systems officer after he ejected. According to an officer involved in monitoring the CSAR operation, the WSO evaded up a 7000-foot ridge with Iranian forces chasing him all day (DropSite News). Alone. Behind enemy lines. In the mountains of southwestern Iran. With a regime that put a $60,000 bounty on his head and sent state TV calling on civilians to hunt him down. And he kept moving. Defense analyst Babak Taghvaee reported major clashes between U.S. Army Special Forces and IRGC Ground Forces in the Milas mount area of the Rig Mountains in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province — right where the CSAR teams were operating. This wasn’t a quiet extraction. This was a fight. The Iranian side tells the story from the other end. Reports from locals speaking to Iranian media say the IRGC is transferring dead and wounded troops from “Black Mountain” to Dehdasht Hospital (HotAir). Plainclothes Basij forces sent to find the American were killed — Iranian officials confirmed at least 4 dead during recovery operations in the region. The IRGC has now warned its own civilians to stay away from the area. Let that sink in. Iran sent its Revolutionary Guard and Basij militia to capture one American — and they got wrecked. As of this update, journalist Jack Murphy — a former Green Beret with deep special operations sources — reports the WSO has been recovered alive after a massive firefight at the recovery site (DropSite News). Multiple Special Forces community sources say he is safe and back in American hands. The Pentagon has not officially confirmed the second rescue. But here’s what IS confirmed: the United States military sent its most elite operators into hostile Iranian mountains, fought through IRGC ground forces, and brought their people home.
