Final Highs? It’s AWG Friday

Welcome to the speed-reading edition of The Daily War-Monger.

In the opening article, we wonder whether “Pistol Pete” – is ready to turn his HR weapons on Spain as Pentagon email weighs measures against NATO allies over Iran war, including suspending Spain.  Why, I can hear it now, “Spain! You’re FIRED!”  Bet me?

Always ready to take credit plays again as Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire extended by three weeks, Trump says.

And if you’re a long-range sniper looking for a little quick cash? Iraq: US escalates its campaign against Iranian-backed militias.

A bit more measured concern comes from the writers down at the Miami Herald who penned Nuclear Dust-What Is It and Can Trump Actually Get It Out Of Iran?

But hey! Let’s not spoil the show.  Markets haven’t collapsed yet…

Sketchy Markets

In the Peoplenomics ChartPack series a rollover (with a double-top) looks like a reasonable call. And our friend, The Economic Fractalist is pointing at today as a possible top. His short course on elegant, interpolated fractal self-assembly math (here) is just the thing to wash down the cornflakes. Coffee helps with big math.

If you don’t have time for the coffee OR math?

Futures are up and America – like yesterday – and the one before that? Still has more money than brains.

On paper, anyway…

Citizenship Lessons

While President Poster mulls denaturalizing certain new citizens, here are more lessons to take to heart.

  1. Your government doesn’t trust you: After 2 failed votes, Mike Johnson unveils new plan to extend key U.S. spy powers.
  2. And did you see where US soldier charged after winning $400,000 betting on removal of Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro.
  3. And at the state level of things, the left has its panties in a knot over DeSantis plots end run of Florida law to create more GOP House seats.

Fortunately (or otherwise) law-faring is mostly an American-Made product. We may not be able to make most consumer appliances, but by-God we can sue over it – you betcha!

SNF Reality Checks

Slow News Fridays

Around the Ranch: AWG Friday

Honestly, I’m beat-tired. Could sleep again – there’s simply too much going on in the lab here.

So I got up, a little after 2 AM, and started the dishwasher (my chore from last night that I forgot). Then I was back to bed.

A few minutes later, everything went dark. I mean – miles from city lights, can’t even see the outline of your hand in front of your face dark. We had the power go off at about 2:30 this morning.

Universe was saying “Get your butt out of bed and back to work.”

Where the AWG Fits In

Let’s go out to the garden room, shall we?

Tomatoes under LED, root zone under signal. The little box on the edge? That’s where the story starts tomorrow…

The garden room at 5:15 AM.

The AWG? See the little white box with the screen on it sitting on the edge of the beds? That’s one of our (several) Arbitrary Waveform Generators. You can’t mess with time machine theories without one.

Like an OWON Waveform Generator, 60MHz Bandwidth,300MSa/s Sampling Rate, 14 bits Vertical Resolution, 8K Waveform Length, 5 Basic Waveforms, 160 built-in Arbitrary Waveforms, with 3.6IN LCD Display DGE1060. Which is only $118 on Amazon.

You know, the “price of doing real science” has come down a lot. Not if you’re cloning CERN, but for basic science? The kind that lives everywhere when people take the time to really ask and wait for answers.

You may not know this: Early arbitrary waveform generators trace back to the late 1960s–early 1970s, when labs began using computer-controlled DAC systems to synthesize non-sine waveforms; Hewlett-Packard and Tektronix had primitive programmable sources by the mid-’70s.

These weren’t the nifty benchtop gadgets—they were rack-mount, often minicomputer-driven instruments that could run tens of thousands of dollars at the time (think $20,000–$50,000+, which is well over $100K–$300K in today’s money).

When Dave Baldock and I were messing around with low-powered ruby CW lasers in the basement of the Univ. Washington EE building in 1966? They didn’t have one. (OK, you can do holograms without one…)

Modern AWGs, like the little bench unit in the photo, deliver vastly more capability—MHz bandwidth, arbitrary memory, digital control—for around a hundred bucks, which is a pretty damn good reminder of how radically instrumentation has collapsed in price while exploding in functional power.

About here, you may be wondering what’s going on here.

The answer will be on the Peoplenomics side tomorrow.

I’m going back to bed. Remind me to kill the AC power failure alarms on the backup power supplies. Damn things will make me crazy – but that’s not far.

Fed meeting next week — but with no rate cut and tough talk? Markets will have some reality to chew on. Pepto news all.

Write when you get rich,

“President Donald Trump signed an executive order on April 18, 2026, to accelerate research and fast-track FDA review of hallucinogenic drugs like ibogaine, psilocybin, MDMA, and LSD for mental health treatment. The order does not legalize these substances but eases federal restrictions, expedites clinical trials, and allocates $50 million in federal funding to match state-led psychedelic research, particularly for ibogaine. “

        • Valuable, but they need to be legalized for adults. Where does any government get the hubris to declare any food, drug, poison, or medication illegal? Of course, if a person commits crimes under the influence, they are responsible, just as they would be if sober. Restricting exploration of the unknown at your own risk is simply wrong. People have the right to make bad choices. That’s called agency.

  4. Couple thoughts fyi:
    1) Earth magnetic field can be enhanced by circular wire into ground and aligns water in the plant to help reactions in mitochondria.
    2) Frequency generator may be better.
    3) Quartz crystal does similar to above by scaler waves.

Constraint is how fast a reaction can be speed up to improve outcomes of more leaves and fruit? If not 20% more than can’t probably sow two crops in one season.

Ideology and Anger: Early Lessons from the Kimberly-Clark Distribution Center Arson

A catastrophic, intentionally set fire destroyed a multimillion-dollar distribution center in Ontario, California, on 7 April 2026. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. But so far, investigators suspect the arsonist was motivated by class-based grievances and anticorporate sentiments. They also allege that the perpetrator, an employee who worked at the distribution center, showed signs of ideological contagion—warning signs that security professionals worldwide should heed.

      • sooo cool.

after work, i went out aft and saw a bunch of white tip sharks around the ship. one really big one 8 to 10 feet.

thems the same sharks that got the fellas from the indianapolis. after they deliverd little boy to Hiroshima.

        they are called, “ultimate predator”

and after i get off this ship on may 21 (Fiji date) this ship is headed to Nagasaki Japan.

i decided because its my first hitch not to ride it to Nagasaki. i ate dinner at the Captains table tonight. they are interested in having me back aboard mid October for a 2 month hitch. be back before Christmas. they will be in perth austrailia then. heading over to New Zealand.

get this, The Captain said to me, if you meet us in Perth Mid October? I will take you to Mount Doom when we get to New Zealand. i didnt even know Mount Doom was in New Zealand. He said, I have hiked it before. its where they filmed the Lord of the Rings. they left alot of the Movie Props there. i said coooool. i will talk to my lady, but that sounds super fun.

        after dinner i thought

        White fin sharks,
        Little boy,
        Nagasaki
        Palentir?

        a hike to
        Mount Doom with the Captain.

i found 3 random stickers on board. i was changing a fan belt on an AC unit and when i got it fixed, a sticker blew out the vent. its an old cartoon from the 50s type sticker that reads,

“Remember little boy, electicity kills.” with a man zapping a little boy on it.

i found another one that says, “Alpha Male.” it was stuck to my boot after checking the sounding tubes.

so I asked THE DUDE? what are you trying to tell me here?

and now, i await my answer.

everything else is so fun and awesome. super good experiance.

the biggest danger on the ship so far is not falling on your ass when the ship rolls while standing in a tiny shower. haha.

i have to get to sleep. sunday tomorrow. sunday is chores day. sweep and swab all day. get all the trash compacted and stowed away.

        I Win with God within!

      • oh wait it was the indianapolis that delivered little boy to nagasaki.

i been working my ass off in the heat
i was in the bow thruster room for 4 hours today doing work. its 98 degrees in there and 100% humidity.

        .
you know what i meant. haha

        • Andy and George,

The story about the USS Indianapolis relates that the ship was a Portland-class heavy cruiser that was sunk on July 30, 1945 from two torpedoes fired by a Japanese submarine. The USS Indianapolis was on a secret mission to deliver atomic bomb components to Tinian island in July 1945 for the bomb destined for Nagasaki. After accomplishing its secret delivery, the unescorted ship went down in the Philippine Sea within 15 minutes after sustaining two torpedo hits. Out of 1195 men, only 316 survived being on the ocean surface before a rescue three days later. The survivors endured exposure, dehydration, exhaustion, hypothermia, and shark attacks.

When I was working mineral and land title ownership for oil companies back in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, I worked in the courthouse in Greeneville, Tennessee around 1982. I noticed a man preaching on the corner near the courthouse and asked about him. I was told that he had been one of the few survivors of the USS Indianapolis sinking. I wonder now if he was James Wesley Smith, who was interred in Mountain Home National Cemetery in Tennessee.

    • Besides the dandy control room photog I should have acknowledged that the Pistol Pete tail is like others told by men to other men in work camps, on the lines and deep in the shit that must be done. That-there is a true grit badge sonny boy – few of the kids today are of that L’Amour and older (RW Service) hardscrabble whirled – well done! Nice not to have to explain everything…

  8. its kinda a slower version of cowboy work. the crabs are the cowboys herding the snails. pretty cool stuff.

seen all kinds of cool stuff down there. no aliens….. yet!

  9. JUST IN: Iran just pulled a thirty-year-old empty supertanker out of retirement and began towing it toward Kharg Island. She is moving so slowly that a voyage that should take a day and a half is taking four days.

Her name is NASHA. IMO 9079107. Built 1996. A two-million-barrel very large crude carrier that has been anchored empty off Kharg for years. TankerTrackers confirmed her reactivation yesterday. Gulf News, Iran International, and Fox News all picked it up within hours.

The reason she is moving at all is that Iran is running out of places to put their oil.

Iran just pulled a corpse out of the Persian Gulf and asked it to buy two days.

That is not how a reversible crisis looks. That is how a regime tells you, operationally, that it has run out of options between the blockade and the shut-in. The reservoir does not negotiate.

    • False narratives and social media gang stalking were weaponized by the partisan gangs almost since the internet get-go. All of them do it. The Tea Party and the Progressives are masters of it, but the Progressives have taken it to a whole new level with NGO’s and control of hate groups from every extremist excuse. And unfortunately, the hate groups include damn near every club of any type. And yes, some of you are members of murderous hate groups unaware, because you have drunk the Kool-aid and mainlined the Hopium.

The deviousness of the retaliation and stalking for shire chemes on behalf of rich bastards and their vigilante proxies is extraordinary. And mixed in with that are real foreign and domestic intelligence services and organized crime running wild. Any attempt to get help gets you labeled and attacked as a paranoid or a conspiracy theorist by plutocrats and their hirelings.

I now know that HIPAA records have been weaponized for black-listing, retaliation and economic terrorism, and probably even capital murder by medical proxies. And the insurance Companies are up to their eyeballs in it.
I also am seeing evidence that employers have found ways to illegally access these records when doing recruiting, making individuals with falsified test results, or even exaggerated diagnosis by low level nursing staff, unemployable by corporate brown shirts running in-house eugenics programs. This gets worse as you get older. Each time you visit any medical geek for any reason, you are at risk of hate crime that you may not uncover for many years.

I am personally dealing with these issues. Wish me luck on attempts to defend myself with legal assistance.

R & n, Look at how Alt Right Racist Groyper Hate Groups have proliferated since the 2010’s:
‘Since then, Fuentes has built a large online audience of mostly young men. His X account, which Elon Musk reinstated in 2024, has 1.2 million followers, and his America First livestream show attracts about 1 million views an episode. In one March show, he summarized his worldview as “Jews are running society. Women need to shut the f— up. Blacks need to be imprisoned for the most part, and we would live in paradise.” In October, podcaster Tucker Carlson—an ally of Vice President JD Vance—hosted Fuentes for a sympathetic two-hour chat in which the self-declared fan of Hitler and Stalin blamed “organized Jewry” for undermining a unified America; nearly 7 million people watched the episode on YouTube and 18 million on X. The interview caused a schism on the Right’

        • c-You have now crossed over to become a paranoid conspiracy nut and an enemy of the social media state. No doubt you will be put under scrutiny by a Progressive SPLC task force of socialists. nazis and klansmen armed with double secret alphabet & NGO surveillance assets and funding. Yer HIPAA records will be modified accordingly.

      • Make that “stalking for hire schemes”. Not sure how an “s” swims upstream in a sentence. That’s a new one.

      • The Tea Party was the real deal — until it wasn’t.

If GWB had been a Democrat, he would have been ranked amongst the top 3-4 Presidents. Until January of 2007, Bush had a Republican House, yet his MO of dealing with the Democrats was to give them everything they asked for, and then some. I’m not sure Bush43 vetoed anything at all, until the start of the reign of Pelosi the First, and his handlers forced him to pretend he had a political backbone.

The Tea (Tax Enough, Already) Party came to be, late in 2005. It was formed to protest these GWBush spending policies. It was grass roots, had nearly as many Independents + Democrats as it did, Conservatives + Republicans, and as far as I could tell, was both honest and honorable.

If you listen to the TPP alum, they will, to a one, date the formation of the Tea Party to Santelli’s rant on the floor of the CBT in the Spring of 2009. This allows the politicians (of questionable honesty or unquestionable ignorance) to insinuate the TPP was formed as a response to the spending policies of Obama.

On a previous computer, I still have pictures from the Tea Party protest held in May of 2006 in Boston, and the Tea Party protest held in July of 2006, in Indianapolis.

Stuff like this will be lost, and “incontrovertible history” will be written to date the formation of the Tea Party to Santelli’s rant, then pumped into every cyclopedia and AI as fact, but that doesn’t make the “known history,” correct.

It is a small point, but one of many small points which, if gotten wrong, will be historical inaccuracies, forever — Probably of no consequence, but irritating to people with my particular sense of order.

This is why I have a full Collier’s Encyclopedia and full World Book Encyclopedia, both from the early 1960s. They haven’t been politicized. They haven’t been infected with political incorrectness, DEI, fake “genders,” or any other modern social bullshit. They give uncolored, accurate answers to questions asked of most stuff which existed or occurred before 1964. These make it so I have to sort through 62 years of garbage to find historical answers, because I can trust the answers that’re in these volumes.

It might be interesting to see what a 2007 or 2008 Encyclopaedia Britannica would say about the Tea Party…

Roughly 30,000 additional AI-linked job losses are estimated in early 2026, Moneywise reported. 6,000 yesterday alone from Meta. And for the first time in its history Microsoft is offering to buy-out their employees.

Musk’s X post on universal high income generated more than 68 million views and 195,000 likes, Moneywise noted.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei warned that AI could eliminate up to 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs within five years., projecting U.S. unemployment as high as 20% as a result.

Amodei also stated that right now Anthropic is capable of producing any software package that is required. And then warned that 75 to 80 % of all software development engineers / individuals and teams could be out of work within five years.

A London [ UK ] think tank said that they believe these numbers are below, way below what is currently happening and that the time space given is much longer than what will materialize. They stated that numbers are double what is being ‘reported’ and the time span will be less than two and a half years.

    • Sadly here in the US our Memorial Day events have fewer and fewer attendees. The purpose of the day, and the sacrifices made, are remembered and respected by fewer and fewer. Almost every year since I left the town I grew up in I have traveled back for their Memorial Day ceremony even when living far away so I have seen the changes personally over the many decades since I attended those ceremonies as a kid.

I hope the Australians are still more in tune with the meaning of Anzac Day than Americans are today with Memorial Day and their events this year were well attended.

      • Yes tragic as it is…I believe it just like Sunday’s and other federal holidays went from a day of remembrance or celebration and family to just another work day…
churches see huge decline in attendance…its all about the business model… the facility I worked at went by the point system..I was hired a point five which meant they only guaranteed you five working days per pay period..plus you had to be there your weekend..so..if you took vacation for a week..you still got your five days..at the end I was giving away my eighty hours to those that got sick..if you got sick it was the same as quitting..so I donated my vacation time..give it away or simply lose it..that’s pretty much how it was with every place I worked..

The US classified power transformers, switchgear, cables and substations as essential to national defense on April 20 under Section 303 of the Defense Production Act. The classification matters because the country imports 82% of its large power transformers, with lead times of 2 to 4 years, while 7 GW of generation projects are stalled awaiting grid connection.

Three transformer factories are under construction in Texas, Alabama and Georgia, and Section 303 now authorizes DOE to make direct purchases and financial commitments to expand domestic production.

    (Emphasis mine)

I’m excited to see this, because it will lift some of the danger of a HEMP and alleviate some of the stranglehold China would have over us in the event of an EMP/HEMP occurrence.

However, do patents for industrial equipment expire? IIRC, most of the patents for power transformers belonged to General Electric. Most of the remainder belonged to Westinghouse. When GE closed Schenectady, they sold (gave, transferred, whatever) their IP catalog to Westinghouse Muncie (ostensibly to keep this IP in United States hands.) Some years later, Westinghouse Transformer (Muncie) was sold to ASEA Brown Boveri (ABB), which (I assume) transferred ownership of all that transformer IP to the Swiss.

I remember reading many years ago that there were five American transformer companies which manufactured large and massive power transformers: GE, Westinghouse, Siemens, and two others I can’t remember, but I believe one was in Wisconsin and the other in Terre Haute, Indiana.

‘Point is, if we construct these transformer factories, can they then, legally, build large and massive power transformers if they’re not affiliated with ABB or Siemens…?

    • 20 years is the general length of a US Patent.

WRT Transformers though there is newer technology out there for making much more efficient transformers, both pole level and utility level sizes, and while I have done a bit of research in that arena I never bothered to check on when those first came on the scene and who had those new patents. World wide production of those more efficient transformers is very limited and has been since they first appeared.

For traditional transformers only one steel plant in the US can make the specialized steel for the transformer cores, and it’s production is very limited. (AK Steel in Middletown OH). I am not sure if they, or anybody in the US, can even cast the cores for the very large transformers since we haven’t built those in the US for at least 3 decades. I also don’t know if the cores have to be cast at the time the steel is made or if the steel can be remelted for casting, but I personally doubt they can do a remelt of that specialized steel since that would change the it’s chemistry and atom alignment.

      • Yeah…

I lose power every year because the “newer transformer technology” seems to have a working lifespan of about three years.

ABB produced transformers in Muncie for several years after they bought out Westinghouse, but both they, and Siemens relocated their manufacturing to China in the late 1990s / early 2000s. I know Muncie built a few of the massive power transformers, but I believe the bulk of them rolled out of Schenectady. Ranging from about 620,000 pounds to over a million (and big as a house), you can find pix on the Internet of the 48-wheel and 54-wheel underslung flatcars the MPTs were transported on, and I stumbled across one archive (likely from the 1930s or ’40s) where they showed a cabin-sized transformer in transit, complete with (police or military – can’t remember) escort. The accompanying article told of the logistical nightmare regarding routing because even a few inches off the roadbed on that underslung, the transformer was still too tall to fit under bridges.

There was a trove of information, including a GE engineer, describing the 37 MPTs in CONUS, how each one was custom – took a couple years to design and 10 months to build, once construction started.

        {sigh} I wish now, I’d bookmarked it then…

Following the French government’s ban on Windows and its replacement with Linux, French activists are now saying goodbye to Windows 10 and actively encouraging people to embrace freedom and use Linux instead of paying for an upgrade to Windows 11, citing privacy concerns.

Are you smarter than a 5th Grade cheese-eater…?

    • Windows 11 is an abomination. No way to shut off the FORCED downloads from Microsoft … and it’s continually calling home to give Microsoft an update on everything you are doing is imo virtually criminal.

Good for the French Government. That would be a good example for countries around the world and American corporations to follow.
