Advice from Captain Gooding

Two parts to this morning’s report.  First, the non-mathematical reason why economic depression is semi-inevitable.  Stay tuned. It follows-on from wild price appreciation coming to virtually everything this fall.

After the “theory class” we hear from a long-time source – who has taken on a new nom de plume (moniker) although at the same rank).  His previous had worn itself out.  We may have to issue a field promotion after his latest effort.

That said, there are – to the good Captain’s eyes – at least 14-ways we can each change our behaviors in really minimalist ways to help save the Tree of Liberty. Chainsaws are warmed up all around it – and even within.

All of which (*no worries here!) are totally legal, peaceable, and downright inexpensive.

A few war-picks from The Daily Warring Form for the period ahead and the ChartPack, of course.

  1. Yo Mr G. Jetson 2.0,

Think you were just in the wrong part of the “Suck”, to see anything worthy. Here on the mid-atlantic coast with the most, we were treated to a nice little light show. In fact sighting was so nice it got posted to the Spaceweather.com front page for several days this week…somewhere in Chester Cnty, PA, where the trees grow..just ask all the squirrels, there nuts for em. So are the deer…does the deer have any doe? sure 2 bucks. nyuckyuckyuck
Speaking of loose nuts, how come you are not all over Oil & Gas..no not the kind LooB’s famous Chili recipe causes, the kind Eurodopes going to be in desperate need of in next 3 months. Not that the proverbial fork has not already been stuck in Her, its just that that “beast” is so old and mean as to require multiple “forkings” to kill her.

Not only eurodopes, but how do these stone cold dopes and morons think the electric utilities generate power to charge their battery powered virtue signalers? What pray tell what are they going to Burn to generate enough heat as to drive big heavy turbines ? Leaves, peat, landfill off gasses, confiscated firearms, traditional families..oooops too late for that one, traditional marriages – same, Virtue – NONE, forget that, wouldnt know Virtue if slapped them in the kisser, I guess like soylent green we could always use ALL the sad people dying from Tranq od’s and Fent od’s..as there seems to be an unlimited and increasing supply of dead junkies lately.
Unless we be unvieling djed towers 2 the masses, I cant fathom how we are going to FUEL our future energy needs for EV charging..some ting very short sighted with that vision.

? What are they going to do with all old batteries anyway – I mean we are projecting gazzillions of them over time.
Maybe we can pile em all up with gorilla glue and construct a modern day great pyramid to rival the ancient one in Eygypt. Problem- solution – I know,Ure welcome.

    * Sunday Shade Tree Kitchen Demo Notes;
    – how to alt fuels…(mothballs & 151 proof rum) ruin Ure carb, but get you down the road apiece before they can try and snatch Ure scalp. How to home-made claymores – note internal steel balls “Not Edible”. Perhaps expand to cover Snares (large) and Traps (deadfalls, foot/leg). Lightbulb mini bombs – trickier filling new fangled bulbs with gas & liq. detergent and igniting..

?Why is Mexico so close to USA, cause Texas sucks, with Ure governor globolist plant.
A POX! – A POX on all of Them “monkys” – DC/Hollywierd, not my Circus, certainly not my monkys.

    • “? What are they going to do with all old batteries anyway”

Refurbishing what they can.. that is what makes nuclear so dangerous.. they can’t refurbish it.. or reuse it.. and it takes thousands of years to decompose.. ( I know.. they told the indians that they should let them bury it on the res.. that it was safe and even healthy for them to have it there) oh hey that is what they told them on the Bikini Islands to HUH..

      • Our nuclear power nightmare is that the gov’t wanted all that Plutonium by-product from the big uranium reactors. There is safe(r) Thorium-based designs available that will not melt down, but the plant sizes are much smaller and suitable for smaller communities. No one has built one yet. But the designs exist. Thorium is more plentiful than uranium, and the waste products are much less nasty, with shorter half-lives. That SHOULD be the future of nuclear power.

      • “There is safe(r) Thorium-based designs available that will not melt down, but the plant sizes are much smaller and suitable for smaller communities.”

That is interesting.. I hadn’t heard of those.. I am against nuclear just because we don’t know enough yet.. and there isn’t anyway to dispose of the bi products safely.. I do like the idea of smaller.. you still need the large plants but smaller dispersed plants is a really good stablilizer.. my solar tower idea.. would be the best.. little maintenance.. and by distribution safer for the grid and not as huge of infrastructure changes..
If I ever win the lottery.. I would build one just because I totally believe in it and before a bunch of morons can visualize it.. they have to see proof of concept… by placing the inverted trapazoid you stabilize the light distribution.. and I think it would really be an iconic symbol some kids from MIT after we visited and had chicken ( they came by and put up some solar panels for me for extra credit one year) made some smaller ones in class…. similar to the Alexandria light house.. and you don’t have to go up to high either..
I had thought of smaller wind units as roof vents.. the hot air from the roof would aid in the turning of the turbine.. each one would have a small generator.. not much bot would assist.. probably wouldn’t produce much but every little bit helps ..

      • there are some smaller communities around the wastelands that at one time during the depression .. before they really expanded the power distribution system.. had smaller generation plants for communities.. one I liked used coal and garbage.. as the power source.. when I was little I use to run around it just to look at it.. they tore it down because it became the motel for the homeless.. they would live in the back coal rooms..

    • I’m paying $0.498/kWh now and it’s going up… and it’s ‘oil fired’. It will soon become uneconomical to charge an EV. Even ‘expensive’ gas in an ICE will become cheaper to run.

    • If you ever watched “The 100” the final global meltdown of all the unattended to nuke plants was the final end to the planet. While I don’t lend a lot of credence to that level of destruction if the nuke plants become abandoned how many Chernobyls and Fukushimas does it take for most of the food producing regions of the World to become uninhabitable and, thus, non-productive? I often wonder if this was some part of the “MAD” defense program to eventually render the U.S. unusable in the event of a war we can’t win.

  2. For quite some long time now, I’ve planned for a Great Modern Depression Garage-Based Walk-In Fix-It Shoppee — for hire to the local public. “Best effort” basis –I don’t claim to be an expert in anything, really. Just a guy with a modest workspace, some mostly hand tools, and “The Knack.” Lamps, electronics, toasters, simple machinery — anything. I won’t do cars, or anything that requires a license, a union card, or apprenticeship.

    Dilbert – “The Knack”
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5tl6waogGw
As long as I still have that, I’ll be fine.

Customer drops it off — no vehicle expenses — and picks it up. No guarantees of ability — just a “best effort” basis. Recognize that parts for a lot of things may be unobtanium. Cash (or barter) only, No credit cards or checks. (Don’t like that? politely I’ll say, “Sorry. Go somewhere else.”)

Recently, I went blind in my right eye due to a highly unusual occlusion of the blood vein draining the eye’s circulation. The retina largely died. They tell me nothing can be done that hasn’t been, and there is no reasonable hope for any recovery. (We’ll see about that. Maybe.)

I’ve had to give up driving, which is quite psychologically frustrating, and my depth perception is greatly affected. Even so, when Times Get Hard, I should be able to do this limited objective benchtop work easily enough, if not very quickly.

When SHTF Big-Time, many popular and needed things will NOT be available in stores to simply buy new ones. Repairing old things will be the ONLY way to keep life as comfy and normal as possible. People will be strongly motivated to fix many things, where before, they would have just bought a new one.

…and don’t think for five seconds that Amazon, the USPS, FedEx and UPS WON’T be greatly affected.

If you doubt that, go look up “Diesel Exhaust Fluid,” and recall how the GovDome Clown Show almost never relents on stupid decisions, but 99% of the time just digs its heels in, rather than admit ever having made an error or a mis-estimate. “Screw the moron public — We’re never wrong!)

  3. “Long term, we’re also pretty-much hosed without a miracle event in D.C.” Quote from today’s subscriber side. Would Stu’s thoughts over at the Age of Desolation with Biden possibly going away in August constituent a miracle event in D.C.? Big rally then go into the abyss in the fall! Then on the other hand we get heels up Harris and the year round trick or treater and lush Pelosi! Roll them bones!

    • The other day Biden had the meeting with the Saudis and they decided more oil will be on the market soon. Stored grains from the Ukraine will be on the market soon. Next Q we’ll be told the “COVID 19 anomalies” are now behind us…. Rally-Ho!

In the beginning of Q4 we’ll know “Rally Ho!” was incorrect. But we still have this Q to get through that is ‘over correcting’ because of the previous ‘over jubilance’ from the economic reopen.

  4. “11. Be neat, clean, and tidy. It attracts MUCH less attention.” Another quote today from the subscribers side. I think that one might depend on where you live. I’m a stones throw away from the top of the continental divide here in Colorado. Most of my neighbors are ranchers and descendants from pioneers that settled here in the 1870’s. Neat, clean and tidy here works for church, weddings, funerals, and a few other events tossed in for good measure. Not so much the other 6 days of the week. Jeans, western work shirt, boots, gloves, ball cap, or scruffy western hat. Spurs are optional! When, not if things do go tits up and you roam through here neat, clean, and tidy and your not a local. That might not work out so well for you! Just saying!

    • Out here in the jungles are the poor, welfare types, old grey hippies, and retirees. Board shorts and slippers with optional old T-shirts sometimes. Only time I shave is when I must go into town and shop or interact with other ‘city’ people. Good shorts and better T-shirt… still in slippers, though. That is the cultural norm here. Shoes get you spotted as a ‘tourist’. It is all about the local cultural norms.

  5. DAM GEORGE….I believe that your in for a treat.. just put the first emperors special wine in the last carboy…. and took a sample.. ( right now it is at ten percent) dam I know why it was his favorite LOL LOL it is really tasty.. dam tasty.. better than what I was expecting..
Absolutely the most expensive wine I have made to date.. the average bottle of wine.. not counting the bottle and label is around a quarter a bottle.. with bottle and label price is about eighty cents.. ( cheaper if you get lower cost bottles..) this wine.. cost is about nine bucks a bottle ingredients only…. so I can only imagine how expensive it would be in a liquor store.. OH WAIT.. you can’t get this wine at any price LOL LOL.. dam good though more on a merlot type…. something to save for special occasions.. OH WAIT.. I can make more so I can drink as much as I want LOL LOL LOL LOL ….
I didn’t have charred bamboo.. but I used charred oak to age it with.. dam good. I will get me some bamboo chunks for the next batch.. tried to find a bamboo aging barrel but couldn’t…It should be ready to bottle in a week.. I will bottle it up.. if you are allergic to lilies.. don’t drink it.. it is a flower wine.. made mostly from flowers.. and forbidden black rice, cherries and pine berries.. …etc..

      • LOL LOL LOL LOL… well it is official.. my official wine tester stopped by to leave me some bottles.. ( they bring empties and I give full ones LOL) anyway.. I said wanna try it.. so I got out the wine thief and took a quick sample. she took a sip.. her eyes got really big .. and she said OH MY WOW.. that is the best one I made already.. the juniper berries have to sit for a few days before I can bottle.. make sure that the yeast is dead.. but dam it is good..

2 lbs of forbidden rice.. ( cook until done.. in three gallons of water.. then mash it.. strain the water off of it.. discard .. ( or you can put the rice in the dog or cat food.. ) add one gallon of red grape juice..
        1/2 cup of cherries
        1/2 cup of juniper berries
        1 cup of raisins
1 lb of blue lotus tea
        4 ounces of chai tea
        2 cardamon pods
        1 inch of cinnamon
(you can put all the spices in a spice bag.. boil them.. like a tea add that water and the spice bag to the mix..
add water to six gallons.. take a reading.. the specific gravity shoulld be 1.090
let sit .. then add your yeast cake.. or wine yeast.. below is probably one of the best ways to make the traditional yeast balls of china.. easy.. you can use these in bread making to..
        Root Ginger 200g thinly sliced
        Lengkuas(Galanggal) 200g thinly sliced
        2 Garlic clove
1 Tbsp finely crushed white pepper
        1 Tsp cinnamon powder
        Glutinous rice flour 400g
Rice flour 400g Ginger around 3cm length big sized Water (boiled or distill) enough to make paste or slurry

Blend the ginger. Mix with rice flour and water to make a paste. Store somewhere warm and dark and cover with clothes or loose jar (aspergillus need oxygen). Check every day to ensure it is not contaminated. By day three, you will start seeing white fuzz on the surface and it will start to smell fruity, sweet smell, like rice wine or sake smell. This means that you have succeeded growing aspergillus. Beware or anything that is sign of contamination such as sour or funky smell, or red or black mold. If it show any sign of contamination discard entirely and start over. The slurry might take a yellow hue from white but this is totally fine. Next, stir to combine. Put in on a piece of cloths and press the excess water, enough that it can be kneaded like dough. Take a small pieces and roll it into 3cm diameter disk. Dry it under full sun. It might take a day or two to fully dry under full sun. Fully dried, the yeast ball can store up to 3months in airtight container and up to 1 year in refrigerator.

The more antibacterial ingredients you add, the longer it takes to develop the sweet smell. And the final results will differ with different ingredient you use. For example, more ginger and galangal will yield bitter taste, so some people substitute with cinnamon or white pepper. Here some example of a more complicated recipe:-

Rice flour 1kg Ginger 200g Galangal 100g White pepper powder 10g Cinnamon powder 10g Water

Blend the ginger and galangal. Mix with dry ingredients. Knead until it form a dough, add water if necessary. Take small piece and roll into a ball, flatten to a disk. Lay on baking pan and store in dark, humid and warm place to incubate for 3-7 days. After 3-7 days it will develop fuzzy white allover and smell sweet. After that dry in the sun.

There are shortcut to ensure that you will get good yeast ball. Add one yeast ball that you can buy from store, for every kg of rice flour. This will ensure fast incubating period and precise microorganism that you need for a good yeast ball. This method is more like getting more yeast ball rather than getting wild strain of microorganism or doing it yourself from scratch.

I hope this method will help people who have difficulties to obtain yeast ball,

    • Yo Loob –

batertime my good man – with urban survivals “batertown”..hows about you trade me 1 bottle of emperors wine for an 1/8 of Thai 99 Sativa.@ 23% THC?
…it will get where U are going….Kowabunga, Dude!
No worries local laws / regs regarding marijuana – its medicinal = Good2Go !

  6. “We hear talk – around the edges of Empire for now – in articles like Insufficient EV Recharging Infrastructure”

before we bought our hybrid.. we had gone to a favorite restaurant and out side there was a charging station.. in the parking lot.. so considering that.. I noticed at the grocery stores and motels etc.. they to had chargers setup.. we bought our hybrid.. the chargers were for the tesla.. he was smart .. and he distributed to anyone willing to place his chargers.. the big issue.. no one added a fast charge for the EV2 they are vacant.. and no one has a converter from the tesla fast charger to ev2 yet.. until there are adequate charge stations .. electric won’t go anywhere.. I get fifty miles out of a charge.. and with the prius prime you can set it to recharge the battery.. while you drive.. extending the electric mileage..
the other thing.. the toyota company could put a fast charger port on the ev2 style.. so that anyone utilizing a tesla fast charging station can recharge their battery while they shop..

  7. “reference to “The Meteor Shower that Wasn’t” in papers today.”

The last time we went through this shower.. I was sitting outside at night with one of the leading scientists that planned the space missions to the moon.. drinking coffee and visiting about a variety of issues..
    good times those were..

    • “Vertical gardening, Jackson WY growing tomatoes in the winter…”

An old RANT of mine.. cities should be greenscaping.. it is the only way to adjust for the urban expansion.. since it takes fourteen trees to process the CO2 of one car.. and seven per person.. we should be putting in not only green scaping but co2 filtration systems to.. like one on every lamp post.. but then who am I .. they won’t do it.. heck some child might eat a few grapes of have a carrot while they are out playing…. LOL.. I worked for one facility.. the landscaper had decided to help the kitchen staff he would put edible plants as the landscape.. broccoli etc.. and just about every fruit tree you could imagine.. I would go out and pick a few for breaks.. pears peaches.. cherries etc.. fabulous idea.. you know the kitchen never did pick one apple for a pie.. they would buy them and let the food rot .. LOL …

  8. “Insufficient EV Recharging Infrastructure in Puerto Rico.

Tesla and others lobby for federal funding of charging infrastructure for electric trucks.”

The writeups whine about the number of outlets to plug your car into.

    Doesn’t matter.

The infrastructure which isn’t, is “the juice in the plumbing.” EVs are a wonderful thing now, while nobody owns one. Halcyon days will be Spring and Fall equinox plus and minus a couple weeks — IOW the zero or near zero heating and cooling days, when grid load is at its lowest…

…Until about 3.5 million people are driving them, or some damnfool shuts down some gas, coal, or nuclear electric generator facilities.

At this point, only the privileged few will drive during the Summer and Winter, because the grid will be insufficient to supply ANY electricity to ANY vehicle, for ANY reason. If you haven’t dropped that $18k for a (fullsize) Powerwall and $40k-$140k for a solar system to charge it, when people start heating or cooling their living spaces, you’re not going anywhere your feet can’t take you.

  9. Avoid triggering algorithms that might flag you unfavorably.

    Always have, always will.
    ______

Leave the car in the driveway, if possible. (#2 tracking device)

Or acquire a Jeepster, like I did a few years ago. A “B-body” GM station wagon may be best, because the things look generic from the early ’60s to the late ’80s.
    ______

Make it a habit to carry cash.
withdraw a decent amount of cash at the start of the month
    (It’s what we’ve always done – check your records…”)
Even if you pay a bill with a credit card, tip in cash.

    Always have, always will.
    ______

    Be neat, clean, and tidy.
    It attracts MUCH less attention.

I’d say: Dress (and drive) to match your surroundings.
The Bentley in the Ghetto just screams “DRUG DEALER!” The 4-door Focus, Malibu, or Charger says “Fuzz.” Both get you really noticed, and watched like a hawk, in any neighborhood, in every town. Unless you’re on Wall St. or a stuffy business meeting, the only times a suit (or blazer or sport coat), dress (or dressy) shirt, and shined shoes won’t give you terminal sore thumb syndrome are weddings and funerals. Beat-up (but not ragged) jeans or denim shorts & tennies, and an earthtone T-shirt (no advertising) will get you nearly everywhere, unnoticed — even many churches. One thing about the photography gig: You learn how to blend into (and become) the background. One thing about being nondescript: You learn not to wear anything which pulls the eye, or which anyone could remember.
    ______

buy local if at all possible.

Would that it be so easy… I ALWAYS patronize local, then regional, then national B&Ms. Then I often purchase from Amazon, because that store which should have a widget, advertises that they have widgets, and upon phoning them, assures me they have 116 widgets on the shelf, often does not have widgets, when I arrive to buy one… And then often tries to pull a bait & switch on me.

  10. I was listening to Art Bell again over the weekend, Somewhere in Time.

Chupacabras started coming in from Puerto Rico a few weeks ago. He and the audience talked about chupacabras now being in Florida, Texas and Mexico.

One of the callers claimed a chupacabra chewed-up three horses – to death. Art asked if there was any eyewitness sightings and nobody has lied.

    They got a tune going.

  11. Last year @ The Deere:

“The new six-year contract includes an immediate 10% raise for all workers, an $8,500 signing bonus and this will be followed by additional 5% pay raises in 2023 and 2025.”

    Six months later:

“John Deere has confirmed it will move part of its Tractor and Cab Assembly Operations facility in Waterloo, Iowa, to Mexico by the 2024 fiscal year.”

And in six more months American Farmers will need bailouts.
