A News “Devaluation” Lesson, Santa’s List

Other than a Biden motorcade incident, drone lobbing, and NATO getting ready for war with Russia (over Ukraine’s aggression/taking of Russian-speaking lands), it’s just another Monday. With a week to shop for Christmas which is a three-day weekend ahead and New Years the week after.

Devaluing News

I wanted to begin with a simple lesson that jumped out of yet-another-Trump bashing story. Because it’s a dandy example of how value judgments have been placed in most of what passes for news, lately.

The specific headline I refer to is “Trump reprises dehumanizing language on undocumented immigrants, warns of ‘invasion’.”  The two (obvious) value-judgements are the word “dehumanizing” while the second is less obvious “undocumented immigrants.”  Last, we have the quote mark offset of “invasion.”

To us, these are highly indicative of judging.  First because “dehumanizing” is a judgment.  But. our point is it’s an adjective.  Real reporters shun adjectives because they are the front door, through which bias storms the unwary mind.

Next, we come to “undocumented immigrant” – which is a left-wing tip-off phrase. Our desktop A.I. is very clear on how the lefties and socialists have taken the higher (word/linguistic) ground on this: “Undocumented immigrants are also known as illegal aliens.”

The problem is (again) word-choice and those damn adjectives.  It’s liberal journo word choice, and it’s all part of ther woke/take down America agenda.  Undocumented is an abdication by mush-headed reporters who are afraid (of social median bullying) to call-out patently illegal actions.

Since the “undocumented” adjective isn’t “judgy” these cowards in fact rely on definitions like “not recorded in or proved by documents.”

The factual adjective choice is the word “illegal.” Yes, it too is an adjective. Meaning “not recorded in or proved by documents.” BUT, it’s readily provable as a point of law.  Undocumented is illegal. Puddinhead reporters blow in the socialist winds like stands of noodles. (Once they fall for something a certain way, they’re going to fall over and stay laying that direction…)

Last word?  “Invasion.” A noun, a “thing” from the verb/action word “invade.”

And if the commies and agency handlers want to pretend an INVASION isn’t happening, they are liars and traitors. “The 2.5 million encounters of migrants occurring at the U.S.-Mexico border in fiscal year (FY) 2023 represent a new historic high, topping the prior year’s record, as has been widely noted since the recent release of year-end government statistics.”

A point of fact, if I may:  As of September 2023 intelligence estimates placed the number of Russian militaries in Ukraine at about 800,000.  We’re pretty sure that is an invasion.  Yet illegals in America are three-times that and we’re told it’s NOT???  Help a brother along…

I don’t mind that the Washington Post (reposted by MSN) wants to bash Donald Trump.  Have fun.  And yes, they are pulling for Nikki instead (CBS News poll: Haley gains on Trump in New Hampshire while he continues to dominate in Iowa.)  But it would be refreshing if they could lose the anti-Americanism, woke apologisms, and bash Trump solely on his mercurial personality and goatlike personal life.  To confuse sound policies (which he had more than Biden (and his gas stove police), let’s face it!) is a disservice to the country.

This pile-on Orange Man hate likely also has something to do with why the Washington Post has layoffs ahead Washington Post will offer buyouts to cut staff by 240. The American public isn’t as stupid as reporters and editors think.  I know, having been in both camps long enough.

Wars to Save the Economy

Another (not especially Christmasy) topic is the headlong rush to kick off World War. Of course, aware people know WW3 began with Ukraine and Gaza (for the gas reserves offshore) was the second front.  The only unanswerable is where will the Third Front be in 2024?

The reason?  We have told you here for 25-years now that Wars offer many useful economic functions.

  • They kill people in droves.  Creating turnover in housing and assets.
  • They press technology. More opportunity to move ahead agendas like STEM.
  • They destroy infrastructure. More housing will be needed after the wars end, ensuring (taxable) income for surviving conscripts.
  • They provide an economic boost, which is why presently the odds of a recession in 2024 are slowing.

Bet #1: Expansion of ware to NATO.  Today’s big clouds-gathering indicator is War Council in Germany: State of Emergency and Europe’s preparation for war with Russia – Statements by Scholz and Pistorius.  When Germany starts talking short-term rearming and looming war with Russia, it’s time to keep your prepping up to speed.

Bet #2:  Egypt Elections are over, into Gaza next? Hard telling, but this is the day election results come in. Results Due in Egypt Election With Sisi Expected to Sweep to Third Term (usnews.com). The U.S. is desperate to make it look like there’s restraint on the Israeli take-back of Gaza And, oh, the simultaneous end of the two-state solution. CIA Director in Talks With Israelis to Restart Hamas Hostage Deal. But the odds of peace are near-enough zero until after New Years.

Bet #3  War with Iran’s Proxies: First skirmishes this weekend as the U.S. is looking for an excuse to bomb Yemen. Quietly, the U.S. is trial-ballooning the idea of a joint forces attack on Yemeni sources of drone attacks on Red Sea shipping.  Which is going over like a lead balloon: Ansarullah: If Saudi or UAE part of US coalition to bomb Yemen, we will destroy their Oil & Gas fields.

Bet #4 A New Energy War: We have two suspects.  On the one hand, there are violent Muslim groups in Africa where there’s oil to be found. The story Eight people dead in Guinea oil terminal blast, says police caught our eye. But, so too did the recent vote by Venezuela to invade and take oil-rich lands of Guyana. Last week, the two sides agreed not to resort to violence to resolve this. But now this morning we see the Brits getting involved and they have a way of cocking up things wherever they go. UK minister to visit Guyana amid Venezuela dispute. Let’s see how they screw this up. their solutions in the Middle East are still fueling problems.

Bet #4 Asia (Taiwan, Koreas, Others):  While Taiwan likely won’t be seized until after elections next month, the war drums are banging further north: North Korea Nuclear Attack Fears Rise After Missile Launch. Offspring of “duck and cover” anyone?

Dow futures are up 76 at  click time and the S&P is up another 10 p0ints, or so.  No sign of any “lumps of coal” ahead of Christmas, but we’ll keep close tabs on the eastern Med and Red Sea.

Well, not exactly.  We will have an exciting day tomorrow, taking a prime rib roast out of the freezer, for example.

When you get into the 75-80 range, eating too much, or drinking too much, comes off the table (sao to speak).  Replaced by a relaxing movie.  (By the way, Morgan Freeman and Scarlet Johanson in Lucy was good, if you haven’t seen it.)

Electronics Bench: split decision Sunday.  A quick overhaul of a Hallicrafters HT-46 transmitter (for use as a low-power CW rig) was quick work. A bad 6BA6 vacuum tube and a tweak to re-center the IF strip on the 9 MHz filter passband was all that was needed.

More obstinate was the #2 Icom 761. With new power supply and RF boards, it’s back to working on receive only. Reduced sensitivity on receive (-112 dBm, not -137 dBm) and no RF output keeps circling me back to the LPA and related switching, but that’s going back to the doctor’s waiting room for now.  Need to get the whole new ham radio lash-up in place by Christmas.  (Yes, I reset the microprocessor…and yes, the jumper between receive in-out is in place.)

Today’s Agenda: Banged out another 5,300 words for our Personal Ark book for Peoplenomics this weekend.  Which leaves today for getting the new rack of hydroponic starter units set up in the studio today.

Weather for Christmas:  Looks like rain and 66 with a low of 44 to follow the roast.  Good news is fresh tomatoes for the occasion since our greenhouse is still toasty on the auxiliary diesel heat when it gets too cold.  Think we’ve only had two overnights with freezing temps this fall, so far.

Local rainfall is about 38 inches for the year, a good bit below normal.  We have had years with 75 inches of rain, but last year was only 45-inches or so.  Which is why you never want to play poker with a farmer.  Because farming’s a gamble every year.

We’re betting on 55-inches of rain in 2024, but fresh ENSO data is unclear.

We’re thinking a dry Spring again, but then wetting-up next fall. This is based on the real news about weather – which was the Dec. 14 update from NOAA:

Sea surface temperatures (SST) were above average across the equatorial Pacific Ocean [Fig. 1], increasing in the central and east-central Pacific during November. The growth in SST anomalies, however, abated in early December, with the latest weekly Niño index values at +1.4°C in Niño-4, +1.9°C in Niño-3.4, +2.0°C in Niño-3, and +1.3°C in Niño-1+2 [Fig. 2]. Area-averaged positive subsurface temperature anomalies increased significantly during November [Fig. 3], reflecting the strengthening of above-average subsurface temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific associated with a downwelling oceanic Kelvin wave [Fig. 4]. Low-level wind anomalies were westerly in the central and eastern Pacific, while upper-level wind anomalies were easterly across the Pacific. Convection/rainfall remained enhanced at the Date Line and was suppressed around Indonesia [Fig. 5]. The equatorial Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) and the station-based SOI were negative. Collectively, the coupled ocean-atmosphere system reflected a strong El Niño.

The most recent IRI plume favors El Niño to continue through the Northern Hemisphere winter 2023-24 [Fig. 6]. Based on the latest forecasts, there is now a 54% chance of a “historically strong” El Niño during the November-January season (? 2.0°C in Niño-3.4). An event of this strength would potentially be in the top 5 of El Niño events since 1950. While stronger El Niño events increase the likelihood of El Niño-related climate anomalies, it does not imply expected impacts will emerge in all locations or be of strong intensity (see CPC seasonal outlooks for probabilities of temperature and precipitation). In summary, El Niño is expected to continue through the Northern Hemisphere winter, with a transition to ENSO-neutral favored during April-June 2024 (60% chance; [Fig. 7]).

Of course, when the rains and weather get back to normal/neutral in mid 2024, it will come at a time of increasing sociopolitical stress, so you might be too distracted to notice.

But calmer minds are looking ahead.  And assuming we don’t all need SPF 100 this spring, or July as Andy’s outlook has it, Life on the rock should continue for another year to come. We plan more “glowing reports” in advance.

        The actual reason for erasing the history of a nation is: One of the steps that’s absolutely essential before a shift to socialist communism can be successfully engineered, is to replace actual history with a fantasy construct. This is both why the “1619 Project” exists, and why some of the more-radical teachers are now teaching it as “our true history.”

        It is also why statuary, placards, named roads and buildings, and other physical objects which could be used as historical markers are being, removed and hidden or destroyed. It is why statues of people like Frederick Douglass and Rosa Parks have been destroyed by Blacks and college children, right next to those of Lincoln and Grant.

        • I still hate the fact that they got rid of Aunt Jemima…. as a degradation to a race .. she was one wonderful woman that made a difference.. and should be respected and admired and emulated.. Instead they made her legacy go away.. I think of the dark ages and the supression of information then .. they wanted to suppress any new ideas. texts were destroyed and trade faultered.. individuals churches and other places kept a great deal of the information and hid them.. we have hidden libraries all around the world that still haven’t been found..

You have to understand, it is not about race, creed, color, or religion — it is about erasing everything from which people growing up in this country could make an historical connection to our true past. Wiping the slate clean, so a new “history” can be created and fed to us. Without markers, we’ll have no reason not to believe it is our actual past. A bunch of the crap will be just that — crap.

          Do you know why the Cleveland baseball team was the “Cleveland Indians?” It is because when they formed (in 1914), as a professional baseball team, the star player of their previous iteration (the Cleveland Spiders) was Louis Sockalexis, a full-blooded Penobscot Indian. Sockalexis died in 1913. They named the team to honor this man who, at the time of his career (and for many years after), was the only American Indian in the Major Leagues, and a point of pride of both the team and the city. (Like I said, total crap. The “Indian Wars” were still fresh in people’s minds, so an Indian in a major sport was a Big Deal — Probably as big or bigger a deal than Jackie Robinson — and now totally forgotten, with no reason to ever remember. {Don’t worry, Jackie will, too, be forgotten, just as soon as his fame outlives its usefulness to those who rewrite history…} )

I do roast my own from time to time as a treat.. and the captains coffee coral gets my orders.. I love Ethiopian but using that I have to roast it my self to get it to the proper degree..
          I know there are some real debates.. and seriously is ten bucks a cup worth it.. ( with boiled and whipped milk )

        • Kona Coffee here is legend, but I dislike the strong ‘bitter wine’ aftertaste. The BEST Hawaiian coffee, IMO, is Kauai estate coffee. Smooth, mellow, and strong enough to restart your heart.

        • that is what is so special about the jamaican blue.. no bitter aftertaste.. for years I would order some and have it flown in from a roaster in Hawaii then I discovered the other…the big issue was I was not able to just buy it.. luckily there was a small roaster in our local city and for special events etc. I would order as much as I could afford..
          then we got the ethiopian grocery stores.. they sell green beans there.. and I started to buy my own beans.. I still do here but the boss thinks I am insane doing it so I usually just buy store bought.. pack my own cups and brew a cup at a time..

          Agreed. Jamaican Blue Mountain is probably about $14/lb in JAM$ (or about $2 US). It somehow goes from $2 to $32 when it hits Miami International. That’s one hell of a markup for transporting cooked beans, 540 miles from MoBay.

          I already had a Massimo account, so when you mentioned Kauai I simply salted a couple cases away, next to my Chock-Full-O’-Nuts and the Hills Bros’ Cappuccinos. Damn’ fine coffee, sold with no import duties from Jamaica or Java…

        • Ray- More than a decade ago, Molokai island began coffee farming and it could be had is small specialty shops in Waikiki. The military had a taste testing of all the locally produced coffees to see what the troops liked. Molokai coffee won out, and got the military contract to supply all the mess halls on Oahu. They consumed the entire output of the farms on Molokai, and one could no longer find it available anywhere locally. I tasted it once. Was very good. But I believe Kauai coffee is nearly identical. It’s about the rich volcanic soil on Kauai that it is grown in.

  3. It looks clear electric cities are coming. Florida is going to create an electric road. Detroit has a proof of concept electric road.

    If the weight of the major battery is removed from the vehicle and we drive around… in slot cars on electric roads a lot less power will be needed which makes electric cars more likely. Maybe keep a small battery in the car for pulling in and out of parking lots and driveways.

        How are they going to be powered?

        What happens when the road freezes and cracks?

        From where is the necessary quantity of metal to mill into wire, going to come?

        Once the metal is located, from where is the necessary quantity of wire going to come?

    Like I am getting tired (literally) of all 3:33 bullscheisse lately.
    At least once a week Universe pokes me outta bed at exactly 3:30-3:33. Last couple of months been getting the frigging TV set in family room turning onto half way to screen saver/pubinfo page at same time..a pain in ass, not too mention the irritation.
    Last nights irritation was caused by a wierd ass(uknown source) sound that woke me up at 3:30. Somehow managed to fall back asleep after draining the dragon. Was awoken several hours later by Wife squawking up storm about some alarm in basement! Son of a BITCH! Insta ON!

    Wet vacc’d the corner of Utility Closet, where hydrologic pressure pushed some water up into basement. Set up the heavyduty Dehumidifier, and then went outside in rain to see WTF was going on with downspouts and attached flexible drain pipes in that corner of House.

    Oversight on the BCN’s part, I missed cleaning/clearing out downspouts and drain pipes this Fall.&*^$@#$%^)*(#@!
    Winterized everything else ICE motors, spigots, garden – baby bok choy & rosemary still growing in raised beds..da hell?

    Yes the rosemary was/is delish mixed with fennel seed, sage, garlic and olive oil and shoved into little holes cut into all over Pork Butt roast.Roasted low and slow.. some Italian long hots, sauteed broccoli rabe and aged stinky Provolone melted(from hot juices) on top of roast pork sandwich, on a italian roll…YUUUUM!

    Once you have had real Italian Roast Pork sndwich you will never be the same… look at Rocky Balboa .

    Maybe write lil moar when WE get to new ATH in DOW/SPY. I never ever say “told you so”..I just SMILE.

  8. Was watching for a good inexpensive computer deal this Xmas season and until this weekend nothing like what George came up with last year ($100 for 14″ with Windows) had shown up.

    VOILA … over the weekend was in the local Micro Center store and they had a “Student Laptop Computer” unadvertised special for $80. Only 12″ (Windows 10) but it is a virtual clone of one I used for traveling over the last two years and broke about 3 weeks ago by dropping it.

    Only 2 pounds so super light weight and this one has a claimed battery life of 8+- hours (my now broken one was same size but slower chip was only 4 hours). I used my now broken one for traveling when I didn’t want to carry my full size bullet proof Dell, which is HEAVY. Used it more than any of my other laptops when traveling in fact because it was so convenient and light weight.

    One needs to add an SD card to it since it only has 64 gig of internal memory (and program it to do everything with the SD card versus it’s internal memory wich is easy to do), but that is like my now broken one. Since all of the stuff on the now broken one was on it’s SD card I am just going to pull that SD card out of the old one, put it in the new one, and everything I had saved on that computer will now be on the new $80 machine.

    Anyway if you are near a Micro Center store you may want to check it out. Not sure if they are selling them on line since as I mentioned it was an unadvertised in store special.

    (I really do like that small size and weight for when traveling, especially when going by plane, since my carry on work bag used to weigh a ton when I carried my Dell)

    • To add about the above computer:

      The one I bought is the ?”Windows 10 Pro Education x64″ model (different MS Win 10 software versions for this machine have been sold over time). Mine has built in LTE capability if you have a Cell Provider SIM card you want to put in (not all sold (being sold?) apparently have the LTE communication ability, mine does).

      Of note some people take out the cell SIM card reader and insert a SSD into the same slot. They say it is just swap out and swap in with the right SSD and speeds up the machine considerably (vs using a micro SD card for additional memory). Unsure as to the size of the SSD they are swapping in but one poster in the Q/A section gave a Micro Center SSD part number that he said worked well.

      People complimented the ruggedness of the machine in actual use (probably because geared for kids to use) and the actual operating time people were getting was 6 to 8 hours (5000+ mah battery) … will see how both items hold up as I travel and use mine.

      These computers are listed on the Micro Center website as being STORE ONLY items … and in store were marked as a limit of 1 per family. For a 2 pound actual Windows machine $80 is a great price imo. The small Samsung tablet at Costco I was considering to replace my broken machine cost more than that!!

      (I think it comes with a year of MS Office 365, but haven’t gotten that far into the setup yet so can’t say – I don’t use MS Office, I use Libre Office and Word Perfect so I won’t be activating that package even if it’s included)

    • $14 plus shipping at Shopgoodwill.com got me a slightly newer Dell Optiplex 7010 desktop to replace my aged Optiplex 780. I’ll pop a new bios battery & HDD in it and a fresh install of Linux Mint and Windows 10 and I’ll be good for a few years.

        • Bill- While I acknowledge the initial Covid response was deeply flawed at both state and national levels, and that treatments that worked were suppressed by Federal bureaucrats with what appear to be criminal conflicts of interest, and that hospital administrators profiteered, to say that frontline doctors wholesale knowingly and intentionally murdered their patients to make a buck is not reasonable, and sounds like paranoid delusion. Covid came in a succession of waves. Rev 1 was mild, arrived in 4th quarter of 2019, and went largely undetected or misidentified. Rev 2 arrived late in the 1st quarter of 2020, and was the stone cold killer genetically engineered bioweapon which caused the initial lockdown. Succeeding mutated versions have been more transmissible, but far less deadly. The right move for an individual was to do what you had to get through the Rev 2 Covid pandemic, which took about a year-and-half to burn itself out. Side affects of the vaccine turned out to be severe (as opposed to the normal social media paranoid BS), and infection by the current strain is survivable with the correct OTC treatments. Those that could isolate during the Rev 2 peak did so for good reason, those that couldn’t did what they had to do. Your recollection of the timeline and events are flawed.
