Skeptics of Change

Guilty as charged! I tend to overthink things especially when new technology is involved.  But it’s a useful frontpiece to our deeper work (investing, running a bulletproof life, etc.) to sit back for a minute and wonder what’s all this “Change” stuff about.

It’s especially hard for people who are older – because of something I call “time locking.”  Many decades back, I remember sitting in the bar with a world-class physicist (think Fred Alan Wolf) at Rosellini’s in Seattle having a scotch.  I’d later get to read the galley of Star Wave.)

Half way through it, we got onto the notion of human time-locking.  That is, time is a flow and people tend to “lock into a moment” and stop living “in flow.”

As you begin to fight the currents of Time, aging really sets in.

And this accounts for a great deal of why some people age gracefully while other people…well, let’s just say not so much.

Anyway, that rap first and then into the ChartPack.  This won’t take but a few minutes – the charts are of normal length and everyone is waiting to see what the Fed will do come Wednesday.

This morning’s column?  One I would recommend be taken in about 3 PM with a good single malt and a fireplace.  This is deep. But, it’s also the only stuff that matters.  Once you have enough money in hand, of course!

      • wait, wait … 4 am is nothin’ Tex. That’s lunch here-abouts.

Media : we were online when the internet was a rumor. My BD Divisional Office was run by a guy with lots of juice. The very first Co. made for TV commercial was available so … I got to buy local market TV time, first commercial.ever. Most of my data crunching was sailing (OBSCON) site related. I was in San Diego as my charter Co. agent faxed daily Defender / Challenger race results. He faxed them. Bleeding edge.

The MarComm Head for America’s Cup Challenger then Defender SUI Alinghi was a swell fellow. The Swiss know how to run PR. He took me aside at their base in AKL and we discussed the Regatta (that team was in the lead as of the date of my visit). This conversation allowed me to meet Kiwi Driver Russell Coutts. MarComm and I spread news in advance and co-hosted one of the first real time Fan Chats, ordinary sailor geeks *talking* with race team sailors. Bleeding edge.

Don’t draw conclusions irt : mass markets based on your site samples (it’s a hodge-podge of folks with wide interests and specialities. We are probably not a canary for general pop minds. They are a hive, we still think. Eh? And, some are sailors (OBSCON).

Anger Shoveling : this is working well, providing my chopping doesn’t exceed tool specs. Chopping my way up a set of steps abandoned, now crowned with ice, I noticed chunks of red plastic. The leading edge of my shovel, four years into use. An irony, went touring to collect USPS mail I also shoveled the pole barn drive (Mrs. E may use her sedan, TBD). Used a shovel that is older than E2.

        Now to My Real Point…

That ^ from a turning point in PeopleNomics report, this date. Sure, we all have one. Mine is find a way to be a happier you. It’s frickin contagious as he** (heck). Give it a spin.

  2. Time locking..is it not obvious to all ?

Came up last night while listening to Rick Beato interview Flea from Red Hot Hot Chili Peppers. First thing first – I am always amazed at how intelligent these big time successful musicians are, ignorantly thought he was just some mindless Ape banging away at his Bass..NERP, nothing could be farther from the truth.
Anyways they were talking about how todays Yutes dont get/have a broad exposure to music anymore..kinda tracing it all back to rocking ronnie rayguns deFUNding all Music programs thru dept ED.
So Time Locking became the subject of discussion of why todays Yutes hardly know any other Music except that which they listened to during PUBERTY/Sexual Maturity Process.
Flea turns out to be a very insightful chap, beside being a violent Killer of a bass player..NO Pick.
Maybe crazy, but certainly not stupid.
Flea be the dude ion the skeleton suite..if you dont know what a Bass looks like.

    • I met Flea at the chili peppers concert at T-Mobil Park a few summers ago. I ran there backstage.

There was an handy cap fella in a wheel chair who was a huge fan. I spoke with him. When Flea was coming off the stage I spoke to him and asked him if he had a guitar pick for the fella. He told me to go stand by him so he new which person it was. So I went out there and Flea watched from the curtain on stage. I went backstage and said His name is Justin. and his favorite song is Higher Ground.

Flea went into the dressing room and came back out a few moments later with an autographed poster, a guitar pic and two drum sticks and said take these to Justin. I said thank you! I will most certainly personally see he gets them. I took them out to him and he started crying. He couldn’t believe it.

In the middle of the concert durring the song Higher Ground The Chili Peppers stopped playing, all pointed at this fella and said Justin! Then went back to playing.

I love bands like that. they are their for the fans. not everyone does stuff like that. Most of The Country Singers and Definently The Scorpions and Elton John treat their fans well.

Besides the Chili Peppers, Dirks Bently was the most impressive. And Kane Brown and Eric Church which i had a story about both on my creation which is no longer available and has transitioned into Spirit form. Still available via the way back machine.

There was this kid who was at the Dirks Bently show on his 11th birthday. His name was also Dirk. I was grabbed by the arm of his Mother who pushed her way past the crowd to get my attention before the show. She told me and pointed at him. So I went back stage and told Dirk, hey there is this kid its his 11th birthday today and he is a Huge Fan and his name is Dirk.

He had me go get him and when Dirks Bently did his finally? He road out on stage in his Harley with the kid on the back of it. He had the whole Tacoma Dome Sing this kid Happy Birthday. Then asked the Kid his favorite song. The Kid said this is so crazy. A dream come true! Thank you! My favorite song is Free and Easy. So, the band played Free and Easy and Dirk and the kid sang the song together on stage.

That is super cool in my book.

I am a huge base player fan.

Top Three favorite base players of all time.

#1 Steve Harris from Iron Maiden.
      #2 Justin Chancellor from Tool
      #3 Cliff Burton Metallica.

All these fellas I have seen in concert. Met Justin at the Tool Show. One of the Coolest dudes i have ever met. They play the base with a furry I never ever seen anyone play like. Especially Steve Harris. His hands when he played were a blur, they are moving so fast. Never missed a note! The first time I saw Iron Maiden Live i was watching him the whole time Awe Struck.

Per the article. I have to be reminded my age once and a while. I still run and work just as hard as i did when I was 25. I am in the same physical condition as I was 30 years ago. All my tests come back the same. Internally I am the same as i was when i was 25 health wise. Blood pressure, cholesteral levels, white blood cell count, etc etc. same as I was when I was in super good shape at age 25. 30 years ago. The only difference is i have a white beard now. I can still do 300 push ups and 200 sit ups (alternating between 25 push ups, then 20 sit ups, then 25 push ups then 20 sit ups, without resting) in 20 minutes and 16 seconds. That is my best time. I am down to 3 packs of smokes a week. i don’t know why, i just smoke less now. and I can still run for 5 miles without a break. Most of the people including my girlfriend i regularlay hang out with are 10-15 years younger than me.

My roomate had a young lady over the other night (age 26) and she asked how old i am. I stopped and thought oh yeah I am 55. She said I hope I have half your energy at your age. I laughed and said Well I dont really think about how old I am 99% of the time. I just doing my thing, Like I always do.

Hope You all a Very Merry Christmas. I know I will. I just came back on here, mostly to speak to Stew and see what is up.

    • re: “Acid for the Children”, Flea, 2018

      BCP,
Pass the lighter, and rock the venue. You’ve put down a fine baseline perhaps pointing towards a ‘Shop Talk Sunday’ door. “Entertainment Weekly” printed an excerpt in 2018 from “longtime bibliophile” Flea’s then just being published book, “Acid for the Children”, as follows:

“There once was a small blonde Australian boy. He loved his dog. Life picked him up and shook him all around. Stumbling and bumbling, blindfolded and searching, he fell in love with the truly beautiful things. Sweet hearts warmed him with their love glow. Other hearts failed him. Feeling disconnected, out into the street he ran, looking for relief. In the process, he did things to dim his own heart light. A cold darkness of fear grew within. But in that scary place, Music, The Voice Of God spoke, telling him to share her voice on this earth.

He was swept up in the glory.”

Sound the trumpets! DJ George has a request for ‘cigarette lighter’ t-shirted Flea helping out Nirvana at Rio in January, 1993 via the following YouTube link (Kids, don’t burn the house down!):

  3. Work was disappointing this week. I found documents that myself and a coworker had generated with our intials removed, and the documents signed by a trio of draftsmen with inflated titles. No doubt they picked up some comments, and probably deserved a co-author place, but erasing the originating authors is plaigerism. One of the three has medical and behaviorial issues, and has been bullying myself and his other victim to do his work.

This is common corporate erasure meme which I have seen before. The individuals have no special licensing or credentials, and this is pure retaliation.
I have informed supervision, but every time I have seen this sort of behavior before, it has gone unpunished, and it is a signal that it is time to move on. I hate to walk away from a well paying gig, but I can’t tolerate an employer who allows this sort of workplace ganging by fair-haired smart asses and thugs.

With my medical black-listing being dealt with, I might even be able to pick up some new work.

  4. Jordan Peterson writes about immature parents in his 12 steps book. (I forget the exact title) That fits quite well with your idea of becoming stuck in time. Have you ever felt like the only adult in a room, or the reverse situation, the only one who still had childish delight?

I saw a counselor who told me to stop thinking. That’s like saying to stop breathing. I come here for new ideas to think about. Thanks George and all your followers.

    • The olny way I’d see a counselor like that one is through the rear-view! New ideas keep you young! (Elaine lives “acting young keeps you young” which also works well!)_

    • There is a time to stop thinking, and that’s usually in fast paced activities like downhill skiing, rollerblading, motorcycling, some social interactions, etc., where the cognitive side just can’t keep up. The rest of the time your brain is God’s gift to you, and your thoughts are your gift to yourself(paraphrasing Prem Rawat). I have a good friend who’s a retired counselor, and we do our best to help each other out with thoughts and inspirations. I might sharpen her lawn mower blade and make the thing work, but I can never understand her counseling thoughts. She lives in a different world that I don’t want anything to do with.

    George,
Today’s ChartPack appears accessible via manual entry. However the posted link doesn’t work at present.

  6. ‘time locking’…
Lately, for at least a week or two, your website has had access problems for me.

In the past, was able to freely click all posts open.

Have you set ‘view controls’ on the readers?

Now I have to close the site to look at another day’s post. Sometimes I try restarting the chrome laptop I use. Sometimes I do it 2 or 3 times for it to open.

Hovering the cursor over the ‘read more’ doesn’t work all the time….please fix if possible.

  7. George

Always a student of the long waves …

In 2005, I described a simple 4-phase time-based fractal series for the asset-debt macroeconomy’s equity self-ordering valuation growth and decay in the Main Page of The Economic Fractalist blog. (The large scale US hegemonic Fractal series has since been identified to have begun in 1807 vice 1858) For the SPX/QQQ/ACWI, the 7 April to 5 Dec 2025 fractal growth series of 34/69/68 days :: exactly matches the x/2-2.5x/2x (2005 identified) fractal growth pattern – replete with the nonlinear lower low gap between days 68 and 69 of the 69 day 2nd fractal.

The final average 3rd fractal 5 day grouping peak valuation for the SPX et. al. started on 28 Oct 2025 and was an average fibonacci 1.6 ratio of the ‘ideal’ first fractal base of 28 days (the 69 day 2nd fractal divided by 2.5). The final lower high occurred on day 68 (2x) 5 December, 2025). The 2025 crash is different than the 1929 crash. The 2025-2026 crash shares the-crash-begins-in-terminal-growth fractal characteristic with 1929, but will have a different and shorter decay fractal pattern with significant counter rally growth.

  8. Posted an update yesterday – hasn’t made the board yet though.
    .
One quick thought on todays’ subject.

“Skeptical of Change” – very much so. That is how I make ‘change’ work for me. I look for what advantage it will give me and how can I use it / exploit it so it is beneficial. I see nothing wrong in that approach.
    .
Gotta go – lots to do today.

    “Stay Frosty !”

Dam that has me reminiscent of the scientist and author I took care of.. he was the one that plotted the Apollo space missions.. wrote several book on quantum.. we would go out look at the stars and drink coffee..we talked about everything under the sun.. he would get frustrated that I wasn’t interested in quantum .. his favorite saying..or at least the one he always said..was.. just think about it.. nice guy his son is a scientist..then there’s Ama.. not his real name he just looks like Amadeus.. my nickname to him is Dex.. after the cartoon character poindexter..

  10. A most excellent First Things commentary this morning Mr. Ure. It was a marvelous thinking exercise.

I have been starting to use the embedded AI agents that are available in the applications that I use at work. If one queries the AI with the correct question, the results one receives can sometimes exceed the expected results !

I guess what I am saying, is that by learning to use AI correctly, I am seeing time savings and more accurate data returns.

I anxiously want to hear more of your thinking regarding human time locking.

      • ..living in the past – that does NOT exist any longer..

        DOES NOT EXIST.

a waste of time, effort, energy, same with the future. Tis why always urging peeps to be in the NOW. Clear the mind of the debris, junk and beliefs – anything requiring belief in this World is False, Fake BS.

Think about future, think about what you want it to look like, try and picture it in Ure mind for Universe. Put it out “there” for all to see. Maybe even post a picture of “it” in Ure ofc space to look at everyday..
DONE..move onwards, the Uni verse gotz it now, need to be patient now..for how long depends on how big you be “manifesting”..

Not in internet, not in phone, being here now means you might actually be in line for an NRGetic upgrade. Hell with the generous folk onboard 3SI, deathtraps are being dismantled. Daily briefings at WH on the subject, indicate they dont have a clue.
Hell I would even consider going outside at night – looking up and saying Hello, “Yo whats up”..ET be phoning home, will you be the one to pick up a “phone”?

        * When the time comes, soonly, officialdom announces “we are not alone” is the beginning of END for all abrahamic religions/religious beliefs. Suggest peeps start preparing for this acceptance of not being alone. Just a friendly suggestion.

Lets call it Djeds’ Wager- ya got nothing lose by believing in ET’s, if ya Die and no ETs, what can you lose ? Ure Memory/recall of this current Life ? bwahahahaahahahaha If they are here, and very real, youse got a new friend with a really really cool ride.

YOU got NO Memory of ANYTHING prior Birth, nobody does…duh -oooh!

        • No, you want to have a vision of the future and plan to move toward it. We are creative carbon, sir. And we make our own futures. Big difference between us and silicons and other species. We not only can visualize the future, but bend it to our wills. You really ought to read Mind Amplifiers book
Silicons have only bus time, animals are basically food/water time, sex time, sleep time.
          For vegetable time, see Sacramento.

And this accounts for a great deal of why some people age gracefully while other people…well, let’s just say not so much.”)

oh my..you had to bring that juicy tidbit up….lol lol.. there’s maybe four of five photos of me..about one every ten years.. I look back to the one when I was just a new grandpa..32…I had just torn a CINE film processor and needed a test run.. so I sat down the person taking the picture tossed a toy at me then snapped the shot..then one at fifty.. then one at the grandchildren wedding and a tear dribbles down my cheek.. I didn’t age like my father who aged gracefully..lol lol

  12. “At some point — often unconsciously — people “lock” onto a moment (or a time range) in their personal timeline and stop moving in step with the current. ”

How many ham operators do I know that are ‘locked’ in the vacuum tube age, collecting and repairing antiques? Waaayyy too many! (Looks at Ure)
I was forced to ‘go with the flow’ because of the broadcasting industry I worked in. Constant change, upgrades, ‘modernization’ of equipment that I had to know inside and out in order to work with and repair this stuff. I can tell you why a YIG oscillator is no good for digital TV microwaves. I can tell you how a 1.2 Gigabit HDTV video can be crammed into a 6 MHz wide RF channel. It’s fucking magic compared to the laws of physics I learned as a youngster. I had to relearn a LOT when digital TV came along, late in my career.

I love my IC-7300 for the RF-direct-to-digital bit slicing it does… wild technology I wouldn’t have dreamed of a couple decades back. So is it any wonder I keep prodding Ure to catch up with the solid-state digital times? Don’t get me started on tube-type audiophiles that are hooked on their ‘pleasing distortion’ amplifiers. Transistors are demonstrably ‘cleaner’ with less distortion. Physics fact. I think I’ve kept up with the flow of hardware technology.

    • When the ic-73009mk 2 ith hdmi lands, remember I do have qrp ft-8 portable…ain’t totally backwards – morse being an art not a ltime lock…whistles, shuffles feet, looks awkward
“Say anyone hear from Andy lately?”

    • (““At some point — often unconsciously — people “lock” onto a moment (or a time range) in their personal timeline and stop moving in step with the current. ”)

that is true..take Alzheimer’s.. in the early stages you can redirect them and bring them back to the present… but after a certain point they adopt an age where they were the happiest or some other experience.. one of my clients now is somewhere close to six years of age in his actions..a handful at times..I had one that just screamed.. and one that was a head professor that her time was getting ready for school the first grade..as you age from seeing those I have met..the one that was in Auschwitz.. her time was as a young girl in the camp..the man that was a young boy watching his father sink with the titanic had nightmares every night around one am..I would sit next to him and do my charting just so I could comfort him when hid fears took over..in each individual’s minds they were someplace else in time..

    • Same deal with the Bitcoins..moldy oldy aint never gonna get “it”. Thats okay, someone gotta be on the other side of everytrade..someone.

For the BCP – Im looking at the ic-9700. As my sainted Granny used to tell me, “lil BCP, you got to go Strong to the hole. Remember this and it will serve you well”

So Homegamers keep it mind, next time opportunity presents itself..Strong to the Hole!

  13. (“was noticing in my website traffic reports (we run lots of ’em) that an odd thing is happening: People are staying away in droves whenever I mention AI in a headline or as a prominent part of my research & writing.”)

I don’t know about the others but ..my vacancy isn’t because I don’t like the AI content.. I had to go back to work ..a few hours a week only to discover that the expenses of travel.. for me to travel eighty miles to help someone do basic cares for one hour..leaves an income of five dollars..two hours gives me a twenty dollar bill.. to pay dow n the twenty grand loan twenty dollars isn’t going to cut it.. so I added more hours on…today I have just myself at home pestering the wife..so since its ..ME..time.I can take a few minutes to read and reflect..take Wednesday and thursday.. I will begin my day at four thirty am.. get home about five..eat a sandwich then head to an assisted living center..next weekend ill be doing twelve there..I will probably make just under a hundred..before expenses.. after I get done with my clients on monday I will stop by the one clients house and clear their driveway and sidewalk.. seriously a nine year old can’t do it..the husband was injured in Afghanistan and he sure can’t do it the wife has her hands full..so why not the moron of TBE Midwest ill have a little time and have snowblower does travel..

  14. Planning a week to ten days passage to another interesting place is now equaled by finding routes and anchorages in this amazing wonderland of tiny islands nearby. Never a thought of “if only we were younger”, just one day at a time to rehab the girl from the last 8000 miles. Don’t give chafe a chance has to be one of the rules. Works for lots of things.
Chrono age means nothing. Getting stuck in a rut (a grave without ends) is the deadly format. Dream and do keeps the wheels turning. That and don’t become fish food.
    Stiks

    • My son G@ has been schooling me on that: “Dad you’re a vision/builder guy. I’m a builder/maintainer” My sea miles are a few thousand – I got out before things started to break, but 11-years of PNW sailing was as good as life gets. Until I started reasding your adventures… and thinking I really shoudl have shooik-off monohull madness…

  15. Reflecting on today’s post, I realize that, at 81, I am selectively locked. My taste in music is locked in the late 50s and early 60s. As a recovering engineer who transitioned from analog to digital. 4-bit micros to PCs, pagers, to a luggable phone, to a Palm Pilot, to finally a ‘smart’ Android phone, which I have locked, only using my phone for reading, calls, & texts. It came with a lot of apps that I refuse to use, and the only app I ever loaded is the Kindle app.
I do use Grok for my writing research and editing, and your words on how to define what I want from AI have been useful. I’m certainly now an AI Power User (I still don’t pay for the upgraded version), but it’s a tool I now rely on, which saves me time, and gives me a silicon partner that is helping me improve my final product.

    • Exactly the right path – meanwhile, spin the FM dial now and then – some of the new stuff is pretty good. Every six months, or so, loolk up the Billboard Hot 100 and stomach what you can – and appreciatg the good mixed with the schlock. The future – not embraced – is like a sand-blasting gun and will age you faster than a mother-f**(ker if you don’t embrace it. And spending too much time in the past? that will drag your parking brake on immortality, too. It’s like I said in the PN piece, trucker’s call it “keeping in the rocking chair” between facing future and clinging to a past that’s left the building…

      • These days, I’m very aware of time, and how I use it. The only time I listen to music is when I’m doing something that having it in the background won’t disturb my primary activity. I won’t take the time to separate the wheat from the chaff while trying new music.
I’m focused on projects that I can still do, in spite of the limitations my worn-out body forces on me.

      • Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter write most of their own stuff, a number of Country/C&W (I assume folks know the dif) singers and the heavy/grunge/scream R&R/metal bands (like my kid’s band) do also.

Everything else is formulaic and boring, although when you catch an earworm from some of it, it infects, and periodically resurfaces at often, the most inopportune times…

  16. I often use free Grok and ChatGPT when I need a survey of something I don’t want to waste time researching, and occasionally for a deep dive into serious questions of the moment. I’ve found that other AI’s like Perplexity tend to be clumsier for the simple stuff. The schedule is too full and AI will try to encourage me to waste even more time once I have what I need from it. Both of these public facing AI systems have extremely rigid guardrails and many times up to 50% of what I ask gets flagged or unanswered. A truly uncensored system trained on as much of the serious net as possible(LOL) would be useful, but that would require a time commitment that I’m not ready for yet – perhaps when there’s a foot or two of mud and snow outside. ChatGPT seems like an occasionally smart chatty old minister who always wants me to stay mainstream in my views and I can’t abide that. Grok is more serious and usually better for deeper dives. I always need to preface both that I want professional answers and that I am competent in whatever field we’re talking about. Even then ChatGPT insists on being excessively wordy and constantly repeating itself. I get the feeling that both are not experienced in discussing truly novel concepts, but do provide insights or info on occasion. I save the chats for the links and concepts. On balance, they’re useful and are growing smarter by the day, but their guardrails eliminate 90% of their full utility.

AI today is being used to flood youtube with mass quantities of nominal videos with a droning monotonic AI voice with a British accent. Sometimes it gets so bad that I mute it and just watch the subtitles at 2X speed. I only bother if there’s potentially useful info. Another thing with common AI pictures and videos is the incredible misspelling of words in the pictures(not subtitles). I’m not sure what gives rise to those artifacts, but when I try to read them and there’s barely an essence of sense, I do wonder – what’s causing this? I don’t hate AI, but I do find it frustrating since getting what I want would require a dedicated fast computer, personal stacks, and a lot of time that I’m not prepared to allocate.
