Seatbelt Saturday

An ounce of Prevention column today ahead of the weekend. Which is when colliding ideologues could really light up headlines, social media, and light off a huge market decline if trigger-point events occur.

Before we get to that, however, there is the CPI figures just out.  And anyone besides us curious about the perp count from last night?

OK, we’ll find something on that but we have 24 charts to meander through, as well.

Tranquilizers and coffee – it’s the American way!

Which will make sense after you read our full strategic briefing for this morning.

  2. Speaking of vitamins, can you recommend a brand? I stopped taking AREDS2 because of heartburn. My eye doctor suggested Zinc but I’ve been thinking about a good multivitamin.

We have a local Facebook web page where someone asked when we were going to hold a protest like California. No one seemed very interested. This is a military city with lots of legal spouses and some adopted kids from other countries. No one seems to harass illegals but people prefer to follow the rules on such things. Of course we have liberals who might want to protest, and lots of gang members who might find it fun to raise a little h*ll.

Look for U.S. made in certified facilities using U.S. sourced ingredients all 3rd party tested.

Personally I’m leery of buying from $AMZN unless it’s from the brand specific store.

    • LEF.org (Life Extension Foundation) distributes pharmaceutical grade products. They have many products, one of which is Macuguard (sic?) that I believe contains all and more of the ingredients in AREDS. They are somewhat pricey but still competitive.
Very hard to determine which supplement companies are owned by ‘big pharma’ as well as which deliver what they claim

    • Eleanor, I try not to buy supplements from overseas because I don’t want a source to dry up from instability and frankly, I don’t trust the Chinese, especially, WRT their production and sanitation standards.

Everything Life Extension puts out is good quality. A lot of it is expensive, compared to other supplement labs. Life Extension, Puritan’s Pride, Swanson, Country Life, Solgar, Piping Rock, Jarrow, Solaray, Now, Carlyle, and a half-dozen other major brand names grace my supplement shelf. Additionally, there are a bunch of labs who come up with a revolutionary product which everyone eventually licenses. For Instance, Niagen is made by ChromaDex. Their brand name is “Tru.” “Tru Niagen” is the original product and everyone who sells a product with “Niagen” either buys or licenses it from Tru. One of the best astaxanthin supplements is BioAstin, from Hawaii, and one of the best boron supplements (calcium fructoborate) is Vibrant Health. The best resveratrol may be Vinia (red grape powder) by BioHarvest (of Israel.) These are small or research labs who struck gold with a single product.

An eye supplement I take daily is “Moistur-Eyes” by Carlson Labs. I take Nordic Naturals “Complete Omega” because it has an excellent supplement profile, and I do take a few supplements from both Vitacost and Bulk Supplements.

I recommend NONE of these, and I don’t give medical (or any other) advise. What I DO recommend is that you read & research to determine what would be best for you. You can not latch onto a single brand name because different labs make the products they specialize in, better than other labs. Drop in on the Swanson, Piping Rock, Life Extension, and Puritan’s Pride websites and get a “feel for their products. Once you have an idea what you might wish to order, price it at all the above, THEN go to Amazon and Vitacost. See who has the lowest SHIPPED price or, if necessary, order from several.

If you don’t know what you want, try checking out a copy of Kirschmann’s “The Nutrition Almanac…”

  3. Hard to stay in synch when 13 hours time difference and not a subscriber. BCN alluded to Pine Gap here in Australia – I’m an anti-Len D. Have been to the red heart and didn’t give a thought to all of that – part of the 5 eyes alliance, nothing more. As a geo I was more interested to climb Uluru, fly over Kata Juta, walk the rim of Kings Canyon and marvel at the Pleiades on a bitterly cold inland winter night earthed to the red dust and spinifex. Found a rare nickel-iron meteorite at the Henbury crater site the next day which is still a prized possession………….

“The Henbury crater field lies at the crossroads of several Aboriginal language groups, including Arrernte, Luritja, Pitjantjatjarra, and Yankunytjatjara. It is considered a sacred site to the Arrernte people and would have formed during human habitation of the area. Older Aboriginal people would not camp within a couple of miles of the Henbury craters. An elder Aboriginal man who accompanied Mitchell to the site explained that Aboriginal people would not drink rainwater that collected in the craters, fearing the “fire-devil” would fill them with a piece of iron. The man claimed his paternal grandfather had seen the fire-devil and that he came from the Sun. An Aboriginal contact said of the crater field: tjintu waru tjinka yapu tjinka kurdaitcha kuka, which roughly translates in the Luritja language as “A fiery devil ran down from the Sun and made his home in the Earth. He will burn and eat any bad blackfellows.” This indicates a living memory of the event.”

To other matters – Andy’s “precognitive” dream. I think the date was June 24/25 or perhaps it was July – George would know. It may still be in play. From my own dreamscape the bigger the impact the further the event echoes back into the past. The imagery was so vivid and the time stamp so precise I can’t help wondering. I recall a rather bizarre image of a Maine Coon cat sitting in the back seat giving the exact date and time (915 am). I just happened to be visiting my 96 year old father last Friday (that would be a 6/6 for pattern seekers) when a cousin I hadn’t seen since we were kids turned up. Has a pet grooming business and just before he left made a point of showing me a photo on his phone – a stunning pure white Maine Coon cat. Got me thinking…………

In the day and age of biodegradable crap and photosensitive plastics, glass containers are to be treasured. I save THICK glass booze bottles for the same reason. The weak link is always the cap, but they can be “Maker’s Marked” (dipped in Plasti-Dip or even paraffine and thus sealed…)

Glass is the best storage medium ever devised, for most things and in most circumstances. I believe this is why it has been obsolesced…

        • My wife uses them to age and store “medicinal” tinctures. One “expanded” a little too much one night and blew out the bottle. Thankfully there was a piece of furniture between it and me. She lovingly shakes them each once a day. So, maybe consider finding an herbalist to donate them to.

IOl I was thinking the same thing..does he even realize what a bounty he has..During economic collapse there’s shortages..seems like all the simple things we all take for granted..Wine saved the planet..
I had thought what a bounty … thise bottles would be perfect. A few days ago my son inlaw was curious what i have in a shed i said wine bottles. he asked huh.. well during my hard times in life i learned what things we take fog or granted. while you buy temporay euphoria i buy what tools are needed in the event something happens. my father told me a story his grandfather told him pre-Weimar germany. the government kept boasting a good economic stability .. eveventually that would change. two brothers inherited a grand sum each. one brother invested it in banks..the other went out wine women and song. then the weimar depression hit in what seemed like an overnight event. the one brother had to use a wheel barrow to get a loaf of bread the other brother had a basemennt filled with wine bottles and there was a glass shortage. i learned how to do many things over my what in the hell do i do now times.. would i change it if i could go back..tempting but my struggles taught me lessons i wont ever have known created me for who i am and inspired me to help others going through their struggles with a hand up or teaching them hat w to do things. why i asked my son nlaw why do you think i was teaching the kids how to make wicktorian lamps and telly heaters.. because i see exactly what i believe is coming. when it flips it will be overnight even though we all see it coming..while they invest in temporay euphoric moments of doing the snoopy dance rather than investing on tools talents and knowledge improvements..they are seeking the business model ..Wine has played a crucial role in times of war and societal collapse, serving multiple purposes beyond just dulling emotional distress. Historically, it was valued for its preservation qualities, nutritional benefits, and cultural significance.
Why Wine Was Essential During War and Collapse:
Preservation & Safety: In many ancient societies, water sources were often contaminated, making wine a safer alternative for hydration. Its fermentation process helped kill bacteria, making it a reliable drink in uncertain times.
Psychological Relief: Soldiers and civilians alike turned to wine for comfort, using it to ease stress, grief, and trauma during war. The Greeks even referred to it as “liquid courage” before battle.
Trade & Economy: Wine was a valuable commodity, often used for trade when traditional currency lost its value during economic collapse.
Religious & Social Rituals: Many civilizations incorporated wine into spiritual practices, reinforcing a sense of unity and tradition even in times of hardship.
While wine certainly helped dull emotional distress, its role extended far beyond that—it was a symbol of resilience, a tool for survival, and a cultural anchor in the midst of chaos.

My night to cook dinner. I had something already planned.., but that was just sent to the curb. Needed something “different”.

I have been wanting to try the freeze dried Italian meatballs that I have in the pantry., so – that was my choice.
Yes., I did read the directions on how to re-hydrate them – but, instead of just warm water I mixed in a quarter of a cup of my home made teriyaki sauce and poured that over the meatballs in a glass baking pan.
    Turned out excellent.

Also, interesting it seems Michigan and Texas were number 2 and 3, at 457 and 406 per 100k respectively in 2023 both significantly higher than the national average. How does that figure in the context setting and rationale for calling in the National Guards and Marines?

    feat: “Heroes of Springfield”

    Folks,
Today was occasion of the Fourth Ukraine – South East Europe Summit held in Odesa. (One imagines debris cleanup operations continue in central Kyiv.) The host city is understood to have its name derive from a hero of Homer’s epic Greek poems, Odysseus.

Prior to commencement of the Summit program per se, the President of the Ukraine flanked on both sides by his esteemed visiting delegation heads, strode along the “Alley of Heroes”. Each carried a bouquet of red roses as they marched towards press cameras.

The “Alley of Heroes” memorial opened on August 29, 2024 although the park itself dates to the early 19th century when built over an old fortress. It went by the name of Alexander’s Park following a personal visit by the Tsar. In either 1920 or 1954 depending whether one accepts “Wikipedia” or a defunct “City of Odessa”(sic) site for advice, the place became known as Taras Shevchenko Park.

Mr. Shevchenko entered this realm as a serf, but rose to become a Ukrainian poet and Russian author. Perhaps his magnum opus is “Kobzar” (The Bard). Interestingly he also held court amongst members of the Brotherhood of Saints Cyril and Methodius. The underground group aimed for a Slavic federation of equal states, and freedom from serf slavery. Saints Cyril and Methodius lived in 9th century Byzantine Greece. They’re credited among other things with inventing the cryllic alphabet. More recently they were made co-patron saints of Europe in 1980 by Polish Pope John Paul II.

Stem from their Legislature. ALL OF THE ABOVE (and many other social and societal ills, besides) can be traced directly back to Cali’s “legislative actions” of the past 70 years or so. They are in the shitcan because they voted to put psychopathic, sociopathic assholes in Sacramento, who then imposed their will on the Californicators. I sympathize deeply, but unless enough of the State’s voting public acquires enough common sense to toss the brigands, I don’t see the Cali future as being very bright.

feat: a Persian love story warning

      Ray,
Thank you for word of the extraordinary nuptials and link. The story of “Layla and Majnun (Layla’s Mad Lover)” by the Arab poet Qays dating to the 7th century is Iran’s version of the West’s “Romeo and Juliette”. Layla hailed from Layla in present day Saudi Arabia. Her suitor Qays (Majnun = “Crazy”) was from the same territory of Najd, home of the presently ruling House of Saud. I think Qays was a cousin of Layla’s father. Both lovers allegedly descend in direct line from Mohammad, said to be descended from Abraham via Ishmael.

The Jhulta Minars (“Shaking Minarets”) are located in Ahmedabad, India. The two can be made to vibrate together though the reasons why or their method of construction is not fully understood. They are earthquake-resistant. The other remaining like example is Monar Jonban (“Shaking Minarets”) in Isfahan, Iran, also home to Iran’s nuclear facilities.

      Spoiler Alert:
In the fictional “Red Sparrow” trilogy authored by the late Jason Matthews, faulty high-tech, earthquake proof flooring structures for use in conjunction with nuclear centrifuges are shipped to Iran. An earthquake results in a failure of the defective flooring, and the centrifuges vibrate to destruction.

Anecdotal layperson descriptions of mountains surrounding Isfahan such as Mount Soffeh speak of blue mountains. Yet AI and search engines don’t appear to make such a correlation. However a printed 1996 book now digitized does make occasional mention. It is titled “Book Arts of Isfahan: Diversity and Identity in Seventeenth-Century Persia” by Alice Taylor. It was published in 1995 by the J. Paul Getty Museum of Malibu, California.

Bookbinding credit went to Roswell Bookbinding of Phoenix, Az. In recent times the company has evolved into BindTech Roswell with multiple offices. The first mentioned on their website is a lowrise industrial area facility on Antioch Parkway, Nashville. Antioch was the first place where The Bible mentions Christians. A blue-tinted image of the downtown Nashville skyline is shown. Centered in the frame is the AT&T “Batman” Building having minaret-like structures on either rooftop side. It houses a local office of private equity firm Cerberus. Cerberus is the three headed dog of Greek legend. It guards entrance to Tartarus, a deep dark lowest point of the universe underneath Hades. As chance would have it, the “Wikipedia” supporting footnote points to a 2012 story of Cerberus involvement with a distressed steel mill at Sparrows Point, Maryland. The facility at one time had been the largest steel producer in the world. Now its site is parkland. Here is a Youtube link to a drone’s eyeview of the Batman Building:
