Weekend War Bets, Anyone?

You know the old saying, right?Man who keeps ear to ground risks being run over!”

And yet, there is so damn much going on that a little “ground sounding” seems like a useful thing to do in here.

Starting with a look at the markets in the Pre-Open with our Aggregate Index to see where we are…

Four Channel Monte

Your “Personal Best” way to  invest, may be related to the type of brain Nature (and Randomness) have seen fit to equip you with.  Some people are farmers. Others are fishermen, while I’m more of a hunter.  If HR paid any attention to natural proclivities, they’d focus more on natural inclinations in hiring – and not ESG pap – which would make the world a better place over time.

Hunters – hands up – like charts because they appeal to our natural hunting skills which involve the cerebral cortex – the GPU for the brain.  Thus, when looking at a semi-complex chart, we immediately see…what?

There are four trend channels.  The Green one is the longest-running and we’ve been in that one for a good long time.  Being well above it now, the odds of it breaking in a single day are near zero.

The next channel higher (higher take-off angle) is the white one.  Again, not quite up to the top of that channel, but not all channels have to be filled.  The pink channel – the next-steeper slope, is where we get into trouble.

Futures pricing early had us opening on the bottom of the pink channel and – if the market should happen to fall out of bed late in the session as firms get ready for the bi-weekly Bank Reserve Settlement (tomorrow) then we could bust out of a key trend channel.

And last – the smallest and steepest channel – the yellow one is “on the line” today as well.

None of this, of course, is financial advice; rather it’s more how a hunter’s eye will see the game that’s afoot.

Dirty Politics and Filthy Lucre

With the electile dysfunction two weeks out, there’s a certain eau d politik for the nose held while reading Goldman Sachs Says Euro Could Drop 10% Under Trump Tariffs and Tax Cuts. Which seems to have set off the BS alarms at Bloomberg which counters with The Case Against Goldman’s Post-Election Stock Bounce.

Markets are doing shades of Joe Harnell’s famous (if you were aware in 1963) song Fly me to the moon(Which begs for me to mention for BCN that Joe Harnell’s son – Jess – was a voice actor in the Crash Bandicoot and did many of the voices on the (unredacted Disney) Splash Mountain ride back in the day…)  No doubt BCN would also love to see us mention Bitcoin flashes rare ‘double super signal’ – Why this is important, but we’ll go with the choice characterizations and whatever’s behind curtain #4.

That’s where we see what one of the regional Fed chiefs is saying (which sounds suspiciously like what we’ve told you about crypto from the get-go): Fed President Says Crypto ‘Almost Never’ Used Outside of Drug Deals, Illegal Activities – Decrypt.

We will remind you that cyrpto’s also cause Global Warming and Climate Change (it’s an energy pig) which we claim the right to point out owning, um about 40 solar panels now.  (*Will they work in nuclear winter? Aye, there’s the gamble…)

So much for lining up things comical and market-wise.  The rest of the day is a yawner.

BRICS Bat

Knock-knock.  Who’s there?

South Africa: Ramaphosa tours Russia: Push for BRICS to end US dollar dominance, enabling settlements in local currencies

Armenia: Pashinyan to attend BRICS summit hosted by Putin.

India: PM Narendra Modi lands in Kazan to attend 16th BRICS Summit.

And of course, China:  How China promotes global development, governance through BRICS.

Knock-knock.  “Who’s not there?”

Blinken we’re thinking: Antony Blinken in Israel as U.S. looks to renew cease-fire efforts after the killing of Hamas leader. We don’t know why Blinken had to go – there are these things called phones or you could hit the J Post online and read Israel tells US conditions for end of war with Hezbollah – The Jerusalem Post.  But what is the operating cost per hour of a C-32? You’re a taxpayer, so we know you’re good for it…  The Leaked Secret Documents Regarding Israel’s Attack Plans For Iran & Attempts To Assassinate Netanyahu – Scott Ritter w/ Judge Napolitano (Video) worth taking in – as there’s not much rolling today – yet.

More or Less Useless

Looking free advertising in the mouth: McDonald’s didn’t give Trump permission to serve fries. It didn’t need to. Did Mickey D’s ever give out an HR summary of Kamala’s claims?

After Lightfoot, what’d you expect? ‘Playground for rats’: Chicago crowned ‘rattiest city’ in America for 10th consecutive year. How’s that new S.A. gang industry going?

How are America’s political prisoners doing? Liz Cheney Faces Growing Scandal After Expert Exposes Key J6 Evidence As Likely Fake. Who was it who said “Examples must be made”?  Abigail Adams to Thomas Jefferson, 29 January 1787. Although, “The Dft arranges the first three sentences found in the RC paragraph somewhat differently and identifies Lt. Col. (Jonathan) Jackson as a man Jefferson had met in France and Lt. Col. (Stephen) Higginson as a former member of Congress before closing with the sentence: “It is not unlikely that some examples must be made before the riots will be totally quelled and peace and good order restored.”

And guess what we’re 18th in the world in thanks to Biden and the free-spending Congress? 2024 International Tax Competitiveness Index | Tax Foundation

And, just in time to vote:  A group of 2,000 migrants in southern Mexico depart for the US weeks before election.

At the Ranch: How Dry We Are

Last week’s Drought status didn’t get much attention in the mainstream, but it’s mighty important for those “options” in life. Like drinking water and a bit of food, now and then.  Here’s the picture from last week:

“The U.S. saw a huge expansion of drought for the second week in a row. Every state in the Plains and Midwest worsened except Kentucky. Parts of the West, South/Southeast, Northeast, and Hawaii worsened too. As of October 15, 2024, 37.65% of the U.S. and Puerto Rico and 45.02% of the lower 48 states are in drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.’

The National Integrated Drought Information System says as of last week 95.5 million people in this country were living in drought conditions.

We mention this because we’re hard at work this week getting our “waterworks” set up with the first 450 gallons of backup water installed. We’ll keep you posted as this week’s data is updated, but it’s a good prepper move to check and change out water every few months.  Plan to gallons per person for basic hydration and more for cooking, laundry, toilet flushes and the like.

We can’t help but notice that one inch of rain in the past two months HERE puts us in the same precipitation rate as, oh, Phoenix, or so.

Seems to us that a “new dimension of prepping” is coming along with the weather wars and multi-canes.  Just saying…

Write when it rains, or one of us gets rich,

        • Go to YouTube and see what “Antenna Man” recommends. Best source of REAL information out there wrt what works best for each issue.

He has done a lot of equipment reviews and is as straight a shooter as you will find in that arena.

        • Beware the REWAVE antenna. They will add items to your order that you did not request and bill you for them. I speak from experience, as I just ordered one at the 50% discounted price of $39.95, and the order total showed FIVE antennas and THREE extended warranties for a total of $163.56. I’m trying to get that rectified, but there’s no option to cancel the order on their site.

        • “looking for new antenna booster”

          Why?

Are you in Erie? With a decent antenna and a rotator, Toronto would be fringe but you should be able to pull U.S. stations from Lansing to Ashtabula, OH, or maybe even Erie, PA. If’fn you’re closer to London, The “Tri-Cities,” Detroit, maybe even Ann Arbor, and as far east as Buffalo and Niagara Falls, and you’d be solidly inside Toronto’s broadcast area.

“Antenna boosters” or amplifiers amplify the signal your antenna receives, but they also amplify the noise your antenna receives. Because of this it is difficult to realize more than a couple decibels of useful gain. I generally suggest that people buy better antennas. There’s a reason that that Channel Master or Winegard “deep fringe” antenna costs more than a case of “set-top” antennas…

BTW, “cheaper99.com” is a custom Dogpile / Webcrawler search tool which overlays a graphic interface. It can be a useful shopping tool, and unlike every other such tool, uses ZERO Google input.

  2. AI’s surge is sparking demand for a unexpected GE product.
GE Vernova ‘adding gigawatts of nuclear energy’

The History of Uranium Mining and the Navajo People.

On April 29, 2005, Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. signed the Diné Natural Resources Protection Act of 2005 that outlaws uranium mining and processing on Navajo Nation lands.

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – A federal agency said seven more abandoned uranium mines will be cleaned up on Navajo land in New Mexico. The EPA said it will target the sites near Smith Lake and Mariano Lake which are both east of Gallup. Once this project is complete around 260 acres of land will be restored. Oct 9, 2024.

AI and cryptocurrencies require much electricity.

    • Cryptocurrency mining, mostly for Bitcoin, draws up to 2,600 megawatts from the regional power grid— about the same as the city of Austin.

  3. Ask a strong Climate Change activist when are THEY going to be giving up their Internet and Smart Phone addiction and see what they say. Oh and be sue to ask them if they ever use AI. Then point out to them just how much “Energy” their addiction is using.

As a follow up ask them if they have traveled long distance, say by plane, anytime in the last 3 years … and if so ask them WHY since such travel uses up oodles of energy and creates such a huge amount of atmospheric “contaminants”.

Cognitive Dissonance is the only way to describe their denials that THEY PERSONALLY and people like them are part of the problem, a large part of the problem.

(to help you understand their mental problem here is a definition of Cognitive Dissonance:
“Cognitive dissonance is the discomfort a person feels when their behavior does not align with their values or beliefs. Cognitive dissonance is a psychological phenomenon that occurs when a person holds two contradictory beliefs at the same time.”)

  4. I’ve thought about putting in a tank and collection system for run-off water to run the toilet. In order for that to work, you have to have rain and run off water.
I’m not quite ready to go for a composting toilet. By the time I get through with screwing around with back-up systems, I could have a very tiny dry off-grid cabin for about the same $$$$$ cost.

    • If you have a 5-gallon bucket with a “horseshoe cut” in its lid, you can buy an awful lot of garbage bags for the cost of a composting toilet.

      Just sayin’…

      • Forget the horseshoe cut. Just rig a standard toilet seat over such a bucket. Much more comfortable with the same results. Quick and easy with power tools, so do it in advance.

  5. Amazing that it happened. Youngest 21 BD just got her shirt back cut! Hubby did it a few weeks ago. Oh to be 21 and doing your Solo flight! Has her heart set on commercial aviation. Scary but I believe she will. I had thoughts of pilot but with too many ruptured eardrums (scuba) and balance issues better part of valor! Rain here is scarce in the deepest south. Truck in the shop getting transmission overhauled. Its only money! Still cheaper than anything used or ….new. Pet peeve some special person tied a dog at the end of road this weekend. Would like to make a special present for them and tie them to a remote place with no food or water to see if they like the idea. Well future looks so bright I should wear shades all the time.

  6. I guy I know on the internet [ which actually means; I don’t know him.] was touting Norway’s trillion dollar fund for their nation that returned a “massive 4.4% !”
I laughed at him – he didn’t like that much.., then I pointed out that the S&P500 Index has returned over 22% so far this year., no work., no effort – a buy-&-hold no-brainer and you would have made over 22% ROI to date and even our government’s guaranteed 13week Note is returning 4.5%. “Returning 4.4% on such a massive investment is really just an embarrassment.”
    He had no idea.
People, in general, do not like to do their homework, do they? They simply and often quite loudly mouth-off, because -“it sounds so good”. If you produce some ‘verifiable facts’ for them to digest., you suddenly become an ‘enemy of the state’.

    • ” you suddenly become an ‘enemy of the state.”

If you didn’t do that years ago, you weren’t trying. LOL

  7. On this day in 1949
Seventeen years after writing ‘Brave New World,’ a masterpiece of dystopian science-fiction, British author Aldous Huxley writes George Orwell to congratulate him on his “profoundly important” new book, ‘1984.’ Orwell had been a student of Huxley’s at Eton 30 years earlier.

  8. George , I have four of those same blue water storage containers as you do. 32 gallons each. I change the water every TWO YEARS. When I do I add maybe two cups of bleach. I read your above and I have to ask , am I lucky so far ?

I always take a drink to make sure its fine. No twitches or stomach pains !!!

What say you ? ( or anybody else )

    • Two cups is too much. Use “pool bleach” (chlorinator) instead. It is double-strength food-grade bleach — takes only a few drops per gallon. Start with filtered water and sterile barrels and the water will keep for a lifetime.

With that said, I like and approve. I also keep chlorine filters handy…

      • That’s very similar to the water storage we did back when we actually had Civil Defense for regular folks.

  9. What ?

    Hear that ?

Thats the screaming of the Dems about the British interfering in our elections.

Sounds eerily similar to the screaming they did with all of the George Soros election interference.

  10. I believe this pretty much proves to the world why Israel does not share it’s intelligence and plans with the current, Biden administration.., as the Israeli plans for their counter attack against Iran has been ‘leaked’ by our government.
Though the same administration has announced that they are looking into it. As if that is going to help.
The question I have is not who.., or even why it was ‘leaked’.., my question is – was this really their plans? Or, was this a deliberate false-intelligence move., a deal from the bottom of the deck., to see what this administration would do with the counter-strike info., and would Iran move assets to help protect the proposed targets? [ What assets and how fast ?]
I personally find it very hard to believe that Israel would share their military plans with Biden. Why would they risk that ?

  11. George,

End of trading day today would have been a great short:
1987: 4/9/10 days :: x/2-2.5x/2.5x with day 10 of the 4/9/10 fractal series Black Monday 19 Oct 1087. 2024: from the Sept 11 low: 6/14/12 of 15 days with 25 October day 15 of the 6/14/15 day fractal series and a Black Friday equivalent to 19 Oct 1987’s Black Monday.

  12. George,

From the 15 Oct 2024 3 month Nikkei high: 2/5/2 of 4 days :: x/2.5x/2x with crash day on Friday 25 Oct.

  13. “Looking free advertising in the mouth: McDonald’s didn’t give Trump permission to serve fries. It didn’t need to. Did Mickey D’s ever give out an HR summary of Kamala’s claims?”

Trump “asked” and “got hired.” I’m wondering if they will give him a W-2. Were I he, I would demand they do so, and I would absolutely claim wages on my 1040 (even if it cost an additional $10k to my accountant.)

Neither McDonald’s nor the IRS has any record whatsoever of Harris ever having worked or drawn a paycheck at McDonald’s.

What no Leftist politician or strategist has figured out is DJT is the absolute master at scoring free publicity. Every time they turn his crank, he cops another 20 minutes of free facetime on every Leftist news channel and unhinged talk show.

  14. I saw a 14-point buck tonight!

Strolling down the road on the shoulder, headed the same way I was going, but on the left berm. I slowed down to almost his loping speed (because I don’t know when “rut” occurs everywhere, and after putting a 5-figure dent in a Chevy with 7k on its clock) I don’t trust whitetails anywhere, any time between Labor Day and Christmas. There’s two million car/deer accidents every year. I’d bet 1.5 million of them happen during rut.

I counted the points as I passed.

Biggest damn’ deer I’ve ever seen — Almost as tall as an elk, and majestic as hell…

  15. So, I broke down and purchased a wood chipper/shredder.

It was located at a farm in the hills of SE Ohio, ’bout halfway between Portsmouth and Pathfinder Bob. To get there I left Valparaiso (Indiana) and journeyed down US-35 toward Gallipolis. This is definitely not the fastest route — may be the shortest, though. I got to see a lot of Indiana and Ohio that I haven’t seen in years.

I used to drive this route about once per month — driving from the University of South Carolina (in Columbia, SC) to Ball State University (in Muncie, IN) or vice-versa. It was on one of these trips about 15 years ago that I drove from Chillicothe, OH to Richmond, IN in my Jetta (129 miles) on ~2 gallons of diesel (because I had no choice.)

    {That is the trip on which I earned my “800 mile club” badge.}

If you know how difficult it is to prime the filter and injectors in a VW diesel, you know how stressful this feat is, and how big a deal it is to dieselheads…

The farmer is a surplus hound (like me.)

    Pay attention, LOOB:

He told me I bought the chipper out from under Donald Trump. He had purchased the chipper as MIL-Surplus about six years ago. Sometime after I verbally-committed to purchasing it and before I arrived to pay for, and claim it, One of Trump’s people shot the farmer an E-Mail asking if, since he bought it as surplus and hadn’t yet sold it, could Mr. Trump buy it? The farmer sent back “I’ve already agreed to sell the chipper, but if the gentleman doesn’t come on Tuesday to pick it up, as he said he would, I will contact you.”

Trump wanted it to send to the “Helena zone.”

I’m not sure his surrogate realized it was a PTO-chipper, and worthless without a tractor.

H O W E V E R, the thing I got from the E-Mail (he showed it to me) was somebody in Trump’s organization could pull gov’t surplus sales records to see who bought what, when, or who has what, where…

    I find that, somewhat discomfitting…

The thing I got from the experience is: For some people, their word is their bond.

That farmer could have sold the chipper to Trump on Monday and probably gotten more money and an autographed heirloom, but his word was more important.
