There are two trade stories today.
The first involves Canada where we (still) have close friends (and a sister). There, after pulling every social con in the book (arresting people for bringing Truckers food and fuel? Really?) the TruDope aristocracy of ignorance is throwing in the towel.
We love Canada. Like Molson’s, the Bay, and Stanley Park, too. Elaine and I got hitched in front of the Empress Hotel in Victoria back in 2000. What’s not to love? I spent many weeks when young up at Lake Canim at this resort and learned to row a boat there.
We don’t care for faddish socialism. People in Canada (last I heard) were pretending there were more than 50-genders. Say what??? To ensure we weren’t blowing smoke, we checked in with A.I.
“Canada was the first country to collect and publish national census data on gender diversity. In 2021, 0.33% of people in Canada aged 15 and older identified as transgender or non-binary. The proportion of transgender and non-binary people was higher in younger generations.
Gender identities exist on a spectrum, and what feels most comfortable to a person may change over time. If you’re not sure what to call someone, it’s best to ask them what they would like to be called. “
We’ll save you the effort: Stupid works. Just count to, um, two.
Canadians didn’t used to be dumb. But when PQ (Parti Québécois) almost busted up the country earlier in my news-chasing days, the socialist swindlers came in with ’em. They played the Francofools well, and before you knew it, the country was blowing up the environment for the trees and ink people. They led the way into Speaking in Tongues II.
See, here’s the reality: Multilingualism (and all the other “multi’s” like multigenderism) runs exactly and precisely contrary to the core “American Melting Pot” notion. Absolute Equality. And, like Bitcoin (don’t get me started) it’s another way to rape the environment while lining specific pockets. English fast became the “second language” of Canada as the imperial socialists bought off the PQ with promises and and multilingualism, science and math were pressed down the agenda.
Quebec should have joined France. Instead, they followed The Dope Clan, and – very shortly – we expect British Columbia to become a province of China. They know easy-pickings when they see ’em.
Not that the U.S. isn’t in the same straits. Liberals – who couldn’t talk over the Middle here – are still pressing to keep America border-free and “speaking in all kinds of tongues” to work as much of that “United” stuff out of us as quickly possible. The socialist Utopia is when everyone “special” and nobody’s equal. Party insiders Rule, got it?
Rather than be bitter, or calling TruDope a has-been pompous ass (gimme an Amen! brothers and sisters!), we will look to our reasonable, freedom loving English and French-speaking neighbors and invite them to become American States.
Pros:
- We already have a currency that’s Loony
- We have lower taxes
- Warmer weather
- And we don’t kneel
- You don’t have to speak French (Or Spanish, but our resident lefties, like Canada’s just won’t give up on everyone being Special…)
- Oh, and we love the French even if all we understand are the fries.
Cons:
- Vancouver has better Chinese food.
- B,C, has Dungeness crab, Texas doesn’t
- Oh, and down here we spell it Mountees.
Dear Canada: Grow a Pair. You’re not “taking a right turn.” You’re facing a socialism hangover. Ask a Trucker about those fascists in Ottawa. We’re about to take a swing at handcuffing our version of Revenue Canada. Say, did anyone ever get their “impounded accounts” back from helping the Trucker’s strike? WTF, over.
America’s in a Buying Mood right now – Salvation on Sale, we call it. Why already Donald Trump Jr. to visit Greenland as president-elect ramps up calls for acquiring the territory. Once we get that as a State? You don’t want the Maritimes to be overlooked forever do you? Canada doesn’t need Ottawa, and since we already have too much Washington, we’re willing to share. Freely.
Our Domestic Trade Problem
For all their promises, the American sell out of our core manufacturing capacity to China and Asia is coming home to roost. Not only is the Federal debt compounding away towards $37-trillion, but we can’t make things here anymore. (Go ahead, find me an American Made laptop…)
“The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis announced today that the goods and services deficit was $78.2 billion in November, up $4.6 billion from $73.6 billion in October, revised.
November exports were $273.4 billion, $7.1 billion more than October exports. November imports were $351.6 billion, $11.6 billion more than October imports.
The November increase in the goods and services deficit reflected an increase in the goods deficit of $5.4 billion to $103.4 billion and an increase in the services surplus of $0.9 billion to $25.2 billion.
Remember: Higher on this chart is BAD.
As ugly as the data is, the Labor JOLTS report (job openings, layoffs, terminations, separations) will be out in a couple of hours. Might want to check your seat belt ahead of time; maybe a shot of aquavit, too. Hear it goes well with fairy tales. Then ADP Wednesday…
News on a Roll
Actually kinda like a toilet paper roll, now that I study it:
Pandemic Marketing! Yep, we’re all packed up for another lockdown because I told you months and months ago: Second Pandemic is planned for Q2. Now, look over at the bullpen: Louisiana confirms 1st human death in US from bird flu. Just nod your head and roll up your sleave: Bird Flu ‘Fearmongering’ as CDC Finds ‘No Evidence’ of Human-to-Human Transmission. We are slow-rolling our plans to raise chickens this year…
Oh look! It’s a Party Congress! Venezuela’s opposition leader Gonzalez meets with Biden. Meanwhile, the press tries to explain Here’s Why Joe Biden Gave The Presidential Medal Of Freedom To George Soros. Move over BK – Joe’s got the Whoppers. Instead of meeting with the Venezuelans, maybe Slow should look at his open border legacy: Caravan Rushes to Beat Trump’s Inauguration Day Border Crackdown. One more thing: Give the Venezuelans all the Biden Admin resumes. They’ll fit right in.

Look who’s defining Free Speech, would you? ‘Dangerous Rhetoric is Not a Welcome Form of Argument’: Judge Merchan’s Message to Trump in Sentencing Filing. What happened to the “free speech” part, oh yea lawfaring liberals?
Garland’s Latest Lie is really more a “mischaracterization of the facts” which is what weasel-wording lawyers do for a living: Merrick Garland Brazenly Claims That 5 Officers Died Due to J6. Um, even the liberal NY Times reported that four officers died of suicide. Come on, Garland, this ain’t going to look good on the resume. Oh, and the fifth officer? Natural causes said the M.E…. See how the left re-runs the Big Lies to pretend their views are honest? Wrong!

Around the Ranch: Radio Recovery
It’s alive! My SR-400 Hallicrafters, which is one of the better-ranked collectible HF SSB radios of the era.. Hallicrafters SR-400A HF Transceiver (4.9 our of 5).
Hot-diggity damn! But let’s hold the partying for a minute. See, the transmitter is kind of cranky.
While it will develop good plate current, the plate tuning cap isn’t working right. I think what’s going on is a possibly bad (or partly failed) capacitor from the final tubes to the antenna tuning components. Right here as C150 in about the center:
The joy of restoring old equipment is being able to understand the function of a moderately complex radio well enough that you can deduce (from control settings and what the set does back) down to just a handful of components that are the likely trouble.
In this case, no output on 80 meters with a bit more on 40 and 20 -on up the bands. A failing openC–150 could account for that, or maybe a bad ground on C149-A/B. The final bias is set right, plenty of HV and out of resonance (with drive) it wants to pull 300 MA, so looks like a simple problem. (They all look simple, until they aren’t, of course…)
But yes, the Radio Detective is on the case and making progress. When this radio is done, next up will be a Swann 500 on a heavy duty power supply (PS-3, not the 117). Love these good mysteries!

Folks,
I hope everyone is finding their pronouns agreeable this morning. Thank goodness English grammar doesn’t attach gender to parts of speech like French and Spanish do. Speaking of Spanish, new arrivals across the southern USA border may be happily conversant upon arrival with the official White House website which is offered en Español.
Green$land does sound more inviting than Iceland. Danish rulers of yesteryear have been known to wheel and deal in real estate. Apparently isles surrounding St. Croix, USVI, locale of a just-concluded First Family Christmas vacation were purchased by the USA from Denmark. Was the (1917?) price of us$25 million in gold a good value? What did Denmark pay France in the 1700’s? Was it somewhere around 750,000 lives in gold?
There’s always a deal to be made in real estate? Perhaps Denmark’s King Frederik X and his agent will be showing up with a copy of “Trump:Art of the Deal” in hand. By the way, the Faroe Islands may not be included in the basic Greenland package.
re: “Trade…”
Folks,
Apparently Canada’s trade negotiator Chrystia Freeland, nicknamed ‘Minister of Everything’, and Mr. Trump didn’t exactly hit it off during free trade talks during the first Trump Administration. Hopefully the Oxford graduate can gift a copy of her 2012 book to the Mar-a-Lago library to celebrate the upcoming inauguration. I have requested to loan a copy of her tome, “Plutocrats: The Rise of the New Global Super Rich and the Fall of Everyone Else”, from my local library branch.
re: Eric of Trump
feat: the hamlet of Nuuk
Folks,
History tells us that the Norse Viking Erik the Red was banished from Iceland and was a first European to explore Greenland between 982 and 985 ad. A century before, Norwegian Vikings had begun successful illegal immigration efforts on what is now the Scottish Outer Hebrides island of Lewis. By the time of the early childhood years spent on the island by President-elect Trump’s mother, it was owned by the First Viscount Leverhulme, founder of the multinational now known as Unilever. As an aside, one of his descendents is a lady-in-waiting to Anne, the Princess Royal, daughter of the late QE2.
Today of course, the world was treated to a spectacle of the daytrip by the President-elect’s eldest son, Eric, to Nuuk, Greenland for some selfies. Locals must have been rolling their eyes at the sight of the South Floridian with coiffed beard talking modern-day Viking swashbuckler hostile takeover mumbo-jumbo.
Travel of course was via Trump Force One. The craft began its many Nordic journeys 30+ years ago in colours of Denmark’s Sterling Airways. Following several years of smooth air, something was rotten in Denmark and the airline’s value tripled over the course of a single month amongst cozied-up investors. Shortly thereafter the airline declared bankruptcy. The future Trump jet and siblings took furlough at Copenhagen as Lady Macbeth bankers surveyed the mess. Thankfully the little Trump jet that could found itself under shelter of a faraway newly created Washington state company of Viking nomenclature. Under its guidance, the jet waited patiently and was rewarded with a new executive-styled interior fit for a future President. Leaving the nest for Trump Shuttle, its Washington state parent quietly retired from business releasing its prime office space to future productive endeavors.
A casual glance at Lady Macbeth’s handiwork would suggest that the descendents of the Nordic banks of the past continue to suffer money laundering allegations and hefty government fines under Danish PM Mitte’s watch? No wonder President Biden wouldn’t let her be Nato Secretary General? Is King Frederik X urgently signaling the royal families of a raven banner sighting on the horizon?
The Vikings are back ??
re: coinkydoink
The Bellevue, Wa., office building locale of the company that oversaw the stored Copenhagen jet, is now a home of Snapchat, they of ghostly avatar and timed-disappearing videos. The parent is majority owned by its two American co-founders. Chinese colossus Tencent holds ~45%. Interestingly “Bloomberg” reported yesterday that Tencent appears to be blacklisted by the US DoD for being “associated with the Chinese military”.
The Children’s Place has adult clothes on sale, many 74% off. They have pajama sets (some flannel) for $15 and $17 something. You can also buy just pajama pants for about $8. They have adult tee shirts with various holiday themes for as little as $3. They have men, women, and children clothes so you can buy next year’s matching pajamas inexpensive. Maybe Elaine would like some flannel.
Well, um, she does look better with it “75 percent off….”
Good one!!!!
Another diversion to keep your eyes away from the problem – we R broke……
So our POS Minister has resigned, but he shut parliament until Feb, so he’s still PM until the liberals choose a new leader, or until the gov gets a non confidence vote. The NDP leader JUG MEET SING (phonetic) keeps holding him in power voting with him, and won’t stop until he receives his pension status at the end of Feb. Exactly what a socialist would do, put his money before the welfare of people. Piece of crap dives a Maserati and has a Rolex collection. Some socialist.
Eventually people will learn:
“Socialism is for the people, not the socialist.”
The United States has one of the lowest (if not the absolute lowest) income and property disparity between its poorest and its wealthiest citizens. (Check stats on France, Germany, or the UK if’fn you don’t believe me…)
Cuba, Venezuela, and the former Soviet States have their oligarchs. These uber-wealthy didn’t accumulate their wealth overnight, and they didn’t lose it under totalitarianist communism. Even the hardcore communist poster child, China, is no longer pure communist, but has become a communist/fascist hybrid. (Maybe George Soros was actually ahead of all of us, since he created this Satanic socialist meld back in the 1950s?)
Exactly…… great point Ray….
I read a lot about the horrible Xi jinping…
but consider another horrible leader that everyone talked about.. Jimmy Carter.. probably one of the best in our history.. swung a hammer helping to build homes..

Montreal Expos trade Rusty Staub…
On April 5, 1972, four days after the start of the very first player’s strike in Major League Baseball history, and a mere three days after the sudden passing of manager Gil Hodges, the New York Mets announced a blockbuster trade to acquire all-star right fielder Rusty Staub from the Montreal Expos.
Staub was sent to the expansion Montreal Expos to begin their inaugural season in 1969. He became an instant hit – both on and off the field – and the fans loved him…dubbing him “Le Grand Orange.” He spent three seasons taking swings in the awful Jarry Park.

I still say let them come in.. but do it the right way..for every million of illegals that are desirable to those in office.. export a million of the hard working taxpayers.. an even trade..
I have been reading a lot about others that decided to move outside of the USA into countries that have a lower cost of living.. some live like a king on what they get in social security benefits..sell the house and move..just gotta talk the wife into it..hell a years taxes in Texas is less than a months here..

the doctor told him..I think you need to see a psychologist..
so..I bought a tube of KY jelly and one of wild cherry lube..when I went for my appointment I set them on the nurses desk…she gets really odd look and asks what’s that for..
well you going to ask if I’m gay hi or if I want to have sex.. and yup but we will need the lube and depending on if your an oral person you might appreciate the flavored lube and seriously does it make any difference on who takes care of little willy….lol lol lol.. she laughed and didn’t ask the questions..
(Go ahead, find me an American Made laptop…)
I had a great aunt that had a hosiery mill made socks and under wear….
when I was young we bought all of our underwear from an American company.. that was in the eighties.. today you’ll have trouble finding any.. the shoes that the VA commissary sells made in Vietnam and the uniforms that use to be made at a factory here..gone made in china..
pastries and cookies made in the usa..now made in Mexico or elsewhere..
Wal-Mart use to sell chocolate muffins made elsewhere then shipped frozen to the usa.. they can’t get them any more..
they have already gotten control.. the only thing is..we haven’t admitted they are in control..our politicians get so many perks handed to them by the lo byists..they don’t care.. neither side stuck around to work on any of the issues they say are huge..its business as usual..what good are they..

G – bless you and yours. My mom is 91 years young and had/having many similar issues over the past few years.
Elaine is lucky to have a supportive spouse. 24/7/365 commitment can be challenging as you well know – finding support when it all becomes overwhelming is key. Happy to chat if it is of help, been there – doing that.

Thank you
I see that you and Elaine are about to be blessed with some beautiful seasonable weather … the kind the reminds you that you are not South of the Equator during January, but North of that invisible line.
Ah … the beauty of having a different color of ground cover … the ability to quickly see what wildlife visits your grand estate during the night time hours by their paw prints come morning … and the sudden and steady draining of your bank account moving to your utilities bank account are all part of the wonderfulness of the season.
Enjoy the upcoming adventure … and if ERCOT is correct in their warnings shoot you may get a chance to actually put your newish generator and older propane heat system to the test!!
Stay warm!!
Yo G-Pops,
Moar footage from around de world of the “ships”. Seems .mil folks let out some advanced tech during the most recent show, an emergancy effort to suppress the biggest NEWS in our Lifetimes. “I’m cold…I’m going to put on some earrings…”
ROFL! Do you not recognize female attraction devices?
Next (unspoken) line: “Now come here and warm me up”.
LOL!
It’s quite amazing that female English language speakers manage to use the language in such obtuse ways, even though for the most part, they attended the same schools that we did!
While I found Elaine’s comment endearing, I immediately thought of a new business idea – heated earrings! With a fluffy insulating surround and a small rechargeable lithium battery, they could actually work. A micro-USB would be able to charge them easily. I’ve not checked, but it’s possible that Temu or even Amazon has them already. They could be made to look like cat ears, or in Elaine’s case – bunny ears.
Allready available in cold country. They are called ‘ear muffs’.
Communications question since this site seems to have lots of communication experts:
Will my dixie cups with string attached to each still communicate with each other during a snow storm? Sign language doesn’t seem to work well over any distance when in a snow storm.
Trying to make sure I have my communications devices working in case bad weather hits and sign language is not usable.
“Will my dixie cups with string attached to each still communicate with each other during a snow storm?”
Not by voice. They will work in an ice storm, but snow garbles the transmission to the point of unrecognizability, kinda like Mr. Biden after he speaks for more than five minutes. You will have to roll back to Morse code or, if it gets really bad, tie one cup off and use the line to run up a series of signal flags.
Mr. Ure, You forgot to mention the Silicon Valley in Mississauga Ontario…. Honorable mention to the U of Waterloo, [for cool tech woo]…….
The world’s most successful, first all-solid-state TV transmitter was built by LARCAN in Mississauga. I had the privilege to install the first one in 1986. After that, high power tube transmitters all but disappeared from the broadcast industry.

Stuff that’s specifically not made here is motherboards and mechanical hard drives. For some reason we can fab i9-14900K and Ryzen 9 9950X CPUs in the U.S. but we can no longer etch a friggin’ PCB…
And that’s my point, Ray. I go through a lot of components in my radio repair sideline and sheesh – find low cost American made ANYTHINGS!
Screw “low cost!” Unless you find someone who inherited a LET’s ’70s vintage repair shop, you can’t find good (meaning “quality” or “functional”) American-made components at any price.
My kids don’t realize it but the couple thousand NOS valves I’ve got tucked away are an actual investment.
now I’m curious.. I have a nephew that writes the programing for chips… but do they make them in the usa?
one of my day labor jobs was making variable resistors… but they thought 1.65 an hour ( 250 per hour quota to get the buck sixty five hourly was piece count..if all you made was a thousand units then you were paid for four hours even if you were there ten) anyway it was to much money and they moved the production operation into Mexico to save money..

Typically, most large organizations are run by individuals with personality disorders, whose area of expertise is playing off coworkers and the general public one against another, and taking credit for Others achievements and intellectual property. This is true of companies, corporations, partisan gangs, non-profits, and even charities.
It is usually easy to identify head cases in an organization; the first time you hear someone refer to themself as a “leader”, or coworkers as “subordinates”, then you can figure you are dealing with a group B or group C personality disorder.
There is a logic to the way head cases rule. Psychopaths usually only deal with other psychopaths as equals. Best to avoid leadership conferences. Psychopaths like to surround themselves with sociopaths who do their dirty work. Typically the head head case spends most of the day playing off coworkers against each other, and trying to find ways to camouflage self-interest conflicts of interest. Getting the general public and government hacks to do their dirty work for free comes next.
Before you begin publicly making attacks on a third party, ask yourself, why am I doing this ? Are you looking for a pat on the head from some monster or his or her cronies, who is as bad or worse than the individual(s) you are attacking?
Internet trolls tend to be the embodiment of 21st century rule by personality disordered freaks and their office and party machines. The internet has greatly expanded the ability to deceive and manipulate at a distance.
