The Fall of Babel 2.0

While our rise as a technical society has exceeded past efforts, over time it seems destined to fail.  Not everything is ultimately extensible.  Limits to resources is a hard thing for the bacteria in the agar dish to accept.

In this morning’s discussion (other than the ChartPack and a few news items weighing on Future) we’ll explore that continuum of human thinking which is circumscribed by religious fables, education, and then the well-monetized attachment of symbols.

From here Life changes a bit.  For not only are we “processes of doing things” collectors, but we are also the “template pickers.”

A role which defines the future and makes serious human folly semi-predictable.

We’ll start with a few headlines to make the case..

  1. “Where is the Vlad Putin “line in the sand?”

I was talking to my electrician.. ( he is going to fix the issues that I failed to see when we set up our backup gen. old age and tripping on an extension cord and breaking a hip just isn’t acceptable.)
He has said that he has been busier than ever lately because so many are afraid.. he still would like me to get a bigger generator.. but heck those are four grand.. bummer.. gotta work with what I have..

    • I would suggest getting it now if you can – supply issues will become more prominent and prices will skyrocket. Had to get a new roof a few months ago – in a matter of 6 months, the selection/options for colors narrowed to 3 (there were 12), and the price went up every month so by the time I committed, 6 months after initial inquiry, the price had gone up $6,000 (!!!!). Same thing for the HVAC we replaced in January – it could have probably gone another 2 years, but given supply and pricing and labor shortages – went for it this year. Prices for both of these big ticket items was and still is increasing about 10% every month.

    Then there’s this …

    https://www.psypost.org/2022/06/hunger-can-alter-aesthetic-preferences-for-human-bodies-and-other-objects-study-finds-63354

Then consider the working class who have relatively empty grocery carts at the check out and, the heaping full grocery carts of other folks. Well played psychology to keep some people from bitching.

Timing is everything, when it comes to everyone having an empty cart. It’s a slow process … call it Inflation and blame Putin’s tax. Riiight.

    • The food lines of the thirties is alive and well.. @Pathfinder Bob..
The difference is in how it is presented.
In the seventies a months worth of groceries for a household of 4 was 75 a month.. today it’s 4.50 per meal per person..1.00 per snack..
People are buying bulk up foods..like pasta, rice breads..
Ten years ago the stats was 15000 per walmart for people on ebt. Today more than 80 % are on one federal program or another.. I’m not sure about there but here the average per child on ebt is 174.00 per month half of that per adult..there’s different income guideline standards for with children and without..
It’s like the gent I had coffee with last friday.. nice guy.. in a wheelchair had a strike and lost a limb in the Vietnam war.
He is basically homeless.. the good thing is he’s not living in a dumpster like the can man but in a backroom..eats one meal a day from meals on wheels.
They charge him 50 something a month.
Or the elderly that eat catfood.. people don’t get it mostly because it doesn’t affect them..you can only imagine what they go through if you’ve had similar situation..like someone getting 300 a month SS and paying 2 thousand for rent..
My coffee partner was a little shocked with unbelief that someone is willing to give him a little assistance..
Anyway the lines are there. Just not as obvious hidden from view..take that little bit away and it would become more evident right away..

      • I remember my parents going to the store in the mid to late 60’s, at least TEN full brown paper bags of groceries for $100.

That’s why my Dad could afford to pay for all of us, and our Mom stayed home.

Now, I can spend that $100 or more for ONE plastic bag of groceries.

        LOOB: “Loving Others Or Bust.”

Just remember 5 billion a year, minimally, to illegals in tax returns just for being here with kids without having to earn a penny, and billions untold more to fulfill their every need.

We gave over 50 billion to Zelensky in Ukraine to help their further destruction of Ukraine. Then they are going to want more billions to rebuild.

When I read your stories, LOOB, it’s plain as day, that the American citizen is endangered, and where are our elected leaders who give a shit about that? GAS-give a shit.

In our town, they don’t charge for Meals on Wheels, it’s free to the recipient.

      • “In our town, they don’t charge for Meals on Wheels, it’s free to the recipient.”

It use to be that way here as well..@GAS.. it changed a few years ago. Today it’s 4.50 a meal and going up.
One of my kids has to replace the roof on their home that was damaged… the price for materials alone has gone up 5 times what it cost me to replace our roof..
And I have more square footage..
The gent that I am considering letting live in our spare room.. he fell through the cracks.. our country spends billions on people that have never contributed or had any concern for our country our constitution or our way of life.. instead we the people are told to accept and adapt..The ultimate slap besides bringing over illegals by the droves then said he wanted to give each one a half million to get them started.. all while insulting and neglecting the people..what symbol does any of that portray..we print up trillions and no accountability of where it’s being spent.. sending advanced arms and money to a country known as one of the most corrupt and harsh on the planet.
This gent fell th through the cracks.. in my life I’ve been in the unfortunate position of falling through the cracks.. the feeling of helplessness is unbearable.. someone held out their hand to give me a hand up..the gratitude and thankfulness I felt is way beyond measure.. I swore that those hands up would never be in vain.. after a while you can see it..
The waitress with the safety pin holding her shoes together doing the best to fit the image..
        https://youtu.be/P5AkNqLuVgY
It’s probably why I’ll never win the lottery lol lol I’d waste it on doing something that I see worthwhile lol lol lol

    • “when it comes to everyone having an empty cart. ”

There are 2 stages. One is the person that cannot get assistance. Like when we went a year without an income.. we had a car and a home..no children.. so because of that we could sell our car or home and live off of it.. ( doesn’t matter if the bank owns it..) that’s where the reverse mortgage comes in..a company basically sends you a check every month in exchange you give them your home.. when you die your family can pay them the lump sum with interest or hand over the property.. no one leaves with anything.. medical takes it all..
Then there are the ones in the position where they refuse to spend it to feed themselves..
The members of the Cadillac club.. they buy a caddie to show the image lookie see I can afford one but then not drive it lol…I gave serious thought to buying the Bentley a couple years ago just to park it on the street lol lol lol..24 thousand actual miles on a 4 year old car with all the bells and whistles lol lol for 15 grand.. ( they wanted to get the front brake job out if it.. lol lol) cars like that are usually sold to single women.. after they become used cars..they suckered some schmuck in Atlanta to buy it lol lol

      • A older Bentley, 1980’s one, popped up here locally on Craig’s list a couple of weeks back with only 40,000+- miles on it and they were ASKING $11,000. Garage stored it’s entire life … etc. etc.. They probably would have taken LESS.

Shoot for the price of a beater truck you could drive around in a LIKE NEW Bentley … and most people wouldn’t know that the entire body style changed from that traditional boxy carriage look of the older ones to the new sleeker looking ones (I think the older ones are WAY COOLER on the looks front)

Acquaintance LOVED the older Bently’s and Rolls, always drove them … but their mechanicals were SHIT. When he would buy one he would send it to a shop in LA that would rip out all that BAD British shit and put in a new GM engine, transmission, and rewire the entire car so the thing would actually run without breaking down and needing to be towed every few hundred miles (why they got sold and sold CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP, they were NOT reliable transportation).

If I had the money and a garage space to put it shoot I would have bought that Bentley!! (but of course then I would have had to spend another $20,000 having the shop in LA convert it to being an actual drivable car!!)

      • Man, I love your stories and insight.

A lot of those folks visiting food banks are still working and trying to make ends meet. Strange the media eye doesn’t seem to look that way, as they were not very long ago. I think Second Hand Thrift stores are the Walmart of the future.

      • Locally the Salvation Army store is best bet. Buy my jeans when on sale for 25c regular 3.50. Bought Columbo’s trenchcoat last week for 25c. It is new and never been worn, at least by Columbo. On the other hand we have had for years locally two
Re-Stores where you could buy almost anything for nothing and purpose was to prevent rich Nuclear-Power-Employee type locals from filling the landfill. For years I pursuaded clients and friends alike to take items of use and eliminate a dump fee for that JACCUZZI etc.
Had not been to RE-Store for some time till last month. All prices on products were more than local retail. Huh?

      • “Shoot for the price of a beater truck you could drive around in a LIKE NEW Bentley”

Cute story @Stephen 2.. in the early 80’s I bought a 2 tear old Chevy chevette… my neighbor bought a 2 year old Mercedes Benz.. he paid a thousand dollars less than I did.. a little over a year later the Mercedes was in the shelter belt.. I drove the chevette till I had 300 thousand miles on it lol..
The problem with luxury cars is.. a lot like getting a tip out of delivering pizzas in a wealthier neighborhoods.. they got their wealth by not spending..and people that buy them do so the same reason my brother paid a thousand dollars for one of the worst wearing shoes ever..or paid thousands for his suits.. he did it to impress..so when a luxury car becomes used no one wants an old used luxury car..they sell them to young people making ten bucks an hour that want to feel important or to young women so they feel beautiful and a heavier car that would be safer in an accident.
The Bentley and its rotten gas mileage would cost over a hundred today at today’s gas prices to make a walmart run lol..
The car I would like to have is a marathon.. the old checker cab..instead I have a model toy of one..
A good friend had a Shelby cobra.. cherry.. when he got married..his brother and I didn’t want to decorate it.. he would have shot us..his first car and so nice.. we put marbles in his hub caps..he drove away not a sound..2 weeks later he comes back in a chevy cavalier.. what happened..oh I get down the road and through out the back end..
His brother got into lottery and became a multi millionaire.. but didn’t buy him a car.. ran into him and told him dam you know we were the reason he traded the cobra off.. I’d of bought him the car..no need to confess.. he laughed and said..no he learned to live without it.. on his brothers key fob is a small shelby..

      • “Locally the Salvation Army store is best bet.”

EVERYTHING.. goes to the landfill @Zephyr… I got my radial arm saw and a few nailers there.. LOL Department stores throw more out in a day .. I got my blackstone grill as a toss away..they tear down and throw away everything.. if there is going to be a remodel everything is stripped and tossed.. I got my desk chair when they threw away the bank in a remodel.. could have had a couple of really nice copy fax machines.. not even a year old.. the computers.. hard drives taken out and destroyed the rest is tossed out.. the one that always surprised me is a top of the line vacuum cleaner.. they were thrown away like nothing else.. the reason.. the people buying them didn’t want to change the bag LOL LOL LOL LOL I use to get twelve pounds of aluminum out of it and five pounds of copper.. LOL LOL.. I would save them put in new bags and give them to people needing a good vacuum.. the same with bicycles.. I just hauled a bunch up to a prison.. they rebuild them then give them to needy kids.. most of them only need a new inner tube or tires.. but it gives them things to do.. they repaint them put new decals on them buff up the chrome etc.. everyone would give me crap over the pile of bikes LOL .. only one I won’t get rid of.. it is a clown bike.. LOL…
        https://c8.alamy.com/comp/F0RF88/a-circus-performer-rides-a-tiny-clown-bike-during-a-circus-bezercus-F0RF88.jpg

I keep that because I still have little ones that are intimidated by the big bikes.. they will all jump on the clown bike and ride it.. LOL..one day when they are all grown up.. I will pass it on to.. to be given a new home with children..
the mail man was saying one day that he thought he should ride a bike to work.. I said I have just the bike for you LOL took it down and the expression on his face was cherishable..

  3. Similar to the internetz, one language for entire world pop made/makes it for easy for our OVERSEER (s) to Control the “herd”. The overseer and his ilk (male/”created’ annuna warrior race/elohim) were/are very capable telepaths, females lost that ability somehow somewhere.
Emesa lang is the matrtix lang… MuSa = great reptile.

Scattering and mixing up languages was intentionally done to circumvent the vile reptliles (draco “viperheads”) who still ride herd (terrorize) on humans today..see Eagle carrying Earth in Chains logo – space nazi corp facisits (tech 4 slaves)..look close enough you will see “chain links” in the denazification op in in the kraine.

    * nukes – cheap (not much energy needed/used), extremely dirty and noisey. Gotta dispose of them in a “efficient” manner prior to decaing to the point of being flaccid…

6-22-2022 – on the TWO’s , pay attention – scheisse changes, again, today..

    • Which should end late today or mid Thursday – yep, you’re right on it. Then even to down Friday and way down Monday is one roadmap we’re considering

  4. Have you noticed how many YouTube sites have been saying, “Enjoy your summer. Spend time with your family (loved ones) while you can.”
Seems to be a common theme and pretty much identical wording.

    • Yes I noticed it too.

The other meme is the Lake Mead speedboat. The one that sank by the stern and now has grass growing near it where four weeks ago it was under water.

    • That’s what I hear to @Eleanor..
What I hear from the local coffee clutches is that Everyone is basically terrified that what any casual observation is that the car is being driven by Beavis and the butt heads in charge. that dreaded feeling that we are all being misguided and doomed..
We are presently Closer to nuclear war than ever before all while spending so much to assist those know to have deeper links of corruption driving the economy and charging it all to the laborers. Then on top of it sneaking across the borders and supporting millions of illegals from countries that swore they would strike from within by posing as refugees..and even if none of that happens or is true… it’s pretty obvious that the country has a destination of having one of the worst economic disasters in the history of mankind over the sheer idiocy of people that don’t work for a living, but live off of the money thrown at them..
If that isn’t enough to give you nightmares then there’s all those allegations and circumstantial evidence of what could be massive corruption within the whole system.
what i think is being perceived and feared is that all the agencies sworn to serve and protect are suspected of being busy protecting and covering over the issues and neglecting to addressing these issues has caused a general lack of trust and confidence of the whole system with the majority of the citizens..
That’s one reason why I’m making those rare wines.. I at least want to enjoy them before it all unfolds and to give my friends all a chance to enjoy them to.. enjoy what you can now before we all enter what could be hell on earth.
      With Beavis playing the kazoo..
I don’t think any of this is good.. and very few that I know trust anyone in office right now.. on either side.. and no one is objecting to what’s going on its all eerily silent.. instead they smile and say bend over and spread your cheeks your gonna like this one…

      • LOOB
So many great commenters here I could say thank you everyday to many but it would just fill space.
You sunk the Eight-Ball with that post.

      • “…the sheer idiocy of people that don’t work for a living, but live off of the money thrown at them..”

Yeah, LOOB, not having to work to survive does something to a person. As a Condo officer I had to deal with a homeowner who was a ‘trust fund baby’ with a decent fixed income from the trust his parents left him. Didn’t have to work. Amused himself by sticking his nose in everyone else’s business and telling them how it ‘should’ be. Asked what he did in life, he said: “I’m a Politician”. The rest of us owners did everything to keep him OUT of power with the board of the condo.

  5. You call them templates. The programmers call them objects — little boxes of proprietary code that take data in to spit something else out. I’ve been noticing as I get older that I’m having fewer and fewer options as TPTB dictate what I will listen to, see, and buy. Conform or isolate, and good luck with the latter.

    • I see templates as patterns(including flexible operators) rather than objects from OOP. There’s no need to conform to the pattern, but knowing that it’s usually functional makes it easier to conform.

Personally, I refuse to limit myself to the options of listening, seeing, and buying what’s pimped. I certainly won’t buy it because “We Say So”. If I want something, I’ll seek it through every available channel, acceptable or not. If I can’t find it anywhere, I’ll either do without or create it myself. I self-isolate(not from covid) largely by choice, since in my own personal playground I can retain much of the freedom that’s the birthright of each human.

      • “You call them templates. The programmers call them objects — little boxes of proprietary code…”

We live in a world of symbols @NM Mike….
It’s like my sibling that gave me those buttfugly uncomfortable shoes and his hand tailored suits..
We visited once and I brought up the you do realize it’s just a symbol..he said yes.. it was like the briefcase he carried.. with a peanut butter sandwich in it..
I also knew that he sent them to me to allow me to dress for success. Unfortunately Unfortunately it wouldn’t make any difference.. I had been thrown under the bus by an employer gambling on the stock market and from medical expenses beyond my control..
We are programmed for control that your labor or goods hasn’t any value if you don’t have a piece of paper..it only has value if that paper or number is involved..
You hear about the red shoe ,black eye, the masonic, bilderberg, etc..
All designed to control and direct the population..all deception to control.
In my closet is an old Saber of my grandfathers..he was high up in the masonic order of the Templar knights .. I never got to know him but have been told that he believed in righteousness..that back in the day that was how neighborhoods got tigether..
In my church we have the order of the Melchizedek..what’s funny is just how many kids today actually know what the Melchizedek priesthood means.. or what the position had in history..
An old friend had the congressional medal. He wore bunny slippers to work lol.. instead of buttfugly uncomfortable shoes.. bought and saved his wife when looking for a housekeeper fell in love got married and insisted she go to school and search her passion.. she did and became one of two hundred women in the who’s eho book of most influential female doctors of the world.. ( she doesn’t know or the kids know I know this part of the story) when I asked him..he said it was originally just to hire a housekeeper.. then they became friend and got married.. the education was doing the right thing…that’s what we need as an administration. Someone doing the right thing..
I believe that DJT will go down in history as doing more with the least amount of help.. and Brandon will go down as destroying more with full backing

    • Actually, “electrochemical” batteries.

Why just yesterday, I was wondering about all that.

Upping my intake of magnesium, potassium and pure water. There’s other good stuff as well, to increase the body’s power grid but those 3 I mentioned were highlighted.

      • Bob, when it comes to potassium, be careful. Too much as a supplement will affect one’s heart rhythm by beginning PVC’s. These are premature ventricular contractions. Heartbeat gets flakey and feels like you are not well.
One could easily mistake them for a heart attack. I also read that a big shot of potassium is administered to those sentenced to die by injection to interrupt the heartbeat prior to death…

  6. Yeah, yeah, we all need water, food, shelter, etc, etc. (George’s 7 Systems) Granted. And we’ve all made our priority choices and done what we’ve done; and some have chosen wisely, and some not so much. “It” will play out as it does, and we’ll see what (and who) is left to rebuild with. Meantime one of the most important needs is to know just what the hell is going on. Intel. Since we’ll probably all be isolating to one degree or another, “knowing” probably means “communications,” or at least the ability to HEAR communications. (Speaking is useful, but less critical to understanding The Situation. Observing is often quite enough.)

Best choice? Probably a good AM / FM / Shortwave radio. Additionally, the “2-meter” ham band would be great to kibitz on the local guys — and hams are often quite usefully knowledgeable. (True, some are moronic blowhards, but they’re rare enough.) The best intel is usually about close-by things, because the near things will affect you more, and faster, than things far away.

I predict shortwave will become more important in hard times to come, as it indeed once was. It is difficult to block it, or see just who is listening. In an “Internet Down” world, basic radio will be crucial.

Now: how many batteries you got? A years’ worth? probably not. You need steady, long term power, but the good news is, a couple of small-ish radios won’t need a lot of juice. Going solar is easy enough for this need. One or two square yards (meters) of panel will run a couple of radios. Add a decent solar controller-charger and a car battery, and you’re good 24-7. Get radios that run on 12 volts, and can also be charged off 12 volts, for simplicity.

Such a modest “stone-age” solar rig won’t run your refrigerator, but it’s quick and cheap to do to run your radios. Keep it VERY simple at first, and ramp it up over time as seems appropriate. (KNOW just how much energy your radios actually need in order to buy it all right.)
Amazon has everything you need. Keep it simple.

Radios with so-called “digital” frequency display dials (readouts) will serve you much better than so-called “slide-rule” moving pointer dials for accurate finding and repeating finding specific stations.
Otherwise, especially if you’re a beginner, get simple radios with few features. Many features also drives up the power requirement and reduces the duration when on battery.

    A) AM / FM / Shortwave receiver
    B) a separate “2-meter”band radio.
..will make a good package. Rigs that do it all in one device cost more, and often draw more energy.

    For (A) budget $70 to $150.
For (B) decent cheapies are around $50 or less.
For the small stone-age solar rig, figure somewhere around $200 for everything. Less, if you’re resourceful.

Old classic vacuum tube radios are cool and fun, but need far too much energy.

Get going: Tempis is fugiting like crazy.

7.299 by day, 3.999 by night.

    • On the other side of the microphone think pirate radio, which still often happens just below the 40m band. Someone’s going to have to get news out to those willing to listen. Although easily tracked with those who have the resources, a guerrilla station can be in and out in a heartbeat, with nothing but a set of tire tracks and a wire left behind…

    • William…I have a couple of the Yaesu FT101 variations I bought over the last 10 years. Never powered up since I know zero about shortwave. Both are now sitting at an electric repair shop in central TX being checked out by an expert. DIY antenna research ongoing now.
Do these radios cover your checklist for good listener units?
(I have plenty of solar panels, also stored away)

      • Venerable radio FT-101
Came in three versions the main difference was the FT-101-e had the speech processor
Fine radios – solid state except for the 12BY7 driver and the two final tubes.
        Great radios.
The original north american release was the FT-101B – which had white rocker switches.
The Fox Tango group on the web has a million mods for these – much recommended is the JFET modi which picks up the sensitivity a bit, too.

  7. Tennessee Valley Authority rhyme on deck.

“This act of May 18, 1933, created the Tennessee Valley Authority to oversee the construction of dams to control flooding, improve navigation, and create cheap electric power in the Tennessee Valley basin.”

NASA Announces Artemis Concept Awards for Nuclear Power on Moon

NASA and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) are working together to advance space nuclear technologies. The agencies have selected three design concept proposals for a fission surface power system design that could be ready to launch by the end of the decade for a demonstration on the Moon. This technology would benefit future exploration under the Artemis umbrella.

The contracts, to be awarded through the DOE’s Idaho National Laboratory, are each valued at approximately $5 million. The contracts fund the development of initial design concepts for a 40-kilowatt class fission power system planned to last at least 10 years in the lunar environment.

  8. Folks patting Joe Manchin on the back for saying, “Build Back Better Is Gone.”

    https://youtu.be/VhLoLVp1pbQ

Be more truthful if he said, “Build Back Better Was Just A Figment Of The Imagination.” aka: just a slogan.

But feel what ever your intellect allows.

  9. Thanks for the additional frames of reference.

As the clock strikes high noon let’s hop aboard that swirling ship like byrds and get out to lunch with DJ Ure dishing up some “Mr. Tambourine Man” cymbals.

  10. “A very wise subscriber asked if this couldn’t resolve to the upside. And the answer is “Of course!” Which is why we are off the table going into this period.”

“If it’s not a 1-2-3-4-5 – and an A-B-C then a massive move higher could come.”

Now what if it is a 1-2-3-4-5 ALL THE WAY from the bottom of the 1929 crash? That would mean an ABC down right now, putting us in the A wave down with likely completion July/Oct 2023, then a B wave up to 2025, then a massive C wave down to ~2028…

Food for thought, and these waves down do not look motive.

As for the upside, yeah, it’s possible. We had a small double bottom in the S&P500 on Friday and turned up, but the last wave down looks like it needs a 4th up (we’re in it) then a 5th down. There’s also the issue of very nasty astrology coming up later in the year (and some bumps next month), so I doubt we go very far.

The second USA Pluto return is in July, the third in December.
In the fall, 7 planets go retrograde and we get the third Saturn/Uranus square (the first was end of 2021). Those are quite nasty, responsible for the 1929 crash. Let us not forget the N Node of the Moon in Taurus (also 1929) which has been known to slow things down. It doesn’t leave until mid 2023, but then Venus Retrograde comes right after it. One of the reasons I think we ain’t out of this until Oct 2023.

      • “We’ll regress to the early 1800s”

        Or… back to the stoneage….
Oh on an interesting note. There have been studies done on ancient structures around the area of the tower of babble showed that blocks were weakened because of the severe weather changes and lack of tempering the blocks before baking them..

  11. Reality Check:

Russia’s ONLY direct ocean ports are those on the Artic Sea, and the Pacific Ocean.

Murmansk is Russia’s principal port on the Artic Sea (Gulf of Finland), located to the east of it’s border with Finland (it is naturally ice free due to the Gulf Stream and operational year round), and Vostochmy (terminus of the Trans Siberian RR) and Vladivostok are it’s principal ones on the Pacific Ocean.

All other major Russian ports, St. Petersburg, Ust-Luga, Primorsk, and Kaliningrad on the Baltic (Kaliningrad is the smallest of those on the Baltic only processing 1/7 th amount of cargo of St. Petersburg), and the various ports on the Black Sea, Novorossiysk the biggest in Russia in terms of freight moved, need to go through CHOKE POINTS in order to reach the open ocean.

For the Black Sea that choke point is the Straits at Instanbul and the waterway coming up from the Aegean Sea to it, and for the Baltic Sea that choke point is the Danish Straits. Both of those MAJOR choke points have had road /rail connections built over or under them (or both) so as to provide for hard land connections to the rest of Europe from the other side. Sweden being connected to Denmark at the entrance to the Balic Sea and Asian Instanbul being connected to European Instanbul at the entrance to the Black Sea.

In a major War one must assume that all of the Russian ports that do not have direct ocean access will be cut off from the world’s oceans because of the choke point issues. That is why Russia bases most of it’s submarine fleet at Murmansk and Vladivostok, both year round ice free ports.

Russia with it’s internal rail connections, combined with it’s extensive river and canal systems which even connect the Caspian Sea to the oceans via the Black Sea and connect the Artic and Baltic Seas to the Black Sea, has not been as interested in being a major sea faring nation as the US has. Much of what Russia ships out or receives can be sent by rail links if needed (at least until the sanctions were imposed) though at a somewhat higher cost.

  12. “Biden to call for 3-month suspension of gas and diesel taxes. Which to us has the ugly smell of an election-year payoff to voters”

    It is.

A 3% discount is meaningless, especially since (based on the dollar degradation which has already occurred) it’ll be 2% by Election Day. It amounts to getting an extra half-gallon when you fill your tank from empty.

But its good P.R. for the mentally-maladroit and can be endlessly spun by the Administration.

    • You know … IF… he put price regulations back on essentials.. that would make a difference.. what’s funny is some countries in Europe are considering doing just that..
In the US.. he would have to decide.. just who he is representing.. the money machine or the people..That is really one tough decision for someone on the DC private money trough list for so many years..

      • Price controls always cause shortages, because once a manufacturer or retailer begins to lose money on a product, that product, by definition, becomes “unprofitable.” Nobody can make or sell unprofitable products and remain in business, so either the product goes away, or the business goes away.

The IIC (idiot in charge) is making noises like he’s going to regulate motor fuels. If he does, Mark will be the only one of George’s posters who’s driving, and those who’ve prepped will be the only ones who are eating, because there won’t be diesel for bigrigs or buses, either.

Exxon and BP don’t care whether they sell petrol in the U.S. or not. They’re making far greater profits, selling solar systems in Holland and Austria, than selling motor fuels here. The rise in pump price is caused by the Biden Administration’s manipulations of our currency, not price hikes.

      • “IF… he put price regulations back on essentials”

Then “essentials” would cease to be available.

      • Price regulations will lead to shortages. If it’s uneconomic for someone to sell something, they’ll keep it for themselves, or sell it on the black or gray markets. The privileged and connected will get the goodies.

Without price regulations, things may be unacceptably expensive, but they are likely to be available to those willing to pay. People will vote with their wallets. I fail to see how such regulations would help the Brandon crowd at all.

I believe that Brandon and friends are in a pretty precarious and interesting position..
The old shizt or get off the pot scenario.. what to do..
If they place price regulations for the people to stabilize this shizt show they created .. they undercut the people giving them money and power.. if they don’t then the population dumps them and their party down the drain..
The justice department and their double standards of law has already lost the confidence of the people to be justified in their decisions.i believe that It’s the fall of Rome happening all over again..

  13. Heat dome? What heat dome? What drought? That’s so leftover from Spring! It’s 60 degrees here and pouring like crazy! I’m concerned that the mud will prevent any outside activity at all!

Meanwhile, thinking soberly of mushrooms, I’m a bit concerned about a friend who’s planned and paid for an Irish vacation in October.

  14. “Where is the Vlad Putin ‘line in the sand?’ In fact, there’s some concern that NATO has already crossed the Putin red line as Moscow’s response to Lithuania over transit ban won’t be only diplomatic -official.”

I’m trying to figure out what’s going on here. I was under the impression Russia had an 80km (or so) wide “easement” along the Polish, Lithuanian, and Belarusian borders — and WTH has gotten in to the Lithuanians? They’re reminding me of a bratty coward, who kicks the neighborhood tough guy when he’s down — That kid never considers that the tough guy will not be down forever.
    _______

“State Department warns Russia: Attack on Lithuania is attack on US.”

If I were Putin or Lavrov I would be having Gerasimov plan out a massive nuclear first strike, right now, to obliterate our grid, sat network, every C&C and military installation and known fixed missile silo, D.C., Langley, and Wilmington. No need to nuke any city — how long would American city dwellers (including Canada and most of Mexico) last with no food, water, sewage, transportation, or air conditioning?

  15. Today”s PN issue does offer reflective moments. Apparently the kaleidoscope was patented 205 years ago by a Scot. Mr. Fraim definitely filters cacophonies of kaleidophonic noise into an intelligent stream. By chance the Queen, also herself a synesthete, dropped some rhymes on the masses this past ‘Teenth. Let’s join DJ Ure on the quay in the renaissance music room with tidal rolls to the swells of “Break My Soul” feat. Beyoncé. Even Mrs. Obama tweeted that it “is the song we all need right now”.

  16. The Ukraine war response is fast becoming Biden’s second blunder

The precipitous and chaotic American abandonment of Afghanistan was a great shock to the NATO alliance, raising grave doubts about the judgment, stability and reliability of the U.S. as leader of the free world. Now, in the rapidly changing landscape of the Ukraine war, we are seeing ominous signs that the U.S. may be leading NATO in the direction of an even worse strategic humiliation — one that can result in a dramatic reconfiguration of the world’s geopolitical structure.

  17. Attorney General Intervenes After Bill Gates Buys A Massive Amount Of Farmland In North Dakota

The office of the Attorney General of North Dakota sent a letter Tuesday asking Red River Trust, a group with ties to billionaire Bill Gates, to prove the company’s use of the land does not violate the state’s Corporate Farming Laws.

The trust had acquired six parcels of land in Pembina County.

  18. SpaceX Breaks Two Major Records After Latest Flight in What Elon Musk Calls a ‘Flawless’ Mission

Last Friday, SpaceX launched three rockets in the span of 36 hours. The impressive feat — most flights are spaced out at least a full day apart, with many averaging between five and seven days — made it the fastest three-flight series for orbital rockets in the history of space exploration.
