A quick click on Xinhua looks very much “normal” today. China is meeting with the Europeans and buttering them up. The hand shakes (mitt wobbling) is front and center. Then the usual pap about this-n-that’s. But normal is the sales pitch on this, the weekend before chunyun (Spring Festival) which rolls next week.
But how stable is China right now? Depends who you listen to. This post on X is typical. Speaking of 70-minute gun battles as an anti-Xi coup is alleged to be underway. Involving on one side Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhen while on the other, chief mitt wobbler Xi doing lots of stand ups with visiting foreign nationals.
Meanwhile, our inclination is to listen to what’s hinted by Lingling Wei who wrote this week about From Mao to Xi: The Perils of Absolute Power. Which rehashes the fallout between Mao Zedong and Lin Biao back in the day.
Despite the (typically) frantic reports on social media, we’re inclined to sit back and chill. China’s got a party week (a kind of Party’s party, come to think of it). Our only advice to those who might be suspected of being Zhang Youxia supporters? Don’t answer the door at strange hours without a 9 mm in hand.

There’s most of a chapter in my book Mind Amplifiers about how a great deal of a person’s life depends on what they choose to name themselves. With my 77th birthday in spitting distance (I can spit 3-weeks into the future) I am asking again what should my name be for this next part of the ride.
One reason to change your name (or, at least what you and others call you) is it enables you to shake off back juju from earlier lives under different names, monikers, handles, and suchwise.
Everyone knows Barbi Benton was born with a different name, as was Marilynn Monroe and many others (including John Wayne). What you are called is critical to how your world around you is called into existence. (You need to read Calling Things That Are Not.)
Fact is, I got deeply into the “name calling” idea and found even The Mob had some famous name-changers.

Ordinarily post-parsimonous Lt. Gen. Budanov, head of the presidential office of the Ukraine, has pulled the pin on a second commemorative moment this week. Today he reminds us of the outnumbered Ukrainian Peoples Army stand against a Russian force on January 29, 1918 at the Battle of Kruty (“Abrupt Slopes/Bends/Turns”). The battle took place near the Kruty railroad station on the way to Kyiv. Public historical record of certain Ukrainian student veterans of the Battle of Kruty event also names their alleged service in the nazi Waffen-SS “Galicia” Division formed in 1943.
Wikipedia’s “Battle of Kruty” page received 18 edits yesterday from self-declared Ukrainian editor ‘Skoropadsky’. Hetman of All Ukraine Pavlo Skoropadsky (“meteoric rise and fall”) ruled from April to December 1918, and subsequently took up exile in Germany. He had the misfortune to be wounded in an Allied bombing raid on Plattling railroad station close to Regensburg, Bavaria on April 16, 1945. He passed away 10 days later at nearby Metten Abbey founded in 766 ad by the Benedictines. Outside Regensburg stands the Walhalla (Norse:”Valhalla”) monument commemorating famous German figures of the past 2,000 years.

You can always give Ureself a new nickname, but don’t screw with your identity. That has all manner of legal ramifications. You don’t need the surname for most encounters. But remember, “The Fonz” has been taken already.
I’m not sure that picking out a new name now would follow you to your next Venue, and would constitute jumping the gun. Sounds like a here-and-now type of move.
I had a nickname I went by as a kid at times, that I have never used as an adult. I consider dusting it off again, periodically, but haven’t.
One of my lawyers told me a decade or so ago` to legally change my name to get the vigilantes off my @ss, but I had serious doubts that that would work, and it would have left me sucking wind, professionally speaking. I did seriously consider changing my name to Patel at one point, just to get interviews. Instead, I just got better at handling run of the mill evil stalksters and their idiot minions.
If a liar wants to hurt you, then they will make up new lies to counter your moves. Generally speaking, no one gives a sh!t, and you are mostly on your own, with no one coming to help, unless someone makes a payoff, and I’m not paying. Learning to set the ego aside, and do what is necessary to save yourself is a learned reaction to stress; it does not come naturally for most. I have had a lot of practice in humility in the face of pure serial evil. Patience and ethical lawyers are the preferred route for paybacks. I’m working that meme at the present, but I am on the watch for guys with compressed air tanks.

Trump Orders New Tariffs on Any Nations Selling Oil to Cuba
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Jan. 29 that threatens to impose new tariffs on any country that “directly or indirectly provides oil to Cuba.” “I find that the policies, practices, and actions of the Government of Cuba constitute an unusual and extraordinary threat, which has its source in whole or substantial part outside the United States, to the national security and foreign policy of the United States,” the executive order reads.
The president’s order accuses the Cuban regime of aligning itself with Russia, China, Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah and says that opposing the Caribbean nation is essential for U.S. national security.
