Stars to Steer By

Usually, when markets get into a fugue they really pop once the logjam breaks.  We get the feeling, looking at calendars and news flows, like “June could be a biggie.”

So we’ll just put on the Carnac the Magnificent headgear and size up next week for you…

    feat: gotta a match, bro?

    Folks,
Summer forest fire season is a big business in Manitoba. There aren’t many ways for unemployed individuals residing on First Nations reservations to earn an honest dollar. Obtaining forest firefighting qualifications is not an uncommon undertaking for locals. This way they can be prepared for well-paid activation to attend a fire scene should such an event occur.

As chance would it, this second spate of fires has emerged perhaps not unlike the first of a few weeks back. Breakouts within reasonable distances of human settlements may arguably occur with greater than random frequency.

Here is a link to the provincial forest fire map from the department of “Natural Resources and Indigenous Futures” for the season thus far. Tick off the box also to see those fires extinguished, and your own anecdotal observation may bring dawning light that virtually all are human caused.

    https://www.gov.mb.ca/conservation_fire/Fire-Maps/fireview/fireview.html

    • J, Your own dawning light might notice how anomalous recent conditions have become, due to human induced climate change:
‘A prolonged period of unusually warm and dry conditions helped to intensify this week’s fires, continuing a trend worsened by climate change. The fire seasons of 2023 and 2024 were the worst two years in Canadian history. In June 2023, wildfire smoke transported southward from Canada ‘
      https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/may/30/canada-wildfires-air-quality

      • “due to human induced climate change:”

‘Human Induced’… got some irrefutable proof of that??
Climate has been changing since long before humans arrived.

      • Dear c,

We have rural open fire burn bans here by law from April to October unless by permit through a conservation officer. I am going to save you the bother of clicking on my posted link above. It details 106 forest fire events between April 12 and May 27. If my counting is any bit accurate, the province has reported via the above link that 4 were due natural causes, 4 are under investigation, and 98 were caused by humans.

Here is another link. Its from the RCMP with update regarding the apprehension of two firebugs. They are unresponsive to usual insecticide protocols:

I feel badly that rogue elements of academia may have planted viral seeds of misinformation in your thoughts. Hopefully my words can offer some aid towards your speedy recuperation.

      • Sadly.. IF… we quit using all carbon today right now..the CO2 would continue to climb for what is it fifty to a hundred years..

I could goon and on about studies they all say the same thing.. its the business model that’s at fault.. our concerns over big buck billies pocket pool games rather than national security or turning the tide.. California dreamers can’t focus on it because of big buck billies pocket pool numbers aquisition. the same reason why our infrastructure is failing and our grid weak and vulnerable.
we humans consume fifty five acres a minute in urban expansion world wide.. we clear cut seven thousand trees for the same reason..
since I was in high school and first learned about solar technology I have been ranting hand out grid tie solar kits to every homeowner will I g to have one installed along with solar towers at every substation at some point the systems that use coal natural gas will be able to be retired. .greenscaping cities to reclaim lost cropland..putting CO2 filter systems using activated clay..on every street lamp post..each filter would take The place of what a hundred trees or more.. legalize cannabis growth so that a more economically sound building material..not counting the tens of thousands of other uses..
build air wells in acid regions where aquifers are running dry.. I forget what year it was when the population of the earth overtook the amount of food that could sustain it adequately. instead of doing anything to deal with this we instead want billies pockets full his eyes bloodshot from eye strain while watching numbers climbing on a computer screen.
we cannot stop this..embrace the old technology and implement the new .. eventually you replace the old with the new..just like inconsistent light bulbs.. it would be cheaper to integrate the new with the old.. they could even put shut off switches to control the excess.. what it won’t do is be conducive with the business model of stuffing big buck billies pocket books with numbers. that I am sure is what’s playing havoc with the tariffs.. if the administration went after the greed mongers he would essentially be targeting the business models of big buck billies high seven and eight digit icomes..so he has to blanket the whole spectrum not just the guilty.. putting more stress on the laboring and industrial section.
going after just the greedy would be similar to smacking ones finger with a hammer.
people bitching and complaining about climate change are also not willing to embrace the changes needed.. and they won’t until it becomes evident that it will effect their lives personally..all this warring and fighting is only to promote the business models of the ones that are losing their gains..
for us doing away today won’t make a difference.. any changes now won’t be felt until our great great great grandkids days and we will all be long gone.
we ourselves live in a country that has realtreasure..fields of green.. crops and food production..the real gold is corn and wheat and oats.. not little chunks of metal or paper printed on green ink..
of course this is just my opinion and no one cares more about my opinions than me..lol

        • “Sadly.. IF… we quit using all carbon today right now..the CO2 would continue to climb for what is it fifty to a hundred years..”

I assume you said “sadly” because it needs to rise for several thousand years, to get Earth’s atmosphere back to a normal CO2 level…?

        • What part of “firebug” did you miss? The majority of the fires were set by arsonists…

  2. great work as usual . well worth it indeed . but only opinion . time and price are convergent in 200 day ma and 85 day ma . anyway risk / reward and a bottom in bonds support rational thoughts . yields have a razor edge which is chopping the top . my positions are always work in progress , but now its leisure time, enough work

  3. Pitching Woo …

“… Were the likes of Roddenberry, Asimov and Clarke so successful because of government “wind” helping to fill their sails? …”

Well done to weave in ample nautical banter (OBSCON – obligatory sailing content). Government should be restricted to rights and obligations specifically given and nothing more. SciFi continues to populate every day life where once crazy concepts were Jetsons and Lost in Space. Fortunately, the Galaxy is a big place.

Fires. It’s _that_ season again? Nope. I refuse to play along. You can maximize non intervention -or- you can reduce fire impact on modern man. Pick one. Restore reasonable logging to harvest timber and accept firebreak logging roads. Or not. It’s binary. Somehow we fret about man’s influence on the universe yet ignore causal relationships here on Earth?

Code crackers. Someone recently posted a query in comments asking about breaking into a PC. Any computer can be opened by those with magic software but it’s not an off-the-rack product. I once watched a super sleuth Computer bud hack my own Enterprise level PC. He booted to a cracker disk and, when cursoring over the password field box … the PW magically appeared. It was freaky / scary (take your pick).

Any PP (Private Pilots) here besides George? Planes are spinning up hereabouts word-slinger. Some have a distinctive rap-rap-rap oldster engine and rounded wing tips. Old birds. A way cool WW2 Fighter went over at treetop level last week when Mrs. E was in the front yard. She was gushing about the sound (big Rolls Royce Merlin possibly in a Spitfire).

A good bud, sailor / pilot flew for Corporate Bigs out of Elkhart, IN back when a Lear Jet was top of the heap in private rocketships. He did a few flyovers which, weren’t strictly FAA compliant and said he could buzz anywhere once but … never went back. On the second pass some busybody might catch his tail numbers.

Local Woo. It feels like a fall football day here. Sigh. Back to long pants? Nah.

    Have a fine weekend,
    Egor

ps – like the mid-line in your trend channels on Aggregate Index (Nov 2021 to present).

      • Lol lol lol.. yes I will make the small bird food potato pellets then I could use mashed potatoes..then I can herb them up anyway I want then add potato starch to thicken it..either freeze dry it or just dehydration.. kind of like making a cereal like corn flakes or wheat flakes.. easy stuff to do…I could just do potato buds then get the potato starch out of the water you boil the potatoes in.
I like onion garlic potatoes.. they won’t be wasted..

    • Only one thing to do GranPa..

PVC pipes, pipe dope, ignition trigger from old charbroil grill, can of hair spray = Potato Gun.

Ure mini me gonna luv shooting spuds at bad guys and Ninja’s hiding out around Ure house.

  4. ” I once watched a super sleuth Computer bud hack my own Enterprise level PC. ”

Did you can Captain Kirk to complain?

  5. ” Planes are spinning up hereabouts word-slinger. Some have a distinctive rap-rap-rap oldster engine and rounded wing tips. Old birds.”

Yep. Early prep for Oshkosh, where you’ll be able to see everything from early 1900s to 2025 and beyond. Lots of round engines and wingtips. I’ve been to Oshkosh twice, 2004 and 2009. Every pilot’s dream, to walk among history.

As an avid airplane driver since 1957, I love the sound of those old radials and the whine of the Merlins. Heck, I even like the high-pitched scream of Rotax 2-strokes.

    • I have lived 10 minutes from Wittman field for the past 35 years. Things really get moving here the first couple of weeks in June. Temporary exhibit buildings, displays, communications, etc. are already well underway. Been a PP since 91. Definitely like a kid in a candy store for me. I certainly encourage anyone who has not ever been here to give it some serious thought. accommodations can be hard to come by. Message me if your interested and I’m sure I can give you a steer.

    • CAF North is HQ’d in Huntington, Indiana. They’d be flyin’ their B-17, 24, 26, and a bunch of fighter and pursuit planes to Oshkosh and probably exercising them all over Michiana, along the way…

  6. I can’t wait to read your new one, but I’ve never seen a government tail wind for any of my Science Fiction books. Just sayin. Life ain’t fair…

  7. Oh baby is it getting hot in the ME hottub.
    – Iran airspace been closed .
israHELL readies bunkers, more ambulances put on commission, statement from Iran military of Intent.

Supposedly not a drill – ops supposedly kick off early June 1st. With whopper of geomagmetic storm in next 48hrs – da window be open as eyes in the sky will be a blinking, like the red lights that be chasing that hod rod Lincoln.

    • re: “A Tale of Two Cities”, 1859
      feat: 70 ad to 2025

      Folks,
Details surrounding the Paris riots which started yesterday offer interesting food for thought. As an aside, it would appear that the Roman Coliseum is built over Nero’s lake, and was financed by Rome’s plundering of the Second Temple of Jerusalem in 70 ad. The Coliseum may have been the first “bread and circuses” program for the masses.

The current Paris riot unrest has been talked about in msm as following an away soccer game victory by Paris Sainte-Germain (PSG). The team plays home games at Parc des Princes situated on what was Royal parkland before the French Revolution. Metro station naming follows the old walls of Paris. Access to Parc des Prince is from St. Cloud station adjacent to Michelangelo Street (who painted the Sistine Chapel with the Second Coming and the Last Judgement). St. Cloud station is named after St. Clodoald, a patron saint of France from the 6th century. Previously the town had been known as Novigentum (‘New People’). The saint was a grandson of King Clovis I (‘famous warrior’), King of Franks, who is credited with taking steps towards France becoming a nation. Parc des Prince has a second Metro station which is a ghost stop, Moliter (‘Miller’) station. No passengers can get on or off at Moliter. As an aside, the stadium is in the 16th district. Curiously the area was set to be designated as 13th in 1859, but residents resisted so it became part of the 16th.

The PSG soccer club majority owned by the investment arm of the Emir of Qatar who has assigned a Qatari to run the club. A minority share is held by a Dallas, USA sports industry private equity firm.

As chance would have it, a French sports channel owned by a Franco-Israeli billionaire and the Sheikh of Abu Dhabi aired an investigative television program last week. Apparently allegations of fraud were raised against Qatari management of PSG. It seems that the allegations were perhaps not well received in Qatar.

Paris rioting continues into a second day. Legions of fans have been dispatched? Ghostly millstone wheels are turning?

  8. George – glad you’re on the mend from the latest ‘go round’ with your endodontist. Rotten stuff that. I commiserate with your tooth problems, I’ve been struggling with them since I was sixteen when I took a liking to chewing Juicy Fruit gum whenever I wasn’t in school.

On another issue – I read the article you recommended this morning, “Scientists Just Debunked The Biggest Myth About Autism Communication”, in relation to studying telepathy in the Woo world. Maybe I”m too cynical, but the article seemed intended to help ‘normalize” autism, in the same way other mental illnesses like gender re-assignment treatment in children, transgenderism and pedophilia have been portrayed by the wokesters and social justice engineers as normal variants within the spectrum of behaviors.

The high functioning autistic people used in the study were described as having a different ‘neurotype’ than non-autistic individuals. Again, being cynical, this implies to me an effort to obfuscate the fact that autism results from pathology to the brain probably caused by toxins injected (probably vaccines) into young children..

This article glosses over the horrific tragedy of autism where most autistic adults are not independently functiuonal and will require care the rest of their lives. The rates of autism in US children are staggeringly high – in California, the most vaccinated state in the union, 1 of every 12 boys born are diagnosed with autism. This is outrageous. Our only hope is that RFK Jr will reveal the real cause(s) of autism by September, as he’s promised.

    • Not to help the “Famous Mikey” to freak the fuck out, but this whole “thing” with vaccines raises a risk that was covered in a Twilight Zone episode years ago. Imagine living in a world where people are able to use vaccines on their young in order to make them mental and physical clones. Go to your Twilihgt Zone library, says my AI stack
The Twilight Zone episode you’re referring to is “Eye of the Beholder” (Season 2, Episode 6, aired November 11, 1960). In this iconic episode, a woman named Janet Tyler, whose face is bandaged, awaits the results of a surgical procedure to correct her disfigurement in a society that enforces strict conformity to a standard of beauty. She is desperate to look “normal” and avoid being ostracized, but the doctors and nurses, whose faces are initially hidden, express doubt about the surgery’s success. The twist, revealed in a masterful sequence, is that Janet’s face is beautiful by our standards, while the people around her—deemed “normal” in this alternate world—have grotesque, pig-like features. When the surgery fails to make her conform, she is exiled to live among others like her, highlighting the subjective nature of beauty and the cruelty of societal norms.

Written by Rod Serling and directed by Douglas Heyes, the episode uses stark lighting, shadows, and delayed reveals to build suspense and emphasize its message. It critiques conformity, prejudice, and the arbitrary standards that define acceptance, making it one of the most memorable and thought-provoking episodes of the series. The performances, particularly by Maxine Stuart (as Janet under bandages) and Donna Douglas (as the revealed Janet), amplify the emotional weight, while the dystopian setting underscores Serling’s warning about the dangers of a society that punishes difference.

  9. A little help, please, Herr Professor Doctor Ure.
Some time back, I collected and listed here all the self-confessed ham radio guys by UrbSurv screen name.

The computator I had that on died horribly two weeks ago, and that list was one of the very few docs I wasn’t able to recover.

Well past time anyway to add and update it, me thinks. Can you help? do you have that old list, by any chance? (otherwise, I’ll just start over with a fresh inquiry…)

(Will list by UrbSurv Screen name: NOT by callsign.)

  11. I was curious about the LDS community.. the thought came after I visited the colony..the colony represented or appeared like a Norman Rockwell community ..no stress or collapse..then walking in to class and seeing the trials and tribulations of the local LDS community members.. so I asked chat gpt. since very little is known of why the south American levites clan was dispersed ..the required the LDS community to be learned.. what caused it.. south America is filled with vast cities and temples.. so what caused the levites clan with Moses to be dispersed..

(“The Levites’ fate mirrors how civilizations adapt—or fail to adapt—when faced with war and environmental challenges.the Levites’ decline was partly due to their reliance on an established system that suddenly ceased to exist. Unlike other tribes who had land allocations, the Levites depended entirely on tithes and Temple service. When the Temple was destroyed and the Jewish people were scattered, they had no infrastructure in place to sustain themselves outside of their priestly duties. Had they built stronger communal or economic foundations outside of their religious role, they might have retained a clearer tribal identity. Instead, they blended into broader Jewish society, adapting but losing their distinct position. It’s a striking example of how societies that depend on centralized institutions can struggle when those pillars collapse.”)
