ShopTalk Sunday: Complexities of Collapse

I’m (wild-ass) guessing son G2 will be back on homestead lands before Christmas.  Not that making a boatload of money up north isn’t grand fun, but the fact is the Old Man can’t figure out how his assignment will keep from getting shut down when the world hits the financial skids in the next couple of months. (If not weeks.)

“Dad, you worry too much.  I’m not going to live like every day could be a disaster….”

In defense of my position, I have been right (most times) in the long haul.  If you try to pin me down to an exact minute (or even year, sometimes) you’ll win.  But the outcome is never in doubt.

Fathers, Sons, Complexity

To his credit, G2 is a minimalist.  And it makes him crazy that our life on the ranch seems so chaotic to him. Zillions of mixed tasks and apparent confusion visually.

I’ve been working up a PowerPoint for him, however that should explain a LOT.

On his plate, he’s got four major task groupings:

  • Being a professional safety/medic/fire incident management sort.
  • And except for bunking gear and medical kits, this is not real “space intensive” stuff.
  • A computer, scanner, printer, and for hobby space, a skydiving 170 jumping rig.
  • OK, and a few long (and short) guns for out on the home range.

Parts Counts:  Dad’s World has more moving parts to it:

  • There’re two significant websites.
  • Since there are subscribers, toss in redundant backup, accounting and site access software, tax compliance (oh boy) and all the rigmarole that comes with that life. Scanners, updates, backups…
  • Ham radio isn’t a hobby, per se.  It’s a multi-part affliction
    • With an electronics bench
    • With antenna construction and design – big tower…
    • And assortment of delightful radios to work on the air with.
  • To support the office there’s a reasonably serious solar power center.  Which means batteries, wiring, spare boards for inverters, binders for system specs, cogeneration agreement, and even little space-eaters you don’t think about normally:  Battery watering with the right kind of water, maintenance logs, test equipment, and suchwise.
  • Who has the tools to keep up the Gun Range??? Power equipment rules.
  • This is also a tree farm.  Which means a pickup truck and a tractor, assorted chain saws, safety gear, ear protection, chaps, and oh what a list of space-gobblers that turns into. Gas, oil, chains…  Brush hog, box blade, loader bucket teeth and forks…
  • Which means those will all break, so you need welding gear.  And since there is no “ONE size fits all in welding” the gas rig is in one corner, the TIG and MIG gear in another place.  Somewhere between ’em are gas bottles. Small CNC, 3D printer for parts, computers for FreeCAD and Cura.
  • Since we take our food gardening more seriously nowadays?  Now we’ve ventured into the green lean-too, the greenhouse, the tall, raised beds, and a million squirrel murdering tools and poisons.
  • Plus, all that goes with eat; fertilizers while we can still get ’em and now shopping for even more garden fencing…
  • The core of the house is simple enough (my bad for getting the steam oven) but it does one hell of a job on French loaves with dandy crispy tops, so not too apologetic!
  • Did I mention how many parts go into a recording studio before the instruments?  And software and….

I’ve got to remind G2 when he comes back that his life is really pretty simple:

  • If it’s a fire call, “wet stuff on red stuff” doesn’t take much home storage space.
  • Ditto with medical stuff:  “If red’s coming out of someone, stop it and transport.”
  • If it’s ongoing training and more certs?  How much room can an iPad take?

His concern – and it’s legit – is that as we age, we tend to collect stuff.  But, as I try to explain, there is a continuum between minimalist, prepping & self-reliance – and hoarding.  All depends on a judgement call and balance.  How much money do you have?  What’s the worst that could happen.

Then you fire up a few news sites, read, and, well, we ain’t to the hoarding part yet.  Not by a long shot, lol.  While “Nuclear attack would cause ‘political destruction for Russia’, says aid worker: there’s also the small matter of collapse in the West and, oh yeah, famine if you aren’t prepped and armed….

Now Back to the Train Wreck…

Abram, our skookum roofing dude, assures us the sheet metal for the guest room roof will be here in two weeks…or so.  Lot depends on supply chain.

We finally had to give up on working on the roof (low pitch, about 1:12) in the last series of driving rains that left us with a small problem:

This little “opportunity for excellence” is what happens when the roof decides not to stay patched from previous efforts.  That’s when Abram came over, got the metal measured out and now we wait for the new guest room roof.

After which, I’ll be tearing out about 30 percent of the sheetrock (and insulation which looks skanky) and redoing the ceiling. Tape and mud time.

Here’s How Amazon Wins

They have a lock on Complexity when things fail.  We either wore out (or rusted out) the last of the sheetrock tools.  So, figuring G2 will need some for his cabin project, along comes….

Although I saved a few pennies 20-years ago on our first batch of mud tools, the upcharge for stainless including the mud pan was trivial.

Another buying spree update went for a four-step ladder.

Real stable and much better foot and tool holding than our 20+ year old wood ladder.

I’ve told you how many times now?  Never look at a problem like a leaky roof which resists repairs as a problem.  In this splendid example, I will get the metal work done by pro’s for $2,600, and I will save enough on the sheetrock and insulation DYI to still have some passable hand-along tools for the kids.

I don’t know what G2’s sisters would want with a good sheet rock jack, but there’s one of those on hand now, too.

Truth be told, I don’t spend enough to be a democrat, let alone qualify for House leadership.  But I’m getting the feel of things, that’s for damn sure.

Mow Me Down

Somehow, mowing 10-acres, to make it easier for the deer to find grass instead of goat weed, my log-pulling chain jumped off and went into hiding somewhere in the tall grass.  Spent an hour and couldn’t flush it out. Almost impossible to find until New Years.  Easier if we get a good snow, too since that knocks down the tall brush.

If you don’t have a strong 10 or 15-footer, get one before you need it, not after.

There are four Grade 8 bolts that hold the gear housing on the brush hog.  But to get at them is a God-awful nightmare.  How do you (safely?) get 2 feet of 73.5 year old man arm under 50-inches of 300 pounds of tractor implement?

Undo the bush hog from the 3-point, lift it up and lean against a post.  Secure everything with chain.  Then remove the “stump-jumper plate” and have the blonde helper hang on to a box-end wrench on the outside while Mr. Power Tools gets after it with the impact wrench.

Once done, send the blonde darling in the house so as not to hear the language that accompanies putting the cutter and stump-jumper back on (weighs about 75 pounds) and then securing it with a nut and fresh cotter pin. F*cking awful.

I might pause along the way to sharpen the brush hog blades.  Or not.  Blood pressure check might be in order, though. Brush hogs seem to work about the same whether blades are razor-sharp or dull as rebar.  I think the engineering principle is “beat the shit out of everything till it breaks or gets tired” and then move on.

Reduced down to ground level with a shove after untying it from safed off, then comes another half-hour of monkey motion getting the three-point lined up just so in order to get everything in place, balanced and set again.

Health Food

Ure’s prepping point or the week:  We must have 20 pounds of mung bean seeds laying around.  A couple of more individual pounds showed up this week:

Depending on how you grow them, a pound of mung bean seeds will give you nearly 10 pounds of sprouts.  Which are incredibly delicious and nutritious to boot.  When fried in a bit of oil with a few shakes of low-sodium (green label) Kikkoman, it’s excellent as a snack (or veggie side dish) with everything.

Elaine didn’t seem too thrilled with my proposed bean sprouts and spaghetti sauce idea.  But sometimes you just have to sneak up on a girl when you have a really good idea.  (Or maybe she’s just waiting for me to have a really good idea… hmm.  No telling.)

  1. “In defense of my position, I have been right (most times) in the long haul. If you try to pin me down to an exact minute (or even year, sometimes) you’ll win. But the outcome is never in doubt.”

Right on brother! I expect you will hear from the naysayers today. “See George, September 24 came and went and nothing happened. I win.” Countdown 3-2-1.

The day or minute is not ours to know but “the outcome is never in doubt.”

    Enjoy the day.

    • Sept 24 did have a horrible downside for one of our readers. He found out his wife has a life-threatening illness yesterday. And the weekend “of the 24th” ain’t over yet… Hard times are coming. Best met with a kick-ass attitude, full belly, and a tight group of friends with each other’s backs…

      • My prayers are with him and his wife.. may our heavenly father give them the support they need.. nothing scarier than to have someone come up and say.. I need to see you in my office.. then unload the brain numbing diagnostics..

    • Yo Bobby iC,

Ni are not paying attention closely enough…. Xi / CHYNAH is on lockdown..?

Not virus related – Hu-Jintao related, as in Xi is OUT, CCP leadership has given Xi Da Hook. In a show oif support – Pooterz shut down main gaz pipeline to China, exacerbating a already “touchy” situation. He was barely seen at SCO, had NO meetings with anyone/anybody and left early when news broke he was relieved of his Military authority.

So stand by for MOAR KHAOS… scheisse just be getting organized, as Russia new territories in the Donbass are now under SARMAT protection. rutrow.
*B. Isles go boom soonly? Turdturdegon exiting stage left ..?

      • I agree! If Xi is a lead backstop I can’t see The Central Committee hardliners of the CCP having a group hug and singing Kumbia with anyone! The whole planet has skin in the game one way or the other!

  2. “Dad, you worry too much. I’m not going to live like every day could be a disaster….”

Sheesh.. G2 must be talking to my kids.. that is almost word for word what my kids tell me….

  3. I don’t usually tell Ureself (or G2) how to run life business, but I will make some suggestions today. I did the road whore deal for a significant duration, and I have some perspectives on it.
What is the goal of taking on work out of town? To earn money with which to gain financial independence. If you you can’t bank a substantial amount of the pay on the road trip, then you need to bail and go home, regardless of intended duration.
This brings up the next lesson of road whoring. You must have a home base which you own. G2 needs title to a lot with utilities available, and large enough for a septic system to be legal if it is in a rural setting. This will give him a place to spend that money he brings in from far away.
I first started traveling during the Reagan years, when Reagan and his financial wizards shut down huge sections of American industry, causing a complete reset on the employment picture. I did not have a home base at the time, and deluded myself into thinking 4 year assignments were permanent. During those years, I ranged pretty much coast-to-coast.
Being young, mobile, and working relatively cheap, I stayed fully employed under Reagan, though my balance sheet was never that good.
Because of the mayhem Reagan wrecked on domestic employment during those years, most of the old timers had vanished from the workplaces I spent time at. Employers wanted fresh meat who would work cheap and were easier for the office psychopaths (managers) to bully. I began doing informal interviews of the old timers I met along the way, and I found a common thread to their stories.
The oldsters who survived Reaganomics were out of debt, and all had a serviceable residence which was paid for. A few had homes in smaller cities. Some had family farms. Others had fish and deer camps. But all had a place to go where living expenses were low. Some made long commutes into town, others rented places near work, when they could find it. Many of these fellows put in 20+ years working for the same employer, when work was available. Most endured one, two and three year lay-offs when the Reagan reset went down.
In talking about this with coworkers who defected from Eastern Europe, I found this to be identical to the model used by professionals under Socialist and Communist rule. They kept apartments in town, but hung on to family places in the country with garden spots. When the tanks rolled in town, they went to the country. Reference Doctor Zhivago .
I eventually got control of a homesite on family ancestral lands, and began building a small house. I built the structure on holidays, weekends, and vacation, and did major upgrades during periods when work was scarce. I eventually moved most of my furniture there, and only took what was needed to apartments near work.
Opportunities for work closer to home eventually allowed me to begin commuting, and I haven’t had to rent an apartment in decade or so.
Currently the biggest threat to American workers are foreign national scabs with dubious credentials. Obama unleashed an even greater mayhem on the American workplace than Reagan did. Thanks to having a modest place that was paid for, and savings, I survived the Obama years and stayed out of debt.
At some point, G2 will not have Ureself around to bail him out. That is why it is important that he get his own homeplace established while the work is available.

    • Even if your not a road whore..but a job whore..working multiple jobs actually hurts you in several ways.. you have travel expenses..meals away.. I love Wendy’s..they make it your way.. burger to the side..southwest dinner salad comes with a bowl of chili and a baked potato instead of fries..
Then taxes.. you have to take out extra..I use to think a camper van

    • N_____

Awesome post and sharing; I can really relate, thank you.

Great Advice and most importantly, a small and humble plan can lead to great things.

Maybe George and Elaine will sub divide their acreage and allot acreage to G.

Safety in numbers, and stick together.

  4. “Who has the tools to keep up the”

My future grand son in law.. made a comment the other day.. my grand daughter was concerned about something and he said.. go ask grandpa he has the tools to rebuild anything.. which I did have the solution.. and my grandson is moving.. closer to G…and in his apartment now.. had a drawer.. now I have built hundreds of thousands of drawers.. and this one really surprised me..what in the heck did they do.. it was manufactured and the way they built their drawers at the plant is quite shocking to me.. anyway.. the track was bent and the drawer destroyed they really used some cheap azz crap in that thing…. wasn’t sure I could rebuild it without totally rebuilding it.. because the particle board they had was totally well.. destroyed .. and who ever tried to fix it before my grandson moved in obviously didn’t know how to do any of it..they were obviously duct tape and wd40 mechanics and home repair person.. ..
BUT.. I did what I thought was impossible.. I rebuilt and repaired the cheap particle board.. you cannot even tell it has been destroyed LOL LOL didn’t even have to get any melamine to cover it LOL.. it should be dry today and I will dig out my nail guns and put it together so they can slip it in the cabinet.. I didn’t even have to buy new tracts LOL.. I did have to hit my little mini me up to use his tippy tap hammer and a couple of his screws..( I don’t have a clue where mine are)

  5. Well said today as per usual. I look at it as when I croak it will be like tossing the keys to the wife and kids then say, do whatever you want with it. Although after this years review according to our financial planner we are in good enough shape that I could have spent a hell of a lot more than $450 smackers on that Stetson for him.
It has been decided that after this next year, if we are still alive (queue In The Year 2525), We will shut down ops at the ranch. Two leases will run out on adjoining pasture lands and due to their change in ownership we have been advised the leases will not be offered anymore. So a major remodel is kicking off in the house, kitchen and bathrooms gutted to the bones, yada yada yada. End of 2023 we will be left with a few head to generate funding to pay taxes and to keep our property taxes down. I also promised the boys Barney and Andy they had nothing to worry about. I mentioned to Barney I would be renting their services out to other ranchers his ears perked up and looked at me. I swear he was smiling.
Our prayers to the reader who’s wife is facing health issues.
    Stay safe. 73

  6. Edgar Casey predicted the Pole Shift and as the world turns, there are maps of what will be, once the shift is complete. Slow process, that shift.

Present maps of the future are at best, guesses of how land masses will be effects. – but what if you had satellite measurements and some high tech calculation tools to work out all the equations and odds of odd possibilities? You’d have a pretty damn good idea of what’s left after the shift.

I find it interesting how certain people are being allowed to relocate and where, who’s buying land and where, and who’s fighting for what ground. What is being shut down, etcetera …

There only a certain amount of time before the world reaches the point when water flows where it hasn’t for a long time, if ever.

It’s a slow process … little by little … New World (Order)

    • I had a wise counsellor years ago that would tell me “try and look at things from the 35,000 foot level.”

So I have this image of a long Santa Claus parade and the children along the route asking mom “When is Santa coming?” Of course, he is always at the end of the parade and you can see him and in fact, the whole parade from 35,000 feet unlike those along the parade route.

You are not sure exactly when he will pass the inquiring child but you do know Santa is coming.

      • for myself.. that look from 35000 feet came as a slap on the face..
I had to live through it.. People do not realize just what they take for granted.. even I was on the road with the thought that what was more important was a number.. it has nothing to do with any of it..
I was in a group that thought that the average person was nothing more than a drooling idiot.. and would give me crap because I had not excelled.. no it has to do with being able to take advantage of the opportunities that pass by you..
instead I was beat down.. almost at every corner.. the slap on the noggen .. now was that a slap or was it an opportunity.. I wouldn’t have a food supply reserve.. and I probably wouldn’t have learned how to make most everything.. I wouldn’t have even thought that it would be necessary.. but I did have to walk in winter twelve miles.. I did have to beat kernals of grain into a crude gruel.. and cook over a camp stove.. ( I learned how they work and how to build them out of almost nothing.. friday night my grandson was saying for me to keep an eye open for a good wood stove..I said build one) the three times I know about that I was thrust into a situation of dire need.. I learned something different.. each time ..
people will grab a chainsaw.. what if you don’t have fuel for that chainsaw.. what if you need to make fuel out of algae.. or what ever.. could you.. I have what six or seven different grinders.. my favorite.. is the norpro.. LOL.. for meat etc.. and even pasta making..
        https://www.amazon.com/Kitchen-Vegetable-Grinder-Sausage-Stuffer/dp/B00JX0ENHE/ref=asc_df_B00JX0ENHE/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198079985682&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13386808369315619215&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9020398&hvtargid=pla-378940107254&th=1
I have the big ones.. I love this one.. it is easy to clean and does a great job.. I use ours every single day.. every day.. for one thing or another.. it is probably one of the most used items I have..
I have ceb block press.. I wanted to build a shelter with it.. but what if.. what if Biden pushes Putin to go the distance.. he will you know.. then all of us will be scurrying for shelter food and warmth..
why not have a zip tie dome on hand.. doesn’t take much room up.. and your set..
        https://www.ziptiedomes.com/geodesic-shelter-domes/index.htm
we went a year without an income a few years ago.. it sucked.. but I had beer and cheese etc.. I made it myself..
years ago there was a show renovation nation..
        https://press.discovery.com/us/pg/programs/renovation-nation-season-2/
when I started to see people I knew on there putting in .. cisterns and cages around their homes.. I started to wonder.. what do they know that I don’t know.. or are they seeing the same thing I was..
If Bidens war escalates.. and so far it looks as if it just might.. we will all be scurrying around like the guys on naked and afraid..

    • off the wall – current understanding of pole shift process – it is all about Solar, Solar “kill shotz” if they were to strike the N or S pole.
Planets tectonic plates boundary lines act as weak points. System is constantly adjusting for changes in Energy input levels(cosmic&solar). Planet is self aware NRG wise, as are Human Beings under normal circumstances – aint nothing normal right now. All that energy pouring in via Cosmos alone has dramtaic effects on our planet/lives.. “its cosmic, like the Seattle ChickenBunny.
So long story short – Earth is constantly adjusting/moving location of Pole to best accommodate(stability) a potential kill shot from blowing the planet to pieces..

No eye deer what happens if it hits a Rommanian or Ukrainian..

      • I actually have that map; been holding on to it and the book for a long time.

Finally found the Ancient Mysteries show that aired in March of 1994.

While I was watching it on tv, the program triggered a shocking memory of a visit by an alien ship.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zE7nOhXAaOU

As you watch this episode, realize that many predictions have not come true in the timelines mentioned.

There are many prophecies and prophets in this show; some mentioned on this site: Mary Summer Rain, Edgar Cayce, Nostradamus, Gordon Michael Scallion, etc., several others on the show haven’t been mentioned at all, but are intriguing and interesting nonetheless.

Gordon Michael Scallion future world map:

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xy74wZyPsb8

But it is said in the Bible: “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”

        https://www.biblehub.com/kjv/matthew/24.htm

So, even though, these prophecies have not all come true, many have happened, many are in the process of coming true, and many of the signs of the impending changes are happening right now, and they have not been discussed in the correct context so many people are missing the message in the signs.

The link provided by The Tinkerer is an excellent way to read from the very best of William Hutton’s research of the Edgar Cayce Readings, not only on earth changes, but many topics. This is part of his life work of over FIFTY years.

These topics, at first, will appear difficult to understand, however, the longer one takes to read the material, the easier the material will reveal itself to you.

My approach now, now that I have taken care of my parents until they passed, assisted all of my siblings, and nieces and nephews, to the best of my ability and assorted in-laws, relations, friends, etc., I am focusing more on just doing what I know to do, and keeping it simple. My wonderful husband is along for the ride, committed and loyal and flexible. He will never read the mountains of information that I have, nor documented and studied his dreams, nor developed an intimate relationship with God, nor paid attention to the signs, but he didn’t have to, he has me and I am blessed with him.

All of you have someone also, even if you have no one, you have all of us who have gathered here together for these times AND most importantly, you all have God. God standing serene and supreme, always available to all of us at any time.

The Great Mystery that we all come from and go back to.

We can prepare, and we should, to the very best of our ability, no matter how small or seemingly inconsequential, you never know how you may BE or have that one thing everyone or someone else needs.

        Matthew 22:34-40
        King James Version

34 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.

35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,

36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment.

39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Jesus is telling you to LOVE God and to LOVE yourselves and to LOVE others as yourself.

        Be Brave.

  7. “Ure’s prepping point or the week: We must have 20 pounds of mung bean seeds laying around. ”

chickens love sprouts…I had read a pioneers homestead manual.. it had sections in it on everything.. meant for the homesteaders to be able to trouble shoot almost any situation.. anyway.. in there was a section on feed.. and bean sprouts were at the top.. take oat seeds and sprout them.. or corn.. then mix it with grain.. cracked corn and oats.. the birds literally would fight each other for them and fatten them up.. I had twelve laying hens and was getting almost two eggs a day from them..
so a small chicken coup and sprouts will give you about twelve dozen eggs a week..
and only twenty pounds.. sheesh.. that won’t last very long.. How much wheat do you have.. how much white wheat and red wheat.. rice.. etc.. IF… the SHTF.. you would be surprised at how much you consume.. we go through 124 cans of wet vegetables a month even without the SHTF….one half pound a meat a day per person..
I am doing what you suggested and writing up a paper on hydroponics.. the cube idea I had years ago.. ( inspired by a bunch of vietnamese .. I had rented a garden spot.. the garden spot was twenty foot wide by twenty five foot long.. anyway.. a bunchof vietnamese rented the spot next to me.. each family got a four foot by four foot space.. I was amazed at what they grew in that small space.. per family and it was amazing.. so I had this idea.. how much can a person grow in a four foot cube.. if a four foot by four foot square space grow enough for a whole family.. cube that.. so I am putting it together and will send you the copy when it is done.. I have some hinges being made right now then I can put up one four toot square to show my theory..

      • It’s the idea I wanted nasa to put up on the shuttle.. each 5 by 5 cube ( standard pallet) could grow as much as a large garden and more.. a small greenhouse can produce as much as an acre of land.. I made the preliminary 3 by 3 .. the issue I had was pollinators.. GMO crops has the bee guy convinced to keep his bees away.. I have some brackets being made now.. I dont have the .eans to build the whole cube .. but can definitely show how it works..
In the 80s I was asked what I would do for emergency shelters.. to be air dropped.. I submitted a design light weight two men could put up the shelter in.less than five minutes and enough shelters on a pallet to give semi permanent shelter for about 200 per pallet.. with humidity and moisture a coating could be implemented that would make them even more durable..you’ll like the cube.. telescoping..can be used several different ways..lol I’m planning to use cardboard for the tray and light bar racks..lol

      • The reason I brought up the design I submitted for the shelter..is because I liked that so well that when I was going to have the kids submit the idea of the cube to nasa for the interstellar food production I had thought adding that idea on the cube.. so that if it was dropped on let’s say Mars.. the whole cube would deploy and make an enclosed greenhouse.. anchored and then the shell filled with a foam or aircrete etc. Each one could be connected and would be 15 by 20..pop up greenhouse..fragile yet strong like an egg shell..anyway.. for years challenge questions were sent my way…. always saying hey we could give you…
And I’d see ideas implemented and not even a cup of coffee lol..here’s one .. im not going to offer anything..
Got an idea hey the might give you 3 mil..(NOT GOING TO EVER HAPPEN.. you would submit your idea..they respectfully decline it.. then you see it being implemented later on once submitted they may not utilize it ..but later on the idea gets used and if it’s not patented you SOL.. and unfortunately I’m a poor boy in the wastelands.. lol so when I give one I never expecta return from it.. satisfaction of seeibg it being used has to be enough )
“As NASA works to extend human exploration of the solar system, a sustained presence on the Moon will be critical for developing and testing the technologies and systems needed for future missions to Mars and beyond. In situ resource utilization (ISRU)—the development of lunar materials for life support, fuel, energy, manufacturing, and construction—is necessary to limit the delivery of supplies from Earth. One of the most important of these resources is water. Water supports all life on Earth, and will be critical to supporting human exploration beyond Earth. On the Moon, water is trapped in icy regolith at the lunar poles, including inside permanently shadowed regions (PSRs).”

      • I’m making one rack of the cube each cube would have five to ten.. for the smaller root crops you’d have fifty feet of grow space by five..caring for right at a thousand plants..each grow tray moves like a drawer allowing the plants to be cared for independently..

  8. looks like China is gearing up for their October congress and vote for President. “China handed down suspended death sentences to two ex-ministers and life sentences to four other top officials ” Nothing new there.., happens every time., more to come. President Xi being arrested is still just a rumor., no fact at all.

Bung sprouts are good for stir fry., and that’s about it. Never have gotten into the “micro green” planting ‘thing’.

    • damm !- fastidious in Ure personal hygiene – or just into really weird kinky food experiences ??
      Urban Dictionary-
      “bung sprouts” =
The ass hairs that are in the crack or around the bung hole, or sphincter. These are usually used as a prank in retaliation of someone throughing their pubes at you. You can reach back and grab a pack of bung sprouts to throw back at them.

d” you have given Us whole meaning to “tossed salad” & Sunday humor without the comics! thx

    • And chop suey..
      2 tablespoon butter
      1 onion – chopped
2 stalks celery – finely chopped
      2 teaspoon ginger – minced
      2 cloves garlic – minced
      2 pounds hamburger
      2 tablespoon molasses
      ¼ cup soy sauce
      2 tablespoon cornstarch
      1 cup hot water
1 can of cream of mushroom soup
1 small can water chestnuts – drained
1 large can bean sprouts – drained
Melt the butter and fry the onions..then add the hamburger.. once the onions are caramelized..
Then add the rest of the ingredients..corn starch mix in water..
( I also use beef or chicken broth)
Serve it over potatoes, rice, or noodles..

      • Oh you can use beef cubed chicken cubed to.. but if you use chicken cubed use chicken broth.. in it not beef broth.. I like it with hamburger..

  9. Sprouted wheat berries make great bread. Most of your dried beans will sprout. I was told broccoli seeds make the most delicious sprouts.

It is common to get mold while sprouting. Follow directions about rinsing carefully and keep your sprouting container especially clean. Mold can be deadly.

    • Rinse your sprouts with a solution of 3% hydrogen peroxide diluted. You can find the correct ratio on the net. It doesn’t take much H2O2 in solution to get the job done! Mold problem solved, and for whatever reason the sprouts grow faster and just seem for vibrant!

      • Which, by the way, is why, if you make your own “hand sanitizer” (as I do) you make the mix with about 7% H2O2. The glycerin or aloe are optional — the peroxide is not. Alcohol kills the bugs, but peroxide kills the spores…

  10. “mung beans”

Again, I know nobody here will ever eat the cricket.

If you ever read “Oliver Twist” it seems when other people get hungry they eat anything. But that’s just a story book so take it with a grain of salt.

Moreover, the cricket is the Mung Bean of the protein category. If the adjacent tribe is willing to trade, they will trade for high quality protein.

Like the Mung, cricket farming does not require a lot of ground space. A small basement can become a densely packed protein powerhouse.

The time needed to get a cricket from egg to plate is a lot less than getting a goat from egg to plate. Although, acoustic foam may be necessary w/crickets. Good luck hiding a noisy goat or cow from poachers. Especially in a subdivision. Even if you hide the goat in the basement it’s gonna stink.

Crickets have a low barrier to entry. $3.00 and you can become a cricket entrepreneur. What’s ask on a baby goat & the food bill for the first month. Go to Amazon, people are buying cricket.

    • People bought Bill, Hillary, Obama, Biden, so NOTHING people buy surprises me….They bought Biush, Bush, and what’s his name the NYC Developer who has been singled out as Evil, too… People will buy anything

      • Feed the demand.

In the other post you mentioned hunger times are coming.

Mung beans are a fast, nutritious meal. Within a week you’ll have fresh food. A week without food is not death.

A room full of food w/Mung Beans will get a person to the first cricket harvest. Within two months of start a cricket protein factory will be producing.

Don’t forget a couple of years ago when Venezuela went over the falls people were eating rotten meat and drywall soup w/sides of zoo animals.

They use the word ‘forced’ but we know eating is choice.

        2018

      • “I will die before I subsist on bugs.
…call me old-fashioned if you wish.”

Well @William of the Radio Ranch…that is spoken by a gentleman that is not hungry….
Three times that I know of.. I went through devistating circumstances.. three times I learned just how much we all take for granted.. like the guys that buy chain saws in case there is a shtf scenario.. or count on being able to drive their car down the road..
the power went out when I was little and it was out for a couple of weeks.. someone asked my father what he was going to do.. he wasn’t worried.. he had an electric blanket.. when it hit him.. he went out to the shed and brought in the old wood stove..heated with wood the rest of the years that they lived in that house..
When I went hungry and didn’t have any food and no way to get any food.. I gathered up grain off of the ground.. and with a stone and an old iron pan.. beat and ground that grain up to make a crude gruel.. opened the door to the apartments unheated hallway to get what heat was out there to warm our place.. scariest things ever.. power was off heat was off.. had an old coleman camp stove..( still got it.. and the oven to) because I like coffee I would gather the old used coffee grounds out of the garbage to re roast and brew..
Not that long ago.. people were pulling knives and guns out to take someone elses toilet paper..
so to say I would die first.. you first have to go hungry.. that is why the vast majority of the kids today have only a week or twos worth of groceries on hand.. they have never gone hungry.. but those that have have a little extra.. in my faith.. they tell everyone to gather up a food stock.. the reason is the pioneers went hungry.. but only six percent have any on hand..
        https://youtu.be/HDvSPQ7megQ
don’t eat japanese meat LOL.. first time I read the story was in world waste magazine LOL ..
        https://youtu.be/0ajs1frIdcY
        https://youtu.be/vojc4eCkVxg
the odds are .. you wouldn’t know..and if hungry wouldn’t care..

        https://youtu.be/c7gDBVmgIRA

NOW.. if we greenscaped..we would’t need to rely on any of it.. and if we built solar towers and distributed them starting at the furthest point from the main power plant and worked back.. we would have a secure grid..
if we build air wells.. and cisterns.. we would have water water used is never gone.. it is transformed…. but.. we first have to go without lights.. not be able to get food to eat and get hungry… and get thirsty.. as soon as it is obvious that we have taken the things we have around us for granted that they will always be there.. and when gone.. we then know.. it wasn’t forever..
        https://youtu.be/yPxMOzN0Uq4
That is one of the reasons why our country is in such peril.. we have leaders that have never had to work.. never gone hungry.. don’t know what its like to be cold or have to struggle to make do with what we have they have free medical the best in the land.. while others like my last gentleman looses everyting to pay the final healthcare expenses of his wife.. lost his farm his vacation home his business.. came to live with us with nothing but the clothes on his back..Homeless.. the gentlemen we have today.. same thing.. both were in a bad state.. one semi homeless.. the other homeless..(Now.. if I had known my granddaughter was going to be facing what she is.. I wouldn’t have taken them in.. and would have had her and the kids move in.. instead.. this is real troubling for me.. I cannot with good conscience toss two homeless cripples into the cold to try and survive and I don’t have the money to dig her out of the situation she is in.. four little kids..going to live in a camper..) . the kids today have credit cards they haven’t gone through the hard times… buy now pay later.. when I grew up.. no one had them.. if you didn’t have the money you didn’t own it..
those that went through the depression if they did without.. they had a regular grocery store of food.. I have some but you have to be able to replace what you use.. I learned how to make the creature comforts that we all take for granted..

    • “Cricket” contains an icky bit, which scientists have yet to figure out how to process out, and which does not play nicely with hominids.

I won’t touch your crickets, and I expect you to not touch my steak…

    • If we were meant to eat insects we wouldn’t be repulsed by them naturally. There is an enzyme in the exoskeleton of insects called chitinase. It’s not good for us and can cause long term inflammation as it is highly inflammatory. Inflammation brings about debillating disease. Besides it being absolutely gross and getting it down needs lots of ketchup, it’s a bitch to process unless you want to eat the crawlys live. You can make flower out of it but cricket muffins? Blessings

      • Agreed Ken,
Right now we all eat aborted fetal dna in our flavorings of the sweet drinks out there. All the foods containing this “senomyx” flavor enhancer are mind boggling. Remember that only a few companies own all the food and distribution thereof. And those fine folks have decided murdered children make good product enhancers and pollute the race while they’re at it. We are all “useless idiots” to them anyway. We are not capable of thinking for ourselves, just ask Obummer. They just can’t figure out how to kill us fast enough without the genius populace finding out and rising up. Nothing to see here move along.
Seriously, I have been hungry, and that by choice and it never crossed my mind to break my fast with sautéed crickets and meal worm rolls with canola oil butter/spread.
I like eating real natural foods, like you speak of all the time. Some of your recipes are really wonderful. And the projects you make out of stuff people would discard and it turned out magnificent. Inspiring. Blessings

      • “Remember that only a few companies own all the food and distribution thereof. ”

AMEN Steve… years ago I was head of maintenance.. anyway they hired a guy that use to make HOT DOGS… he would tell us stories of some of the things in them and how they were made…for over a year I couldn’t buy a hot dog.. I still have to buy them from a meat processor that I know how he makes his hot dogs and before I would trust him I would come in and watch him make the ones I would buy LOL…..
we do get the kids some of their favorites.. but I won’t eat them.. or I make my own.. since the boss won’t eat hot dogs.. I usually just buy the ones I eat.. same thing with pork.. no pork in the house.. except for bacon..

  11. Time to harvest sunflower for next year seeds. Companion gardened watermelon and pumpkin in my spring tulip plot. Saving seeds.
Still some potato in the garden to dig, and beets.

Cut steaks and a roast from beef tenderloin bought, sale price $11.88 lb, Canadian. It was a small maybe heifer, but enough for us. A treat since inflation, last year was $9.99 lb on sale, year before about $8.99 on sale Canadian.

Here if you want you can grow 5 tobacco plant with no quota permit, or 4 cannabis, but not harvesting just yet.

  12. Hey Andy. Please put in a word with the DUDE for the people of Eastern Canada, particularly the good people of Newfoundland who took in hundreds of Americans on 9/11, fed them, entertained them and sent them away asking nothing in return. They are very special human beings and many of them have lost everything including their lives.

By the way, I watched people standing in line with gas cans to get fuel for their generators as most are without electricity (90% of P.E.I. is without power). I got thinking about California after 2035 if something like this were to happen and fossil fuels are gone. What do people stand in line for?

  13. “Dad, you worry too much. I’m not going to live like every day could be a disaster….”

    Nor should he.

But he’d damn’ sure better have a contingency plan for IF the SHTF, which leads back to livin’ on the farm, because someday “IF” is gonna happen…

  14. “…the upcharge for stainless including the mud pan was trivial.”

I have learned, living in a tropical damp environment, that steel rusts & rots quickly. Stainless hardware for EVERYTHING where available. Lessons hard learned from antenna hardware. The T-posts along the side property line were installed before I bought, six years ago. I had to shoot them down with Ospho to stop the rust. Rustoleum is next. I haven’t found stainless T-posts yet!

    “Bung Sprouts” ! LOL !
Mung Beans… soup! Local Filipinos call it ‘Mongo Bean’. Thick soup with pumpkin squash, Shiitake mushrooms, and pork belly cubed. I’ve got the stuff for sprouting but just have not gotten ambitious enough to DO it yet. Put a South-Up magnet under your sprouts to increase your yield. Still trying to get my chili pepper seeds to sprout, too.

  15. Our lone tomato plant in back is going gangbusters now. I guess it was just waiting for the triple digits to pass while basking under the shade of the tree I put it under. With a little help from Miracle Grow it’s got tomatoes all over it and more blooms coming on – AND the leaves have come uncurled as well. I guess the curling is just a protective response to overly intense heat.

We MAY actually get a peach or two off of one of the trees at the ranch, too, if the damned squirrels and birds don’t get to them first. The Ranger peach has had peaches on it the size of grapes all Summer but now they’re actually starting to grow and mature. It does help to spray the tree down a couple of times while you’re watering it.

  16. Wow.

One day after Sir Elton’s performance at the White House was received with rapture, Mrs. Pelosi had to curtail her onstage remarks last night about climate change due to a crescendo of boos at the Global Citizen’s music festival in New York’s Central Park. Away from the madding crowd, msm pictured the Speaker posing cheek-to-cheek backstage with a co-founder of the legendary San Francisco band Metallica.

Let’s join DJ George whose been raising roofs one is led to understand. Yes, here’s the closing song from Metallica’s set at last night’s gig –

    “Master of Puppets”

    • I didn’t know Elton played the white house. I will be running his back stage security when he comes to the T’coma Dome. Huh. Interesting. Thanks for the thought.

  17. George
It’s only a matter of time before an injury sidelines you, happens to seniors all the time. Then, in the rush to catch up, (or fail to recover completely) you re-injure yourself and never recover from it.

It used to be my entertainment to watch people who come to Ecuador act like they were 20 years younger than they are. Until I started seeing the horror of their disastrous choices.

Your chances of survival with a group of only two or three people is untenable. After the numbers issue, the next most important thing is a renewable protein supply, which you do not have.

We had a roof fire from a gas water heater with a missing washer on the gas line. It set a rubber garden hose on fire. Within 5 minutes we had 10 people at our door. We spent the next two weeks hearing apologies from friends who heard of our troubles but couldn’t show up.

When it comes for you George, who is going to show up for you?

They also covered the bank crisis there in China and the backlash Russians are giving in response to Putin’s draft. Oh, and our very own Air Force is going woke. My deepest sympathies BUFF Driver.

  19. Hmmmmmm

In reference to G2. You did the best you could. He is probably doing way better at his age now than you were at his age George.

I look my littlest. Who is just crushing it at life. Straight A’s, already taking college courses, on a team sport, gets up early and hits the gym, already has her future planned, college and then her own practice. Already taking steps to achieve goals she set for 8 years down the road. Has a job, a car, a driver’s license, pays her own gas and cell phone bill. She is a hard worker. Very disciplined and focused. Now, sbe Doest want to hang out with me much. But when I was 16 I didn’t want to talk or hang out with my parents either. And I wasn’t trapped in the house for covid lock down with no school and stuck home with the “parental figures” as she puts it.

She is doing way way better than I was when I was 16. When I was 16, I left home, moved on casino road in Everett into the Emerald apartments with my buddy and my 17 year old girlfriend who had a fake ID and was stripping at honeys on 99 while I drove pizza truck, at the end of the night, when I closed the restaurant, I’d fill two one gallon milk jugs with beer from the tap, because they lost that much beer in foam from the kegs. My life goal at the time was to get bigger amounts of weed, more 4 way window payne, a better motor cycle, a triple percolator bong and have a three some with my girlfriends best friend whose stage name was Trixie. Those were my life goals at age 16.

So, you know our kids are doing way better at life and they will go farther in life than we did. You have to trust their judgment. Because it came from you. Lol

I sure miss when they were little time to time just being kids and all that.

Some interesting observations lately, I met an albino. Never seen one before. With pink eyes. A real albino. That’s new. Not sure what to think about that. It’s so rare that I forgot there was albino in the world. Like Mr Powder in the Dean Kontz books. Tripped me out. Really nice fella tho.

The term “wild” has had a major up tick in everyday use around me. Atleast 20 occurrences a day.

A very very significant uptick in personal synchronicity. Unbelievably so. Like a constant state of othhh wow. And rapidly accelerating so much I have to ignore it to focus on my task at hand.

A lady, I’m seeing did the most beautiful loving and tender thing I think I’ve ever experienced by a woman. Definitely a memory I will never forget. I spent the night with her. I woke up at 3am snoring hard, she was getting out of bed. I said im sorry I don’t mean to snore, I’m just really tired. She turned around ran her hand through my hair so gently and softly said to me. I’m not upset at all. Not one bit. You a hard working man Andy. Harder working than any man I’ve ever met. I’ve never seen you complain, miss work for any reason, never call in sick. You need to rest. She said roll over. I did and I rolled over on to her pillow, pulled up the blanket to my neck, kissed me on the mouth and said i love you, sleep well my Lion King. As she was walking away, I could smell her natral scent she left on her pillow. She smells like sunshine and cotton candy. She turned my alarm off and when I woke up naturally in the morning she came in with a big cup of coffee. I don’t know how she knew I was awake but she said good morning. You feel rested? I said yes. She sat on the bed kissed me on the fore head and said eggs and bacon for breakfast, wheat toast and a large glass of orange juice? I said that sounds perfect. and then slap me on the but and said good! Cow boy up! I need you to take the trash out.

Then she stopped at the door way. Turned on the light and cupcake for desert? And she was wearing panties that had a picture of a cupcake on each cheek with smiley faces on them. I fuckin fell out of bed laughing. She walked out the room.

I don’t know what the future holds for her and I? But I will never forget those moments. That is one most beautiful moments I’ve ever experienced in my life with a woman. That is how a woman truly loves a man.

Truly i am Blessed and Highly fortunate! It is my hope you are as well.

  20. Oh and this is almost as odd as meeting a genuine Albino.

I stopped to take a piss on the side of the road out in the middle of nowhere on the way to Idaho and found a brand new skateboard. Laying in the bushes. Nobody around for miles. A really really nice skateboard. I haven’t road a skateboard in 25+ years. I put it in the back of my car and I showed it to someone who knows things about skateboards. He said It’s Fendi they are super spendy. and we looked it up. It is $800 deck. And it’s good super good trucks and those wheels are about $80 on it. Cool. Good find.

    https://www.cettire.com/products/fendi-logo-printed-skateboard-913835417/cmVhY3Rpb24vY2F0YWxvZ1Byb2R1Y3RWYXJpYW50OmNvNDdBY2R2N1licDhROFR0?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhbvglamx-gIVsMLCBB1Ilw2YEAQYCSABEgI0ZfD_BwE

It was just laying there in the bushes. Been laying there a while, it was kinda dusty. Out on some country road with nobody and no houses for miles.

Guess I will see what that means in the future. Definitely a “finger print of God”. Not sure why THE DUDE thinks I need an $900 skateboard. But HE knows the shit I don’t. LOL which I might add is alot of stuff I don’t.

    ATR: Ordo Ab Chao!

Oh and I had that backwards. She said my “King Lion Kitty.” Not Lion King.

One of the most treasured memories i have. Made me all squishy inside. And she is a 10 forsure.

      • It’s almost always different than I think it is. All the finger prints of God are future tense positive situations, circumstances, experiences and things in my life. A $900 skateboard is the second most expensive finger print I’ve ever received. I was at a Gas station about 8 months ago. Cleaning out my car and getting Gas at 3am. I thought a piece of trash had went under my car so I reached under it and pulled out a bag with a brand new $500 Louis Vetan belt in it. Some how i drove over it and didn’t realize it. Then when I got in the car with it. I realized I forgot my belt that morning. So I got out and put it on and it was an exact fit.

Nobody was around. The gas station store was closed. I waited 30 minutes. Then left.

I would never spend $500 on a belt. But THE DUDE seemed to think I needed it. I still wear it today occasionally.

It’s like finding that empty CD case for Erric Church with a pamphlet for Halloween costumes. 4 months prior to Eric Church booking his tour, 8 months before me ever hearing about that stadium security job. Then on October 30th at exactly midnight, I’m on the pass gate at Eric Church over at Climate Pledge Arena, someone calls me and I go to turn my phone off and accidently take a picture at midnight and its the exact image of Eric Church on stage as the image inside the CD case I found at midnight on January 31st that day. 10 months to the day and at the exact time.

This is the realm I operate in. I have millions of examples of “happenstance” occurrences just like these 2 examples on daily basis. Like me saying Morning Cupcakes! and that beautiful lady who has never read this site, a week later saying Cupcakes for desert then shaking her perfect ass with panties on that have have a cupcake with smiley faces on each cheek. I laughed so hard I fell off the bed. Mostly because she does have a perfect ass and she doesn’t know that I said Morning Cupcakes on here. None the less. Cupcakes it is and Cupcakes it was.

I see eveyone on here who comments have all sorts of experiences of these in nature from their own words. Some quickly and some slowly. Some are aware of the occurrences and some are oblivious to their occurrence. At times we create in each other’s lives and at times. It’s a truly remarkable plane of existence that most of the world cannot fathom or comprehend. It definitely would blow a few people’s minds if they even knew this realm of existence existed.

Lots of videos of beautiful lady’s with Drivers, wracking balls, in pony tails and golf skirts, for the last 4 months in my feed. Not anything I searched for, it is. Pretty interesting to note.

O.K. time to get busy being about it. Grabbing gears, the stone mountain view of things, Until the new chapter begins.

    • Apparently a segment of the “Today” show was about Friday. WH invitee and twin daughter Jenna of ’43 Bush opted to take her two eldest children 9 and 7 to the Sir Elton gig because she had seen Prince George and Princess Charlotte behave so well at the recent funeral of Her late Majesty QEII. Things went off pretty well all things considered. Mrs. Pelosi received mention after the eldest tripped in front of her. The younger, Poppy, is Bureau material asking Mr. Biden where the movie theater was. And when seated for the show turning around to tell Queen of the Pop Trolls, Anna Kendrick, “My name is Poppy, too!”

      What a smart kid.

  21. Just to let everyone know, we ARE bombing something and the bombers are so proud of the act that they’re going to be televising the event today, Monday –

“WATCH NASA SMASH INTO AN ASTEROID: Sixty-five million years ago, an asteroid struck Earth. Today, NASA strikes back. On Monday, Sept. 26th, the DART spacecraft will intentionally collide with asteroid Dimorphos in a test to see if human tech can change an asteroid’s motion. 22. Good morning Mister. You are up early. Just like me. Hopping out of bed at 3am and doing morning ritual.

Moving off the mountain today. Atleast for a little while. Which is good. Change of scenery.

I will send ya a beautiful picture of the job I was on. The picture doesn’t do the view justice. It is truly breath taking. Moving off the beach next month or so too.

Saw cans of progressive soup yesterday for $4.64 a single can at the store. It’s seems to me -progressives – are becoming a bit to expensive for most people’s taste. I didn’t buy a can. I don’t think many people did. Not for that price. All things related.
