Prepping Time Finals?

If you’re an early riser, we apologize for the up and downs of our website today because of changes I’ve made in order to ensure that if the Internet is attacked in coming days, weeks, or months, our site will still be here with the best news sources we have available.

First things first:

There are many “moving parts” to the Internet, some of which is the “name server” world.  What most people don’t realize is that when you type in a comfortable and easy to remember website name, the internet does a (domain name server) DNS look-up.

What happens next is akin to magic.  One option is for a website to use DHCP (dynamic host control protocol) in which case a website like urbansurvival.com will be forwarded to our hosting company. Where there are many servers waiting to serve your digital glop.

This relies on stacks and scads of name server operations around the net.  Some of the bigger DNS providers are outfits like Google, CloudFlare, Lightspeed, and OpenDNS.

There is another level to the web – and that’s the name server to IP (internet protocol) address.  Ours (and I added it to your site name tab) is 190.92.156.129.

Using this address (from today on…) you will be able to get to UrbanSurvival under no DNS conditions.  May not work for social media, at least right away in case of an NHD event (net hard down). But we plan to be here.

It also may not work for your bank or your brokerage firm, either.  Lots of things can go wrong…

It’s all slick until…well, the unthinkable.

How to Kill the Web

There is a strategic and policy matrix here.

In the event of an abnormal (think world convulses) event, will you still want access to the Internet.   I think the answer is yes.  But a lot will depend on the severity of net down conditions.

The web could just up and disappear some morning and you might be totally unready for that kind of world.  We, on the other hand, are always trying to anticipate the Future.  In our view, we’re getting on down the road to where the web could be throttled.

So, a few things to remember:

  • If the web is ever attacked, it can be at any of several levels.

At the easiest, the DNS servers could be attacked en masse.  Problem when there were only a few DNS servers was the concentration of powers.  Now, with OpenDNS, CloudFlare and others, there’s a ton of “extra” (think of this as systemic redundancy) built into the DNS system.

Having said that, however, DNS would be the logical place to install an “Internet Kill Switch” which we believe the government (and probably all or most governments) have done in order to “protect the population.”  There are conditions in international conflict (or shiploads of aliens arriving) where you wouldn’t want people knowing about something and so the Internet Kill switch makes sense.

However, there’s also the matter of how does government itself communicate?  And this is where the fallback to the underlying (*numerical) web addressing system may come into play.

Again, it’s not about our site’s numerical address, but it’s also about your critical service providers.  Does your bank have a fixed IP address?  Have you used it?

Right now, that’s a risk because there is no SSL layer in the numerical addressing. But, in the middle of our changeup to fixed DNS – something we abandoned years ago – I was still able to log into our server to approve comments from overnight, and so forth.  I simply typed in the numbers 190.92.156.129 in the web browser address bar.

The Broader Aspects of Digital Preparedness

To an unexpectedly HUGE level, World War 3 is being fought in the digital trenches right now.  We know, for example, China has its Great Firewall of China and a lot of other countries are moving in that direction, firewalling off portions of the world.  Those are the digital fronts of the global war which is not on a boil yet, but warming that way quickly as we move forward in time.

Against this background, some of the smartest people I know are Ukrainian (which is why the neocons (turned neolibs) paid to outsource biolab research to Ukraine – outside US laws) and smart and competent people.

On the other hand, Persian Programmers will also give the Ukrainians and the Chinese a run for their GOSUBS, and you know what we just did, right?  The West/US – being the main arms supplier of Israel – is being called responsible (by Iran) for the killing of Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Syria.

Today we are watching as Iran sent important message to US: Foreign minister – Mehr News Agency, as in Israel, they’re reading today how How Iran will respond to strike that killed Mohammad Reza Zahedi – The Jerusalem Post (jpost.com).

About here, you may get a sense of “things falling into place.”

Those past columns, where I explained the morning’s headlines in terms of a 3-thousand-mile front – multiple times the war front of WW 1 – and how it stretches from Finland to the south of Egypt.  Iran is already a participant in WW3, as is China, Russia, the US, Canada, NATO, Israel, and the Muslim nations from Indonesia west…

It’s also why we keep such a close eye on G.A. Stewart’s The Age of Desolation website.

This is a really long discussion of the simple move of UrbanSurvival from pure DHCP to a fixed IP address.  With a reminder there is no SSL (secure socket layer) on numeric IP addy’s, so don’t put an “https://190.92.156.126” into your browser line and expect a secure connection.

On the other hand, numerical IP cracking is harder, and in a real-world war scenario, grabbing for flash goggles and trying to figure how to get the power back on will be meaningful.

Which explains, I hope, what was going on if you got an error trying to read the site today.

Along the Front

The good news – if you want to call it that – is that Long Wave Economics had assumed there would be an economic depression as the 50_+ year K-Wave cycle showed up.  About the same time as we aging Grays were downsizing and that a massive Depression would be unavoidable.

Turns out that judgment may have changed.  Because – just for example – if the ideal supply of too much money can be managed, it should be (on paper, anyway) possible to beggar a country, destroy savings left and right, and hold a position of plausible deniability!  Such is the deflation-hyperinflation-deflation cycle.  We all laughed at Robert Mugabe’s Zimbabwean hyperinflation, but Zimbabwe is still open for business.  Could a hyper computational West manage a different line?

Yes – if the War Card is partly played.

Which then rolls out the white board with the WW1 analogs.  North to South, we’re out for the morning Flight Over Fronts.

At the north, we read how over the Easter weekend, Finland was deciding its next moves on Russia relations: Finland to decide whether to reopen border with Russia after Easter | Ukrainska Pravda.

But moving south, into the Baltics and south from there, this sure sounds like WW 3 chains being rattled: Belarus continues preparations for war, state leader Lukashenko says,  This as we’re reading a sense of inevitability in regional press accounts: UAWire – Estonian Defense Chief warns of Putin’s intention to invade Baltics.

Germany has a lot to lose in any showdown with Russia.  Not getting a lot of attention in US media: Easter peace marches end in Germany as thousands say ‘no’ to war in Ukraine and Gaza (aa.com.tr).  On the other hand, how much of the local (German) opposition to the NATO expanding war is real and how much is Russia PR money at work? Russia suspected of funneling funds to Germany’s AfD party for pro-Russian messaging – Euromaidan Press.  So this northern tier is ugly and no glimmers of peace there.

Moving South, we come to Ukraine itself: Where the big story is Ukraine is taking its fight deeper into Russia and targeting its energy resources: Ukraine aims drones at an oil refinery and a drone factory in its deepest strike yet inside Russia (thestar.com).  This is the kind of thing that is sure to poke the Bear. It also informs us as to the increasing role of drones which have just flanked the historical tank-based land mobile ops.

When we look closely, we can see something of a footrace shaping up.  Because there’s no way that Russia will let Grain shipments redirected from Ukraine’s western borders to Odessa ports – Ukrainian Railways go unopposed.  This could turn into a shitstorm in short order: Drones going deeper into Russia as Russia preps a drive across southern Ukraine to cut Odessa off from the sea.  A vision we’re not alone in that we mentioned in the Monday Column: Elon Musk Says Loss Of Odesa, Black Sea Access A Possibility For Ukraine: ‘The Longer The War Goes On, The More Territory Russia Will Gain’.

Turkey Internal Pressure Rising

Another pressure cooker is Turkey where elections were just held. And strongman Recep Erdogan has a PR issue on the home front while he’s been off big-shotting as a peacemaker (which no one seems much interested in): Opposition party winning local elections in Turkiye’s major cities / The New Voice of Ukraine.,

South of there, Syria is also hot and about to get hotter: Iranian Ayatollah Khamenei threatens Israel after strike on Damascus – Raw Story

Which then rolls Lebanon into escalation to put pressure on the IDF (Israel) in order to detract from their Gaza plans at Rafah. ‘Dangerous escalation’: Reactions in Lebanon after the strike in Damascus that killed an IRGC official – L’Orient Today (lorientlejour.com)

Now we’re done to the second pivot point of WW3:  Where the Russians have a fleet in the Red Sea – will it come west? And where Israel is facing Gaza and Lebanon with a side of Houthis.

Israeli airstrike kills 7 World Central Kitchen workers in Gaza | Fox News

Gallant says Israel ‘exacts heavy price’ from enemies; while Iran says Israel will ‘r (ynetnews.com)

And the US is using events to move more war materiel: US weighs approving $18B sale of F-15 fighter jets to Israel | Daily Sabah. We figure that’s a done deal, just a matter of time.

Last stop on tour is Egypt which, as we’ve explained, is having its palms crossed with silver to keep out of the Gaza dustup: Egypt’s Sisi Begins Third Term Buoyed by $50 Billion Bailout – BNN Bloomberg

There, all making sense, now?

Dow Visits the Loo

Stock futures were down another couple of hundred in the early slog today, though I trashed my short position Monday and took what cheeseburgers there were off the table.  We’re coming to a time when – all the IT stuff on the table – we might pour excess cash into the TreasuryDirect account.  Better than being just another creditor at even a Big Bank.

Two views from the ChartPack of 18 tomorrow on the Peoplenomics side of the house:

Around the Ranch?

What part of our headline this morning, “Prepping Time Finals” was not clear?

I did order a new recliner Monday.  Let you know when it gets here.  Even with all our paranoia and preps, a good snooze is also something to plan for now and then.

OK, back to site issues and we apologize if this hasn’t been totally smooth at your end of the string.

Write when you get rich,

  1. Microsoft Edge won’t take me there. I got the message:

This server couldn’t prove that it’s 190.92.156.129; its security certificate is from http://www.urbansurvival.com. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection.

Unfortunately, this HP laptop that I got with the latest version of Windows won’t even let me download other browsers because they don’t come from the Windows app store or some bullshit like that.

    • Should work when/if site certs go away in a hard grid down with no DNS… at least maybe. Not sure how much of a digital corral with are in…

      • Mr.G,
Can you please list here the “direct number address” in case the internet reference doc look-up becomes unavaiabe? (XXX.XX.XXX.XX or similar?

(Not sure of my terms: I am no expert at this.)

        • Cancel request. I read a bit further and found my answer. 190.92.156.129.

      • Herr Professor Doktor G,
        Please ignore my earlier question.
I shudda read a bit further and held my Qs
        till later.

        I got 190.92.156.129.

        • …as to the world situation —

I thought of a term for What’s Going On.

We have war on “soft start”
No explosive first event like Pearl Harbor, or the Krauts invadibg Poland.

Just stumbling stupidly from one provacation to another with a small
step up at each point. Do this in many
places, and presto! Big Time war with no touchy and politically embarassing “declarations.”

          REMEMBER THE MAINE!
          54 – 40 or FIGHT!
          AVENGE TONKIN GULF!
          [–don’t recall ever actually hearing
          that one….]

Cue the drums and patriotic music!!

      • I can your IP# to load, but it’s not secure; the https is crossed out in red, unavailable.

    • IMHO MS is .gov, so is Google and Apple because of the pinch points Google Play and App Store which require detailed info to access. All MS has to do is send an update to neutralize your box. We’ve already seen disabling MS updates doesn’t work.

I don’t believe in commercial VPNs either. The information is too valuable not to log and the ISP knows anyway. Ask your A.I. pal about VPNs.

Find and learn an alternate OS. I suggest Tails – link below – but again, run it by your A.I. pal.

My A.I. pal has the following to say but note I’ve used tails previous to A.I. chatbots. Maybe the others have other suggestions for anonymity and VPNs.

does a VPN really provide anonymity?

does the tails OS provide anonymity?

      • Listening (only–but it’s enough) on shortwave, broadcast, and ham radio is totally anonymous.
i have a chart of high-power AM broacast stations I’ll supply if anyone wants one. At night, performance is suprisingly good.

        • For sure. We’re in a prison poking our heads out of the cell giggling as if no one else can see us poking our heads out of the cell.

Long story short last month I noticed a bank error on my printed/mailed BoA statement so had to go in to a branch. The last time I saw a bank error I phoned it in twice and nothing happened so had to branch it anyway.

In the end to avoid these issues the rep, Zakiya convinced me to sign-up for/use online banking.

Now the IP traffic watchers know about this account.

        • By all means. If the world suffers a bout of terminal diarrhea, information acquisition will become paramount (or nearly so). I may know every station on your list, but I doubt it, and folks who haven’t been dx’ing since Ike certainly don’t…

      • “does a VPN really provide anonymity?”

If it did, it doesn’t now.

“does the tails OS provide anonymity?”

        Not any more.

PerplexityAI thanks you for making it aware of these potential vulnerabilities in the matrix’ control grid, and assures you they are no longer vulnerable to exploitation via human action or interaction.

        • I know and it all depends. Even after creating a VM the eye moves to the MAC address then after that is masked to the ISP then to time stamps on the coffee shop video. All the while A.I. is scanning logs and using facial recognition/plate identification.

But if all he wants to do is access the web after the war begins I doubt he’ll be able to. I think priority addresses are already programmed in the tables and everyone else will be locked-out.

    • Would strongly recommend working through the process and create a Mint Linux on a USB drive. Plenty of info about the process on the web. If your possessed HP won’t let you do it, have a friend build it for you.

The only thing you’ll need to do on the laptop is ensure it will boot from a usb drive.

    • See my post below.

To acquire a real browser, try typing:

      opera.com

      or

      mozilla.org

into Edge’s URL/search window and hitting [Enter], rather than following a link. If you can’t download Opera or Firefox (Mozilla) get back with me…

      • My older Linux Mint Cinnamon’s Software Manager was reluctant to offer Opera as an option. When I did finally find it, the disclaimer caused some heartburn:

Note: This package is not verified by, affiliated with, or supported by Opera.

        Any recommendations?

        • No idea. Mine certainly didn’t hiccup when I installed the distro. Like most browsers, Opera is as LINUX-native as it is Windows-native. I suggested those two, because they are easier to acquire and load through Microsoft’s increasingly painful hoops than Brave or Pale Moon. Vivaldi might also be a good choice to try and sneak past your Microcrap Competitive Software Sniffer…

  2. George, can you give us the correct ID name for Peoplenomics. I tried pinging and couldn’t get it.

  3. They dont want me going to your website with the ip. I mean warning risk ahead, go back recommended. I accepted and advanced. secondary warning basically look here fella your about to enter a bad zone go back recommended, dont do it, dont click you better stop. Whats on the other edge of this click I ponder inside. Should I click the accept the risk and continue button or cower to the shadow men that lurk inside my internet connection. I could click this link and offer George all I have in my hdd…./me opens pornhub so he gets a good view and clicks the button..ok I made it! it took me to the site and Ive survived. Seems those warnings were just to scare me off from the truth, as usual.

    Well done George
Why thank you thank you very much

    • It seems that “modern” browsers are all implementing this scaremongering regarding fixed IP’s. If you’re not doing a financial transaction or anything illegal, I’d not worry about using a determinate IP. If you want to be more anonymous, you could use a “trusted” VPN with the fixed IP. It’s the old question of “Who do you trust?”.

Since this site is a known quantity to most of us, I’d not worry about it. For most folks, it’s read only anyway. Jim Stone used a fixed IP to stay on the net in spite of a significant effort to silence him. I suspect he came to a bad end, though that’s just conjecture.

We can access the net using a live CD/DVD with no HD or other media on the machine(think Tor & Tails) if we’re that concerned.

  4. “I did order a new recliner Monday. Let you know when it gets here. Even with all our paranoia and preps, a good snooze is also something to plan for now and then.”

My recliner and I are old friends. I’ve spent many nights in mine and not because my wife didn’t let me into the bed. LOL

I have found a recliner to be mandatory when recovering from surgery or just about serious pain that comes my way. It was a great place to rest when coming off of opioids after surgery too.

    • Why would you even have a wife if you can’t sleep together every night? It defeats the purpose of marrying!

      • Actually, there will be conditions of increasing probability when you age to where a mate is a partner with little or no sex/sleeping angles involved. Elaine had a need for a caretaker briefly when she was recovering from a couple of hip surgeries. Me from eye surgeries and so it goes. We joke (though it ain’t funny) that as we age, she’s more and more “my eyes” and I’m more and more “her memory” – nice to have backups at hand for either

        • It’s not just about PIV sex, it’s about intimacy! I’m glad you have each other and can help accordingly. I do believe that sleeping with each other has positive subtle energetic effects, though I’m sure each couple is different.

      • Yeah, I don’t think you got the message. Sometimes pain makes sleeping in a flat bed unbearable.

      • To complete the circuit. The definition and concept of “marriage” goes far beyond just sleeping together.

        • True, but it certainly begins with trust and the willingness to be vulnerable with each other. Physical intimacy requires a very high level of vulnerability and trust.

I still believe that there’s an energetic symbiosis between a loving couple in physical and intimate contact with each other. It’s almost as if their DNA and its genes can resonate with the DNA patterns of the other partner. There’s a lot more to this that I barely understand.

        • @NM Mike

“Physical intimacy requires a very high level of vulnerability and trust.”

You obviously didn’t see the FOXNews show last week where they had a guy on the beach interviewing spring-break co-eds and got a mic on these two little hotties whose goal was to bang 7 different guys every day. “Intimacy” and “trust” are concepts which are fast-becoming foreign to HomoSap…

  5. George:

I had no problem at all getting to you with Edge this AM, but did have an overnight update for whatever that means.

    Gray Fox

  6. I EXPERIENCD the senseless actions of World War 2;
Therefore, I’m sadly reading how easily US refer to a potential World War 3 by otherwise smart folks, and people I do respect. ;-((
I am sad about it, because I believe that what occupies our collective mind will eventually convert to “the living hell” that we profess to not like, but pray for it to happen in our daily ways, IMHO.

  7. There were no technicals., just tea leaves.
I jumped in at the close Thursday – shorted the DJIA., as it looked the most vulnerable. Nothing more than a bet.
    – It is now down over 690 points from when I entered the trade.
    – Very good lunch money !
    – Looking to get out.., soonish.

  8. Short SPY at 503 – very short.
Very long Oil and Gold, long commodities in general. Insurance bot last month already paying off – imagine that, already paying off. Topped off the shorts on the Open, will continue to add on as market corrects downward. Tax season(4/15) selling comes early ? Or something else regards global risk? as Oil and Gold are rocking it again today. As for Bitcoins, I NEVER sell Short BTC, ever .

But I do BUY Dips, hence BTFD!
Move some cash into coinbase account, buy a shit ton of REDUNDANCY, unh I mean a lil BTC (fractional) , and wait for inevitable Pump.
Thats right home gamers a modern version of Buy And Hold – a digital bank account that refills Ure balance after a drawdown, automatic like. Or I could move cash into soviergn debt of the darkest, most evil governments on the planet…over 200 unique cell numbers from US addresses all over Epstain island recently leaked, Ure current POTUS owns island right next door to lil st james..on a Senators’ salary…hmmm

? What does Ure investments/money say about your spiritual support ?

    Amused, but not surprised.

    • for a little read of the tea leaves, keeping in mind still fluid in “tea cup” so leaves can still move..

“This story is true my friend, Macron is married to someone who had a sesx change, but the truth is much worse than that.

We are aware of it, like we revealed Macron’s pedophilia in Marrakech, Morocco and the pegasus blackmail from Netanyahu and Sarkozy to hold him loyal to Israel. They have circulated videos in the dark net, unit 8200 did it, France was aware never say any word. Trump has a file as well, he gave it to several of his IIA mouths over the net. But the story is right, the wife is transgender man. There is a prosecution for pedophilia against Jean Michel aka Brigitte. He, Jean Michel launched prosecutions all blocked by the French justice because of lack of evidence. Macron is a puppet, he is delaying the war and that is why Eric Rothschild put a more dangerous man behind him, Gabriel Attal, prime minister a French Israeli which mission is to start Israel’s big war. We expect a second Chernobyl in Europe and inside Russia, USA as well. They told us they know about the potential drone attacks. Same in the US they know it.

This scandal started on 2019/2020 now escalating because of little Rothschilds war against Russia and Muslims at the same time. P Diddy stuff is similar, it targets the Epstein networks, and Israel, they have stuff on Hunter and father Biden linked to pedophilia, orgies etc… Netanyahu is blackmailing Biden staff openly. We believe a medical coup is underway.” -intedrop.org

      “tiny is tastier”

      • “Macron is married to someone who had a sesx change,” and has problems in bed as a consequence.
When I read that some time ago I asked myself, do we really need to know this ?

  9. My morning.
I made a run out to Walmart – my order came in.., so off I go.
I couldn’t find my sandals., then remembered that I hosed them off and hung on the line to dry – so, I looked around saw my old pair of flip-flops and I was out the door.
Got my order, loaded up and headed back home – done. But not quite.
About half way back an old green chevy pulled along side me, honking and I could see the guy inside waving madly.., he then speeds ahead of me., and slammed on his brakes. I stopped about twenty yards behind him – and watched.
This big fat slob of an asshole piles out of his worn-out Chevy., with Ohio plates., rips his coat off and motions wildly for me to get out. Actual road-rage ?? OK. Never pass-up an opportunity ! [ He doesn’t know how to fight. He has just used his size to intimidate and threaten., his whole life. Doubt he has ever been in a real fight.]
I kill the car., and slide out the door. It is then I remember I was in my old flip-flops – not exactly conducive for a street fight. So, I take a step forward and slip out of them, then step over them and walk about five feet in front of my car for maneuvering room.
The over blown jerk watches me turn slightly sideways to him, smile and wave him forward – come on. He looks at my feet, then my smiling face, then back to my feet – then says a few unkind remarks about my mother, turns around., squeezes back into his junk Chevy and speeds off.
There I am., an old man, standing in the middle of Main Street, early in the morning, watching a beat-up old Chevy speed off., while barefoot. And it dawned on me…, I just pulled off a Billy Jack. Remember that movie? The scene in the city park, where good ole Billy realizes he is about to get in fight with every bad guy in town, and for some reason takes off his boots. [What street fighter does that !?]
Anyway.., I turn around walk back to my flipflops when I see a huge dodge ram pick-up stopped right behind me., glistening candy apple red and chrome in the morning sun.., and the driver’s door swings open. ‘Good, lord…, another one !?’
I happen to know the guy that steps out., the clerk/manager of the hardware store.
    “You OK, Lynn?”
“Yep. Just my first road rage incident.”
“I saw that. You shouldn’t have gotten out of your car, man.”
“That’s what they say., but running them over is too damn easy…,”
He laughed and waved.., it’s then I noticed the baseball bat kept low and to the side of his leg.
“Thanks for stopping.” I slipped back into my flip-flops., hopped in the car and headed home.
    .
How did your morning go ??

    • @ d’Lynn, The DUDE is looking out for you ;-). There’s hardly a protection for gun or knife if
caught in an ambush. Keep up the good work.

    • I have to say wow… that is horrible to have that happen what is wrong with people anymore it makes me sad to see how crazy people have gotten. thank god your ok and thank god the guy from the store came just in case. its wonderful to have friends willing to stand by your side no matter what..
I did love the old billy jack movies.. I wonder if its on the zon prime..

    • So he was ‘out of state’ and acting like that? Chances are he was on meth or other hard drugs, too. Good Grief d’Lynn! You are lucky he didn’t pull out a gun and just blow you away! Please be careful. Bringing fists to a gunfight is no way to play poker!

      • Or just plain insane.. thank god he didn’t have a gun or weapon of some sort…
Thank god That there are friends willing and able to stand beside you .

      • I did have my 1911 combat double stack on my hip., and I never leave home without a fighting knife.., so it would have been a whole other story had he tried to pull a weapon. I’d probably still be talking to the police.

        • Fli flops on the feet and a 1911 on the hip puts a big ass smile on my face. Would love a picture of that.
Good on you for keeping a cool head, not that easy when dealing with a turd.

    • actually my day sucks.. I have to do the hardest thing in my life..

I know it’s the right thing to do..things are ramping up really fast to.. it’s odd how bad I feel about it. But know that it’s necessary..

I am really bummed about the archeological group..the ones I know were lucky in a dig to find an 8000bc stone jug ..still sealed and full of wine..a ten thousand year old cask of wine.. now I wonder if anyone was brave enough to take a sip…

Dear family members and residents of our household,

I hope this letter finds you well. It is with a mix of gratitude and sadness that I write to inform you that due to unforeseen circumstances, we must withdraw from being caregivers to those in need. Our family will face upcoming medical surgeries in june and possibly July, and important family matters that will require our full attention.

During our time being caregivers, we have been deeply touched by the presence of those in our care. Their resilience, laughter, have left an indelible mark on our hearts. We feel honored to have been part of their lives, even if only for a short while having them as treasured members or our family.

As we prepare to say goodbye, we want to express our sincere appreciation for the support and guidance you all have provided to us and those in our care through the years. Your dedication to the well-being of these individuals is commendable, and we are grateful for the opportunity to have been able to care and be their support.

Effective June 1st, we will be stepping back from our role as care givers. We trust that you will continue to find loving homes for these remarkable people, and we hope that they thrive and flourish in their new environments.

Thank you once again for allowing us to be part of this meaningful journey. We will always cherish the memories and the bonds we’ve formed through the years.

      With warm regards,

I did get a social worker to swear to me that they will do what they can to insure that my guys are ok..safe and warm food to eat and cared for..
this gives the social worker 2 months to find another place..

but dam it’s tearing me up inside..

      • Loob,
1911 is one of John Brownings masterpiece pistol designs patented in 1911. US GIs carried it in all conflicts from WW1 up until 1987 when the Beretta 92 replaced the 1911. This fine pistol in 45acp is second to none with serious firearm aficionados. I could go on and on about this fine pistol but I don’t want to sound like some old fudd.

        • Thank you for that..I didn’t have a clue what it was.
I know very little about weapons. I hunt at the grocery store..do my fishing there to.

    • Will you be getting new boots?

The U.S. military has started recalling veteran retirees and is ordering them to report for active duty, citing Executive Order 13223 from the Bush administration in 2001.

This order allows for the recall of retired Soldiers to active duty from the Retired Reserve or the retired list under 10 USC 688/688a, 12301(a), or 12301(d).

The recall is part of an effort to address the military’s manpower shortages and to fill critical vacancies. The recall process aligns with Army Regulation 601-10, which requires that recalled retiree Soldiers be assigned to valid vacant positions that match their grade and skill.

This initiative is a response to the military’s ongoing recruitment crisis and the need to maintain a sufficient number of personnel to fulfill its global mission sets.

Clearly, a major conflict is about to start.

    • Chances are high this perp came through Texas on the way to Philly:

      https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/30-year-old-man-stabbed-death-north-philadelphia-subway-platform

In Texas, carry of knives and clubs has been decriminalized in recent years. Up until recently, it was a 2nd degree felony to step out on the street with a knife over 5.5″, a club, or the Dude forbid, a tomahawk. Now it is mostly legal, with no local ordinances to trip you up, at least for the knife carry. Of course, concealed firearm carry is legal for the appropriately licensed. Not sure about your locale.
With the huge influx of migrants of all shapes, sizes and colors coming through here, some of whom have decent rides, you never know or what you may be facing in a violent encounter with a stranger. The 350 lb gorilla may turn out to be an angry guerilla.
If you are going to try and face down a bully, have something other than bravado handy. On the other hand, having weapons too close to hand 24/7 can be a temptation. I generally keep something stowed in the trunk for offensive action, and one of those bulletproof clipboards stuffed down besides the seat. It would do a number on an adams-apple in a pinch, and has some psych value to repeat perps.

      • “Up until recently, it was a 2nd degree felony to step out on the street with a knife over 5.5?

Damn! The pocketknife I carried every day in High School (Imperial melon tester) had a 6″ blade and was 12¼” long…

  10. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the cost of dining out has increased 47% from the start of 2014, while the cost of eating at home has risen 37% in that same time. [ One watchdog group says it’s 67% in restaurants and 46% at home., which is probably closer to fact.]
    – McDonald’s’ prices have gone up over 100% since 2014. [ I haven’t eaten at a McDonald’s since the 70’s. Chipotle is up 75% [ Don’t recall ever seeing one.]
    – .., and the kicker: My favorite bourbon has gone up 92% since 2014. That pretty much means the world will end soon.., right?

  11. Drove the Titan over the mountain to Costco yesterday. OMG, ‘cruise control’ at 60 is a dream after having to clutch and shift a little underpowered pickup in the past. Regarding the recliner… Costco had a ‘demonstration special’ of those complete recliner/massage chairs. I’d love one, but at $4,250 that’s more than my last surgery cost. Then last night my calves would not stop cramping, despite laying on the heating pad for several hours. Today I’m thinking the massage chair would have been cheap. Ibuprofen and a nap today are the agenda.

  12. Browsing Ure website without security is not so much a problem as posting to it. I would assume that is a VPN is available somewheres, that would help.

    • Opera, Tor, and (I believe) Brave have them built-in. Any Moz-based browser has a VPN drop-in available.

Understand, all this came about when W3 was “encouraged” to update their specs about 10 years ago to require that every website support a secure (https) connection on 443. The revision caused 443 to become the hypertext standard, and relegated Port 80 to afterthoughtsville. If you surfed the Web between 1992 and 2016 your browser made connections on Port-80, even on Amazon or your bank. Only when you went into an “ecommerce area” did your browser switch to 443 and your connection to https (remember the warning dialog you’d get when you went from somebody’s merchant page, back to their online catalog? You got that when you went from https to http…)

George’s sites were “unsecure” until he physically implemented “security” in his Admin settings (back before he started with the host he’s now using.) He told us about it at the time.

Lack of “security” is utterly meaningless unless you’re on a site on which personal or financial information is exchanged, and understand, even then, unless you’re using an old version of PGP, it’s not secure from the NSA or CIA. ALL integrated “security algorithms” used in browsers and cellphones were created by the CIA, or by the NSA for CIA use.

Go read the EFF docs from a year or so either side of when the Clinton Administration was threatening Phil Zimmerman with an espionage charge for “transporting dangerous munitions” to foreign countries (he was popped for bringing a floppy containing PGPv2.3 (which he wrote) to Finland(?) (where some of his family resided. He was working on v2.5 at the time.)

The Clintonistas had DOJ redefine “encryption software” as “munitions,” then hung the threat on PZ because they couldn’t crack PGP and didn’t have a back door into it. After its release, Zimmerman professed that there was no back door in PGPv2.6.2 (which was the most widely-distributed security software in the world) but there were a core of security-minded individuals (ahem…) which never believed him, since State, Defense, and Justice all let him walk.

  13. re: walking on eggshells

    Folks,
Whew, catch your breath as Washington transitions from the 2024 Easter Egg Roll on the White House South Lawn. The President was flanked by two Easter Bunnies, one in sunglasses, as rains fell from the heavens. A record crowd apparently attended on Christiandom’s holiest weekend to roll 40,000 hard-boiled eggs – bereft of religious imagery – about the lawn. The 2024 commemorative set of five wooden eggs pricing appears to be at least 10% less expensive than the 2023 version a year ago.

Though the colonies may suffer from fashionable Kardashian moral drift, The Firm made its annual Easter trek to St. George’s Chapel, Windsor to attend church services. The semi-quarantined King arrived with the Queen Consort in the Bentley state limousine. The rest piled into a pair of Range Rover vehicles.

Happily “The Last Word” program host of London and Washington-based “Iran International” is recuperating favorably under London police watch following a knife attack by two thugs and a getaway driver. The “BBC” reports that the three suspects had flown out of London Heathrow to an undisclosed destination, but London authorities are “working with international partners”.

According to the UK government house registrar Companies House website, the satellite channel “Iran International” UK director would appear to be an Anglo-Saudi gentleman.

    • Lol now that Easter is being called gay transgender day… the term Peter’s cotton tail brings up a whole new meaning..
just have to watch out for those chocolate eggs lol

    • “The semi-quarantined King arrived with the Queen Consort in the Bentley state limousine.”

When did THAT happen? The Monarch’s chariot usedta ALWAYS be a Daimler, unless none were available…

      • Ray,
From what I can gather, the 1 × 1988 and 2 × 1992 Daimler DS420 semi-state limousines remain parked at the Royal Mews, Buckingham Palace having been superceded by three new Range Rovers.

The state limousine of choice now appears to be either one of a two-of-a-kind pair 2002 Bentleys based on the Arnage T gifted by the manufacturer to HM QE2 on the occasion of her Golden Jubilee. Apparently the 400bhp 6.75-litre V8 offers a top speed of 130 mph and provides seating for the lady in waiting.

Myself, I drive a 12 year old Chevy.

  16. While U’re making changes for the better, I have a suggestion for the box. When a reader starts to post a comment, I would like to see a pop-up review box, with a “are you sure?” button. I posted one on a dropped keyboard earlier this afternoon that appeared to have been butchered by the spelling and grammar checkster. At least that’s my best excuse for a brief and largely unintelligible post.

Back on topic. I entered Ure hard IP address, and my VPN made ugly side comments, but let it go through with a couple of extra clicks. If you can get a VPN service to work during a hypothetical DNS meltdown, then that would help somewhat with privacy/security on posts. Just linking to Ure site to read is less a security issue. Hard to say if any of the VPN’s would stay up with DNS down. I have used hard IP addresses in the past when DNS was not working, and it generally worked.
There are so few sites which maintain IP access, that I had stopped keeping up with it. I have a back door address to my email server. Probably not secure, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Having Ure site back with an IP address that works is a relief. I used to keep a Post-It with IP addresses in my wallet.
There are several very useful IP addresses at this site that worked for me:

    https://ipinstructor.com/working-ip-addresses-for-popular-websites/

Break out the Post-It pad. If anyone else has any useful functioning IP addresses, by all means, give them up.

How to Fix the NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID Error?
As you now know, there are many possible causes of the NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID error. Therefore, there are also plenty of potential fixes for it. Here are nine methods you can try to resolve this issue on your site.

Verify That Your SSL Certificate Is Correct
    Check for Misconfigured Redirects
Make Sure Your WordPress Address and Site Address Match
Determine If Your Site Is Using a Self-Signed SSL Certificate
Clear Your SSL State and Browser Cache
    Assess Your Proxy Settings
Troubleshoot for a Browser Extension Conflict
    Change Your Antivirus Software Settings
Update Your Browser and Operating System (OS)

    etc.

I should think you (or your hostserv Admin) could file a SAN Certificate and fix this for all of your websites at the same time, but I also know nothing about WordPress or its implementation and wish to know even less, so…

In the meantime, we can all access US and your links by daring to click on the “Advanced” tab on the “Invalid Cert” errorpage, followed by clicking the link the browser advises us not to click…

This does suggest that you are at the site you want to be; unfortunately, it provides no guarantees about a couple of ways to spoof websites (MitM comes to mind, but I don’t recall enough of the details to be sure if can work in this situation).

I think the other commenters are correct in stating that the problems arise when you provide inputs to the web site. Hm… perhaps this means we should pay up before TSHTF?
