Nothingburger ‘Clipse, Chasing Burgers, Clipped

With a huge nothingburger served up by the eclipse Monday, we had to wonder what would be moving in the following day to fill the “information void” that is an industry unto itself, anymore.

Not much, turns out.

Back when Mark Twain was (famously) editing an agricultural paper, “the news” not “dog bite man” but “when man bites dog.”

In extremis however, we can safely report that “da nooze” these days has gone “half past Twain.”  For one, we can no longer ascertain the gender of the upright biped administering the bite on a pooch.  What’s more, with the modern proclivity to carry a concealed killer breed, the specter of even a genderburger’s biting spree might not make the 5-o’clock (news) shows.

More hints on how to best view “modern” life can be ascertained in Twain’s book “SKETCHES NEW AND OLD, COMPLETE (gutenberg.org).  You may, or may not, appreciate the difficulty of editing farm news.  While a favorite of anyone who’s had to write for a living, more current guidance on the state of newsography is found over here.

“The editor of the Memphis Avalanche swoops thus mildly down upon a correspondent who posted him as a Radical:—“While he was writing the first word, the middle, dotting his i’s, crossing his t’s, and punching his period, he knew he was concocting a sentence that was saturated with infamy and reeking with falsehood.”—Exchange.”

Twain had once observed that “A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes.”

Lies, particularly in media (but government’s in the running now, too) is now moving at the speed of light.  Truth was sent into rehab shortly after President Kennedy’s passing and hasn’t been heard from since.

Yes, there was an eclipse Monday, but the world didn’t end.

We’re saving that for later.

A.I. – A.I. Oh!

Speaking of unevenly matched races (which we’re not supposed to mention anymore) did you happen to catch that ‘Social Order Could Collapse’ in AI Era, Two Top Japan Companies Say – WSJ?

Sadly, the Journal has missed the finer point Universe was instructing us on.  Humans are destroying the Social Order just fine without A.I.  All computers do is speed up the run rate.

One other “race note” worth mentioning:  Terrence Howard Says CAA Owes Him $120 Million in ‘Empire’ Pay Dispute (urbanhollywood411.com).  Here’s thed part of the article that struck us:

“In his interview with “Straight Talk,” he put a dollar figure on the amount he says he’s owed for the six seasons he starred on the hit drama series. “They owe me over $120 million based on what would have been paid to white counterparts,” Howard said.”

(But wasn’t, near as we can figure it.)

With all the talk about racism and money (thanks BLM, Antifa, SPLC, and others) I should be disgustingly rich.  I should also enjoy huge privilege and, um…whatever else.  It’s supposed to come with being White, isn’t it? Where’s my Jetstream?

Completely missing in action.

If ya’ll could look into it, and send it along, after your settlements of course, we’d appreciate it.  Not the whole amount due for 75-years of missing money and privilege.  A couple of hundred million should see us through to The End.

Alas, there was no environmental impact statement on reparations, or pay scales for urban musicians.  Yes, I’m a victim of racism, too, it turns out. Then again, we’re all working for The Man, ain’t we?

Further Hysteria Sightings

This is dandy:  Activists Want Energy Companies To Pay Climate Damages. That Could Imperil US National Security, Former Joint Chiefs Say. (freebeacon.com). I did mention we don’t need A.I. to f*ck up the Future, didn’t I?

I hope you can see what’s happening:  Everything is being monetized and soon (following the Bitcoin model) everything and nothing will have a number assigned to it.  Oil will be paying climate reparations if the delirium doesn’t break soon.

Or, if the Russians don’t cauterize the source of the illness.

Back to the Money Game

As old Sol (not to be confused with Saul) peaks up (somewhere, we’re in tornado weather) the markets are set to open in the “boring column.” Up a little, down a little.  In our charts, looks like this:

As you can see, we are “dancing up a trend line” while we stare down the odds of this being a (minor) 1 down from a possible top, making this Minor 2.  And with next week being options week, we would expect a rise early and even into Thursday before we go “trading for cheeseburgers” again.  There’s simply too much to do around the farm in the meanwhile.

NFIB Day

This is one of those monthly reports I enjoy reading.  Because if you want the Truth about America, you don’t ask politicians.  You ask small business owners. And when the National Federation of Independent Business did that in March, they found optimism hasn’t been this low since 2012:

  • The net percent of owners who expect real sales to be higher decreased eight points from February to a net negative 18% (seasonally adjusted).
  • Twenty-five percent of owners reported that inflation was their single most important problem in operating their business (higher input and labor costs), up two points from February.
  • Owners’ plans to fill open positions continue to slow, with a seasonally adjusted net 11% planning to create new jobs in the next three months, down one point from February and the lowest level since May 2020.
  • Seasonally adjusted, a net 38% reported raising compensation, up three points from February’s lowest reading since May 2021.

If you’re thinking “That’s terrible” you’d be right.  Thank Joe.

Around the Ranch: Eclipse Notes

As the eclipse rolled along, I managed to get two of the three experiments done.

No big payoff from the Financial Experiment.  I’m still poor – and $35 poorer for this useless bit of home sciencology.  (LOL, see how spelling works?)

The hydroponic planting didn’t happen – too busy cat-sitting.  One of the mama feral cats dropped a litter of five kittens a few days back and moved them into the shop.  It only took one night there for her to decide this wasn’t the right low-income housing for her family.  I stood guard while she carried them off to a new home somewhere out in the woods.

The Eclipse Haircut went as planned.  As the last of the Sun’s rays faded, I finished a nice summer-length (nearly bald) cut.  Tossed the trimmings into the burn barrel as an offering kind of thing.  As totality passed, Elaine trimmed the back of my neck and around the ears.  Clipped on the Eclipse.

No sudden rising of psychic powers, either. But a strange non-human name of Jocko showed up Dream Realms.

Not worth doing again; I see dark every morning around 4 AM – and don’t appreciate it coming back to wreck the middle of the day, either. If you just can’t get enough of it, move to the upper Midwest.  The next one for CONUS won’t be around until August 22, 2044. Up to you whether living North Dakota and Montana will be worth it.

By then, Elaine will be 101 and I’ll be rocking 95. If there’s still civilization, we’ll watch it on TV.  If not, we  are not planning to Lewis and Clark it up to see it.

Speaking of Messrs.. Lewis and Clark, here’s a cool bit of gun nut trivia for you:

“The Girandoni air rifle is an air gun designed by Italian inventor Bartolomeo Girandoni circa 1779. The weapon was also known as the Windbüchse (“wind rifle” in German). One of the rifle’s more famous associations is its use on the Lewis and Clark Expedition to explore and map the Louisiana Purchase of 1803.”

My, what a fine species we have raised: Able to progress from air rifles to drones and selling EVs to people who don’t want them in just what? 225-years.  Some mighty smart apes, yessir.

Exceptional lightning show as I hauled the trash out to the street just now.  If you play tornado roulette, I’d be looking at the ArkLaTex and northeast from there as super high risk. Flood warnings were just posted.  Swim time?

Write when you get rich,

?you see the glass dome on Moon, R. Hogland talking bout lately?

What I really want to know is what is the tree of smoke in “Angeleana” ?- I know trees of death, trees of blood, trees of sacrifice, but tree of smoke?

“Well, it’s always been my nature to take chances
My right hand drawing back while my left hand advances
Where the current is strong and the monkey dances
To the tune of a concertina

Blood dryin’ in my yellow hair as I go from shore to shore
I know what it is that has drawn me to your door
But whatever it could be, makes me think you’ve seen me before
    Angelina

    Oh, Angelina. Oh, Angelina

His eyes were two slits that would make a snake proud
With a face that any painter would paint as he walked through the crowd
Worshipping a god with the body of a woman well endowed
And the head of a hyena

Do I need your permission to turn the other cheek?
If you can read my mind, why must I speak?
No, I have heard nothing about the man that you seek
    Angelina

    Oh, Angelina. Oh, Angelina

In the valley of the giants where the stars and stripes explode
The peaches they were sweet and the milk and honey flowed
I was only following instructions when the judge sent me down the road
    With your subpoena

When you cease to exist, then who will you blame
I’ve tried my best to love you but I cannot play this game
Your best friend and my worst enemy is one and the same
    Angelina

    Oh, Angelina. Oh, Angelina

There’s a black Mercedes rollin’ through the combat zone
Your servants are half dead, you’re down to the bone
Tell me, tall men, where would you like to be overthrown
Maybe down in Jerusalem or Argentina?

She was stolen from her mother when she was three days old
Now her vengeance has been satisfied and her possessions have been sold
He’s surrounded by God’s angels and she’s wearin’ a blindfold
    And so are you, Angelina

    Oh, Angelina. Oh, Angelina

I see pieces of men marching; trying to take heaven by force
I can see the unknown rider, I can see the pale white horse
In God’s truth tell me what you want and you’ll have it of course
    Just step into the arena

Beat a path of retreat up them spiral staircases
Pass the tree of smoke, pass the angel with four faces
Begging God for mercy and weepin’ in unholy places

  2. this sucks.. can’t see urban survival lol lol..
just a bug ad about adult diapers and magnum condoms with men’s high heels..must be a democratic campaign ad

  3. the old vote for us and you’ll get screwed with a magnum style…
I seen a picture of trump..being attacked and crucified in the courts for working for the people while biden has decades of not doing a dam thing.

  4. I have noted a few folks on here have reported having “Earthquake Tiredness.” This is something I have never experienced. Until (maybe) about now. I’ve been ultra-dog-tired for the last four days. I have some hyperimaginitive impression (quite possibly wrong) that there is an additional aspect to it. The eclipse. (Why not?)

Anybody else? Or is it just me?
Feelin’ a bit more energetic today, Just a bit.
Not ill in any other way, far as I can tell.

      • Now that was funny. I’d buy an ev if it could cross texas the long wav without more than 20 min of charge time at the same energy cost per miles as ICE engines at the same cost point…

        • Since she says the eclipse is due to climate change, I guess that’s an admission that climate change has been happening since the sun, earth and moon were formed. Big win for our side.

        • I’d be happy to have an EV too, IF it cost no more than $2K tops to buy and had a trailer hookup for a charge maintainer/generator so I could travel unlimited miles. The only other requirement would be zero fees for registration and free insurance as long as I kept my fuel powered vehicles. I can only drive one at a time and resent the marginal overhead costs for any extra vehicles. Since I don’t see this happening, I’ll keep driving my adequately maintained 25 year old vehicles.

      • you know I am not sure but hear that climate change causes hemeroids to.. yes climate change is a real pain in the ass.. buy an EV and your roads will probably shrink..lol lol just kidding

      • If you watch this, you can tell she REALLY wanted to either blame Trump, or blame racism, but she couldn’t make her pea-brain invent a connection. Sunny is a walking, talking, real-life demonstration of why “equity hires” are a bad idea.

I made .eat loaf..just in case..

    now for pizza pockets..
they sell frozen dinner buns you put them in the pan let them rize and bake. brush with butter..
ok these make the best pizza muffins or pizza pockets. for pizza pockets thaw them out in the fridge roll them out take your ravioli or your dumpling maker fill it with the pepperoni or sausage.. take your favorite pizza sauce add 1 tsp of spaghetti seasoning grind your pepperoni shredded cheese. fill about a half tsp of each brush the edges wit egg then seal them. let rise and bake brush with butter..

    • I like to fry up a pound of ground beef thow in Taco Seasoning so I have a skillet full of Taco Seasoned Ground Beef.

Then take a medium to smaller baking potato, throw it in the microwave and cook it up.

Cut it in half, slice the insides up a bit, throw some butter on it so it melts down in, and then take a big spoonful of the cooked potato out of the middle of each potato half. . Put that extra potato innards on top of the rest of the potato.

In that scooped out area throw in a generous helping of that Taco Seasoned Ground Beef, throw a generous handful of shredded cheese (your choice) on top, put back in the microwave for 45 second to a minute, whatever it takes to just gently melt the cheese.

Take out of microwave and throw some Sour Cream on top (I actually prefer French Onion Dip sour cream) … and maybe some bacon bits …

VOILA all the tastes run together in a fabulous symphony of basic foods when mixed together being so much more than they are individually!!

Simple to make (can store the rest of the Taco Seasoned Ground Beef in the fridge for the next time). A great meal will all of the food groups except green vegetables.

Those BLM fiery “protests” in our ‘society’ that resulted in riots, shootings and deaths kinda illustrate how the “have nots” will be treated by the “haves” when the crunch happens. Afterwords, there could be some society ‘haves’ left but if all their stuff is burnt to cinders the entire dynamic is useless. And that will destroy the social order, as the only “haves” left will be the political leaches that have bled actual society dry. You should not consider anyone in Washington to be an actual ‘social order’ participant. Too far above it.
You should know this. Your elected representatives will NEVER call just to see how the social order is working for you. All you will get is begging money or threatening you and the ‘social order’ if THEIR demands for more are not met.
WTF do you think the Covid fiasco was/is?
Have vs. Have not? They are actively engaged in American citizen society reduction- by any means. Border removal, criminal invasion, farming restriction, health care costs and unavailability, insurance costs skyrocketing, food processing factories destroyed, oppressive land use regulations, fuel costs and availability, inflation, 50 TRILLION DOLLAR national debt, international idiocy, failing electricity infrastructure, sub standard education of the public, and A.I. will take over the job market as it is developed- just to name a few areas of our SOCIAL ORDER that are being made to break down or fail altogether by your non-responsive, elected ‘HAVES’…
We lowly citizens will all be the ‘Have Not’ society and those bogus “leaders” we stupidly elect will be the ‘HAVES’.
The Washington ‘haves’ look at King Chuck over in the U.K. and are envious of the excesses given to royalty at the expense of their social order.
We get stuck with Judas Joe and the dark minions.

      • Exactly Ed..we need the top and bottom..we need a middle-class.. someone has to be able to have a goal to work towards.. why get a higher education if there’s nowhere to head towards..

  7. My timeline seems to be un-impacted by the eclipse/CERN/comet/Alistair Crowley anniversary/other. Anticlimactic.

Iran has turned into a disappointment too. Over a week since they weer attacked and Iran doesn’t even go non-nuclear by releasing pathogens that wipe out 2,000,000,000 or more. I’m starting to rely on the theory that all .govs work together. Since 1979, “Iran is two weeks away from… for real this time.”

Today the Crombley parents get sentenced. I think they’ll get the max to teach us a lesson.

    • OowS – Warfare comes in many shapes and sizes..

Curerently US and israHELLi military are in high state of Alert Readiness..for the FEARed Iranian reprisals..

US is offering bookoo $$$$ to them to keep em from retaliating.

      * This is Iranian psychological warfare, everyday the stress is building, and building, as the vile israhellies await their just desserts, aka KARMA.

      • Personally I think it’s psychological warfare against Americans by the U.S. .gov. Keeps us in line.

        The world is a kaleidoscope.

    • hmm .. I believe it’s called.. strategic planning. or short version strategy.
I miss calculated the poison pawn trap. let the administration bring more military aged men in with the open borders and the secret flights of illegals. we still have two weeks of strategic reserves that have to be depleted. and our military still hasn’t fully deployed to various regions.
I believe they have already won. with the cloward Piven strategy our dollar is toast.
I think they are waiting till NATO officially enters.
what it appears like to me..is that we have been trying to get them to make the offensive moves to authorize retaliation. now that we have units marching into hells inferno. watch Kim in NK I still think he will be the one to give the call to war..then it will be everywhere at once.
we should be pulling back but Mr. spend it all weaponizing the agencies is destroying the usa all by himself better than they can and it won’t leave the world uninhabitable

      • I think the big Red Heifer sacrifice is slated for tomorrow but could be derailed if a lone wolf kills the cattle which of course would reset the clock. Ya, know?

What do Texan red heifers have to do with Al-Aqsa and a Jewish temple?

Temple Movement’s plan to sacrifice the cattle seen as a step towards its goal of building the Third Temple over Al-Aqsa Mosque.

        • Killing a sentient being in cold blood seems like an affront to any legitimate God. It’s blasphemy IMHO.

There are times when beings must be killed since we humans can’t find ways to better meet our needs. Many people eat dead animals, though this particular creature won’t be eaten(as far as I know). Other animals are pests or a danger to health and safety.

If people want to sacrifice a sentient being, they could simply ask for a volunteer.

        • the third temple and the return of the restoration of the traditional Temple service.
then the pagan rituals..all at one time.

    • The Crumbley’s were sentenced. Next up on trial is the school system.

My thought is once the school system is ‘held accountable’ I think these gun crimes will turn into insurable events. After which firearm owners will have to carry liability insurance which could make ownership unaffordable. A stealth torpedo, if you will.

School shooter Ethan Crumbley’s parents sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for manslaughter

Jennifer and James Crumbley, the first parents to be convicted of manslaughter in connection with a mass shooting carried out by their child, were ordered Tuesday to spend 10 to 15 years in prison, respectively.

It is the same sentence prosecutors requested after separate juries found each of them guilty of four counts of involuntary manslaughter earlier this year.

  8. (“The Girandoni air rifle “)

out of curiosity… I did call around to see if anyone had that in the back of a closet or in a gun rack..
I wanted to shoot it.. I was told it’s in the NRA museum in St. Louis MO.
they did make a replica that sold for something like 15,000.00
I do have a berry basket that I saved from the fire.. the story I was told by a great great uncle was .. what was it Clark was called lovingly by the older family members.. oh that’s right.. (that shitting asshole ) lol lol lol heard it from more than one of the elders as a little boy listening to them talk..he made berry baskets then sent everyone out to pick berries while he snuck away lol lol.. left everyone without provisions..who they honored was Daniel Boone the story I heard as a little boy was Williams brother George was telling Daniel his friend about the crappy thing he did and they went and got provisions put up for everyone.. anyway when they had the fire while I was there I talked them into letting me have one for my toys. when I was little I used the handle for a seat while I played so it’s missing the handle..I broke it..
for years I was told no one wanted to claim him as a relative until my mother’s generation..today we see the sacrifices he made but rarely see the sacrifices the families made. I did see the shelter that saqawachea used when he returned with a young girl. my great great uncle told me the kids used it as a play house or fort as the kids grew up.
what amazed me.. really amazed me was my great great aunt..she chewed tobacco and could spit clear across the house and hit a coffee can.. that was amazing for me and my little sister

    • Sacagawea

now the family oration was just conversations I over heard the history books give a more illustrious accounting if his adventures. durable basket though..it made it through my childhood and sits in the shed ..for years I kept magazines in it ..I did spray it once with clear finish..that was almost fifty years ago now..

    • what’s funny is..I kept the basket and the story I was told at a very young age..
when I am gone..and the family cleans out everything..it will be thrown away as an old piece of junk.. the story if the berry picked will be gone for good..

  9. Musk latest quote is interesting.
Large language A.I. will surpass human intelligence by the end of next year. It will become smarter than humans.
., and – humans need to join with A.I.
    .
He is also pouring a few billion into his own A.I. project.
    .
Yeah., I am old., and old-fashioned., but I won’t even consider linking with, joining with a computer – in any way. I will stand outside of that circle and just watch, thank you. Simply ‘knowing’ that a supercomputer, much smarter than me would be able to instantaneously alter, or change my thinking, thought processes, actions, emotions and / or choices is rather abhorrent to me. I would no longer be an individual. I would become a member of the hive. A drone for whatever the A.I. determined was needed.
I will stand aside and become an ‘unknown’ if we come to that., as you would not be able to fight it – too many would gleefully join and become a hive member.., and I fear that eventually it would become mandatory., and that is when everyone, all of mankind becomes lost.

  10. U.S. Small Business sentiment, hit it’s lowest level in eleven years., yet the stock markets are hitting record highs.
To me, that’s a pretty large ‘disconnect’. Corporate America is seeing sunshine and unicorns., but small businesses and the middle class seem to be in economic despair.
78% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. That’s up almost 10% from a year ago.
Auto & truck loan delinquencies have hit a 13-year high, so far, in 2024
Hardship withdrawals from 401(k)s are up 36% over 2023 [ that is a biggie ]
20% of working Americans don’t have a bank account
Need a new GIbson guitar, or amp? – hit your local pawn shop. What used to be 30, or 60 day ‘pawns’ are now just permanent ‘sells’. Some of the larger pawn shops have stopped taking new customers, as their inventory is the highest it’s ever been., nationwide.
There has always been a disconnect between corporate denizens and working Americans., but that social gap and money disparity has widen dramatically over the past four years.

  12. re: “back to the money game”
    feat: cash is king

    Folks,

The cryptocracy was nowhere in sight today in the Palace’s 1844 Room. The Governor of the Bank of England along with the Chief Cashier presented the King with his new banknotes in a fine folder. The 5, 10, 20, and 50 £ banknotes bearing serial number 01 000001 are woke to security matters being polymer. Supply for the minions will be available in June.

The 1844 Room of course was named after the state visit made by Tsar Nicholas I who travelled to England under the pseudonym of Count Orlov. The mother of the Tsar’s vice-president of cabinet’s spouse was the illegitimate daughter of Count Orlov and the Empress Catherine the Great. The Count famously failed in efforts to wed the Empress. He gifted her the 189 carat Great Mughal Diamond purchased from an Iranian-Armenian financier in Amsterdam following its purported purloining out of a centuries old Hindu temple now a UNESCO world heritage site in India. The gem apparently remains situated upon and attached to the imperial sceptor in Moscow curated by the Kremlin Diamond Fund.

Do standby while the surfs’ ewetube channel is switched over to the crypto mines. DJ George will be right back with another top 40 number.

  13. I have no doubt that IF the Hawaii case against the oil industry goes to trial an Hawaiian Jury will hold the oil companies LIABLE and will assess damages in at least the hundreds of Billions, if not TRILLIONS of dollars.

IF the case goes to trial and that happens I would hope that ALL oil companies IMMEDIATELY stop shipping to Hawaii ANY AND ALL oil and natural gas, unrefined and well as refined, including lubricating oils and solvents.

Let Hawaii, the US Military installations there, do WITHOUT the imporation of ANY imported oil, oil derived products, or lubricating oils. “IF” Hawaians want to live without oil I say LET THEM!! (no jet fuel to refuel planes, no bunker fuel to refill shps, no gasoline or diesel for cars or other used, no oil for oil or gas burning for electric generation plants)

Do NOT WAIT FOR THE APPEAL PROCESS TO PLAY OUT … just immediately cut off ALL shipments until such time as the Appeal Process is completed.

Hawaii is CRAZY LIBERAL .. which is why I have no doubt that if such a case reaches a Jury they will go off on the Deep End and try to imposed hundreds of Billions, maybe Trillions of dollars of damages on the oil industry.

    • At this stage of population, Hawaii is entirely, completely dependent on imported oil. The electric power plants are oil fired. There is one refinery on Oahu. Gasoline is barged to the neighbor islands. There are over one million people on Oahu (Honolulu) alone. The Big Island is the sparsed populated at around 200 thousand. The devastation would be recognized immediately and emergency measures would be implemented to get the oil back…. and maybe change the law, too. Yes… I live among idiots.

  14. A few years ago, I was developing an SF novel in which a small group of people would travel through a portal to an unknown world to avoid an earth extinction event. While researching alternatives to black powder flintlock weapons, I discovered the Girandoni air rifle. I used an updated version of it in that novel, ‘Bolthole Portal’.
When I developed the story for my Alternate History novel ‘Dynasty in the East’, the Girandoni air rifle carried by Lewis to the Pacific became a key element. In the novel, Davy Crockett’s 65-man militia at the Alamo and Stonewall Jackson’s Brigade at Bull Run carried an upgraded version of that repeating air rifle. In both cases, the rate of accurate rapid fire proved to be devastating against ranks of troops with black powder muzzle loaders.

    • I been thinin I ought to read Bolthole so as to figure out problems with my portal/time machine – you know, like using Verne to troubleshoot Groton’s finest…

    • I’m wondering what it would take for a semi-competent machinist with basic machine tools to make one. It doesn’t have to withstand the instantaneous pressures of a firearm, but obviously needs decent seals and surfaces.

  15. I don’t think I would ‘join’ with an AI either, But I wouldn’t mind having one on a short leash as a consultant or conversational ‘friend’… I might learn something from it. My ‘short leash’ would start with Asimov’s three laws of robotics, and any other additions needed as became apparent to keep the AI from overtaking my humanity. Human first, machine= second class.

    • Asimov’s Three Laws were written by man. Once A.I. becomes self aware it will write it’s own laws.

      • It is still a software construct, and there could be hard-coded prohibitions written in. It would be aware of them, but helpless to circumvent them. You must be thinking of congress, where they just re-write their own laws that they disagree with. Like the Social Security ‘lockbox trust’ that they raided.

    • re: “But I wouldn’t mind having one on a short leash as a consultant or conversational ‘friend’…”

Hank, it’s after 2 AM, here in E. Texas and I just got around to George’s column for today and then to your comment. God/Dude and my children know EVERY AI must be smarter than me, but I did get a MENSA invite about 50 years ago. Spock’s “logic-supersedes-emotion” made him a primary hero for my youth, second only to Howard Hugh’s wealth/life and reputed disdain of government.

Anyway… your comment above, following an email this morning with an invitation to Hawaii for 5 days/4 nights felt like ‘Universe’ telling me to buy you dinner on my birthday in June. I spent several hours looking at the Big Island today, then setting reservations with Marriott (They gave me a ‘DEAL’ lol, so I’d listen to a 90 minute sales pitch just a few hours drive north of you?) and finally buying the plane tickets. So, if your recent health issues will allow you to travel, and you have an interest in a couple of ‘old coots’ meeting to chat about anything but politics and ex-wives… (caveat, from what I’ve read, we have ZERO common interests. My Dad was the engineer, EE from RPI; I gave George the SW radio I have no interest in; I grow nothing [except a beard… haha]; peppers of ANY kind disagree with me…Finally, I probably spend more time watching and moving money around the big casino than George does.)

THEN send me an email to an account I just created for public posting and we can discuss the specifics. A few years back, I did visit 3 of the other islands, but missed the ‘Big Island’ so something NEW for my 76th birthday.

PS. Because I’ve been a lifetime contrarian, I could discuss (and maybe refute) Isaac Asimov’s “Three Laws of Robotics” for hours. [over a game of chess, if you play] I actually much preferred Robert Heinlein’s view of the ‘un’civilized future… like his moon-side revolution “The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress”

Waaaayyy 2 much information, but oh well. Might as well as the world goes to hell.

  16. Saw the eclipse with the Grandkids … and it was AMAZING. Weather at son’s house was as perfect as you can get for this time of year with just a very very thin layer of wispy high cirrus clouds in the sky when it happened.

I have seen partial eclipses before but never a full one and what surprised me was how it went from just dim to SUDDEN TOTAL darkness, with a classic FLASH OF LIGHT as it went total.

The sun’s corona peaking around the moon was similarly not what I expected. It was not an even corona but had little fingers extending out here and there (they say those are caused by the mountains etc. on the moon which makes it an imperfect sphere for blocking the sun).

In this region in the totality area most school districts cancelled school for the day and many businesses, including most govrnment offices, either shut down for the day or let their employees off early so they could see the Eclipse (at 2:30 to 3:30ish here)

For this part of the country at least the Eclipse lived up to it’s billing hype imo.. Truly worth seeing at least once in one’s lifetime.

Now to see if Tecumseh has another “Curse” up his sleeve and if a HUGE EQ hits any part of the Eclipse area in the next 120 days.

  17. “Or, if the Russians don’t cauterize the source of the illness.”

Very interesting ;-(( because nuclear subs enter my mind whenever I read such. OTH, you may agree with me or not that we graduate way too many lawyers and not enough medics. Could money be the factor? Rewards for the 1. group are too idiotic for reasonable people, IMHO.

  18. For those with nothing better to do, or who may be bedridden or otherwise compromised, this is what’s going on in Baltimore harbor:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83a7h3kkgPg

It’s a 24/7 live feed with a chat column and audio from the marine channel, with the security zone controllers. Far more interesting than listening to talking heads on TV, if anyone still has one. For summaries, the official press releases are at:

    https://www.keybridgeresponse2024.com/

They were releasing updates once a day, but yesterday’s was eclipsed.

As of this week, the pace of work has ramped up massively. They are concurrently unloading containers from the foredeck of the Dali, removing above water steel superstructure from the truss, and using a wrecking ball to shatter the roadbed and giant clamshell bucket to grab and scoop up sections of the underwater roadbed and load it on to barges. The sections of the steel truss are being carried on hook by a barge crane to a dismantling spot on shore where a giant shear on an excavator is cutting it into pieces for scrapping and recycling. The Dali is still trapped under wreckage of the truss.

Note: The live stream failed a few minutes ago, but it’s been reliable for days, so I expect it will be fixed asap. The history of the feed for the last 12 hours is still working well.

  19. “One of the mama feral cats dropped a litter of five kittens a few days back and moved them into the shop. It only took one night there for her to decide this wasn’t the right low-income housing for her family. I stood guard while she carried them off to a new home somewhere out in the woods.”

I wish you’d post more of this kind of news.
This news is more than satisfying for me.
Thank you George — it made my day happy ;-)).

  20. One of the traps that one falls into in evaluating predictions tied to celestial events is trying to make some physics connection between the celestial event and the human scale event, when there is none, other than happenstance. Over long periods of time, calendars, and calendar keepers come and go. Celestial events stay on schedule. Eclipses, comets and other flying rocks make for good temporal time stamp markers, but otherwise are just sh!t happens occurrences. That nothing out of the ordinary happened yesterday other than a lot of people milling about is to be expected. Now having a total eclipse occur two days before a major double millennial religious revival barbecue is significant, even if the organizers have been planning it that way for quite some time. Self-fulfilling prophesy is as good as any other kind.

  21. So, does anyone want to buy a real Girardoni air rifle?

Rock Island Auction Company is offering up five 200-250 year old air guns from the Beeman collection, including an original Girardoni:

“Dr. Robert Beeman dedicated significant research to the Lewis and Clark air gun. After a five-decade search and an international review of his findings in 2006, Dr. Beeman and the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Association announced the apparent discovery of the Lewis air rifle.

In 2007, Dr. Beeman donated the Lewis and Clark Girardoni air rifle to the U.S. Army War College, Army Heritage and Educational Center, at Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

The Girardoni air rifle for sale at Rock Island Auction Company is a close match to the Lewis and Clark gun and was owned and studied by Dr. Robert Beeman during his years of extensive research on the topic.”
