Although earlier futures were soft, markets don’t feel like they are really ready to “roll over” until events coming this weekend.
But, in the meantime, we are pondering just how deep America’s political corruption runs.
What sets off this line of inquiry was the story about how a Judge rejects Elon Musk’s $56 billion pay package, despite shareholder vote.
Normally, we wouldn’t give a hoot in hell about such a report. Elon’s just going to go make more dough. And the Tesla board could award him anything they want. But, you see, there’s an angle to this story that bothers me.
The “right role” of a judge, as I was taught, is to at some level “maintain harmony.” We haven’t looked into the politics of the shareholders who didn’t want Musk to get a HUGE payday. But we did find ourselves asking something like this:
“Given that Elon Musk is now part of the Trump inner circle, is it remotely possible that a democrat jurist – given a chance to screw one of the shining stars of the “other party” – might rule against Trump for other than purely legal reasons?”
How might such a miscarriage of Justice occur? Well, if a democrat governor were to appoint a capable but competent lawyer, it might all look fine on the surface. Until – you look up the political inclinations of the judge who ruled against here.
Now, were you to do that, you’d find the judge have given modest contributions exclusively to democrat candidates. While this is proof of nothing (but useful contextualizing for Musk), we sure wish the political contribution data were more timely. Because we’d be fascinated to know about the judge’s more recent (like this cycle’s) contributions.
It’s just another one of those things that makes you go “Hmm…”
Yep, a liberal Harvard educated, democrat appointed, democrat contributor, just screwed a republican rising star. What could possibly be amiss?
Democrat Slams Elsewhere
It gets worse. Democrats are clearly making a rapid transition into Obstructing Trump mode at every turn. A second example may be seen in how Trump’s pick to lead Defense Department chanted ‘Kill all Muslims’ at US veterans’ group event: Report.
Well, except about that “report.” Came from the New Yorker magazine. Which Media Bias Fact Check labels biased left: New Yorker – Bias and Credibility – Media Bias/Fact Check.
Far be it for us to criticize journalism (especially of the left), but a bit about the Trump pick was glossed over. Here, let me help. Just a few years before this 2015 (alleged) event, Mr. Hegseth was in the military according to Wikipedia.
“During his time in Iraq, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and a second Army Commendation Medal…
“Hegseth returned to active duty in 2012 as a captain.[17] He volunteered to deploy to Afghanistan with the Minnesota Army National Guard to train Afghan security forces.[9] In 2014, Hegseth was promoted to the rank of major and left active duty to be assigned to the Army Individual Ready Reserve (IRR)…
He was doing exactly what military training programs promoted in this period. You don’t get highly motivated and whipped up for the frenzy of battle by promoting, oh, cross-dressing, for example. Though tthat’s now Forgiver Biden’s stock-in-trade.
Of course, when hard training really “takes” you get a highly motivated soldier. (Who we ask to step in front of bullets for us.)
When a highly motivated soldier gets pissed about things (like the Muslim Brotherhood infiltration of Amnerica) during the Obama administration, that results in what? Anger. Booze replays battles. When in 2019 (after the alleged incident):
“Hegseth was one of 12 national guardsmen flagged as a potential insider threat and removed from the group providing security for the presidential inauguration of Joe Biden.”
Which – were we writing a “whole context story” – might have implied democrat operatives were “targeting Hegseth as early as 2019.” Seems to us the New Yorker was slow getting the word.
I don’t know how many recently retired military officers you know. But the ones I know are furious about the ongoing infiltration by Muslim Brotherhood, aided by guilt-ridden liberals in key government roles. Suckers. It’s common among officers I know.
“The Brotherhood has been designated as a terrorist organization by multiple countries including Eygpt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The United States has designated multiple Muslim Brotherhood affiliates as terrorist organizations, including Hamas.”
And yet…people are not clearly thinking about who – and where – our enemies are. We were hoping Ms. Bondi, and Mssrs. Gaetz and Patel could move the ball downfield a bit.
But in the meantime, sure, it’s possible Hegseth might have said something (a decade ago) that offends the modern stooges of the left today. But there’s more to it, as we see it.
Democrats are flailing and failing. You can bet that at every corner they will deny, obfuscate, and offer half-truths and incomplete contexting from days long ago. Then was not now…but people forget. They work the memory hole.
The New Yorker story, interestingly, brought up the ancient example of Texas senator John Tower. To Wiki it: “In 1989, incoming President George H. W. Bush chose Tower as his nominee for Secretary of Defense, but his nomination was rejected by the Senate.”
The New Yorker story platforms loud-mouth democrat Richard Blumenthal to cast aspersions not only on Hegseth but also Tower.
This is where being an old reporter is useful: I knew John Tower well enough to have played poker with him on a Boise Cascade business jet as we flew all over Washington State back in 72, I think it was. Yep, we both drank a fair bit of scotch.
But the point – with ass-kicking real Americans in military positions – all comes down to one thing: Would you follow that man into battle?
I haven’t had a scotch with Hegseth, but seems cut of the Tower cloth.
Such attack stories are diversions. They angle to hide that we are (or at least once were) a kick-ass country with nothing to apologize for. We have gotten a lot of things wrong, sure. But never with malice. We did what circumstances dictated.
My retired officer friends are appalled at the sissification of America and the slurs on people willing to die for this Great Nation.
And if you don’t like it, go put on a dress. The biggest threat we face is not a lean and mean Russia or bristling nukes in China. It’s the soft weasel class working the home front. Telling us not to be men, raise a little hell, and kick some serious ass when required.
Still not seeing it? Maybe you’ll look good in a size 8.
We keep seeing the poo pile higher: Sunny Hostin Read Another Legal Note after Smearing Pete Hegseth. And on it goes. Governor Ron DeSantis sends a message to the Senate Republicans considering voting against Kash Patel for FBI director.
TDS is alive. Isn’t there a vaccine for it, yet?

At the Ranch: Ure’s Drone Crash
Our consigliere – on the road back to snow country in Ohio today – may still be snickering.
Seems when we were putting up the second ham radio antenna with a drone Sunday, the wind caught the invisible fishing line and it snagged on a tree.
Then, as the drone passed another tree, it all snagged.
The drone props caught the line and next thing I knew, it was stuck at the top of an 85-foot pine tree.
The problem? Do you grab a chainsaw and cut down a $150 tree, or do you order a used replacement drone on eBay for $129 (which also comes with two batteries and another controller)?
Easy choice.
But it gives me something to do today: Binoculars on the tree, trying to see just where it is and whether it’s worth risking climbing gear. Yeah, I know. Just let it go…
Write when you get rich,
George@Ure.net
I have shot vines out of a tree with a shotgun…
IMO: slingshot another line over the now tangled one and bring the whole shebang down. Or, start an online pool on what day (month?) it comes down on it’s own. I’m betting on a windy day but … haven never been good at conjuring up breeze. So, put me down for January 3rd, 2025. Egor
ps – fly a drop of stronger line over the tangled line with drone 2? Nah, seems like a cartoon. Acme?
I also have shot the breeze now and then.
do you have a link to your $129 drone?

Of course! We just don’t count.
When my kids were young we used to fly a huge dragon kite. I loved that thing. it was amazing in the air. Someone dropped the stick (the string wasn’t tied off) and away it flew. We chased it for a long time before it came down. We were lucky.
We left a few paper kites caught in trees. Many a time I wanted to climb after one, especially when we weren’t done with our fun. Perhaps the wind will unstick it for you.

LOL LOL LOL…Phew that makes me feel a lot better been there myself LOL LOL LOL
The older grandsons and I built a beautiful Ornathopter to show the kids the magic of flight..
this one isn’t it.. but close enough..
https://sciplus.com/flying-bird-ornithopter-toys-davinci-design/
the kids colored the body and made it look like a bird.. we put it together.. and I aimed it to the southwest… it took off we watched in wonder.. there was a whole city block of clearance.. it flew two blocks.. then the wind or what.. it turned around and flew back and landed on top of the big building across the street.. I get the ladder out.. only to discover it was just shy tall enough.. got up got the bird.. and slid over the end of the building and climbed down.. but it was a nervous journey..
then the girls went to the park.. with the boys and they took the ornathopter with.. it flew way up in the air.. then landed on top of a tree.. do I figure out how to get it down or just quick buy another one LOL LOL LOL LOL
I have used a .22 rifle to clip a limb holding one of my RC airplanes. It can be done, if done carefully. Directly under the tree to be clipped, so projectiles come down via gravity without any angular velocity. The fishing line issue may make things harder, as there are more limbs to clip.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law on Tuesday in an emergency national address televised live.
Yoon said the decision was made to protect freedom and constitutional order, as he accused the opposition of trying to paralyze the administration with impeachment moves.
“Through the declaration of martial law, I will rebuild and protect a free South Korea,” Yoon said, adding the decision was “inevitable.”

I’m sure others will have more (and better) ideas…
And an American gold coin. And maybe a silver coin too.
Great suggestions from many folks here, including your list, George. I like the ideas of him giving her important tools, keepsakes, and some wealth. I also like the idea of a time capsule with keepsakes and photographs of the older gentleman throughout his life, from a kid, youth, young man, middle age, and a senior, as well as what was going on in his life and what his feeling were at each stage. Included would be photographs of his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, etc. and places of significance.
I am reminded of the very poignant country song, “You should have seen it in color”. The song depicts an older man showing black and white photographs of his life, as he describes the important photos in an album. The first one shows him as a skinny kid along side his brother set during the Great Depression. The second one shows him in World War 2 in uniform with a soldier friend from a different part of the United States. The third one shows him on his wedding day.
He might also give her the names of people who she should meet and why. These people could be relatives, friends, or noted persons of trust.
George has some fine suggestions. May I suggest a photo of you holding your grandchild and possibly a short story or message. Remember “things” have a way of getting lost in the clutter as we age but the one thing that we will never lose is Hope as long as we have Faith.
Best to you.
Most important, tell her every chance you get how much you love her. Hug her and when she says “I love you Grandpa,” get a big lump in your throat. You both win and memories are all we have at the end.
An other old man
amen…
everyone that comes to our home..gets a hug and drive safe ..and a message of how much they mean to us.. that way if something should happen .the last memory if us would be that last farewell . no thoughts of boy I wish I had one mire chance to say…
A framed picture of you when you were a young man. A letter saying how much you love her. Do you have a cherished item like a belt buckle, a harmonica , an arrowhead you found once, a watch from your father?
a memory book ..photos of the two of you together.. what she liked .. what things you both did ir do together..a recording if you and her having a fun enjoyable visit.. I built dressers for all the kids .. in a compartment to only be found long after I am gone is a small memory book..the kids art..( most precious to me than anything done in history my Rembrandt) I frame and hang their art as well.. they come into the house there in an honored spot is a picture they drew ir colored
.way better than any picaso .more treasure blessings than anything around..add a few pictures if their artwork…Walmart has a thing where they make memory books cheap..hard covered.. add a plastic envelope with the conversation recorded. my father had a pocket recorder he put his shopping list on forty years ago .. every once in a while I plop a battery in just to hear him talk..he loved to sing and he put a few xmas carols in it..
the gift of a love the most precious gift

youse already know what the BCN will suggest – Bitcoin..a whole, a partial, fractional – dont matter it will stand the test of time.
You will need a Trezor hard wallet (trezor.io)-https://r.mailing.trezor.io/mk/cl/f/sh/1t6Af4OiGsDg0Ys6SKuj9lIPLw1044/z2kZVY-EO69s
You will need to set up an acct at COINBASE – easy peasy, no worries Gpops.
Now you have a box/present inside of which is Trezor holding some amount of BITCOIN, A couple of pictures and a Love note.
You can do it Pops!
You know..years ago you could buy stocks and firms like Disney offered to frame the stock certificates as gifts for a child… now the idea of a BC certificate of value all decorative…isn’t that bad of an idea. even if the BC ends up to be nothing more than a number on a screen the child would still have the memory. I have a hundred dollar bill Confederate from the civil war.. as a momento..in the end all we have are a few photos. a couple of boxes of assorted crap. and the memories of what you stood for.
Ahhh but do have a Christmas Pickle ?
I got our family Christmas Pickle from the Spaceweather kids in Dr Tony Phillips class. It was launched into atmosphere on weather ballon..they even included a couple pieces of ballon.
It gets even better for a pickle puss in Philly area during the holidays – why?
The Feast of The Seven Pickles is this year at The Fishtown Pickle Project !

You must have gotten the memo…
I’d be fine having that Chinese girlfriend, but I could never abide communism, or even leftism. Many Chinese are very good at business, so the business partner idea could have worked too. Then again, I never had a clearance or any national secrets to trade. I suppose I could just make some up if I was a better storyteller.
funny.. I have never er known a person from china that was nasty or impolite..I walk into my favorite restaurant and I am treated like an honored member of the family..having one as a girlfriend I sure wouldn’t have an issue with it. now I know one of the girls once asked me if I wiuld be afraid to visit china.. I said no..there are nasty people everywhere.. just stay away from the nasty people. those that follow the virtues of china.. ( we have them to..called the ten commandments) moral and ethical .. the something with Russian ladies or egyptian etc.. be the blind man..a blind man only knows how you treat them and the people around them..they don’t care what your wearing or how many numbers line a sheet of paper..

[Five years ago.]
I put my antenna up into an eighty foot tree using my crossbow. It’s a 120lb – with a fishing reel attachment. I used the line that was already in the reel. Worked very well – except my math was faulty and the bolt sailed through the tree and went much further downrange then I had anticipated. Luckily it hit nothing else and ‘landed’ safely on the other side of the koi pond. Disconnected the fishing line from the reel, hooked-up the antenna and pulled it up through the tree on the first try. Math puts it at roughly 74 feet up.
Worked out very well – I even impressed myself.
Maybe, if you had hit the Squirrel in 1st place?
That’s why the spinning reel and laser are on my crossbow pistol. It’s only a 90-pounder. My real crossbow is 265, and unusable…
George, please have Elaine take and post a picture of you with climbers and a belt 80 feet up in that tree. It would be a keeper!

With several other ‘numbers’ ignoring the consumer credit-crunch, the dollar is still the strongest currency in-play and Trump is running around like a junk-yard dog., economically-barking at everyone – I do not see how we can have a sell-off – or a recession.
.
It is going to take something on the verge of “.., damn ! – did you see that !?” -for either of these two scenarios to happen.
I wonder if you realize just how powerful and “big” the S&P500 really is.
If you take all the stock markets in the E.U. and the U.K. combine them for a total sum – they still would not match the valuation of the S&P.
It truly is the 600 pound gorilla in the room.
Doesn’t sound like a recession in the works to me.

The ISM Manufacturing PMI for the US increased to 48.4 in November 2024 from 46.5 in October, beating forecasts of 47.5. The reading pointed to another albeit softer contraction in the manufacturing sector. New orders rebounded after seven months of contraction (50.4 vs 47.1) and production (46.8 vs 46.2), employment (48.1 vs 44.4) and inventories (48.1 vs 42.6) contracted less. Also, price pressures eased (50.3 vs 54.8) and the supplier deliveries index indicated faster deliveries (48.7 vs 52).
Demand remains weak – but across the board companies are gearing-up as this election has finally been settled in their favor.

The problem with the Tesla board, it is not an independent board, the members are loyal to Musk, not Tesla. They had similar board issues when they bought Musk’s dying company solarcity and bailed Musk out of the money burning venture. But I don’t disagree, for the most part Tesla can pay whatever they want to Musk, though I don’t believe the board as it exists would ever be able to stand up to Musk and say no. So investors do have some recourse for public companies if the company boards are not doing their fiduciary duties. That is one of reasons, I was always hesitant to invest directly in Tesla because there is no one that would ever tell him no. Clearly my decision has not been proven a financial windfall, cause stock is up, but if you cannot trust the company leadership to do the right things under pressure, they shouldn’t get your support by buying their stock.
Musk is able to get people that work for him to do some amazing things. But he is a liar and a big beneficiary of public monies. Full self driving is one of his most extraordinary fibs. But there are many, the solar tiles, the funding secured to take Tesla private. The timeline for Starship and “Mars” all fabrications. He is a strange man the way he seems to treat his family and the mothers of his children. To each his own, but not someone I am not happy that Trump is associating so closely. You can tell a lot about a person on who they surround themselves.
Elon has his quirks, but all in, I believe he’s a good man and loyal to his adopted country. I think he works hard to be good to his women, but women don’t understand an autistic personality easily, if at all. I know he cares, though he’s not terribly good at showing it on an emotional level.
My greatest concern regarding Elon is that if he fails, he has no equivalent for backup, and he’s spreading himself thinly across his multiple interests.
re: Pax Romana
feat: “Six Days” of Ambrose
Folks,
Times are a ‘changing next month. Are the new Jaebeol the same as the old Chaebol? South Korean politics makes the Pops and First Son escapades look like altar servers by comparison? Current msm images of a chopper over the soul of a nation could evoke screen grab memories in hindsight of Moby’s 2020 video “Power is Taken” featuring a late drummer of The Dead Kennedys.
The current president of South Korea is the fourth in his post as a follower of the Holy See. His baptized name “Ambrose” might suggest an affinity to that patron saint of Milan whose archbishop became Pope Paul VI. Visions of the current wealthy South Korean First Lady coalesces with a doctorate of disputed provenance and linkages to a cult-like church whose late leader nicknamed “Rasputin” offering up mentorship to a past president created conditions for the latter’s resignation. Historic meetings at the Testa Rossa (Red Head) Italian restaurant in Seoul surely warrant bucket list addition of the venue for tourists desiring a more sated Gangnam experience.
One expects elves of the DJ George drive home program to delete outrageous mosh pit requests for a 9/11/24 performance of “Mar-a-Lago Uber Alles” by The Dead Kennedys. Instead this afternoon’s drive home setlist kicks off with an old chestnut from the “Rubber Soul” album. Here’s a recreation from Milan by one of the Fab Four members himself, Paul McCartney, with –

Folks,
It appears from Western msm coverage that President Biden has travelled to “the city of Angola” for a trip previously postponed by the recent hurricanes.
One imagines coverage of Tucker Carlson at the gates of the Kremlin may be pre-empted. Certainly it would be fitting should FM Lavrov conduct their interview from Building 14.
Here is a YouTube link to Tucker Carlson’s interview teaser.

They use lasers to trim trees on power lines in Asia…
Maybe get a laser with a good scope and cut your drone free?? You got a laser that might melt fishing line in that monster shop of yours??
Just a thought…
Good to hear from you – always a cold vodka next trip north…
I’ve got a Class 4, 5-watt blue laser that will start a fire. That ought to do the trick.
“Democrats are clearly making a rapid transition into Obstructing Trump mode at every turn.
…Just a few years before this 2015 (alleged) event, Mr. Hegseth was in the military according to Wikipedia.”
Two points:
1) the “source” of the vast majority of the maligning of Pete Hegseth (not just this “New Yorker thing” but also other haranguing), is a former female co-worker whom Hegseth refused to bed, and eventually fired.
2) The principal private funding source for Wikipedia is George Soros, who is also a significant contributor to MBFC.
(Wait’ll A.I. hits with its full force. It will obsolesce every fact-checker in the world, overnight! It won’t “improve” fact-checking. It will so obfuscate data that accurate fact-checking will become impossible. At least today, knowing an organization’s bias, one can interpolate truth and accuracy…)
” Governor Ron DeSantis sends a message to the Senate Republicans considering voting against Kash Patel for FBI director.”
Forgot to mention, the W(ABC/CBS/NBC) gossip mill has spit out the rumor that Trump is considering replacing Hegseth with Ron DeSantis. I can only fault this idea because DeSantis is a damnfine guv’ner and I’d hate to see Florida lose him.
I don’t recall if Ron saw any combat, but IIRC as a JAG attached to a SEAL team he DID write much of the modern SEAL legal manual…
“A Bigger America? Trump joked to Trudeau that Canada could avoid tariffs by becoming 51st US state, says report.”
Justin whined that tariffs would bankrupt Canada. I can see Trump buying it out of receivership…
__________
“Slow Joe’s Gift: Biden Just Gave Trump a New Pardon Playbook.”
Why would Trump need a “pardon precedent?” There’s currently no one in his proposed Administration who’s guilty of a crime.
________
“Sunny Hostin Read Another Legal Note after Smearing Pete Hegseth.”
‘Bout 1 or 2 more of those and I can see Musk, either buying “The View” or buying ABC, then turning those cows out to pasture. He’s already on a short fuse WRT the low-intelligence “regulars” and their, somewhere between inflammatory and libelous, mouths.
Nah – no buying out of receivership, try something moar like a “police action” to unseat and remove UN/Nato forces that set to be occupying Canuckland before too long.
Yes you read that right – TrudO will be inviting them in, if hasnt done so already.
Just remember the old axiom: before you learn to “think outside the box” you’ve got to learn how to think INSIDE THE BOX!
“The drone props caught the line and next thing I knew, it was stuck at the top of an 85-foot pine tree.”
First question: Do any of your neighbors have a bucket lift, bucket truck, or aerial material-handler? (It’s a pine tree. You can top it and have a live Christmas tree — you don’t have to go clear to the top. Topped trees can be topped about every six years for about a century.)
Second question: Do you have a spinning (spincasting) fishing rod/reel and a treble hook? If you can get the hook over the hung line, you may be able to draw it down and free the drone with brute force, by tugging the line until it comes free.
Third question: Do you have a small rifle, a large scope, and either a bench rest, or a few sand bags (from which one can be improvised), and maybe a brick of those match-grade .22s Cheaper Than Dirt was clearancing out, back in September?
I would never cut a tree to retrieve a toy. It will eventually come free — maybe not for several years, but it WILL happen. In the meantime, a body can have a lot of fun with a .22. Just remember to aim slightly low and aim for the branch, not the line…
Hey, LOOB…
