Monday: Twits, Tweaks, and Inflation Paradox

Wednesday morning get braced:  the Consumer Price Index (inflation gauge) will be released.  Sure, this morning is quiet and all.  But many pieces are moving just below the surface. Dow futures down 150-ish.

Like Elon Musk blowing out of the Twitter acquisition this weekend.  As we’ve been following this, looks to us like there are really two separate story threads.  One – the one which we’re inclined to believe – is that Twitter hasn’t handed over enough fake account and bot information to give an engineer like Musk the necessary data on which to base a sound investment decision.

The other thread of this is how the MSM pile-on is working.  For example, Twitter Didn’t Seek a Sale. Now Elon Musk Doesn’t Want to Buy. Cue Strange Legal Drama. – WSJ.  This has also – almost famously, we might judge, allowed the MSN another chance to roll the name “Trump” into headlines.  Well played by RealClearPolitics in Trump: Elon Musk Is A “Bullshit Artist”.

We’ve made a $99 bet (signing up for Musk’s Starlink product) which (to our slow, dim-witted) way of thinking will reveal whether Trump’s assessment is right.  But for now, two-years of waiting and all Musk’s operation tells us is?

We’ll just have a second cup of Earl Gray and watch.  Maybe there’s a disclosure problem, or maybe there’s more to this:  If Elon Musk Walks Away From Twitter, It Could Save Him $400 Million in Taxes – MarketWatch.

Oh, well, it’s fun to watch another “corporate date night” blow up, isn’t it?

The War Drags On

I told you about the time – early 1970s – when I was doing news at the old KOL in Seattle – that the Vietnam war turned into a “body count” story.  This happened because people were sick to death of hearing about Vietnam this and Kissinger that.

I reckon the Ukraine war has fallen into the same rut.  The story has “gone Kardashian.”  Mentioned (almost obligatory) but not really impactful.  Gasoline prices are down.  And the Stupid-In-Chief is still moving ahead with a gas tax rebate – VOTER PAYOFF – just in time for the elections this fall.  Blame Vlad, raise money…well, you know that set of ruts, too well.

The problem is – and people forget this – that time is on Russia’s side. Europe 3.93 million square miles. Russia is almost twice as big – 6.6 million square miles – though to be fair, some of it has sucky weather.

Still, we pay attention to two stories crossing today: Russian missiles pound east Ukraine, hit Kharkiv. (This partially fills our body count bin for Monday.)  The more worrisome – with World War due in 2025-ish is Russian navy receives ‘doomsday’ submarine capable of sending ‘nuclear tsunami’ to UK.  A little less publicly touted is how the Russians are still cranking out attack subs: Russian Navy’s Kilo class submarine B-871 Alrosa completes trials.  The “doomsday” sub is an Oscar class boat.  The attack sub is a diesel-electric boat.

The sub war is an interesting subtext to the ongoing deterioration in international relations.  Even today, we’re seeing Western/NATO counter-headlines with the story Swedish Gotland-Class Carrier Killer Subs Give NATO Undersea Advantage.

In the old reporter’s notebook we read:

Battleship is known worldwide as a pencil and paper game which dates from World War I. It was published by various companies as a pad-and-pencil game in the 1930s and was released as a plastic board game by Milton Bradley in 1967. The game has spawned electronic versions, video games, smart device apps and a film.”

The Submarine! variant of the game is slightly more spendy and far more lethal.  We would have preferred the lower-cost version over what’s being played now.

Oh, and if you miss the “body count” stories, try here for more. Ukraine war: Russian rocket attack kills 15, dozens more trapped under rubble.

Inflation Paradox Growing

The (mainly useless) financial press is in mid-stride of getting Reality confused with agenda – again.  There are a ton of stories around like “Rampant Dollar Surges To 24-Year High On Yen And Near Parity On Euro.”

A lot of the (child) journo’s have it in their heads that the Biden Buck is on a year and (hoo-rah, sgt. major!) ain’t America grand, powerful, and still in charge?

Sadly, no.  As Russia controls a lot of energy going into Europe, the whiners in the EU who have virtue-signaled “Climate!!!” at every turn, are quietly having to bring back coal.

In terms of the Dollar?  Europe is being marked down for several compelling reasons:  A stupid war to expand Ukraine, but also the failing Socialist Bookkeeping which reveals the EU is still (longer-term) in the expand or collapse mode.

As for the Yen? Most people fail to consider fundamentals.  The Average Age in Japan is 48.6.  The Average Age here in the U.S. is 38.1 years.

Do you have any grasp of demographic prosperity?  You need to keep up with Feng, Kugler, and Zak.  Because this month (in ( The Path to Prosperity: A Political Model of Demographic Change )  they rock the house with clear, insightful thoughts:

“This paper presents a formal model that characterizes the political mechanisms of demographic change, establishing a critical link in economic development. We demonstrate that fertility decisions are determined by three fundamental political variables: political stability, political capacity and political freedom. Modeling strategic multi-objective policy setting by the government, we derive a set of equilibrium conditions that enable poor nations to escape a poverty trap and to successfully develop. Empirical tests for a sample of 100 countries from 1960 to 1990 provide strong support for the propositions of the formal model. In particular, we show that political stability, political capacity and political freedom all lead to reductions in birth rates. We conclude that politics can be either a stimulant or barrier to economic development.”

To our (again, slow-witted and dim) way of thinking, we begin to see a framework where governments are using “socialism as an economic substitute for war.”

In the process of working out things internationally, Japan has simply gotten to the excess retirement obligations some 10.5 years ahead of the United States.  You remember what happens in the 2033 area, right?  We are on track for a national Come to Jesus on funding of Social Security about then.

While demographics are not the ONLY variable in how international currency (swindles) are perpetrated – there’s the burned-out cinder/lost resources problem – it is still wise to keep up on political machinations because that class (of idiots) have the most direct access to the levers of power.

Which is why increasingly, elections don’t matter because the global bureaucratic class is trying to work through a difficult picture, but you see the point?

Bank Runs Begin?

The Inflation Paradox is working its way through the world and beginning to eat financial institutions.  Besides the blow-down of Bitcoin, we also noticed how Zhengzhou, Henan protests: China crushes mass demonstration by bank depositors demanding their life savings back.

Which gets us squarely into the economic paradox.

  • The U.S. Fed is threatening to raise rates – even more – to kill inflation.
  • But the price of gasoline is already dropping, so is the risk of hyperinflation passing?  Triple A today has gas at $4.67 nationally and they go on reporting how decreasing oil prices are pressing prices down.
  • Thing is, however, that’s the definition of DEflation.
  • Go to FinViz and look at commodity charts for Gold, Silver, Soybeans and many others:  Inflation in things like Lumber are likely due to the energy blip and not demand, for example.

It’s almost like we have two flavors of “flation.”  One (deflation) is seen in many areas, while the Inflation is seen in others.  A bit more research into what the inflators and the deflators share as root causes would be dandy.

Short Snorts

Headline addicts of the world won’t, of course, take the time to think deeply.  Can’t say as I blame them, either.  Low payoff effort.  You still need to buy food and a roof – so arguing about the playing field is stupid.  It is what it is.

On the field, real playahs are thinking about:

Amazon Prime Days begins tomorrow.  Every site running such stories (almost) will have links – which is you click and follow – will put a penny or two per dollar spent in their pocket.  Refreshingly? 5 best sales to shop instead of Prime Day 2022: Walmart, Best Buy, more. We’ll have to see if these alt. links are monetized, too…

Witch Trial TV is back tomorrow.  Not that anyone cares about it: January 6 committee members preview Tuesday’s hearing on role of extremist groups in Capitol riot. We’re pretty sure there will be 3-4 more “startling revelations” wheeled out to keep this bullshit time waster going until congressional elections in November.

Since my son is arguably the World’s Most Famous Uber driver, he’ll find this one of interest: Uber broke laws, duped police and secretly lobbied governments, leak reveals.  Let me see, that was two fire departments, eleven major forest fires, 219 medic responses, and one current “can’t talk about it” mission ago…

Go Joe!  I’d point you to the story Biden’s Approval Hits 33 Percent; Democrats Want 2024 Options, Poll Shows – The New York Times. But they slam a paywall on you.  Still, it’s a “one number” story, anyway.

WHAT??? Biden crooked?  Steve Hilton says President Biden must be investigated: He ‘lied’ about his role in Hunter’s business dealings.

Or, does it run in the family?  4chan users claim to have hacked Hunter Biden’s iCloud account.  Serious claims, but like the NY Post puts it Amid Hunter’s ongoing scandals, Biden is going soft on China.  One hand washes the other…

Around the Ranch

Mainly, it’s just been hotter than hell.  104 here in the Outback – and even warmer in town on Sunday.  We put together a few misters to keep the cats cool.

Elsewhere?

Although we will likely hit 105F today, it’s way short of a record.  Surfing a bit, I found that “The highest temperature ever recorded in Palestine, Texas was 114 °F which occurred on July 26, 1954.”

Which is impossible, right?

Because how could THAT have happened without global warming?

I swear, the world is getting what stupidity usually serves.

  1. 109 degrees projected for today out here in the West. Hauling salt and water to the herd today big time! Margaritas all around bossies and billies? I’ll take that stampede as a “yes”.

      • Oh yeah. My nightmare is the 50s. The 6 year drought here ended when I was born but things were crispy for a long time after that, still. I didn’t know what mud was till I was 6 or 7 unless it was around a river.

      • From N’s Link: June 26 and 27, 1980 – 113 degrees

This was a record summer in Texas as temperatures soared into astonishingly high numbers in Dallas and Fort Worth. For the record, the average Texas high in June clocks in around 92 degrees, so these temperatures likely took Texans by surprise.

        Another article: https://www.electricrate.com/data-center/hottest-day-in-texas/

        113 Degrees – Dallas & Fort Worth

The twin temperatures on June 26 and June 27, 1980, are still remembered by Dallas and Fort Worth residents. That summer broke or tied 29 daily records, 24 of which still stand three decades later. The summer was so memorable for the scorching temperatures (the average Texas high in June is 90 degrees) that there are still ‘I Survived the 1980 Texas Heat Wave’ t-shirts sold on Amazon.

        June 26, a Thursday, and June 27, a Friday, 1980, I remember it well.

I was 20 years old. I was working my first job in downtown Dallas for an oil company that would later be sold to the country of Kuwait. I had put myself through secretarial school working 3 part – time jobs.

People helped me round up $740 for my first car, a 1974 Vega with a rebuilt Aluminum engine. The car had no heat, no a/c, and every time in rained it got over 2″ in the floorboards. I drove that car for 1 1/2 years back and forth between Arlington, Texas, and Dallas, on I30, facing East into the morning sun, and coming home, the West sun.

I got stuck in a traffic jam coming out of Dallas on Friday, June 27th, at 5:30 p.m. right after the mix master, on I30 heading West. Dead stop traffic. Me, nylons, dress, high heels, fancy shirt (that was the dress code then), full makeup, and I roasted, it was a lot hotter on the tarmac with, what it seemed like, a thousand sea wave of cars….stopped in time. Good thing I was 20 and very fit; I didn’t expire. Way before bottled water.

I still talk about that day, that’s how hot it was.

I think I need to buy the T-shirt!!!

    • That’s how you know that their is an AGENDA; the purposeful leaving out of info.

I spoke to my 100 year old neighbor, she lived through the 1930’s, and the 1950’s heatwaves…..basically all of them from 1922 to the present day.

Now that we have learned through Elon Musk’s 10 children, that there is NO OVERPOPULATION problem, it’s high time people learned that there is NO GLOBAL, NOR MAN MADE GLOBAL WARMING, NOR MAN MADE CLIMATE CHANGE.

      The climate always changes folks!!!

  2. I had a dream about your place something around back and you had a door that wasn’t exactly close completely,
I guess just walk completely around the house maybe you’ll discover something, be careful, maybe it was just an animal trying to get in

    • At a minimum, everyone should be walking around their residence at least once a week, ideally every day, looking for anything odd, such as attempted entry by anything, two legged or otherwise. If so, fix it immediately or it will be seen as an invitation to continue. The “broken window” concept really does matter, even if it’s just an attempt to bend a window frame out of place. Once someone figures you’re not looking or not caring, they’ll plan for a full on heist. Things are likely to get worse before they get better. Brandon and minions at all levels are working hard on this.

Don’t make their day, make yours!

  3. Uber gets a lot of grief, but this was clearly a service customers wanted (much better experience then a taxi), easily managed by your smartphone. As far as I know they cannot pressure someone to drive within their platform, and their payment are clearly understood. Yes they likely bypassed many local regulations to control the “taxi” business. I get it, though we should probably be more upset of the over regulation of the “for hire” transport business as it is a protection racket for existing services, as are most licensing schemes governments put in place. Government should be protecting market competition, but instead ,because of their need to raise money, they extort/protect donors.

  4. “I swear, the world is getting what stupidity usually serves.”

    George,

Are you planning to sell Urban Survival t-shirts with those words of wisdom on it?

  5. “we begin to see a framework where governments are using “socialism as an economic substitute for war.”

Wow big thoughts today great post..
That was always the plan laid out in adolphs second book.. ( on my scariest book list) first get everyone convinced that NOTHING is worth more than something.. the emporers new clothes..then manipulation of everything to promote greed rather than pride and security.. getting the masses dependent on various social programs to survive..
From my perspective that does two things.. it propels the 1 percent of the upper 30 to new heights and opens the 29 percent up to have their wealth taken.
War. . And is their corruption. Just look what we are supporting..we condem and imprison those that disclose secrets and investigate.
The clinker here is china and Russia are posed to upset the corrupt ones Apple cart..they started backing their currency with stuff..gold, silver, grain, and oil.. and working on cleaning up one of the major hubs of corruption forcing us to make a decision..give up the hub and or try to keep in forcing us to commit more resources than we have..
Way back in the seventies the usa had foreign subs positioned around our country.. with club-k my guess and fear is the club-k system is in the usa to.. a leader that is openly transporting and supporting illegals from hostile countries that swore vengeance. Selling strategic emergency fuel reserves and so much documentation on a corrupt child’s laptop that would convict the average. yet we know there’s a pardon waiting.. no jail time there..
But the hint in media of a possible viral infection says to me that those that were being manipulated by them used biological methods in retaliation using their very weaknesses as the weapon in their sharing open family structure. Similar to the promotion of greed and industry..there’s never enough more to satisfy those that see more as in the child story about Midases golden touch..
In Iraq We used missiles to soften the enemy.. were they can use heat, electricity, food, etc. To soften us..
Let the products dry up . Position military close to our borders.. now that they’ve been able to get warm water ports and strategically place nukes on our borders a minute away and a house of cards ready to fall.. this just gets worse by the day. Especially when you can see the prices to the puzzle neatly falling into place.

  6. Check out G.A. STEWART ‘S new website.

“I built this website as a tool, actually a cudgel, because I am tired of bullies. At 66, you get tired of the fight. When you have to suck up to fools all your life to keep your job, your ego can take a bruising. So, now that I am getting on in years, social media can be a big stick.”

    • JC: Its a self correcting mechanism. Unfortunately things have to go third world before they become first world again. If you sit atop all those sovereign nations, what one can see is a merry go round of “Creative Destruction”. If you are a club member, you get to see where the next phase of the plan is. Actually, if you turn off the Tee Vee and watch what “they” are planning via their channels, after some careful study, you can arrive ahead of the pack right along side them. They have to tell you what they’re planning to do. It’s all part of the protocol. I’d be buying Desert in Sub Saharan Africa right about now. Plan to pass it on to the great grand children. While you are enamored with the talking heads on Tee Vee and the latest Globull warming, note the power of knowledge of history and cycles will lead you elsewhere, and not where Joe Sixpack is being instructed to focus.
You still need to filter actionable info from the noise, but its all there writ large… Get ready.

LMAO: What they aren’t saying in the headline is that the fifth time in 40 years is that 2022 makes this the fifth year in a row since 2017.

      https://www.euronews.com/green/2022/01/23/snow-falls-in-the-sahara-desert-for-the-fifth-time-in-40-years

Depressions are always presaged by regional climate shifts [if they are contributing to agricultural distress/failure]. Which the left and central regions are suffering through. What all is really in those chem trails anyway? Perhaps we got the desiccant package confused/swapped with the silver iodide package? hmm says here the main ingredient in my antiperspirant is ?

  7. Dear slow-witted and dim: your tome rouses a fav. _not_ warming argument. Wokesters: “It’s nearly as hot as 1954” Me: ah, so it _has_ been this hot before. Which gluttonous SUV was to blame back then? A: there weren’t any but …

Cycles: methinks we will always wobble between bull ‘n bear, inflation ‘n deflation, etc. Ditto hot and cold. I am forever dredging up old articles circa 1970s about the coming mini ice age. Are the same fellers writing warming warnings? Prolly.

Add a kewl cool compress (ahem, bandana) around the jugulars in big heat. It’s great AC for the body. Works on cats too! Meanwhile, here in the middle-west the 4-cast calls for more rain. Wish we could share but … maybe move back to the Heartland?

Write when you get quick-witted and sharp,
    Egor

    • Unfortunately, mist and slightly cooler draws bugs, especially mosquitoes! Those deadly biting critters love to violate human flesh, especially an dawn and dusk where they’re more comfortable, as are we. There’s no perfect solution, though there are many ideas on the net. I wonder if a cat’s fur protects him/her from those nasty critters.

  8. It’s not just the Euro and the Yen. The dollar is so strong against other currencies because the alternatives stink in the current crisis environment. When the going gets tough, the tough vote with their feet.

  9. “You remember what happens in the 2033 area, right?  We are on track for a national Come to Jesus on funding of Social Security about then.”

????????… back in the Reagan recession I worked with a refugee from Vietnam.. they gave him everything.. but during a conversation with someone about this.. I was given the answer that they did that because of future SS issues.. Americans are not having children because of the economic and career restrictions. Where refugee families still have large family households. And to give the parents economic assistance now will pay off in twenty years…

    • The problem I see with that.. is similar to our country selling our emergency strategic reserves.. back during the Reagan deregulation and recession we took the funds set aside for social security and used them to bail out the economic issues then..placing us in this horrific economic situation we are today.. we were sold out then just like we are being sold out today..
This time I question whether or not we can pull out of this mess..

      • We have never set aside any money for anything. We spend it and give an IOU to a fund. There is no SS fund, it is only a line on a spreadsheet noting that tax payers owe the fund x trillions of dollars. We have gotten ourselves into a odd spot where retirees expect their less wealthy children and grand children to pay for the SS and medical expenses. Just as they paid for their elders. Now though instead of 16/1 payers vs payees we are down to 2.7/1 and that does not include medicare/medicade payments. I have known since I started working this is a ponzi scheme and benefits eventually will have to cut. But instead of making a hard decisions, more money will be printed, inflation will rob your savings, so you cannot support yourself in your old age.

    • LLOB, et al, Haven’t you heard, Democrats have a plan to ensure SS solvency, but Republicans won’t have anything to do with taxing the rich!! Stickin’ it to the poor is the Republican’s sacred mantra!! Now go bash Biden for all your problems, hide in your box from the Republican thuggery:

      • Well @C. He isn’t my hero..he did do better than any president that I’ve seen in my lifetime..
And I really don’t want to see the administration in green tights.. the steal from the rich and give to the poor doesn’t work it never has throughouthistory it only opens the door for corruption .. you need class separation..
You also have to realize just like biden Trump is one of America’s finest…

      • My choice was Rand Paul..the big issue there is he believes in our constitution

    • So, squeezing the baby boomer female by making her work to provide for her family, married or unmarried, skyrocketing costs of daycare if she/he has a baby, and paying all those expenses cause she has a social security card, so NO help for her and her hubby to bring LOTS OF BABIES into the world, they sold ABORTION as the answer to the American Baby Boomer Women and Men. FREE SEX, GREAT Contraceptive, and no babies….but we OUTSOURCE AND INSOURCE AND PAY ALL OTHER WOMEN TO HAVE BABIES.

Sorry, ain’t buying that bullsheet; they purposefully have been paying other women to have babies in this country for a good 50 years, and not giving enough to our own citizens.
I see those non citizen women walking their children to elementary school pushing their baby carriages, and one in the oven. They don’t work and they don’t have the stresses at all.

NOT ONE OF MY FOUR SISTERS, NOR myself were ever able to stay at home and raise a family.

This is just another attack against the American family disguised as selfish baby boomer women who don’t want babies.

This agendaaaad, planned society made it that way.

Now, the truth comes out….they needed all those aborted babies.

But they did not want them; I mean the powers that be; the brainwashed masses fell for it, heavy, heavy, heavy brainwashing and propaganda that allowed the American citizen worker woman to have none or few babies, so that all the imported women could have as many as they wanted without worrying one second how THEY were going to AFFORD them!!!

WHY aren’t American women getting the economic assistance so they can stay home with their children?

      • “Now, the truth comes out….they needed all those aborted babies.”

        Like a small town or a church………….
ever wonder why some religions promote children..
        one third move away..
        one third fall away
        and one third continue on..
to keep the church active and alive.. you need three times the kids as you have the elderly.. if you get below that.. then struggles begin..

small towns die because the main family doesn’t like change.. they don’t want to see others coming in to their town.. one gent told me.. they will bring their kids.. so..were you that shizty of a parent and your children so horrible .. what makes you think that.. because the only kids you can reflect on.. are yours..
        future tax revenues..

      • LOOB: Abortion, and high cost of raising kids, to the citizens, cannot out breed illegal immigration fully funded the NEW baby boomer production.

When they have aborted 50 million OTHER kids; we’ll see that there is a baby part feeding program in these united states, until then, it would appear as if our esteemed leaders got rid of a certain targeted population on purpose.

Every single one of us is replaceable, used up, turned aside, and that’s the message of the New World Ordering of the Countries.

        Prepare to Be Replaced!
        Prepare to Be Displaced!
        Prepare to be Disgraced!

They are selling the Stephen King novel, “The Stand”, at walmart in cd/dvd for $5.00; if you want your own treasured copy.

Or watch it here, for free:

Well worth watching that diabolical in heat creep fest.

  10. “Gasoline prices are down”

Yesterday I filled up the Camry and the tab was just over $68.00. I was happy seeing the 6 Vs another 7 or even 8…. The $10 bought a psychology effect. Biden is trying,.

The Uke war isn’t sexy. It’s a financial drain that I hear a lot of people complaining about.

Putin didn’t pull a Cheney, “My belief is we will, in fact, be greeted as liberators.” then drop depleted uranium and white phosphorous bombs on their faces until they soften. Bet NATO would call Pooty a War Criminal. All of them are BS artists.

People love BS. They make it up in their own heads.

    • “People love BS/psychologically effect.”

Back in the ’30’s people were so poor they’d eat nickel candy bars for dinner. Confection manufactures named their confection products Payday, Full Dinner, $100,000, Boston Baked Beans, 5th Avenue….. so people would think and feel rich eating a simple candy bar for dinner.

    • I see no valid purpose for Americans in supporting Ukraine. Personally, I’d have ignored it. We have real problems to solve, such as creating the new American Work Ethic, and at least trying to regain our place in the world. The current “administration” is probably as corrupt as that in Ukraine. I’d rather see Russia get a quick win and stop the waste. We might even learn what’s really going on there.

  11. Here’s a goodie. If Biden reveals space aliens today the people who support Biden will think the aliens are friendly while the people who don’t support Biden will greet the aliens with suspicion and conspiracy.

President Biden will reveal the first James Webb Space Telescope image today at 5PM ET

‘We can’t contain the excitement for Webb’s first full-color images.’

    • In Canada, they STILL believe the COVID vaccine works!

To enter the nation of Canada, one must be fully vaccinated with two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Four members of the Philadelphia Phillies will miss their two game set in Toronto this week due to their vaccination status.

J.T. Realmuto, Aaron Nola, Alec Bohm, and Kyle Gibson, having declined to vaccinate thus far, will not be allowed to enter Canada when the Phillies cross the border.

The four players will rejoin the club for the Phillies first-half finale series in Miami on Friday.

      • Also believe in the divine right of royalty and Truedope – too much time alone in the woods? With the exception of the rational readers in Sask. and Winnie the Peg, of course.

      • You do have rational readers in Canada George including this one who lives well east of Winnipeg. We are in the minority however, and don’t get invited to many Liberal parties.

By the way, this reader agrees with letting Mark and C and others with differing viewpoints to post here. It allows for some excellent rebuttals.

        Keep on trucking.

  12. “Oh, and if you miss the “body count” stories, try here for more. Ukraine war: Russian rocket attack kills 15, dozens more trapped under rubble”

Fake News??? I looked at the photos in this STORY and in my dumb ass opinion, this looks like a demolition ruble pile that has been pushed up. The men look like it is a training exercise rather than a rescue mission. Vehicles? stretchers? victims?

    Inflation watch:
I walked into my favorite Ace hardware store recently to pick up some items for my newest project.
I noticed that the prices on the worm screw type adjustable clamps had gone up. Gone up a lot!
For a one inch diameter size it used to be around $1.59 each. Now it’s $2.29 each. That puts the squeeze on my budget, (forgive the pun), and slows down my build rate. My projects are second tier priority as necessities of life come first!
Oh, and I’m still waiting on that air conditioner Soft Starter. I hope it comes before America does the Inflation to the moon thing and no one can afford electricity.

      • They must ship out starling systems to those who have the slowest hard wired had mine up and going in two mouth this summer. works great

    • Rather than waiting, why not consider it a business opportunity. There are plenty of retired EE’s here, and not all are fully occupied with their own stuff. Get a good businessman and a competent engineer together and such a project should be quite do-able. Then sell the plans(copyrighted), kits, and/or complete units, or for the generous, just put it all out on youtube and other sites.

      • I am a retired EE. I had a project years ago that I hoped would turn into a business. Then I started seeing all the Slip and Fall lawyer ads. That project went back on the shelf! Don’t need that grief while being retired!!!

      • Rocket Mike, I understand. I’m keeping houses empty for now since I don’t want to deal with tenants right now. I may sell or rent when I’m ready, but there will always be a risk. Setting up entities(corps, LLC’s) is a partial answer, and encumbering the asset even more is helpful too. There’s an entire discipline of asset protection and it’s unfortunately necessary. If you wanted to design a plug n play soft starter for the larger inductive loads in a house, it could probably be sold with relatively low risk. I don’t trust insurance of any kind to manage risk, so I go bare on a lot of rather risky things. In the end, we’re all dead, and those left behind can sort it out. Just make sure your liabilities cannot pass to your heirs. With the coming great travail as we crush the “great reset”, there’s no telling what we get to keep. I’ve always wondered as to how real (estate) assets survive a war or conquering of lands. I’ve not seen this in the literature. A good friend of mine has a “live for today” attitude, and from what I’ve seen, I can’t fault her.

  14. “Last June was the hottest in 11 years, rest of the summer could be hotter – Orlando Sentinel”

I shouldn’t be surprised. We’ve had record (or near-record) cold Augusts for 11 of the past 14 years. This seems to me like the first (so far) normal summer since 2006, so of course, June is gonna be hotter. So should July and August, and September should be cooler. We’ll see…

  15. George,
You are a roller coaster ride of sensibilities. You have great ideas and then are led astray with comments calling the January 6 the hearings a waste of time. They are not…Utilizing the logic of Occums Razor, It is more likely that The Former idiot in Chief was illegally elected in 2016. (he did lose the popular voted by 3 million). Could he have successfully bought or coerced a few electoral votes then like he tried and failed to do in 2020? I think the electoral college and the state attorney generals knew 2016 was a farce and defended our election integrity to make sure it would never happen again in 2020. Of course, almost 7 million more votes for Biden is a bit to discredit. Despite such overwhelming margins and pleas from his staff, cabinet and advisors to let it go…T-Rump tried to disrupt the transfer of power. He incited a riot…and to this day, in a whacked out delusional way, keeps promoting the big lie…Nobody is on his side anymore and I am not sure anyone ever was. What is there to gain by riding this losers coat-tails? The idiot has no power, game or followers anymore. The only people that believe him are the same as he is…powerless, a bit deranged and penniless. He WILL be tried and convicted and hopefully will spend they rest of his already miserable life in a dirty, rat infested jail. What he did in 2020 makes Richard Nixon look like a choir boy…Miserable, uneducated and despicable people like Trump deserve full on procecution. BRING IT ON!

    • Mark you have a lot of gall given that your guy takes bribes from our enemies and can’t complete a sentence. Why do you think they call him “Bribe-Em”?

    • I cannot recall where Trump calling for peaceful protest is the same as inciting a riot. But lets use your logic. Do you think all the democrats calling for protests/riots in 2020 also should be prosecuted? How about those inciting violence against the supreme court justices. Why many of us get so frustrated is the double standard applied to enforcing laws. I don’t know any republican that dis-agrees that those that committed violence on Jan 6th, be fully prosecuted. Lots of people rotting in jail with no bail, have no evidence of violence or property crimes (innocent until proven guilty). I have always dis-liked Trump as a leader, he always tended to make everything about himself. His one positive stamp is shifting the supreme court to more closely follow the Constitution, but that was more luck with the timing of a death then anything else.

I believe there was far more corruption with the Clinton’s and their foundation funding while Hillary was in government, then anything I have seen proven against Trump. Of course the Biden family is not far behind with their level of corruption.

    • Mark,
Interesting rant … but everyone seems to forget that there is NOTHING in the Constitution or it’s Amendments that dictates that it is a vote of the people that determines WHO a State’s Electors are to vote for when they vote for President.

Up until a little over a hundred years ago some states still selected their Presidential Electors via their state legislatures. To see how messy it can get go back and read about the CHAOS of the Hayes – Tilden election in 1876. TWO sets of Electors were sent to vote in the Electoral College Election by opposing groups in several states, each one claiming to be the REAL electors.

Obviously Congress got involved, tossing out some electors while recognizing an opposing group from the same state. Lots of screaming and some actual fights broke out in the Congress … though finally a POLITICAL COMPROMISE was made, the deal being Republican Hayes would be President (he probably would have lost if an honest seating of electors had occurred) BUT … he would withdraw the Military Troops that were STILL stationed in the South. Hayes would go on to only have one term in office after that affair.

I personally think that the January 6th attempt by Trump to get Pence to NOT recognize who the electors voted for was disgusting … but the reality of Constitution is that in the past different sets of Electors have claimed to have the right to VOTE in the Electoral College election and under the Constitution it is the State Legislatures, NOT the populous, that actually have the right to select the Electors who are to vote. When there IS a disagreement over Electors Congress then has to decide which set gets seated … and the vote is each state gets ONE vote (Montana has as much power as California for example). It is just through decades of usage that people now EXPECT the Electors to vote per the popular vote, but that is NOT what the Constitution REQUIRES.

Because of the Compromise of 1877 the US Supreme Court has never had to address the mess that makes up that part of the Constitution … but it IS perfectly legal for a State Legislature to Select a Slate of Electors that will vote differently than what a popular vote of the people would indicate. The popular vote in a state is merely ADVISORY … it is NOT BINDING on the Electors voting in the Electoral College Election under the Constitution and Federal Law.

Take an hour to read up on that Hayes -Tilden mess from the election of 1876 and you will see exactly what I am talking about.

In 2020 Trump truly did attempt to have a Soft Coup … but was stymied by the fact that not just Pence was against that but also the military and the vast majority of Congress were against him also. Thank goodness the Congress and the Supreme Court did not have to get involved.

    • Holy Delusioned MaRK, I find it difficult to believe that URE allows your post to be published. You are truly un-informed on reality or even blood pumping truth. Why do you even comment here or read this site?

  16. regarding Musk, I’m wondering if he never actually intended to buy Twitter, but just wanted to peel back the curtain on them a bit to show people what a truly awful platform it really is.

    • Anything Musk does is to benefit Musk. So the twitter deal brought 2 things. His ability to offlload about 9Billion in Telsa stock near its all time highs with very little noise about the sale. The second thing is more notoriety, he feeds on attention. This time running off at the mouth and someone calling his bluff, will likely cost him 1B+$. Take a look at some of the video’s from “common sense skeptic”. It is a real eye opener to place some reality against so many of his lies. I hope George gets his starlink service and it works out, though the business model of replacing 20-30K satellites every 5 years boggles the mind.

      • Yes, I met a young man from the Netherlands, he was here to research, work on, and launch, just that, to put 40,000 satellites in our skies.

        It’s actually mind boggling.

I wonder what’s hitching a ride on those satellites?

    • I suspect that like any competent businessman, he wants to tie up the asset long enough to get a really hard look under the covers. That look was apparently rather horrifying. He had a reason to unload the stock at an all time high – that’s just the smart thing to do. If Twitter tries to take him to court, they’ll have to lay out their bot numbers in a public forum and Elon won’t have to worry about an NDA! This is funny from any perspective. I wish him luck, since there was a rather serious setback from a failed test and explosion on the Super Heavy Booster at Starbase.

  17. I’ve been dubious of Twitter for a long time and this deal/no-deal with Musk makes me squint even harder at this whole mess.

I’ve suspected that Twitter and maybe ALL of the other socials were not real companies. Instead they’re fake companies that act as an information warfare mechanism for not just our Fedgov but the larger Western-Gov alliance.

I think Musk’s move to buy Twitter was to expose the operation for what it is and either seriously damage it or destroy it. I’m not saying that Musk is a good guy (there aren’t any left) or that his actions were to benefit us useless eaters. I’m just saying that from my vantage point out here in the cheap seats sometimes you can see behind the curtain when the light is just right.

By the by, hot times in the summer time is old news. What really would be great story was if it DIDN’T get hot in the summertime. That’s how ice ages start. If you live up in the more northern climes and last year’s snow didn’t fully melt during the summer, now may be the time to start looking south.

    • “Instead they’re fake companies that act”

Ding, ding, ding! Keep that up and you’ll be able to seek a second career with the EFF…

“If you live up in the more northern climes and last year’s snow didn’t fully melt during the summer, now may be the time to start looking south.”

Nope — it’s the time to start building walls, to keep the zombies out when TSHTF and everybody in the more temperature-friendly climes kills each other off to claim the resources they made scarce by squandering them and murdering those who know how to properly utilize ’em. I don’t particularly like really cold weather, but I’d rather dig a tunnel through the snow to an outbuilding than try to dig one to Belize or Turks & Caicos…

      • One word for NYC and surrounding environs..BELGOROD

They dont call em doomsday torpedo’s for nothing. Explosively generated nuclear tsunami – boiling hot with radiation from underwater detonation. Rendering NYC and boroughs hotter than Chernobyl/Tepco – uninhabitable for hundreds of years.

Might want to start “digging” now, while there is still a little time ..or just godot with it.

      • ONE man can’t.. plans have been made per family.. I think it was Monson that had an article in a magazine that finally realized .. it isn’t the one but the many the community..
We seen what the democratic plan is and how they encouraged BLM and Antifa to act to cities.. defunding police and protection in the highest crime areas.. the raping destruction and the pillaging.. was horrific.. and no one to help.. the cities are being tribalized one neighborhood at a time.. if your Caucasian of origin.. just take a leisurely stroll through the hood once.. I think it was Stanford that did a study on BLM and racial prejudice.. by sending students of different ethnic origins into unfamiliar and neighborhoods that were predominantly of a different ethnic back ground…. the results were not only shocking but really violent..
now we are shipping illegals from back grounds that even our already defunded and high crime area’s are use to but unknown because they live the quran.. word for word.. and they all are from war torn area’s where your life didn’t amount to anything at all.. to prepare we have to think and prepare like a community.. not the individual..

my official ten word or less assessment on this present administration…… WE ARE SCREWED

      • LOOB, one man CAN! It’s not pretty. I ended up attending school in the darkest hellhole of inner city Brooklyn. It was very violent and mostly of a different set of racial/ethnic composition than myself. People were stabbed or shot nightly. I learned to survive and put out a feral vibe that scared everyone. I’m not sure how I do that, but I had the absolute intention of never backing down and taking whomever I could with me when/if I died. For some reason I survived, though I never liked the city. That attitude saved my life more often than I’d like to think of. There are stories that even today, I’m not prepared to tell.

      • ” I’m not sure how I do that, but I had the absolute intention of never backing down and taking whomever I could with me when/if I died.”

Mike, your background and mine are not dissimilar…

I have hated bullies and people who abuse females, for as long as I can remember.

I was in the 5th grade. Don’t remember the kid’s name. He was tall, lanky, and believed he should be allowed to beat the holy crap out of a girl in my class — I didn’t. The day after I remedied this problem, the grapevine said this other kid, a friend of the first (and actually a decent kid), was going to pay me back for interfering. After school, I walked home & touched base (I always did this — made “whatever happened” into NOT a “school issue”), then I walked over to this “friend’s” house.

He was sitting on his front porch with two of his “tough guy” friends. I stopped, said: “I heard you were going to beat me up?” to which he replied: “Yep.” I then said: “Okay, then do it now.” “But this is my yard and there’s three of us.” “That’s right. You can come one at a time or all at once — I don’t care.” Right about then, the “friend’s” mother came out the door, inquiring of the situation. We all sat down around the kitchen table, ate fresh-made cookies with milk, and it was decided that, since the friend and I had no beef with each other, there should be no fighting that day.

An insignificant day in the life of a bunch of 11yos and me (I was only 10) except for one thing. The next day at school, everyone knew the story, and suddenly I had the reputation of: “Stay away from Raymond — He’s crazy tough and he’ll fight anybody…”

That rep served me all through school, and probably kept a bunch of stuff from happening around me which otherwise might. There were always fights — hell, clear into my 20s, but there was never a gang beat-down, and eventually folks learned not to jump me on the street.

THIS is why Jonathan Gilliam’s attack awareness book told me nothing I didn’t already know – because I’d lived a life from age 6 to age 17, where such awareness was necessary (good book, BTW, I bought 6 copies…)

  18. New policy innovation from the world’s leading authoritarian, repressive government: “…authorities even resorted to tampering with the country’s digital Covid health-code system to restrict the movements of depositors and thwart their planned protest…”. It’s really slick, everyone on the street during a lockdown/quarantine/curfew is either a criminal or undercover leo: easy sorting. Can’t wait to see how overeacher in chief brandon one-ups them on that like he did with business shutdowns, stay in your house and get injected with an ineffective, unsafe science experiment if you want to keep your job.

  19. “But for now, two-years of waiting and all Musk’s operation tells us is?

Starlink expects to expand service to your area in mid 2022.” …

Thank you for visiting Canada; Starlink Beta is here.

Out in the boonies in an area requiring boosters hung in trees to bring in cell signals, an acquaintance is settling into a Starlink setup. It is definitely beta. The idea is great and it arguably works. The early going has some possible ba……(sorry, cloud in the way)…ndwidth challenges. When I a Bedrock technot could get a signal, I was able to stream audio like Amazon and Sirius, and some youtube video (sd only?), but not video such as Prime. Great technology but not quite prime time? But that’s what beta is all about? Anyhow, if the USA starlink birds are drafted into Ukraine duty, maybe Mr. Zelensky’s Zoom feed is super-duper compressed to avoid becoming gibberish? Well, over to DJ Ure tuning up the WH teleprompter.

As an aside, I read a msm report recently of the US mil going in with the Airbus Florida facility on some i in the sky project. The satellite services are planned to be with OneWeb. The gist I took out of it was that OneWeb was deemed more robust for the power user. OneWeb has an interesting history having emerged from the ashes of bankruptcy with a little help from an Indian consortium and the UK state.

  20. Wife’s fancy electronic thermometer was showing about 30F less than I felt like. Probably messed up on the C to F conversion. I am 72 this year, just a couple years behind you. I DO NOT use air conditioning, I have an old house with lots of windows and a couple of fans. I live in Birmingham, next to a steel mill, several railroad tracks, and lots of black top on the streets. (Near US-11) Didn’t have air conditioning growing up. Have trouble breathing these days when I am forced to deal with it.

It is hot, I will concede. My thoughts are “if you can’t stand the heat, stay outta the kitchen.” Those folks that “need” air-con should just move further north. Maybe Alaska. . . I don’t like snow, but live with it when it happens. I don’t like extreme heat either, but live with it when it happens. Nature is real, not what we make it. if it’s hot, try to slow down.

    • All good. I have an a/c but haven’t turned it on yet. Nights are relatively cool here, and days are bloody hot, but lots of thermal mass in the house balances it for free. The real challenge is getting useful (hard) work done outside. Unless it’s cloudy, the direct sun is murderous, and the best weather for working is at night. Work demands light and generally makes noise, and noise carries in rural areas, so the best time to work is in the cloudy evening, along with the mosquitoes.

      • I use an alarm clock. LED lights and working from a half hour before sunrise to 85F is my weekend option when I’m not super glued to this damn chair…

    • It IS an excellent analysis.

WE have the M1A2 Abrams which has a top speed of 102km/h. Why? Because a piece of artillery that’s moving at 62mph is much harder to kill than a fixed howitzer or field cannon. When you have mobility, you have a nearly invincible advantage in war (ask Mr. Khan.) Fixed fortifications are only useful in modern warfare until they’re discovered.

As I have mentioned before, the Russians employed the bottom 7% of their forces, and mostly 50-70 year old materiel to prosecute this “war” — ridding their armed forces of malcontents (and probably many of Putin’s potential political adversaries) and junk munitions which needed to go away so the shelves could be restocked with 21st century ammo and boom-booms — carpet bombing, indeed! I’m surprised we haven’t seen any MiG-17s…

Their “good stuff” will go into launch batteries 10 clicks from the Finnish border, the day Finland officially joins NATO (and is already installed in their submarine fleet – for those with short memories…)

  23. Comrades,

The BBC today came out with an innocuous report about the first batch of Welsh satellites planned to be launched from the Cornwall Spaceport. I didn’t know there is a spaceport in the heart of the Duchy of Cornwall, overseen by the heir to the throne. Apparently there is at Newquay. Not to be confused with Torquay, home of the 70’s satirical comedy “Fawlty Towers” featuring John Cleese. It was in planning for years. 18 months before Brexit, the government put up 80+% funding with a bit from billionaire Sir Richard and a $400 billion Middle Eastern sovereign wealth fund. Separate from the spaceport is another Sir Richard enterprise, Virgin Orbital, whose workhouse getting off terra firma is a 20 year old re-purposed Virgin Atlantic B747-400, “Cosmic Girl”, to which a satellite Launcher will be attached. The company website offers a title page of a gentleman looking very much like Mr. Boris Johnson surrounded at spaced distances by cast and crew. One anticipates the page to be updated soonly.

Wikipedia offers interesting insights on the financing of the project. Apparently it’s a SPAC (Special-Purpose Acquisition Company) which Wikipedia suggests is a poor persons’ venture fund and sign of an economic bubble. This particular SPAC one reads regrettably splashed down some $250 million short of target requiring Sir Richard to dip into his auxiliary tanks to get over regulatory terrain alert minimums by a mere $28 million.

We have seen the lineups of the best that America has to offer and they choice is more of do you vote for the bad or the worse.. officials that never had to work for a living and those that were born as rich and entitled. seriously its like pain.. if you have never lived it.. you cannot reflect on what your experiencing.. and once it is over.. the mind forgets the true dramma of it all.. you still know about it.. like cleaning blood tanks that have traveled across the USA to be steam cleaned.. ( even though I can smell it now talking about it LOL) your mind forgets the actual experience..
and everyone that has been shoved in front of us has no knoweledge of the life that the average wage earner has to live..
Kind of like Joe Biden getting raw and nasty to gas station owners for charging to much when while trying to keep the doors open. they only make a few cents on a gallon of gas.. ( the convenience store..they make money off of inside sales or repairs from their mechanics.. the gas is sold as a convenience ) he didn’t have a clue because he has no work or regular life experience except that of what his parents went through.. his whole life has been one where people throw money at him.. he’s the world of the wealthy and Entitled …

    • Young kids. Having kids. Living in the moment when so much is already locked, loaded and pointed at them and they simply won’t see it until Life pulls the trigger on them. You can’t tell them, they won’t hear you because they have zero frame of reference to make sense out of your experience.

Been there, done that. Got in trouble with credit cards a year or two after I got out of the service but cut it off at about $2500. It was low enough to pay the monthly bill for the debt even with a sub-$10/hr. job and livestock income, such as it was back then – and really helped our credit rating by the time we got out from under it. The interest was better than than the cc companies, too. Never did that again … but the kids did, and the sister-in-law did and guess who bailed them out? It’s weird but God, Universe, whatever seems to plop money in our laps through the years whenever there’s trouble coming our way (which makes me start looking for a foxhole when it happens) but now that I’ve got control of the major amount of it I’ve put people on notice that doing stupid things in Life will not be tolerated. Tough love is the only way through it and teaches more than any other way. I’ve come to find that if someone isn’t pissed at me in the family I’m probably not doing my job.

It escalates.. and what are the key words in most of the stories…. THE WEST….
how many times in a news story does those words come up.. a lot.. every sentence or two.. so who do they see as the instigators and the true threat to their way of life….. two words..
My guess is that now with emergency management giving the old Duck and cover emergency plans to the people.. ( I did check out the delaware emergency planning website to see if they posted a save yourself get the hell out of Delaware video LOL..If your curious they haven’t )

we have in our lives of this nation nothing to reflect on.. similar to the rich and entitled.. that have no idea what the average wage earner has to experience on a given day.. it is given to them it isn’t an issue to survive.. we as a country have no experience of having a country attacked in a war.. we are expending our resources for someplace else.. this time…. they see us as the main culprit will they finally say.. dam we have no choice they won’t give us a way out of this mess.. Kennedy realized the futility in the sixties and backed off.. Beavis and Butthead haven’t ever had to give any consideration to anything .. I am sure a little bit of the Futility is hitting beavis though.. everything he has thought and been told was the right path has not only failed but came back at him ..
this was what was reprinted during the cuba… dam I bet it is beautiful in cuba right now.. would love to see a coffee plantation..

  32. I just went and picked a fight. THE DUDE asked me to. LOL! They were fucking pissed. HE told me, go call them on their shit and then let fight them when they come after you. Have faith. Oh Fer fucks sake. They are very powerful but you know. This is THE DUDES world not theirs.

Been a while since I picked a fight with them. LOL.

See all those Chinaese bank failures?

The UNITED STATES will not fall.

Don’t forget. God drives a Buick. Important lesson.

Off on a secret squirl mission tomorrow. Running a load up to by canada and a small box of nitro for the mines up there. Haha. Fuck around and Find out. Hahah. Why? Because everyone else says fuck that shit. And I say what is the worst thing that can happen? Hahaha

One day I’m hanging out with Forbes richest man in the world’s richest man in an elevator after being back stage a the eagles. The next day I’m strapped to a freight train doing 60 mph with a box of nitro on the passenger seat next to me.. You can’t write a better story than that. And I’m living it.

With regards to the Geogia guide stones.

Please be mindful of the Lyrics in this song as it relates to Georgia.

    • You ever notice the Leo Symbol is similar to the Omega symbol just from another angle.

      Never noticed that until today..

Well it’s not my fight. They were hopping mad tho. They fight THE DUDE. I will be busy working. Hahaha.

Truly I Am. Blessed and Highly Fortunate!

  33. No nitro for me. Dang. The demo guy grabbed it and is taking it.

I’d of ran it up there. But THE DUDE made it so I didn’t. Surf is up! Ride or die time. Either way. I’m golden. I let THE DUDE take the Lead. Only he can defeat death. I’m living proof of that time and time again. Nobody decides my fate, not even me. I don’t want to be here either. But I am, and I spose it’s for Good Reason.

Someone asked me today, I suspect it is the one who goes by Aether on GLP, where will you go 0? I said where ever The Holy Spirit leads me. The Holy Spirit is faithful. Even when we have no faith. Because its faithfulness is about it and not based on our having Faith.

It permeates and pentitrates all things. To hate the Holy Spirit? Is to hate the force that gives you life. It’s the force that whirls all the atoms together that make you, you. Without it? You would have never existed. Not even the memory of you would exist or the imagination of you. Without the Holy Spirit (female presence of GOD) AKA THE DUDESSS? there is no past or present or future you.

So, I’m mindful of HER love and affection for me. You may know her by her effects. Such as Mother Nature.

    Anyway,

Bummer about the nitro, got all excited over nothing. Let’s the future is much the same. I’d change it if I could. I don’t know how and I’ve tried many many many times.
