The Scotch Bet is on: As measured by our Aggregate Index – cobbled up in the wake of the 2000 Internet Bubble bursting – we have to hit above 48,605.37. If it does, then I will have to pay my consigliere (for on-premises consumption) the Thanksgiving Scotch this year.
HOWEVER, if we fail to close above 48,605.37, he’ll be on the hook.
The Problem is? He called about closing time as the markets were still on that giddy mix of Fed inflation, no one wanting to leave the BoJ Yen-Carry trade, and people just sometimes get stupid (I’m looking at you, Chicago).
“I seldom drink, but the prospect of someone else buying…well THAT seems to have made me a little…uh…thirsty, know what I mean?”
Since he mentioned it…let’s have a “get real” moment. But, first, a word about technique.
DIY Aggregate Building
The basis of our work (on Peoplenomics) is the notion that financial advisors will – like good salespersons – “sell what they have” – but that is often a stretch from Reality. Here is where the market was at mid-summer as the date, aggregate, Dow, S&P, and the NASDAQ show:
Now, as of this morning we see my pal’s thirst has a little way to go: Sure, the Dow is withing 60 some and the S&P only 60-odd. But the NASDAQ has to either gain 600 plus, or they all need to move higher. A lot higher.
But you can see how the Aggregate works. Remember how politicians work (lying, more or less constantly). If ONE index hits a new high, they claim all the credit like they had a damn thing to do with it. But the reality of the Aggregate is that while “nice” – we are still – with the futures reading at 47,693.73, we still have 1.911 percent higher overall.
But then it gets worse. You see, at the recent lows, from the aforementioned summer high in July, the market dropped to 43,932.80. From that top, we dropped 4672.57. Today, one futures pricing, we have bounced but still have 911.465 points to rise.
Or, for real Elliott aficionados: We have risen 3,757.93 points from the low (post July). So, the Retracement (as of today) is in the vicinity of 80.4 percent. 80 percent retracements happen all the damn time. In fact, so do 90 and 95 percent retracements. Pardon me, but I’m feeling thirsty now, too.
The real question (and this is why I get up in the morning) is to see how well Elliott rules apply to the Aggregate numbers. Because the Aggregate is close to a reasonable means of “How much money is chasing stocks” in America. Single indexes? No, they don’t work. Too many excuses – like the TSMC-NVDA mini-bubble around A.I.
What matters most – in our view – is total global cash versus the average prices of all available assets. Which is why – in tomorrow’s Peoplenomics report, we do things like the Global Aggregate because how much money is flowing into, or out of, smaller markets (like Australia, for example) is meaningful when you think about Global Money versus current week’s bidding for Global Assets. (Pretty sure Buffett and (the late) Munger thought about such things.)
Oh – should mention the Nikkei was up 674 overnight (1.8 percent) As goes the carry trade, so goes the Universe.
Life in the Bananas Republic
Scotch bets on markets fueled by made up money make all the more sense with headlines like these running about:
- Hillary Clinton returns to DNC as reminder of ‘unfinished business’.
- Joe Biden DNC Speech Sees Slam Trump, Praises Harris.
Not to be overly cynical about this but seems to us the democrat convention is a lot like democrat performance in office. Tons of grandstanding and left-leading rhetoric but at the end of the day just a waste of money. No reason their convention should differ from much else they’ve done.
Meanwhile, the DA who is leading the persecution of Trump is trying to avert a national insurrection: Manhattan DA signals openness to delaying Donald Trump criminal sentencing. Obviously, only in tinhorn two-bit Third World shit holes do the politicians of one party lock up the opposition candidate and throw them in jail before national elections. Another bottle of Scotch of whether we are fully placed in the Third World shit hole category, yet?
War Party Notes
Joe Biden’s much-touted strongarming of Israel still has bupkis payoff to point to. Why is Israel demanding control over 2 Gaza corridors in the cease-fire talks?
OK, a little harsh. But where is Ukraine peace talks that Noden and Winken have been yammering about? Moscow rules out peace talks amid Ukraine’s operation in Kursk region – media (ukrinform.net)
See, the real deal is that Biden and his posse don’t understand that racism is a big element of how shit rolls in Eastern Europe. Polite stories like Tensions rise as Hungary ignores EU deadline on Russian, Belarusian entry rules (rfi.fr) are somehow buried by the hate stories: Ukrainian Lawmakers Approve Law Banning Religious Groups Tied To Russian Orthodox Church (rferl.org) and Ancient hatreds: Mother Russia ‘desecrated by NATO-backed neo-Nazis’ – Brussels Signal.
Your party, baby, not mine. I’m rolling straight “None of the Above” except in a few Texas races where your word still stands for something.

If you follow science even a bit, you may realize that we’re coming up on five-years since the role of 40-herts flickering light in reducing the onset of Alzheimer’s popped from research at MIT. As soon as that story came out, we were all over it “like white on rice.” Because both Elaine and I have APOE-4 allele indicators.
At the time, we suggested that you could build one of our Light Crown helmets and put a pulsing unit on it to flicker at 40 HZ. And reader Hank – retired broadcast TV engineer even offered a simple circuit to get it done:
But the real pisser, to us, is that even after sending notes to people like Iris and a couple of video card makers, all we got back was crickets. Come on people, Where are the Alzheimer’s reducing TV and Computer monitors?

There is a way to do it with certain AMD displays (Display Changer II – Download (lo4d.com)) but if you have Intel graphics and NVidia, so far I haven’t found a (reasonable, non-programmer) way to set the refresh to 40 Hz.

Just an odd OTR sort of thing in the NYT today a ’20’s SW radio used back then to listen for Mars communications:
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/20/science/mars-aliens-radio-signals.html
Kristen Gallerneaux, a sonic historian and a curator of communication and information technology at the Henry Ford, is a caretaker of many technological relics. But they have a special fondness for the device, a Navy-type model SE 950 radio, and its historic role as a would-be alien-detector.
“It is exactly my kind of object,” they said. “It feels like a buried history to me.”
Manufactured on March 26, 1918, by the National Electrical Supply Company, the hardy portable radio was designed to support troops in combat, but this unit was never battle tested. It ended up, instead, in the Washington, D.C., laboratory of Charles Francis Jenkins, an inventor who played a key role in the development of television.
A boxy radio with several dials and knobs, in front of a plain white background.
The SE 950 radio, designed for the trenches and battlefields of World War I.Credit…From the Collections of The Henry Ford
It might have been used in many postwar experiments, but its golden hour arrived ahead of the 1924 Mars opposition when the astronomer David Peck Todd enlisted Mr. Jenkins to solve a problem that still animates the community involved in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence: If messages from intelligent aliens are wafting through space, how might we capture them?
Woke up this morning with this song going through my Mind – – Eve of Destruction – – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdWGp3HQVjU
Appropriate for this day and age?
While appropriate, I go with Carly Simon, in the Anticipation album, called “Share the End.”
it’s on You Tube.
Theme is not Eve of Destruction, but that it is already here.
Catchy tune – I always liked it. I don’t feel quite that way now, even though I do believe in being prepared. I figure we’re about to get the chance to surf a massive wave of change. Some have said “Surfing the apocalypse”. Either way, let’s cheerfully face whatever is coming with equanimity and grace, while working toward the best practical outcome.
It’s like flying a single engine, single radio fabric covered aircraft in a thunderstorm over mountains at night. No point in being scared – save that for later. You probably shouldn’t be there, but you are. Positive anticipation can help with alertness. Prepping can help, but if you’re stuck in the storm, just maintain situational awareness in the present and keep on flying any way you can. Severe weather doesn’t last forever.
Always be aware of confirmation bias!
Some years back as a pilot I changed from FIKT (flight into known terrain) FFITM (*fucked flying into mountain). Airspeed, altitude, and practice those GPS approached down to DA
Back in the late 70s when I was learning to fly at my hometown midwest airport, we had a nasty thunderstorm line come thru the day before. Next day, bright and sunny, I arrived at the field to find a Cessna 182 parked there in mind-boggling condition. The outer 1/3 of the wings, from the diagonal strut outward, were folded straight up at 90 degrees! Pilot allegedly got caught in the T-storm ‘chimney’ vertical blast and it folded his outer wings up! He was very near the airport and ‘dropped in’ and actually landed the thing in that condition.
My instructor dryly commented “don’t ever go thunderstorm chasing!”
NM Mike,
Your thoughts about a single engine airplane at night over mountains during a thunderstorm describes a subplot of a once famous novel “Night Flight” by Antoine de Saint Exupery. Imagine the state of aviation in 1930 and flying from Argentina to Chile over the Andes. This novel as well as his “Southern Mail” (Casablanca to Dakar) provide an eye opening view of how dangerous it was to pioneer the first air routes. Needless to say the novels are good reads.

Every year the BLS does a revision on their reporting of jobs growth. Goldman Sachs and Wells Fargo analysts believe the revision will be somewhere between 360,000 [ Wells Fargo ] and up to one million [Goldman Sachs] “downward”. They believe the reported jobs numbers have been artificially inflated all year long.
The revision report is due out tomorrow and if it does come in as high as some are predicting – that is going to lay a huge weight on the Federal Reserve to cut rates more then what was expected.
But it has been shown that if they cut too much and too fast – inflation comes right back.

What I was told was it was more vacant than a ghost town in the Harley booth.. even the ones there wanted to leave LOL LOL.. no one was in there when usually in years past there were so many you had to wait in line to even get close to it…. LOL.. good post today.. I dreamed all night about how the churches of the past operated.. the tithing.. and the needs of the church.. ended up writing this huge response to what I see.. such as the forgotten civilizations that once they changed their formats ended up separating due to the conversion to more conventional modern changes.. the catholic church is just one.. I think it was brought about by the wonderful time I had at the colony.. it was reminiscent of years past.. the norman rockwell society.. while today we pursue personal advancement and move away from the way community worked.
I helped construct the emergency plan that our small village has.. there was a tornado that destroyed a small town .. and FEMA had to come in.. they asked all the mayors of the town to submit an emergency plan.. the Mayor and I were talking about it and he wasn’t sure how to move forward on it.. I said son its community not the individual.. you have to go community.. who is a gardener who is a hunter who can build and who knows electricity etc.. each has value one cannot prepare by themselves..
Thomas monson did an article emphasizing this..
https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/ensign/2014/09/are-we-prepared?lang=eng
he did try to get .. yet like most communities.. one attempts to prepare for themselves and not the community where everyone has a value.. instead they push for a self indulgent community.. How will this change the future.. I believe that the greatest achievement’s of the LDS community in the building of temples around the world and the global expansion. will also be their greatest failure in the event that the administration gets what they are pushing for an there is a global catastrophic event similar to the ones written in the Vedic’s.. leaving them as a testament to what their faith was as a legend to be rediscovered in the future by archeologists similar to Babylon or the temple of UR.. most people don’t even realize that there were temples strewn across the USA in various places that still need to be discovered long buried and forgotten.. they are still being discovered today that once stood tall and proud.. by meso american cultures.. or the one that is what under the gulf between florida and cuba….the changes made.. that should never have been all because of the business model .. anyway I won’t bore you all about my dreams of the cultural disparity that was caused by modern shifts.. what is funny is throughout history this is the common theme though .. so we relive history over and over like a continuous loop..
Good article. Truth in humor:
“Many more people could ride out the storm-tossed waves in their economic lives if they had a supply of food and clothing and were debt-free. Today we find that many have followed this counsel in reverse: they have a supply of debt and are food-free.”
Well said.
Absolutely.. the whole church still has the same standing and teachings but has shifted away from the original community philosophy to a more modern business aspect. like all religions that is a move that in the event of a cataclysmic event will like religions of the past be a point of separation..
where the Amish even though they have adopted modern technology and equipment still keep the original platform that they were built upon.
one reason why I believe that they will survive..when the SHTF .. they will have their core values.while the LDS still has their core values they have adopted an individualistic approach promoting the divide widening. as the stress deepens people will be forced away similar to the Mesoamerican culture two thousand years ago.

Ever wonder why “they” never do Health studies on the Amish here in America ?
Amish do know what Diabetes is, have never heard of Autism.
As in the “good ole days” (50’s) in USA, when one kid got sick, they put all the other children in the same room, just so everyone could enjoy the Illness together..instead of drawing it out over whole season.
All the Amish kids got covert19, and they all survived just fine, thank you. All were put in the same “sick room” and “nursed” back into the Pink.

there is a lot of aspects to the Amish way of life that is interesting.. they members don’t feel the stress that the general population feels..
the old guy that ran the winery had retired.. his protégé took over.. we were visiting and sharing recipes.. anyway he wasn’t sure on the equipment .. so I visited with him about the proper way to deal with the equipment to make a better quality of wine.. good lord knows.. my first couple batches tasted like diesel fuel.. he will learn though.. the two young ladies in the cannery were teasing me about my horticultural excellence LOL.. then we discussed canning.. I am trying a new method this year to see if it works.. the young don’t feel the stress that the youth of today feel.. I was trying to talk my grand daughter to join an eco village.. they work on the same principles of the amish still keep the modern technologies with the community based lifestyle….I believe that Its to late for the LDS to revert back to the original standards that they were originally founded on… the good thing is they have the core values.. the bad thing is its every man for himself..
loob, et al, your alternate reality misses that the Amish had the same excess death rate (from Covid) as everyone else:
https://wvutoday.wvu.edu/stories/2021/06/22/death-and-religion-excess-deaths-sweep-through-amish-and-mennonite-communities-during-covid-19-pandemic

(“loob, et al, your alternate reality misses that the Amish had the same excess death rate (from Covid) as everyone else:”)
it wasn’t about excess death from covid C… it was about the friend of my daughters.. she got a home loan that the cost will be forty to sixty thousand dollars a year more than they make.. the youth that were all voicing their concerns because they don’t make enough money.. and the stress free lifestyle that the Amish live.. the Amish children are not worried where they will be sleeping .. the loan companies today sell mortgages to companies funded and owned by foreign interests.. if any of the analysts have any credibility at all.. this thing could be blown out of proportion instantly in a truly cataclysmic situation.. leaving the people struggling today out of a place to live.. the simpler lifestyles..
while we welcome millions to come feed at the trough we forget the needs of those that actually pay the bills.. that is why our infrastructure is at a failing grade.. NOW if those analysts are truly unknowing why in the hell are we paying them millions to give us their analysis..
we need to take care of the country first .. our needs..
depends on who you use as a source and how they do their number crunching, here is an article where they are targeting the Amish to get vax/clot shot
Michael Derr, health commissioner of Holmes County, was quoted in an April 2021 story published in NPR saying the county’s COVID vaccination rate among the Amish population was as low as 1%.

” national insurrection”
The myth that someone/something outside of ourselves will save us is in our psyche.
The Brits have King Arthur.
“Arthur will arrive again on British shores to take back his rightful throne at the time of England’s greatest peril.”
If King Arthur does show legacy bobbies will arrest him. You watch.
Not a lot is made in America yet all the big nameplates are on bailout to compete. The cars, steels, airlines, chips, hotels – farm subsidies. The hooks are in. Nobody bites the hand that feeds. It’s just the way it is.
Trading was turned off for a lot of folk. Imagine the servers being turned off to Swifites for concert tickets. We’d still be hearing about it and Swifites would be compensated.
The other end of the Swiftie spectrum is a J6’er. The Supreme Court is dandy but some of them have been locked up for about 5% of their life force.
See.. that’s what my dream was about..not insurrection but the ability to work together .. As communities and leaderships of faith families leave behind the core values of our ancient leaders in search of personal greatness rather than community.
but in the civilizations of old..the central core of their existence revolved about community as one just like religious teachers that asked for a ten percent tithe to benefit the whole of the congregation. today we have taxes that was meant for the same purpose. one look at the trail of tears and the struggles they endured..where it changes is as it is put by Plato in his book or play
Plato in his philosophy gives very important place to the idea of justice. He used the Greek word “Dikaisyne” for justice which comes very near to the work ‘morality’ or ‘righteousness’, it properly includes within it the whole duty of man. It also covers the whole field of the individual’s conduct in so far as it affects others. Plato contended that justice is the quality of soul, in virtue of which men set aside the irrational desire to taste every pleasure and to get a selfish satisfaction out of every object and accommodated themselves to the discharge of a single function for the general benefit.
Plato was highly dissatisfied with the prevailing degenerating conditions in Athens. The Athenian democracy was on the verge of ruin and was ultimately responsible for socrate’s death. Plato saw in justice the only remedy of saving Athens from decay and ruin, for nothing agitated him in contemporary affairs more than amateurishness, needlesomeness and political selfishness the desires of self satisfaction which was rampant in Athens of his day in particular and in the entire Greek world in general. In additional, Sophistic teaching of the ethics of self-satisfaction resulted in the excessive individualism also induced the citizens to capture the office of the State for their own selfish desires rather than community.
today we face the same thing ..rampant self desires without regarding the needs of community. a congress that is more interested in self gain rather than the security of the population.
almost every community and every religious group has faced the world of the business model. we outsourced our industrial talents. look at a Chinese family group..I have a great deal of respect for their family model of honor.. its a family .. I like everyone bought the business model had some horrible experiences. learned just how much I personally took for granted in life. when the doctor wanted to put me in hospice and I viewed the end..I realized what I had given up..
oh boy I could go on in my moronic ramblings.. what we need are legislators that rather than seek out destructive legislative power to control and gain personal wealth..that they work once again for the benefit of those that allowed them the job. instead they sit at home or get some self beneficial stock purpose all while neglecting the needs of the taxpayers.
then I am just some old stupid idiot with the mental capacity of some toad..
Sorry about the delay and I know this website isn’t setup for long-term banter.
“the core values of our ancient leaders ”
Core values is what I trying to communicate describing Vance marrying an Indian or Indians being inserted into Western .gov in general, as example. Indians are a caste system. (Jewish folks are a merchant system. Somewhere in the Western bible it describes Abraham as a merchant, “”the God “…sent Abraham, a merchant.”) Those are the core values.
Plato started Republics like around 300, 400BC and you cited him, that’s your culture. Indians don’t cite Plato. Point out differences and they’ll call us haters.
actually.. I believe it could be the opposite..questioning reality originated in India, the famous story example of a coiled rope on the ground mistaken for a snake at a distance, the person betrayed by his senses and own false conclusions that what he was seeing was a snake. The deconstruction of the mind and our beliefs to what we observe is central to Indian philosophy and spirituality, and then we see its the same exact standpoint of Socratic thought which is based around the systematic contradiction of false beliefs in an attempt to find some kind of truth in the things around us. This fundamental backward engineering of the mind is central to both schools of thought. In eastern culture the practitioneers are interested in what one is aside from his mind. Socrates is looking for the truth, and doing so finds out he knows nothing – his mind is just a collection of nothings, fallacies. Similar conclusions, on both philosophical positions.
Upon this consider Socrates himself, a spiritual figure akin to a yogi. He walked about barefoot, unwashed, he cared little for his physical appearance or possessions. there’s a lecture that was given some time ago that suggested Plato and Socrates formed their philosophy from the teachings in india based on the vedic’s..where they supposedly got their teachings from Chinese philosophy of buddism. it is said that the darsana ( to be looking)began during its first century of existence, Buddhism spread from its place of origin in Magadha and Kosala throughout much of northern India, including the areas of Mathura and Ujjayani in the west. and was the original inspiration for the Roman philosophical standards of philosophy..we of course will never know..what goes around comes around..which came first the chicken or the egg..or is it great minds all think alike

George also asked what it would take to drive this circuit from 12volts. I believe you could run 12v directly into it instead of 5v as listed. The LM317 is a step-down regulator and should handle 12v. Might need a heat sink on the LM317.
There’s also an adjustable premade lm-317 regulator board on ebay for $6 bucks.

That is not the end of it, oh no siree! Recovery blows big baby chunks..painful Groinage for a day or 2.
Of course Ure “caring” neighbor may give you a copy of The Bad Lieutenant(vhs) -wit Harvey Kietel to watch while nursing Ure sore Groinage with bags of frozen vegetables.

Quantum entanglement in the myelin sheath as a means for intra and potentially inter brain synchrony?

This is just the abstract. It’s new. The article requires payment or institutional affiliation(or other…). I’ve not yet found it open sourced. I’m sure I can find it eventually at the university library.
here ya go mike… great article.. Harvard usually has the articles that Yale won’t share.. so does MIT and Virginia tec. BYU etc..im an old library crawler from way back.. if you get a chance to hope I’ve Idia has some wonderful books and courses you can take online free..you don’t get any credits for them but at my age a coloring sheet for the wall wouldn’t mean a thing.. I keep the wall and door of the fridge open for the important coloring pages.. those made by little fingers..
anyway enjoy the article..it is a good read worthy of contemplating..

This pdf has the actual meat of the article, if your math is on par with our radio engineer types. I have yet to read the details, but it does seem to have enough info to be worth exploring further. This is a subject I was interested in since my 20’s and the original hardware perceptron designs. The quantum connection hadn’t even been theorized back then.
Open courses are great when you have time for them. They can keep the seasoned neurons firing more accurately and responsively. Unfortunately, there are only 24 hours per day and I insist on sleeping some of the time, so we’ll need to expand the number of days we have. I definitely need to learn more about quantum theory and it’s effects on our perceived reality!
you are we!come… Yeats ago I took care of the scientist that planned the Apollo missions.. he wrote most of the text books that was being used in the colleges.. nice guy we would go out and watch the meteor showers and discussed ma y things… ( yes we went to the moon..there wasn’t any way he was so passionate..as passionate as I am about kitchen gadgets) he would get so frustrated because I didn’t have the passion for quantum .. his favorite thing to say was..have you thought about it.. great guy.. I still see his son once in a while..never did ask how dad was or if he was still around..
his dad would be proud though..I actually did get interested in quantum and read his books.. what an interesting subject..
(hop over to India has..)
Canada and china has some great educators to.. I do love libraries…
I got a letter from the smartest woman I’ve ever met..she still reads 1.5 books a day and a lot older than me.. married a guy I was in the service with since his passing we visit quite often lol lol met her in the stacks of the LOC over fifty years ago..her life is quite a bit like mine with just about as much gain lol lol.. the one person I wouldn’t even contemplate debating either..she’d send me to the stacks if i even tried lol lol
Someone introduced Dr. DCA Hillman at this site. His YouTube videos are shocking and strange but his thesis is quite interesting,(free on line). His book ” Original Sin, Ritual Child Rape &the Church ” could, and maybe should, change modern culture. Thank you to the person who posted a YouTube video about Hillman. He might come across quite weird but he is thoughtful , intelligent, and a clear writer.
Must be reading some of that trash they have in israel..lol lol or the Talmudic teachings..I still believe the only reason that deal is out there is to give everyone the visual of how NOT to treat others lol..
if its rotten and just wrong its in there..its why I had such a hard time as a child getting my beliefs right..and every theological scholar would quickly run away as soon as I started asking questions..
It’s a pedophile’s manual.
Not being married, I sleep with an Icom R75 receiver, twirling knobs and pushing buttons throughout the night.
This morning around 4:15 I started to hear several distant stations on 3806 here in NW VA.
S3 or so. They would hear me probably at the same level. Kinda faded away by 4:40.
Hmm… I must not be as old as you. I prefer a blonde and keep the radios out of the BR…..
I’m rather agnostic regarding hair color. It’s the other attributes that matter.

Mean like the leech class dems aren’t hurting anyone?
Historically, if the strike is ruled an economic strike, then the employer is free to replace. Simple things like doing the negotiations out of the proscribed order can result in a strike being classified as an economic strike.
From what little I have second hand knowledge of (labor negotiator in the family tree), the local union reps don’t know how to conduct negotiations, don’t listen to union counsel, the labor board rep., or the management reps, and p!ss away their bargaining position stroking their egos. The Company then cleans house, and the Labor Board can’t do anything about it.
Stu probably has more recent first hand knowledge of the Rules.
Well.., crap !
Sitting out in the shade with the misses when she slowly stands-up and looks over me.
“Is that smoke?”
I turn around and see a column of tan/gray smoke rising in the distance.
“It sure is., looks like around Stayman Flats ”
Two minutes later as we are standing there gawking her cell phone goes off like navy klaxon horn. She peaks it up.., and reads:
Country Emergency Management has issued a Level One Evacuation for the following areas due to a sudden brush fire in the Stayman Flats, Navarre Coulee area.
The areas affect by the Level One Evac included “us”.
Level One is basically – There is fie close by – pay attention
Level Two is basically – The fire is really close – pack-up and pick a route
Level Three is basically – Flames are at your door – boogie on down the road.
So.., we will be on alert for most of the night.
Just as I was coming in I saw in the distance – a twin engine prop-plane doing a drop-run on the fire.

Went outside after checking the maps – saw two, twin engine water bombers and two, four engine retardant bombers making a run on the fire. Just as I was coming back in I saw a twin engine retardant bomber make a run. They sure got on this one rather fast.
We are still on Level One., but a huge section west of us has just been put on Level Three – Get out now !
Roughly 5:40PM
Boy, there are a lot of aircraft !
Gotta be a C&C somewhere controlling all of this.
.
Level One Evac has been extended even further. No Level 2 at the moment – it’s all Level One, or Level Three.
.
Still enough daylight to continue the bombing runs.
.
7:06 PM
Darkness – 9:01 PM
All is quiet. No planes, or helicopters.
Level 3 Evacuations have been lifted for two-thirds of the area – now on Level 2 Evac.
We are still on Level !.
Morning we will have more info.
Interesting night.

NOT AN ENDORSEMENT for any of this stuff, and probably not even the best price for most of it — just an opportunity to share the wealth (of knowledge…)
I got a cup brush.. .99 cents.. free shipping.. the shipping was eighty cents from california.. made in china of course.. what gets me is.. what was the original cost of the cup brush.. great brush.. I love it use it all the time.. but thinking about it.. how many did they send to the USA from china to get shipping down enough to offer that brush for a buck…..If a whole pallet of empty drink cans is twelve dollars and they still made money on them.. and a dishwasher retails in Turkey for four dollars..
then the thought of the Democratic party going with a tax of forty four percent on UNREALIZED GAINS… so who decides.. my house taxes are three hundred a month… and the value of the house is going to go up another thirty percent.. and its value now is about a quarter million.. the actual cost nowhere near that.. the maintenance on the sewer and water pipes is going to have them raise the water bill again.. omg.. considering what we take in.. I don’t know how we will make it..
Temu seems to have warehouses in CONUS, in many of the same places as Amazon. I’ve bought stuff from them 4-5 times now, and every purchase arrived in nine days or less, and without a hitch. The 9-day package was a steel building that weighed several hundred pounds and came in multiple FedEx packages. It was also over $700 cheaper than any local source. I’ve mentioned I don’t have a problem with “buying Chinese” when I need to. I have a problem with paying American prices for Chinese stuff. I don’t know if Temu is building their own warehouses in Amazon distribution towns, or merely renting space in Amazon warehouses, but as long as they’re cheap like this and don’t welch on their warranties, I’ll be pissing money away with them.
Most of these things, I tossed up here because I thought they might interest certain of George’s readers.
10 bucks for a one-handed, self-contained arc welder? 34 bucks for a 100A charge controller? AYFKM?
I wasn’t even looking for low prices, just looking at the stuff, itself, and marveling at the variety of available merch…
The “arm protectors” are Kevlar gauntlets; the Vevor stove is their bigger stainless stove and comes with a bunch of pipe.
I actually ordered one of the multimeters (it’s only a $16 gamble…) and I’ll probably eventually buy the portable rocket stove (it’s 6 pounds; the one I have now is 16.) IMO EVERYONE should have one of those safety harnesses. When the SHTF it may be impossible to hire a young’un to patch your roof or sweep your chimney – ergo, we old farts may have to get on a roof in our 70s, 80s, or 90s, and I can’t even imagine how painful it would be for a brittle old man (or woman) to take a 12, 16, 20 foot tumble, assuming we lived…
I hear ya on that one.. I love Temu.. buy from them all the time.. great stuff to.. I just got a lot of the christmas gifts.. all the girls are getting a jade necklace for xmas.. the boys are all getting a light.. ( I give a light of some sort every year..) be the light shine your light .. sort of message.. and a pasta press.. I do love home made pasta.. so everyone gets a pasta press.. one of the kids was reminiscing about us making pasta.. it was the highlight of the kids growing up..
its like the dishwasher.. that sells retail in another country for four dollars and fifty cents.. our appliance dealers get it.. then offer it for four hundred dollars.. what was the shipping prices.. but a unit made in the USA.. with chinese parts.. is almost three grand.. the part that got me is .. when we first got the first dishwasher it was made in the USA and we got over thirty years worth of use from it.. the units they sell today we barely get two years out of.. of course something like the COVE dishwasher.. each piece is tested and given the parts are of the best quality.. but then so again is the price..
https://www.subzero-wolf.com/cove/dishwashers/24-inch-dishwasher-water-softener-panel-ready
the repairman.. ( he had to come out the four dollar dishwasher broke down and needed to be fixed not even a year old ) he said the cove is a tank.. made to last a lifetime.. like the speed queen the price was worth the purchase.. I love our speed queen laundry setup.. its already lasted longer than any of the others.. we would have had to put in two other units by now.. in the next year.. the four dollar unit will be broken down I am pretty sure on that.. it is better made than most of them.. but it still a four dollar unit.. we decided the next time it breaks down.. we will just not get another one take the money they give us back on credit and use it for something else.. now that it is just the wife and myself.. we aren’t doing dishes seven times a day..
Passing of the unrealized capital gains AND a 48% capital gains tax would be a neo-Stalinist declaration of civil war – beltway leftists versus everyone else.
Wait you say- Stalin never passed an unrealized capital gain tax. No, but the effect will be the same as his economic plans- 100 % confiscation of capital assets except maybe small rural garden plots.
I began informally interviewing coworkers in the late eighties as to how they survived being out of work for years in the mid-eighties.
Their stories were very similar to the stories I heard from Eastern Europeans who grew up under communism. All had some little rural place to live with low taxes which was paid for, away from restaurants and big box stores- Family farm, fish camp, deer camp, rural cottage, trailer. etc, preferably with a garden spot. They and their families based there. If work came available, they came into town and either camped or took a small apartment on short lease. I eventually came to structure my own life along those lines, largely because it afforded maximum flexibility. But then came rural internet and telecommutes.
The main problem I see is that with 48% capital gains tax rate AND unrealized capital gains, any property ownership beyond a shed shelter and a garden becomes an unbearable burden. This would rule out camps and farms as a hide-out. Dumping real estate before years end may become a necessity if the D’s get control of congress.
I’ve been seeing these various rumors of taxing unrealized capital gains. IMHO, this would be a playground for horrible bureaucrats to make rules as the choose and harass the rest of us to death. In most cases, “unrealized capital gains” are not quantifyable unless there’s an actual sale, and the best they could do would be to “mark to market” in some haphazard way. The problem is that many/most people have run their entire lives with the idea of keeping their capital gains unrealized until selling off little by little as we get older in a way that keeps us in the zero tax bracket(after exemptions, etc). Without that, older people and some younger folks would be deprived of their life’s accumulation.
At that point, nobody would work for any economic activity at all beyond subsistence unless at the point of a gun.
When I built my business years ago, I worked 20 hours a day, hired employees and paid their salaries before I paid myself. Over the years my business grew and I expanded the facilities and hired more people. I looked at the day I could retire and use the funds from the sale of my business as the retirement for my wife and me.
Under this proposed budget policy, the business would be taxed for value increase each year. That money would not be available for hiring new employees and expanding. It could not possibly grow at the same rate. Fewer employees, fewer sales and slower growth.
One more thing. What government employee is going to determine the value of my business each year? If the government decides they need more revenue to pay for housing and feeding illegal immigrants, they may place a value on the business higher than I could sell it for in the open free market. Who would want to buy it except the government.
In other words, this is the Liberal way of taking over businesses and promoting government controlled economy.
Just the devil himself… spreading temptation! :-)
An illustration of why ‘coupon books’ work so well on housewives who don’t get out much… or tool sluts who…
ROFL!
For a couple hundred bucks you can buy a steel shed to house your new tools. That copper mesh looks like chicken wire but it appears to be made of, between #30 and #36 bare copper, where chicken wire is #24 or #26 steel. I’m thinking it would make a really nifty buried enhanced ground for suck soils, like sand and stone, or a Faraday cage if your name is Brill…
I live on a lava flow… think concrete stone. NOTHING gets buried here without a D9 ‘dozer with a jackhammer attachment!!
You get a D9 with a rock ripper and I’ll come over and put in a ground for you.
“You get a D9 with a rock ripper and I’ll come over and put in a ground for you.”
Y’know, I’ve suspected for years that you simply like to play with D9s (or maybe dozers in general.
Now might be a bad time for me to mention that you can buy a new, Chinese dozer or excavator, from a number of vendors on Alibaba, for $2000…
(…and don’t think I’m not considering it, too.)
Good god Ray, send the links =- and an electric start bandsaw sawmill while you’re at it.
Also see if you can find a D11-T knock off for under $3 thousand with free shipping, as long as I’m wishing…
I think most of us guys enjoy playing in the dirt with big toys. Unfortunately, most require a great deal of maintenance and even worse – parts! Some parts can be made, more can be repaired, but check out the price of a gallon of hydraulic fluid! One bad hose can split open and dump tens of gallons of fluid!
Right now I’m trying to find a sickle bar mower, but those things are rather scarce, and somewhat pricey. Temu doesn’t have them, and though AliExpress does, the shipping cost more than the mower.
I believe I am now officially on Elaine’s shitlist:
