Here’s the flavor of the day so far: Cramming and Jamming morning around here.
Been up since the wee hours trying to escape the God-awful CenturyLate email system only to slam headlong into another modern disease: Cell Phone Arrogance.
You know the type. The growing institutional assumption — now embedded everywhere from WalMart to the U.S. Patent Office — that if you don’t own a cell phone, don’t text, don’t scan QR codes like a trained circus seal, and still believe a keyboard is for writing instead of thumb-pecking… then you are effectively a digital non-person.
A “nothing.”
It’s fascinating, really. The very people who lecture endlessly about “inclusion” have quietly built systems that exclude anyone who refuses to strap a tracking rectangle to their hip 24 hours a day.
And yes, before the younger crowd rolls their eyes, I know all the arguments:
“But it’s convenient.”
“So much faster.”
“Everybody does it.”
Fine. Everybody also once thought fax machines were the apex of civilization.
Which is why my last two patent applications went in through the mail like it was 1978. Not because I can’t use the modern systems — but because increasingly the modern systems seem designed around the assumption that all humans are permanently reachable livestock.
Still… don’t let my bile ruin the coffee, right? We have a bubble to track, a life to hack and then to the sack for another whack, tomorrow.
Rolling a Number or Three
“Ricky don’t lose that number...” offered today’s guiding influence, if we may speak bluntly? Three for the road on your way to the mines: GDP, Durables, and UI Filings: “Bartender, line ’em up and let’s pretend it’s Saturday!”
First shot (pretend it’s tequila, right?): And don’t gd pee all over: It’s happy talk, you see?

Second shot is Durables: (Have a lime with this one.)

Third glass is Disposable Income (this is where the BS meter pins)

Now have an unemployment back, shall we?

Now, turn them all up[side down on the bar – slug down another swallow of bean, and let’s blink.
The National Blink First
News Junkie Rehab time! This is where we only think about change vectors because “same shit, different day, isn’t worth the emotional overload or time sink. Here goes:
1. Camp David Was the Tell
Trump planned a rare Camp David Cabinet session, then moved it back to the White House, officially due to weather — but the timing lined up with Iran/Hormuz negotiations and fresh U.S. strikes, so the Blink is “crisis-management posture,” not picnic logistics.
2. Iran/Hormuz Is Back on the Front Burner
The U.S. sanctioned Iran’s new Strait authority while accusing Tehran of trying to control shipping through Hormuz. That keeps oil, shipping insurance, and military escalation risk in the “watch closely” box. War risk on-again play?
3. Fresh U.S. Strikes Changed the Tape
Reuters reports new U.S. strikes hit an Iranian military site and drones near Bandar Abbas. That means the ceasefire/peace-talk story is now mixed with active kinetic operations again. Also see the dLynne suggestion of which job opening NOT to send a resume on…
4. Oil Is Whipsawing, Not Calming
Oil plunged on peace-deal hopes, then rebounded after renewed U.S.-Iran fire. This is not price discovery; it is geopolitical roulette with gasoline, diesel, and freight attached.
5. Trump Is Accusing Iran of Waiting Out the Midterms
Trump said Iran is trying to stall until after the U.S. midterm elections, while insisting he can outwait them. That turns foreign policy into domestic political timing risk. But hey, maybe they just want more pallets of cash, right?
6. Oman Suddenly Matters
Oh man, huh? Trump publicly rejected any Iran/Oman control arrangement over Hormuz and issued a hard warning toward Oman. That is an odd but important Blink: a mediator/ally can become part of the pressure map overnight.
7. Markets Are Starting to Blink at War Risk
World shares slipped and oil rose after the strike headlines. Not panic yet — but the “AI makes everything fine” trade now has a serious energy-price adversary. The “ice” not to slip on is the RCVW – the relative currency valuation war.
8. The Dollar Caught a Safety Bid
The dollar rose on renewed U.S.-Iran tensions, which tells you global capital is still reaching for the least-bad shelter when the Gulf gets hot. Stock futures got softer here, and downright squishy in Europe.
9. Cabinet Optics Looked Bigger Than Normal
The Cabinet meeting covered Iran, domestic politics, fraud crackdowns, Trump Accounts, D.C. renovations, and immigration — meaning the administration is stacking war, wallet, and election narratives into one operating frame. Blink, but don’t blur CabOpts into…
10. “The New Normal” Now Includes War, Apps, Surveillance, and Gas Shock
The real Blink is baseline shift: Americans are being trained to live inside permanent friction — phone-ID bureaucracy, energy volatility, war-risk pricing, and political theater. Useful before running for cover: keep cash, fuel, food, comms, and your documents boringly redundant.
Regional Blinks
We’re going to do something abnormal (which, come to think of it does define us, doesn’t it?): We’re going to “slices and dices” the country into five parts: Northeast, Southeast, Upper Middle, Lower Middle, and Left Coast.
Northeast: Utility Bills Are Becoming Weather Bills
Connecticut’s Eversource rate story is the tell: “grid hardening,” storm recovery, inflation, and smart-meter costs are all becoming household line items. The Northeast Blink is that electricity is no longer just power — it is weather insurance – billed monthly.
Northeast: Farming Got Frost-Bitten
New Jersey’s crop disaster declaration after an April freeze reportedly put roughly $300 million in crops at risk or gone, with blueberries hit especially hard. The change vector is simple: spring weather volatility is moving from farmer problem to grocery-shelf problem.
Southeast: Hurricane Season Is Quiet — Until It Isn’t
The Atlantic basin has no active tropical cyclones right now, but the season opens June 1 and “homegrown” close-in systems remain the thing to watch because they don’t give much warning. Good news: no named storm today; bad news: Gulf humidity is already acting like it owns the lease.
Southeast: The Power Bill Rebellion Is Spreading
South Carolina’s Dominion settlement points toward another utility-rate squeeze, this time near 8 percent. The regional Blink is that the Southeast’s old cheap-power advantage is getting eaten by infrastructure, storm risk, and fuel-cost math.
Upper Middle: Farm Country Is Still in the Squeeze
Midwest soybean producers are getting pinched by equipment costs, soft crop pricing, and tariff blowback. The Blink is not “one bad season”; it is margin compression in the people who feed the spreadsheet crowd.
Upper Middle: Rain Risk Keeps Working the Soil Calendar
NOAA/NWS outlook material keeps pointing to repeated heavy-rain/flood risk across central U.S. corridors. That matters because wet fields don’t care what the planting schedule says.
Lower Middle: Texas Is Still the Weather Casino
Houston saw thousands of lightning strikes and widespread outages, while Texas remains under rolling hail/flood/storm risk. Around here, the Blink is not whether weather happens — it’s whether the grid and insurance books can keep pretending this is exceptional. Meantime, at the Voter Casino which opened Tuesday, Cornyn is out and Republican nominee Ken Paxton will be senate-seat grabbing against Democrat nominee James Talarico. Which could aggravate the weather picture with even more hot air coming…
Lower Middle: Gulf Moisture Is the Guest Who Won’t Leave
South-Central Texas just worked through hail, damaging wind, and excessive-rain risk on already wet ground. Translation: saturated soil plus another thunderstorm complex equals “don’t drive through stupid.”
Left Coast: California Says the Budget Is Fixed
Newsom’s May Budget Revision claims California’s structural deficit is erased through July 2028 (uh-huh…) while protecting major spending priorities. The Blink is whether this is real.
Left Coast: Wildfire Is Becoming a Permanent Rate Case
California’s wildfire, utility, and budget fights keep converging into the same household question: who pays for living in beautiful places that burn? The Left Coast Blink is that climate, insurance, power bills, and housing are no longer separate stories — they are one invoice.
Drought and About
With the rain barrels nearly full here, we’re able to keep “dunkin tomatoes” (not doughnuts). As the Food Sovereignty plan we’ve been working is coming up to the top of the Food Coaster lift tower:

The weather this year has been enough to drive us to drink – and it explains all the upside down shot glasses.
Around the Ranch: Aging and Yesterday
I spent several seconds of downtime this morning (2:34 AM) noticing a quirk about aging that Elaine and I are going through. See if this sounds familiar – just four examples:
- Elaine has a half-dozen empty perfume bottles she hangs onto.
- E also washes out cottage cheese containers for possible future use. “Can you use them for painting?”
- George has a huge archive of half-written books he’s promising to finish – just eating hard drive space.
- G also has more than two dozen HF ham stations in his collection that will never all be on their air at the same time.
As my meditation on point continued, it dawned on me that “things that surround us” may act as time anchors. I’ve told you this (crackpot)) theory before. That some of the “friction” that impacts us (visiting) World Observers on our present spins around the sun is excess “attachment to things.” Not in the Asian philosophical view (which is largely emotive in nature) but more in the “Look around the house and assess your life as an orchard.” Do you see fruits or frictions?”
Are empty bottles your fruit? Are we ever going to make cottage cheese? Will I ever have time to finish writing even four or five more books? And when will I admit that no, the Vintage Radio Museum may remain a ham radio niche vacation destination dream forever?
Could it be that too many supplies, too many “saved things from earlier in our lives” may be an actual indicator of aging? That could really change-up the priority list…
Thankfully, 2:39 AM showed up quickly, announced by a microwave ding telling me “You need more coffee.”
Write when I wake up,
George@Ure.net
Seeing attachment to things as time anchors is an interesting thought. Whenever Diana starts in about my collection of time anchors, I gently remind her that I consider those as essential possessions and the areas they occupy as hallowed ground. Just like Jay Leno’s garage.
Stay safe. 73
You and I just need better tax counsel – I bete that collection is losing money hand over fist – on paper with operating and maint costs, lol
I often consider my lovely wife High Maintenance but well worth it.

Shalom. “What happens in Vegas…”. “KSNV” informs that charges have been dropped against a gentlemen who is an alleged house property manager. The home had been raided earlier in the year after accusations of it’s being an alleged biolab.
Separately the Las Vegas tv station notes that the house owner of that and another raided property a block away is a Chinese national. He is to be sentenced in August for allegedly marketing fake covid-19 test kits.
Frenchman Mountain overlooking the suburb is named after an early 20th century Belgian conman believed last seen heading north to Canada via Spokane, Wa. Apparently he had a recipes for salting ore with gold, and fraudulent fundraising as a German count.
Separately this morning, early risers in America may have seen the President of the Ukraine livestreaming to Youtube from somewhere in Sweden.
re: “Procrastination”, G. Ure
feat: a First Lady seizes the day
The President of the Ukraine gratefully accepted keys to a future convocation/pride(?) of Swedish Gripen (sw: “Griffin”/half lion half eagle) fighter jets.
Meanwhile closer to the front, the First Lady attended a “Book Arsenal” book show in Kyiv organized by an anarchist, anti-globalist, former BBC journalist, and war veteran Mr. Butkevich. She recommended three titles by Ukrainian authors:
– “Hemingway Knows Nothing”, Dron, Old Lion Publishing House
– “The Triangle of Power: Balancing the New World Order”, Stubb, President of Finland
– “Narratives of Mass Destruction: Tactics and Strategies of Information Warfare”, A. Zakharenko
A separate bulletin of this past Tuesday on the IFJ (International Federation of Journalists) website informs that Mr. Zakharenko’s home abode was completely destroyed in last Sunday evening’s Russian missile and drone attack.

G, right there with you on cell phones. I really don’t like the way gen pop seemed to fall all in with tracking and privacy loss.
Lol, and I finally think I have something in common with E regarding storage & stuff. Though, from time to time, I purge and try really hard to re-home some of it to fellow crafters and artists.
22The drought I have to disagree with. My lil slice o’ heaven shows us still in yellow. Considering how much rain we’ve gotten here in S IN, no way – no how. Believable in April, but May was monsoon season. I had to seize the day when we had sunshine and work on the garage beautification project. Rain + metal building paint job = failure. Thankfully, this week coming is looking to be less humid and more sun.
The most insidious thing besides always on GPS is the non-removable front camera. I’ve never used mine and if it’s hacked, then your face and environment is visible to the hacker. You cannot put the phone down without one camera being able to see everything. I have my front camera taped and may epoxy over it just for peace of mind. If you do that, make sure you don’t obscure the light or proximity sensor, or the screen may go black. Nobody would design a “phone” the way these things are unless tracking and invasive monitoring was their primary desire.

Weird cowinky dinks..as usual nowadaze. Better half and myself got back from trip to NC in April, and realized at age 63 going on 64 soon, that we might have too many houses and too much “shit”.
I got Collections from both sides of Family, and with my little Mom in Hospice Care now, well more stuff will be coming back to my place. So I have instituted a new House rule; you have to get rid of 1 Item per week..out of my Basement in Pennsyltucky.
So far, so good; yesterday was TWP monthly LARGE ITEM PU day and we had plenty to PU. Will prolly roll with one of those “Dumpster Bags” come the Fall Season. Can already See structure again in half of the basement storage area that has been decluttered.

I haven’t commented in years but the cottage cheese thing got my hakles up. if you have a sou vide stick then put 2 quarts of milk in a jar and a half quart of kefir let it go at 95 for 12 hours and then bring it up to 185 and you’re gonna have perfect cottage cheese. it depends on the quality of your milk and kefir, but for the prep and straining it’s so easy. Keep the whey and use it to cook rice.
A long time ago in a place far far away (1980s) republicans were afraid of a 10 nation confederacy of europe. They figured it would rule world as religious outfit out of rome. Those folks kids are now running Trump 2025 outlooks. Trumps empire of USA is counter to Europe 10 nations. Iran and trump are counter to Russia and Crymia. the cheapest house around here in an unsafe neighborhood to buy would take thirty dollars an hour to pay for it.. twenty for the payment ten for repairs and maintenance… now if you have daycare car expenses etc..you can’t afford one..you can’t afford low income rend in a wage adjusted..the facility I work at is probably the cheapest in our area..At 80,000.00 a year plus medical dental and personal care supplies..all meds have to be gotten from the designated pharmacy.. Tylenol.. generic…$20.00 a tablet..well maybe more..that’s what it was thirty years ago..probably gone up with inflation..
the place I took my parents to in the early nineties you bought the room 12 x 20… at that time the cost was $ 190,000.00 plus $4,000.00 a month per person maintenance.. once your money is gone and you have to go on federal assistance.. the assistance is $3.00 per hour..which is why nursing facilities charge so much..theres trillions spent on health insurance.. only to have them make excuses why they don’t have to pay..the biggest profits on stocks..I know two of my kids have gotten some pretty amazing perks working in the insurance industry..
I wonder if they are advertising for a replacement yet?

Been tearing up everything stored deep in lockers and letting the stuff not used in a year hit the street. Best find was Mom’s sterling dinnerware and associated platters, teapots, and other useless doodads. But with AG at the current value those forks each weigh 1.5oz. And the knives, salad forks, tea spoons, soup spoons, serving spoons, all are getting towards pounds. Might cover the cost of one of those cool plug and play watermakers. That’s my kinda downsizing.
Meanwhile the weight is getting shifted to trim the boat better and plans are developing for a quick haulout, inspection, and then some local exploring.
This land living is not doing it for us..
Floating calls.
Stiks
My mother’s house was full of stuff. I didn’t realize, until she was downsizing to move into assisted living, was that the stuff had names attached. They were gifts from people who cared enough to give her things. When she looked at her stuff she saw all the people who loved her.
There was a nun, an early saint, who became gleeful as her relatives died. Each relative was a tie to the past, a tie to the earth, a reminder of another life. Each person, each memory, took her away from her goal of union with God, from her ultimate goal, her life quest.
Stuff isn’t just stuff and people aren’t just people.
(“Southeast: The Power Bill Rebellion Is Spreading
South Carolina’s Dominion settlement points toward another utility-rate squeeze, this time near 8 percent”)
The truth is they simply can’t lower power bills anymore…. Deregulation in the early eighties changed the whole business model platform — Its the same thing that happened to the healthcare industry…. Once you uncouple the essential services from stable pricing , everything becomes a feedback loop…designed to make larger profits better wages for the top tier of industry…
As prices go up wages should realistically go up to compensate for the rise in the cost of daily living ,
Due to increased operating costs the utilities have no choice but to go up too to meet their cost increases..less product same package size.. Since an employer is also facing these increases they can’t raise wages to be competitive instead they cut man hours… It’s an economic spiral — the classic economic death spiral well that’s how I framed it..sometime ill tell you the nightmare if the $37.00 coffee maker.. once your in the spiral..its hard real hard to pull up from it..especially if your in the laboring sector of employees — where essentials rise faster than income can ever catch them…. Ive been there..hard to stop the fall..where interest and costs rising faster ..
Look at housing as a prime example. A $30,000 house from twenty years ago now sells for half a million.. A few days ago it was determined that an average employee making an average wage cannot justify or even pretend that they can afford to own one so new housing should be falling not rising…. My power company just raised rates ten percent — not even outrageous by today’s standards but wages didn’t rise ten percent to match it… instead the companies cut hours..the healthcare is notorious in cutting from the bottom support staff to justify the wages and benefits at the top..the neighborhoods where the issues everyone in the lower tiered neighborhoods deal with daily simply don’t exist.. simply can’t see it..its not an issue in their neighborhood… When the incoming doesn’t exceed the outgoing, you’re not just “tightening your belt,” you’re sliding toward the same pattern countries like Zimbabwe, Argentina and the Weimar fell into….its not a problem till it is..in those neighborhoods it will seam like it happens in a lightning flash..
What i see is People today are surviving on the buy now pay later plan..because the system has no slack left to give them..Its the essentials they absolutely cannot live wuthout — housing, power, food, insurance — all climbed faster than wages have.. I will never forget the hospital collection calling every hour and reinforcing the view that I was some disposable person..even saying outright..if you didn’t have the money to pay for your care..then why did you seek a doctor…
And even with all this going up construction starts are booming.
Who’s paying $50–$100 an hour for labor when not long ago people in nursing were making $4.50 an hour? That’s not growth..
When the cost of living outruns the value of the dollar, the dollar melts like an iceberg. Slow at first. Then all at once….
I believe that’s what surprises me more..Is The Dollar Illusion…..
If you have one dollar, and the government prints another dollar, your original dollar now represents half of the total dollars in circulation….
So its purchasing power drops the thirty thousand dollar home becomes a half million or more..And even though the number printed on the bill hasn’t changed the reality of the dollar has..
That’s the part most people never see… they know it but like the ostrich they hide the reality from their view..they live in the bubble.. it only affects someone else..not me..
They look at the number in the bank and think dam I’m doing great..
“I still have $10,000 — I’m fine there’s nothing wrong.”
I’m probably all wrong in this point of view..those smarter than myself can obviously see the light at the end of the tunnel the glittering gold flecks of yehaw..
The E. Jean Carroll case against President Trump is one of the strangest civil cases in American history. The foundational problem is this: Carroll could not identify when the alleged incident occurred — not even the year with any precision.
That should have killed the case as dead as a skunk on the road right there.
Without a temporal anchor, no defendant — regardless of guilt or innocence — can mount an alibi defense. Trump, who has maintained detailed calendars and staff records for decades, was denied the most basic tool of self-defense: the ability to establish where he was. That is not a technicality. It is a due process violation at the constitutional level.
Then Carroll produced the one piece of physical evidence she claimed corroborated her account — the dress she wore during the alleged incident. It was subsequently established that the dress was designed after the incident could have occurred. The sole corroborating evidence falsified her timeline.
The case proceeded anyway.
The resulting verdict was then weaponized in a defamation suit — where Trump was held liable for denying the allegation, while being procedurally barred from defending against it, because it was already “proven” in another court, regardless how flawed the procedure was. He was punished, in effect, for asserting his own innocence.
Compounding everything: coordinated professional and physical threats so thoroughly intimidated the legal community that attorneys refused these cases regardless of available fees. When you systematically destroy a defendant’s ability to retain counsel of choice, you forfeit the right to a legitimate verdict.
An allegation is not evidence. Process without substance is not law. And a verdict produced under these conditions carries no legitimate authority — whatever its formal status.
Not only is it the right move to investigate Carroll, but every other person involved as well. Trump is owed serious damages here, and there may be a few people who belong in prison for their roles in the case.

Additionally, the wealthy don’t go to the store, the store comes to them. Bloomingdales (and every other top-shelf NYC department store) has a remote squad — a tailor, fitter, fashion consultant or coordinator, and a couple grunts to move the product.) When some 9-figure exec or 10+figure mogul wants to, say, buy a suit, the store sends the squad to that person’s office or residence to take measurements and supply sample suits, tuxedos, or other, less-formal attire, for color and pattern coordination to the “busy professional.” The mogul also doesn’t buy an “off the rack” suit or tux and (s)he NEVER “goes to the store” (unless they’re a store mogul.)

I don’t care whether she can suck a camel through the eye of a needle, or not. If she can chop wood and do the dishes, sign me up!
I filled up tonight for $3.00.9…
Mine was $6.19.9. Enjoy your deflation!
I wondered why that blurb on Jean Carroll came out yesterday:
BREAKING: The DOJ has just launched a CRIMINAL investigation into E. Jean Carroll for PERJURY in her deranged lawsuits against Donald Trump
AG Todd Blanche has RECUSED himself from this case. They CAN’T cry weaponization
You can tell CNN is devastated
“Our sources tell us that this investigation is focused on a 2022 deposition that Carroll gave where she said that she had not received any outside funding.”
“Now, her lawyers later told the judge that she had in fact received funding for legal fees and expenses from billionaire Reid Hoffman.”
“The judge overseeing this case ultimately said there were no issues with her credibility and blocked Trump lawyers from asking about this at trial.”
