The set-up to this is simple:  Dems are screaming as Trump momentum stalls.

But, behind all of it, is a big-ass Economy.  And yes, we still have one. So it’s useful when panic is in the air, or we are midpoint in a rally in a longer time domain decline, to remember inertia.

How do we measure economic inertia?  Well, people are still shopping.  Social Security checks are still hitting banks in a timely manner.  The IRS is still very much in business – you have 28-days to postmark.

So while the whining of the armchair Marxists about “necessary” jobs – from the “Zero Deliverables” class ofd bureaucrats natter away – the Reality is that despite job-jacking and traitorous trade from terrible tyrants who sold our tech out to China (and the rest of Asia), we remain an economic Powerhouse.

How to Measure “Flywheel Stored Energy”

In non-economics (real-world) physics, it’s called the Kinetic Energy formula.

Where:

  • E = Stored kinetic energy (Joules)
  • I = Moment of inertia of the flywheel (kg·m²)
  • ? (omega is = Angular velocity (rad/s)

So, the faster the flywheel spins, the more energy is stored.

Then – in a perfect setting like space (which is close-enough for home use) the spinning wheel continues, as Blood Sweat, and Tears instructs, to go “round and round.”

Unfortunately, the “spin” of the Economy is hard to judge. In addition to (political) friction losses, the Economy also runs of an etheric vaporous substance called Hype – whose chemical symbol is BS.

Fortunately, on this particular Tuesday, we have additional measurement tools offering insights to the statute of the “got ta go round” part.

“Shimmer Me Timbers”

Gold was continuing to spin-up with Futures trading $3,038 earlier.  Apparently the “paper gold” people are adjusting to the spin from the Comex – which no longer honors certain London contracts. Silver’s also firmed a bit – trading just 2-bits away from $35.

Fools coins (backed only by the availability of clearing processors, ahem…) were pushing (or sucking) $82,650-ish when we looked.

Lumber prices have been slow on the uptake; we think the need to export from Canada will keep prices in reason.  But we also expect California insurance policies will see record “slow pays” on claims.  (NO, don’t look surprised… The flywheel effects were noticed last week in Commissioner Lara orders insurers to fully investigate consumers’ smoke damage claims following Southern California fires.  What was it Jerry McGuire said?  Something about money, if I recall.

“U.S. import prices increased 0.4 percent in February following a 0.4-percent advance in January, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Higher fuel and nonfuel prices in February contributed to the overall increase in import prices. U.S. export prices rose 0.1 percent in February following a 1.3-percent advance the previous month.

And shortly, the Fed will be along with Industrial Capacity and Utilization data.  And this one will reveal  any new capacity (factories and what-not) being added.  (Too soon, mostly hype) and increases in production (we are expecting muted because of recession fears).

The rest of the story will come tomorrow afternoon when the Waffle Haus  Federal Reserve Rate Decision is handed down.  Expect syrupy talk and something for the pigs.

Short column.  At 76 I am done with real work.  Urban – as promised – will shrink the free side as the real work product – like tomorrow’s 6-thousand-odd word treatise on The Secret Life of Death will be on the Peoplenomics.com site.  $40-bucks a year, but AI tells me it’s in the $300 class so yes, raising prices will come but “founder prices” for all who are current will be part of the mix.

Meanwhile I turned off Google ads – the more to the point I write, the less revenue “mysterious” from ads,.  Screw ’em.  You’ll have to suffer with faster page load times, I suppose.

With that, a full menu of dancing with work awaits.

Some of my favorite things were discovered and learned how to do during my lowest moments in time. take my wine making..if I hadn’t gotten deathly ill and the medical facility getting guff from the health insurance company to get me booted off the plans if the wife hadn’t had that minor stroke during that same period of time.. they would not have ever gotten rid of her. if they had let her get unemployment compensation..If the wife hadn’t said to me gee I wish I had a little wine..I wouldn’t have ever learned how.. a year no income.. ( only for seasonal employees the unemployed workers rarely get this) we wouldn’t have struggled the year without an income. if the farm crises hadn’t happened and I had to walk many miles in winter ..having to re-roast old coffee grounds.. I wouldn’t have ever learned how to roast my own.. ( second crack is the best.. it pops like popcorn ) take the most expensive coffee in the world.. Coffee Luwak… the poor plantation coffee pickers wanted a few beans..the rich plantation owners told the poor..if you want coffee then you can have as much as you want from the S@#t of the civet cat.. the poor washed the beans and roasted them ..the rich plantation owners got curious.. everyone was flocking to the cat shit .. it was meant as a disrespectful insult and everyone was anxious..why.. and coffee Luwak was birn..the most expensive coffee in the world.. so.. I got thinking when I had an email from a dear friend that reminded me that the best things originated in the hardest times..to improve or or have some quality of life..
    anyway it got me curious.. can I replicate that complex process at home ??

    the wife hates it when I spearamint on different things..but can I replicate the enzymatic digestive process..I got the stuff to do it.. lets give it a try..

    Enzymatic Fermentation Recipe for Green Coffee Beans
    Ingredients:
    1 lb (450 g) green coffee beans (high-quality, unroasted)

    2 cups fresh pineapple juice (contains bromelain enzyme)

    2 cups fresh papaya juice (contains papain enzyme)

    1 tsp unrefined sugar (optional, to feed microbes)

    Sterile filtered water

    A glass jar with an airtight lid

    Equipment:
    Brewing thermometer

    pH meter or pH strips

    Fine mesh sieve

    A clean cloth for covering

    Instructions:
    Step 1: Prepare the Enzyme Solution
    Juice fresh pineapple and papaya. If you don’t have fresh fruit, use store-bought juice labeled “not from concentrate” with no additives.

    Mix the two juices in equal proportions to make 4 cups of enzymatic solution. Add 1 tsp sugar if desired to stimulate fermentation.

    Step 2: Prepare the Beans
    Rinse green coffee beans thoroughly in clean water to remove any surface dirt or debris.

    Place the beans in a clean glass jar or container.

    Step 3: Start Fermentation
    Pour the enzyme solution over the beans, ensuring all beans are fully submerged. Add sterile water if needed.

    Cover the jar with a clean cloth to allow airflow while preventing contaminants.

    Step 4: Control Fermentation Conditions
    Keep the jar in a warm place (around 80–90°F or 27–32°C) to maintain active enzymatic activity.

    Stir the mixture gently every 12 hours to distribute the enzymes evenly.

    Monitor pH using pH strips. Aim for a pH of around 4.5-6 for controlled fermentation.

    Step 5: Check Progress
    Allow the beans to ferment for 24–48 hours. You’ll notice changes in aroma and a softening of the bean surface.

    Taste-test (optional): Remove a small sample of beans and rinse thoroughly. Roast a few and evaluate for flavor.

    Step 6: Finish and Dry
    Once desired fermentation is achieved, strain the beans and rinse them in clean, cold water.

    Spread beans in a single layer on a clean surface to sun-dry or use a dehydrator at low temperature (around 110°F or 43°C) until the beans are completely dry.

    Step 7: Roast and Brew
    Once dried, roast the beans using your preferred method, experimenting with different roast levels to explore flavor profiles.

    Grind and brew to enjoy your unique, enzyme-fermented coffee!

        I think I may just use the more sterile way to make those $455.00 a pound beans lol lol lol… I have never tried coffee Luwak you can get mixed cheaper but not totally just like Jamaican blue coffee there are mixes where they will put an ounce of the good stuff in with a pound of the regular and push the sale of it as Jamaican blue… but I do love coffee.. got a pound of beans coming from the same region by way of the ZON..
        it should be interesting .. who knows …This should be interesting at least..if it turns out good then dam… a fun spearamint anyway..

        • Yoh my god Ray…. phew thats a WOW… I love Jamaican blue… I totally forgot ..that groc 3 said to pre soak the green beans in sugar water before the fermentation.. I am actually getting excited to try this.. the wife will roll her eyes at me but oops..I got to try it..I think I will try the air fryer roasting option. I have one of the bean roasting baskets that will work.. it was a big decision..I have a hand roaster and a little more primitive but you have more control..
          the beans are to be delivered tomorrow..totally excited..

    • Should be LOTS of clay soil in the area G lives … the bigger problem will be getting it on all the soon to be undwater surfaces of the pond evenly and thick enough to do the job and self seal any cracks that develop.

      Around here the “pond builders”, who you pay have a person they can call who will work the equipment to do that work in an efficient manner, but I would imagine if you have never done that type of work and are trying to do it yourself it you may take 10 times as long. (good rich black soil around here so every pond you build HAS to be clay sealed or it will drain out in no time)

      G may want to talk to the county Ag Extension Agent (if they still exist after Elon Musk’s cuts) since the local Ag Ex Agent has probably assisted people with a lot pond building issues over the years

    If the current (1929-like) fractal decay model is correct, all global composite indices should have several % points declines over the next two trading days (Wed/Thur) with (an interim bounce and) a significantly lower low in an additional 5 trading days.

    The Nikkei and the European STOXX have a 10 day 1st fractal base whereas the the US composites have a 9 day 1st fractal base, following 12 February 2025 9-10/23/23 day crash decay fractal series akin to the 12/29/27 day 1929 initial crash decay fractal series.

    The Hangseng Index and Shanghai Composite have 12+ to 13 day 1st fractal bases starting on 13 Jan 2025 and are following two slightly different 13/29-32/33-28 day growth and decay fractal series.

  9. Most of Ure current PN customers are too cheap to pay anyone $300 a year for a subscription for anything. That’s almost double Prime, which comes with some serious bene’s. You are probably overdue for a price increase to $50 a year. I’ll go $50.

    I have started a trial on a sleep grounding set-up. No ground rods, or connection to safety ground. I started with a 2″ x 4′ x 1/8″ aluminum flat (<$20). I drilled it to fit a copper grounding bolt (<$7). I used a cotton with silver thread mattress topper, under a Gen 3 Miracle fitted sheet. The sheet is bonded to the aluminum strip, which goes under the bed with a couple of boxes on it to keep it laid flat. I bent the end with the bonding screw with a hammer so the bonding bolt clears the tile under my bed, and the flat lies that way.
    Sunday night, the last night before the trial, I was miserable with arthritis pain, and woke multiple times, after too much Sunday afternoon work. First night of the trial, I was hurting a bit at bedtime, but went right to sleep, slept all the way through to the alarm and woke with no pain. Dreams were more vivid than the status quo. Impressive start. Sleeping all the way through is usually maybe one night in two-three months for me.
    Hopefully I will get around to making some measurements this weekend, to see what sort of impedance ground I have managed to achieve at the surface of the top sheet. Not sure that the hard low impedance ground is necessary or even desirable.

    • The key thing to remembner is take an ohm meter and put one end on the ground and wipe the other end across the pillowcase or sheet.
      If there’s not low resistance, you’ve got a dud setup. A lot of people put in mnatress toppers that are grounded and then put an INSULATING SHEET over it and wonder “Why no effect?”
      Skin contact (to ground via a low resistance ground, say under 3,000 ohms, or so) is what you’re after. Once one part of the body is so grounded, internal conductivity of the salt bag body will take care of charge bleedoff…

      • I still think that a velcro ‘grounding strap’ (from the solid state workbench) around your wrist or ankle would be an easier setup and connection… unless one is a ‘thrashy’ sleeper.

      • Understood. I have an AC plug with a 20′ #12 AWG hooked up to safety ground conductor only and a spring clamp on the other end for investigating grounds. It was long enough to route under the bathroom lavatory and check the VOM between the AC safety ground I was referencing off of, and the Cu cold water pipe. That was very low resistance, and looked right.
        Going from the same AC safety ground back to the aluminum flat was over >200K ohm, which I would judge a bust. The ceramic insulating floor tile, were ceramic, and DC insulating. The AC impedance may look completely different, but this is a DC sideshow. I will need to think about this a few days, before rushing into an escalation. I am not going to bond to the safety ground, regardless.

        • My main concern is the link from where your body (or head) touch the so=called conductive sheets. Once it “hits copper” (as in wire) youy’re home free. But the core of Earthing is the bleeding off of accumulated charge from the body and if the resistance of sheets or pillowcases (merasured to ground) is high, there will be no effects. So putting a grounding surface UNDER a sheet put in an insulating layer – and kills the effects sought after.

    • Thanks for the info. Wondering about the “bonding” of the mattress topper to the aluminum strip. How is that achieved? We live in a doublewide, so I’ll need to drive a ground rod outside and run the wire through the wall.

Not long ago I wondered how the organizations that gave us Cronkite, or even Brokaw in the day, could become so wayward? That, in their thinking as opposed to presence. They still have network polish but lack objectivity.

    Eventually, as a reformed Republican turned Independent, my suspicions grew that media had become an arm of the far Left. Nope. It turns out the far Left is subservient to media. The fish stinks from the head down. We have entirely lost the 4th estate. Should peace start breaking out (anywhere) their mea culpa should be great. As if.

  12. Actuaries say when older folks retire they have a spike in deaths about one year later….seems leasure is not good for them.

      • cc: I did a lot of research on life transitions and psychological stress 40+ years ago. The early post-retirement deaths were apparent even then. What was not controlled for in the accounts was people being forced into retirement by ill health. Nevertheless, retirement is often a stressor even for the healthy — just as having a child or getting out of prison is.

    • Yeah it’s’ the people whose whole life revolves around ‘the job’ and don’t have a clue what to do with themselves when there’s no job to go to. I’ve told my younger friends to start thinking about what they want to do with their lives after retirement… it sneaks up on you. Plan ahead to keep busy at… something! My best career engineer friend retired early at age 55, but with no plans. At age 62 he was dead.

      My Dad was his credit union’s loan officer for over 20 years. He not only got, but studied the actuarial tables…

      However, these days, who retires…?

  13. Don’t hold your breath waiting for California to bump up building material sales. The CA gov plan is to drag out all rebuilds and wear down the affected. They want high density housing and want the grandfatherd low property taxed out, especially in the Palisades. The rebuilding will take decades and most just don’t have the time or patience and will relocate. That is the plan. Nobody is rebuilding shit anytime soon.

    I have some experience with pond building and I can tell you it can certainly be a time sink once you get started. In my case it was an obsession, just ask my wife. I will try to butt in re: your experience when I have more time.

    Today Finnish media outlet “Italehti” (Evening Newspaper) has posted extensive motorcade coverage of President Zelensky and the First Lady going from the airport to the back door of the 4.5 star Hotel Maria in Kruununhaka (Crown Hook), Helsinki. This pinnacle of luxurious Nordic hotel design has been open but little over a year following refurbishment. The edifice dates to 1882 having been constructed by the Grand Duchy of Finland under the auspices of Tsar Alexander II of Russia. Initially the abode sheltered officers of the Uusimaa (New Country) Battalion. That force remains in existence as an elite unit for urban combat ops.

    [George] Soros created AOC, and owns her. Their relationship is like Rockefeller/Nixon, on steroids. He can not only “back” a candidate, he can flat-out create one, and then sell him or her to the low-information voters. Remember, Biden was the 2nd most racist congresscritter for years (until Robert Byrd died and made him #1), and somehow the entire American voting public was made to forget this in less than a month.

    You have to read to discover that Israel didn’t break any truce. The headline should read: “Palestinian truce ends. Israel resumes aerial campaign”

    USIP was set up as an NGO attached to Congress, not the Executive. Popular thought is it is untouchable because of the way it was set up. Unfortunately for USIP, it functions with taxpayer dollars. IMO Trump can’t eliminate the agency, but Musk sure as hell has the ability to audit it, and either the House or da Prez can cut its funding source to $1.

    BTW, USIP is not a CIA “black op” organization, but it is far from happy, clean, and honest…
