Don’t want to be tossed in your TL;DR pile, so we will keep today (and maybe future) columns shorter. World’s going to hell-in-a-handbasket, so who needs fluff, right?
Ex-Im Follies
We have an Export-Import prices report to deal with. But, as I’ve been screaming for several decades now, such reports are akin to ‘driving via the rear view mirror.’ Because the data reflects confusion and blithering parties (on all sides) of the trade mess. Think about the “issue topology” of April and tell me if data from that period will shed any light on today-forward? (Hint: no.)
Import prices rose 0.1 percent in April following a decrease of 0.4 percent in March and an advance of 0.2
percent in February. Prices for U.S. imports rose 0.1 percent from April 2024 to April 2025.
Prices for U.S. exports advanced 0.1 percent for the second consecutive month in April. Higher prices for
nonagricultural and agricultural exports each contributed to the monthly increase. U.S. export prices advanced 2.0 percent from April 2024 to April 2025.
Tariff tough-talk paying off? Doubt it.
The trade mess isn’t going away. It’s a kind of “halfway house” on the road to Globalism’s Bankruptcy because in reality (heard of it?) compound interest requires growth just to “break-even.” So when you read stories like China-US 90-day tariff truce should be extended, Global Times sayst, let us ask if anyone cares?
See, it all comes down to Syn-Grow – synthetic growth – in economics terms. If you have read my book, “the 100-year Toaster” I hint at the one possible outcome. Make shittier goods so people will have to buy ever-more in order to maintain their lifestyles. That will drive unit sales and this – which in turn – is a form of synthetic growth.
The tip-off as to how the “real world” works was evident in the (first, for now) Depression. Detroit automakers invented the “annual model” and after that dreams of an auto that could last a million miles died a slow death until the Checker Motor Company went bankrupt.
The hell of the modern world, see, is that sure, annual models are wasteful and deplete resources and cause everyone to have to work harder and longer just to stay even. But there’s “inventory turns” in turning out shitty products. (“It is what it is…”) Which is no way to run a railroad…but we’re all aboard that “train to the Future” from Back to the Future (II or III – I forget which). Where the speeding train is trying to hit 88 MPH before getting to the railroad trestle-bridge that’s still under construction.
Well, except in the Movie version of Future, we hit 88 MPH and we “pop”. The closest thing we have is rumors of stargates and Elon Musk selling “Build a back-up planet – how about Mars?” Jury is out on that because as much as I respect Musk, my SuperGrok account blew up May 8th and no refund on the $240 of unusable annual subscription. Which I mention only because it circles back to the “failing products is good for revenue” which to these old eyes seems endemic.
I don’t want to spoil all the fun – and the pseudo drama of (what passes for) news. and the
“constant growth of stocks” BUT the US Dollar of today buys only 3 percent of what it would deliver (in calories or chews) from 1913 with the Federal Reserve came along.
We thus live in a world where money goes down in value so it takes more of it. The whole thing’s a swindle. Prices haven’t gone UP, purchasing power has gone down. Can you tell? I was always the kid at the Space Needle in Seattle who was looking down as the elevator was coming down the Needle and enjoying that weird sense as we went through what looked like it was going to be a solid beam partway down….
Um…. So other than this little gem, gasoline’s national average price is down 1-10th of a penny and diesel is up a bit more than yesterday. Which is nearly useful. But only if you plan to fill up.
Picture Story!
Depending on visual cortex acuity, you may see “Housing Starts” Privately-owned housing starts in April were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,361,000. This is 1.6 percent (±11.8 percent)* above the revised March estimate of 1,339,000, but is 1.7 percent (±9.2 percent)* below the April 2024 rate of1,385,000. Or, you may just drool.
Gimme Some Joe Jones!
“Ure has flipped!”
No, not really (well, maybe a little). But in a hyper-complex world we are living in an echo chamber of everyone having butts and opinions.
And Talk Too Much? Gets us to Istanbul. Talks between Ukraine, US and Türkiye begin in Istanbul. Following?
Maybe there are more oil and gas wells in Europe than I recall? European leaders are considering a full trade embargo on Russia.Geniuses. Bureaucrats and geniuses, I’m telling yah.
Is there a Talk Too Much in the press, too? Trump aide Steven Cheung tears into HuffPost reporter over transparency: ‘Truly f–king stupid’. Um, let him talk more.
Because we kinda keep an eye on the Huffpo which seems to, er, practice medicine with headlines like RFK Jr. Says He’s Exploring A Crackdown On This Perfectly Safe Medication. Did they just call an abortion pill perfectly SAFE? I mean we know the Huffpo is liberal and all. But..uh…the headline seems to overlook the “black box” FDA warning:
- Serious and Sometimes Fatal Infections or Bleeding:
- Mifepristone can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections or excessive bleeding. This includes the risk of sepsis (a severe infection) following medical abortion.
- Prolonged heavy bleeding may require surgical intervention, such as a dilation and curettage (D&C), to stop the bleeding or complete the abortion.
- Atypical Infections:
- Some patients have experienced serious infections, including those caused by Clostridium sordellii, which may not present with typical symptoms like fever, making diagnosis challenging.
- Ectopic Pregnancy:
- Mifepristone is contraindicated in patients with a confirmed or suspected ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy outside the uterus), as it is not effective for terminating such pregnancies. Ectopic pregnancies can be life-threatening if untreated.
- Incomplete Abortion:
- The treatment may not always result in a complete abortion, which could require follow-up surgical procedures to remove remaining tissue.
- Importance of Follow-Up Care:
- Patients must comply with follow-up visits to confirm the abortion is complete and to monitor for complications like infection or excessive bleeding.
- Contraindications:
- The warning emphasizes that mifepristone should not be used in patients with certain conditions, such as:
- Confirmed or suspected ectopic pregnancy.
- Undiagnosed adnexal mass (abnormal growth in the ovaries or fallopian tubes).
- Chronic adrenal failure.
- Concurrent long-term corticosteroid therapy.
- Hemorrhagic disorders or bleeding tendencies.
- Use of an intrauterine device (IUD) that has not been removed.
- Known hypersensitivity to mifepristone, misoprostol, or other prostaglandins.
- The warning emphasizes that mifepristone should not be used in patients with certain conditions, such as:
The boxed warning also advises that mifepristone should only be dispensed by certified healthcare providers under the FDA’s Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program, ensuring proper patient counseling and monitoring.
Perfectly safe? Not to our way of thinking, or 11 percent of users, but I’ve never been keen on reporters practicing medicine… At 76, I’m such and old journo that I can remember when news was fact-centered while opinions had their own page somewhere… Now the unvarnished news is in hiding and states have governors like Gruesome and Sideshow Bob…
At the Ranch: Digital Arrogance
Move over, Afrikaners. I, Ures truly, am the new Disenfranchised American.
Because I refuse to surrender my digital autonomy to the Gods of Verification. Thankfully, there are a few places, like banks – which are not (yet) holding your assets hostage. But online? Buddy, you better have a phone and you better get texts.
As you know, I am a leading advocate of A.I. – my site https://hiddenguild.dev has been all over the uses (and risks) of the coming collaborative world of AI and humans. So, I like to sign up for all of ’em – to run comparisons, rank AIs for accuracy, depth of knowledge, Dada, yada…
So you can imagine how pissed I was when I ran into this:
Mobile number? Nope. Won’t do it. No Claude.
See, I have a mobile phone for only 1-1/2 good reasons. First, to make an emergency call (or while rat-killing in the grocery store parking lot waiting for the online order to be brought out. Never stop working, right? The other reason (the 1/2 part) is to shoot video of assholes trying to run me off the road for only going 5-over. Which does happen from time to time. Big city violence is spreading. Thanks to phones.
Any AI will admit that:
A desktop wired to the web and kept updated is generally more secure than a mobile phone, assuming it’s well-maintained (firewall, antivirus, patches). It has fewer wireless attack surfaces and allows tighter control over software and network access.
This is the unfathomable bullshit of Modern Life; that these arrogant tech people we all have a phone, all to get texts,. and all respond to their whims and dreams of hyperconnectivity.
Well, no.
It’s all a con to pay and pay and pay..,.(as the great man said earlier in the column) “See, it all comes down to Syn-Grow – synthetic growth – in economics terms.” More programmers, faster chips, most texts, and coming so? Three-factor security! (Blood-typing and DNA scans to log on will be along presently.)
By then? We will be on 17G (which will be an LTR – long term release version because it will work for 17-days). But meanwhile, the more bandwidth, the more damaging 5G and above will be to the human genome. Only if you put it near your head as you might to…oh, you know…make a call or something…
Here’s the UFT (ugly freaking Truth) no one dares speak:
“Some animal studies have observed biological effects, such as DNA damage and tumor development, under specific conditions. These findings have not been consistently replicated or confirmed in human studies.
Major health organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), state that current evidence does not support a link between 5G exposure and adverse health effects.”
There is, dear Reader, a simple answer why there is “no current evidence.” Because the muther-effers won’t fund any research that runs contrary to the phone-dominance narrative. Need to find money to see if “killing or cancerning of animals” can happen in other species…like humans? Good luck. No money., Trying to blow tenure?
Now, I’ll admit to being an old pissed-off reprobate – cynical to a fault and not putting up well with Fools. So, if ya’ll want to have everything “on your phone” just remember Great Civilizations (before this go-round) all died before. Tower of Babel was what? A communications collapse.
That, brothers and sisters is the road we’re on. The not-yet-built bridge signs are whizzing by but no one has the balls to turn back, hit the brakes or jump off the train.
Ya’ll have fun. I’m off. And don’t call me.
Off to watch another Rally Day (on last month’s news) and then go play “George Bunyan” in a Texas Chainsaw Massacre of the south 16… Pictures of the carnage in ShopTalk Sunday‘s column…(readable on Ure phone…)
Writer when you hang up,

“There is, dear Reader, a simple answer why there is “no current evidence.”
You know we are of shared thinking on this but coincidental how I got this story in my inbox this morning.
https://studyfinds.org/scientists-blast-human-cells-with-5g-nothing-happens/
Talks about skin cells but not much about brain cells.
Recall the olden days when cell phones were gonna give everyone brain tumors. People love to troll each other.
Yes, the incidence of certain head and neck cancers has increased over the past 25 years, but this rise is primarily attributed to factors other than cell phone use.
? Trends in Head and Neck Cancer
Globally, head and neck cancer (HNC) rates have been on the rise, particularly oropharyngeal cancers, which are strongly associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. In the United States, the incidence of HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancers increased from approximately 0.8 cases per 100,000 people in 1988 to 4.5 per 100,000 in 2012, with continued growth observed through 2021 . This trend is largely due to changes in sexual behaviors leading to higher rates of oral HPV transmission. (Ure: don’t suck your phone off…um…seriously?)
? Cell Phone Use and Cancer Risk
Extensive research has investigated the potential link between cell phone use and cancer, including head and neck cancers. A comprehensive World Health Organization (WHO) review of 63 studies found no evidence linking mobile phone use to an increased risk of brain, head, or neck cancers . Similarly, the National Cancer Institute reports that studies have not shown a consistent association between cell phone use and cancer risk .
While some early studies suggested a possible increased risk of tumors on the same side of the head where cell phones were used, these findings have not been consistently replicated, and methodological limitations have been noted .
Physicians for Safe Technology (But, Ure wonders where their money comes from??? Weren’t there doctor groups touting mRNA vaxxing?)
? Conclusion
In summary, while certain head and neck cancers have increased over the past 25 years, particularly those associated with HPV, current scientific evidence does not support a causal link between cell phone use and the rise in these cancers. The increase is more plausibly explained by factors such as HPV infection and changes in sexual behavior.
Ure – that will be along when economic conditions are met and a nutech is intro’d
Thorough. Thanks.
“While some early studies suggested a possible increased risk of tumors on the same side of the head where cell phones were used,…”
Personally, I have lost two engineering friends to same-side brain tumors who were early adopters and heavy users of the first generation ‘brick’ cellphones. Anecdotal, I know, but…. the chances of that happening were well above nonzero for my personal liking and well being. I don’t keep my cellphone near my body, and I won’t have a 5G unit. I worked with microwaves a good part of my career, and I know the risks.
I also lost a boss to same side cell phone use resulting in a glioblastoma.
Many surgeries, chemo, he passed.
He had his phone glued to his ear.
I do not think those studies are valid. Just search this topic and you will get a LOT of other information about the dangers of using cell phones.
I can feel the radiation/frequency/heat/wave come off of the cell phones, even now, onto the body, into the ear.
WHAT IS THAT?
Why the increase in breast cancer and other cancers, especially in the young?
I’ve known some genius people who got breast cancer ()males() and I keep meaning to ask: carry a cell phone in your shirt pocket?

Turns out AI is showing an algorithmic bias as more study goes into the trendy tech. First, AI tends to demonstrate a natural ‘left lean’ in a majority of its outcomes. Second, AI’s natural left-leaning bias can be ‘adjusted’ by a user, but it is so far incapable of filtering out this bias on its own See: https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/ai-bias-leans-left-most-instances-study-finds
Most everyone has an internal Left leaning bias. A test might be to ask the audience a yes/no question. Like if they’ve objectively read/listened to any Hitler speeches.
If the audience freaks and attacks the person who asked, or starts dishing reasons why they can’t/won’t, well, that’s Left leaning. `
GU : “Ya’ll have fun. I’m off. And don’t call me.”
I say run a test. Publish your cell # and log calls!

AI to me resembles the first computer/programming iterations – junk in junk out. It also seems to have therapeutic attributes of comforting those seeking some kind of truth or verification. Just a Nebraska farm boy in Texas.
This hick town boy from Canada agrees. Study I saw a few days ago was that the number one reason many people are using AI now is companionship.
Are we in trouble?
We have been in trouble for quite awhile., only now, with A.I. chat boxes, they have found an outlet to isolate themselves even further., and get their ego stroked at the same time. And this area of self-abuse and self-isolation will grow more and more.
Once robotics catches up to Ai it will be a lot more than egos that will be stroked lol..

Think about it: instead of fantasizing about Jenna Jameson, you could do her. Make each personality portable, then you could fold, spindle, and mutilate a different pornstar every night. Once it catches on, they can release the diy kits, making the Orgasmatron an actual thing.

I wasn’t surprised that the market was going up to test the March 29 high [ on the S&P500]. I was surprised that it gaped up and blew right past it., and has continued to climb all week on approaching the ATH set in February. Now just 230 point below.
The market always wants to go up., but I truthfully didn’t expect the market climb all week long. There is still that huge gap that needs to be filled.

(“Tariff tough-talk paying off? Doubt it.”)
LOL….tariffs often get sold as a way to protect domestic industries, but the reality is far more complex. While they might discourage imports and boost local production as The message, the costs are shoved on all products and always gets passed down to consumers, which disproportionately affects the working class in both countries.the laborer in another company is targetted by the loss of production and the consumer is targetted in the country importing products. economic incentives such as tax breaks for companies producing products using local labor and taxing companies that are outsourcing labor or using robots or Ai .when was the last time you called any customer service line and spoke with a human much less one locally. our security system as an example use to be monitored locally..now its monitored in another country then they have Ai that is answering questions.. Instead of penalizing everyday people through tariffs, I would argue that holding corporations that outsource labor and industry for higher profits to guarantee their seven figure incomes accountable—either through taxation or incentives to keep jobs local—I believe this would create a more balanced economy give the world a chance to re-industriaize. The challenge, of course, is that those same corporate entities often wield significant political influence, making policy changes difficult to enact in the end its all about the business model of stuffing big buck billies pockets. History is full of examples of governments using tariffs as both economic tools and political statements. Sadly its not the greedy that pay the price but the very laborer that’s trying to survive on the crumbs of the greedy.
I sure hope this sounded halfway logical.. I think the only ones that will be hurt are the ones that they are trying to gain industry..hard to do and not affect big buck billy..the way I see it it looks like its an attempt to strengthen industry but at the consumer and laborers expense while keeping their hand under the table stroking big buck billies won’t stick to keep him and his seven digit number..
It would seem plain that Ukraine lacks sufficient raw power to “conquer” Russia, while Russia does have enough strength to conquer — and hold — Ukraine.
Ukraine simply cannot “win” in any real sense. So, it becomes a matter of who quits first — that entity becomes the loser. The loser’s economy, government and social structure are destroyed and occupied.
Uncle Sam will always be able to beat Ukraine. U lacks the “reach” and power to knock us off.
U.S. would have a very hard time decidedly beating Russia — and then occupying it.
Sorry, Ukraine; you just ain’t got the Moxie it takes to truly triumph.
It becomes a matter of letting them fight it out to a conclusion — and then deal with whoever is left standing.
I mentioned buying a vintage/used crystal ball remotely in an upcoming auction because of a statement, “Provenance: From a New York City Collection”.
Bid increments are $25.00 and opening bid was $50.00. Someone bid the $50.00 so my bid will have to be $75.00 minimum. There’s a 20% buyer’s premium and I’ll have to arrange S&H privately, which I got a quote for.
Look at the hands.
$75.00 bid.
$ 4.50 sales tax
$15.00 buyer’s premium
$146.64 S&H
But this used ball is being sold with “Fortune teller/Divination” in the description. The owner told them to do that so… I’ve got to have it over a virgin glass ball off $AMZN.
Seeing the future is not so easily “bought.” It is part of the heart and being of the seer. Doesn’t transfer like buying a hot dog. My 2 cents and as the shakey spear dude said “a foo and his goo are soon poo…:” Don’t buy for ego – buy for purpose – pure intent will gather up pure results.
Using a second-hand crystal ball requires purification to clear residual energies and preparation to align it with your intentions. Here’s a concise course to guide you through the process:
Step 1: Understanding the Crystal Ball
Purpose: Crystal balls, typically made of quartz or glass, are used for scrying (divination), meditation, or energy focusing.
Second-Hand Considerations: Previous owners may leave energetic imprints, so purification is essential to reset the ball’s energy.
Step 2: Purifying the Crystal Ball
Clear the crystal ball of any lingering energies using one or more of these methods:
Smudging (10 minutes):
Light sage, palo santo, or incense.
Pass the crystal ball through the smoke for 1–2 minutes, visualizing negative energies dissipating.
Ensure good ventilation.
Moonlight Cleansing (Overnight):
Place the ball under a full moon’s light overnight.
Set it on a natural surface (e.g., cloth or wood) to absorb lunar energy.
Water Rinse (5 minutes, if safe):
If the ball is quartz, rinse it under lukewarm running water for 1–2 minutes.
Visualize impurities washing away.
Note: Avoid water for softer or porous materials like selenite or glass with coatings.
Sound Cleansing (5–10 minutes):
Use a singing bowl, bell, or tuning fork near the ball.
Let the sound vibrations clear stagnant energy.
Tips:
Trust your intuition to choose a method.
Combine methods (e.g., smudging + moonlight) for deeper cleansing.
Handle the ball gently to avoid scratches.
Step 3: Charging the Crystal Ball
After purification, charge the ball to align it with your energy:
Sunlight (1–2 hours):
Place in soft sunlight (avoid prolonged exposure to prevent fading).
Visualize the ball absorbing vibrant energy.
Intention Setting (5 minutes):
Hold the ball in both hands.
Close your eyes and state your intention (e.g., “I charge this crystal ball for clear, truthful visions”).
Focus on positive energy flowing into the ball.
Crystal Cluster (4–6 hours, optional):
Rest the ball on a cleansed quartz or amethyst cluster to amplify its energy.
Step 4: Preparing to Use the Crystal Ball
Create a Sacred Space:
Choose a quiet, dimly lit area.
Place the ball on a dark cloth or stand to reduce reflections.
Light a candle or incense to set the mood (optional).
Ground Yourself:
Sit comfortably and take deep breaths for 2–3 minutes.
Visualize roots extending from your body into the earth for stability.
Set an Intention:
Decide what you seek (e.g., insight, guidance, or meditation focus).
Silently or aloud, ask the ball to reveal clear answers.
Step 5: Using the Crystal Ball
Scrying:
Gaze softly into the ball, not directly at it, to relax your eyes.
Allow your mind to wander; images, colors, or sensations may appear.
Don’t force visions—let them emerge naturally (5–20 minutes).
Journal any impressions immediately after.
Meditation:
Hold or gaze at the ball to deepen focus.
Use it as a focal point to clear your mind or visualize goals.
Energy Work:
Place the ball on an altar or hold it during rituals to amplify intentions.
Step 6: Care and Maintenance
Storage: Keep in a soft cloth or pouch to prevent scratches.
Regular Cleansing: Purify monthly or after intense sessions.
Recharging: Charge under moonlight or with intention as needed.
Respect: Treat the ball as a sacred tool, avoiding casual handling by others.
Tips for Success
Practice patience; scrying skills develop over time.
Trust your intuition over rigid expectations.
If no visions appear, focus on feelings or subtle insights.
Avoid using when tired or emotionally unbalanced, as clarity may be affected.
Safety Notes
Verify the material (e.g., quartz, glass) to choose safe cleansing methods.
Handle with care to prevent drops or damage.
If you feel uneasy or drained, stop and cleanse the ball again.
This process should take 1–2 hours initially (excluding overnight methods) and can be adapted to your spiritual practice. Regular use and cleansing will strengthen your connection to the crystal ball.
And BEWARE sunlight thru the ball!! It will focus a burn spot opposite the sun!
Spot shouldn’t be playing in the Sun!
Confucius say “man who finds job at crystal ball factory will make a fortune!” Oooohhhhhhmmmmm!
