Ex-Im Follies

We have an Export-Import prices report to deal with.  But, as I’ve been screaming for several decades now, such reports are akin to ‘driving via the rear view mirror.’  Because the data reflects confusion and blithering parties (on all sides) of the trade mess.  Think about the “issue topology” of April and tell me if data from that period will shed any light on today-forward?  (Hint: no.)

Import prices rose 0.1 percent in April following a decrease of 0.4 percent in March and an advance of 0.2
percent in February. Prices for U.S. imports rose 0.1 percent from April 2024 to April 2025.

Prices for U.S. exports advanced 0.1 percent for the second consecutive month in April. Higher prices for
nonagricultural and agricultural exports each contributed to the monthly increase. U.S. export prices advanced 2.0 percent from April 2024 to April 2025.

Tariff tough-talk paying off?  Doubt it.

The trade mess isn’t going away.  It’s a kind of “halfway house” on the road to Globalism’s Bankruptcy because in reality (heard of it?) compound interest requires growth just to “break-even.”  So when you read stories like China-US 90-day tariff truce should be extended, Global Times sayst, let us ask if anyone cares?

See, it all comes down to Syn-Grow – synthetic growth – in economics terms.  If you have read my book, “the 100-year Toaster” I hint at the one possible outcome.  Make shittier goods so people will have to buy ever-more in order to maintain their lifestyles.  That will drive unit sales and this – which in turn – is a form of synthetic growth.

The tip-off as to how the “real world” works was evident in the (first, for now) Depression.  Detroit automakers invented the “annual model” and after that dreams of an auto that could last a million miles died a slow death until the Checker Motor Company went bankrupt.

The hell of the modern world, see, is that sure, annual models are wasteful and deplete resources and cause everyone to have to work harder and longer just to stay even.  But there’s “inventory turns” in turning out shitty products.  (“It is what it is…”)  Which is no way to run a railroad…but we’re all aboard that “train to the Future” from Back to the Future (II or III – I forget which).  Where the speeding train is trying to hit 88 MPH before getting to the railroad trestle-bridge that’s still under construction.

Well, except in the Movie version of Future, we hit 88 MPH and we “pop”.  The closest thing we have is rumors of stargates and Elon Musk selling “Build a back-up planet – how about Mars?”   Jury is out on that because as much as I respect Musk, my SuperGrok account blew up May 8th and no refund on the $240 of unusable annual subscription.  Which I mention only because it circles back to the “failing products is good for revenue” which to these old eyes seems endemic.

I don’t want to spoil all the fun – and the pseudo drama of (what passes for) news. and the
“constant growth of stocks” BUT the US Dollar of today buys only 3 percent of what it would deliver (in calories or chews) from 1913 with the Federal Reserve came along.

We thus live in a world where money goes down in value so it takes more of it.  The whole thing’s a swindle.  Prices haven’t gone UP, purchasing power has gone down.  Can you tell?  I was always the kid at the Space Needle in Seattle who was looking down as the elevator was coming down the Needle and enjoying that weird sense as we went through what looked like it was going to be a solid beam partway down….

Um…. So other than this little gem, gasoline’s national average price is down 1-10th of a penny and diesel is up a bit more than yesterday.  Which is nearly useful. But only if you plan to fill up.

Because we kinda keep an eye on the Huffpo which seems to, er, practice medicine with headlines like RFK Jr. Says He’s Exploring A Crackdown On This Perfectly Safe Medication. Did they just call an abortion pill perfectly SAFE?  I mean we know the Huffpo is liberal and all.  But..uh…the headline seems to overlook the “black box” FDA warning:

  1. Serious and Sometimes Fatal Infections or Bleeding:
    • Mifepristone can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections or excessive bleeding. This includes the risk of sepsis (a severe infection) following medical abortion.
    • Prolonged heavy bleeding may require surgical intervention, such as a dilation and curettage (D&C), to stop the bleeding or complete the abortion.
  2. Atypical Infections:
    • Some patients have experienced serious infections, including those caused by Clostridium sordellii, which may not present with typical symptoms like fever, making diagnosis challenging.
  3. Ectopic Pregnancy:
    • Mifepristone is contraindicated in patients with a confirmed or suspected ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy outside the uterus), as it is not effective for terminating such pregnancies. Ectopic pregnancies can be life-threatening if untreated.
  4. Incomplete Abortion:
    • The treatment may not always result in a complete abortion, which could require follow-up surgical procedures to remove remaining tissue.
  5. Importance of Follow-Up Care:
    • Patients must comply with follow-up visits to confirm the abortion is complete and to monitor for complications like infection or excessive bleeding.
  6. Contraindications:
    • The warning emphasizes that mifepristone should not be used in patients with certain conditions, such as:
      • Confirmed or suspected ectopic pregnancy.
      • Undiagnosed adnexal mass (abnormal growth in the ovaries or fallopian tubes).
      • Chronic adrenal failure.

Perfectly safe?  Not to our way of thinking, or 11 percent of users, but I’ve never been keen on reporters practicing medicine… At 76, I’m such and old journo that I can remember when news was fact-centered while opinions had their own page somewhere… Now the unvarnished news is in hiding and states have governors like Gruesome and Sideshow Bob…

Move over, Afrikaners.  I, Ures truly, am the new Disenfranchised American.

Because I refuse to surrender my digital autonomy to the Gods of Verification.  Thankfully, there are a few places, like banks – which are not (yet) holding your assets hostage.  But online?  Buddy, you better have a phone and you better get texts.

As you know, I am a leading advocate of A.I. – my site https://hiddenguild.dev  has been all over the uses (and risks) of the coming collaborative world of AI and humans.  So, I like to sign up for all of ’em –  to run comparisons, rank AIs for accuracy, depth of knowledge, Dada, yada…

So you can imagine how pissed I was when I ran into this:

See, I have a mobile phone for only 1-1/2 good reasons.  First, to make an emergency call (or while rat-killing in the grocery store parking lot waiting for the online order to be brought out. Never stop working, right?  The other reason (the 1/2 part) is to shoot video of assholes trying to run me off the road for only going 5-over. Which does happen from time to time.  Big city violence is spreading.  Thanks to phones.

Any AI will admit that:

A desktop wired to the web and kept updated is generally more secure than a mobile phone, assuming it’s well-maintained (firewall, antivirus, patches). It has fewer wireless attack surfaces and allows tighter control over software and network access.

This is the unfathomable bullshit of Modern Life; that these arrogant tech people we all have a phone, all to get texts,. and all respond to their whims and dreams of hyperconnectivity.

Well, no.

It’s all a con to  pay and pay and pay..,.(as the great man said earlier in the column) “See, it all comes down to Syn-Grow – synthetic growth – in economics terms.”  More programmers, faster chips, most texts, and coming so? Three-factor security!  (Blood-typing and DNA scans to log on will be along presently.)

By then?  We will be on 17G (which will be an LTR – long term release version because it will work for 17-days).  But meanwhile, the more bandwidth, the more damaging 5G and above will be to the human genome.  Only if you put it near your head as you might to…oh, you know…make a call or something…

Here’s the UFT (ugly freaking Truth) no one dares speak:

Now, I’ll admit to being an old pissed-off reprobate – cynical to a fault and not putting up well with Fools. So, if ya’ll want to have everything “on your phone” just remember Great Civilizations (before this go-round) all died before.  Tower of Babel was what?  A communications collapse.

That, brothers and sisters is the road we’re on. The not-yet-built bridge signs are whizzing by but no one has the balls to turn back, hit the brakes or jump off the train.

          Personally, I have lost two engineering friends to same-side brain tumors who were early adopters and heavy users of the first generation ‘brick’ cellphones. Anecdotal, I know, but…. the chances of that happening were well above nonzero for my personal liking and well being. I don’t keep my cellphone near my body, and I won’t have a 5G unit. I worked with microwaves a good part of my career, and I know the risks.

        • I also lost a boss to same side cell phone use resulting in a glioblastoma.

          I do not think those studies are valid. Just search this topic and you will get a LOT of other information about the dangers of using cell phones.

          I can feel the radiation/frequency/heat/wave come off of the cell phones, even now, onto the body, into the ear.

      • Back around 2011 or so, I had a Motorola flip phone – for occasional use only. When using it on long trips, I’d sometimes have a long(er) conversation, and I noticed that my head would get warm on that side. Mercifully, that thing bit the dust and I moved on to better mobile phones, though still for occasional use only. Between banks and the university, 2FA has become an unfortunate fact of life. Some battles are worth winning – that one probably isn’t.

      • Had a friend that died years ago with glioblastoma that spent a lot of time with a cell phone next to his head. Long painful death.

        Note: 5G system is not full coverage everywhere, so if you shut it off in the settings you wont lose much in phone performance. Your battery will also last longer when the phone is not constantly searching for a 5G network.

        Tires? Old subject here, but there are codes on the sidewall of all tires sold in U.S. that tell you the tire construction, longevity, traction, size and more. Lookup the codes key and make notes when comparison shopping.

  12. I wasn’t surprised that the market was going up to test the March 29 high [ on the S&P500]. I was surprised that it gaped up and blew right past it., and has continued to climb all week on approaching the ATH set in February. Now just 230 point below.
    The market always wants to go up., but I truthfully didn’t expect the market climb all week long. There is still that huge gap that needs to be filled.
    “Carnac The Magnificent” – my aggregate index – is not showing me anything but overbought., I have no real marker showing which way this pig is going to wallow. It is all news driven. Which can not be predicted. Fundamentals, valuations, P/E ration.., yada yada – are all being ignored in favor of “Trump Speech” & “Tariff Talk”.
    I had planned on going short over this weekend – but decided against it. So.., I am sitting on the side-lines…, watching-n-wondering-n-waiting.

      Biological weapons are the weapons of choice. Apparently, since they keep funding development and research for weapons gain of function, governments intend to trim off what they see as excess/useless masses of people. It is so plain to see that TPTB plan to eliminate a big percentage of those masses when the need is felt to use their last resort weapons and take their own chances of surviving. It is equally plain that they will do it with their damned lab grown germs and diseases. They are encouraged by the results of their slow acting Covid vaccine experiments. One or more of these asses will ultimately have some secret meeting and give themselves authority to dictate which groups have to go.
      We’re not unlike the idiots that build their cities on the slopes of “extinct/dormant volcanoes.” Go ahead and throw the dice, you might win a bit more time before these cocky fools pump themselves up enough to take a chance on their germs before the other fools beat them to it.

        • Germs (bacteria, virii) are great. They provide no clear path by which to trace their ancestry, and complete plausible deniability. If COVID was an actual test run, whomever is plotting Earth’s sterilization will have used it to show the shortcomings of “the plan.” If COVID wasn’t a test run but there is a sterilization plot, it will still have shown the shortcomings.

          In either case, those shortcomings will now have been fixed…

    LOL….tariffs often get sold as a way to protect domestic industries, but the reality is far more complex. While they might discourage imports and boost local production as The message, the costs are shoved on all products and always gets passed down to consumers, which disproportionately affects the working class in both countries.the laborer in another company is targetted by the loss of production and the consumer is targetted in the country importing products. economic incentives such as tax breaks for companies producing products using local labor and taxing companies that are outsourcing labor or using robots or Ai .when was the last time you called any customer service line and spoke with a human much less one locally. our security system as an example use to be monitored locally..now its monitored in another country then they have Ai that is answering questions.. Instead of penalizing everyday people through tariffs, I would argue that holding corporations that outsource labor and industry for higher profits to guarantee their seven figure incomes accountable—either through taxation or incentives to keep jobs local—I believe this would create a more balanced economy give the world a chance to re-industriaize. The challenge, of course, is that those same corporate entities often wield significant political influence, making policy changes difficult to enact in the end its all about the business model of stuffing big buck billies pockets. History is full of examples of governments using tariffs as both economic tools and political statements. Sadly its not the greedy that pay the price but the very laborer that’s trying to survive on the crumbs of the greedy.
    I sure hope this sounded halfway logical.. I think the only ones that will be hurt are the ones that they are trying to gain industry..hard to do and not affect big buck billy..the way I see it it looks like its an attempt to strengthen industry but at the consumer and laborers expense while keeping their hand under the table stroking big buck billies won’t stick to keep him and his seven digit number..

  15. It would seem plain that Ukraine lacks sufficient raw power to “conquer” Russia, while Russia does have enough strength to conquer — and hold — Ukraine.
    Ukraine simply cannot “win” in any real sense. So, it becomes a matter of who quits first — that entity becomes the loser. The loser’s economy, government and social structure are destroyed and occupied.

    Uncle Sam will always be able to beat Ukraine. U lacks the “reach” and power to knock us off.

    U.S. would have a very hard time decidedly beating Russia — and then occupying it.

    Sorry, Ukraine; you just ain’t got the Moxie it takes to truly triumph.

    It becomes a matter of letting them fight it out to a conclusion — and then deal with whoever is left standing.

        I collect clear quartz spheres and have a few rose quartz spheres, as well. Nice quartz crystals are noted for their straight and even hexagonal sides with a termination at one end, but sometimes a termination is found at each end. However, quartz spheres have a C axis that can be found in bright light. I enjoy locating these. The C axis on a clear and rose quartz sphere, providing the sphere is not too included, will exhibit a six rayed star. Look for one leg and follow it until it joins with the other two. The star appears to hover above the sphere, an optical illusion that is so very cool!
