CFNAI, Rally, BTC Tries 100, and the Turkey Lurkees

Chicago Fed first, then a rally. But Housing looms tomorrow.  Even so, with some possible Housing regret, it won’t last long because turkey is lurking this week.

We can also see the broad sweep of history, as we  have now lived through the entire transition from “National Call Your Broker Day” – which was what thrifty working class savers did back in the Fifties.  Is there a broker left, anywhere?

Has America made progress since then?

The cost of a Turkey Dinner was $6.13 in 1955.

With inflation, we pencil that out to $71.99 using the Minneapolis Fed inflation calculator. A.I. is massively low-balling with a guess at $43 and change – you really can’t trust A.I.

In Austin, down the road a piece from us, KXAN figures a dinner for 10 this year will run just under $59 dollars. Which is down from $64.05 back in 2022 in their work.  Which was based on a press release from the American Farm Bureau which can be found here: Cost of Thanksgiving Dinner Declines – Remains Higher Than Pre-Pandemic Levels.

Anecdotally, A.I. tells us elsewhere “In the 1950s, turkey prices varied widely, from as low as 37 cents per pound to around 59 cents per pound at stores like Piggly Wiggly. Turkey shoots were also a popular fundraising event in the 1950s, where participants would pay a fee to shoot a turkey with a rifle, pistol, or shotgun.”

We’re not too sure why the miles-wide variance.  Except that we can’t find any “national standard” for Thanksgiving meal price calculations.  Some reports use a “family of four” (or five), while others (like the Farm Bureau) assume you can find 10 people who will show up.

And think of the linguistic progress we have made.  Why, back in the fifties people said “Awe shoot!”  Kids use the expression freely. Shooting was OK. A child who utters the word today is likely to get a SWAT Team called on ’em. Yessir, real social progress.

Guns were OK for everyone, except the criminals.  A shoe which is totally on the other foot now.  Back then, gangs were few and far between.  In fact, remember Hell’s Angels was just a start-up until Hollister in ’56. Guy who used to work for me claimed to have been there, though I never saw his rockers.

BTW, most people don’t know that “Mom” Maurice Boucher was credited with the issue of “rockers” to real riders.  Another HAMC graduate I worked with ran a high-speed “delivery boat” before he was popped for a taxpayer funded vacation.  Yep, you meet some mighty interesting people when chasing down the news… not to mention Elaine’s half-sister is the mother of a past chapter president who did some vacation time.

Didn’t mean to get off on a tangent (well, too much) but it’s interesting that while language has changed, so have our social norms.  When I was coming up, few people I personally know had spent so much as a single night in the joint/jail/hoosgow/iron bar hotel. “According to FWD.us and Cornell University, 45% of American adults, or 113 million people, have had an immediate family member incarcerated for at least one night.”  Overall, 9 percent of men but only 1.1 percent of women, will spend one night or more “in the box” in a lifetime.  Which seems, oh, somehow discriminatory to me.

Meandering back to the point…and I’ll skip the discussion of committing crime to get a three hots and a cot retirement plan by committing crimes, for another morning.  Though I’m not sure if Jails serve Thanksgiving Dinner.  I mean, the whole premise of the occasion is what?  (Maybe “Got caught, not shot” works…dunno…”)

CFNAI

Speaking of shots (rim shot) let’s see what The Captain does to an economic press release at this hour:

“”Index Suggests Economic Growth Decreased in October

The Chicago Fed National Activity Index (CFNAI) decreased to –0.40 in October from –0.27 in September. Three of the four broad categories of indicators used to construct the index decreased from September, and all four categories made negative contributions in October. The index’s three-month moving average, CFNAI-MA3, decreased to –0.24 in October from –0.21 in September.

The CFNAI Diffusion Index, which is also a three-month moving average, decreased to –0.26 in October from –0.22 in September. Thirty of the 85 individual indicators made positive contributions to the CFNAI in October, while 55 made negative contributions. Thirty-five indicators improved from September to October, while 48 indicators deteriorated and two were unchanged. Of the indicators that improved, 16 made negative contributions.

The market is expected to rally today regardless.  Dow Futures were up 300 points early, and a close at records today would tend to push back The Crash to around January 19th 2025. Short-term, the first problem is closing higher and after that comes tomorrows data surprise package.

Which we reckon likely to be a buy the rumor, sell the news tomorrow when the Case Shiller Housing report lands.  Which was something Joe Biden assured us he would take care of.  And now you see it?  Got us right back on the main track talking about turkeys again.  (Gads, I should open a writing school.)

Crypto Lunacy

Now that a number of seers and prognosticators are seeing Three Days of Darkness” (3DD) in a month to three, and remembering I wrote the book Broken Web back in 2012, predicated on the digital world falling apart, you’ll have to forgive me if I am STILL skeptical of Bitcoin.

Still, no denying the $100 K level could be busted today. Just not yet as of press time.  Excuses needed?  Other than Popular Delusions?  Just read Bitcoin Price Today: Why BTC Crashed 4% Before $100K? for an update happy talk-around.

In Ure’s circle of correspondents, a great deal of focus is on a Medium series A Diesel Powered Civilization. Part 2: Coping with a difficult reality | by B. And so timely because my next Peoplenomics book – the one on Downscaling – will be offered Wednesday as we ponder the impossible economic behavioral dead-end we’ve driven into.  No way to turn around except by the few of us lemmings who know what happens just past the edge of a cliff…

And remember, if the electronics and the web don’t fail digital delusions, there’s always Human Factors: I accidentally threw away my boyfriend’s £569MILLION Bitcoin fortune. It wasn’t my fault, but I hope he finds it… because it will finally shut him up!  No, deary, I don’t think so…that’s losing $715 million USD if you’re snoozing.

Three War Monte

NORTH-WAR: If you had any doubts about the West trying to goad Russia into first use of nukes (to trim globalpop a bit and create a replacement for the gender industries), let your weary spirit rest: Russia says captured UK national fighting for Ukraine in Kursk.  And since WE (OK, your) Joe Biden authorized use of American long-range weapons inside Russia, that makes World War III (absent Congressional approval) still very much a “real thing.”

Meanwhile, our Liberal Northeast State-Controlled media continues to press for war.  The latest ploy? Kremlin accuses Biden administration of disrupting Trump’s attempts to end Ukraine war.  Can’t say they’d be wrong.  (Notice how everyone ignores the Obama coup against the legally elected government in Ukraine in 2014 like it never happened?  Historical revisionism is a big deal with the lying left.

SOUTH WAR:  US envoy threatens to withdraw from Israel-Lebanon talks.

Which would be fine, as we see it: We are totally inept blundering buffoons at running borders (Mexico) of keeping “bad actors” out (Venezuelan and MS-13 gangs) so why in God’s name anyone would listen to advice from US just boggles my wetware between the ears.  My, doesn’t this sound like good-faith peace talk positioning? Hezbollah’s 250+ Missile Barrage Shakes Israel’s Tel Aviv, Residents Panic.  To hell with ’em all.  America’s in infrastructure decline and we’re off warring in the Middle East (again, still, ad nauseum).

WEST WAR:  We have to credit the Miami Herald for having some very good international perspective over the years.  Going back to when I was flying over Cuba 5-days a week while living in the Cayman Islands. Very good stuff, indeed.  We see the tradition continuing in Alex Wong: What Trump’s New National Security Official Has Said About China | Miami Herald.  Which gets us to pondering “What would Black Friday be – without Chinese goods?”

Because when China goes for Taiwan, that’s one area where China has us by the economic Balzac, if you follow.  And the current military thinking on how we might react?  US troops may deploy to Japanese, Philippine islands if China invades Taiwan, report says. Which doesn’t make a whole-lot of sense if the fighting is in Taiwan.  Tokyo is 1,300 miles from Taipei, 723 miles from Manila… 400 miles from Okinawa to Taipei.

Which (simple me) is like putting troops in Seattle to fight a war in San Diego for the Tokyo measure, and putting troops in Portland to fight a war in the South Bay.  (Shakes his head…)

Misery Loves Newserly

The socialist NGOs ought to be worried: House of Representatives Approves Legislation Threatening Nonprofits’ Free Speech. Which doesn’t bother us in the least.  In fact, we’re not so sure that non-profits haven’t been a clever tool of the left to attack and wage law-fare on the middle American balance. If our tax bill could go down…has some appeal, for sure.  Of course, there are many not-for-profits that do good work. But, when they get “out of their lanes” (paying too much to execs and so forth) or when they law-fare against the American middle class, that’s a scam too far.

Another Political flim-flam sighted: Ranked Choice voting. Being promoted by?  What is Ranked Choice Voting & Arguments For and Against. Well, except it’s not in the Constitution, so why are tax breaks given to people trying to change what we don’t see as broken?   Yes, it’s a 501-(c)-3. And this matters very much because DC_Draino on X: “NEW – Alaska GOP has hired Harmeet Dhillon to recount and review the statewide election results for their Ranked Choice Voting Repeal proposition This fraudulent voting system was funded by Bill Gates a few years ago and it allowed Lisa Murkowski to be re-elected Senator even though she lost the GOP primary” / X.  Ah, Gates again, you’re thinking  Uh-huh.

We aren’t the only country where the Deep Staters are running the political processes: One million Brits demand new elections. Anyone vote for Britain to fight Ukraine’s war for it?

There goes “special” huh? REPORT: Trump To Remove Transgender Service Members On Day One – Armed Forces Press.

At the Ranch: Suffering in the Woods

Our consigliere pulled in about 7:45 last night, after a short 16-odd hour drive down from Ohio.  Bolillo rolls with rare roast beef, tomatos and a slice of onion plus a mug of chicken soup for a start.

Asian-style pork ribs tonight and maybe (if I can stop writing) Baily’s French Toast for breakfast.  Though that’s likely to set off a round of naps.

Couldn’t have gotten better weather: Only one day with winds too high for drone-lifting antenna work. No signs of rain, at all, though till next week. Elaine’s looking forward to Wednesday when, for whatever reason, we will be back to 80F temps.  After that? Winter shows up, though the coldest overnight low will still hang a degree above freezing.

Tomorrow is “root canal through gold crown” day.  Toothache on that side is gone, but after root canal work there’s usually a little pain. Got drugs?

But that’s how the holiday shapes up here – and it should be fun.

My eldest daughter, Denise (MSW) just turned 47 this weekend.  That’s an eye-0pener for you.  She’s trying to shop a reasonable way to get funding for a PhD – seems the loan and grant process keeps getting tougher and tougher. Yet here’s Slow Joe Biden trying to forgive Ukraine debts; money we figure could be better spent investing in America.

But guess besides the occasional word-loss, tone deaf is another skill Biden’s perfecting a little too quickly on the way out the door.

  1. You didn’t shoot Turkeys at a Turkey Shoot; you shot at standard paper targets and the best score won a turkey.

    • I enjoy a good turkey shoot. Won several turkeys over the years with rifle and handgun. What chaps me around here is the club that puts up sheets of paper with a 1/8″ dot in the middle and everybody has to use a shotgun. Strictly luck, no skill involved. Just whoever gets a pellet closest to the dot.

    • Yerp – we do things a little differently in Cincinnati..WKRP Turkey Drop 1978 -https://youtu.be/4SXI-eLMq1E?si=LFwYRvBlgQJYAeXa

Ohio – what more can I say?

      • Love that segment … it will be around for the next 50 years at every Thanksgiving!!

WKRP was a great show, the characters allegedly were based on the real goings on in Radio Stations back when there was a 5 station ownership limit so they used to locally owned and locally run (before the days of the HUGE station ownership groups like iHeart radio). With the advent of the large national ownership groups local DJ’s deciding ON THEIR OWN what music to play totally disappeared from the landscape, much to the detriment of creativity in the OTA radio spectrum.

Interesting tale about how WKRP got to be on the air.

They did a pilot which the network programming people HATED, thought it was too corny since the antics in the show would NEVER happen in real life. The show creators trying to save the show then decided to do a “movie screening” of the pilot in LA and invited the program directors, station owners, disc jockeys, and news directors from most of the radio stations in Southern California and also invited to Network programming people to watch their reaction.

The actual radio people went WILD during and after the screening and everybody came out of the screening talking to each other about all the crazy stuff that had happened at THEIR radio stations, many stories which were even wilder and crazier than what the Network people thought was crazy.

With that WKRP got picked up as a new TV Series … and the rest is history.

        • I’m here to testify… I started in local radio in the midwest in 1972. WKRP was a composite truth of all the fantastic, crazy, weird, and funny stuff that actually happened in radio during that era. I loved the show because it was a snippet of real life that I lived. Probably why I turned out as weird as I did.

  2. “Turkey shoots were also a popular fundraising event in the 1950s, where participants would pay a fee to shoot a turkey with a rifle, pistol, or shotgun.”

There is still a monthly Turkey Shoot in a burg just 5-6 miles south but … no birds, just targets. I have often considered joining the club but? I shoot in a nearby field.

Ponder the China product orgy in reverse. Instead of: what would we do without their manufacturing grunt we should consider co-dependence. Try a 1 month boycott.

Sexism in the above ^ unintentional. Girlcott too!

Glad your guest made it George. Enjoy. Soak achy gum tissue in a fine vodka. Cold compress on exterior. Alcohol mouthwash (suitable for swallowing).

  3. Ohio State used to offer free PhD in Psychology/Counseling in exchange for teaching undergrads. My daughter got her Masters there for free for taking courses in Arabic . Of course that was 20 years ago.

      • One of the top Science schools in the country, long a favorite of China to send their Phd science people to for advanced education (before Covid 5,000+ Chinese were attending yearly, most in graduate MA and PHD science and engineering programs). (very good engineering school too, though not up to the MIT level)

  4. No we will not properly Educate Ure or anybody else’s Children – for they are “our” human resources.

No better to spend billions on fighter jets that dont (fly f35) without immediately overheating – ya know the one that was supposed to be lower cost replacement for the f16.
Still better to spend bbbBILLIONS on navy ships that dont work/sail..take Ure pick – I refer to littoral comabt “disaster” ships here.

Material world versus SOUL experience – roughly 99 % are materialist with no idea of interacting with their Ka & Ba. If ratio reversed, we would see the budget tween .mil and Education reversed in the blink of an eye.
Alas most are monotheist – and will never experience direct 1 to 1 interaction the “NRG”s.. and that is a crying shame .

Solar project -9.96kWh per day generation, 12kWh storage -system runs as advertised. Load tested overnight running 3 mini splits all night, one large mini split several hrs in evening and lights & fans late into night on outside porches. Battery storage did last thru night before system started draw juice from grid tie.
Additional new battery bank (3kWh) is $6k, and additional set 12 panels is same price, or 6 addl panels $3400. Went with new/add’l battery storage. Next step/upgrade AFTER high season is over in MAR. will be addd’l panels..*&@%$! power comapny (BEL) – the worst!

    • How much you pay for grid juice there? My Big Island grid serves about 200k people, mostly oil fired. I pay $0.51/KWh for the grid juice. My ‘cookie cutter’ Sunrun lease system runs me about $0.26/KWh, depending on sunshine. With a 9.5KWh battery that it abuses and draws down too much, it replaces about half my needs.

      • $0.43.KWh – when it is available..reliability/availability is very big issue.
Boom times in development and construction past 4 years – electric utility, aware of Growth and even forecasting triple amount of generation would be needed 15 years ago..NOTHING has been added since Cahillo Dam was constructed..Nothing. While at same time lazy, ignorant and rude utility company is trying to lowball Solar credits for homeowners, while at same time paying Premium for Mexican juice!

As usual in all countries around the world – if you want something done, Gotta TO DO IT Ureself .

  5. I’ve never heard of simply “giving” nuclear weapons to anyone. It’s always my understanding that nuclear weapons were dangerous and should be kept under strict protocol and lock and key. Our government has always deterred “others” from making or acquiring such weaponry.

    But, here we are …

    https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/us-officials-discussed-giving-nuclear-weapons-ukraine

I guess, some people think giving nuclear weapons to a comedian who thinks he can play a piano with his penis, is ok. Giving such weaponry to a guy who is always needy for more money, bigger weapons and fails to use any common sense or diplomacy, seems a bit cursory of the vetting process.

If those weapons are given to Zelenskyy, who’s to say he wont go rogue? Who would be to blame if he (lost) some, somehow? – And, is this potentially another “Afghanistan” where we eventually pull out and leave it all behind? To who?

Zelenskyy believes, if he can’t win, escalate. Then blames his adversary for replying in kind. = Psychopathic gaslighting.

I can’t even believe these “discussions” are even taking place. But welcome to the Shit Show.

    • “Giving such weaponry to a guy who is always needy for more money, bigger weapons and fails to use any common sense or diplomacy, seems a bit cursory of the vetting process.”

Oh, you mean like the idiot in the White House who was handed the keys to the nuclear arsenal? Yep, he’s a pretty good example of all of the above.

      • OR…..
some morons in congress that knowledge that the administration is lacking in serious common sense or decency . doing so much dangerous and attempting to escalate the situation into a global catastrophic event. Still choose to remain neutral to what’s going on. even though they have mountains of evidence against their corrupt and dangerous activities.
Agencies sworn to protect the citizens corrupted and weapons zed against the taxpayers..
Seriously which is more dangerous.. the administration putting the globe on a path to world destruction…or those that can change the direction..that know exactly what’s going on yet refuses to even consider intervention..

    • Sundance in the Conservative Treehouse believes the cause is to push Putin into first use of nukes, to which the response by Bidens puppet masters, would be declaration of yet another “Emergency” suspension of the Inauguration, and the retention of power by the demoncrats.
I would not put it past them.
Also said that Trumps comms of all sorts are being carefully monitored so they can block any comms with Putin, and/or catch him in a Logan Act violation.

  6. (“The cost of a Turkey Dinner was $6.13 in 1955.”)

that got me curious.. we usually have thanksgiving.. and I buy.. for the kids grandkids great grandkids it usually runs about 500 this year the grand daughter was planning on hosting..but told us the other day that the cost was so expenses they aren’t going to host.. most of the kids are doing their own thing so its just the wife and myself.. I got two pies and the cost was thirty dollars with whipped cream.. the small turkey beast was 16 the gravy was two green bean casserole was another six all in all the total cost was over a hundred dollars and I didn’t get cranberry sauce..
I called the caterer that I normally buy our dinner from and for a family of four its a eighty dollars and that’s without pie or veggie tray.. a veggie tray is thirty dollars..
I found it cheaper to cater it than fix it..
lefsa we didn’t get that this year..
I get Chinese at the grocery store deli.. it runs on average twenty four dollars for two.. its twelve dollars for a turkey sub..

  7. I’m really curious: What happens when bitcoins are lost or otherwise irretrievable? Are they gone forever and diminish the 21 million possibilities? If so, they would add even more to the rarity aspect of these magic numbers!

    If not, what does happen?

I was, and still am interested in BTC, though I just have too many other things to split my time with. Money is becoming more and more difficult to spend with KYC and other intrusions on your life. We won’t even talk about CBDC which mercifully has yet to be a reality. They important things in life can’t be bought with any amount of money, but knowing the details of crypto is worthwhile and being able to mine it might be a better use of power than resistance heating.

    • (“I’m really curious: What happens when bitcoins are lost or otherwise irretrievable? Are they gone forever and diminish the 21 million possibilities?”)

that’s really a good question..kind of like pirates burying treasure.. if we were sent back to the stoneage.. it would just be a fireside legend..
look how many lost civilizations and stories of their existence… consider Atlantis.. is it real or just a made up story..
if the analysts are correct in their assessments then who would care if your the survivor
that’s why I feel the Amish would become of the lucky ones.they aren’t as addicted to modern technology and they still have the skills to make what gives them a quality of life.. consider the war powers act..under a national emergency everything is on the table..would an invisible coin have value.. I can’t see it but then who knows..

    • News reports say there is a guy seeking investors to help him fined an old cell phone he threw in the trash, with 500 Bitcoins in the memory.
They propose leasing the landfill from the county and sifting all the refuse to find the phone.
The syndicate has about got the money needed and the lease arranged to start operations

      • (“News reports say there is a guy seeking investors to help him fined an old cell phone he threw in the trash, with 500 Bitcoins in the memory.”)

obviously.. they have never seen how landfills work.. but I have seen the amazing..
        they tossed out our paychecks…
we asked what was it in.. a brown, black or white garbage bag.. oh my. and we only had one trailer full.. it laid out a 8 by 8 by 40 foot pile.. she came in a white jumpsuit.. took a look at the pile and said. there it is..found it right away. then some kids were cleaning out their parents house tossed out about a thousand books. my boss was always irritated that I loved to read..he grabbed one and said here read this..I hauled the lead up to the landfill came back ..the boss went to lunch.. every other page there was a fifty dollar bill.. I was camping at the bit for him to return.. I rushed up to the landfill those books had already been buried about fifty feet down..now that’s for a small community..in an area that has what fifty times the population of the wastelands..it’s gone…some archeologists a thousand years from now will dig it up and ask. what the hell is this..lol lol

    • After the Civil War all the money that rich Southerners invested into Slaves went POOF … and was gone forever.

In addition all the money that rich Southerners put into Confederate Bonds and Confederate Currency also went POOF … and while not everything was gone, they still had some nice looking paper products, it’s value for use for trade or savings also went POOF.

Bitcoin is an interesting “trading vehicle” … but many events can also cause it to suddenly go POOF too. For that reason be careful how much of your assets you want to put into one basket … or you to could end up like many of those formerly “Rich” Southerners did.

    • Note of caution for SoulRebel types – love of money is indeed a root of/to Evil.

The “Muse” does not like money of any sort be involved in “spiritual education/NRG work – if/when done for profits – No “Muse” .

The other side of this is “black magic operations for attaining Money. Ritual done correctly/right will produce the money, but it will not be any way shape or form how you want…more like the money will come from an insurance settlement for damages Ure body suffered in a car accident. Didnt want to shatter Ure legs in car accident / might not want to mess around with the dark side..js.

Whats in Ure dan tian ?

    • (Its about all the money home gamers [Focus].)

      NO……
desire and the push for more numbers. that’s all it is..each change on civilization has something that people would kill for.. in the 1500 and 1600’s it was beads. NY was bought with a few beads and a couple blankets..
now it’s numbers on a sheet of paper.
money is the illusion of value.. right now it controls everything. you need the number to get anything the world revolves around numbers..

phew..glad I got that pumpkin pie… best have a slice before they start flying.. thing is will Putin wait until they get them or hit during the holiday season hits.. how many million would be displaced if it happened during holiday exodus.. and the seven hundred million dollar question…why isn’t congress showing any concerns about what’s going on..
    Russia and China
I read that both have been busy sending people to shelters..
If that is true.. I had better eat some of that pie..
    (”
AAA expects this Thanksgiving holiday to be record-breaking, estimating over 80 million Americans will travel over the holiday, which is 2 million more than last year.

It is projected that 71.7 million people will be traveling on the roads, 1.3 million more than last year. About 5.84 million people are estimated to be traveling domestically through the air even though the price is higher for domestic travel this year compared to last.”)
so one out of seven would be caught in an unknown area..Along with a third of the population living in big cities… emp the country send us back to the stone age.. not good..

  9. re: Tiw’s Day Travels
    feat: no Turkey today

    Folks,
The senior journalist of religious matters for “Deutsche Welle” has written a news item concerning a book release tomorrow at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. The theater was constructed in 1850 and originally named after the deeply religious Prussian King and grandfather-in-law of Victoria Princess Royal, eldest daughter of Queen Victoria. Retired Chancellor Merkel will be onhand at the Theater with her new 736 page book, “Freedom: Memoirs 1954 – 2021”.

Meanwhile in Washington, modern-day District Wharf has developed over the former abodes of 20,000 slum dwellers. The website of the therein-constructed The Anthem shows that tickets remain available for a December Ugly Sweater show. However tickets to Chancellor Merkel’s Dec. 2nd book release “in conversation with President Obama” are sold out. “DW” quotes the Chancellor as wishing to start her own foundation but perhaps one not so large as that of President Obama. Judging by their lack of mention in pre-event promotion material, President Biden and President-Elect Trump should likely be considered otherwise engaged.

Let’s join DJ George for this evening’s Empire Travelogue Show brought to London by Braunschweig (F260) of the German Navy. Here we go with a piece from “Star Wars” –
    “The Imperial March”.

  10. AI has electronic Cranio-Rectal Inversion when it comes to Turkey Shoots.
The shooting is toward a target.
Everyone brings their turkey shooting shotgun, what ever that may be.
They are given a shell from a crate of shells, all the same, so all have the same load and therefore the same chance. Some guns may make a better pattern with the shell than others, but no one knew what it would be before they got there.
The pattern would be a large crosshair in a circle, 30″ like used to pattern a shotgun (see how evenly the load of shot is spread around the circle).
The person who had a pellet of the 500-600 in the shell closest to touch the center of the X wins the Turkey (Usually a Frozen Butterball or other reputable brand.)
    Now for the real story:
I was in the shop of my gunsmith at the time, who has since passed. He had a contraption that he showed me that consisted of a Winchester Model 70 bolt action with the magazined port and feed rails expertly enlarged to fit what looked like it would be a 12 ga shell. It has fitted a 36″ tube of fine stainless steel, reamed and honed to perfection, ending in a super-full choke constriction. It was only half complete, and the smith was hurrying to finish be the fall hunting and turkey shoot season.
Wow said I, how much has that guy got in this?
At that point the smith said $12,000, and it would probably be double that when finished in fine French Walnut.
Says I, that is a lot of investment, to be able to blast the center of the X out and win a (then)$10-15 turkey.
Al, he said, you know its not the turkey these guys compete for, but all the long green on the side that is out there watching the competition.
So if AI hasn’t ever been to a good ol’ boy Southern Turkey shoot, it can’t begin to know what the purpose and the prize consist of.
My dream is to take a old $100 pawn shop top break single barrel, and by careful lengthening of the chamber, extension of the throat, honing the barrel, reaming and threading the barrel for a screw-in super full turkey choke, then Silver Soldering on a set of rifle style sights to allow fine adjustment of the sighting, bring in a sleeper that gives all those rich farmers with too much money in their pocket, a ( as Gomer would say)
    “Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!”

    • Yeah – me thinks roll tide (rebel) couldnt hit the broad side of a barn, from the inside, let alone the CFP’s, like I cant even see em in standings . guess thats what happens when the Tide” rolls out..gets kinda smelly. : D

We are…Penn State !- and be some of best Turkey hunters in the nation.

      ..Gobbler Guillotines – https://www.3riversarchery.com/vip-gobbler-guillotine-4-blade-broadhead.html

Unfortunately BCN lives in a hunting district that forbids Turkey hunting, which prolly explains why my pickemup truck is constantly assaulted by local cock bird and his curious flock of hoochie mamma burds.

      • Oh My I hope I don’t have to take that kind of abuse every 20 or so years. So we don’t win a National Championship this year. We have 18 already.
How may do Fudgepacker U have so far?

  11. “When I was coming up, few people I personally know had spent so much as a single night in the joint/jail/hoosgow/iron bar hotel. ”

Heck, the preacher who officiated our wedding took a bad turn and robbed a bank with some of his pals. Did hard time for that. Are we still married?

  12. “Though I’m not sure if Jails serve Thanksgiving Dinner.”

I can’t speak for all jails/facilities, but our local jail does a nice dinner for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We used to have to be more careful how many drunks we arrested around holidays, because they’d try to get arrested to get a nice dinner.

    • I send a few bucks to a young lady that was put in prison because she was to afraid to give testimony against the gang that was human trafficking her.. like the crap that Epstien or those entertainers did.. she was afraid for her life..pecause she was a victim to afraid that she would be disposed of they threw her away.. anyway yes they get a Holliday meal..the good thing is she’s getting out in a year..the bad thing is she has been trafficked since she was a child..
I fear for her being able to get a job or a career.. most of her life she was a victim.. can she find a place to move forward.. she’ll be what early thirties when she gets out.. forced as a mere child to do things afraid for her life.. she escaped once..they found her and beat her into submission..their cash cow.. they escaped by doing the same thing the sister inlaw did to the presidents sons Saturday night special..threw it away in a trash can then run for their lives…that took nerve and moved all the way across the usa..
