Quite the issue in today’s ChartPack.  Seems with a world on the verge of nuclear war, and the wrap up of the Russian elections this weekend, the odds of that peaceful “way forward” have just hit the skids.

Toss in the confusing Biden administration handling of Gaza, not to mention the pending Chinese move on Taiwan, and the world is likely to become a very “scarcity plagued place.”

Our focus today is on the most important question in economics. Which – as luck would have it – no one is bothering to ask. Yet, around here it’s the only question on the table..

And that is?

When certain forms of arcane finance are practiced – under the general heading “technical analysis” – should an adjustment be made in our long-term view of things based on the hard reality of long-term inflationary impacts on waveforms?

Ah, but we also have a few headlines to consider in all this, so best we jump right to it…

        • That is actually a great idea. I did hydroponic carrots a couple years ago. I took paper straws. cut them into one inch lengths..soil plug in the end and a seed plug the other end.

        • Yes..I was in a rush this morning and seen the bed nation video of fanni and thought it was quite hilarious but expected. I never expected a y thing to come from any of this at all. . So i dropped it in and went to make breakfast for the guys. I need to be more vigilant on posting the content of the video.

    Should _X_ be adjusted accounting for inflation? Yes. Money (or any mode of exchange you prefer) is only worth what it will buy.

    Borkers, err brokers, manage perception with nutty tomes like “it’s not a loss if you don’t sell but … isn’t that true of gains then too? Yep.

    Any sale that nets less than the inflation adjusted basis (what it will buy) should be classified as a STCL or LTCL. But … I am not in charge, hey?

    A top is in or will be in eventually. You’ll know it when you see it. Or, maybe inflation adjusted, it’s already in? We shall watch this.

    Forecast: cold enough for a fire then next couple days.
    Then warmer (eventually, we hope).

    A lot of moving parts in 4D but earlier in the year India’s Akasa Air ordered 150 Boeing 737 Max aircraft and this could mean air travel is moving away from Eurocentric countries OR…. a hostile takeover of Boeing by Indian interests is on the horizon.

    A sidebar is we need an accountant to clarify and define a transaction. One thought of a transaction might be order/debit/credit/delivery/acceptance.

    The Boeing process of order fulfillment needs to be defined too because Boeing has to buy raw materials and components to fulfill an order.

    All that to say is how much does it cost to order and pay for 150 planes Vs Indian interests sabotaging Boeing, buying the company on the cheap in BK court then manufacturing the planes comparatively as a domestic company?

    A strategically canceled order would add to the devastation of Boeing even if any deposits are escrow’ed until the courts decide if Akasa Air must pay for the order before delivery and before Boeing is parted in BK court.

    If Indian interests do become the acquirer they should get the escrow’ed deposits for their canceled orders so there’s not a lot of cost/risk to India.

      Thanks for prompting me to peruse the most recent report of 2022 posted on Boeing’s website after being greeted with a spelling error on their homepage. Let’s get it out of the way first: Boeing pension plans are underfunded by $7+ billion according to GAAP but fully funded according to ERISA.

      I don’t share your fear that Boeing hq is flying away from the USA anytime soon since they have many military projects. Although how can a company lose 15% for every dollar earned on Uncle Sam work? Wow.

      As for the venerable B737, has anyone else flying noticed that Boeing narrowbody cabins are kind of narrower than their Airbus equivalents? A casual web comparison will suggest that the 737 cabin is a 707 cabin width in disguise complete with 1960’s non-containerized baggage handling? Dare anyone suggest that the ‘jig’ is up? One travel experience can be “coffee, tea, juice” as the trolley rolls past. While another can be “watch your knees, watch your elbows”. Should this not tickle your funny bone aisle try not to make further mention of the matter.

      Can we consider page 54 “program development” for a moment. Projected development for Boeing narrowbodies reads as running out after 2024 with the 737-10, and that of widebodies is given as 2027 for the 777-X. Am I missing something? Is there anything new in the r&d pipeline for future civilian jet production past 2027? This is not investment advice.

      • I have flown both the B737 and the Airbus… you are right, the Airbus is wider. Boeing panicked when Airbus sales caught on, because there was no new narrow body plane in the pipeline for Boeing… only the 2 wide body’s, the B777 and the B787.

        Boeing’s biggest customer for the B737 is Southwest. They want their pilots to fly any derivatives of the B737 at anytime. Boeing wanted a newly designed 737 that that was wider, taller and longer. But the FAA said any new derivative that used these design criteria would be considered a new type, and would not be allowed to be flown by a pilot with a B737 type rating. So Southwest said NO!

        Then Boeing started using aerodynamic trickery to shoehorn new engine/electronics into that old fuselage backed up with gimmicks in the flight control systems. The rest is history.

        The military dictates the government contractor side of Boeing, and Southwest directly dictated the narrow body commercial side, and we all suffer the consequences. Because of government contracts, Boeing won’t disappear.

        Old Europe is about all that’s left … umm, the kind people there carry their hatred for their next door neighbor for hundreds of years, not sure if they will accept a person from thousands of miles away when they HATE the person from 50 miles away because of something that happened 300 years ago (and that doesn’t count all the “NEW” Europeans who aren’t European at all but from Black Africa or the Middle East and seem to HATE the natives of the country they moved to).

        Here or Canada looks like the best of my options … sheesh, that is where I am already!!

        as far as railroads being a losing business model.. there’s several stories of deep earth railways being build from one dumb to another.. sure trains above ground may have a lower sales and profit margins …and in a shtf scenario the tracks are still there sort of.. the railway built this country opened it up. in the next rebuilding of the country it may be the greatest achievements of the country.

The latter offered a more detailed image of the grow-op along with a completely different street address of the crime scene which may translate to drug slang terms.

      The two Ukraine sites published an image of the individual now passed on which along with the Thai/Ukraine public release of the victim name would appear to coincide with the detail found on the public website of an Armenian-Ukrainian luxury tower development company in Kiev. According to Wiki and similar the family was judged 58th wealthiest in Ukraine until a fallout sometime after the current national government came to power.

      • I read late Sunday night that the Imperial Oil pipeline to Winnipeg has been shut down. Repairs are estimated to require three months. I think its the main supplier to the Shell refinery here supplying the city with gasoline, diesel and jet fuel.

        I topped off my car fuel tank just now to avoid the initial panic rush if there is one. I was the only one there at the gas station. The price had not gone up.

    In order to get the clearest picture of debt inflation shouldn’t we back-out debt deflation lost to BK?

    The island example might be 10% more money is introduced into the island’s economy so the general price level on the island can rise 10% (inflate). But during the inflation process one of the islanders indicates 50% of their stored money was eaten by a croc and the croc swam out to sea. Everyone agrees, yes a croc ate the money and took off. The money is gone forever.

    The island’s general price level will rise 10% to meet the amount of new money but the general price level also has to fall equal to the amount lost to the croc. The money has been taken out of circulation.

    Is there a place where we can see how much debt was lost in BK court?

    • When NIXON took the US off the gold standard I was upset (but it had to be done, because of US consumers !!). I don’t recall anyone else being upset over that action. That’s why I say choices WE made.

  6. I did not hold over the weekend. Though a couple of my indicators have slowly turned down over the past week, I am not convinced on which way the market will move after this weekend.

    As you know I have lately questioned the reliability and viability of all market indicators., that have been so reliable in the past. Especially any wave-form predictive models.
    Something seems really ‘off’ of late.
    Dancing on my T.I. Scientific and I can find nothing to support my gut-feeling. It all appears as it should. [ though a couple are stretching the percentages to the limits.]

    • Yeah – that’s why in the CP this morning I focus on the 19.74 pct hike in National Debt (it’s own kind of inflationary pressure) vs. the conventional economystical apprach. As always, I think everyone bbut Ure is wrong, but we will see.

    Take a few days and build a chart.., and Aggregate Index [ using the top four, or five market indexes] Now – using a monthly scale going back to say.., 1950.., apply the Elliott Wave Theory to this new chart. Ignore any historical points along this charts time-line.
    Elliott Wave does not “know” anything. It doesn’t know a war broke out.., a recession appeared., the dollar was decoupled from gold.., the national debt literally blew-up.., It knows none of this. it doesn’t know how high the market is going ., and it doesn’t care either. It really doesn’t give a damn what you think.

    It’s a math model., that does one thing. And if applied and interrupted correctly – it does that ‘one thing’ rather well. Using the 20/20 vision of ‘hindsight’.., it has never been wrong.

    Using it as a forward looking indicator.., well, that’s where the science slips a little and the magic edges it’s way in. How we read what it is saying to us is where we falter.., it doesn’t falter., we do. Math doesn’t lie – we lie about the math.

    So., hot-shot. What is Elliott telling us right now ?
    Two things. [ There’s that pesky interrupting again.]
    1 – That my current Wave count – since the pandemic low – is wrong. I checked four other website and they are all near exactly where I am – in the wave placement / count. That doesn’t mean I am right – but it does lower the odds down to single digits. I’ll stick with what I have.., for now.
    2 – That the current wave up is over-extended. Way over extended. I found three other examples where the wave extended “beyond-the-norm”. [ Two up and one down.] This not a one time ‘thing’. But it is higher then previous iterations. [ Ure’s inflation math ? Very possible.]

    So.., the count is correct and we are over-extended to the up-side.
    Meaning?
    This pig of a market has to correct to the downside and rather soon. By 8 to 10 %. Bounce up [ how far? ] – then a ‘major’ drop.
    What causes the major drop and how far down – “that” is the stuff of nightmares.

      I was quizzing my A.I. pal, link below about the American Revolution and how the world would be if the effort never took place/failed The A.I. pal offers ‘ask follow-up’ so can be quizzed into expanding answers.

      A.I. indicated North America would probably be three countries Vs one and that makes sense but in later questions indicated Britain would still have won WW1.

      I don’t know why A.I. would indicate WW1 would still take place if the Revolutionary War never took place/failed. Were the conditions that made WW1 inevitably setup before the Revolutionary War or is A.I. using hindsight as a programmer would?

      • Has anyone looked at the previous eclipse path from 2017 and noticed that the Chinese “weather” balloon (that wasn’t “noticed” until it was over Montana) followed closely the path of the eclipse once it came by the New Madrid Fault line and exited the country almost at the exact eclipse path. Just a coincidence I would guess but if any balloons are noticed at the time of this next eclipse…

    • In a conversation with our sheriff recently, he said he’s been told to prepare for as many as 200,000 eclipse tourists to show up in our county of 30,000 population. Not sure where we’d put that many visitors with 4 motels and 4 campgrounds in the county. But we darn sure couldn’t feed that many nor provide places for them to poop afterwards.

I live in a small pop county too, and we’re expected to be overrun by the horde, as well. a few months ago, I wanted to spend time at the event in epicenter, Vincennes, IN, but have changed my mind to stay home. A 3 minute eclipse is just as cool as a 4 minute one. As for Broken Bow, I had no idea that was a thing. I could understand if this was about the New Madrid, as there is a lot of tittering over that. Tbh, that fault line is overdue for action, with or without the misconceived presumption that an eclipse will set off a massive earthquake.

        • There’s a really nice Indiana State Recreation Area about 50 miles downstream from Evansville, which few seem to know about. It should be really close to the “max totality” line. (I bought a trailer from there, about 10 years ago. Never realized a good chunk of Indiana existed, south and west of E’ville, until then…)

          I spent a couple days last week in the Anderson/Muncie (Selma/Winchester) area. The locals tell me hotel rentals normally run from $57-$93, but are $750 to nearly $1100 a night during eclipse time. I didn’t think to ask if the hostelries were requiring a minimum 3-day stay.

          Utter insanity…

        Agreed If I never see Oklahoma again it will be to soon.. but the ranchers in the SE or SW section of OK are really nice hard working regular folds.. it is a thousand percent different from the city Now my guess is that is kind of how it is in all major cities not just oklahoma… We took the grandson to his parents in Oklahoma city years ago.. I was amazed by the sheer laziness. Told my banker they should open a branch there even the banking industry is sad at best.. they were the laziest group of do nothings I had ever seen in my life.. lazier than the workers in Washington DC which I thought they were the laziest.. and it wasn’t just in one place it was all over.. everyone drove and expensive car had expensive clothes on.. but shoved their trash out of the window rather than carrying it to the garbage dumpster..
        I worked a week trying to get an apartment maintenance men to change a light bulb.. I failed..not going to happen there a year later I was told the same light bulb was still burned out..     I walked past the TV just in time to hear the out-of-context ‘Trump Clip” where he says: “If I’m not elected there’s gonna be a bloodbath…” The NEXT four words that were deleted are: “…in the auto industry”. He was talking about Biden sending auto workers jobs overseas.

    The network TV announcer next launched into a tirade about ‘political violence’ and how bad it was. The INFERENCE was that Trump was talking about ‘political violence’, which was a blatant LIE. The damn MSM ought to be brought up on charges of ‘Fomenting Insurrection’ themselves, as that is EXACTLY what they are doing and blaming Trump for it.
