A Thanksgiving Scotch Bet, Midnite Woo-Woo

Lawyers – especially tax attorneys, and super-especially ones with a CPA, do not enter into wagers about the market lightly.  Yet, we found ourselves oddly at issue with just such a consigliere over the weekend.

“I expect the market will go up to the Labor Day weekend. And because the “turn date” isn’t till the first, or so, we could even hit a new record high on that Tuesday after the holiday.”

“I don’t know,” began my rambling discussion.  “My short-term trading indicators told me there was a better-than-even chance of a lower market Monday…but if you if really believe in this outlook, how about we put the Bottle of Thanksgiving Scotch on it?”

Well, he bit.  However, with all his numerical training, I’m sure he’s already penciled out that one fifth will be good for at least two Thanksgiving’s worth. Neither one of us being particularly “big drinkers.”

In the cold clear light of dawn (and futures pricing) it looks like “free Scotch” is just around the corner.  Let’s go through the weekend’s “big news” and you’ll see why I stepped up to the wager.

Who Needs a Convention?

Dems are putting the Con in convention.

While the democrat convention begins turning into a shitshow in gang land (Chicago), we are reading stories like Protesters will converge on Chicago. City leaders say they’re prepared. Makes us wonder how it’s going to play when all those radicals find out the Party Insiders were, do, and will continue pulling the strings on everything. (Did they miss the Clintonistas?)

Except for the Big Lies (the Democrat party is not democratic) and defenders of the (liberal’s) faith are pumping out pre-emptive stories like Kamala Harris ‘Drinking Problem’ Rumors Are Being Spread by Republicans. We are reminded that booze didn’t seem to impede the in-office performance of, oh, Winston Churchill, for example.  Speaking of which – this dandy story about Churchill recounted on the Field Ethos site is a favorite:

Notwithstanding, we were appalled when the Kamalasariat announced what’s his name for VP – which is a damn disappointment since RFK, Jr. would have been a better pick, in our view.

(We spent a good half-hour Sunday at “wine time” trying to figure whether to vote for marginal competence and sexual proclivities or vote for sexual proclivities and marginal competence.  We could come to no obvious c0nclusion…unless Willie Brown was to endorse Trump, of something.

Eventually we figured out that “None of the Above” should be on every ballot every election. Because 51 percent is not a mandate. Dr. Ben Carson and RFK Jr, at least have the brains going for them.)

I did mention this was a great 10-day stretch to blow off some vacation time, right? The political activities this week just underscore the democrat’s addiction to the “freedom illusion” and will offer uncountable examples of “Can’t walk their own talk.”  But, y’all watch for yourself. We have lives to lead…

My ears woke up and tuned around.  There was an odd – irregularly spaced -clicking and whirring noise. Sounds like something was on for half a second – but then it stopped for a minute or two.

Then – out of the blue – the sound can again, and it sounded like a….vacuum cleaner!

The mind is reeling. The Glock 19 was automatically in hand.  As I listened to the silence.  “Could some illegal or prison escapee have broken into the house to…um…VACUUUM FOR US???”  Yeah…that’d be nuts, but who knows.

Then it happened again.

Whir……………..

“Alexa turn on sky.”  Elaine’s command brought light to the central part o the house.

In a flash, I was (buck naked) sneaking up on a rechargeable vacuum cleaner – one of those Dust Buster thinks, over at its charger.

It simply laid there, happily whirring is ass off.  Not the least bit worried about 220 pounds of armed George. I slid the “spring-back” switch more completely to the “off” position. It didn’t make a peep after that.

I checked the doors, looked at the night vision surveillance cams around the property. A few feral cats were all that was seen.

We went back to sleep. But dangling there is the problem: How did the vacuum turn itself on at 11:53 PM? Luck?

The Nikkei was down 1.77 percent overnight. Maybe some of this odd luck will carry over into my short position today.

  9. My math model shows that the S&P500 hit it high for the year on July 16th. I haven’t run the numbers through the T.I. Scientific for any of the other indexes., but when I did a “quick look” nearly all of the indexes hit a yearly high around the same date.
    S&P500 on July 16th
    DJIA on July 17th
    NASDAQ on July 10th
    The much-maligned Russell 2000 on July 16th
    “Carnac The Magnificent” on July 16th

    and even the Nikkei [ Japan ] on July 10th
    That same ‘quick look’ will show that they are all within reach, as of this early morning, of hitting a new high. [S&P500 is 91 points from a new high.] Wouldn’t take much – one good afternoon of exuberance and they could all be within striking distance of a new yearly high.
    My math model has been wrong on occasion., like any “indicator”, however, so far, this whole year it hasn’t missed., and has supported my trades pretty darn well.
    Labor Day Weekend is 9 trading days away.

    4 Tablespoons Citric Acid
    2 tsp Baking Soda (Level not Heaping)
    1/2 cup Butter ( coconut oil alternative)
    2 -4 tsp Cheese Powder ( or cheese dye )
    2/3 cup Whole Milk ( I like cream )

    warm the milk to about a hundred degrees.. put the citric acid in let it cuddle as you stir it..
    once its curddled separate the curds from the whey..let it drain. at this point you can keep the cheese curds as a cheese ..
    or you can use it. now heat up the cheese whey put in the milk or cream and the cheese powder or the cheese food coloring.. adding in the butter and if your planning on using the curds This is where you drop in the cheese powder and break up the curds mixing them into the hot whey .. Once its dissolved back into the whey add the baking soda..keep stirring this will foam up Once the foam starts to simmer back down make sure your forms are Ready and lined pour your cheese spread in them ..
    now the coconut oil.. if what your wish is to have fresh cheese and you keep the cheese ball..then add the coconut oil instead of the curds.. you will have to add a little more cheese powder for flavoring along with salt etc.. but that’s a good american cheese alternative. born out of the depression.. only a few could get cheese and with rationing of food and oil the majority of the resources were sent to the military a way to stretch it and make it available cheaply was needed.. since whey was the waste byproduct a way to use it was needed.
    now if you aren’t interested in making American cheese blocks like valvetta.. then you can take that whey and bring it up to 180 degrees you will see it foaming.. then dump in it a quarter cup of vinegar white distilled..stirring it you will see the curds left from your cheese making rise.. ladle them out into a cheese cloth or cheese straner.. that’s ricotta for your lasagna ..
    The other thing is you can take this ricotta cheese and mixing it add a little cream to it with a little salt for a delicious cream cheese alternative..for a sweet spread take your cup of cream add 1/2 to 3/4 cup of powdered sugar or honey and some vanilla .. and get that combined add the ricotta cheese to it some strawberries crushed or some jam and you have a sweet cheese spread..refrigerate it for an hour or so to allow the flavors to mingle .. .make some bagels and yum. the left over water is great for plants

  26. Sandwich slice fast cheese..
    1 quart whole milk
    1 cup of cream ( not necessary)
    1 cup of flour or corn starch
    1 tsp. salt
    spices you chose its your taste buds.. I love Italian spaghetti spice..
    1 tsp onion powder
    3 cloves of garlic
    1/2 cup chopped up onion
    1 cup of grated cheese
    mix the flour with the starch or flour set aside..
    warm up the milk add the grated cheese mix until its totally melted in add your spices take a taste make sure its to your liking.. then add the cream flour or starch mixture.. let it thicken… when it gets nice and thick pot it scrape it into your form ..refrigerate.. after a couple of hours you can remove it and slice it for sandwiches.. variations are sun dried tomatoes and ground up pepperoni or sausage be creative..your the one that’s going to eat it..

    2 qts water ( or meat juice stock)
    1/2 cup of barley or (dried beans or whatever you scraped off the ground at the elevator) beat the grapes up and cleaned grain in a pan to get it cracked..if your using barley or beans then soak the cook them in a sow cooker for several hours until they are tender..
    3 or four billion cubes if using water..
    or a couple of ketchup packets as flavoring..
    spices or seasoning to your liking..
    crackers or dried croutons ..
    through the years I have seen a lot of guys coming into a restaurant to make ketchup packet soup..
    brought back memories of gathering grain off of the ground..
    you never know when that time will come around again..
    stone soup made simple ..
    I’m sure there’s a few living in cardboard boxes in cali..
    of course whatever you can add to it will benefit and flavor the soup..
    had a couple kids over playing at my daughters..they are poor down a few blocks..the daughter of course asked them to stay for supper.. one of the kids askedme..can I pick a tomato..absolutely take as many as you want..she said we never get anything like that at our house..

    3 pounds of beets, the fresher, the better
    2.5 pounds of white sugar ( 4 lb bag is good)
    3 oranges, zested and juiced
    10 raisins
    10 dried cherries
    15 whole peppercorns
    1 cup of cooled black tea
    5 gallons of water..
    yeast..
    ( fresh yeast or packet you choose)

    Milk .. in Middle Easter countries the soured and circles milk would be made into paneer cheese in the early American days spoiled milk would be boiled then the milk solids paddled out.. this has had many names like farmers cheese ,paneer cheese etc. once you ladle the solids after boiling them then you drain the whey off.. put it in a bowl or a blender.. add a little salt and mix adding a tbsp of sweet cream to it till it gets to the consistency you like.
    to make cottage cheese from aged milk.. before it circles heat it up till the milk is around a hundred to a hundred and ten..add a quarter cup of vinegar let it stay warm while you stir it.. as it circles then turn the heat up till 160 ish pour the when off then salt it and add sweet cream.. farmers cottage cheese..
