Yes , there’s a drought. Yes, it’s stupid to keep building house in Phoenix. But it’s stupid to farm nut trees in the desert, but they allow it. They used to grow cotton in the califukya central valley, one of the most water uses in farming, one of the reasons there is a selinium problem down there. But people have live here for centuries.
I just did a 500 mile road trip from the Sacramento Valley through the Central Valley and back to visit friends, saw some cotton growing, it looked like Pima, different color flowers and longer maturing, than the Acala upland cotton my dad used to grow on his farm just north of the Tulare lake bottom, saw lots of almond orchards too…

You are right, Sensei- it is too late. There are outposts on the hills trying to see what is coming, but they can not see over the horizon. And more to point – what if they could., to what end? Very few would believe it and even fewer would try to prepare for it.
There are some scenarios that can be foreseen and prepared for., however – preparing for a nuclear holocaust is a fool’s errand. Humans can not survive such devastation.

Humans can, and will. However, survival will be by random chance — no amount of preps will sustain a colony or even a village, therefore I’ve never prepped for, and I advise others to not piss their money away trying to prep for, a widespread nuclear event. It’s like Yellowstone: The folks in Maine will only have 6-8 inches of dust to dig through, but they’ll have to figure out how to grow their potatoes and blueberries for 40 years, with no electrical power and no sun, or their death will merely be more drawn out than ours…

Phew the two biggies..Title and Kondratieff……Civilizations preserve or recover older materials when the present becomes too chaotic.. take my learning modules.. each chaotic event that stopped me in my tracks where I had to say what now..were they too contaminated that they should have stopped me in my tracks to just give up…instead I decided learn from it..title brings that out..we learn from the past and in events beyond our control we fall back on what we learned in the past…Now Kondratieff’s long wave cycles hint at simikar patterns….when a society enters the turbulent, declining phase of a cycle, it reaches backward for cleaner baselines — older resources, older texts, older technologies, older cultural signals. It’s not simple nostalgia…or pointing out the pains of the past instead it’s a structural response to the events infolding. When the present loses coherence, the past becomes the only stable reference point we can reflect upon…..

But if over extension and exhaustion stories being told are real, then it raises terrifying questions about what options the worlds leaders might consider…. Nuclear weapons aren’t just another tool…they’re a civilizational threshold…. My worry isn’t about one more Nagasaki—it’s about whether we remember that some lines, once crossed, can’t be uncrossed…. will morals and ethics survive and stop this path the world is on..

hmm now for something else that speaks volumes.. lol lol slow roasted beef luncheon meat.. in your meat press.
2 lbs ground beef
1/2 lb ground pork (optional but improves texture)( definitely not needed)
1 jar savory beef gravy (10–12 oz)
1 tbsp liquid smoke (hickory or mesquite)( or once formed and taken out cold smoke it..)
1 tbsp Worcestershire
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp brown sugar ( yumm )
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cure meat 1 (optional but gives deli firmness & color)
1/2 cup ice water
1/2 cup cornstarch or potato starch (binder or powdered milk..)
You want a sticky, emulsified meat paste — this is what makes it slice like store bought luncheon meat…..
Add beef
Add all seasonings , liquid smoke , Worcestershire , soy.
Add beef gravy.
Add cure (optional).
Add cornstarch.
Add ice water slowly while mixing.
Mix in your Ninja food processor until the meat becomes sticky and paste like — 3–5 minutes….
Pack Into Your Luncheon Meat Press
Line with parchment if needed….this is a pretty important step..two piece a the width of the form ..
Pack tightly to remove air pockets with your meat tamper .
Press the lid down firmly….
There are two ways to cook this..oven method..Bake at 300 F for 90 minutes, or until internal temp hits 155 – 160 F.

Place the press in a pot of water….
Heat to 170 – 180 F
Cook 2 hours or until internal temperature reaches 165 f
Keep water below boiling
This gives the smoothest deli texture.
now cool it overnight in the fridge.. then remove slice and enjoy..you can cold smoke this to get an even tastier luncheon meat..
Feels like Texas gulf air here. Humid 86F that says ‘feels like 100’ here on the weather chart. “Hurricane Breath” I call it. Overnight low was a blistering 75F. Slept atop sheets & under a fan. “Slip & Slide”? (I remember those… injured a lot of kids!). That’s what I do inside my T-shirt around the house today. Active Flash Flood watch… we’re saturated. Moke arrives Sun morning. If you don’t hear from me (again) you will know what happened (again).
In my part of East Texas last night it was still 87 at 9:00 PM. 108 for daytime highs. Not what I signed up for when we bought this piney paradise 47 years ago.

I like a lot of things about East Texas, (the trees, rolling terrain, lakes, etc.) but one thing keeps me away from ever thinking about moving there … the summer heat, and how long it lasts.
Grew up with snow and ice and my body does NOT handle hot & humid well at all. A humid 90 has me gasping for breath, and it gets a lot WORSE than that in East Texas in the summer.

IT BROKE TODAY! Highest temp I’ve seen today is 85. First day below 100 in about 3 weeks, and I took advantage. Mowed the yard, leaving mounds of cut grass all over except the dead parts. Wish I could get the goats to eat all that fresh-cut grass!
