Reader Comments/Reports, Peoplenomics Research Update

No, this isn’t “ShopTalk Sunday” any more.  This is my “the Wall” – which was an online phenom before social media came along.  (Tell me you’re older than that?)

So, this morning we will highlight some Comments, update Peoplenomics Research Note # 2, and then our (snarky Sunday) BlinkLabNews.com outputs.

Also – the Over the Horizon News – output is not to be missed, either.

Comments And Reviews

UrbanSurvival has always had a very robust Comments section. Today is no different.  Everything from breaking news – where Hank on the big Island filed this overnight:

“LALA made hurricane strength at barely 75 mph at the NWS 11:00am update. ABC news has a reporter in Hilo. Local newscasts are wall-to-wall storm doom porn… when the Big Island power stay on. One shoreline resident on the eastern tip evacuated… but allowed the local TV reporter to stay at her house and report ‘standing in the wind & rain’. Sheesh! Many small area outages. I have frequent power glitches & don’t bother to reset the clocks. Contrary to reports, this is not the first time Hawaii has been ‘hit’ by a hurricane. I have seen at least three other storms behave just like this, skimming past south point. It is impossible for a hurricane eye to come ashore on the big island. Two 14,000 ft volcanos smash the wind circulation apart. Right now they are scraping the rain off the north quadrant as the eye passes south. We are getting dumped on.”

If you’re in Hawaii, keep an ear on the Inter-Island Net.

Ham Radio Op Note: High Frequency (HF) Nets

  • Aloha Net (Daily, 9:00 AM HST): Primary on 7.088 MHz LSB (shifts to 5.317.5 or 3.880 MHz depending on propagation).
  • HI-Noon Net (Daily, 12:00 PM HST): 7.088 MHz LSB.
  • Hawaii Afternoon Net (Daily, 4:00 PM HST / 0200Z): 7.188 MHz or 7.088 MHz LSB (alternates on 3.880 MHz LSB).
  • Pacific Inter-island Net (Daily, 10:00 PM HST / 0800Z): 14.315 MHz USB.

And – when I’m not out sweating in the shop, one of the HF rigs is usually on the Maritime Mobile Services Net on 14 300 MHz USB. That’s a godsend for the liveaboard and offshore class.

Book Review

A thanks to long-time reader Nancy Attaway in New Mexico for her review of my most recent novel D546: Ancient Children.

:You have written Ancient Children as an absolute horror story nightmare. You had me in tears most of the way.

The story line describes that life extensions require careful food intake, no sugar, regular exercise, limited alcohol, and tasks that keep your brain exercised. Those mark the baselines, and anything else either helps or hinders, depending upon the protocol. Since so much of the food available in stores contains a long list of chemicals that does adversely impact health, many choose to either purchase from local growers or maintain their own gardens, thus living healthier lives.

However, if you live too long, the narrative suggests that the government would rather keep you in their secret facilities than keep paying you Social Security benefits. Freedom is then canceled, and life is like a prison.

The part two of this novel will be a very interesting ending.”

Yesah – I think you’ll like the ending (it’s done and will be on the Peoplenomics side free – just like this book – in  a few weeks. I’m trying to rate-limit output because now that the writing tools are sharp, it’s easy to outrun my puny brain, too.

Another Amazon book to watch for should be out in a day or two from long-time reader A. G. Kimbrough – so watch his Author Page on the Zon.

We had a great chat Saturday – and it’s always fun sharing writing ideas back and forth.  His books “move faster” than mine (engineer brain at work!) while mine branch into layering and nuance (domain-walker brain). In common? Great plot lines.

One other Comment series on the read list.  Ray and LOOB are tossing Mayo recipes back and forth. Check with your cardiologist before reading.

Peoplenomics Follow-Up

In the Saturday Peoplenomics report, the curtain got lifted on a recent project here which had the roll-out title “Future Triangulation” and it dealt with exactly that.

After a 12-hour nose down research roll, though, things changed. So, the first version of this project was called Future Triangulation: Primal Driver Analysis. That title described the research problem accurately. We wanted to know whether the future leaves traces in the present, whether those traces can be separated from ordinary noise, and whether apparently independent forecasts are actually descendants of one upstream cause. The phrase “triangulation” fit because the idea was to approach the same future state from different lines of sight.  Multiple forms of prediction including numeric, fundamental (as in TA), prophetic, and so forth.

Then we tried to run it.

The moment a research method is turned into a field-deployable recurring machine, different questions appear. How far ahead should it look? What owns the next seven days and what owns the months beyond? How do we keep one high-volume story from painting the entire horizon? How do we stop a six-month vague forecast from carrying more weight than a precise two-day call simply because it occupies more calendar? What happens when an AI news rewrite repeats one old fact a hundred times? How should we treat people who claim foresight, but whose followers may summarize their meaning more efficiently than the original two-hour video? And can the search behavior of millions of ordinary people act as a distributed sensor before a concern becomes explicit news?

Those questions pushed the project out of the monograph and into software. Future Triangulation became the intellectual ancestry. Over-the-Horizon Software – OTH – became the instrument.

Two Hot Dates Ahead

The first is August 27th (challenge or change to Leadership) and there’s another cluster in the September 15-17 region. Plus the usual “stuff in the Fall.”

What’s [really, really, really] interesting is our research is how any mention of nuclear, radiation/radiological has disappeared. THAT is weird.  Flat-out strange.

I don’t think it means the risk of nuclear weapons use (or that Crimea region power station as a Chernobyl II) is off the table.  It just means it has gone ninja for now.
One thing all readers might keep in mind: I needed a “temporal breakpoint” where two future-directed scanning tasks were “fishing for future.”  The result is a one-week time horizon.  That close-in, regular news (foreshadowing) can fire up.  Beyond that, our Over-the-Horizon News taskers  take precedence.

News Compressor: ON

1. Adding to the “Hank Report” – Hurricane Lala missed a direct Big Island landfall, but Hawaii is still inside the damaging-impact phase rather than the all-clear. Lala passed just south of the Big Island as a Category 1 hurricane, bringing flooding, damaged roofs, widespread power outages, airport disruption and at least one storm-related death; early Sunday NWS products still showed Lala at hurricane strength with 70-knot sustained winds and flood/high-surf hazards remaining active..

2. Hormuz has deteriorated from degraded operation toward effective commercial paralysis. Reuters counted only two vessels through the strait Friday, while Iran says shipping remains subject to its control, Washington says its blockade can continue indefinitely, and U.S. gasoline averaged about $4.08 Friday—29% above a year earlier.
This remains BlinkLab’s largest global economic transmission risk because the physical shipping data continue to contradict hopes for imminent normalization. Trump/carrier Abe Lincoln food foul-up ire is not likely to feed into the Aug. 27th “Leadership Challenge” hot date, but you never know.

3. A magnitude-7.7 earthquake in eastern Indonesia has suddenly become a major new mass-casualty disaster. At least 51 people are dead, more than 100 injured and roughly 5,000 evacuated; landslides have blocked roads, more than 1,300 homes were damaged and hundreds of aftershocks were recorded while rescuers worked to reach isolated areas. This is today’s clearest new international disaster lead.

Big Science Note:  Why it is not antipodal to Colombia

True antipodes require:

  • Latitudes that are roughly equal in magnitude but opposite in sign, and
  • Longitudes that differ by approximately 180°.

Colombia’s antipodal region falls mainly over parts of southern Sumatra, the Java Sea, and western Indonesia (roughly around 4–6°S and 105–107°E). Bogotá’s antipode, for example, lands near southern Sumatra / Lampung area.

Flores is hundreds of kilometers farther east (longitude difference of roughly 15–17°). That is far outside any reasonable antipodal tolerance.

Related: There was a significant earthquake in Colombia a few days earlier (10 August 2026, Mw ~7.4–7.5 in the Chocó region). Some discussion exists about possible antipodal seismic effects between Colombia and parts of Indonesia/Sumatra in general, but the 15 August Flores event itself is not the antipode of Colombia (or of that earlier Colombian quake).

Bottom line: Same general tectonic “Ring of Fire” neighborhood in a broad sense, but geographically not antipodal.  And we award a green star to TBS for the (early) antipodal call…but more would require a few six-packs of discussion of “event tolerance parameters.”  (Now, back to work…)

4. Congo’s Ebola outbreak remains in uncontrolled geographic expansion after reaching a sixth province. The latest confirmed government tally is 4,665 cases and 2,184 deaths, while the new Bas-Uele case demonstrates that transmission has escaped another previously unaffected containment boundary.
No evidence located this morning supports calling a containment turn.  We’re all still just one plane ride away from Pandemic II.

Sub-List: Inside Pages

War Marches on:  Russia launched another overnight missile-and-drone attack on Kyiv, injuring civilians and setting fires, while Ukrainian drones simultaneously struck the Moscow region and killed one person. Reciprocal deep-strike warfare is intensifying.

Front 3 Action: Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon killed at least 11 people as Israel continues tying withdrawal to verified Hezbollah disarmament. Ceasefire architecture weakening.

Front 1 Tuning:  The U.S. has shifted its last Pacific aircraft carrier toward the Middle East, leaving the western Pacific temporarily without one of America’s principal carrier assets. Military concentration moving toward Iran.

Front 4 (pending): Taiwan finally passed its delayed 2026 budget while preserving T$63.4 billion for a major drone program; next year’s proposal is expected to include a 16% defense-spending increase. Defense investment accelerating.

AI’s Becoming More Key to Future Outcome:  Taiwan’s government says an overseas campaign used AI agents alongside human operators to attack government networks in July. AI-enabled cyber operations becoming operational reality.

Meanwhile, D.C. is preparing to tell partner countries they may have to choose between U.S.- and Chinese-led AI technology blocs rather than participating fully in both. AI geopolitics hardening into blocs. AI-driven tariff wars likely.

The AI Money Flows On:  Nvidia is reportedly considering investing as much as $3 billion in an SB Energy project supporting OpenAI’s planned Ohio data-center complex. AI infrastructure financing expanding.

Track the EU’s Fin-plosion drift: German companies cut direct investment into the United States to a three-year low during the first half of 2026 as policy uncertainty weighed on business decisions. Transatlantic investment confidence weakening. Two can play in this mud. Or the One vs. 27 with crank leadership.

EU Rev Fall? European companies are discovering substantial uninsured losses from this summer’s repeated extreme heat, exposing an expanding climate-insurance gap. Economic heat damage becoming structural. I haven’t refreshed on EU accounting this week, but as uninsured losses are booked, can they be written off and screw Belgium? Open research point.

News “Spotted”?  U.S. measles cases reached 2,566 as of August 13, already exceeding 2025’s full-year count of 2,289, with 94% of cases linked to outbreaks. Domestic infectious-disease pressure rising.

No Comp Time for Smokey: National wildfire resources remain heavily committed, with NIFC’s latest report showing 88 uncontained large fires, 29,363 personnel assigned and more than 7.2 million acres burned year-to-date. Slowly improving in fire count, still extreme in resource load.

Belgium has a big wildfire, too. With EU aircraft joining suppression efforts and villages evacuated. Escalating. (Both trees?)

After volcano watch flights are running again in Italy.

OBR (Odd but Real)

A marine heat wave off Southern California is drawing more stingrays toward beaches—and AP reports a corresponding rise in stingray injuries to swimmers. In other words, one practical manifestation of unusually warm ocean water is more people stepping on stingrays.

Being SoCal we’d bet more on a “split-window” of reports to total 283 or 327… (rim shot).

Projecting Ahead:

Major river flooding and additional flash-flood impacts will persist east of Indiana through Sunday into Monday. Current NWS products show major river flooding continuing while the broader heavy-rain threat shifts toward the central Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic.  Dry as hell around here.

Monday’s Japan GDP release will become the first important macroeconomic read of the new trading week. Economists are expecting roughly 2% annualized growth despite the global energy shock.  We’re such old-timers when it comes to inflation, that we can remember when “economists” were still a dime a dozen.

U.S. consumer strength will become the dominant market-testing theme Tuesday through Thursday after Friday’s 0.6% retail-sales decline. Home Depot reports Tuesday, Target and Lowe’s Wednesday, Walmart Thursday, while Fed minutes arrive Wednesday. Still plenty of room for one more move (to top of channel in PN charts) before the August 27th leadership challenge window.

Coffee done – research calls – looking at 100F here again today. Greenhouse engineering is holding tomatoes around 95F but still getting blossom drop.  Bring me a side of “chill!” – stat.

  1. George I have found here in central Florida, that if my tomatoes don’t get 2-3 hours a day of below 75 degrees I get the same thing happening

  2. Posers, Wannabees, and the rest of the peanut gallery – time for more EDUCATION regards science around Earthquakes. The following video presentation takes you thru exacty HOW To Earthquake predictions/calls. The guy doing the Educating is none other then Dutchsinse. He has been Schooling the clowns at USGS, Schooling ALL the university professors whose livelihoods depend on parroting “official” narratives piled higher and deeper.

Information is available publicly and WARNINGS are posted at least 1-2 weeks in advance.
    Dutchsinse – posting timestamp?

    Latest on Antipodals -https://youtu.be/BwDNJaB0-hM?

Thx – but no thanks green stars/backhands.

Only Gold Stars will do, and even then if on TS mission – you get NO recognition(No Ribbons, Stars, Pins, nothing) as it never happened in the first place. Although I must say the fine folks at Hercules Candy give tbs Gold Stars on his packages – because I follow their shipping instructions to the T.

Yes – thats an indication of the size my “Phreque” – just LUV getting freaky wit It! No, get Ure minds out of the gutter..for a second, talking having FUN, not Asses and Elbows Booty Knocking.
