Retail has to be the lead – because?  As we spend, so we end…

Advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales for April 2025, adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes, were $724.1 billion, up 0.1 percent (±0.5 percent)* from the previous month, and up 5.2 percent (±0.5 percent) from April 2024. Total sales for the February 2025 through April 2025 period were up 4.8 percent (±0.5 percent) from the same period a year ago. The February 2025 to March 2025 percent change was revised from up 1.5 percent (±0.5 percent) to up 1.7 percent (±0.2 percent).

Then there’s Producer Prices (which eventually go for your wallet):

The Producer Price Index for final demand fell 0.5 percent in April, seasonally adjusted, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Final demand prices were unchanged in March and increased 0.2 percent in February. (See table A.) On an unadjusted basis, the index for final
demand rose 2.4 percent for the 12 months ended in April.

The April decline in the index for final demand is attributable to prices for final demand services, which decreased 0.7 percent. The index for final demand goods was unchanged.

Prices for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services edged down 0.1 percent in April,
the first decline since falling 0.8 percent in April 2020. For the 12 months ended April 2025, the
index for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services advanced 2.9 percent.

A month ago, crude oil prices were running about $70-bucks on the Future’s market.

This morning, they were struggling to hold $60.

The weird thing is?  Well, last month, Triple A was reporting the national average gas price was $3.172.  But, this morning the price nationally is $3.192.

An average of 2-cents a gallon may not seem like a big deal.  (My consigliere will say it’s seasonal and crude changes can take months to show up. )  But to us – simple-minded and all – it reminds us that involuntary sex with the consuming public hasn’t ever really changed much, regardless of which party holds power.

Stocks Pausing?

Could the tarrif delay rally be ending?  Maybe.  But, you will have to look closely at the right side of the chart because we are just hooking down a bit in the early slog.

We don’t see the market as the only place where sobriety is stalking.  Gold was down again and even the Almighty Bitcoin, center of the Hyperverse, had fallen to Proverty Row down around $101,726 and at this rate we could imagine a “goal line stand” at the six-figure mark.

Around the Ranch: Woo-Woo on the Loose

Two real head-scratchers around here this week.  Having to do with “disappearing and reappearing” household items.

The first event was Monday.  I was cooking breakfast and needed to microwave something (leftovers) so I reached for the plastic cover for the wave, right?  Lives on top like everyone’s does. Except it wasn’t there…

“Elaine!  Where the hell did the microwave splatter cover go?”

“Should be right on top of the microwave, dear, just…like always….”

Well, no.  And it wasn’t in the roll-around island.  And not in with the pots over the stove. Not over the wave in the plate cupboard. Not under the sink.  Not in any of the food cupboards.  Not in the pantry.  Not on the back-cabinets.  Not under the prep area…not over at the bar.  Not in the bedroom, the studio, livingroom, the 180-martini room, not in either bathroom, and it hadn’t been pressed into service as a cat bowl, either.

In fact, we spent a good 20-minutes tearing the room apart; down on hands and knees, flashlight…the whole deal.  Just dropped into subspace or something…  “Did you look inside the dryer?”

Of course not. But we exhausted everything else!  Then I went shopping online and found out that splatter covers (you can spend $40-bucks on one!!!) may be the only thing holding this economy together. Have aliens given up on abducting humans and they’re going for kitchen gear now?  Just the damnedest thing I have ever seen.

BUT subspace was opening up and taking things all week, around here.

I went to get the pick-up truck keys.  Hmm.  Not in the brass key bowl second drawer down under the vitamin bar.  They are ALWAYS there.

“Elaine!  Where the hell did the truck keys go?”

I took the bowl out – and she showed up in a minute or two and looked through the drawer. Took almost everything out.

“Nope, not here, dear…did you leave them in the truck? Over in your office maybe?”

I skulked away muttering about woo-woo and demanding the keys be returned by whatever demon had heisted them.

Sure enough… half and hour later, here comes Elaine over to the office.  She was holding up the keys and wiggling them.

“You won’t believe this, but look what I found….”

“Where were they?”

“Same drawer we BOTH LOOKED IN….”  

She had emptied out the drawer – for a second time – and almost as if by magic – while she had the whole key collection dumped on the roll-around, the keys just “materialized” back into the drawer.  Dumbfounding.

It has been that kind of a week around here.  Odd stuff like this going onn all the time.  Set a tool down, turn away from it, and the odds of it being where it was just placed?  About 90 percent.

I know – PHYSICS says 100 percent, they have to be there.  But not this week.  To the point where I have become super mindful of everything.  Knowing that even the smallest slip and items will begin dfisapopearing again.  I even looked up to see if we had somehow slipped into that three-week before a Mercury Retrograde where this kind of thing is nearly “normal.”

It’s almost like if I don’t hold it in my consciousness, it goes away.  (Yet, I wasn’t able to materialize a PowerBall Ticket, so that was a disappointment…  But this was the kind of week where if I had been able to materialize a ticket, it would have been a losing one…)

Nope.  Just the mysteries of life. Which continue to be, well, mysterious.

  3. I have torn the place apart looking for the TV remote. There is a place it is supposed to be but rarely is. Not a woo woo but an 8 year old granddaughter who finds it humorous to hid it in unusual places. I’m glad your truck keys reappeared

    • The best thing to do with a TV(or other) remote is to glue it to the TV set! Use something strong, like epoxy.

      It likely won’t disappear – even the poltergeists and aliens will have trouble unsticking it.

      A bigger problem is finding the one odd 16 mm wrench when it decides to go missing. Of course, I have over 1/2 dozen 14mm wrenches and most others too.

      • Most 5/8″ wrenches will fit most 16mm fasteners. If the 5/8 is on the narrow side of tolerance and the fastener is on the high side, it will not fit then.

        • He typed “16.” I’m pretty sure he meant “10.” The magic wrench sizes which disappear frequently, and on their own, are 1/2″, 9/16″, and 10mm (and often 13mm and 14mm, when they’re used in place of missing 1/2″ and 9/16″ wrenches) — also sockets of all the above.

        • regarding tools, if you are breaking loose tight bolts with sockets, the 12 point sockets are more prone to splitting under high load where the 6 point sockets seem to hold up better and also resist knocking off the corners of the tight bolt or nut. Use the best quality you can afford…

  6. I was working on the fences on the far end of the ranch. I went to the Ranger for a bag of staples and realized I had left them back at the shop. Crap! I jumped into the drivers seat and when I reached for the ignition…..no key. I spent the next half hour looking everywhere for it. The mile long walk back to the shop for the spare key from the key box, I have 2 in separate locations, was actually rather pleasant, nice day and I had Jeffery with me who had to stop and pee on everything. I pondered how big his bladder must be. I grabbed the spare key and stopped by the house for a glass of water. DIana was cooking up a batch of dog food. It smells just like chicken stew, which it actually is, and I considered sneaking a little bowl of it until I saw her dump a big bowl that looked like sewage into it. Appetite gone. I started the walk back and told Jeffery let’s go. He just layed down with Starsky and Hutch and stared at the patio door drooling a little . I got about 20 yards from the house and I heard Diana say, Jeffery go with Jim. We made it back and I got into the drivers seat. Would you care to guess what was in the ignition?

      Florida National Guard F-16 shoots down a KC-10 with a sidewinder missle after refusing to land after it was observed spraying unknown substance over Miami Beach. The KC-10 crashed into the ocean 6 miles off the coast in the deepest part of the ocean for a 100 miles in all direction. Witnesses said the plane desitagrated into a 1000 peices upon impact indicating that recoververing any evidence of what was being sprayed to be very slim.     • I’ve been considering something similar to Juan O’Savin’s explanation for chemtrails, as given in the previous link. Since the chemtrails are world-wide, not just over the U.S., they must be building something more than a military defense. Could they be building a Faraday shield over the whole earth to protect it from what TPTB know is coming from outer space? The most obvious danger, which is either a major cover-up or a major hoax, is the magnetic pull that the alleged PlanetX/Niburu will exert upon earth’s magnetic core as it approaches earth, thereby causing a crustal shift. They may intend to have that pull be deflected by our aluminized atmosphere. I am certain that the bunkers being built by the elites are not for nuclear protection, but for an even greater danger, such as the often-prophesied approach of a highly magnetic planet that will induce a cataclysm. As Juan says, there are bad effects from spraying chemtrails, but the effects from not spraying them may be even worse.

    Actually I have NEVER bought a microwave splatter cover, never had one (I just use paper towels), but suddenly this week one just randomly showed up on top of my microwave.

    … Strange, but who am I to look a gift horse, or rather gift ghost, in the mouth.

    Now I am hoping that that same gift ghost will bring a new Suburban to my driveway soon. The old one has gotten a BAD case of rust pox. (Secretary Kennedy you need to get your scientists to work on solving that terrible Rust Pox disease) Sure over the last dozen years I have only driven it about 2300 miles a year, only when I need to tow something, but it is becoming an embarrassment to be pulling into a upper class establishment, such as Waffle House, driving such a diseased thing. I know it clearly is now contagious since nobody seems to want to park next to it when I the nice new cars and trucks show up.

    Anyway … hopefully that gift ghost will be stopping by soon, with a NEW Suburban!! White Please!! … oh with just a few simple upgrades … I want the nice leather seats, captains chairs in the back, sunroof, surround sound system, full tow package, and of course make it the diesel one.     while on the first vacation of my life..I was on a walk with someone who’s career revolved around Oklahoma off grid ,d’lynn’s and majors and I had made the comment..the only true defense I have is a pepperball gun..where he laughed and said..I know you know how to make that more dangerous..
    the daughters question..brought me to reality..     • I lost most of a set of Revere Ware copper bottom cooking pots and a lid!! to that darn “Disappearing Ghost”

      Unfortunately they no longer make those stainless steel pots and pans … wish I had bought some more back in the day but had no idea they would totally disappear from the known world since they had been around for decades.

      Over the years I acquired 3 full sets, I am clear on that since I have 3 stock pots with lids and 3 tea pots and those only came with a full set. I can account for ONE full set (at my camper), most of another set I use daily …almost complete but minus a lid for one pot which I desperately need, and then the last set for which I can only locate the stock pot and the tea pot.

      Now I wish I had bought a few more sets and had them in unopened boxes. Looking at E-Bay it appears that a full set of those Revere Ware copper bottom pots and pans now sells for $1100 to $1500, whereas K-Mart sold them as a full set as part of their Martha Stewart line for about $110 (when on sale)!! Darn … another great investment opportunity LOST!

      My oh my where did the ghost who disappears stuff take those pots and pans off to? ( … or was it the ex wife when she moved out? … umm)

        In late ’66 Revere halved the amount of copper. The old ones are every bit as good as the fancy (non Revere), couple hundred bux per saucepan new stuff. I bought mine because it’s 30% more efficient than iron, steel, aluminum, ceramic, or anything else…

Seems my self directed 401 advisor has cautioned that my 100% allocation into one asset class is risky, not understanding the nuances of an ETP fund in Bitcoin and a spot ETF and holding positions I both . Reality: the self directed is only half of my 401. The other half is in a certain company’s stonk. So I’m really 1/3 1/3 1/3 Love that, you must rebalance to no more than 10%…. just as looking at my long term performance, well > 10X over 3 years including a withdrawal + taxes during beer flu to make the second mortgage aggressor go away……. Why I tell you all this folks? Well because if I was desperate to try and get some bitcoins liquid on the exchanges, and I was the bank, I would try and shake everyone’s tree under the guise of “too risky” sell some back to us now. Lmao. Not advice people. But the targeted AI (logic) was poorly written here, betraying and exposing the authors intent. That doesn’t fit the argument .   18. Three., maybe four days ago I pulled out my pocket knife to cut a nylon string I was using in the vegetable garden. Cut the string – and then I screwed-up.., I sat the knife down next to my coffee cup, on the small table next to me. I never set my knife down. Wipe the blade and snap it closed and back into my pocket. Always.
    Wrapped the remaining string up., tucked into the garden storage bag and reached for my knife. It wasn’t there. The table is only two feet in diameter.., looked under the table., then all around the table and then where I was standing., searched the garden bag.., No knife. I was puzzled and a bit miffed. I have had that pocket knife [ San Mai – Cold Steel ] for over twenty years., never without it.., have never sat it down., either.
    WTH !??
    I grumbled my way back into the house.., made a fresh cup of coffee and retrieved my back-up pocket knife [ limited edition Damascus Benchmade ].., then went back out to the garden to look again. As I sat my coffee cup down on the small wooden table, there was my pocket knife.., out in the open, in plain easy view, right where I had set it down next to my coffee cup in the first place.

    • I had five gallons of molasses..put a saw next to it on the freezer. wife at work ..I go out to the garage.. wow what a mess it all drained out.. I hauled everything out worked my butt off to clean this mess up.. then put everything back.. wife gets home comes in ranting about this horrible molasses mess in the garage.. I think oh my God what did I miss.. I go out and under the freezer door there was a small spot the size of a silver dollar.. she would have been furious if she had seen the other

  19. Keep the thieving time-traveling ghosts away! Why has no one mentioned Apple Airtags? (For Androids, there are SmartTags.) They are on our keys and wallets and have saved us literally hours of frustration. Some people use them on TV remotes. In case the phone needed activate them goes missing, best to have the app installed on multiple phones or tablets.

    Of course, on non-critical items like splatter covers or favorite knives, you are on your own. I’ve been looking for an airplane bluetooth adapter for months so I don’t have to deal with dangling wires for headphones. I know I had it . . . must be those damned Reptilians again.

  23. So much bullshit about Trump getting a ‘free plane’. Ugh! First… the plane doesn’t go to Trump. It goes to the US Air Force. It also has to be retrofitted for in-flight refueling and presidential communications. The way things are going, that might not get finished while Trump is still in office! Even if Boeing is not doing the retrofit!

    Look at the Qataris… dumping their 747-8 cargo fleet also. UPS is taking those freighters. Perhaps the Qataris have learned that the 747-8 is expensive to operate an old, 4 engine jet and newer jets are much more efficient and cheaper to operate. BRIGHT IDEA! “Lets pawn off the old ‘flying palace’ on the USA and get rid of that expense!” (They tried to give it to another country also, which didn’t want it)

    I wonder how many new 777s they ordered from Boeing? If Trump was DOGE smart, he would cancel that boondogle 747s ‘Air Force One’ orders and go for newer, more efficient, twin engine 777s for the Air Force One fleet.
