  1. Good report. I was wondering how he got a rental truck in all that chaos…, pretty damn lucky.
    – Way to go, Stu. Glad that it did, and is working out.
    .
    Keep swimming !

  2. I just happened to visit the site and read his latest post. I’m glad to hear from him and, Stu, I’m in the ranks of the serious but disillusioned professionals.

    • G.A. STEWART: The irony of losing everything in a flood is writing a book about Doom and providing the year, 2024. Sometimes I wonder about quantum physics and creating our own reality. That kind of speculation I will save for another day.

  3. So glad you are ok Stu. Your blog today is an incredible read for many reasons including your comments on “fake” Christians.

“There are no “positives” in other people’s suffering.”

  4. Hang in, Stu. You are a needed and necessary person.
If you put out a list of needs, maybe we have some of what you’ll be needing.

Your work has helped and edified me greatly. I owe ya.

    May God bless…

  5. Excellent report from Stu! I truly hope that things work to his advantage long term. The short term certainly isn’t over.

His report said that weather wars would be in the opening phase of the next war, and that Florida was one of the top five states “in the top military five”! What are the remaining four? This is definitely worth knowing!

Best of luck setting up something stable in the new house!

  6. , (“I saw my old Marine buddy for the first time in two years in the local Starbucks last week. He lost a lung from a bullet in a Vietnam rice paddy; so, at 76, he has been laying low since COVID 19.

Never one to hold back, he said, “Stu, you’re getting fat.”)

I am glad you’re okay. my grandson’s in the same area you are. and I have been really close to worried sick about him. fortunately he seems to be doing okay and hasn’t had to deal a lot his apartment was on the third floor. now to correct your Marine buddy. you’re not getting fat you’ve developed powerful muscles that enable you to sit for long periods of time without tiring. is our general age group things change and as you get older.

  7. Stu … glad you are now moved and up high enough that you should be OK in the event even more storms come your way during the balance of the season.

With everything going on I definitely did NOT expect an update from you, but THANK YOU!! From where I sit we have now had the 2 minute break, are in the last 30 seconds of the game, and I am now biting my nails.

    Stay safe and THANK YOU

    • Wait, what ? No Overtime period ?

How about a Shootout, if no one scores/dies in OT ?

Like the mighty Flyers, Friday night in Vancouver – getting Frosty with it..put the biscuit in the basket for SO Win!

*Philadelphia has acquired one of the most advanced-highly skilled Russian anti missile shields in the world – The Michov39. Backup Goalie aint bad neither..

  8. Good post Stu. Have you started writing down and prioritizing your recovery purchases ? I would make a few suggestions:
Portable power station which can be used to charge portable devices like smart phones. Bluetti with LiFePO4 batteries are good. You can use it as a UPS for computer and comm equipment. A couple of portable solar cells make it useful extended grid down. Don’t go over 2 KW-H capacity in a rent house. Store 18″ above the floor if in the garage, minimum, per code.
Either get a new vehicle with an enclosed back end, or a small Pace trailer, or both. Don’t buy used unless you are absolutely sure where it came from. One sniff usually gives away a flood vehicle.
Check out used furniture somewhere it hasn’t flooded.
All that heavy wood furniture I bought in my youth is as much a burden as a source of pride these days. I’m glad your back is in better shape than mine. Take care.

  9. Hey, I want to thank you all. It’s been two crazy weeks, and we are coming up on a war with Israel and Iran. It’s liable to get crazier. let’s hope George is wrong about this weekend.

I visited St. Pete today, there is still no power at my old place, and it is spotty all over town. Big trees are down, billboards are down and, I saw a few gas lines. It’s the worst I have seen in all my history of hurricanes.

    Many thanks for the well-wishes!

  10. Reading of Stu’s ordeal makes me extremely grateful for the choices I made in life, and the situation I’m in. I have hurricanes, but… I could never live in Florida.

    • I’m 300 ft. ASL and 2.2 miles inland, and away from established drainage channels in the rocky volcano. Survived 54 inches of rain in 24 hours with hurricane Lane.

  11. Because of coastal flooding three times at my parent’s house, to a depth of three feet in the living room from hurricanes over thirty years, we bought our first house NOT in a river valley or flood plain, and partway up a gentle knobby hillside at about 500 feet ASL.

Noah would drown before we got flooded. It’s served us well. Same formula for when we moved to North Carolina, plus 150 miles inland from the sea. We’re delibeately close to Bragg because in case of wide civil disturbance, a security zone surrounds the fort area. The downside tradeoff is being so close to the ten-ring for a hyper-brilliant sunup event. If the bad guys nook Bragg, there would be no place called “America” left anyway.

    • Elevation (within reason) is good. I am up on a ridge roughly 75 -100 foot of elevation above the nearest major creek bed about a mile-and-a-half distant. I have to drive down to get out of my place in most every direction.
Periodically I get solicitations for flood insurance. I figure the Cotton Bowl will be under a couple hundred feet of seawater before it backs up to me. I like being able to just say no to flood insurance.
