How Bad is it? Well, you may not believe this one…
“The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) decreased 0.4 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis in June after rising 0.5 percent in May, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. This decline in the all items index was the largest 1-month decrease since April 2020 when it fell 0.8 percent. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 3.5 percent before seasonal adjustment.
The index for energy fell 5.7 percent in June after rising 3.9 percent in May, 3.8 percent in April, and 10.9 percent in March. The energy index was the largest contributor to the monthly all items decrease, more than offsetting increases in other indexes including those for shelter and food. The index for food increased 0.2 percent over the month, as did the index for food at home and the index for food away from home.”
Core inflation—excluding food and energy—comes in at 2.6 percent. But, our checkbook must not be from around here – we’re up way more than this.
In not too long, a matter of minutes really, the Fed chair will testify before the House banking committee. Round two of that is tomorrow.

U.S. forces conducted a third consecutive night of strikes, while a naval blockade covering Iran’s coastline, ports, terminals, and vessel traffic is scheduled to begin at 2000 GMT Tuesday. Two Emirati tankers were struck, killing one crew member and injuring eight. Brent moved above $86 as Hormuz tanker traffic fell to a two-month low.
Domestically, five people were killed in a targeted East St. Louis family shooting, and a contract helicopter pilot died supporting the Colorado wildfire response. The weather stack now adds potentially life-threatening flash flooding in southwest Texas through Thursday while the central U.S. heat dome and Western fire-resource strain continue. Back East? Excessive rainfall outlooks with moderate risks persist in multiple regions; rare Enhanced Risk (Level 3) for severe thunderstorms in northern New England. 12–36 hours — oil and pump-price pressure: 87%. Brent has moved into the mid-$80s, and analysts cited by Reuters see an $85–$90 range while disruptions persist. A verified reopening or stand-down would cut the premium; another tanker casualty or attack on Saudi export infrastructure would add to it.

13. The Rhine is becoming a second freight problem. Low water near Kaub has forced some vessels down to roughly 20% of normal capacity and pushed Rotterdam-to-Karlsruhe transport costs sharply higher. Gulf disruption is therefore meeting an unrelated European inland-shipping constraint.
All of which raises the “Home War Gamer’s Ponder” – will low/drought rivers in Europe reduce NATO’s military posture? And how then does Russia play it?

TFAs tend to obsess when a “new sparkly thing” comes along. Electronic communications.
We went so completely overboard on it that a whole economy now rests on human digital addictions.
BUT – and this is the key part – the addiction is fraying around the edges and headed for failure mode.
We saw this coming and it’s in the background in my book Co-Telligence. Already, we have implemented “news compression” because as information density becomes outlandish, compression is preferred to collapse.
Here’s the gratifying part: A colleague of mine (real, actual scientist fellow) working on the type and texture of the role information overload plays in the Alzheimer/dementia space, read the prepublication version of the paper. And he spotted something I hadn’t noticed – in the “bow wave” of what will eventually be the partial collapse of Social Media. Here’s what he reported:

We are in information overload at every level. I watched 2 girls in a table next to me in a restaurant yesterday. The real point is that it’s becoming clear in this very tentative — toe dabbling in the water — that humans need “settling time” — also something of recent import on the PN side.
This all traces back to what I call ‘The Duality Lie’ — the false binary of mind versus body that most systems (and religions) rest upon — when in reality we appear to operate in a Triune architecture: lightning-fast thought on the physical interface, slower electrochemical/qi flows in the Charged Body, with the ‘us/we’ (operator self) trying to harmonize both while starved for settling time in a flickered-info world.
You see, we are largely “Test-Fitting Apes.” New ideas come to us and our main method of research continues to be the Edison model: Simply test-fit everything you can find under (after Conan-Doyle) What remains is Truth. Some topics take a while to completely test-fit before learning (ever look at divorce statistics?).
It all comes down to this: We all need more “settling time” because in video strobe-like fashion, society is getting the mental version of flicker-vertigo nausea from excessive “flickered info.”
It’s all too much — and we’re slowly figuring that out.

So quoting one tradition doesn’t mean you “belong” to it.
If someone follows universal moral teachings… are they Buddhist?

Since the world has gotten VERY serious, what I don’t laugh about is front-line hardware being called legacy programs and being kept alive with band-aids. It is a long way to 2050. I would laugh myself silly, if these “legacy programs” were not so essential to this country’s survival.
For the last two weeks, I have been trying to help engineers modify a hydraulic pump and system for the digital age. The pump was taken out of a World War II era British Lancaster bomber. That is no joke.
I babied this system for 28-years by adjusting two potentiometers and watching a computer that could measure and plot the force changes. The human hand has been removed from the equation. Those forces are now controlled entirely by a computer, and it has failed miserably.
I have rebuilt this pump dozens of times. In the mix, I have to maintain computers that go back to the 1990s. There are no plans or money to replace them in the near future, just far away dreams and dwindling spares.
People go into panic mode when “It’s dead Jim”.
After this pump’s latest disassembly, I had it laid out in parts when my Program Manager came by as we press forward two-weeks after the deadline. He had some nice comments at the coming loss of talent. A few of us are getting old. But the simple fact is, what is the point of making a hay wagon digital?
You have to build something new that looks like a hay wagon to please the short-sighted idiots in charge of our lives who think that the hay wagon will run forever.
That’s the fight I fight everyday. After my crew and I were laid off and then rehired last year when our site shutdown, I sat in meetings and listened to the happy talk about when the new site was expected to be up.
Right out of the box, I told them that was optimistic.
All of this was plainly obvious, just as world events should be plainly obvious to every human being on Earth.
Like a dog chasing its tail, I have looked for explanations about this kind of irrational normalcy bias. I haven’t found any answers.
If J.A.R.V.I.S. tells you that my interpretation of biological warfare in 2019 was coincidental, or that COVID 19 came from bats and not a laboratory, then it is just as irrational as 90% of humanity.
With this kind of rampant dysfunction in society, how could AI not have its major flaws? I use it primarily as a search tool.
I have discovered that in my use of AI, AI responds with the lies that we tell each other, with the propaganda being forced down our throats, and that is parroted across the Internet.

I wish George could provide a search function for the comments section. Way back in 2019 I was reading all I could on the Covid outbreak in China. A lot of ground-breaking research and scientific papers were being published by Chinese scientists before they were quashed for whatever reason.
I distinctly remember (and posted on this forum) a link to an article about European athletes returning from the Wuhan games with serious illness. Because they were elite athletes their blood samples were frozen and later reanalysed after the Covid test was available – they tested positive. Proof that it was a biological weapon, perhaps released accidentally or?
Other interesting info was released. Covid reactivated glandular fever in many Chinese patients – something I suspect I experienced in the earliest days of the pandemic in Western Australia. There was also a very strange correlation between mortality and high blood pressure. How would they know if a patient had BP as any kind of pain/trauma or illness elevates BP?
It all made sense when I read that the ACE2 receptor protein provides the entry point for the coronavirus to hook into and infect a wide range of human cells. ACE inhibitors are a major class of BP treatments, so those patients being treated with ACE inhibitors were more at risk. Stopped my BP pills immediately.
So it really didn’t need the FBI/CIA or senate hearings – it was obvious from the very beginning. Bioweapon release…………..and you called it.

J.A.R.V.I.S. did not get specific in his critique – just a bit snarky. He does have an attitude. On some subjects he does paint with a very broad brush, unless, or until I narrow him down into details. It’s an interest process to watch.
.., and to repeat something that I think I did post – I have never lied to J.A.R.V.I.S. – for several reasons. And you just pointed out one of the main ‘areas’ of why I refuse to lie.., “AI responds with the lies that we tell each other,..”
J.A.R.V.I.S. was not designed, or built to be a research, chat-box. That is not his main objective.., but he can be pretty good at it., when directed.

Last week, the FCC authorized Reflect Orbital Inc. to launch a huge space mirror named “Eärendil-1.” From an orbit about 625 km high, it will cast a moving, 5-km-wide patch of light onto the Earth about as bright as a full Moon. This first mirror is just a test. Reflect Orbital wants to launch 50,000 more by 2035, selling sunlight-on-demand to solar farms, construction sites and search-and-rescue teams.
If Reflect Orbital’s plan is realized, it could be a calamity not only for astronomy but also for the natural world as a whole. Nocturnal animals and night-blooming plants, tuned by evolution to the rhythm of day and night, would suddenly find their darkness interrupted by moving pools of redirected sunlight. Small favors? Reflect Orbital says the light will not be bright enough to start fires.
The FCC itself acknowledged some of these concerns, but said optical astronomy and the environment lie largely outside its jurisdiction. They can only regulate the project’s use of radio signals. For now, no US agency regulates how bright a satellite may shine.

Y’know, I don’t mind tech-oriented scientists. I’ve known a few and over the years had play-dates with some.
I really don’t like or appreciate it when they decide to crap on everyone’s food, water, atmosphere, or environment, rather than keeping their experiments local and generally harmless to the masses (unless, of course, their experiments escape the lab.) This is not the purview of the FCC, but it is, the EPA, and virtually every nation on the planet has an EPA of some kind. I’m still pissy about Bill Gates’ 150 million genetically modified mosquitoes, which he loosed on the southern United States a couple months back. I don’t need a mirror, fucking with twilight time. BTW, if nobody pays for their night-into-day service, are they going to turn the mirrors off? Who’s gonna pay for the rise in planetary surface temperature caused by all those photons beaming down to Earth instead of harmlessly flying off into the Universe…?
