My pal – The Major – and I were about age 7 – maybe 8 – when we started jumping off his family carport in earnest. Somewhere in here, his grandmother made him a Superman outfit. She was quite the seamstress.

Unassisted by the included cape she’d sewn for him, I continued to jump regularly (and – on dares – from even higher – sometimes the adjoining house roof).  With no cape, all those 8 and 15-foot jumps may have damaged my DNA. Because my offspring now has just over 2,500 skydives spanning base-jump shorties at stadiums to team HALO jumps.  Now, follow along:

Mister Mxyzptlk came into existence about this point in DC Comic – Superman history.  Mid Fifties.  We’d rush up to to Owen’s Pharmacy at least once a week (the new editions came in on Fridays) to see what the latest was with Superman’s archenemy (Mxyzptlk) from Bizarro World. Which is off in another dimension, which explains the Wikipedia note:

“Mister Mxyztplk was introduced in the Golden Age as an imp from the “fifth dimension”. Not being bound by physical laws, he can do things that seem to be magical. In his first appearance, Mxyzptlk wreaks havoc across Metropolis by using his powers to pull all manner of pranks, first pretending he got hit by a truck and killed, then increasing his weight when the ambulance gets there and waking up to shock them. What is more, he destroys Superman’s worldview of himself. Mxyztplk jumps out a window, fooling Superman into thinking he is committing suicide. When he appears unharmed, an astonished Superman exclaims, “I-I thought I was the only man who could fly!!” He gives the Mayor the voice of a donkey, and then blows papers over the town. As the tale took form – into the Sixties – the Myxl fellow somehow leads to the Phantom Zone and from there to? Bizarro World which was Earth spelled backwards. We won’t even attempt to lay out the short version of Bizarro World, other than point you at its own Wiki entry here.

“Which has what to do with Modern markets, Ure?”

If you haven’t figured it out by now, you must be a college drop-out or democrat. Because we are skirting the edge of the Fifth Dimension (of Bizarro World, no, not the singing group) right now in real-time.

I ask you: Where else could Marco Rubio become Secretary of State?

Evidence of the comical (or, maybe not-so-much) pseudo reality can be see in both political developments as well as market numbers and economic factoids.  Let’s start there.

To the TEF Question

The Economic Fractalist  was asking if Friday was a possible market top – and along came Monday’s “half-a-holiday” (bond markets closed) session.  The problem, clearly visible in our U.S. Aggregate Index view, is that we have two possible upper bounds for the next trend channel that’s in trouble overhead.

As you can see (depending on the resolution served by our “dollar store” server and compression software) is the pair of yellow lines (upper right). There’s a dashed one, too, but we nailed that yesterday.

Now the problem with technical analysis (chartograhy, if you will) is the “rules” are straight out of Bizarro World (which also delivers Fed policy guidance).

On Thursdays, ahead of a full moon, the upper solid line is resistance and where things could turn down.  But at all other times, except during an incoming tide in Nantucket (where charts are so wrong we said Phuket Thailand…um…) in which case, the dashed line is overhead, we’ve gone slightly over and so the end is near.  Like Iran fighting kicks off after a small pullback today and WW III goes into ramp. Or Zylensky freaks and goes balls-out (not a far stretch for him…er…) and he “goes deep” into Russia and (repeat after me) “and WW III goes into ramp.”

Crazy as this all sounds, it’s still starkly logical compared to a Kamala Harris Word Waldorf.

Bitcoin is also now in position to “jump off the higher roof” having made it almost to $90,000 per made-up number before sobriety came by and whacked things down to $85,850.

TEF has noticed one of his indicators (a global index) peaked last week.  But this gets us walking up the mountain to the monetary monastery to pray for more wisdom.  “Oh, lord Mxyzptlk, how is it that indices and assets  are selected to break from the general stampede?”

  • Some Globals have rolled over.
  • Taiwan’s market fell 2.3 percent overnight.  AI bubble-up?
  • MMCE (mostly minor craters elsewhere). Japan only dropped 157, for example.
  • BCE (bigger craters in Europe), though: France is down 1.3 percent, the Unemployed Kingdom down one percent and Germany is down 8-1oths.

Truth is Gold may have peaked for this cycle in Bizarro – global indexes are looking “carport-like” and we have unlimited confidence in the ability of Buydem-Harris to turn defeat into utter calamity.  But let’s save Jane for later.

The Big War is still coming.  Because most of the time when the Fed has to lower rates, there’s a major market decline (almost 50 percent) within six-months or so.  Here in Bizarro World, please keep your eyes on Fed Chair Is Ready for a Legal Fight because Trump wants him gone. And since the Fed policy reversal should begin to bite any minute, (see the stampede above), Trump will need a “donkey to pin it on.”  As luck would have it, dems have plenty of jackasses to go around.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Nov. 12, 2024) – The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index rose by 2.2 points in October to 93.7. This is the 34th consecutive month below the 50-year average of 98. The Uncertainty Index rose seven points to 110, the highest reading recorded. A seasonally adjusted net negative 20% of small business owners reported higher nominal sales in the past three months, the lowest reading since July 2020.

“With the election over, small business owners will begin to feel less uncertain about future business conditions,” said NFIB Chief Economist Bill Dunkelberg. “Although optimism is on the rise on Main Street, small business owners are still facing unprecedented economic adversity. Low sales, unfilled jobs openings, and ongoing inflationary pressures continue to challenge our Main Streets, but owners remain hopeful as they head toward the holiday season.”

Weathering Life

Mentioned the Taiwan stock market drop overnight.  May be somehow keyed to Typhoon batters storm-weary Philippines and displaces thousands more people as a new storm threatens.

Europe could be in for a tough early winter this year: Weather experts predict snow bombshell for Europe.

And we do look in on the NOAA Solar Cycle Progression periodically.  this month we can see the solar peak pretty clearly (might have something to do with all the “hottest year ever” stories).  But the real question is whether the Sun is done for this cycle (in which case we slide into the higher risks of X-class flares for a three to five yer period) or if there might be a double top in the works:

Been OK (sometimes even good) on ham radio over the past couple of months onto he HF radio bands.  But the real question is “what’s next?”

Quake-Ready?

This week’s big quake – which showed up in a dream for the wife of one of our readers – continues to be a concern.  Bounced off one of our SMEs (subject matter experts):

“Well, the Juan de Fuca plate subduction zone is still locked, and tensions continue (probably, as I have no access to measurements) to rise. Note the recent mag 3.1 quake 30.2 km deep, 26 km SE of Rio Dell, CA. That’s inland a little ways, and deep enough to be subduction plate slippage. BUT, the location is along the far southern edge of the JdF plate. NOT basically inland from that off shore 6.0 and 5.0 that were along the much longer main southern edge. (There is a chunk of the JdF plate that lies even further south than the primary southern edge, in a sort of hatchet shape. The 30 km deep subduction quake was along the southern edge of that hatchet extension. But the main pressure seems to be building further north. A wordy way of saying, sure, a big thump could well be coming for WA and OR. And sooner than later, too.”

And since it’s about a hundred years overdue and since a “talking picture” was said to give a 5-days warning from Monday of this week, we are taking this more seriously than most.

People sometimes forget how dreams “encode” knowledge of the future.  For example – and this is something our reader’s wife will find interesting as hell – ask her “What is a talking picture?”

To anyone with some dream work under their belt the “talking picture” is a possible mental metaphor for…(ready?) Television!

So if you see quake damage coverage on TV this weekend, remember where you heard it first.  And WHEN.  The Future is always almost here.

      • I was just now reading this, and since I had no sleep last night, I nodded off in my office chair here. While I was lightly dozing, I had a quite clear vivid day-dream. It’s very odd and intense.

        I saw a huge “structure,” mostly horizontal, about 1000 feet long and maybe 100 feet high. Extremely complex. Lots of open spaces and lots of small rooms–all different in purpose. Technical rooms. food rooms, meeting rooms, storage rooms, rooms where machinery was running, activity rooms, offices, many unclear in purpose, hundreds of rooms. Some open and airy, and some closed-in and dark.

        There were a few people in each room, and some huge joint effort or process was happening, engaging them all to a fevered pitch of urgency.

        Then, I saw a sort of extremely powerful sparkling yellow-red energy beam sweep slowly from one end of the structure to the other. It was destructive, Each room and its people were consumed–burned up to ash as the beam swept by. All were killed — burned up — horribly, and everything was utterly destroyed. The whole thing took well under a minute to happen.

        Then the phone rang.

        Don’t kid yourself into believing the American voting public got smarter — we didn’t. That’s a process that’ll take a full generation for kids to have been properly taught real American-style civics, which won’t begin to happen until we get the NEA and AFT out of the school boards.

        We got lucky, and the Trump election committee and RNC took considerable pains to ensure ballot cheating would be held to an absolute minimum, this time around. The runup to the 2028 Election will feature many TV ads of “candidates” caught saying incredibly detrimental, damaging, and downright racist, sexist, myogenetic, homophobic, heterophobic, anti-Semitic, etc. stuff — all of which will be faked by an AI so good as to defy detection or exposure.

        What will 150 million voters believe, when they can’t believe either their eyes or ears…?

    I just woke up from a dream this morning. To make a long story short, a lady asked me to get her a “Babushka Moose”. I walk out the door, crossed a street and went in a service door of a fine restaurant. Met by a warehouse guy that just wanted to argue. I asked if he could get me the drink, (Babushka Moose” or if I could walk through and get it. He was a prick so I left quickly, out doors with doorknobs on the bottom of the doors. I heard him say, “You think you’re strong?” Got outside and while crossing back across the street, the brick walls in front of me started moving rapidly. Swaying and circular motion. I thought, Earthquake !! – and woke up.

    Those “made up” numbers are making new millionaires on the regular these days – Economic green shoots as it Is. Everything in modern world is using “made up” numbers, incuding the serial number on Ure dirty ass dollars, and I mean filthy, like the People that promote and support the Slave Script .

    The problem is predicting the 50% from where. Pre-COVID my dental hygienist told me she and her family thought RE prices were bubbly and going to crash again. She and her husband’s (w/kids) big plan was to sell the family house and move into her parent’s basement for a year or two and pick-up a house on the cheap after the crash. Obama was still president.

    They sold the house and soon after she moved on from the gig so I don’t know the final outcome but doubt it worked out for her. RE prices have doubled or tripled from then so a 50% crash today and they’re really no better off.

    We know Trump is an inflationist by the record.

    Now-a-day managers at Panda Express pull around $100k – I posted a pic of the help wanted sign back there in time. The first retort is usually, ‘but that’ll be for more than 40h/week’. Who doesn’t work more than 40h/week to earn $100K annually?

    • Over the road truck drivers for Walmart were supposed to be going to 100k+, with the highest paid group to be getting 125k+, and that was for a 40 hour week with no loss of pay if you got hung up in traffic.

      Think back a few weeks to the settlement of the UPS strike … their over the road truck drivers are going to make even more (not sure how much the delivery drivers are going to make … but imo that is a MUCH harder job)

        Such an altruistic thing raising everyones wages. Not that the alternate meanuing here is the following:

        Automation is still too expensive to replace Truck drivers. Raise their wage, in fact raise the minimum wage as well. In this way, the robotics will be cost competitive. Why would the Pols suddenly after all these years now be pushing for a hike in pay for the hoi polloi now? That disucssion should have been addressd two decades ago.

        • Minimum wage is a farse..in one area it’s enough in another area you cannot even pay for low income housing.
          A dime in a dime out.. the vast majority of us go from one paycheck to another. medical insurance even though you can get it..is out priced for those with health issues ..the expenses for their emergency care placed on those with funds and insurance policies that cover ..prices has to escalate.. the grid and utilities..how they are working it now the cost of general maintenance alone is thousands of times more than a more efficient method ..but it increases the costs of these essential services.
          to go the more efficient route limits the ability of a few to gain more income.
          bitcoin or digital dollars doesn’t exist except in the cyber world. then again the majority of dollars and coins only exist as a number in the cyber world or as a number. during the last depression people buried money because the money in banks vanished.
          no matter which way I look at this I see a Potential nightmare..

    • The only thing that will put the real estate fire out is prolonged very high interest rates, or credit to systemically collapse, like in the early ’30’s. While the entire credit system is on shaky ground, I haven’t seen anything to indicate that either scenario is likely to progress in the near term. The markets are largely sneering at wave counts.
      If you sell property in order to cash in, now is as good a time as any. Selling to downsize is OK, but don’t expect any bargains on new property.

    The official White House schedule of the past couple of days reflects a presidential retinue on the move. In between official engagements and pitstops at the White House, visits of hours were made to the Beach House as well as Wilmington. One imagines the push is on to clear garage space for storage of documents pertinent to furnishing a future Biden Presidential Library.

The President’s “warriors” can now apply for transfer from within the app. Apparently the algorithm is constructed so as to action requests automatically by itself. The update promises no “unreasonable denials”. One imagines volunteers to the frontlines would be readily accepted.

    I read George’s research about Covid-19 from the start. I bought the best mask I could, and later purchased and have used the best masks available, the G95.com which filter to I micron size, every time I out in public.

    I still do a total decontaminate washing and cleansing when I enter my home, after grocery shopping or being in public for any purpose.

    I have researched the worlds best detoxing advice. I have found two that appear to really work. One is a German doctor in Mexico that has every indication of working. The other is a US company. I have now purchased four months of their products both for myself and my dog. I will start marketing their products later this month. I am that sure they have products that work.

    The extent to just how contaminated we are and our world is, is beyond what I would believe, if I had not started to build a solid database of hard fact based information all of it because George spoke so clearly of the danger of Covid19.

    Thank you George, your early research was so extremely valuable. All of us as readers are in your debt.

    • Who knows … by the end of the month you may have some valuable beach front property!!

      Related to that:

      President Polk instigated the Mexican War so as to bring the Southwest and California into the Union. Prior to that War beginning Polk sent John C. Fremont out to California to instigate a rebellion so that California could be cleved from Mexico … at which he was successful, winning battles against the Mexican army in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles with a rag tag group of American “pioneers” who had moved to California at the invitation of Mexico but who wanted to join the US.

      When the US went to War against Mexico and obtained California and most of the rest of the Southwest (later buying some addition land in the 1850’s, the Gadsten Purchase for the planned southern RR route to California) imo it made a MAJOR MISTAKE by drawing the boundary line separating the US from Mexico too far North. (part of the problem probably being the bad maps of the day)

      If we were going to take LOTS of Mexican land, which we did, we should have also seized all the land to the mouth of the Colorado River including the northern end of the Gulf of California (Sea of Cortez). If we had done that what later became Arizona would have had a Pacific Ocean port at the mouth of the Colorado River. Instead the border is 60 miles upstream on the Colorado River at Yuma AZ.

      Can you imagine how different the development of the US would have been if we had a Pacific Ocean port in southern Arizona?

      (in addition the canyon the defunct rail line that goes from Yuma AZ to San Diego goes through Mexico in places because the border is too far north. That southern rail line into California was never successful because every time a train crossed the border into and out of the US, or Mexico, crews needed to be changed plus the track maintenance of that line had to be done by different crews depending upon which side of the border the tracks were on. To which was added the issue of Mexican “transit fees” charged for every train /boxcar that ran on that line.
      As a result of those problems to this day the southern RR route from the US into Southern California is only via Los Angeles instead of being both LA and San Diego)

  11. Art and I never got many comics. Parents didn’t give us any pocket money for trivial stuff like that.
    But we had other peoples comics we could bum to read, and the evening Funny Papers.
    Since we also had the editorial policies of the St.Louis Post Dispatch and the morning Globe Democrat we had plenty to laff at.
    So what we knew in this vein was Al Capps Li’l Abner and its character “Joe Btfsplk.”
    Joe appeared (so says WIKI) on 7/7/1940, and was a well meaning but ” world’s worst Jinx.”
    One way to screw up a conversation was to refer to him. No one knew how to pronounce his name, and everone had their own version. To bring him up just brought the conversation to an end in confusion, since no one knew who the next was refering to.

  12. It is quite possible that if Trump doesn’t go too far – too fast., that we could walk our way right past a recession. Two caveats to that ‘thought’. One] An international event that affects the world and; Two] His tariffs.., as Trump has said a couple of times that he likes ‘trade wars’.
    There is no way to predict the repercussions of either one – way too many moving pieces. His tariffs [ Trade wars ] are coming, we know this – but to what extent and how many countries is still., just a guess. The “International Event” – ? Half a dozen scenarios on that – but still, just guesses.
    The majority of consumers are very delighted that Trump has won, and they could show this “ease of economic angst” by having one of the best Holiday Seasons in years. If nothing drastic happens, it’s the consumer spending that will keep us moving ahead – just like it surprisingly has this entire past year.

    • That doesn’t even take into account the interest on the deficit..
      I have a dental loan that is increasing a hundred dollars a month more than the minimum payment..the only way to turn that is paying more than the minimum payments by two hundred..its still a small enough loan just nine grand but in twelve months if I cannot turn that the interest will double the one hundred to two hundred against the minimum payment.
      this is where the us dollar is..interest was a trillion a year last year.. the year before it was what a half billion..this year its escalating at a trillion every three months next year it will be a trillion every couple of weeks.. its unsustainable.. something really extreme has to happen to turn this around..all the fiat currencies out there know this their whole existence depends on the system staying at where its at..
      or the whole thing could implode..

  15. Laid the red/IR panel on my arthritic legs this morning and was disgusted to find, after 30 min treatment, that three new rows of the LEDs are dark. This after repairing two open LEDs as I previously emailed you about. So now I have three more to find and bypass. Have you or anyone else experienced this kind of failure rate on these red/IR panels?

    Normally $60, there is a $20/off coupon checkbox, so I may get a spare one. But I’m disappointed in the quality of the LEDs they use that keep opening up. If I bypass too many of them the whole think might just suddenly become Dark-Emitting-Diodes…. DEDs.

    • You might consider putting a resistor or more diodes in series with the LED strings to dim them a bit for longer life. Better to have less light for much longer than constantly replacing or bypassing overdriven LEDs.

      If you have a spare variac, you might dial back the voltage a bit. Of course, you shouldn’t have to, but reality is what it is.

      Dark Emitting Diodes! LOL! There has to be a business model there somewhere.

        • Also let us know if your losses occurred on sunny days when your REsystem was outputting.
          I regularly see 135 v act (at the inverter outs) when our system is in sell mode. (*Newbie note, always expect sell power voltage to be higher and this may also figure into Hank’s failure rate)

        • My solar system only sells back 1kwh per month to keep the accounting system alive. Latest LED failure occurred in early morning, 7am, with overcast conditions, so I doubt that is the problem. I have corrected my power factor problem, and my line voltage is good at a stable 120 volts. I might try a variac to lower the line voltage, but that might not work. The panel has a small switching ‘LED driver’ circuit that is usually crafted to keep the LED drive at a constant level, so line voltage dropping may not work at the LED level. Perhaps putting a dropping resistor on the output of the driver will work. Lessee. 45 watt panel, will need a 50 watt resistor… will need to measure the output voltage and drop it a bit. Suddenly the cheap panel becomes an engineering challenge.

          Ah, well, it DOES work for the arthritis. Latest info. from the Orthopod left me with an Xray of my no-gap hip joint with bone spurs around the edges. Surgery now scheduled for Feb. 10. (He’s a popular Doc. here)
