“Thank you for your…” Monday – SurvCam Notes

Veterans Day.  We’ll get to markets in a sec.  But first things first.

Thank you for your Service.

And there’s a long list.  My wife Elaine (who did 3 as an MSTS machine specialist at JBLM Lewis-McCord before it was a jumble).  Brother in law Panama.  My pal of 72+years (The Major) whose PhD-fighter-pilot son has made O5. (The Major’s wife was a Captain but with her being a doctor now, the whole protocol thing is confusing…everyone salutes everyone, near as I can figure it.).

Shout out’s to “warhammer” and Capt. Gooding – both O5+ – they kept their oars in long after, if you follow.

My health conditions kept me out of Southeast Asia tourism back when. But I did a short spell on remote sites in Alaska as a CIV with equivalent rank (O4) when I was 19. Mostly, I learned the fine art of putting occasional checkmarks by my name on the O-club bar tab and running down hallways in the middle of the night to equipment rooms, trying to remember door codes….  (I became convinced that changing combination door access codes was a sure-fire way to break everything of importance behind a steel door.)

Hoo-rah, ladies and gents.  And thank you.

Dancing to the Next One

With the big drone attacks over the weekend (big enough to intrude on Elaine’s dream realms, where she came back with reports of “big fires” about the very time drone clouds were moving), we are not surprised to see the relations with Russia sliding on the press front.

We see, on the one hand, Trump says he advised Putin during a phone call, Kremlin denies Trump and Putin spoke – France 24.  But running the other way is the report Kremlin says reports that Trump spoke to Putin are ‘pure fiction’.  Alas, it almost sounds like we’re sliding back toward the “divided on Trump” divisions.  Brings up the dinner table question: Who do you trust more?  The WaPo which reported Trump’s Putin call, or the Kremlin?  (We’ll take the Kremlin and the spread.)

No way will Trump’s weekend HR moves surprise his supporters: Trump announces immigration official Tom Homan as ‘border czar’.  And less leverage for the neocons as Trump says Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo will not join second Trump administration.

All this summed up in American state media as Donald Trump’s US presidential victory was sweeping

Neocons are ramping up rhetoric even now about Ukraine. 50,000 Russian and North Korean troops mass ahead of attack, U.S. says.  What the story soft-sells is this “attack” will happen inside Russia in the Kursk region.  So we see who’s pushing the neocon war agenda easily enough: Starmer and Macron seek to convince Biden to allow Ukraine to strike deep into Russia.

The neocons are trying to keep up a workflow and tempo that can launch WW III while president Buyed-Harris is still in office. A kind of final insult to voters on the way out.  They still have 70-days to pull it off…so keep an eye on them.

China – Taiwan

Pressure has been holding fairly steady – and remember, the region in still in the aftermath of a typohoon.  Big picturing it, though: China increases Taiwan ADIZ incursions by 300% over past 5 months.

Meandering into Money

For now crypto fans are claiming a win as Bitcoin Hits New Record High After Trump’s Victory.  $82,257 when I looked just now (5:55 AM).

My friend, The Economic Fractalist, was inquiring this morning as to whether there’s a way for Nov. 7 to match up with Sept. 3, 1929 – which was the high back then.

We ought to know more by Wednesday’s Peoplenomics column.  But there is a case for a Global Peak of some order coming in here.  See, we do two Aggregate Indexes.  One of them looks at the major financial linchpins of the world:

That said, in a direct comparison of U.S. Aggregate versus the Global Aggregate you can sure see how the U.S. has been getting just wildly bubbly with the Trump win:

Now, to the right you will see two lines. One if the Global Oscillator *(black trace) while the U.S. is red and just crazy to the upside.

Fortunately, we don’t do “financial advice” but when we have looked at such oscillator “excursions” (OK, disconnects then if it will help) that has sometimes been an interesting place to put on a strangle.  Because over time the indexes do tend to come back together.  The art is getting the “when” right…

And this gets us to the Daily view of the US menagerie:

With the yellow trend (right) broken, the question is  whether the white trace marking the top of the white trend channel will break, too.  We might be setting up for that.  And again, we don’t offer advice…being more like a “translator” who tries to make out what is being “said” so real policy people can go place bets.

News Grindings

Our “news grinder” is larger than the nutmeg grinder int he kitchen. But they do have nuts in common:

Could the Neocons be “working” with the left-of-center press?  Is John Bolton angling for a Trumpist role? John Bolton says he didn’t hear Trump insult fallen soldiers in France.  Sounds fishy to us (Bolton, NYT), but remember, I’m old, and have seen more sleaze than most.

Warming up for the Biden-Iran war continues: US Carries Out Strikes Against Houthi Targets In Yemen.

Stuff Happens in AZ. BREAKING UPDATE: ACLU Loses Lawsuit to Extend Time to Find More Votes in Arizona. Guess Trump really won, huh? Still to come: squeaky wheel protesters and more law-faring, we expect.

And speaking of sour grapes, and all: General Flynn Delivers Bone-Chilling Post-Election Warning.

At the Ranch:  Surveillance Camera Maintenance

Well, I tried, I tell you. With Elaine feeding a bunch of feral cats around here, I’ve been scheming how to be a wildlife supporter and get them all jobs.  After interviewing a fair number, I found one feral cat that was bright, had a good attitude and who might fit into my new “workplace apprentice” program.

So I told him he was hired – all the mice he could find plus a cup of dry kibble per day.

Now, I’m going back into the (palatial) Urban/Peoplenomics office and I want you to climb up that pole over there with the solar powered security camera  and clean the camera lens and also wipe down the panel, got it?  I’ll watch you from inside…”

Meow.”

5-minutes later he was fired.  “I hired you to climb all the way up, not just what you “feel like…” I explained.  I’m expecting a cat action lawsuit.

Another oddity from the camera network today – one hell of a photo composition by one of our fuzzy hunter spiders on this camera:

I mean, frankly, I’m impressed!  Going to the Waterworks IBC tote and getting it all to lay out under nightvision lighting…my God, impressive.

Move over, Charlotte.

      • Lady E must have been standing downwind of your Ureieness when she made that quip ! ahahahahah

And hear I though cat pee was nasty..

Hey Chief – what do you guys& Gals know about Wash Sale Rules and how Best to avoid coming afoul of them come Tax time ? 2nd degree Ass burns from Slaughter of the Elves period – I was a lil manic in Selling and Buying SPY Puts at the time, and it came back to not bite me in the ass – butt about 50% buttock reduction (1 Cheek) that “uncle janet” STOLE. This was back in day when you could actually call the IRS and talk to someone, not that got me anywhere – pre covert19 obviously.

        • Don’t apply to Crypto. For Crypto you can sell to get a loss on the books this morning, and buy it back to start the holding period running again for LTCG in the afternoon … but that is a revenue hole I am sure they will fix for next year.

Also do NOT apply to Futures … in fact for Futures you don’t even need to list each buy and sell, the brokerage firm will net them all out and at the end of the year send you a special 1099 that nets everything and gives you the 60/40 split for long term /short term gains to report (for Futures there is an automatic classification of part of the profits being long term gains even if you only held the item 15 minutes)

Every year Wash Sales Rules trip up LOTS of newbie traders. For options be sure to change the strike price or expiration date for each trade if you want to be an active trader and want to avoid the Wash Sales Rules is the only thing I figured out over the years (there may be other ways to do it but I never researched it enough to figure out since I stopped trading options many years ago)

  1. Dems are now floating an idea about Harris’s future …

    https://www.foxnews.com/media/justice-sonia-sotomayor-should-replaced-kamala-harris-cnn-commentator-argues

Putting Harris in with the Supreme Court Justices would be worse than putting Pee
Wee Herman with Plato or Socrates while they’re trying to write philosophy. I don’t believe our SCJs need to be constantly distracted from their respected responsibilities by Harris laughing hysterically and talking her psycho-babble word salads. – Not to mention her power trip when she holds a pen of authority.
They don’t need to be burdened by what has been … nor do we.

  2. *Typo of the year*:

“Pressure has been holding fairly steady – and remember, the region in still in the aftermath of a typohoon.”

    LOL! Good report though!

  3. Yes today is a day of remembrance! My dad went into Europe on D-Day second wave to string pole lines for communications. Always on the front! He and some of my shipmates that didn’t return are always in my thoughts. Thank You!
But is also a day of thanks as my wife and life’s companion turns 76 today and joins the Elders of the Nation. I also thank her for being my Partner in life’s journey.

    Blessings to all.

    • Oh my.. and he survived.. god bless him..
one of the gentlemen living in our spare room survived.. he never spoke much about it.. he only liked to talk about the good things.. how the French loved wine and cheese and dancing..
when he spoke up was watching either the piano player or schindlers list.. anyway they showed some that were rescued..he was one of them that liberated the prisoners.. his only comment was.. with tears in his eyes he said..they didn’t look like that. they couldn’t even eat a teaspoon of food..

  4. Hi George, my wife has special dreams, unlike me who never remembers dreaming, she woke this morning and said she had an odd one last night, she was walking and saw a picture on the ground, she picked it up and it started talking to her, she said to the picture, wow your talking to me, the picture said “I have been trying to warn people that there is going to be a big shaking in five days, please warn everyone”. Don’t know if it means anything or not, just thought I would share the info. – not sure if an earthquake or major event (or nothing at all)

  5. Thanks George, keep up the great work.

SpidySense is something else … I recall watching a spider spin its tramp thinking ….. how they know how to do that?? …… useless waste of my time? maybe …. about as useless as waiting for the market “crash” ….. LOL

I recall all the articles and “smart” folks pointing out that when the Fed cuts rates, its a sure sign things are headed down, “its never failed”, if I recall reading right ……. still waiting for that one too … LOL

hang in there … new Pres or not …. life goes on (maybe) and winter soon here, prep as so desired

    • .., you did not “recall right”.
” I just report the history – not invent it.”
Six out of the last seven times that the Federal Reserve reversed course and started cutting rates after a series of raising them – the stock markets has sold off – sometimes as high as 48%.., and those sell-offs started 60 to 90 days after the first rate cut.., so we have a couple of months.. The one time that it didn’t drop was in-part due to Clinton’s banking policies which allowed big banks to grow virtually unchecked – into what we have today – Mega Banks. The banking index grew over 40% that year [ largest one year rise since the end of the Depression.] – mainly on F.O.M.O. which dragged all the other indexes up with it. – which is what is happening right now. The current blow-up rally has no basis in reality – the vast majority is F.O.M.O. and political-relief that Harris didn’t win.
      – “.., and this too, shall pass.”

  7. “Anyone hear from Bruno in New York lately? Hope all’s well with him.”

Hi my friends, I saw Bruno just recently when I glanced into the mirror. He seems to be doing very well, thank you. He looks abt. 20 years younger in his face than you would give him credit for; The girls that take care of his well being are abt. 50 years his junior, and he sounded pleased with his condition. He wishes all of you a similar fate ;-) to be your future.
It rained last night in Manhattan for the first time after several month of a dry period. We needed that because we were just short of rationing water use. Anyhow, as Andy always used to say “I’m really blessed” and part of my prayer goes for all of you. I’m sorry that I have to limit my contribution to this forum. I’m very much into watching nature display its beauty and forget about guessing about the future.

  8. There is (was?) a newspaper published in some Pacific Islands years ago in Pidgen English (sic?) The headines were often pretty funny. My all-time favorite was: “Big Fella Talk-Talk: Him No Talk True.”

A Talk-Talk is a speech of some sort, as opposed to simple talking. The rest is pretty self-evident as to meaning.

(Aparently, the ediorial staff at the paper found the official’s speech unconvincing…)

Now, if we could just get some American papers to adopt Pidgen, we’d be way ahead.

    — 30 —

        • Not gonna happen. Nobody will pay to hear the Leftist drivel, and the stations get tired of subsidizing them to get a paycheck from the Rightist drivel. 35 years ago I’d listen to Rush Limbaugh and Jack Anderson (EiC of WaPo) back to back. As soon as “fairness” became an ideal instead of an enforced mandate, Jack (and all the other Libs except Alan Colmes) went away, because nobody would spring for Ad-dollars for their shows.

  9. Trump’s expulsion of illegals.

Just thinking about this over the weekend as to some of the apple carts in the economy that could potentially be upset.

To start with … certain jobs that virtually require illegals anymore, some agriculture but a LOT of chicken /pork /beef processing facilities for sure. Add in roofers, and small firm construction workers. Basically the hard physical labor jobs are going to have a workers shortage show up in short order, at least until the government opens up work visas for those type of jobs again.

IF they ship out lots of people look for apartment vacancies to climb in the areas where lots of illegals have migrated to, which will lead to lower rents and lower values which then over time migrates up the chain to better and better multi family properties. Ditto with retail space in strip centers.

Just as bringing in LOTS of illegals put large pressure to the upside for certain aspects of the economy shipping them out will reverse that and should put pressure on certain aspects of the economy to the downside.

Of course all of that may get very confused if we end up in a major war situation where the Draft reappears since US Citizens then will be drafted to go fight and die while illegal immigrants will get a free pass on the losing of blood front.

  10. Ah the dreaded “Veterans Day” again. Thanking someone for their service is appropriate for today’s volunteer forces. But I routinely reject ‘Thanks’ for my “service”… for I was the one who got “serviced”. I am a Vietnam-era vet… something I try to forget. We were Federal prisoners, conscripted cannon-fodder who had no say in our future. Even with my ultimately high draft number (366) that said I was not going, I was unable to find a job to support myself. Blatant, in-my-face discrimination as prospective employers, one after another, told me they would not hire me as I was ‘draft eligible’. Yes, it was a very different and divisive time in America then. Ultimately I had to enlist, because there was nothing else I could do. I was smart enough to get what I wanted from the military…. digital electronics training, and get out with my life. But don’t thank me for the life disruptions it put me and my cohorts through. Some didn’t come back home.

    • A couple of weeks ago, I sent the following to everyone on my email list. Subject: Something has changed.

I hated the Army during the six years that I served, and I think I can truthfully say that I still hate it, or the memory that I have of it.

Even so, after I got out and came back to an openly hostile country where people treated me like I was less than the dirt beneath their feet, I felt proud to be a Veteran. After all, I had done something that most my age didn’t do and would never do.

That has changed. Today I burned the baseball cap that identified me as a Veteran.

I won’t try to explain why due to the complexity of the issue. Even if I could explain adequately, I believe that very few, if any would be able to understand.

      • There were still yard signs in Virginia Beach/Little Creek area that read “Dogs and Sailors Keep Off” in early 80’s when I briefly went thru the area.
Yes there was Underwear check at door for every Male that entered the semi private club in VB
Funny how vets were considered-called out as “baby killers” back then, but their offspring are now the CHAMPIONS of slaughtering new borns .

  12. Swedish dinner buns.

    3 potatoes
    water to cover
    Salt 1 tsp
    Egg 1 pc.
    Potato broth 1 cup
    Yeast 1 tsp
    Sugar 1 tsp
Flour 2 cups ( give or take a tad)
    Vegetable oil for frying

boil the potatoes drain keeping one cup.
mash the potatoes add the egg and mix it up salt
add the yeast and sugar mix with the potato water
then add the flour making a bread dough.. cover it and let it rise for an hour.
knees on a floured surface separate into balls flatten and deep fry.
ok there’s a lot of possible changes from making smaller balls and flattening them to make potato bread dumplings or stuffing them with varied ingredients. you can add onions green peppers to the dough cheese your the boss with what you like.
then there’s pizza rolls.. the dough can be baked to..pizza rolls are really good..
it makes great bread sticks to..

  13. A late day ‘thank you,’ George, for you stalwart First Amendment exercised patriotism. You call ‘em like you see ‘em, a rare talent in a woke, me too clouded world. The Founders would be proud of you, sir. I salute you!

  14. re: “Thank you for your…”

    Folks,
It would appear that on Nov. 1st veteran Ukrainian mountain climbers Balabaniv and Fomin successfully summitted the 8000+ meter Ama Dablam peak in Nepal. The pair domiciled in Eastern Europe named their new route via the West Face after a friend who died fighting at the war front. Apparently choosing between climbing the mountain or fighting in the war was “a difficult decision” for the pair.

George Clooney taking step back from politics after being made a ‘scapegoat’ for Kamala Harris’ loss

George Clooney feels he is being used as a ‘scapegoat’ in the furious blame game over who could have cost Kamala Harris the election – and will now take a step back from politics. Clooney has since been criticized by Democrats for his influence during the election, with some claiming Harris’ loss was his fault.

Yes, even San Francisco swung toward Trump

Although results are far from final, it’s clear that like other blue states, California shifted to the right. It’s only the second time since 1984 that Californians have given more support to the Republican candidate than in the previous cycle.

  16. Border Patrol agents’ morale soars after Trump’s re-election: ‘Through the roof’

Morale among Border Patrol agents is “through the roof” after the victory of President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday, and some agents planning on retiring have already reversed their decisions, the union’s president tells Fox News Digital. “We’ve received hundreds of calls, texts, emails, just saying how happy the agents are.”

  17. Dear Europe: Please understand how potentially transformative Donald Trump’s landslide victory is

This election marks the end of the neo-liberal economic paradigm and globalization, for while offshoring expanded global wealth and made China a manufacturing powerhouse, it also gutted the industrial base in the US and undercut the once independent American middle class.

  19. Disney Cruise Ship Rescues 4 From Sinking Catamaran 265 Miles Off Bermuda Coast

A Disney cruise ship came to the aid of four people stranded at sea after their catamaran began to flood, hundreds of miles off the coast of Bermuda on Sunday, according to officials. The incident took place about 265 miles off the Bermuda coastline after a gasket was blown on the escape hatch of Serenity, a 50-foot catamaran, allowing water to flow in. The Coast Guard put out a broadcast seeking help from the nearest ship. The Disney Treasure, a cruise ship that happened to be about 80 miles from the Serenity’s location, answered that call, Bills said.

    https://www.theepochtimes.com/us/disney-cruise-ship-rescues-4-from-sinking-catamaran-265-miles-off-bermuda-coast-5757889

The radio report on this stated that the cruise ship arrived about an hour after receiving the distress call. D’you suppose Disney is running their ships on fairy dust now…?

    • A cruise ship that can turn from whatever orientation it had and move at 80 mph to get to the sinking cat in an hour? Amazing!

      • Walt’s Pixie Dust was a wonderful discovery.

Obviously the ship was sprinkled with it when it was being built. There can be no other explanation.

  20. And here we have yet another example of education dumb down in the USA. It matches well with the two examples I saw last night when two young women were asked who we fought against in the Revolutionary War. One answered “slaves” and the other had no answer.
