Life on Holiday “Hold”

G2 wandered through at quarter-to-four AM – on his way to “Cheat the Devil out of some Souls” in emergency medicine – some people actually have to work today…

(I’ve already done the prelims…)

Highest level view is America is not at Work and not at War.  A good start.

Still, political bullshit flows nonstop, 24/7:

Markets and Overseas

Lemme see: We are still Replaying 1929, still eyeing a July 27th “hot date” for a shooting war (a kind of Guns of August without “delay creme.”  And the hysterical coinster-hypesters are working today.

BTC – around $26,400 at this ungodly hour – is still nothing but a “made up number.” Notwithstanding, Crypto is a “Cause” and since we’ve already done the defining work on Cause Economics (as a virtual signaling scam which wastes energy but gives billions something to do…)_ Bitcoin Dominance Soars to 2-Year High as BTC Maintains $26K, provides additional entertainment.

BTC – for now – is telegraphing a small blip up at tomorrow’s resumption of the U.S. bubble mania. Because as of Friday, we were still in the range where the large (yellow) Wave 2 could collapse in a heap:

What’s more, we STILL have plenty of upside potential since we are 250-days into the long wave “Wave 2” relative to the November 8, 2021 high in everything.

We can wait, thanks.

However, a downside resolution is possible because?  All the European colonialists were down half a percent, or more, earlier. (Germany, yUK, and viva!)

ATR: Checklists and Projects

Want to get more out of Life?

I mean besides turning on the ham radio to remember ARRL Field Day is next weekend, and the King of Spain hosts a single sideband voice contest?

Been in the habit for years of keeping a daily activity checklist.

Got started when a buddy of mine, Terry R. in Portland was working with me and the this was the first thing he did with his coffee in the morning.  Made a personal “hit list” of everything (major) that was desired for the day.

Being doing it ever since.  Since watching Terry’s list evolve was back in the days of Borland Sidekick,  the TSR – popup text tools -are perfect for the task even now, 30-years later.

My “gotta make happen” list is nothing special. But, it really sets up the day.

Kind of like a variable chores list.  When things are done, simply highlight and click the strike-out button on Microsoft Sticky Notes.  (See the Windows Store if you don’t already have it pinned to the taskbar

If you drive Linux, ganderize The 6 Best Sticky Notes Apps for Linux (makeuseof.com).

And Mac usrs might consider 5 of the Best Sticky Note Apps for Mac – Make Tech Easier.

Bottom line for me (and this is a good day, being a holiday and all) is that multi-tasking is NOT something people do.  We have one brain, not 16 cores.

As a result, what people can learn to do incredibly well is task-switch.  High performance people love high-speed task-switching. Shooting an instrument approach under the hood is a great challenge.  So’s passing going into turn #3 at Laguna.

Task-switching issues scale.  On a holiday (without my List) I could lolly through the day, making up excuses and reasons for an hour or two for each task.  Which is why many people don’t get much done in their lives.  They just meander to wherever their attention lands – and that’s it.

Around here, coffee and sunrise and “the list” – even “retired” – helps to ensure we can still differentiate between the “important” and the “urgent.”

Phones, as we figure it, have not helped much.  They tend to bring in more distractions than feed well-defined plans.

Wait!  I just came up with a great science project to prove this!

I’m going back to bed. Maybe with a few minutes on 3806 lsb along the way.

Write when it’s all done,

  1. George,
For future article, could you summarize your experience with Medicare. I’m turning 65 in 90 days, will get A, B, D, and G. Know you’ve had work done and when you fell off tractor. I’m in North TX too. Your shop is the perfect size, I’m selling 2 Leadwell CNC mills and buying a 3d printer, and a laser etcher, “Thunder laser” from your neck of the woods. See market repeating 1987, 98, and 2008. With Fed pausing 2 or 3 times, then Lowering and that’s when the Crash happens. The pause is what starts the watch out below timer.

    • On the list – Medicare advantage plan with a good outfit (Christus-Trinty via United Healthcare) is a sure-fire winner for us. Only minimal co pays of about $4,000 for two total hip replacements – can’t beat that with a stick.

“Compared with Democrats, Republicans have mastered this form of gutter politics. One example: Right-wing political figures have mocked Paul Pelosi for being attacked, spread baseless conspiracy theories about his personal life and used the incident for applause lines at campaign rallies.”

        • if Trump was not a threat to the ‘corrupted’ federal bureaucracy, they would not be after him for a non-crime by a president. It would be a crime IF he were not a president.
Biden was not president when he stole papers, go get him!

          quote your lying/truth stretching source,

big fuckin ‘IF’ there aunt c. , past presidents all have kept documents, the feds are pissed because Trump has documents about their crimes. It is not that he has docs, but it is evidence He is making them come after him to retrieve them.
Q asked, ” how do you get evidence into court?”

        • i shouldn’t have been so tart.. but dam you remind me of my sister.. she gets almost as much as I do in a year every month.. her healthcare is almost free.. and she doesn’t have a clue on real life of the laboring class..
a friend of mine is a govt employee he is getting what either eight or ten weeks of vacation a year.. half a year off.. not counting all those federal holidays.. you can go to the medical center and at 3.30 go in all the lights are down for the night and no one is there.. they run out the doors.. that is why the VA healtcare system gets such poor marks.. they need to run it like a medical system not a govt facility..
I didn’t have a holiday off in almost forty years.. I have people living in two of my spare rooms that lost everything.. the favorite one was the guy that lived in a dumpster behind a business. the can man.. the next favorite one was the guy he raise racing horses.. knew all of the ponies at the kentucky derby.. knew them as a handler and care taker.. he lost his farm his business and his rental house because his wife got cancer.. they took it all.. my physical therapy when I got sick was everything I had in savings.. everything.. the wife lost her job because of the yearly witch hunt.. number one and they were trying to get me and her off of the company healthcare policy.. she had had a minor stroke.. we went a year without an income.. couldn’t get any assistance .. it was horrible.. she like wine so I learned how to make it for her..
life isn’t that good for the regular workers in this world.. they don’t get the perks that some do.. my sister worked for the govt.. she doesn’t have a foggy clue.. thinks everything is rosey and peaches..
the sad part is if the morons don’t quit this deviant way they are going everyone will feel what the workers do and in not so short of a time period either..

        • “Those subhuman Democrats are at it again, reasonably priced health care for Seniors!”

hmm that is silly..it doesn’t have anything to do with the political party..it has everything to do with morals and ethics and work ethics of all of them..
make it a crime for bribing a politician with jobs money or trips cars or airplanes etc. they should be held accountable for their actions by the very laws they pass they should do as our forefatherand actually write the bills they vote on..read them duscuss them and vote according to their beliefs not table them to drag around election after election..their retirement and health benefits should be the same as what is offered to the people from the departmentof social security their health benefits should be the same as what the laborers get. govt. workers should work the same hours as a wage earner as well .. I didn’t have a federal holiday off in over 35 years.. they should have the same holidays and similar vacation time as an hourly wage earner a week or two and work it as a business not as they do.. health benefits or insurance should be open borders what your offered should be offered to anyone else and we should be able to buy health insurane from other countries where prices are competitive . open the borders on medications as well an inhaler that costs me almost a grand a month is twenty bucks across the border 10 if you get generic cheaper if you get it in countries south of the border.
take a sibling.. their family’s out of pocket deductible is 250 with the golden goose govt health insurance the family coverage cost is McDonald’s lunch money cost.. ours is ten grand deductible just for the wife and the insurance for just the wife is over 25 grand a year i was to scared to see what they’dcharge for me.. copay is 50 for doctor and 200 for specialist..mine is 15 if I see a nurse practitioner or PA 50 for a family doctor 200 for a specialist through if i see someone outside then they cover the first 3 after that I pay full price .. my medications alone is a grand a month a shot in the usa that costs 15 grand can be had in canada for 30 dollars. there should never be a discrepancy like that..most employers don’t even offer a retirement that’s only for the top 10 percent..
congress should punch a timeclock to 2200 hours a year minimum work monday through friday..no unlimited credit or cash cards no free lunches they should be working for the people not the oligarchs.
as for those corrupted by open graft. just the circumstantial evidence today in the wastelands would get them life in prison not a 25million dollar mansion at almost 10 grand a night and a protection team..
it truly says a lot when agencies sworn to protect the citizens can basically tell congress to kiss their ass their job doesnt have consequences they can do what they want when they want..
now no one for 2.5 years said one word about what has been going on. nothing about insider trading the graft or corruption..not one.. this is just a campaign pony show to gather votes for their lucrative positions..
people all over the country sees this they feel helpless and because of the terrorist actions of abuse destruction looting a nd violence and defunding of police in high crime areas has just sent people to get their own protection..
i truly don’t believe that it has anything to do with party.. it’s always about the money..whether your selling access to govt. or allowing illegals to enter or even those marketing their name.
Healthcare should never leave anyone homeless..I see t his all the time..the nursing home should never have the highest divorce rates loved ones should never have to sleep in their cars because they took their homes and all their belongings or their ss benefits.
our elderly community heads to southern Texas so they can get medications in mexico during the winter months..
Bric’s had 4 more countries asking to join to .they are working hard to knock the usa off of our pedestal of power..as we go deeper down the rabbit hole it only makes things worse for everyone.

        • “Right-wing political figures have mocked Paul Pelosi for being attacked, ”

I believe the problem with that whole situation was they tried to associate the attack as a MAGA attack and associate it with trump.. even though the attacked was an Antfa and BLM member and they knew each other fro a gay bar Pelosi frequented .. now was this a gay lovers quarrel..only those two would know ..then the officers cam shot and statement that when they went Paul ran to the attacker..the no alarms going off on an alarm system better than the one I have here at home. I believe that if they had never tried to pin this on Trump it wouldn’t have sparked the public condemnation of the whole situation. now we will never know and personally I don’t care if Pelosi likes to get mom’s off of someone schlock or having him gather mm’s off of his..as deviant a lifestyle a lot of them have nothing surprises me..

      • I wish they were available here..they need to open the borders. a product sold in texas should b we available for new york

  2. Friday I noticed the UPS truck coming up the drive and thought to myself I really need to lock the gate when I come home. It had stopped by the new goat pens. Yes goats, don’t get me started. It was the new driver, Makenzie. I also remembered I needed to get a hold of their HR person who is doing us a real solid with these very attractive drivers. She was by the pens getting all goo goo over the babies and the boys were slobbering all over her while keeping her back from the fence panels. She said Hi, got a package for you and jumped up in the truck with her red ponytail bouncing and came out with a big ass box. I tried to take it from her but damn near broke my back and set it down. As she drove away I noticed the return address was from the company I retired from, the second time, 6 years ago.
When I finally got it inside the shop I opened it and it was a bunch of crap I had sent to corp archives. Pictures, plaques, framed stuff. You know, Crap. On the top of said crap were several books, one of which is The Einstein Factor. A self improvement book that I admit at first glance I thought was a book about Einstein but learned otherwise and would read it when I had down time in the office. Read it again over the weekend and I found the section detailing image streaming to appear a lot like some of your Dream state work. The wife saw it and said something to the fact I am a weirdo or something or other. Oh yeah, don’t forget I’m adorable too.
Now I have to figure out what to do with the rest of this Crap except for the photo of my graduating class from the police academy. How the heck did that get in there.

    Stay safe. 73

    • This is an Amazing Coincidence! Because in a June 6 column on Urban https://urbansurvival.com/on-ancient-humans-and-modern-markets/ I wrote

“I’ve been doing a lot of research lately into the mechanisms behind such previous civilizations and there is a technique by which utterly astounding breakthroughs MIGHT have happened and then disappeared without a trace.

Monday I was consuming the book “The Einstein Factor: A Proven New Method for Increasing Your Intelligence.” (Wenger & Poe, 2018 available on Amazon.)

      • Neat. My copy has a 1996 copyright date. I have not lurked about in the comments section as often as I used to and see what I missed. The image streaming got my attention. A couple years back I would lay in bed and random images would just flood my mind like a high speed photo album. This went on for a while until I started to try and pay attention to what the images were. Mostly places I had seen, some good but most not so, and people I knew or still were around. Again, some good but mostly not so. About the time I started to see patterns the streams seemed to be less frequent. So now I think it may be worth a try to slow these images down and describe them in detail as the book outlines. When I can find time that is. I’m a little rusty with my time management since in my old age. If it aint fun, don’t waste time on it.

        • After work in the shop yesterday that involved about a gazillion 1/16″ holes in pieces of 1/2″ pipe my old eyes were really tired. I rubbed my eyes when I took a break and the image I saw after looked just like a blank white TV screen, down to the enclosure around the edges. May be on to something here, or maybe the wife is right. I am indeed a weirdo. Adorable but still a weirdo.

      • Jim, a gazillion 1/16″ holes in 1/2 pipe? Is it air injection for a woodstove or some new gas burning device(I won’t tell the EPA)? Regardless, it sounds interesting.

I’ll be reading The Einstein factor”! Yesterday I got really sleepy just after noon and laid down for a rest. I went into a fugue state and saw eyes closed scrolling runes, or so I thought. I’ve seen them many times – sometimes with eyes open. I looked more carefully and they were not runes, but English words scrolling, like on a screen. They were very sharp and distinct, though there appeared to be no sense to the words. I don’t remember any of them, but I’m wondering what this means – especially as we approach the solstice. I was in a dark room at the time. There’s a good feeling attached to these states and experiences, though I have no idea of their significance. I wonder what it all means.

    • I have to get a frame.. my 7 year old grandson is madly in love with wednesday Adams..( the actress on Netflix show wednesday) so I wrote her agent explaining how he was her favorite fan.. what would an autograph cost. today in the mail was a photo lol.. I write to see if they’d write a note but won’t know for a while..
now thats nice he will be in love forever lol lol

      • The actress is Jenna Ortega. She’s 20 years old and already almost an “A-lister.” I’ve been watching her since she was 12-13 (she’s a Disney kid) and at that age I was blown away by her talent. AFAIK she’s a good kid and not yet spoiled by leading the credits, but the Hollyweird lifestyle is, I fear, going to break her. My daughter (who has actually paid attention to her career) says she’s already a top “scream queen,” so move over, Jamie Lee…

        • oh my..my little guy is absolutely love struck…I can’t wait to see his face once I get it framed for him…I was so shocked to get it..and they didn’t ask for a dime..
I once was walking through a bookstore and seen stephan King signing books..I had one of his in my hip pocket .. ( I was buying different books) and he signed it for me.. a few years ago I seen that old paperback with the cover page signed and remembered a co-worker that loved his books had all of them.. so I bought the book new had the cover and back mounted with the autograph it looked sharp..she almost cried when I gave it to her.. lol and it cleared up one more book to dispose of.. John Grissom is a really nice guy to.. I gave my dentist his copy of the book the client..called him on a rainy Saturday morning.. a Co worker had stood in line for hours to get his autograph..she offered to let me read it..I said no six months later she asked me if I was done with it..she thought I took her book..so on that Saturday morning I was reading and seen he was from a small town..I called the post office to get his address and the postal worker asked me why.. I told her the story and said I didn’t want to loose a friendship over a stupid book..she said you need to give Johnny a call..then gave me his phone number. just tell him Margaret said to call him.. I did and he had me call his secretary Bonnie on monday..he was moving and was afraid if I sent one it would get out but if I’d be willing to pay for it he would send me his personal copy..needless to say my nurse friend found hers and I had his copy of the client.. in the meantime my dentists wife lives his books and is a great fan so I gave him the copy and a bottle of wine to him for a gift to her..

        • FWIW I also believe Skye Jackson has bucketloads of real acting talent. (She was the youngest cast member of Dizzney’s “Jessie.” Jessie was Debby Ryan’s Dizzney vehicle after she did “The Suite Life on Deck, and before she became a Hollyweird producer.

Said daughter tracks the careers of all those Dizzy kidz. I don’t care, because thankfully I haven’t had to watch the damn’ Disney Channel in about 8 years, but I do have to hear about it, every once in a while. When “Wednesday” came out, Mlle. Daughter did a 20 minute “compare and contrast” between Jenna Ortega and Christina Ricci, who was, I guess, the last actress to play “Wednesday Addams,” and whom (I believe) plays a character in Netflix’ “Wednesday…”

    • “Friday I noticed the UPS truck coming up the drive and thought to myself I really need to lock the gate when I come home.”

LOL LOL LOL the ups driver has dog treats.. and the dogs can hear that damned truck four blocks away LOL LOL LOL

  3. George
It seems like we have been awaiting the replay of 1929 for almost 20 years on your site. Perhaps the long wave analysis doesn’t conform to the realities of managed markets?
It seems to me that every possible drop is blocked by large blocks of cash (probably coming from BlackRock) which, in a low volume market can move the needle upwards rapidly.
I admire your tenacity, but after so long, might it be possible to admit that market cycles may no longer respond to traditional measures? Perhaps extrinsic events in the climate or social disruptions may precede your long anticipated drop.

      • Pay no Attention George. Its great to be early. I thought investment in BTC@ $300 per was too early when being a good little lemming and reading about the Mt. Gox hack story breaking. I wont be a lemming again, lessons learned.

When the FRN $ is no longer printed, we will see everything on CBOE hockey stick NLT 2025.

Until then its Just JPM and friends taking losing bets on naked shorting the commodities that joe sixpack holds in his collection, and letting the Fed continue to pay interest on the open position on behalf of JP et. al. in perpetuity.

See , HomeGamers, and you wondered why the global notional value of the derivatives contracts at BIS [likely all OTC] is North of 200 Quadrillion $ ?

        LOL got blockchain? reset ahead.

    • I too, for years, have thought markets are too “managed” and with trading circuit breakers, how will any market really go down hard. Then I look what happen in the COVID crash of 2020. NDX was down over 30% in short order (yes then recovered)…. so it can happen, but only if the Powers to Be allow it (I don’t trust any market)…. so what’s in store this year? anyone’s guess … good luck and thanks George for all your efforts

    • “after so long, might it be possible to admit that market cycles may no longer respond to traditional measures?”

      Of course they will.

It’s not a matter of “if,” but “when,” and the longer the manipulators can postpone the inevitable, the harder the crash will be when it does arrive.

The Markets are like the spring in an antique watch: The spring winds, the balance wheel spins, the spring unwinds, the balance wheel spins. It is simple, elegant, and cyclical. If the spring keeps winding, because JPM or the Fed, or the “crash protectors” grab the balance wheel and keep winding it so the spring gets tighter, it will eventually wind so tightly it forces the balance wheel to pop free and run amok, ruining the function of the watch, or the spring will come unmoored and explode, destroying the watch…

    • Only focusing on market indexes leads to a distorted view of economics and the standard of living for the average American. This country is fairly wallowing in unsustainable debt, with very few paths forward. The fed and treasury are propping up the house of cards with unimaginable amounts of new debt to finance the unpayable old debt.
The country was teetering on the edge of default, and worse, only a month ago. But the congressional robber barons signed off on another round of unpayable debt, the stock indexes went up a little, so those with their heads stuck where the economic moon don’t shine declare a new era of unlimited debt balloon prosperity, and the end of business cycles. As Hemingway’s character once voiced, bankruptcy happens gradually, then suddenly.
Meanwhile, Americans continue being sold into debt slavery, forced to accept third-rate healthcare, then replaced by imported semi-skilled third worlders if they don’t suffer in silence. Pensions are largely a cruel myth for the majority of Americans.
So, what are the potential paths forward?
-The media talking heads promote leftist overthrow on behalf of their deep state paymasters.
-A deflationary depression to cleanse debt is the traditional route. The public and private debt levels may make this impossible without a total default on pretty much everything, public and private.
-Hyperinflation and third-world economics for multiple generations to reduce debt load is Ure last option.
Progressive economics are running out of new victims to finance the balloon.

  7. Father’s Day Shoot-Out
Strapped my range-bag on to the Harley and road up to local pistol range – 12th Annual Father’s Day Shoot-out. Did OK. Came in second., out of twelve. Got to looking around and I was twice as old as everyone there. What stopped me from first place was speed. I beat everyone in accuracy, but lagged in speed. 8 points out of first, and three point above third. What was it Wyatt Earp said: “Fast is fine, but accuracy is fatal.”
I was the only competitor shooting 45acp and the only one shooting a 1911. Everyone else was using polymers and 9mm.
It was fun., but I think my time has passed. Got a lot of strange looks [ What’s this old guy doing here?] from all the “Youngsters”., until they saw me shoot. Then they lightened-up a bit. A couple were visibly pissed that I beat them. Oh, well.
Rifle competition coming up in July – better keep practicing for that. Always some good shooters that show up for that. [ It is a ‘perishable’ skill.]

    • My Bill Wilson 911 is my comp gun … also Colt gold cup national match lV … rock on d’lynn

    • I’ve always been offended by ageism/age discrimination! We’ll all either get old or die young, and anyone with two brain cells should know that. It’s the only discrimination that’s still socially acceptable in society.

We can run the clock and still beat the youngsters at many things, and that’s as it should be. It gives them something to aspire to.

  8. A very successful man explained his trick to my husband. (This was 65 yrs. ago when smoking was cool) He would write his 3 most important tasks to achieve on the inside of a match book cover. Each time he lit a cigarette he was reminded of what to focus on for that day. While smoking he would think about his next step to execute.

and.., 979,000 cars were recalled over the weekend. That has to some sort of record. Various car makers.

  10. I would call the new bicycle an advanced beater rather than a superbike. The frame is TIG welded Cr-Mo and about half the components are Cr-Mo as well. The remaining components are aluminum. No titanium or carbon that I am aware of. The pedals are magnesium. No telling what the disc brake pads are made of. Kevlar shields on the tires are a bit techy.
Components are mid-grade Japanese mountain bike parts. I only have the rear derailleur with an eleven gear cassette, which is a mountain bike set-up. I would welcome a Cr-Mo or Ti derailleur, but that wasn’t an option.
The best derailleur I ever used was a low-end Delrin job, and that was decades past.
Cr-Mo counts as steel in my book.

    feat. T. Veblen

    Folks,

If you despaired of reading in a month of Juneteenth Sunday’s Comrade Zuckerberg’s recommendation of the 4 volume sleeper hit “The Governance of China” by President Xi, respite is at hand.

Last month Mr. Bernanke and a colleague perhaps strayed from the paved path with their paper “What Caused the US Pandemic-Era Inflation?”. The “?” is a nice touch. The paper could conjure up thought of the beginnings of the road to ruin of the Weimar Republic in 1923? The state paid Ruhr workers to stay home as French troops occupied the region?

  12. “Slate offers some forensic genealogy in Was George Washington a father—not to his country, to actual children?”

Too much PC-speak; I couldn’t make it through the column, and after a dozen paragraphs of obfuscatory bullshit, needed to wash my hands and eyes.

“an enslaved man stands behind the white family”

How would anyone know the dude in the frickin’ silk suit was a slave, and why can’t Slate writers say “slave?”

“Bringing his wife, her children, some of the 84 enslaved people she inherited, and her wealth to Mount Vernon, George expanded the house (inherited from his brother Lawrence, who died young) and profited off the labor of bondspeople to make his estate productive. ”

Apparently, George brought neither Martha’s “enslaved animals,” nor worked the land himself, being somehow gifted the title of greatest American horticulturist of his era. This was as far as I could read, although I did notice the tease for the writeup on “Andrew Jackson’s Adopted Indian Son,” which surprised me because I didn’t think the Colonists knew where India was.

    • I worked with a black man named George Washington ..nice guy great color analyst for the phot lab..anyway over lunch one day he and I got on the discussion of his name.. he claimed he was a direct descendent of George Washington his ancestor was one of his slaves and George Washington had her as his sex partner and she bore a child of his..
that was his story on his ancestors.. great story super nice gentleman proud to call him an old friend from my youth and military days in dc.

I personally believed my friend and co-worker..on his old family stories .. A lot of the family stories are passed down from generation to generation..kind of like my berry basket.. and the family burning all the old photos and journals of my great great great grandpa..as a little boy the only thing they would let me take was the basket.. I often wondered if they burned the remnants of Sacagawea’s shack.. it was still there when I was five or six..sadly the only thing that I was interested in was how my great great aunt could hit a coffee can with hew chew spit from across the room..

some people in life want tp travel. some want to make it big. some want to raise a family. some want fame and fortune. some want prestiege. some people want to see the future. some people want to know others thoughts. some people want control. some people crave power. some people want approval. some people want to be the smartest person in the room. some people want to be liked. some people want to rule the world. and some people just want to get laid.

  14. Re: California Dreamin’
    with Somebody Groovy

    Folks,

Hope you’re stoked. Apparently President Biden is winging his way across America today to deliver important news in the Bay Area. Climate change is happening and another $600 million will help in the war against hot air.

After hosing down the sweltering bleacher crowd, the entourage will move to more intimate surroundings. SFGate and Reuters report the President will attend a pair of glitzy evening Party fundraisers. A soiree with a co-founder of eBay and his wife touches wallets to the tune of $6600 a ticket. I don’t know what the other shindig at a Msft exec abode is going for. However msm notes tonight’s DeSantis fundraiser in Sacramento is a steal of a deal by comparison at $3300. Yes, hopefully there won’t be any off-script teleprompter moments with the writers’ strike and all.

By the way, American msm was very accommodating this past weekend. The passing on Spotify of the Archetypes podcast by the Duchess of Sussex memorialized its promising beginnings. In contrast the “Daily Mail” pictured a black-clad Duchess juxtaposed with a Spotify exec “F-king grifters” quote. The ‘Mail quickly recovered decorum with a radiant image of the Princess of Wales in a resplendent green ensemble reviewing her Irish soldiers at the annual Trooping of the Colour in London.

One is given to understand that the Admin teleprompters have been updated:

    God save the Q?u?e?e?n? King!

  15. NOTES?? My list starts off with “Find the Last List”.

Thanks for the Water Inputs from BIC, LOOB and George. Gives me more to consider.

  16. “Can We Make Bicycles Sustainable Again? – LOW-TECH MAGAZINE ”

I didn’t know they weren’t sustainable. My bike of choice is a Viscount I bought in the early ’70s. Its only “sustainability issue” is the gumwalls on the tyres periodically rotting with age, and the cost of said tyres (the Viscount was British) going from $8.50ea a dozen years ago to nearly $85.00ea, last year.

      • I considered the Viscount the best, most cost-effective purchase I had made in my lifetime, up to that point. Its cost in 1971 was midway between that of a Schwinn Varsity and LeTour; its worth, greater than that of the $650 Paramount.

Yeah, replaced that fork within the first few months. Long before anyone knew it was dangerous. It was a gorgeous piece of workmanship, and worthless, and I was an actual rider. The chrome fork and brake pads are the only pieces of the bike that aren’t original. The rims still have the Birmalux stickers and the brakes, the Viscount stickers.

“Despite successes in various races and being named as bicycle of the year in 1980, the marque seems to have disappeared completely by 1982 or 1983.”

Yamaha sold it to Fuji in about 1982. Fuji absorbed it, sucked up the novelties then killed the marque.

A REAL Viscount is lugged internally, so no lugs show at the vertical tubes (the picture at your link is of a Yamaha or Fuji built, and much-less-worthy bike). The frame is something like 2.1 pounds, and the entire bike, between 14-14.5 — It weighed less than the Schwinn Paramount Olympic track bike. I can’t even count the number of 100-mile days I had on that bike… Then I got old.

        • Still got the Italian club racer I bought in high school. Rides like a jack-hammer on the roads out here. When I had it worked on a couple years back, the bike shop told me it was worth ten times what was paid for it. Good quality bikes have gotten frightfully expensive.

        • My “trick” was to jerk up on the handlebars, so the front wheel never went in a hole, and if possible, to jump, to lessen the blow on the rear (the bike came with KKT “rat-traps” and I added toe clips within the first few weeks…)

It wasn’t Italian, but the (Viscount-made) mechanical bits were (IMO) essentially a compromise between the (not yet released at that time) Campi Nuovo Record and the Shimano 600, which is a pretty nice neighborhood for a late-60s / early ’70s bicycle…

  17. “Being doing it ever since. Since watching Terry’s list evolve was back in the days of Borland Sidekick, the TSR – popup text tools -are perfect for the task even now, 30-years later.”

If’fn you’re feeling that nostalgic, Sidekick runs on Win10. Not Borland Sidekick, but its dev offspring, Starfish Sidekick.

    http://www.whanafi.net/Sidekick-98.html

Sidekick actually IS abandonware. Kahn took it with him when he left Borland in 1994 to found Starfish (with his wife), but sold Sidekick to Motorola in 1998, who flipped it to Nokia, who killed it in 1999.

The Sidekick nerds STILL insist it is the best at what it does — bar none…
