Bad Bunny? No – Bad Game.

Now that my apparently (and perhaps deeply rooted) fears of a drunk driver taking out a pole and causing a behind-the-scenes power outage have passed, we can return to pondering the road ahead.

My pillow survived the interruption in non-destructive testing — and cell-level cleaning — once again. So we’re back to the clear skies of Monday.

Markets Turn Lower?

Here’s how today’s market looked through my very unconventional lens in Saturday’s Peoplenomics ChartPack:

“I think we will pull back Monday (which would give us a tick up on this chart), at which time we plan a re-entry to ride the rest of the rally up — likely to the lower gray boundary.”

We won’t show the chart here, but the reasoning is based on state-extreme variance, which, when coupled with Elliott, hints at a bit of near-term downside followed by a resumption of the rally. That move would likely carry us back into the normal range of state extremes — at which point Ure may again move to the short side.

We are, as a world, in that curious quarter-light moment the Anasazi once faced — the point Joseph Tainter describes in The Collapse of Complex Societies, where complexity no longer pays and cooperation gives way to “every man for himself.”

Even so, those of us who saw this coming will still question our own judgment — right up until it’s fully upon us. That’s usually when the Digital Anasazi take to the road.

Somewhere ahead lies the non-trivial risk of a North Korean — or Iranian — nuclear test, likely staged in an empty quarter of the Pacific.

  • Continued unrest and suppression in Iran

If you read closely in Iran could dilute enriched uranium if US lifts sanctions | The Jerusalem Post, you can catch the whiff of “last chance offer” – get it while it’s still on the table. The West is still selling that Iran’s Ballistic Missiles Were Never Wholly For Defense Or Deterrence.. But with the boss Ayatollah heading to China and the carrier Bush showing up in the Med this week, peace is a real stretch of odds making.

  • Ongoing U.S.–Russia–Ukraine war dynamics

Eventually, someone will run out of bodies to throw into the melee, but that’s not here yet. The Death Toll in Ukraine – The New York Times. What may be more formative is how Europe keeps making itself a general target. Ukraine, France move toward joint arms production with new agreement.  As the US distances from NATO, the chances of a BIG Russian push into Europe become more likely, as we read it.

Why it matters:

These are not isolated events. They represent structural pressures on governance, migration, geopolitical order, and economic stability — pressures that ripple outward, whether we’re ready or not.

Around the Ranch: Pillow Recheck

Middle-of-the-night power failure aside, the weekend belonged to football.

Even that went off the rails. National Hangover Day is not something we participate in. You reach a certain age and more things start looking unnecessary — even stupid.

Still, as this remains the high holy day of hangovers, here’s the truth about “football flu.”

The most important recovery tools are rest, hydration, and nutrition. Sleep isn’t optional — it’s when the body repairs tissue, balances hormones, and rebuilds energy stores. Think of it as training for old age, when you won’t need “one too many” because arthritis will have already taken its place.

Replenishing fluids with water, broths, or electrolyte drinks helps restore depleted systems, while nutrient-dense foods — lean proteins, fruits, vegetables — give the immune system what it needs to reset.

I used to favor a mix of V8 juice, scrambled eggs and ham (or a small steak) — something to knock off the rough edges — and then call a time-out until noon or later.

Push too hard, too soon, and you only prolong the fatigue. Gentle walks or light stretching beat heroics every time.

Snooze. Keep caffeine out of the arrhythmia zone.

Here, pillow calls are already echoing in the distance. I’m heading “off planet” again — into the Not Now, Not Here realms — for a bit more shut-eye.

    • The assumption is that the forward deployment of a very large number of cargo planes reported by alt sources are for the Ayatollah and minions, but barring officious confirmation, that is conjecture, not established fact. They could just as well be for NATO reinforcement, or for a new rapid deployment basing initiative. Threats are multiple, I’m afraid.

  6. Picking Bad Bunny for the halftime show was a risky gamble by NFL Commish Roger Goodell. The Bunny seemed more appropriate for World Cup Soccer than the Superbowl. That said, the current Hispanic population in America stands just short of 20%, but it is expected to double by 2050. So Goodell was essentially laying down a parlay on the sport’s future fanbase.

    I’m not a prude, but the Superbowl was traditionally a family event. IMO Bunny’s crotch grabbing and his scantily clad dancers’ twerking all around him were not appropriate for younger audiences. One can’t help but wonder how this will impact next year’s haltime show and Superbowl sponsoring contracts.

  14. Talked to a local in the veggie shop who watched the SB. He was dumbfounded by the poor playing and said it looked fixed. Down here the real guys play in shorts and singlets (wife beaters) without any gear except tooth protection. There are two types of bashing… Aussie Rules on a big oval, and Rugby. Watch either one for a full game and you wonder about how the whole ‘football’ thing survives to hold interest. Both down under games (Rugby is actually globally contested and has huge viewership) provide complete satisfaction for the watcher interested in human toughness. Admittedly, ‘football’ involves lots of momentary high impact potential damage with participants armored to become missiles, but the slowness of the game is sometimes near boredom levels.
    And the translation of the BB halftime would make a longshoreman get offended. But at least only the Spanish speaking kids could understand the pure street filth. So sorry for them.
    Meanwhile, the guy in the veg shop just shrugged and llaughed and said he quit at 19-0.

  22. I have been taking 650 mcg iodine daily for quite some time. After reading the comments on iodine here a couple of days ago, I ran daily dosage requirements by Chat GPT plus. This is what I got back.

    “Iodine is essential, but only for thyroid hormone production (T3 and T4). Most hormone systems in the body—insulin, cortisol, sex hormones, growth hormone, etc.—do not require iodine directly.

    The adult requirement is about 150 mcg/day, and once that level is met, more iodine does not increase thyroid function. In fact, chronic excess iodine can suppress the thyroid or trigger autoimmune thyroid disease, particularly in older adults.

    Japan’s historically lower breast-cancer rates are influenced by many factors (reproductive history, body composition, diet, alcohol, screening). While iodine has been studied in breast tissue, there is no clinical evidence that high-dose iodine supplementation prevents breast cancer, and it is not recommended by endocrine or oncology guidelines.
