Now What?

We’re glad we got out and voted Tuesday. But with the polls closed, and all but the law-faring, protests, and scorched earth to go, the real question is “Now what?”

We are dividing this up into piles:

  • ‘Short-term prior to Jan. 20’ which could be a scorched earth period.
  • The Lawmaker pile – because control in DC just shifted in the Senate.
  • The International pile – which the dems may level into WW III yet, before leaving office.
  • And – of course – the economics of it all which we will model in today’s ChartPack, though with the HUGE asterisk that tomorrow the Fed will be announcing rates and we will find out if dems have another slap in the wings there.

For now, the market (basis the early futures) was set to blast higher. But an outbreak of peace and prosperity (slogan of the old American Whig party in the 1800s)? Maybe not so much.

Remember, structure occurs in the grains of a sand pile just before collapse.  (Kadanoff sand pile model. Avalanche structure and wave shape – ScienceDirect).  We’re not out of the woods, yet.  And the big bag wolves are still hungry.

    My beloved wife, Eda, who passed away some 15 months ago now, often said, “Nice Jewish girls don’t eat Spam.” In more intimate settings, where nobody would be offended, she would add, “..and Really Nice Jewish girls won’t even admit Spam exists.”

    I’m 80 now, and never even tasted Spam before a couplle of months back. I got a can at the food store on a whim.

    So, I bought a couple of cases for the backup prep food stash.

    It’s pretty good, cubed small in salads, and the cats consider a small cube a treat.

    But no keeper cap for an opened can is on the market, anywhere.

    Then, I discovered a reference on YouTube to a product from Hills Brothers Coffee of an instant Cappuccino in a 12 ounce cardboard can with a plastic keeper cap that is precisely and exactly a PERFECT fit for the standard Spam can.

    Perfect. I mean PERFECT.

I’ve heard multiple reports from across the fruited plain the of lefty harridans, wandering about, in disoriented, dazed states, clutching their cats, while mumbling “Ronnie, Ronnie, Ronnie” .     Look for change like implementation of the X Everything app. Biometrics instead of cards. Self driving EVs. Security/military robots and the etc. Power will need to be built out.

    Last night during the victory speech Trump talked a lot about space so look for space to get funded.

    Trump tariffs means $AMZN is a short. Stuff is going to get expensive but people will need a portal to order American made stuff so $AMZN shouldn’t go the way of Sears.

    Softening RE with the mass deportations might offset the new stuff expenses. All the hotels housing illegals and the channel into apartments/rentals are going to go idle. Blackrock may spin-off their rental house portfolio.

    The economic system we’re using is self-bailing and Trump is connected to commercial RE so it’s likely to be bailed. But the sharp corrections beginning in silver/gold and rise of Bitcoin could mean the old system will be abandoned.

    From what I’ve read of old circus strong men, who were the guys that erected the Big Top and moved animal wagons around and such, grip was probably their most important feature.
    Excercises included rope climb, rope.pulls, strength training with sandbags vs dumbbells etc. Things that were hard to grip while lifting.
    Like shop class rope climbing was too dangerous for the kids. But grip in sports like a wrestler or football lineman is still what lets a skilled player control another.

  17. I started working on it last Thursday, the 31st [ Halloween.]. There were no charts to study., no data to transform into a visual representation of facts.., nothing. It was all just talk.., and of course, false claims and nationwide polls based on a sampling of a whopping 218 respondents. Happy Talk vs Doom-n-Gloom.., which was to be ignored as much as possible.
    So., how do you place a bet on something like that? Follow the money. I made a chart based on “Bennie The Book” and his constantly updated odds for who would win the Presidential Election. But., there wasn’t enough data points to consider it legit.., just another wide guess. So, I dumped that attempt also.
    Off and on all day Thursday I tried to think of someway to “read the future” regarding the election and the outcome. I came up empty handed. The polls were useless and actually counter-productive. I had nothing but my gut feelings. Which is what I went with.
    Friday morning, I placed a bet. [ Options / Calls ] that Trump would win reelection. It was nothing more than a gut-level bet. Just $2,400+ gut-level bet that the markets would react to the upside if Trump won. I guess that was actually a double-bet: Trump wins – Markets up.
    I did not expect this kind of “upside”.., The Dow up 1,300.., the NASDAQ up 420 .., damn ! Wonder., would the opposite have happened if Harris had won !?
    I just got out of my trade [ bet ] and did fantastic.
    [ Gold, silver, oil.., have all taken big hits to the down-side – along with all those ‘Green Companies’ – should have shorted a couple of those Biden-Babies, green corporations.]
    One thing I did notice this morning.., the Dow, the NASDAQ, the S&P500, Russell 2000 all of them gap up at the open. Some of the largest gaps to upside I have ever seen.
    .., and the markets do not like open gaps in their price charts. They will get back-filled., how long will that take? I am already looking for / at my next bet – Options/Puts.

      All of the cases and charges are baseless and groundless. There’s talk that Biden should pardon him — not necessary, and were I Trump I’d refuse, if offered. I would want the court system to remove the stain, not have a senile old perv cover it over.

      The only issue is the civil case and, as I said earlier, billionaires don’t go to the store to buy their own clothes. Trump’s lawyers can break her, but a jury might still be sympathetic, so…

      BTW, there’s talk that Biden will pardon Hunter. He can’t issue clemency or a pardon on a case that’s not yet tried and a conviction that’s not yet made. However, I expect Trump will pardon Hunter, when the opportunity arises, simply as an attempt to foster “healing.” It will not heal a single case of TDS, but I expect him to do it anyway. (Personally, I would pardon him, but I’d let his ass sit in da pokey for a few months, to let all the chemicals work their way out of his system.) Child molesters have a 77.8% lifetime recidivism rate. If, after I let him out, he dips it where it don’t belong, just one more time (likely), I would see he spent the entire remainder of his vile existence in FCI Leavenworth, turning big rocks into little ones.

  28. And speaking of grounding… I mentioned last week about taking a lightning strike here at the Volcano Ranch. Reader Ray asked how do you get an effective ground on a lava flow that has all the conductivity of plate glass insulation? I did the following write-up for publishing in the local ham club news letter, as many local friends had the same question. Pardon the length, but here it goes:

    HOW I SURVIVED A LIGHTNING BOLT

    Monday morning, October 28, 2024. A thunderstorm comes ashore at Hawaiian Beaches. At 0523 am a lightning bolt hits my hex beam antenna mast at the rear of the house. I know it was a direct hit, as the flash and explosion were simultaneous. It was like being next to a Howitzer cannon with no ear protection. I sat bolt upright in bed, and down the hall I caught a glimpse of a shower of sparks from the radio room. I was not going to go near the radios with the storm going on, so I laid back down and wondered if my radios had survived… and how I would afford new ones.

    When I moved to this house in 2016 I planned my ham radio station from the ground up, using every good engineering practice I learned in 40 years of being a broadcast engineer. The house is built on a concrete slab atop a few feet of gravel. The rest of the lot is natural pahoehoe lava flow of 1840, with some beautiful ropy areas I saved for yard art. The lava plate was not busted up when the house was built. So how do you make a good lightning ground on a hard insular plate? Look up ‘Ufer Ground’ on Wikipedia for a full description, but I was determined to do the best I could.

    I used #4 copper stranded wire and started at the copper water pipe feed to the house. I laid about 120 feet of wire, dug in an inch or two, right next to the edge of the concrete slab and went 3/4 of the way around the house. Then at every corner, every wet downspout area, at the shack entrance, and at the base of every pipe mast for antennas, I pounded in a ground rod thru the gravel. These only went down 2 to 4 feet before hitting solid lava that I could not pound the rod thru. But there are nine of these short rods total. Also know that a bare horizontal wire makes a good ground also, somewhat enhanced by the Ufer effect of the concrete shedding ions for years.

    Each of three antenna mast pipes mounted on the concrete apron has a ground wire to the loop wire, and it’s own ground rod at the pipe. The idea is that you want a lightning strike to find a straight path down to ground. The same idea applies to every coax and control wire that comes down the mast. Each comes down to a ground plate at the bottom, and there are lightning arrestors at the base plate. From the base plate, the wires are wound several turns in a loop before going back UP the side of the house to the eaves level. The loops act as a ‘lightning retard coil’, providing just enough inductance to stop a fast pulse of lightning, and ensure that it gets grounded out at the arrestors at the bottom.

    Lightning will also NOT turn around and go back UP the wires at the house. The physics has to do with space-charge dynamics of a lightning pulse. Going up would put the current flow into a higher voltage area above, when it is seeking a lower voltage below at ground. So my now-elevated coax and control wires come under the eaves back to the shack, where they come down to the grounded entrance plate to the shack. The elevated wires will not be carrying the big lightning bolt into the shack, but they will have EMF induced voltages from all the nearby fields. So at the entrance plate every coax and every control wire again goes thru a lightning arrestor to ground out the remaining induced high voltages as they come into the shack.

    My three HF antennas come into a rotary antenna selector to the HF radio. There is also a dummy load position, and when I am not actively using the radio, it is switched into the dummy load. This leaves the three HF antennas open circuit at the rotary switch. For the VHF/UHF satellite radio I have several selectors for beams or QFH satellite receive, but no disconnects. This radio remains connected to at least one antenna at all times. But these are small antennas, and as luck would have it they are below the ‘umbrella’ protection of the hex beam above and next to them.

    So at first light of dawn, with the rain stopped, I made the dreaded walk into the radio room, bracing myself for the worst. Powered up the system, and the VHF rig lights up and reads out normally. I tripped the repeater and asked for a radio check, and much to my relief Jim, WH6EMN, comes back to tell me I have a good signal! Thank You!
    I looked at my HF antenna switch and was grateful I had indeed left in in the dummy load position. I powered up the rig and it looked normal. Selected the Buckmaster dipole and the HF noise came in normally on the waterfall, with several other signals visible. I heaved a big sigh of relief. I had just survived a direct lightning stroke! All the theory and ‘best practices’ I had used in constructing this radio station had been tested to the ultimate limits and it all worked like I hoped it would.

    • Your ground system sounds like a rectangular counterpoise. On the Greenland Ice Cap it is nearly impossible to achieve a good ground. The counterpoise spread from the stopped vehicle worked quite well. Of course if the vehicle was moving, keep hands away from all metal parts of the transmitter or risk suffering RF burns.

    I worry about the intensity of their anger.

  30. Europe is not responding kindly to Trump winning the election. One of the largest readership newspapers in Germany had the headline: “F_ _ _ ! Trump !” ., and 77% of Germans’ backed Harris. There is a call for Germany and France to unite in their battle against Trump.
    To me.., this highly negative, publicly announced, media and government reaction to the U.S. election results placing Trump back in the White House would be a perfect time for the U.S. to get out of NATO.
    Let them handle their own squabbles. Why support these countries ?
    Think Trump will take the initiative and act ?
    Personally – I believe we should leave NATO., I am not saying become isolationist., but it is time that Europe stood for themselves and stop relying on the Billions we supply in their defense.
    and.., what would happen to their economies if all U.S. military personnel were to leave Europe over a years’ time? How many billions would be removed from their economies?

  31. I’ve mentioned repeatedly in past comments in this forum that when TPTB’s focus turns to Tether in earnest, bad things are going to happen to the entire crypto space. Tether is overwhelmingly the biggest fraud in crypto overall. I believe that the only reason it hasn’t been exposed to date is that some of the three-letter agencies or other shady government agencies still have use for it. One day, Tether will be exposed and the majority of the industry will be eviscerated. I suspect that Trump will be used to convince people of the benefits of a CBDC and upon implementation, they will ruin everything crypto-related in favor of their new medium of exchange. And there won’t be a choice. Food stamps and retirement bennies will only be paid with the CBDC. Not long after, paper money will be outlawed.

    1 tablespoons Gelatin ( I use this along with the Jello )
    2 tablespoon Sugar/honey ( I prefer the sugar)
    Cornstarch (optional) or powdered sugar. ( I prefer powdered sugar)
    1 tsp of lemon juice optional

    Directions:
    1. Pour the juice into a small saucepan, add the gelatin and allow to bloom for 10 minutes.
    2. Add sugar and place the saucepan over a low heat.
    3. Heat until dissolved and remove from heat.
    4. Using the dropper from the gummy bear mold set, fill the mold with the mixture.
    5. Let cool for 10 minutes, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.
    6. Dust the gummy bears with cornstarch (to prevent from sticking) and keep refrigerated. this step is optional.
