Digital Despondency

Despondency:  “a state of low spirits caused by loss of hope or courage.”

Or, today, a state of low spirited caused by the loss of connectivity for a digitally connected world…

If you have had problems getting into a lot of websites today, don’t feel alone.

Something I’ve worried about ever since I wrote “Broken Web  The Coming Collapse of the Internet” (Amazon) may be breaking out – and we’ll have more in our Peoplenomics update tomorrow.

For now, here’s what’s going on at our server farm:

Hi George:
We have an announcement within your client area regarding the massive DDOS attack we are being hit with. We will update that announcement periodically. Our datacenter is trying to mitigate the problem at the moment. You are going to see network connectivity going up and down while we mitigate this and then see how we can plan on avoiding this in the future.

But it’s not just UrbanSurvival and Peoplenomics that is under attack.

You saw where the head of the Office of Personnel Management dxat proiject stepped down this morning?  Hacks be rampant, heads be rolling.

Go load up http://www.norse-corp.com/ (it will take a minute) but you can see the state of the cyber-war on a near real-time (NRT) basis.

More tomorrow in Peoplenomics…depending on our the DDOS attack is doing…

  1. Norse site live attacks..That’s the funniest thing I ever saw. I’d love to know what’s that target off the west coast of Africa. Poor St. Louis is being blasted to smithereens. lol Also strange is the concentric circles radiating outward from a point then dissipating into cyber space. I think this BS. :>) There’s a sucker born every minute.

    • That ‘site’ off of Africa is a ‘representation’ of attacks on military/government sites . . . earlier version of Norse also had a spot showing military/government response . . .

  2. Despondency: “a state of low spirits caused by loss of hope or courage.”

That pretty much sums it up.

  3. Holy moly! I’ve been watching an increase of activity on the ‘Norse’ site for a while since you brought it up before. And wondered – what kind of action can be taken in response to something like this? It’s not something that can be ‘officially’ pinned on a foreign government, so is the U.S. responding ‘in kind’? I think that it is ugly already and will get worse . . .

  4. I have been monitoring Norse for the last few days. I am wondering what is in St. Louis that is getting hit so hard?

    • I ran a search on you tube for Norse and found this tid bit.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwctmGS_zGw

It basically says the target in St. Louis is the NYSE data center.

I too noticed the target off the west coast of Africa. I also noticed there seems to be a node between the Horn of Africa and the Strait of Magellan that gives and takes.

If Norse is correct, we do seem to be in a fairly large cyber war!
