The strongest verified U.S. mass-casualty cluster still inside the rolling sweep is the Minneapolis apartment-building shooting: two victims were killed, the gunman also died, and multiple people — including responding officers — were wounded.
Atlantic tropical activity remains unusually quiet while the Pacific is carrying most of the weather load. NHC’s accessible September 4 material showed no active Atlantic cyclone while Pacific hurricanes Lowell, Marie and Karina remained active.
Apparently even the hurricanes have moved their manufacturing base west.
USGS’s significant-event feed still shows the recent M6.3 south-southwest of Nikolski, Alaska, and M5.4 near Jiangyou, China. No new very-large quake displaced those events in the significant-event list checked this morning.

Diesel $8.59 in my area ( SF East Bay ) and said to be going up even more. Chevron has actually come out in a campaign and said its not their fault , its California.
So many people dont care because they fill up with Gasoline. Trying to explain how it controls most all prices and they still dont get it. I quit.
Coffee is a great mood enhancer and makes me happy, big cup in the morning, I put my creatine monohydrate and spoon of cacao powder with almond milk or coconut milk, and sometime smaller cup in the afternoon. I will substitute green tea for afternoon coffee, peppermint tea after a meal, and chamomile tea to help relax.
I quit drinking alcohol in 1999, age 28, and my life has kept getting better, one of my grandfathers died at age 47, he was a big drunk, I never met him. I had a lot of fun, and it’s a miracle I survived.
California gas prices high, we have a van with a diesel engine that we don’t drive every day, other cars use gas, my wife likes to exclusively fill up at Costco…

The major cost for Washington is state tax. Far and away. Second only to California.

The price of fuel [ and State taxes ] has a direct link to the economy and ‘live-ability’ in that City State and Region. Putting California’s numbers in with N Dakota – or Washington with Tennessee and then declaring a national average cost is not the true measure of the economy., nor ‘your’ economy.
Where you live plays a huge part of “your” economy – “your” costs – “your” live-ability.

All best wishes to Barbara Eden. Her first appearance on “Rawhide” in November, 1963 as Crystal saw her be double-crossed out of papers by a conman partner. As chance would have it, Tucumcari, N.M. also served as a site for exterior film shots in the “Rawhide” series. The town is situated in Quay County whose name is a nod to shores of the former Western Inland Seaway. It featured in the Late Cretaceous period until a million or so years prior to the dinosaurs’ exit.
Tucumcari Mountain gives the nearby town its name. Tucumcari is said to be derived from a Native American Comanche word meaning “to lie in wait, ambush” as well referencing a Comanche legend about a mother and her newborn infant. It seems U.S. Navy Project 252 established in January, 1964 named one of its hydrofoil prototype vessels laid down on September 1, 1966 as USS Tucumcari.
This prototype led to the six strong Pegasus-class hydrofoil vessels each named after constellations. Interestingly the class and lead ship Pegasus had originally been assigned the constellation name of Delphinus (lat: “Dolphin”; gr: “womb; matrix”). September can be a best month to view the constellation. Allegedly due to apparent difficulties encountered by salty Navy personnel and the letter “h”, the Navy went with a Pegasus moniker instead.
The largest star at the keel of the Delphinus constellation is called Rotanev reflecting a reverse spelling of an assistant astronomer’s name. Until 1859 the star’s name was thought erroneously to derive from the 6th century Roman philosopher Boethius (gr: “helper”). I’m still concerned that the government is using a private entity to acquire and store identity information and verification in a private database with access by many federal and state agencies and who knows how many private entities. It could be a bypass to various privacy laws that only affect government websites and databases. I’m not sure why they did this, and it’s worth investigating. If you go to ID.me, it looks like a conventional commerce website, with advertising and discounts! I personally think your ID should be for governmental purposes only, preferably agency by agency, and not shared with hundreds of commercial affiliates.

Sorry to hear that Ray! Austin is a typical liberal city, an island in a sea of red. The west is beautiful, and Tucumcari has little of the humidity that makes Austin so oppressive. What kind of tour? Is she a performer? I do hope she’s able to replace what really matters without excess difficulty.
She’s the lead singer in a metal band. She’s also part Cherokee and has friends on the Navajo Reservation, so I expect them to lay over for a day on their way to Denver. They toured the Southern States several months ago so I’m not sure why the tour swung back through TX/OK/NM but they’re working through an agent hired by their management now, so I assume the agent knows best.
Too bad they’re not going through ABQ. I know my daughter and some of her friends would probably be interested in such a band, though everyone is so busy these days finding congruent time is quite a challenge. Best of luck to her and her band!

I’ve been looking at property further out on the prairie. A modest house under 1500 sqft, less than 15 years old close in goes for $300K. A doublewide might knock the price down to $250K.
I have done a couple of tours just to look over the rural communities. I am struck by how few commercial retail outlets there are these days in outlying communities. No gas stations, no grocery stores and no general stores to be seen. I occasionally see a dollar store. Resupply is 20 to 40 miles distant, even in older more established small communities. The small post offices are frequently the only thing I could still see open. I suspect many residents are making long daily commutes. I am reassessing my view of viability of these communities under duress.
A house two blocks away just sold for 400,000.00 it cost them 40,000.00 twenty years ago..its insane..
And we have Nothing here..a dollar general ( that I wish sold produce) and a gas station..most of the old businesses are now living quarters the old grocery store is just sitting there for storage.the pool needs to be resigned and no funds to do it..one gas station and the average cost of a house here 350,000.00… a half hours drive to the nearest place..

With a land price balloon fueled by a new high school and middle school, the prices have escalated to 100 to 1 for land local over prices 30 years back. Further out, it is more like 10 to 1. For ag property, buyers don’t even bother to look at structures, ’cause they know they will bulldoze ’em.
The rural communities have become so disorganized, finding a place that even has a weekly farmer’s market is next to impossible. Trying to make a go of it with fuel unobtainable, and no trading partners would be rough. I would guess that you have sufficient LDS resources to get by, but I’m not seeing that sort of infrastructure in the rural areas here. Mostly what I am seeing is debt slaves who must go into the city to make enough jack to pay their notes, and don’t have time to devote to the community where they live.

yes..my life catastrophic events.. really inspired me.. once you almost starve to death.. your view on what’s necessary changes..the events of the LDS moving across the country is in my opinion why the church still pushes it..When people talk about “being prepared,” they often assume it’s easy — just buy supplies, store food, follow a checklist. But the truth is, most folks don’t prepare because they’ve never lived through anything that forced them to…. I’ve said it many times…im pretty open to sharing my life journey…once you almost starve to death, your view of what’s necessary changes forever.
I believe the history of the church crossing the country is exactly why the tradition of preparedness still exists.. the desire to do it isn’t as great..simply because we live in a time of plenty… But seriously only a small percentage actually follow it..hell my wife thought I was nuts..until the year we went without an income..now she helps me…when it happens..everyone..and I mean everyone vanishes..you have the plague no one has any thought about even listening to you vent..even family..( thats why I believe the homeless and the colonies will be the ones to survive.. they live it daily). The rest, like my own kids and siblings, simply haven’t endured the kind of hardship that teaches you what survival really means…or the chance it could happen to them..

One of my employers was one of the real life kids the Boxcar Children books were based on — raised in a railroad boxcar. Hardship shapes people in ways comfort never will….I for one have maybe one or two grinders to many..
At twenty one, I faced astronomical medical bills. No car. On the way home from a hospital visit, the engine threw a rod. I had to walk twelve and a half miles to work in winter weather with no gear. I stuffed newspapers between two pairs of pants and started walking at midnight to make it by seven a.m. Then the plant shut down..the farm crisis. I scraped roadkill hydes for a dollar an hour.. for two weeks… Then nothing. I scraped grain off the ground, beat it into a crude gruel with a rock and a cast iron pan…an experience I hope no one ever has to do.. No heat, no food, no electricity. Our Christmas tree was a branch in a coffee can…we opened the door to an unheated hallway to gather the heat from the hallway..
I don’t tell this for pity. I tell it because people laugh these things off as impossible — “How could that happen?” But it does happen. It happened to me….I have seen and tried to help more people than I can recount going through similar life events..
And when I look at the two little girls who tried to escape the Seattle ghetto — same age as two of my grandkids — the difference is shocking…. If you didn’t know their real age, you’d swear they were in their twenties or thirties. Hardship ages people…stress kills them..Once you lose hope..its over..I have seen so many where hope was lost..one guy I helped his family..they ate the kill that their cat would get and bring to them..they kept the hydes to remind them where they’ve been..
One of our own here saw the lives of African villages and wrote Waterborne — a book everyone should read. His journey changed him. He decided to be the change…god bless him..
I once spoke with a refugee who came here for an education. I said, “It doesn’t look that way on TV.” He told me that in parts of Africa, if you’re in a social class deemed “unworthy,” guards are posted to make sure teachers don’t teach your children…young girls are sold for as little as four dollars… And in a way for an education we do the same here — if you’re too poor to afford education, you either take out crushing loans or you simply don’t get to go. Either way, you stay in your social class… one way your social class distinction is the cost of A loan.. a persons life is crushed or simply not allowed to receive over medical debt or illness..( my pet peeve)
That’s why I tell my kids: go abroad if you can. Learn somewhere that doesn’t lock knowledge behind a price tag…

I was shocked..I can’t even tell you how much I tried to figure out how to stay there..looking at the life I had to return to from that one was hard for me..my life and what I see simply doesn’t exist..
The people that live in those neighborhoods think it’s pure horse shit because they’ve never seen it…and like the decisions being made today..they don’t have a foggy clue..its simply just starting to enter into vision..

that’s us..insurance, the bank loan for the house , a debt for my dental work and taxes..was six hundred more than we take in..I have an auto immune connective tissue issues seizure disorder and am legally blind..my wife can barely walk..cant get the equipment that the therapist wanted..( it costs as much as an escalade) after ten years she finally got to go clothes shopping just today..she’s in seventh heaven.. I had to go back to work..payday to payday..and I’m better off than many many more..

Out in the sticks, I see all these new 3000+ sqft houses, on land that will never qualify for an ag tax exemption. And I wonder if the lords of these manors are sleeping in their cars in the city during the week. Not sure that I want to be in the neighborhood when they can’t find work, and are looking for someone to blame their situation on. Those folks haven’t felt the sting of being unemployed for an extended period, with nowhere to go. I look at all life style and living decisions through that set of non-rosy glasses.
The telecommuting has made work a lot safer for me, as long as the comms stay up. I can retire now, but it will be better if I work longer. I will stay on a cash basis, regardless. Musk’s satellites have extended the range of telecommuting out into the boonies. But I don’t want to be in a community without any commercial infrastructure.
I am looking for another small place a little further out, but not a forty mile drive to a gas station. I figure my taxes will increase 10x or more if I move, regardless. The one thing I do not have on the property I am on is a good source of back-up water. I have the equipment to gather it if necessary, but there are several sorts of risk involved in that, including lead poisoning.
In town, I talk to the retail and restaurant people, who are at the bottom of the economic ladder. Their witness is grim. But they soldier on for their babies. Moving closer to town is out as well.

I’ve seen diesel everywhere from $5.19 to $6.02 in the past week, playing “fetch,” mostly within about a hundred miles of Cincinnati. Indiana’s prices are best, Ohio’s worst; Kentucky is just kinda “there,” since I stopped smoking years ago and am on an alcohol hiatus (cigs and booze are many dollars cheaper in KY because of much lower State sin-taxes.)

Yes. PubMed has papers. They do not support the old “it wrecks your health” story. They do support a few narrow, mixed, or frequency-dependent findings.
Mainstream clinical line (Cleveland Clinic and reviews): ordinary male masturbation is treated as normal sexual behavior, not a disease. Harms show up mainly when it is compulsive, painful, tied to distress, or crowding out sleep/work/partners.

Prostate
The famous Health Professionals Follow-up Study (JAMA 2004, Leitzmann, PMID 15069045): higher ejaculation frequency (sex + night emissions + masturbation) was associated with lower later prostate-cancer risk, especially ?21 ejaculations/month vs 4–7. Not “masturbation causes cancer.”
A 2025 dose-response meta-analysis (PMID 41345847): higher ejaculation frequency protective (OR ~0.83); masturbation frequency alone not significant. Some older case-control work (Dimitropoulou 2009) found high masturbation in the 20s–30s marked higher risk and in the 50s lower — messy, recall-biased. Do not treat that as settled harm.
Sperm / fertility
Shorter abstinence / higher ejaculation frequency often lowers DNA fragmentation and can improve motility/vitality; volume and count drop (you emptied the tank). That is lab quality, not “masturbation makes you infertile.” WHO still uses a short abstinence window for samples.
Mental health / satisfaction
A 2024 systematic review (PMID 38255122): in men, solitary masturbation was negatively related to sexual satisfaction in most studies — usually read as compensation (less partnered sex ? more solo), not as masturbation poisoning satisfaction. Compulsive/excessive use tracks with more anxiety and worse well-being; moderate use with stress relief and sleep. Culture-bound “semen-loss” syndromes (Dhat) cause real distress without a proven biological toxin.

NHANES-type work on sexual frequency (not masturbation-only) shows a U-shape: very low and very high partnered frequency vs mid-range. That is not a masturbation-causes-heart-disease paper.
Function
Men with ED, PE, or delayed ejaculation usually do better during masturbation than with a partner (Rowland et al.). Clinicians use that as a treatment clue, not a harm signal. “Death grip” delayed ejaculation is mostly clinical anecdote, thin as indexed trials.

Explained that the real energy source driving hurricanes is not just warm water. It is atmospheric plasma charge from the wind and ionosphere… ultimately sourced from the solar wind that charges the planet’s atmosphere. This makes a lot of sense. That would lead to strong anomalous magnetic and electrostatic fields in the atmosphere in the vicinity of hurricanes. These could affect humans also.
So today the ‘I-Ching’ ham radio comes alive with this report. The ham is a very intelligent, retired software engineer living off-grid in the jungles not far from me. He was wondering if anyone else had noticed strange geomagnetic and electric field anomalies. He was monitoring with a Trip-field meter and getting readings that were out of the normal range he sees! I did not reply, but it seems to me that if Prof. McCanney is right, those readings could very well be out-of-normal range when we have two hurricanes passing on opposite sides of the islands.
I’m too exhausted to find my Try-field meter and solder in a new battery holder that it needs. Plus I have no historical readings for a baseline to consider. I am, however, making a mental note to contact that ham and get more details and a baseline if he has one. We have electrostatic lightning detectors. Why not a Try-field hurricane detector?
