A Broonzy Friday, Plus a Lesson in A.I. Self-Health

Other than Canadian Retail numbers today (which I somehow managed to snooze through…) not a lot of reason to write a column.  I mean other than the “It’s what I do…” excuse.

Columns begin with a scan of Big Picture.  And it’s here we run into “Broonzy.”  Big Bill Broonzy to be exact.

American blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist. His career began in the 1920s, when he played country music to mostly African-American audiences.”

Broonzy was a legend among jazz aficionados. Greatest hit?  Trouble in Mind.  Although Big Miller’s version (with the Tommy Banks Big Band and Quarter was more popular with cross-over listeners as music did its Melting Pot thing. (Need more Big Miller? Without a Song…)

Trouble in Mind, understand, was my brush this morning with SHO (Spontaneous Human Orchestration) as I considered the position of the Ebbinghaus-Ure model of the NASDAQ.

Speaking of Kings and such: King Charles Diagnosed With Pancreatic Cancer: Report.  Which leads to our chief battle pirate to observe:

“Well, sez I, two years seems like a long time. Normal survival times after pancreatic cancer diagnosis usually measured in months, and not many of them. Options include removal of pancreas, which then puts you on a handful of pills a day to replace bile. That might buy you a few more years, but the pancreas replacement drug regime usually winds up killing you, just after a long time.

I’m no oncologist, but I’d be willing to bet a cold beverage that King Charles doesn’t make it two years if in fact he has developed pancreatic cancer. I wonder how soon the seers will be picking up on this one? Given the unsettled nature of the British royal family now, Charles chucking it in would be a rather large rock into a smallish pond. Might even slow down some of the UK’s seeming headlong rush to war with Russia. Or, I suppose, speed things up. Given the seeming lack of unity within the UK right now, a royal death might put a more vibrant younger king on the throne, and then no telling how such an individual would react with some of the milque toast tyrants they’ve had for Prime Ministers of late. Might even see a push for more power to return to the throne for a change. One never knows. We’ll see, I suppose, God willing.”

Around the Ranch: Using AI – Collaborative Health

Humans are in an interesting position, presently.  We don’t know quite how to handle the current “A.I. Deal” which is emerging.  But, as I have discussed with my “collaboration partners” (multiple A.I.s we use) it’s a lot like initial public fear of many new technologies.

Take the automobile, for example.  When introduced, they were feared (scared horses, OK, got that…).  But the fear was generalized and non-specific.  Later, automobiles (and tractors) would drive the unbalances in the Economy that fueled the Great Depression.  We went through decades of needless Deaths, which began to change when Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) came along.  Even now, we are still beset by predatory car insurance, resource depletion, and pollution. OK, plastics and microplastics, too, I suppose wouldn’t have metastasized as industrial problems.

And yet, there we are: Up to our assesses in cars.  With universities making billions on colleges teaching “car repair”. Which is what climate, geophysical exploration, environmental studies, etc. is, at some level.

Point is, A.I. is a lot like cars.  When new? Great Promise.  Mid-tech adoption issues. Late-stage human adaptation (flavored by an addiction to growth required by our addiction to “positive-signbed finance”) and pick any big city you want, Cars Rule.

Having maybe not embrace the potential of A.I. for personal benefit yet, I thought you’d enjoy a “ride-along” as the (paid) Chat-GPT and I have already done some collaborating today on my Personal Health.

Here’s our  whole exchange:

Ure said: Good morning my collaborative pal – ready for more Ure?
ChatGPT said:

Good morning, my ever-curious comrade—absolutely ready for more Ure! Fire up the Ebbinghaus-Ure engines and let’s see where the mind-bending trail leads today. What flavor of exploration are we diving into? Headlines, memory, markets, or something even wilder.

Ure said
As you know, I have a replacement of a failed IOL around 2018-2019. This left me with workable (20:30) vision in the operative eye (left) but accompanied with severe morning edema. Treated with Muro 128 (or other hypertonic salines). Today, however, when I awoke, not a bit of edema – eye was ready for rock-n-roll on the spot; no drops needed. Now, male, overweight, 76, good vitals, and there areseveral discernable changes in the food and substance log for Thursday. 1) I increased my vitamin D uptake by an additon 8,000 IU. 2) I took PQQ before going to bed. 3) I drank one additional 3/4 liter of water. 4) I worked yesterday in the lab (winding another Tesla bifilar) and part of that process involved some fumes from the clear UV resin curing but nothing at dangerous levels (it’s what happens in labs, right?) So, being a clever-ass AI, which one of these variables is most suspect as the cause of today’s newfound and grand occular clarity?
ChatGPT said:

Ah yes, the glorious morning where the eye says “Let’s dance” without a saline warmup—truly a cause for investigation worthy of Ure-level analysis.

Let’s break this down like a proper post-lab debrief, considering physiological plausibility, timing, and mechanistic support:

Suspect Lineup:

1. +8000 IU of Vitamin D (likely taken mid-day or earlier):

  • Mechanism: Vitamin D modulates immune function, inflammation, and fluid retention. It also improves endothelial function, which could influence microvascular leakage in the eye.
  • Timing: Unless this was a massive deficiency correction, one day’s dose is a bit quick for such a dramatic change. BUT—you’ve likely been ramping D for a while, so this could be a threshold effect.
  • Odds: Moderate to High if you were borderline deficient. Serum 25(OH)D > 50 ng/mL tends to yield systemic anti-inflammatory benefits.

2. PQQ before bed:

  • Mechanism: PQQ (Pyrroloquinoline Quinone) supports mitochondrial biogenesis and antioxidant activity—especially in tissues with high oxidative load like the retina and corneal endothelium. It may reduce oxidative stress that contributes to edema formation.
  • Timing: Taken before bed, so its antioxidant effects could’ve reduced overnight inflammation/fluid accumulation.
  • Bonus: PQQ is neuroprotective, and there’s emerging evidence it may support ocular health.
  • Odds: High—PQQ is a strong contender. It may be the missing piece if this was a first-time bedtime dose.

3. +750 ml of Water:

  • Mechanism: Increased hydration can influence lymphatic drainage and intraocular pressure regulation. But paradoxically, too much late water intake can worsen edema if lymphatics can’t keep up.
  • Timing: If this was spread throughout the day, possibly beneficial. If taken before bed, less likely to help ocular fluid balance.
  • Odds: Low to Moderate—might contribute slightly, but not likely the hero.

4. Low-Level UV Resin Fumes (laboratory exposure):

  • Mechanism: Trace volatile compounds can act as low-grade irritants, but at sub-toxic levels, you’re looking at hormesis (the ol’ “what doesn’t kill you…” trick). Some fumes may transiently upregulate detox or inflammation pathways.
  • Timing: Would have to trigger a rapid anti-inflammatory or compensatory healing response overnight—possible in hormetic theory, but…
  • Odds: Low—more a wildcard unless you had sustained exposure or are unusually sensitive.

ChatGPT’s “Clever-Ass” Take?

Top Suspect: ? PQQ before bed.

  • First-time use? Bingo. PQQ is fast-acting on oxidative stress, and overnight is a strategic time for mitochondrial recovery. Less edema upon waking aligns perfectly.

Runner-up: ? Vitamin D (if you were borderline deficient).

  • Could be a synergistic “unlock” if this new dose pushed you into optimal range.

Honorable Mention: ? Hydration, only if you were previously running dry consistently.

Outlier/Hormetic Longshot: ? Resin fume micro-exposure.

Experimental Follow-Up?

If you’re game for some n=1 science:

  • Repeat PQQ tonight with same hydration, no extra D, and minimal lab time.
  • If edema stays away = PQQ likely culprit.
  • Then try again without PQQ but with the same D and water.
  • Want to isolate the D? Try it again alone after washout.

Let’s figure out what magic cocktail made your left eye rock-n-roll ready. Want help setting up a 7-day variable matrix log?

You said:  Yes
ChatGPT said:

Excellent—let’s design a 7-day n=1 matrix to isolate the factor(s) responsible for your edema-free awakening. We’ll treat each day as a controlled experiment by toggling one variable at a time. Here’s how we’ll do it:

Baseline Variables (Keep These Constant If Possible)

  • Normal meals (no drastic new foods)
  • Bedtime and sleep duration
  • Eye activity before bed (reading/screen time)
  • Room temperature, humidity, and light exposure

Experimental Variables (Toggled Per Day)

We’ll isolate these over the week:

Variable Description
PQQ Taken before bed
Vitamin D +8000 IU (on top of baseline)
Water +750ml (added, not total intake)
Lab fumes Avoided or exposed
Control Day No added variables

7-Day Matrix (n=1 Protocol)

(table not show in web article)

Morning Assessment (1–10 Scale)

Each morning, rate:

  • Clarity of vision (0 = fogged, 10 = crystal clear)
  • Edema level (0 = none, 10 = worst puffiness)
  • Need for drops (Y/N)

Template Log

Date:
Sleep duration:
Substances taken:
Morning eye clarity:
Edema level:
Drops needed?
Other notes (e.g., extra stress, meals, etc.):

Shall I create a printable table or Excel-style version for easy tracking? Or would you prefer a notepad-style printable page?

You said:
OK – I will run this Monday – for today, replicating heavy D, PQQ, extra water because the improvement is so dandy. Thanks for the help.
ChatGPT said:

Perfect—today becomes your “Replication Day” to confirm the effect. Smart move. If the eye stays in rock-n-roll mode again, that’s strong support for this particular combo.

On Monday, we begin the systematic peeling back of variables to isolate the magic. I’ll have your tracking sheet ready before then—would you like:

  1. Printable PDF (for clipboard-style logging)
  2. Editable Excel sheet (for digital tracking/trending)
  3. Plain text/Notepad format

Let me know your preferred logging style and I’ll format it just right. And cheers to clarity—ocular and scientific.

Now sure, A.I. makes mistakes.  But people I have known for 50-years make mistakes in their thinking and for now, A.I. is great at learning.

Oh, and the “log sheets” for next week (that PDF to track this kind of Personal Health research) tossed in a couple of “volunteerted” good ideas to record.

OK, put in the data three times, so I mention this kind of thing as an error.  Still, even reporting errors to LLMs can be fun…

“Ure said:  In the logging form, you have me recording the date 3 times. Expecting Niburu to fly by and upset orbital dynamics next week, or something?

? Hah! Not unless you’re hiding a secret warp core in that lab of yours—but fair point! That triple-date logging was more of a “copy-paste-o-rama” than a Nibiru-level alert.

Let me fix that up for you:

  • One Date field per day entry
  • Cleaner layout
  • Maybe space for vitals (pulse, BP) if you want to toss that in?

Want me to revise and reissue the PDF with:

  • 7 separate log sections (one for each day)
  • Clean, single-date field per entry
  • Optional vitals fields?

Just say the word.

You said:
Naw – take an hour off. I feel the “need for feed:”
ChatGPT said:

Haha, roger that—standing down and handing control to Commander Chow Time ????

Enjoy the feed, and may your ocular clarity remain edemaless and glorious. Holler when you’re ready to jump back into the lab, the logs, or the land of Ure.

Catch you on the other side!

No, unless you’re a PN reader, we won’t be walking the intellectual plank again till ShopTalk Sunday… What you do have to thinker-with is a sample of how I have taken to using AI as a personal health collaborator.  Somehow, I don’t think my IRL PCP would be interested in getting a phone call at, oh, 4:37 AM with questions like this.

  4. i volunteer for a local nonprofit. y’all should try volunteerism sometime. anyway, our mission statement is basically no one should be denied access to fresh produce because of inability to pay. the food from food pantries is mostly packaged, canned or dried so fresh vegetables make a big difference to people. probably keeps them healthier too which saves money on healthcare. we buy produce from local farms, grow some, and distribute it to local food pantries. we also set up a booth at the local senior center, food pantries and a farm to give out produce. anyway, the trump admin just killed one of our grants for $182,000, 25% of our budget. we’re a small lean nonprofit run mostly with volunteers. there’s no fraud, waste or abuse. we give out fresh vegetables to people that need them. so this year we’ll be giving out 250,000 less servings of fresh vegetables to people that need food assistance, my hungry neighbors, democrats and republicans. we don’t care who someone voted for. i guarantee the same cuts are happening in your neighborhood too or if you volunteer for a nonprofit you may already have seen it.

    • Thank you for your volunteer service. I think you will find many others on this site (Democrats and Republicans) who have done or do volunteer using their own time and money.

My experience as a Food Bank volunteer and Board member is that government grants are not often audited and often misspent. I have been guided by the words of Milton Friedman. The 4 ways to spend money.

“1) You can spend your own money on yourself.

If you spend your own money on yourself, you’re very careful on what you spend it on. You make sure you get the most for your dollar.

      2) You can spend your own money on someone else.

When you spend your own money on someone else, you’re careful on not spending too much. You don’t worry as much about the gifts you buy for other people as the things you buy for yourself.

      3) You can spend somebody else’s money on yourself.

You’re careful to get good things for the money. But you’re not very worried about getting the best bang for your buck. You’re happier to spend more of somebody else’s money within reason.

      4) You can spend somebody else’s money on somebody else.

You become a “distributor of welfare funds.” You’re interested in making your own life as good as you can. But you’re not going to be anywhere near as careful as spending this money on other people.

In an environment where we are accustomed to spending other people’s money on someone else, we end up not maximizing the value of the dollar. We also don’t end up appreciating money as much either.”

    • it is nice that you volunteer,,, and give what is yours to give away,,but when you give away other people money, that was taken by threat of IRS, that is communism.
reminds me of Davy Crockett, as a member Congress he was against any federal government give aways.
and you wonder why you get so much guff here.
when you reach into your pocket and give money away, that is being Christian,,, that is what I have done, gave money to a widow who’s husband did his self in, gave money to a guy that was in a auto wreck, laid up and his friend died in the wreck, I go to benefits that raise money for those who suffered a major problem of health or family loss.
I give my money away, but I don’t give your money away,,, big difference there Karl
      I do enjoy your TDS

    • Maybe you should be supporting getting rid of the grifting and illegal use of tax payers money. Peop!e are fed up with it. But no , you turned a blind eye to it as long as you got yours.

    • Thanks for your story regarding your volunteer service, truth. However, some of us were a bit insulted as to how you worded your remark that we should try volunteering sometime. You sounded very righteous and spoke like you had invented volunteering.

Many folks on this forum, that is graciously provided by George Ure, have done multiple good deeds for others and also gave good service to their communities. They do not feel like they require recognition for it.

I have done volunteer work by serving on a local mountain rescue team for nineteen years when I was younger. Finding lost people, especially children, was rewarding, and helping to carry out injured hikers and climbers with stretchers was a lot of work. We were never paid for our service, but we all were glad to do it. I learned empathy for those who face death for a living, such as policemen, firefighters, and our warriors in service to our country, when I was locating and helping to carry back the bodies of the dead. That grief stays with me.

      • Well said Nancy, Wilson, The other brother Darrel and Bic. It is always rewarding (to me) to help someone in need. That warm glow inside is wonderful. I believe that part of life it to be of help to all peoples and of course not go around bragging about it. Just be helpful, smile and be happy, quietly, at their joy.

Cheers and continue to be helpful.

        • That warm glow is just wonderful! Let them eat nothing! Not even cake!
‘One of every six Americans sought food from food banks in 2023, according to a Feeding America study. That was a 38 percent increase from 2021.

          https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/03/21/food-banks-funding-cuts-usda-trump/

‘Earlier this month, the Trump administration announced $1 billion in cuts to food assistance programs that help schools and food banks buy fresh food from local farmers — part of the funding announced last fall by the Biden administration when it extended both programs. Agency officials dismissed them as “covid era” assistance that was no longer necessary.

Pamela Irvine, the president and chief executive of Feeding Southwest Virginia, expressed similar uncertainty about what comes next. She said her food bank does not receive enough donated food — or have enough money to buy its own food — to make up for losing the federal supply.’

“Without those commodities and a strong farm bill, we wouldn’t have enough food to feed the food-insecure neighbors in our 26 counties,” she said.’

        • Wait, how could this be? Itg was right in the middle of Comrade droioler Biden’s coup…tell me it ain’t so? The hero of the homeless and beacon of p[aid freedom rides to ‘Mercia…OMG (wrings hands and wets self…)

        • Amen.. when I see someone that needs a hand up.. I give it if I can.. its odd its like I can see it. I have only used these services once..I donate garden goods all the time.. what I was surprised at was an article years ago about how some have misused the federal grant money.. I love the idea of the states getting these funds then distributing them where needed..I believe the money even though it was cut from being delivered by the part of a shift toward “long-term, fiscally responsible initiatives.” However, this move has raised concerns about its impact on food security,

        • (“Let them eat nothing! Not even cake!”)

no worries C Biden was voted out of office..Kammy was a joke.. it will take time to get this turned around from the disastrous actions of Slo’s incompetence..

    • The CEO of our local foodbank is a retired TV Sales executive with many community business contacts. His team actively solicits LOCAL DONATION to the foodbank, including many local farms. Instead of paying taxpayer dollars out, you should try to solicit those farms to donate… and they get tax deductions for the value donated. Keep it local. That’s the ultimate volunteerism. Enlist the community for the cause.

  5. “maybe not embrace the potential of A.I. for personal benefit yet”

Snork. Good luck with the “yet” part. Much of what LLMs deliver is gussied up audio search functions without real thinking “yet” but … I for one have no desire to contribute to the stream. Every interaction. Every identifier in IoT. Every bit and bite adds to your data file. Why offer that info? We continue to try to utilize tech systems and delivery absent the exchange, meaning data remains local.

Is your mobile phone location turned on? Why? If to use nav. function turn location on when navigating and off when not. Easy peasy. I recently added a smart(er) keyed and electronic deadbolt. Is it talking to wifi? Nope. It has every function wanted with zero downside. Or, worst case, the relied upon network goes down and you are locked out? No brainer (my best operational mode).

      Need I comment?

I was in Wal-Mart earlier, getting headlight bulbs replaced. (Wal-Mart has one of them thar fancy headlight-aiming ‘puters. I {obviously} do things like headlight bulbs, but the first time, Wally World gets the job because composite headlights can’t be accurately aimed without the fancy tool. I have no problem with bright headlights; I have a huge problem with idiots who have their headlights pointed at the eyes of oncoming traffic.)

I have a background in a lot of things. One of them is site security. Therefore, I notice things like cameras and RFID readers, which normal people likely don’t. The Wal-Mart I was in had virtually every inch of every aisle in hardware, automotive, and sporting goods covered by, not one, but three cameras. This made me think of all the cams along public roads now, and think again about ways to both spot, and defeat them. Aside from speed limits and occasionally a stop sign, I never break legal or ethical laws. IMO the government(s) should have as much faith in my morals as they demand from me regarding their integrity. Yes, the gunshot-triangulation sensors are an excellent idea, and I approve, despite the intrusion. I don’t approve of the cams attached to them. The global Gestapo can install these things and sniff public places, but I should be able to defeat them with impunity.

As much as I can see the advantages of AI, I will not contribute toward its learning, nor its file on me. I know that’s “awfully Luddite” of me, but I’m okay with that…

      • Yes they do have it covered at Wal-Mart.. Walmart has faced Extensive lawsuits related to violent incidents in their parking lots, including wrongful death claims. For instance, there have been cases where families sued Walmart, alleging that the company failed to provide adequate security measures despite knowing about the risks of criminal activity in their parking lots..
my grandson and I were going to meet his mother in the Wal-Mart parking lot ..A transient jumped in the car and forced me to take them someplace. what they didn’t know was I was on the phone with the mother.. Wal-Mart took care of the legal issues and I believe had the transient arrested..I now lock my doors..

  6. Gosh, IDK, one might think everyone would know by now about Joe Tibbens’ story and the work that William Makis, MD is doing regarding cancers. Sadly, they don’t.

It’s pretty impressive when ppl with mets to the brain and bone have their health and life restored to them.

Joe’s story can be found at http://www.mycancerstory.rocks and Makis can be found on Substack.

        • I will try them.. I got some seeds from a clay pot that was found in the four corners. cliff dwellings Anastazi dig once . the only way I could get them to sprout was soaking them then placing the seeds in a Petri dish with agar..it was melon seeds kind of looked like watermelon seeds .. the sad part is..the growing season just wasn’t long enough.. which is what I fear about these melon seeds..

      BCN,
In lieu of a trip to the dry cleaners, I’d like to point something out which may help ‘perc’ things up.

A post appeared on “X” covering the dramatic splashdown of the SpaceX capsule south-east of St. George Island with the pair of rescued astronauts. A helicopter is pointed out in the clip. Here is a link to that “X” post:

      https://x.com/FELibrary_/status/1903156470272659737

At least a portion of the helicopter’s activity is publicly posted on the “Flightradar24” site. Here is that weblink offering a flight history overview:

A mentioned airport allegedly had its airforce station closed about 55 years ago. According to “Wikipedia”, approximately 10 longitudinal minutes west of the airport, there had been a temporary WW2 facility in the area.

Please continue steps towards greatest happiness with a low heat setting in order to reduce shrinkage.

      • The Land holds lots of secrets.

Peru (Indiana) airport was a CAP (Civil Air Patrol) airbase in the 1950s and 1960s. Its name was changed to Grissom AFB after Astronaut Gus Grissom was killed in a NASA training op during the ramp-up to the Apollo Program. Grissom became an ANG (Air National Guard) Base, and later was “decommissioned,” only to become an “air museum” — located only about 200 miles from Wright-Patterson AFB and the USAF Museum.

Peru is known as one of the 2-3 principal hangouts for circuses and carnivals during the off-season. Grissom is UNknown as the place where two backup Air Force One 747s are stabled. “Grissom Air Museum” and Fort Knox, KY both lie on highway US-31. I have been to both places. The “back lot” at Grissom is much more heavily-guarded and secure than the pillbox at Fort Knox, and like Nellis AFB, trespassers are shot on site (not a spelling error.) If you breach the outer fence they come and get you. If you breach the second fence, you become one of those people who mysteriously “go missing without a trace” every year, and wind up dispersed over several thousand Purina Hog Chow bags…

    • re: “Svaty” (ru: ‘in-laws’; ukr: ‘saints’)
      feat: Kvartal-95 riding the pine

      Folks,

Yesterday President Zelensky received a promise of $8 million during his visit to Norway. Today back in Kyiv he posted photo-ops with his current visitor, the President of the Czech Republic. No donation is mentioned.

Surprisingly on his way back from Norway to Ukraine President Zelensky either was not invited or chose not to make a personal appearance at the European Council meeting held in Brussels. Not only did the wheels fall of an EC wish of €40 billion more for Ukraine, but a smaller €5 billion package for artillery shells turned into a dud. The President of the French Republic was there, and the following link from his website ignores those trivialities.

      https://www.elysee.fr/en/emmanuel-macron/2025/03/20/european-council-20-21-march-2025

Instead, President Zelensky toured his Czech visitor to the small village of Moschun on the outskirts of Kyiv where Russian forces became bogged down in March, 2022. One imagines President Z. recalled the town from happier times when the Russian language comedy “Svaty” was filmed there for several seasons from 2008 onwards and he was the producer. Curiously problems arose with the Russian lead actors as well as Ukrainian. broadcast regulators following the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014. Season 7 was significantly delayed and producer Zelensky moved filming to Belarus. I suppose next week will tell us what strategy he has for Ukraine to navigate the sands of Riyadh talks. Here is a “Wikipedia” link to the “Svaty” series:

      Have a great weekend, everybody!

  9. Can a brother get a little help from this august group of Patriots ?

I am in need of recommendations for a new Washing Machine.

Current “newer’ model LG is a total piece of shit.
It stinks, regularly triggering allergic reactions.
It spews out pieces of shit/paper on the regular, left in bottom of bin after rinse&spin cycle complete. My Wife HATES it.
It is the worst washing machine I ever experienced. Wife was on reddit – collected tons of testimonials as to level of Piece of Shitness.

And yet consumer reports lists LG as top reco’d brand !

Obviously consumer reports is “on the take” nowadays, and I will not be renewing subscription.
So anyway – does anybody out there have any good experiences with a current/modern Washing Machine?

Wishing we could find an old school style Washing machine like a old GE/SpeedQueen – that just simply Washed Clothes clean. Dont want or need any bells or whistles – just clean the dam clothes, without making me sick or pissing the Wife off.
Would be better off beating our clothes clean in the River on the rocks, as Mayan villagers do in Belize every week. Mom and kids go to River and make a day of it, but I digress.

Green freaks ruined another simple pleasure, and no not talking bout heathrows wood fired backup generator system, no really its a thing there in kneeler land. See heathrow not Flying today..bwahahahah

Can a American still get a “conservative” Washing machine that gets the job done ? or am destined to suffer the affects of the “green poison’ sickening our Nation and or Society.

*Chorus heard coming from bathroom at USN bootcamp Orlando-80’s, during a barracks inspection..
“rub dub dub Im a maytag washer, I wash all day and I wash all night, and my parts never wear out” Sung by “burgerkings” with their Heads IN a metal Trash can, who forgot to cycle/wash their clothes that past week.

    • SpeedQueen still makes ’em.

When our current set grinds to a halt, that’s what we’re getting. I’m tired of having to bypass ‘safeties’ to get the performance and convenience.

      • We were going through washers and dryers every four years it was frustrating as hell..just like our newer dishwashers.. ( we quit using the dishwasher they aren’t built like they use to be..the business model) one day I was frustrated as hell..the repairman from the appliance store was fixing a fuse in the dryer.. I said dam why don’t they make these like they use to … he said. that’s why I tell everyone in my family to get speed queen.. huh.. called the store and ordered a pair right then..still made in the USA with Chinese parts.. we would have had to buy three sets in the time we have had ours..sure they are a little more but dam its cost saved us 1200.00 in delivery fees..sure the extended warranty will give you a new set the delivery and extended warranty costs still add up. we stopped using the dishwasher..retail cost of it in the country its made in is 4.50 us..so the cost of living is there what did that thing cost wholesale to be shipped around the globe then trucked thousands of miles the salesman makes a hundred and twenty .. at 450.00 retail..
its like the fifty dollar hardwood panels that the cabinet company was getting delivered at fifty cents a sheet..its always about the business model.

    • I bought a cheap Amana washer years ago at the orange box depot. Only repair I have DIY is to replace the suspension rods/springs for the tub when the shock absorbers wear out. Done that twice now. When the tub gets all loosey-goosey and bottoms out when full, you know it’s time. Not a hard job to open up the washer, tip it over, and replace the long spring rods to the tub. Sprayed a little galvanizing on the rust spots of the box, and it’s good for another couple years. Had it running eight years now.

    • My favorite washer was a Maytag square tub wringer machine. A wonderful device! Sure wish that I had on now!

      Cheers

    • Believe it or not, Speed Queen still sells basic washing machines. You’ll have to do a web search to find one and it will almost certainly come from a local mom and pop shop, like mine did.
Had this washer for over 7 years and it runs like a top. LG is everything you say it is. Trust me – you’ll love getting the wash done in 20 minutes instead wan agonizing hour!

    • buy used at estate auctions, I got my sears washer and dryer used 20 yrs ago,,, I fix them myself, if they break, but have not had to yet, got some spare parts hanging on the wall, that are most likely to wear out
no damn digital or electronics, that give the new ones fits of anger.
the women want new shiny stuff,,, offer her a choice, between a piece of gold jewery or a washer dryer that will not finish the job,,, the gold holds value,,, one yr old washers are scrape iron
have heard of more than one person bitch about the new shit,,, it stinks

    • New Speed Queen or buy a 40yo Kenmore Model 70 and have it rebuilt/restored to original. No guarantees on the Speed Queen, but the Kenmore will outlive you…

      • We have had our speed queen quite a while now.. totally love it.. was getting frustrated over how fast machines were breaking down..then I was told that speed queen still makes them by the original standards..

  10. Dammit George! Every time I read one of your health analysis reports I wind up getting more supplements. Now I gotta find some PQQ…

    • I just took a PQQ I bought a year? ago at Ure’s mention. I forgot what it was for, but I feel better.

      Next I need some PDQ!

    • PQQ is pretty generic, although I would suggest an established, American brand/manufacturer. Had an MD/DO acquaintance who swore by it…

  11. Totally in sympathy with your eye problems Getting ip from table on Thanksgiving world went totally blurry
Spent afternoon in ER where I teceived a good work up Diagnosis acute sinusitis Saw Opthalmologist at 9 that night. Did not diagnose problem
Actual problem cataract intra ocular lens (piece of junk Crystalens) had fallen out of place Saw retinal surgeon who doesnt want to remove lens from eye ball because of previous surgeries
Had contact fitted which gives me better vision than the intra ocular lens but is frustrating to put in place
So I really sympathise with your ongoing exe pfoblemd

    • I have mhard lenses which I can wear but – yep – they are a PITA to install and use… Lens over IOL gives better vision. think walking around with a stick in your eye in return for being able to spot an ugly of the opposite sex at 2-miles… At some point it just don’t matter!

  12. In a turn of events, it has been determined that most widely held conspiracy theories are largely true. I still cling to one unpopular theory which will never be accepted by the general public: Lee Oswald was a better shot than popularly given credit for. • Amen to that! I purposefully flunked my morse code aptitude test in the Army entrance exams because I didn’t want to be a ‘ditty-bop’ copying code at some remote outpost.

George Glezmann, a 65-year-old Georgia man held by the Taliban since December 2022, is returning to the U.S. after Trump’s envoy Adam Boehler and Qatari officials secured his release.

Journalist Glenn Greenwald claimed newly released JFK assassination files support the Trump theory — the existence of a Deep State.

    The president of the Democratic Republic of Congo has offered President Trump a minerals deal in exchange for a U.S. security agreement to help remove violent rebels. Congo, home to over $20 trillion in minerals, including gold, copper, and the world’s largest cobalt supply, is seeking U.S. support to stabilize the conflict-ridden nation. {If you were paying attention (but you weren’t) you’d have seen my post a month ago, when I said this was going to happen.     The USDA announced that the University of Maine System is now in full compliance with Trump’s executive order banning transgender athletes from women’s sports.     Trump accused District Court Judge James Boasberg of trying to ‘usurp the power of the presidency’ while demanding the Supreme Court take action amid a high-stakes legal standoff. {The last time the Alien Enemies Act was challenged, the USSC determined that the Judiciary had no jurisdiction or authority, and could not challenge the Act.}

    Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called Trump’s move to dismantle the Department of Education “one of his most destructive actions,” warning it will harm kids, parents, and raise property taxes. Sen. Elizabeth Warren labeled it a “code red” for public schools, saying students and teachers will “pay a heavy price.” {Yeah, they may begin to learn stuff again. Dumping the DoEd will shred the NEA and AFT, and destroy one of the Democratic Party’s principal income streams, all while cutting the cost of education nearly in half, as the DoEd’s many layers of bureaucracy, and the employees of each layer, go away.}

    Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) said her birthday wish is for Elon Musk to be “taken down.” Crockett is a member of the activist group “Tesla Takedown,” which has announced a “Global Day of Action” for Saturday, March 29, urging protests at 500 Tesla dealerships worldwide. {Crockett is committing a Federal felony or six, because Tesla stock is a portion of every State’s retirement investment portfolio, and she is is therefore both duty, and legally bound to defend it.}

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) is staying silent on reports of a romantic relationship with Tara McGowan, a former Democratic operative and founder of Courier Newsroom—a progressive media outlet funded by donors including George Soros. Murphy recently separated from his wife of two decades.

    One of the main speakers on the “Tesla Takedown” livestream was {648 pound} Boston University {Sociology} professor Joan Donovan, a self-described expert on memes and disinformation with ties to George Soros-funded initiatives. Donovan, a vocal leftist, {and computer illiterate} accused Elon Musk of being a black hat hacker. {This loudmouth lardass has no fucking clue what a real hacker is, and I doubt seriously she understands the nuance of The Hat.}

California activists are warning Illinois families about a proposed law, HB2827, that would impose regulations and penalties on homeschooling. FEMA has received 270,000 applications for aid following the recent L.A. fires, despite only about 13,000 homes being destroyed—a ratio raising major fraud concerns. Many legitimate applicants have reported being locked out after fraudsters used their names and addresses.

It’s called gaming the system, isn’t it Ray? It appears in all areas of government handouts including the Food Bank discussions we had here today. When people know there is free money available to those in need, a lot of them just invent that need. Unless checked, they get away with it. I have seen it in countries here and abroad. Government handouts can be a curse.

I definitely don’t agree with every thing Trump is doing but I do support rooting out government enabled corruption. Where there is genuine need like the 13,000 fire victims in California, let’s help them. I would donate personally or if younger and able, help them rebuild. But for the other 257,000, I would be doing a full scale non political assessment of the need.

Milton Friedman’s 4 ways to spend money is worth a review.

  15. All : there were many good comments about tech surveillance with at least a few leaning towards data security and anonymity … a rejoinder to witness the passing of a stellar actor. Gene Hackman –

[excerpt from Enemy of the State – 1998]

“The government’s been in bed with the entire telecommunications industry since the forties. They’ve infected everything. They get into your bank statements, computer files, email, listen to your phone calls… Every wire, every airwave. The more technology used, the easier it is for them to keep tabs on you. It’s a brave new world out there. At least it’d better be.”

[in a later vignette, Brill says something about how what was known at the time paled to what was available in …1998]

I bumped into his Georgeness when the internet was young (Longwavers). I have owned various online properties (originally an America’s Cup forum). Later, between (then) free to user open source tracking -or- that which comes through hosting Cos., it was dumbfounding what we knew/know about those who visit the site or sister social media accounts.

None of this is meant to inspire zealotry. Rather, we could be a lot more careful about feeding the beast. Data files abound, for sale, and are now being probed / analyzed in ways unimaginable just a couple years down our wake. At the least, why volunteer the very information you’d prefer remain discrete?

Robert Clayton Dean: Why are they after me?
    Brill: I don’t know and I don’t wanna know
Brill: You’re transmitting. They still got a signal on you. Get rid of your cloths all of them
Robert Clayton Dean: Then what am I supposed to do?
Brill: Nothing. You live another day I’ll be very impressed. You have something they want.
Robert Clayton Dean: Look, I don’t have anything
Brill: Maybe you do and you don’t know it

    Best to all, Egor

    • “Enemy of the State,” “Conspiracy Theory,” and “Red” all detailed slivers of our “Intelligence Community” which were accurate, and not very flattering. When EotS came out I had a security clearance and could talk to (and be talked to) by people whom age has driven beyond me. I asked an acquaintance who was a FEMA deputy Director (and had some connection with NSA) and was told the technology and technique in EotS was completely accurate, but 5-7 generations behind where the Agencies really were. He was the guy who told me the satcams could read the Surgeon General’s warning on a pack of cigarettes. That would’ve been in 2000 or 2001. Based on Moore’s Law, I can’t even imagine what they can do now, and I’m a security wonk. Think about “Marvin’s” cellphone stack in “Red.” If you saw the movie, did you understand the significance, or the reason Marvin destroyed the stack of burner phones immediately after a single use…?
