GDP, Boss Trump Marches On, E-Spa Expansion

Might as well get the GDP numbers out of the way first:

Real gross domestic product (GDP) increased at an annual rate of 2.3 percent in the fourth quarter of 2024, according to the second estimate. In the third quarter, real GDP increased 3.1 percent. The increase in real GDP in the fourth quarter primarily reflected increases in consumer spending and government spending that were partly offset by a decrease in investment. Imports, which are a subtraction in the calculation of GDP, decreased.

This all comes as the nVidia earnings hit expectations and the company gave an upbeat outlook.  But, he careful what you wish for:  If you’re in engineering, law, or any of a host of other professions where the main work product is IP (intellectual property) then A.I. could have the same long-term society-wide impacts as the internal combustion engine.  Just how things work.

Markets are Still There

But we are still in a downdraft and we continue to harbor concerns that in its effort to “clean house” the Trump administration is very likely to trigger at least a recession over the balance of the year (if not sooner…)

Our Ebbinghouse-Ure model shows how the NVDA bounce will impact – but this is only a “going into the open, before GDP” kind of view.  The weekend view (money has to land somewhere to rest up) will be more meaningful:

In “classical” Elliott wave” views, there’s a strong case evolving in the slow-moving averages for the S&P to drop into the 1700s before May, if not before the end of March.

On the other hand, it could be much deeper and faster. Because it “feels” like an inflection point is nearing in the resumption of Trade Wars.  As Trump threatens 25% tariffs on EU, claims bloc was formed to ‘screw’ US | Donald Trump News.  And, drown out by all the noise/news flow is the reality of tariffs going on this weekend.  Europe is trying to step on  their dancing partner’s toes a bit, too: EU to react ‘firmly’ on tariffs after Trump says bloc was created to ‘screw’ US.  Schoolyard stuff, but real people can get hurt.

Bitcon  is still unable to scale resistance at $90,000 – holding $86,530 early. Which we read as no AI earnings impact.  Or – and more likely – all the public is in now, so expect the Whales to begin taking chips off the table.  A lower outlook is seen.

All That Talk About Govt Cuts?

Not impacting new unemployment filings – yet:

And fairly steady around the several states:

Seems likely to change, just not yet.

Scales of Just Us

There is a nifty economic outcome possible ahead, if we can look that far.  Say, three years, or so.  In this scenario, the republican’s do dramatically cut the size of the federal labor (entitlement), begin moves to put postal and government (phat) bureaucrats in Social Security with the rest of the Tax Chattel, and then breathe on the embers of American ingenuity to bring home manufacturing. Squandered over the 70s through 10s.  That could be neat.

On the other hand, as one report (whines?) puts it: USAID workers will be given 15 minutes to clear their workspaces as agency dismantled.  Yeah, well, money laundering and all that…

Still, we did raise an eyebrow at some of the gem’s reader Ray posted overnight, including this about DC Housing impacts of actual thrift becoming a word again, inside the Beltway:

“Elon Musk and DOGE Score Massive Court Victory—The D.C. Exodus Has Begun

The numbers speak for themselves: in November 2024, the median home in D.C. was valued at $699,000. As of now? It’s a shocking $560,000, representing a 20% drop in just about three months. Mass selling is not even close to describing what’s happening. With nearly 8,000 homes now on the market, half of those listings have been posted in just the last 30 days.

Rays other summary of DC events this week here is better than my own. Besides, I’m supposed to be retired now…isn’t 76 enough?

Passings, Health Notes

Not sure how this one went down: Sheriff: Gene Hackman, wife found dead in Santa Fe home; no foul play suspected.  CO2, or something?  No hints yet, but we keep scanning stories like Actor Gene Hackman, wife found dead at New Mexico home looking for clues.

On the health front, we are seeing the odd measles case pop up here in Texas now: Texas child is first reported US measles death in a decade as outbreak hits more than 130.

While developing complications like pneumonia, ear infections, and brain swelling due to a weakened immune system from a case of measles is there, making it crucial for older adults to be vaccinated against measles; even mild cases can be serious for the elderly.  One of the few shots we keep up on is the two part pneumonia and tetanus (because of rusty everything out here).

And check this out: Wide Awake Media on X: “”They tried to kill us… They tried to sterilise us.” Dr. Naomi Wolf: “The centrepiece of the Pfizer papers is an intentional attack… on women and babies.” “They killed the babies, and they knew it. They poisoned the breast milk, and they knew it… They lowered the sperm count and they knew it…

Elsewhere, the wars march on as North Korea Sends Reinforcements to Russia’s Kursk and Israel’s bad trade with Hamas drags along. Hamas calls for talks on next phase of ceasefire after hostage-prisoner exchange.

Way to go: Brightspeed: We are into Day 4 of no DSL on our Brightspeed HDSL circuit, though in fairness, the voice services still work. This is redicking fuculous customer service.  Along with spending an hour on hold to get a late charge removed because it took them 14-days to get around to posting my check… (Can you tell? I’m on a slow burn.  But when people question why Elon Musk’s Starlink is mopping the floor with sluggish old school telcos, there’s a major hint in our experience somewhere.

Around the Ranch: E-Spa Expansion

One reason, we think, that we’re “beating aging” is that for the past 8-years, we have both been doing red light therapy.  Kicks up mitochondrial function, and so forth.  Add to that?  Blue Light Therapy for Better Sleep in Seniors is worth a look over on Study Finds.

As you know (or may not, depending on how drifty you’ve been) I have been working with several docs who are tracking down a new (something-or-other) in Florida.  Medical device research, Tesla scalar coils, PEMF, that sort of thing.

Lead doc and I got talking this week and he is very high on three great ideas I have started moving toward.  The first is a “vibration plate.”  You stand on one of these (or do “planks” with one) and is shakes the hell out of you.  In the process, gets blood flow going and it also helps the lymph system to drain off residues and bad stuff.  We picked up one of these. It was like $85-bucks.

Next, we picked up a small trampoline, folding, with a safety bar.  The key thing, says our doc pal, is to get a tramp that has bungees not springs because the springs are much harder on people who have leg or hip issues.

Last but not least, we are starting to look at a steam sauna (or I will build one for us – I like woodworking (when there’s no keyboard, Morse key, oscilloscope, or soldering iron around).  Hot tip from the doc?  “Look up antiaging impacts of HSP’s – that’s heat shock proteins.”

AI of the field is a gem:

Role in viral infection

  • HSPs can protect cells from viral infection by inhibiting viral replication and activating the immune system.
  • However, some viruses can hijack HSPs to help them invade and replicate.

Role in cellular stress

  • HSPs are molecular chaperons that help proteins fold correctly and prevent misfolded proteins from aggregating.
  • HSPs also help cells survive lethal conditions.
  • HSPs are expressed in normal cells, but their expression increases in response to stress, such as heat or ischemia.

Role in the immune response

  • HSPs can stimulate antigen-presenting cells of the immune system.
  • HSPs can also enhance antigen presentation to T lymphocytes.
  • HSPs displayed on the surface of cells can target cytotoxic cells.

Doc friend is very keen on steam – as opposed to the NIR variety of saunas – because the steam tends to run a little hotter.

We haven’t decided when (or where) to put one of these installs.  Have to run 220 power for the steamer and such..  But, in the interest of living a longer (and more important, healthier) life, First People who did “sweat lodges” were onto something very good.

For now, the electronic (e-spa) consists of

  • Red light therapy panel (chest)
  • Light crown (transcranial NIR, FIR)
  • Foot massager
  • Eye  heating pad (which helps dry eyes for a lot of people)
  • Hand massage machine (no interest in carpel, thanks!)
  • And a back massage pad.

This was all laid out in a ShopTalk Sunday column in 2022 – still a daily visit for us….

  1. George, the mini tramp will get your lymphs pumping…had a lazy arm pit that had swollen, got on the tramp couple minutes a day…..nothing crazy. Sure enough pit returned to being a pit, not a mound. Took a couple of weeks, but hell, better than a handful of pills daily. Now its part of the morning routine

  2. I have been using a bouncer(small trampoline) with a hand bar for about 6 months. My balance was wobbly and it has helped, only a few minutes a day. I do about a minute of light bouncing where my feet never go in the air, and then alternate feet to walk with high knees 120 times.

  3. “Govt (people) Cuts”

I think there’s more than one way to add it up.

Back there @ the end of January – link below – APNews said:

“The Trump administration announced Tuesday that it is offering buyouts to all federal employees who opt to leave their jobs by next week — an unprecedented move to shrink the U.S. government at breakneck speed. ”

I don’t think folks who get buyouts are immediately eligible for unemployment compensation. And some of the buyout people are going to buy exotic cats and dogs for breeding mills. Others will see a boom in pets and feed the demand by opening grooming operations. Others will open coffee joints catering to the bored with dreams of being the next Starbucks, which is the past.

Boom times ahead until it cracks-up.

Then toss the five large 79,000,000 folks will get for simply being Americans and it’s an economic bonfire.

Somehow, one of the pins was pulled out of the handle, and when it rolled up against another extinguisher, it slightly cracked the valve open. The driver was unaware that the O2 in cabin of the vehicle was being displaced by the CO2. He stated that as he waited at a stoplight, he was feeling extremely lightheaded and dizzy. When he attempted to open the door to get out, his vision had deteriorated to the point where he couldn’t find the door handle. Fortunately, he made one more swipe at the handle and was able to open the door. He hit the street like a bag of wet cement. Much to his embarrassment, a 911 call, our Rescue Squad, and 6 stiches in his head later, it was all done but the harassment. BTW, I would agree that it was most likely a CO deal with Hackman’s death.

  5. The GDP. The only real reason that GDP came in higher the expected..,?? Consumer Spending hit an all time High in December. Government Spending wasn’t far behind. The reading had very little to do with product, or production. Damn near – but not quite a -“false reading”.
Consumer confidence has declined for three straight months now and Consumer spending slowed in January and looks to have slowed even more in February. May pick up a bit in March as ‘Spring’ buying kicks in.., consumers getting ready for ‘Summer’.
Curious that imports slowed with such a high dollar. Seems like it should have been up sharply due to the threat of tariffs and corporations stocking up before the tariffs begin. Guess not.
Still., I am surprised that the GDP was that high. My guess was below one percent. Wrong again !

There are probably a number of powerful politicians listed in those files, but there may be other files regarding his fake suicide. They never put someone on suicide watch in a cell by themselves – it does not happen. The guards supposedly fell asleep. I never saw that happen, either.

I have said all along that Epstein was NOT a child pedophile. The people he was bringing in from princes, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, etc, were to get them on film and use that for blackmail. If he was a pedophile, you do not broadcast that to influential people who might look down on you. This was a powerplay, and the real question is, who was he operating for?

  8. Just a thought.., bare with me here…,

There is over $1.3 trillion dollars invested in Bitcoin. Does all of this cash in digital currencies effect the velocity of money?

A significant portion of the money invested in digital currencies is tied up in speculative investments. This can reduce the velocity of money, as these funds are not actively circulating in the economy.

If digital currencies are primarily used as a store of value rather than for transactions, this could reduce the velocity of money. People might hold onto their digital assets instead of spending them, which would slow down the circulation of money.

However, the broader adoption and integration of digital currencies into everyday transactions in the future could increase the velocity of money.

Overall, the impact of digital currencies on the velocity of money depends on how they are used and integrated into the economy. While they have the potential to increase transaction efficiency, their role as a store of value and speculative investment can also slow down the circulation of money.

    * * *

Estimates suggest that 90% of the world’s money exists only as digital data. According to recent data 97% of all U.S. dollars are in the form of on-line transactions. Meaning, that the actual number of dollars are on a computer somewhere in the form of pixels., bits and bytes.

So.., as of right now., all of the investing in digital currencies is slowing down the velocity of money in the U.S. and it is estimated that $1.62 trillion U.S. dollars are sitting idle in digital “store of value” holdings. [ 17.3% of the population ‘hold’ digital currencies.]

[ Wow – One EMP and 97% of U.S. dollars vanish?]

According to recent data 97% of all U.S. dollars are in the form of on-line transactions.
    .., and thus,
According to the St Louise Fed – as of January 2025, there are approximately $2.36 trillion U.S. dollars in circulation. This includes all denominations of Federal Reserve notes, U.S. notes, and currency no longer issued. ., but over $1.6 trillion [ 68% of all issued dollars] are sitting idle in “store of value” digital currency holdings.
    – If all that is true, [ government numbers ] then there basically is no “Velocity of Money”.

    How is that possible ??

  9. Big believer in the steam sauna experience for health benefits. Getting your body to sweat some of it’s poisons out via your sweat glands at least for me did help me stay healthy (imo) during the years I was able to do that regularly (don’t have one at home and current gym does NOT have a sauna so can not do at present)

The proper way to do it I was taught by the outdoors type Scandinavians up in Minnesota when I was way back in my middle teens was you go in and try to remain for 20 minutes. Come out and take an ICE COLD shower, jumping in an ice covered lake works too they told me … then go back in for another 10 to 15 minutes. Come out and take another ICE COLD shower and when you finish with that just finish with a SHORT regular shower with soap/shampoo. The point of the ice cold shower (MUST BE COLD, as in REAL COLD not as in summertime tap water cold in Texas LOL) is to close up the pores opened up with the steam sauna.

May be my imagination but also seemed to “sharpen” my mind too … but ONLY if I did the ICE COLD SHOWER ritual.

Don’t know other’s experiences wrt their learnings about how to properly do the sauna experience but apparently that is what is traditional back in Scandinavia, which if true would have been what was developed over a few hundred years. It also matches up pretty well with what I have read about North American Indian Sweat Lodges.

They do sell “package kits” of the entire unit that you can put together an put in your basement (or elsewhere) but if you do that be sure to get one that does a WET sauna, NOT a “dry only” sauna.

Good luck with your sauna work!

It was Gene, his wife, and their dog. If there’s truly “no foul play suspected” then the cause of death is almost certainly some type of gas — probably either carbon monoxide, or propane (if they died in their sleep…)

Thanks to the Administration’s ditching of the “only club members get to select who covers da Prez” policy, you qualify for a Press Pass. 14. Next, we picked up a small trampoline, folding, with a safety bar. The key thing, says our doc pal, is to get a tramp that has bungees not springs because the springs are much harder on people who have leg or hip issues.

Springs are best, but only if you can find a tramp that uses a plethora of really soft springs. Otherwise they’re too stiff and they “get sprung.” If you go with bungees, try to find one for which you can replace the bungees with off the shelf bungees from your local hardware store, and bear in-mind it’s Chinese rubber, so it is both photochemically and atmospherically reactive. They will self-destruct in two years or less…

      • FEMA, like the EPA, Dept. of Education, and a bunch of other Agencies and Departments is a wonderful idea.

The “idea” is the Department or Agency should be a “standards organization,” which identifies “best practices” then makes those “best practices” available AS RECOMMENDATIONS to every COUNTY and every territorial jurisdiction in the United States,

SO THOSE JURISDICTIONS CAN DO WITH THE RECOMMENDATIONS, WHAT THEY CHOOSE.

The “reality,” in our political universe, is Leftist politicians decided [if we TAKE OVER these functions, we can employ many people who will then vote to support our policies, thus increasing our power and perpetuating both their jobs and our control].

Hence the birth of a bureaucracy, where none should have been.

Most facets of our lives over which we must suffer some level of government control, are STILL best controlled by the government that is closest to us.

The local school board functions best when it doesn’t have to meet State and Federal POLITICAL goals, and can just direct the teachers in its local school corporation, to teach.

Ask the folks in Pacific Palisades how their rebuilding efforts are going. Nearly all have to wait on “insurance” but folks like Mel Gibson and Paris Hilton would have their homes rebuilt by now, were it not for Cali’s draconian licensing and permit requirements.

        And FEMA? — Ah, FEMA…

Drop in on their website. It is filled with excellent information.

The problem is, FEMA is also populated by a bunch of bureaucrats. FEMA replaced “Civil Defense.” Where C-D advised localities on how to prepare for local disasters, and the government furnished local “fallout shelters” (with cheese, crackers, powdered eggs, radios, Geiger counters, and all manner of useful things), FEMA consolidated “command & control” to D.C., eliminated “fallout shelters” and other localized resources, and made uniform, all responses to “emergency situations,” regardless of their nature.

My ex-wife is a hard-core Leftist. She has tried on several occasions to tell me her local fire department is an example of “socialism, in-action.”

        It is not.

Your local fire department is a “social service.” They respond locally to somebody’s call for help or assistance; they do not initiate fire runs on their own. They are subject to your local rules, where State and Federal rules are a “suggestion,” not a “mandate,” and “guidelines” are simply that.

If your local fire department were “socialism, in-action,” your call for help would go to Washington, D.C., where a bureaucrat or committee would decide whether the fire department should respond to your fire, when, and in what manner.

        FEMA is actual “socialism, in-action…”

I am not in favor of Education, EPA, HUD, FEMA, or other such entities simply going away. I am in favor of 100% of their bureaucracies going away, leaving only a single office of 3-6 people, who function only as an advisory body and churn out only “best-policy” guidelines. Every single State has its own version of virtually every Federal Agency or Department. This is an incredible waste of time and money, done to add at least two layers of Federal bureaucracy and political bullshit to every single entity, so the Federal Government can become ever more-centralized and more-powerful. It is stupid, inefficient, and unnecessary. Let States, Counties, and Townships regulate as they’re supposed to — Smack the Federal Government with the 10th Amendment, and keep smacking it until D.C. acquires a clue…

For example, when other AIs were asked whether global thermonuclear war or misgendering was worse, they picked the latter. The existential problem with that extrapolation is that a super powerful AI could decide that the only 100% certain way to stop misgendering is to kill all humans”

here is what it said..so I am going to try that one next..I still have 6 cacao pods ..lets see how it turns out..

      Tropical Cacao Wine Recipe
      Ingredients:
2 lbs of mixed tropical fruits (e.g., mango, pineapple, papaya, guava)

      1 lb of cacao nibs

      2 lbs of sugar

      1 gallon of water

      1 tsp of pectic enzyme

      1 tsp of yeast nutrient

1 Campden tablet (to sterilize the must)

1 packet of wine yeast (Lalvin EC-1118 is a good choice)

      Instructions:
Prepare the Fruits: Peel and chop the tropical fruits into small pieces. Place them in a large fermenting bucket.

Add Cacao Nibs: Add the cacao nibs to the bucket with the fruits.

Boil Water and Sugar: In a large pot, bring the water to a boil. Add the sugar and stir until it dissolves completely. Let it cool to room temperature.

Combine Ingredients: Pour the cooled sugar water over the fruits and cacao nibs in the fermenting bucket. Stir well.

Add Pectic Enzyme and Yeast Nutrient: Add the pectic enzyme and yeast nutrient to the mixture. Stir thoroughly.

Sterilize: Crush the Campden tablet and add it to the mixture to sterilize it. Cover the bucket and let it sit for 24 hours.

Add Yeast: After 24 hours, add the wine yeast to the mixture. Stir gently.

Primary Fermentation: Cover the bucket with a clean cloth or lid with an airlock. Let it ferment in a cool, dark place for about a week, stirring daily.

Strain and Transfer: After a week, strain the mixture to remove the fruit solids and cacao nibs. Transfer the liquid to a demijohn or carboy fitted with an airlock.

Here is the ancient Mayan and Aztec cocoa recipe..
Ancient Mayan and Aztec Cacao Drink Recipe
      Ingredients:
2 oz cacao nibs or raw cacao beans

      2 cups water

2 chili peppers (achiote, cayenne, or chipotle powder can substitute)

2 teaspoons of spices (choose from vanilla, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg)

Honey or agave nectar for sweetening (optional)

1/4 cup cornmeal (optional, for a thicker consistency)

      Instructions:
Roast the Cacao: Place the cacao nibs or raw cacao beans in a dry pan over low to medium heat. Roast them until they become fragrant and slightly darkened, which may take around 10-15 minutes. Keep stirring or shaking them for even roasting.

Grind the Cacao: Once roasted, grind the cacao nibs or beans into a paste using a mortar and pestle or a modern spice grinder.

Prepare the Chili Peppers: If using whole chili peppers, remove the seeds and chop them finely. If using powder, measure out the desired amount.

Combine Ingredients: In a pot, combine the ground cacao paste, chili peppers, spices, and water. If using cornmeal, add it now for a thicker consistency.

Simmer and Stir: Bring the mixture to a simmer over low heat, stirring continuously to prevent burning. Allow it to simmer for about 10-15 minutes.

Sweeten (Optional): If desired, add honey or agave nectar to taste.

Strain and Serve: Strain the mixture to remove any solid particles or residual spices. Serve the drink warm or cold, as preferred.

This recipe offers a taste of the ancient world’s chocolate experience, combining the unique bitterness of cacao with hints of spices and a touch of heat from the chili peppers. It’s a rich and flavorful beverage that reflects the cultural significance of cacao in Mayan and Aztec societies.

      • I think I have finally perfected the fermentation and drying. Built a temp controlled ‘incubator’ in a cooler box and finally figured how to sterilize everything and vent the moisture daily. Last batch got mold. Now I got two pods successfully drying in the dehydrator, ready to grind. One more pod almost ripe on my little tree. Cacao is a booming cash crop in Hawaii now, and you can buy local chocolate treats in the stores here.

  20. The Epstein problem has been identified. It’s THE NEW YORK FBI OFFICE withholding the Jeffrey Epstein Files and Epstein Tapes (The actual recordings of his clients having sex with minors)

Glenn Beck, “Pam Bondi said that the Southern District of New York, the FBI and the Southern District of New York actually has the tapes and everything else and will not turn it over to the White House or to Pam Bondi.”

“If that indeed is true, then we have a civil war on our hands, an internal Civil War. You have a duly elected president, his duly elected con confirmed leaders of the FBI and the Department of Justice. And then you have the Southern District of New York, FBI and Department of Justice bucking the orders of the president and their direct bosses. There is no other way to describe it”

So, aside from the fact James Comey’s kid is a prosecutor at SDNY and was lead prosecutor in both the Epstein and Maxwell trials, why is any evidentiary matter from any Epstein-related case still at SDNY. Shouldn’t all that stuff have been sent to the FBI archive vault over a year ago?

    Folks,
Earlier this week visiting French President Macron was pictured being dropped off curbside at the White House. There was nobody there to greet him, but the doorman let him in.

It would appear President Zelensky made it on time for his scheduled appointment this morning for his photo op with President Trump. I’m not sure if there was a problem with the ventilation system inside The Beast. President Zelensky looked as if he were trying to wipe his hands off on his sweatpants after exiting the vehicle before exchanging a handshake with President Trump. The host kindly complimented the visitor on his attire. The pair retired inside to the what one imagines as toasty interior confines of the White House.
