Yo Señor Jorge, I look at dieting as a zero sum game. After the passing of my wife in 2015 I went on a “Hot Yoga” binge. For four years I went three times a week without fail. Also helped at the time that oldest daughter was yoga instructor. Dropped from 184 Lbs. to 160 in that time. Since my body needs 1400 calories just to exist, and I was burning approximately 400-600 calories at yoga first thing in the morning, I was at a 1800-2000 calorie deficit for the day. Also switched to eating clean. Fruit, vegetables, nuts and healthy proteins, no fast food, no seed oils, and no HFCS. Have kept around 160 lbs. with ease. Covid closed the yoga studios for two years but I will be returning for the “Sweat”. BTW have sold the Md. homestead and moved to the treasure coast of Florida. Will now be known as Mark in the Sunshine State.
Once past the data and numbers in any media broadcast or report is not worth my precious time. I am thankful for your reports and to know there are others who can still think rationally and critically.
All the global warming now aka climate change hysteria just keeps getting dumb and dumber. To think we can effectively control or change without causing our own damage to the climate is hubris. How much carbon is the current war in Ukraine producing? Blowing up the undersea gas pipeline? How much methane was pumped into the environment? A lot more than all the farting cows I bet. Like George I am also on a major league weight reduction program, though started about a month before he did. Last time I did this, just after my separation, I lost 60 useless pounds over about 9 months and kept it off for many years with little effort … until I found the best restaurant meal deal of anywhere anytime for lunches and started to eat a BIG lunch daily (for about $4.50/meal.
(Thank you Krogers!! … NOT!! [this was a test program for them, only rolled out at one location nationwide] Your food was excellent, the service was superb, all items made from scratch daily and as healthy as if YOU made the food at home from scratch too … but OMG the serving sizes were HUGE, and with good fresh food that tasted unbelievably good – their many cooks in the kitchen each specializing in one type of food or baking were top notch, they had to be losing a ton of money each week on this test program – how could I resist, most restaurant meals didn’t even come close to comparing, and I DID NOT! LOL!!)
Anyway I am now down almost 19 pounds in 3 months, or about 6 pounds per month. Tough to stay with the program, also a somewhat modified Keto diet system, but as long as I see steady progress I will keep it up. Was not nearly as heavy when I started as I was when I separated years ago, but I now want to take my weight lower than where I stabilized after that 60# drop, (still have 31 pounds to go). Age wise I decided it was sort of Now Or Never. Still on no drugs of any sort, and want to keep it that way. (do walk 2 to 4 miles a day about 5 days a week for just general exercise).
Keep up the diet and push up the exercising a bit.
OH and a few of things I learned long ago from my first time around:
*Don’t try to lose the weight too fast … your body will want to put it back on right away if you do that
*Cut out ALL items that you can with a high sugar content. Our human bodies developed WITHOUT having extra sugar available other than seasonal fruit sugars. Obviously NO sugar for drinks etc – and remember the sugar substitutes are being found to have BAD STUFF resulting from using them
*Cut out ALL grain type food oils, directly consumed (margarine) or used for cooking (yep even Canola Oil). The human body developed with the oils being consumed or used for cooking being Animal FATS (ie: lard), and to a lesser extent things like Olive Oil or Coconut oil (unfortunately both of those have low temperature scorching points, so hard to use for any frying)
Grains did not enter the human diet in a big way until about 5000 years ago when humans began to cultivate grains for the first time. Humans did consume grains before then, but only in limited amounts from the wild plants that produced them. The Human Body thus has NOT developed over the long term with a heavy consumption of grains. Keep grains consumption moderate and only use the types of grains that retain as much of their native food qualities as possible, such as using only 100% WHOLE WHEAT (ie: the entire grain is used versus only the inner part of the wheat germ, ie: which is marketed as “Wheat Bread” … which is NOT 100% WHOLE wheat) when ever consuming breads etc.. Brown Rice is more preferable for the same reason over White Rice.
When preparing your own fried foods think about using lard instead of any of the grain oils.
OH … and lots of green leafy things, those were consumed by humans throughout their history of development of the human animal (some UNPROCESSED nuts would also qualify since humans would have collected and eaten those too) .
Good luck to any who are on a diet or going on a diet. Remember, the losing of the weight is only the first stage of the what you are doing. Ending up with good eating habits and then keeping the weight off afterwards is actually the end goal, not the weight loss itself.

You can find Ezekiel bread (sprouted whole grain bread) in many grocery stores in the “Health Food”/Ethnic Food section. Most times it is in the frozen food part of the “Health Food”/Ethnic Food section.
Kroger stocks it for sure but not sure about the other major stores in my city.

The coinkydoinks of last week that I feel I was experiencing may finally have traveled full circle. I told you way back that with dieting, you will always be a little bit hungry. Not giving in to ‘satisfy’ that urge is the hardest part of dieting psychology. You are doing well, George. Keep it up! The only other extreme dieting I did (besides keto… twice) was when I got new shoes and started training for my first marathon. The endorphins were addicting, and hunger disappeared as I extended my time length running. I went from 190 down to 145 in about seven months. Looked at myself in a mirror and saw a skeleton looking back. Then I started eating a bit more and backed off the long runs. I was only in my late 20s then, and don’t recommend it for us ‘old men’ now. I did finish my marathon. Not in dramatic time, but I finished… and that was my goal. It took five years to forget the pain and get stupid enough to try it again, but I did.
A liquid diet for diverticulitis and subsequent colon resection will drop an ‘easy'(?!) 25 lbs in a couple months, and dramatically lowered my blood pressure, too. Can’t recommend that path, though. It is slowly creeping up on me again. Gotta exercise more.
