    • Serious..they don’t have a clue !! When it comes down to the wire they will be caught scraping questioning what if.. my older sibling asked me why I have the pantry I do..I said..I almost died of starvation.. he has less than a weeks provisions..
      The thing is its not a part of their lifestyles !!! if you haven’t been there you don’t know.. like my children..my mini me said dad doesn’t buy tools you buy tools my dad buys fun temporary experiences.. my grand daughters husband planted wheat..he was trying to figure out getting a grinder.. I explained why I have what I have to the grand daughter..and no worries I have a grinder for them..
      I have in the past questioned my life experiences.. hell if it can happen it will..in a group I was in in my youth the people there use to razz me..because I hadn’t made more of myself.. I was stumped and plaques at a young age.. it was clear there wouldn’t ever be a way for me to succeed.
      BUT the question I keep thinking is. were these binder ended or a gateway to now ???..clearly I wouldn’t be who I am today if I had never experienced what I did.
      I can make most of the creature comforts that give one a quality of life.. not many can I became a tool slut out of necessity.. I can see the pain on the expressions of others.. I can’t even give you a number on how much I have given or gone out of my way for others in similar situations…most don’t see it..those in power don’t have a clue! the people in that group that thought everyone was A drooling idiot..they bought the business model.. sure the opportunities and events gave them a false peace..when it truly goes down the rabbit hole the events I experienced gave me strength in ways and abilities most just take for granted..

          everyone …everyone..is a genius in their own field.. for example let me refer to the can man.. IQ.. he spent his whole life living under bridges and in dumpsters..he suffered from PTSD from the Korean war.. he survived what most of us wouldn’t be able to.. his eyes spotted things I didnt..he was a genius on street smarts.. the two little African American girls.. pre teen..great kids.. they have seen things and survived that most of us wouldn’t.. my grand daughter.. at five took apart and put back together a puzzle that I seen professors with an IQ of over 150 struggle with in less than five minutes.. then told me ..I’m bored grandpa..seeing patterns in an abstract isn’t anything special or great.. its the ability to take advantage of the opportunities that pass each of us all the time..I believe this is where I believe the Chinese and russia,, the UK and Japan definitely India..although India that opens the flood gates of information and teaching has an extremely high amount ofignorance..under educated ..
          the wife of a great man.. I had the pleasant opportunity to know and be friends with my sea daddy and really was the one that got me interested in frequencies….his wife a wonderful woman.. ( I have to write the kids to see how moms doing..) anyway he shared his life with me.. he was stationed in the middle east and like most men..A little sloppy..its a mans way.. he wanted to hire a maid.. living in the middle east he quickly discovered that hiring a woman as a maid was not going to happen..women and children especially the females..had no rights at all..the couldn’t have a job or education.. if he wanted one he had to own her..( dont get me going on the marriage rituals or licensing..) so on a day of rest there they would line the women up in the center square and auction them off.. he went and bought his maid..the place he was living wasn’t on base but a place in town she had one bedroom he had the other and she made his meals cleaned his place mended and washed his clothes.. from what he told me at the time his plan was to give her freedom or resell her when new orders came in..instead he got attached and they fit together perfectly..she showed curiosity to the experiments he played with and his books..so he insisted she get an education..she loved learning..he pushed it..her curiosity on learning.. they ended up getting married and she excelled in learning.. became one of the top two hundred most influential female doctors on the planet..up until a couple years ago she still wanted to be called doctor.. wonderful woman..she took good care of him through his hospice days he was a home surrounded by those he cared for.. now he never said anything always wore bunny slippers at work..who gets away with that in the military .. then one day they were going to have a rare inspection..I couldn’t shine shoes to save my soul..I was afraid..he says don’t worry about your dam shoes lol..day came everyone in dress blues out he comes..dam gold from head to toe and a odd medal on a ribbon.. we get in the lineup the dignitaries the sec of defense the cno everyone you g to do a drive by.. everyone at attention the cars were driving by and screeched to a halt in front of him.. the dignitaries got out walked in front of him snapped to attention then saluted him.. I was flabbergasted.. later I asked him what he did to get that..he said ..I did what I thought was the RIGHT THING..he deserved two of those one for his wife.. the do unto others..she wouldn’t have ever been able to go as far as she did if it wasn’t for him to get her the opportunity to take advantage of those rare opportunities that cross each of us..her passion in her field due to her lifestyle as a child.
          my brother that ran multi national companies he was able to take advantage of his opportunities.. he said you know you hit on it he thought if I had pushed it further .. when I built a satellite receiver.. he said you could have been the top in the field they weren’t available as t that time still considered classified information.. why didn’t you pursue it.. I just said Satan at the hospital collection agency.. I got married to the wrong person that had one of those dalkon shield iud’s the medical bills killed me then the company threw everyone under the bus then a step child fell from a tree imposing himself on a tree branch shoving it through his chest going between the lung and hear by millimeter.. they flew a surgical team in.. couple months in the icu.. my health insurance..well the boss was playing the precious metals and stock market ..he took the Money the employees paid for insurance and even though we had an insurance card was worthless..I made three bucks an hour.. half million owed to Satan and he was agressive..its the American way.. I couldn’t go further if I wanted to..I couldn’t take advantage of the opportunity..
          I tried at the cabinet shop to..the boss had a company challenge.. if any employee could see a change that would save the company ten grand a year or more and suggested it.. if they researched it and adopted the change ..he took you out to eat at the country club.. that was my opportunity.. I went every month for over a decade..at first it was important changes..in the end I put insulting my stupid changes..he hated to get desert.. an employee didn’t deserve eating a desert lol..I got one every month up until I quit.. it was about the sheet of paper..
          IQ means nothing at all..my grand daughter that solved a complicated puzzle.. she wanted to be an astronauts and go to mars.. she won’t ever be able to take advantage of any opportunities that cross her path..while those that go to daddies preppy boy schools will always be on top.. consider our last administration.. obviously they were at the bottom of the list when brains was handed out .. they had the opportunity to take advantage..
          just imagine if we were like these other countries.. and pushed education and industry..instead we push ignorance and embellish and project and glorify criminal activities and treating others inhumanely. watch Primetime television one hour there’s thousands of crimes embellishment every hour..
          game shows where the winner is the one that can distribute the best sociopathic abilities.. pride in industry gone..

  5. I go for lentils because they are faster to cook and can be cooked mixed in with the rice– less fuel.

    Even on RA meds and the Carnivore diet I have days (weeks) where I’m in alot of pain. Supposedly , if I stop eating completely, I will become pain free even without meds. There is an old (1800s?) rice diet for people with rhumatoid arthritis where you start with only rice and sugar twice a day. I guess I just don’t see myself being very mobile without my drugs for very long, and there is no way to stockpile my drug due to tight pharmacy regulations.

    I bet alot of us are in the same boat.

    • I used an elimination diet to find all the magic inflammation vectors added to processed food ingredients and just processed food period. Not an easy thing, starts with a water fast, then re introducing organic “whole food” ingredients, i.e. the way nature created it without any processing. This will lead to to start with fruits and veggies and plain fish or chicken. Seasoning added by me, and make sure that doesn’t have any malto dextrin. Not advice. Just what worked for me. What did I find? Wheat and wheat derivatives, and eggs if the chickens aren’t free range organic and eat wheat in their feed. Color me modified Paleo/Mediterranean/ due to Nord / EU dna. Hope you’re feeling better. And yes eating things with the magic ingredient sends my finger joints into a pain palace, and it’s identifiable /isolated to cause vector now. Thanks conglomo glyphosate propagators. LOL.

    • The Walmart 15 bean soup mix (the one with the spice pack) to which one adds LOTS of ham makes a great bean thick soup (like thick chilli) which one can use over corn bread, biscuts, or just eat in a bowl as a meal.

      Have lots of beans of various varieties at home … but in the winter just love to do that 15 bean soup mix, makes so much it totally fills the crock pot for it’s all day simmer. With it’s included seasoning package it doesn’t take much more in the way of seasoning to get rid of that bland taste that beans often have. (I pre-soak the beans overnight, though not sure that is necessary with an all day slow simmer in the crock pot).

      For “fuel economy” one could use a half bag vs a full one and cook it up in a pressure cooker, but I must admit I haven’t tried that though I do have a pressure cooker hanging around (somewhere).

      George your pricing for Rice is way off. Go to any Asian supermarket and you can get 100# of really good rice (NOT the stuff that most Americans buy, but the GOOD stuff – BUT – be sure to test out different types first before you buy 100# of the type of rice you select) for under $100 if you buy it in 50# bags like Asians do.

      Around here the Asian grocery markets generally have about 20 different varieties of rice to choose from. My favorite is also what two Chinese friends, who are from China, like to use. “Kokuho” from California. It comes in two varieties, the basic “Yellow bagged” version and the sweeter and more expensive “Kokuho Rose” which is what is served by many high end Chinese restuaramts.

      For long term storage, no. 10 cans are hard to beat; however the cost per lb is a lot more than bags or buckets. Biggest bang for the buck is to buy large bags, then dry can yourself using plastic buckets, metallized liner bags and oxygen absorber packets. 100 lbs of any one thing, no matter how nutritious, is likely to induce thoughts of suicide eventually. A stack of dehydrated #10 cans is the middle ground between 25 year freeze dried (FD) and shorter term dry rations.

      The dry canning is easy to do, and works reasonably well for the medium term. The main concern in stocking up on dehydrated anything is fuel availability, and the amount of time required to prepare. Lentils cook faster than beans, and don’t need to be soaked overnight.

      Dry canning extends the life of muesli. It comes cheaper in BIG bags.

      Dehydrated rations that don’t seem to cook up quite palatable can potentially be resurrected with a pressure cooker. The pressure cooker cuts cooking time for the more palatable menus items as well.

      If you are trying to keep a low profile on infrared and smoke plumes, especially in die-off season, then freeze dried, retort or store-bought wet canned foods are best. You might want to pick up a couple of good alcohol burners, and a stock of the mildly denatured ethyl alcohol (with a little isopropyl) that you can use for fuel. Grain alcohol will do in a pinch, although price per ounce is very expensive. Fairly pure ethanol fuel is generally safe indoors with routine ventilation.

      The Eddy stoves fits in the same hole as a Trangia, for the most part. They haven’t had the titanium version in stock in quite a while. It probably is inferior to other stove metallurgies, but I still want one.

      Basically you can boil water or heat up a small pot of pre-cooked with one of the small alcohol stoves.

      I have several different types of stoves and fuels on hand. You never know what the tide will wash in, figuratively speaking.

      If you are going to run portable stoves, then think about getting some heat resistant gloves, a metal longneck lighter and a fire extinguisher.

      • “Solo” wood stoves are a good option for cooking in a SHTF situation..

        Various sizes up to a full size oudoor compfire fireplace are available. The smallest ones are backpacker size … but one doesn’t need to carry fuel since one just picks it up as one needs it.

        Solo stoves use a self generated air vortex concept to burn the gasses put off by the buring wood to effectively double+ it’s heat output from the wood … and they do work well for maximum heat with minimal wood usage (outdoor use only of course)

    Last year I did an experiment – just because I could. It was a test run., of sorts.
    I watered my entire vegetable garden with a 12 volt submersible pump in a 45 gallon rain barrel. Took a lot longer than usual – but it worked very well. Very do-able if it comes to that.
    My vegetable garden; It start years back when I wanted fresh tomatoes and onions. Two raised beds. It is now twelve raised beds – ten 5 gallon half barrel planters., a dozen two gallon planters and probably a dozen smaller clay planters., and a three tier, five gallon bucket rack. [ Maybe our host will post a pic of it – I sent it to him a while back. ]
    My Early Girl tomato plants are 14th generation Beef Stake – 12 years – cantaloupe 12 years – red, yellow and orange sweet bell peppers are now all ten years., old world water melon also.
    Starting a survival garden was not on the list. It just happened to grow with the years.., and learning how to save seeds and continue that veggie to the next planting was a natural course of events. I think they are now genetically altered to this climate, soil, sun., watering schedules – all that makes them do their best. I can’t prove that – but it makes sense. And it’s not hard to do.
    Despite the name calling and labeling – it is not “labor intensive”.., it is however very time consuming., especially in early Spring – with all the soil prep-work., and planting. But it’s no big deal – I’m getting a lot from it. And I had to learn a lot along the way.., even canning.
    Getting up early to weed, prune, water, prop and play soft jazz music – while I wander around with my first cuppa – has become a regular and enjoyable ‘duty’. Quiet, peaceful and slice of “my time”. And.., we are getting some pretty good benefits at the end. Including ‘mental’. Walking out first thing in the morning and seeing the ‘fruits of my labor’.., spread-out over all those raised beds.., makes it all worth while. I have accomplished something [ and nobody got hurt in the process. ]
    It is not all that hard to do – info & supplies are all readily available. You just have to go do it.

  19. My father was a prepper, he died 2 years ago at age 81. I inherited all his patriot supply food. He had many buckets from 2015. I opened one up and there was mouse droppings in the sealed bucket. Must have come that way from the manufacturer. I regret not recording it and sharing that info!!

    81% of republicans
    79% of democrats, and
    79% of independents

    believe Trump should take any action necessary, to ensure Iran doesn’t have, and can’t EVER get, a nuke or the means to deliver it.

    I don’t know where the poll is. I DO know that it’s nearly impossible to get an 80% consensus on anything. I’m not even sure 80% of Americans believe the world is round. If anyone is interested, they can do their own damn’ research. I merely saw it on the cafè TV when I was wolfing down brunch.

    However, I’m going to guess Mr. Trump is doing just fine with his fan club because even if that entire 19% of republicans who are not in favor of us bombing Iran are ALL MAGA, that still puts him well over 50% with his base…

    • Would they say the same thing if the poll also said if we attack that 20,000 American Service Men/Women were going to die and up to 5,000,000 Americans were going to be displaced from their homes – permanently?

      Unlike with Iraq a WAR with Iran IS going to result in Blowback, right into the home front.

      We just don’t yet know what that Blowback will entail, but it probably will result in the loss of at least one aircraft carrier, maybe it’s support ships too, plus some of the smaller US bases in the Middle Eat being overrun like those people in Libya were overrun (no survivors with that event) … AND … it WILL result in some sorts of attacks domestically (unlike with both Gulf Wars) which depending upon the targets could be very bad.
