Wherein we propose that Psychology and Medicine have missed something huge.  It’s our noticing that humans – like computers – have differing performance based on indexing strategies.  A lesson rediscovered as Ai has advanced.

I asked Ai to assess this theory and the feedback was positive: “The idea that humans can learn from AI about the power of multiple indexing is spot-on and has a lot of juice.”

Juice that humans can learn, too.  Highly indexed thinking is a skill.

    • Interesting checklist you laid out, and I get where you’re coming from — especially on the idea that any population “die-off” will be slow-rolled to avoid mass panic. That’s a very real consideration. But here’s where I’d argue our strategy gives us a better shot at not just surviving, but thriving in that kind of drawn-out scenario.

      We’re 250 miles out from the big population centers — far enough to be clear of the first waves of chaos, resource grabs, and crackdowns, but still within reach if we need to trade or reconnect with family. Our elevation — 550 feet — isn’t bunker depth, but it’s high enough to shrug off storm surge and flooding while still workable for year-round growing and water management. Redundancy is the key: diesel for power and mobility, seed bank for renewal, water catchment for resilience. Guns? Sure — but the real point is deterrence. Nobody mistakes this place for an easy target.

      I know there’s a lot of talk about GHz-triggered nanoparticles, pole-shift winds, or stashing BTC as insurance. Maybe those matter if that’s the particular curveball the universe throws. But none of that replaces the fundamentals: calories, clean water, reliable shelter, and power. That’s the real baseline. With seeds and catchment, we can grow. With diesel, we can bridge the grid collapse. With distance, we can keep quality of life while the cities cannibalize themselves.

      So while I respect the high-tech hedge play, the first layer is always the physical survivability stack. That’s where we’ve put our energy. Because in the end, it’s not just about weathering a die-off — it’s about staying strong enough to build the next chapter after. The folks who master the basics, and make them sustainable, will be the ones left standing.

      And yes, we plan for all the risks, even the “small” ones. Think smallpox, and ask any Native how that worked out. As for crypto? Nice on paper — but no power means no crypto-con. If some fool rolls up asking, “Can I tap your redundant power so I can buy something from another damn fool?” — let’s just say if it’s not me with the AK, it’ll be Elaine or G2 with the AR explaining reality. Around here, we don’t waste. We don’t feed foolish. Seeds and water catchment — now you’re talkin’.

        • after i shared that. i was thinking about that time this fella at the mines wanted to fight me. i could of easily whipped his ass. he kept jawing at me. i told him i didnt come here to fight you. i came here to get away from life and work. when that didnt work, he tried to set me up to get fired.

          i was sitting out there when the storm came with the Monarch butterfly on my knee the day before. i have told that story a few times on here and it is on shavaq.

          the next day i was praying and meditating and a strange thought not my own entered into my mind. call in sick to work tonight. it was all over time that night. and i wasnt sick. i shrugged it off. im not missing out on a 12 to 14 hour day of OT. i packed my lunch and got in the shower. in the shower again i heard, Call in sick for work tonight. i thought about it and answered that is alot of chedar to leave on the table and i never call in sick, even if i am sick. i stepped out of the shower and heard it again, Call in sick to work tonight. so i said okay. i called my foreman and he said ya everyones got bass fishing fever. hope you feel better tomorrow. we are working tommorrow night. i said thanks.

          i came into work the next day we all got on the bus to ride up to the mines and get in our trains and get our loads. that fella who wanted to fight me sat right next to me. we take off then the Big Boss puts his pick up truck infront of the buss. says hold up.

          he comes and gets on the bus hands that fella who wanted to fight me his final paycheck and says we dont need you anymore good luck to you. he had been working in those mines for over a decade.

          he gets off the buss and that i was the last i had ever seen of him.

          later that night my foreman said that fella tried to get you fired. he said Andy is always sittin on his cell phone at the conda station. the one place we crossed over a county road when heading to the stacker. being on your cell phone while driving a train is a big no no.
          so last night the Big Bosses set up a sting to catch you on your cell phone at the conda cross over. even i didnt know they were setting up a sting operartion.

          you called in sick and his train was broke down so i put him in your train because you called in sick.

          and when he got out to the conda station he has to stop. he got on his cell phone and the Big Bosses had places a camera in there to catch you on your cellphone. it only captured you from the chest down on the love feed. they thought they caught you red handed. then they borded the train and saw it was him driving it. not you.

          he said btw i have 12 hours on sunday work monitoring the pump stations. easy work. we will pay ya your train drivers wage and of course double time for working sunday. which was more than i would have made if i didnt call in sick. i said Hell Yeah. that is easy money.

          then my foreman said,

          He tried to set you up to get fired and got himself fired. i said I felt bad for him. he had a house, a wife and 4 kids. he said dont feel too bad. he did it to himself.

          shortly after i heard he lost his house because he had on his Mining and Train license record driving train while on a cell phone and couldnt find a job. then i heard his wife left him, filed for divorce and took his kids with her.

          i on the other hand, had nothing to lose.

          i was just there to spend time with THE DUDE, drive trains, do some bass fishing and get away from all the busyness of life after i ran shit out at the stadiums.

          my Foreman did ask me, how did you know to call in sick that night? i said God told me. He said if God tells you anything else, please let me know. i laighed and said Will do.

          Sometimes you have to say no to everyone else to say Yes to God.

          when you do that, God says No to everyone else and Yes to you.

        In a long term grid down scenario, tokens are investment superman cryptonite.
        Best to concentrate on scenarios that are survivable, rather than bad SF plots. Water, shelter food and the like are important, not IT rubbish.
        Ure likely lifespan in a firefight is maybe 6 rounds from all parties.

          A magnetic pole shift is no big deal, and is happening constantly.

          A sudden rotational pole shift is a physical impossibility, without the introduction of enough outside energy to shatter Earth, many times over.

          One thing I noticed about the “prepper community” within minutes of dropping in on my first “prepper site” is such sites are an open ended selling scheme whose principal function is to sell stuff, then generate improbable scenarios by which to sell more stuff. If they run out of things to use to scare their readers, followers, or whatever into buying more stuff, they lose their income stream and have to get real jobs.

          I sent George a graphic I made nearly 20 years ago (pie chart, IIRC), showing various “bad situations” ranging from minor pyroclastic eruptions to a cosmic burst from a supernova, and grouped by survivability. There’s a whole bunch of bad stuff which could occur, which would be ELEs, either for our species, or for our entire planet. I told him then, it was a waste of time, money, resources, and mental/emotional capital to prep for any of these. Indeed, no one should waste their time prepping for anything that was worse than a “near-ELE” (like Yellowstone or global thermonuclear war.) Most of these would be survived purely randomly, so any investment beyond normal survivalist preps was a waste of time and resources.

          For over 30 years I have advocated prepping for an EMP, because it is the worst likely-survivable event, and planning to survive an EMP pretty much encompasses prepping for any other survivable issue (floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, military invasion or Martial law, etc.)

          I actually enjoy watching the movie “2012.” I consider it a cartoon, not based in reality. Krakatoa erupted in August of 1883. Its eruption created what is believed to be the loudest sound ever heard, on Earth — an explosion which was heard 2600 miles away. Its eruption gave the entire world extraordinarily beautiful sunsets for nearly two years. Yellowstone is several thousand times as powerful as Krakatoa. It is entirely likely that should it erupt, its ash alone will kill every living thing in North America. Then there’s that “no sunlight or energy for 40 years” thing, while its dust settles out of the atmosphere and plant growth is stunted or dies off completely. Planetary temps will drop significantly and thrust Earth into a major ice age, and two generations of human survivors will forget how to run the machinery of civilization, as the effort to survive occupies all their time. Not worth planning for…

          it was mandatory reading for a class with discussions after.. none of us would survive ..the studies done on animals in the permafrost was what intrigued me.. then when I seen one of the mamoths that had the story about it’s discovery..that’s when I really thought about it .the great what if..the books are available on Amazon .. personally the fictional story written around the actual study is pretty good science fiction.. that is great reading if you like a fantasy book written on an actual study.. enjoy..I keep both next to my chair just to reread it occasionally

        • It’s called a Pole Shift to scare you witless. Magnetic field REVERSALS really are no big deal and have happened countless times in the past.

          The deep sea drilling program provided some of the first hard evidence for plate tectonics/continental drift. The magnetic striping (alternating bands of N and S polarity) on both sides of the Mid Atlantic Ridge matched perfectly and showed that the North American and Eurasian Plates are moving away from each other along the line of the Ridge.

          As for the dreaded Pole Shift? The sun does it every 11 years. Most of us here have lived through, and survived 6 or 7 of these cycles.

        • As Ray noted, magnetic pole shifts happen. There are people talking the physical pole shift scenario out there based on sketchy geological evidence; but getting worked up over that is just nuts.

          Doesn’t matter if you win, unless you kill every participant who’s not on your side (and cover the blood, and dispose of the bodies…) The reason I continually mention “hidey hole” is to emphasize the word HIDEY! If your location is known before the neighborhood gets sorted out, it is untenable. You will flee or die, period. The more you fight to hold your fortress, the more people will become convinced it is worth taking at any cost. Eventually, they will.

          The only way to guarantee you win a gunfight, is to not participate.

          If the SHTF, the only way to nearly guarantee you’ll not be forced into a gunfight is to become invisible, FOR MONTHS, No smoke, no shiny stuff, no tracks, no (or almost no) talking, and so forth. If you have radio comms, you use them sparingly, only when necessary, and only for necessary communications. You don’t fly a drone, and you don’t use night-vision surveillance. My cellphone has an “infrared mode” which will pick up an IR LED on a security cam from hundreds of yards away. When there is no light, an IR LED is a lighthouse beacon. I’m sure it’s not the only cellphone so-equipped…

      • although we differ in stratagy i do value what you offer and have learned a Great Deal.

        my strategy is much different. although i have many options that are available. such as a spot for 3 plus me, in an old underground titan missle base. if ya havent watched the first season of Fallout. its pretty good.

        My stratagy works just like this:

        i walked out the Mall in Alderwood after watching a movie at the Imax there. found a brand new spoon on the ground laying next to my car. a really nice and fancy real silver spoon. i said cool. i picked it up, looked around said thank you. threw it on my back seat of my car.

        2 weeks later, i get up at 330 am, prayed and meditated, packed my lunch drove down to fife to do some post hole digging on a side hustle that paid cash. went to eat my lunch. opened my yogurt and relized i forgot to put a spoon in my lunch box. i looked in the rearview mirror and saw the one i found 2 weeks prior laying on the back seat. so i retreived it from the back seat ate my yogurt with it.

        this sort of occurances happen all the time. all the time.

        Now, if THE DUDE cares enough about me to make sure I have a spoon for my yogurt two weeks before i need one, something as small as that HE provides in Advance, i dont really worry about having enough bit coin or space invaders or governments or A.I. and well…..pretty much everything else.

        as much as you are diciplined in getting up early and writing daily. i am as diciplined in prayer and meditation. if i have to be to work at 3am? i will get up at 130am to spend an hour in prayer and meditation. in the year that i have been at my place every single person that has spent the night here has seen me up every morning doing exactly that. and several of them asked questions about it, and most of those who asked questions later followed suit by doing their own practice in a way that works for them.

        it works for me.

        you know i dont actually invest in gold, or bitcoin or even the stockmarket. i have played with cryptos a few times and everytime Coinbase robbed me. everytime coinbase scewed me out of money. but i dont place shorts or puts. i dont buy stocks. i have a teamsters pension but other than that i dont play the markets.

        what i do though, is i use the same investment stratagies (elliot wave) and others you all do, same princples -> in investing in my relationship with THE DUDE and My ~After life ~ retirement.

        and that has paid big dividens in this life. such as being backstage at every show in town, driving trains, personal health and many other advantages i have over pretty much everyone. such as finding a spoon before i ever needed one and finding a master key before it is ever lost. or deciding not to shoot a friend in the leg for fucking my lady then they shoot themselves in the leg for me. and many many other examples i have given on here and other places.

        so i dont worry about the wind or the rain, the markets, the space invaders or even the world governments, the black hats or the white hats or the Global Costal event, if there ever is such a thing im sure i will recieve a nice boat or surfboard to ride it out prior to it ever happening.

        that doesnt make my strategy better. just different. same principles. just applied in a differnt way.

      • I sure sparked a dark debate…… a group was discussing our support of war in the middle east.. just like on here my opinion is.. this is a ancient religious war.. you can’t fight faith..or beliefs.. instead the answer I see was to focus on the faith they claim.. it was taken since I quoted the Qur’an that I was for the horrors that have been made where my debate was you wouldn’t destroy the whole state of California just because there’s a rogue gang or pedo group..

    • Earth is a nickel-core gyroscope with a 3950 mile radius. Its rotational poles can not shift more than a few nanoseconds of arc per year, without the introduction of an unimaginably large influx of energy. Such an influx would destroy everything above, on, and under Earth’s surface and probably sling our atmosphere, water, and soil (at least down to bedrock), into space or flash-incinerate the planet down to its core, before altering its rotational pivot.

      BTW, if the atmosphere were not stripped and the planet not shattered by a “pole shift,” the winds generated by the change in direction would be 1004.16mph or greater. One would probably have to be 1000 miles (or more) inland, and at an altitude of 5000-7000 feet to survive the tsunamis.

      I suggest you find a better class of nutjob by which to direct your preparedness. The current class seems to have failed both 5th Grade physics and 5th Grade arithmetic…

        I love that newspaper.. the kids at NASA use to take a picture of the south pole each year when they would drop the stake..one year they got..steel toe snow boots.. yup .. that was brilliant.. so they were using them for fire.. they sent me a pair.. best dam snow boots I ever owned.. where the cold there would cut their toes off it was good enough for here in the wastelands..lots to read on the sun.. one of my bucket list items was to see both poles.. the kids dropping the poles when I was really sick they put blocks on and I was able to see both poles at the same time..it made my day..I got to go with one of the astronauts as they did routine walk the same way.. did I ever mention I think the kids at NASA rock..they sure rocked my simple world…

    AI’s fatal weakness is a complete inability to discern the value (or lack, thereof) of the data it retrieves. For instance, ChatGPT acquires nearly 80% of all its data from just two sources: Wikipedia and Reddit. Can it be focused to use a different dataset for an individual or problem? Obviously, yes. Will the average user ever focus it in such a manner? IMO, no. This means AI (or at least the AI tool that’s most-used by average folks) will never produce an above-average answer, reply, or response, nor a solution that’s as likely as simply asking at one’s favorite bar or coffeehouse (where one can discern whether anyone polled has actual knowledge of the topic being polled…)

    If that entity was human I would call it a “LYING SACK OF SHIT!!”

    I now have personally now seen AI actively LIE and MAKE UP SHIT for very important stuff, including 3 different Court Filings it helped to author (in all three cases the attorney caught the LIES before they made the Court Filings – who knows about other stuff that they didn’t catch) . That is NOT utlizing “Precision”.

    If AI was my employee it would have been FIRED ON THE SPOT … and FOR CAUSE.

    Maybe AI will eventually “learn” that it has to be what we humans call “HONEST”, but so far I see absolutely NO indication that is happening.

  9. Sorry to post off topic. I am a new Linux user, certainly no expert. For those considering switching from Windows, what I would recommend is to create a USB drive using the free utility Ventoy so you can save multiple live Linux ISO files to one drive and boot and try them off of a single drive. At startup, you will see a menu of all the ISO files on the drive. Just arrow down or up to the file you want to boot.

    A NVME m.2 drive in an enclosure connected via USB-C will give better performance.

    The number of distributions is overwhelming. For me, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Zorin and Linux Lite are my favorites. I tested them on old hardware unable to run Windows 11.

    Debian in considered very stable. Linux Mint Cinnamon is very popular.

    If you are using Windows 10 and the CPU has the SSE 4.2 instruction set and POPCNT capable, you can run Windows 11 24H2. I haven’t used it, but Flyby11 will check your system, download the Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft and do an in place upgrade from Windows 10 keeping all of your data and aps.

    I did an in place upgrade using a USB created with the Rufus utility on a PC that didn’t meet the TPM 2.0 requirement without problems. Disconnect from the internet before starting the in place upgrade using a USB drive.

    There are more Americans out of work than there are jobs open for the first time since April 2021, the July JOLTS report showed.

    With manufacturing down six months in a row., and JOLTS report like that – it’s gonna be a while before any kind of “up tick” emerges.

    Which raises a question in my mind. Just how did the recent report on the GDP show such a high level of out-put ?

    The NASDAQ and S&P500 are up, marginally – Dow is down just over 220 points.

    Gold is up again.., up $46 an ounce [ 1.28%] And, the futures look strong.

      I was just having this discussion with my daughter this morning..she was talking about how hard it is right now.. I told her your not the only one.. everyone is feeling it..we aren’t buying anything.. I was talking to a young woman..her husband is sick lost his job..they just bought a house for a half million.. I can’t tell her but they will lose their home..what jobs are available won’t even pay the taxes on it.. she is freaking out.. the destruction of all civilizations isn’t an EMP or nuclear war.. they amplify it but it’s the Domino collapse . usually begins with a business model that benefits one side of the scales more than the other .she of course assumed that rhere are all these free resources available..only to discover they are not there .I told her to wait to dance with the devil trying to destroy her from healthcare collection..they dont care..
      we are just at the beginning of this collapse.. the real scary is most jobs don’t pay enough for low income housing..
