I wasn’t in Muncie, I was crossing Northern Indiana and saw this in Lake Webster, on a cstore news stand, and took a pic of it. Apparently, there are a number of “Lewis & Clark” fan clubs and historical groups, scattered about the country. From my glance at this article (it was front page, above the fold) I got the distinct impression that all these folks are severely lacking in actual knowledge regarding the expedition and its participants, and would likely pay a small fortune in gratuities and honorariums to anyone who could lecture them on the explorers, their exploits, families, probably even the mundane aspects of life during the expedition, especially if it were sprinkled with stuff they didn’t already know.
BTW, the Muncie Star-Press is a Gannett newspaper. That means it scarfs at least half its content from USAToday and has a highly-inflated idea as to its worth. Its website sux and it took me forfrickinever (actually only about 10mins – It just felt like forever) to find that article…

Daniel on the other hand was looked at like a Saint as they discussed him on the evening porch coffee discussions.. then the ultimate insult and humiliation was. when he came back he came back with a young Native mother with a child that lived in a hut or shelter in their woods.. the lake that we read about was nothing more than a snake I tested stock pond.. the struggles of the early pioneers..we seldom hear the other.. take the father and his kids that escaped the slums of seattle..they are the same age as my two grandsons..but because of their life experiences and struggles.. they act more like twenty something year old kids.. way more mature than my two grandkids.. they walked by and we visited yesterday..they slipped up ..they hadn’t had a meal in almost a week..so I loaded them up with food and vegitables. maybe thirty pounds of meat and the same in vegetables.. they walk dogs rake yards etc. to earn money to buy food..but mentally they are way older than my two grandkids..for the girls I’d do all I can to give thema hand up..not so much for the dad..talked to the wife about opening our spare bedroom so they could be kids again.. no she doubted that the dad would give us full custody..but they do know they won’t go hungry..I will make sure they have food..
Dam that reminds me..I have beets to process today..phew…fifty pounds worth..and plant garlic.. I will plant about three hundred toes..
