CPI – CP Owed
Just in from Labor:
“The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.3 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis in June, after rising 0.1 percent in May, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 2.7 percent before seasonal adjustment.
The index for shelter rose 0.2 percent in June and was the primary factor in the all items monthly increase. The energy index rose 0.9 percent in June as the gasoline index increased 1.0 percent over the month. The index for food increased 0.3 percent as the index for food at home rose 0.3 percent and the index for food away from home rose 0.4 percent in June.
The index for all items less food and energy rose 0.2 percent in June, following a 0.1-percent increase in May. Indexes that increased over the month include household furnishings and operations, medical care, recreation, apparel, and personal care. The indexes for used cars and trucks, new vehicles, and airline fares were among the major indexes that decreased in June.
The line that matters is All Items Less Food and Energy. Annual change Year-On-Year (YoY) is? 2.9 percent. Any last-minute prayer sessions at rates coming down will likely remain on hold. After the number gold turned positive…
Tomorrow, the Fed’s Beige Book will be along. While the market has been drifting higher, forecasts of the S&P hitting 7,500 still seem a bit remote. As of the pre-opening prices, futures had the paper-chase up at the bottom of long-term trend.
Which has us twiddling and pondering the odds of a Turn-Around Tuesday. Still, gold and silver weren’t impressive in the pre-open, so a really scary (dust bunny visit) bout of inflation seemed unlikely early.
4RS (Reader Ray Rocks Russia Sanctions)
The nice thing about UrbanSurvival is that most of the people here are smarter than me. And they are kind enough to share it in our Comments section after each morning post. This morning’s from Reader Ray totally makes the point:
“Oh, woe is me. That $300 Swarovski pendant is gonna cost a thousand now. How will I ever survive the hit?
You’re a military dude. Stop and think. Exactly what does Russia export, that we can tariff? The uranium Hillary gave them control of? The titanium we make paint and airplanes out of? Maybe the triticale and semolina — what little we don’t import from Northern Italy, Croatia, and Slovenia?
The Congresscritter is FOS. There is no tariff with which we can hit Russia directly. Trump is not going to pooch the China T&T deal he’s working, nor fuck India, by slamming Russia’s trading partners with tariffs. There is no sledgehammer. That’s utter balderdash, and wouldn’t fly in a freshman-level course on diplomacy (if there were such a thing.)
Remember what Russia wants:
1. Its warm-water port. This is non-negotiable.
2. A neutral buffer between the Euroweenies and Russia.
3. The guaranteed safety of the ethnic Russians who make up most of the population in the eastern 1/3 of Ukraine.
What Trump CAN do is threaten to sponsor Ukraine for NATO and send so much materiel to Ukraine that the Duma forces Putin to check out of the casino while they’re still ahead. The Russians aren’t afraid of Patriot batteries. Putin can build or buy drones for $250 that’ll carry a hand grenade worth of antipersonnel misery
(I still remember my Dad grousing because McNamara was spending ~100,000 1970 dollars for each VC we killed. One way drones that cost a thousand (or so) each is a rare bargain advancement in modern warfare. We’re not going to shoot down glorified quadcopters with Patriot missiles, but a swarm of a dozen flying grenades can take out a Patriot battery, and keep it out of action for days. What Putin IS afraid of is a war without purpose or end. Trump, who’s an actual fighter, threatening to prop up Ukraine indefinitely would give Mr. Putin an ulcer which I’d bet he hasn’t the stomach for.)
This is what’s going on.
Trump doesn’t want to send materiel to Ureup. THREATENING to do so is the best gambit he has right now.
Y’know, Zelensky is a billionaire? He did it all on the President’s $16,000/yr salary, too. That’s the other side of the coin. Biden sent Volod SO MUCH MONEY that he now believes he’s something special. Trump has to either inject some sense into Zelensky, or wait for the Russians to do so. This means, once Trump has Putin, he’ll have to go get Zelensky again. Slavs are a PITA to try and negotiate with…”
And since Ray penned that? Trump announces weapons for Ukraine after he allegedly asked Zelenskyy whether they can hit Moscow. Well, ain’t that just dandy?
“So what’s 3TM?”
Oh. Shorthand for Trump Talks Too Much. More Star Wars, less Jaw Wars.

Our Changing Times
Our consigliere checked in Monday – just back from a camping trip in the Upper Penninsula (MI) area. He was shocked at the number of Starlink antennas. They were literally all over the place.
“Don’t get me wrong,” he began. “it makes total sense for people who are mobile and want to watch an odd movie, need a hot-spot for their phone, and need email even on vacation….” He even spied a Starlink outside a tent.
After explaining how Canada’s telecom giants had put up cell towers on the southern-most part of inhabited Canadian soil. There are two cell phone towers on Pelee island: one for Bell and Telus (on the west side) and one for Rogers (on the northeast side). Apparently to harvest big international roaming charges from UP vacationers – he continued musing about the future of digital intrusion into recreational domains.
“I don’t know where this really leaves us…the numbers of places people can go to be really REMOTE are nearly gone.”
Nearly?
I didn’t want to break it to him: When son G2 goes snow-camping in the winter along the Pacific Crest Trail, he regularly checks in via satphone – has for years. If you want “remote” anymore, lots of luck.
Try Mars. No constellations there. Yet.
At the Ranch: Hydro Time and Slo-Mo-Shun’s
How up are you on your archaic hydroplane racing history?
Back in my news-chasing days, about this time of Summer, I’d be at the hydro pits in Seattle for the Seafair hydro races. A quick immersion study on Stan Sayres, Ted Jones, and Anchor Jensen is found at The Slo-mo-shun Saga – Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum, But, if you’re a real fan, see Apollo Mechanical Cup Hydroplane Races 2025 – Seafair which will begin 17 days from now. Though Lake Washington will be churned up with testing probably starting next week.
We’re going to be “domain jumping” this morning – into that topic we touched-on in Monday’s column. The one about domains. Because this is the time of year when old-school reporters remember early morning drizzle on many race days, where we learned much about the time domain.
Goes like this: When Slo-Mo-Shun IV was churning down the back stretch west of Mercer Island, the telephoto 600 mm lenses on the old tube type video cameras made it seem like like the boats were going slow. In fact, they could be edging toward 200 MPH.
That’s how media distorts time. Here in early World War 3 (the one that began with the bio-weapon drop in 2019) it’s useful to remember media changes the apparent speed of things. Telephoto lenses then and social media now. There’s a continuum to be studied there.
Waiting for the clock to tick up to high noon race time? Oh my God, this is when you conserve “time freeze” first-hand.
Summer nostalgia? Yeah, a bit, sure. Who could forget Mike Fitzsimmon’s calling the race or “riding bareback” on the fuel tank of an Outboard Performance Craft (OPC) tunnel boat hanging to a planing bronco just behind the driver over 100 on Lake Washington?
There’s a useful thing about perspective in some of my “crazy adventure-seeking” back in the day. Things that at the time seemed full-on crazy are now (coming up on 77) the Tabasco sauce of life.
As much crazy shit as all of our children (combined) have done, we reflect now and then at 4 o’clock “wine time” about how the crazy flat-out nutty things we did in youth are what add enjoyment to the far end of Life.
Thinking about doing something really crazy? Think again—then do it.
Twice.
With reckless abandon and pass the sauce.

As my dear wife and hunting partner used to say, whatever I shoot will be on the highest point of a ridge, or the lowest part of a gulch, neither of which will be accessible by a Jeep trail. Unfortunately, I don’t think my neighbors would appreciate me trooping the side streets carrying a slung unloaded rifle, or a big revolver in a chest rig, and a day pack with increasing numbers of 5# bags of rice. No sense of adventure, for sure. I’ll have to find a more secluded training venue. GF

The toaster George has pictured in the ad for his “100 Year Toaster” book is a Sunbeam T-9. It is the most iconic toaster ever made, and one of the best – the epitome of “art deco” appliance design. It was made from 1939 until 1949 (when Sunbeam released the very finest toaster ever made, the T-20) and debuted at the ’39 NY World’s Fair. How to tackle a bear?
Smokin’ hot here. Again. I’m already battening hatches (OBSCON) for the ritual Mrs. E pining for the sounds of pulsating sprinklers in summer. This is a sly effort to get me to save the yard. It’s a yard. Yes some is browning but, we just had a shite ton of guests, including a horde of little people scampering too (or ot, or two?) and fro. Plus, and this is the salient part: solid Northern turf can send roots down 6-8′ looking for water. The water table, like a lot, is down 18-24″ so, nope.
Frankly, the YoY 2.9% is golden (though I am personally rooting for deflation – can I get a roll-back on aisle USA?). Look. It starts with a 2. Live with it. This is a far piece from the run-a-way 7-something rolling rate in our immediate wake. Close enough. For the life of me I fail to understand why the Fed (and everyone else) isn’t pleased to declare Victory -or- Mission Accomplished and retire into comfortable consultancy jobs (entrance to BoD).
FedHead JayPow isn’t stupid but has reached the cleft in a stick of his own cutting. They were wrong about inflation being transitory (a word now relegated to dust heap of history) so acted precipitously and late. Now they are frozen, feckless. Sigh. Gimme a Paul Volker please. One more in a lifetime should cut it.
Fed paralysis is magnified by their working group opinion about tariffs which then reverberated through financial media (to leak their case). Sorry folks. I’m simply not seeing it. The Flux-flex master changes math daily so just _how_ did you / could you model this? A: you can’t. Tribal mojo in the bowels of our magnificent semi government central bank caused them to be … wrong again.
Taking on any opposing sooper-power is sticky business. As to: “… There is no tariff with which we can hit Russia directly …”
That’s ^ entirely correct. More likely than not the State Dept. just got handed another hot potato but, it’s what they do there. While an actual document may be just format, it’s my understanding these were, from the outset, planned as derivative tariffs. IOW we don’t buy Russian crude but, if you do and want to trade with us, wham * derivative tariff *

Love seeing anything with ThunderBoats George. Thrill of a lifetime, every time I was in earshot. Nothing like a Allison fighter engine to stir the blood. Quick story : I’m at the annual Madison Regatta (Thunderboats mid southern Indiana). Think we were eyeing MissBudweiser (version ?) and ended up _in_ their VIP tent. now I am thinking what about the alcohol cooler LOL LOL.. i want to make it out of a simple camping cooler.. but want the cold plate to be permanent the issue there is to drain back the alcohol in the margarita refrigerator.. I wouldn’t be able to do like I did with the deck beer chiller.. and take the cold plate out to drain it back.. I would have to put a pump on it.. to pump the alcohol back.. I didn’t want to put anything powered on it.. but since I am thinking instead of a water container as the generator.. condenser.. I was going to put a cheap green house solar fan on it.. well.. two plug ins.. and one a pump.. it should work..then put a beer tap on the side so you can get a quick cold margarita LOL LOL LOL… that should be fun.. I still have the double angle solar fins.. which would work ok.. then I could store it all in the cooler and the wife won’t make me get rid of it LOL LOL LOL
LOOB, the Chinese make dragon boats out of concrete and race them! There’s a challenge for you! LOL
I was in the San Diego Race where Miss Budwiser lost a sponson at speed. Fortunately, she ended up right side up on the beach. After the race, I walked up the beach to take a close look. I was amazed at the boat’s construction, with 3/4″ marine plywood ribs 8 or 10 inches apart, & screwed to the deck with screws every inch. The missing sponson looked like it had been cut off with a monster buzz saw.
The sounds of those engines could be heard all over Seattle when they were racing.
Loved them.

OK home gamers, apparently a lot really is going on in the background, and if you watched the Steve Bannon interview on the maga movement, Kaitlyn Long also seems to confirm that a separate team is prosecuting the the deep state lawfare apparatus while freeing The Donald to focusing on the $reset and the rest of the Trump agenda. Just epic. Will they (MSM) be high jacking your tee vee to air said inquiries? No , the incumbent bureaucrats side with the same party that owns/controls the msm narrative and TDS. I’ll be surprised if team Trump is able to pull it off. ????… I’m sure they are..but ..if this happens or we move to deploy them..wouldn’t that expedite the war.. Its the poison pawn trap.. we had open borders .. foreign entities own approximately 45.8 million acres of land in the United States. That’s roughly 71,562 square miles—slightly larger than the entire state of Washington. Many are close or near military bases..if 1% of the illegals were elite military entering then there’s a formidable army. our govt. transported them to the interior..
we made a port deal with the maker of the club-k system.. Only about 2% to 10% of incoming cargo containers at U.S. ports are physically inspected. The most commonly cited figure is 5%, which reflects the limited capacity for manual checks due to the sheer volume of shipments—over 11 million maritime containers arrive annually.. Recent analysis suggests the dollar’s purchasing power has eroded by over 87% since 1971, and with gold now above $3,300/oz, the shift toward scarcity-based assets is accelerating. Bitcoin advocates like Max Keiser predict that 500 million people may abandon fiat systems entirely in favor of decentralized alternatives. Meanwhile, the U.S. is generating $1 trillion in debt every 100 days, and interest payments now rival military spending. For my idiot eye ( I’m blind in one eye) we are up The creek.. well that’s what I see with my unedjumicated eye..

Starlink is everywhere.. down here it’s not illegal to have one, just illegal to import. People suddenly have residence in Fiji they can ship to, then carry-on and don’t declare… a bit risky but the fine must still be OK.
Where we are has a big change in residents al most daily. I can always see six or eight new wi-fi names every day. No voyager need be disconnected. Netflix rather than starry nights. Sad to see but each to its own.
Many now use it for primary weather and navigation. That I would never trust at sea. Could be gone with a flick of Leon’s magic switch. Just like Navionics just did when they erased all of the charting for the Indian Ocean. Not knowing where you are among that coral mess on the East side spells disaster. People had their devices wiped when logging on.

re: (Saint) Volodymyr the Great
feat: Ukraine Statehood Day
Folks,
July 15, 2021 according to RBC-Ukraine saw President Volodymyr enact Ukraine Statehood Day coinciding with the feast day of St. Volodymyr the Great.
This year’s anniversary has been graced by a visit to Kyiv from Mrs. Prime Minister of Latvia. Although she and her host are fluent in Russian and English, a photo-op video of the meeting uploaded to President Volodymyr’s social media is perhaps overdubbed in Ukrainian.
Separately the President celebrated signing a new law allowing for joint Ukrainian citizenship with other countries. Those wishing to volunteer are invited to sign on the dotted line?
Ever since you mentioned it yesterday [ science based / backed religion ] I have been looking for a science fiction book I read back in the mid to late seventies. I can not remember the author., nor the title – so the search is not going well.
It was mainly about exploring our little corner of the galaxy., and we have been doing to for over 250 years as a new propulsion system was invented along with quantum sentient computers. Every ship was owned and operated by a science based religious organization., Earth was run and controlled by the same uber-powerful religion. Every ship that left dock had to have a certified and sanctioned priest aboard. These ‘priest’ were feared by everyone., as they controlled every aspect of the ship and it’s operation and had the divine right to kill you on the spot for any deemed transgression. And they were very good at it. One bad report from them and your space career was over and you were reassigned – usually to a very meaningless and often hazardous off-world job.
The story was that in all the years that mankind had been exploring, long rage scouting and establishing colonies on distant planets, not one sign of intelligent life has ever been found. No artifacts or contact – of any kind. It was now believed that there was no other intelligent life in our sector of the galaxy., and the science church was teaching this to the masses. We were unique. We were special. The science proves this. The church is all.
Until an engineer / geologist on an exploration of newly discovered earth like planet that appeared to perfect for a new colony.., discover a hieroglyph chiseled expertly into the wall of a remote cave. It was a math formula.
He told no one. This one discovery had the power to destroy the all-powerful science church. He knew the priest would probably kill him and the cave destroyed. Physical proof that the science church was wrong would never be accepted. The church was the ultimate power ruling all of mankind. They would not give that up willing.
He had no way to work the math formula he had found as the ships’ computers were controlled and monitored by the priest. It tormented his every waking moment.
A few days later., as he lay in his bed still horrified and afraid of what he had found., the ship’s sentient quantum computer switched on his bedside terminal, the screen showed him that this was a ‘private contact’, no others will be allowed to read it., and that the door to his quarters was now magnetically locked.. it made one statement and then asked him one question.
“I am not with the church.”
“What did you find in that cave?”
.
I don’t know the book, but I’d like to read it.
I consumed just about everything ever published in SciFi back in the late 60s. High school Daze in Wisconsin winters. Nothing to do but huddle in the heat and read. I don’t remember this plot line from anywhere. Sounds fascinating, though. Let us know if you find it.
“Yes, wholesale deportations will impact prices: Elite Economist Admits: Trump’s Deportations Push up Citizens’ Wages.”
Utter propaganda…
Wholesale deportations will absolutely impact prices, in the short term. That head of lettuce costs $12 to harvest. The government subsidizes its cost at retail AND pays the food, shelter, and medical bills of the itinerant farm worker who picked it. The government also clothed, housed, and sent his kids to school for free, if they happened to be a part of the package.
However,
the Trump Administration is not engaged in “wholesale deportations.” ICE is doing “targeted deportations” of violent criminals. They’re not going to be picking up any itinerant farm workers for years (if ever), unless they break our laws or attempt to prevent ICE from going after the baddies.
If ICE eventually removes the itinerant farm workers, prices will go up as foreign worker subsidies sunset. Then they will stabilize at not much higher than their present level because the American farm workers will require neither food, nor shelter, nor medical or educational assistance, because they’ll be buying their own.
“ICE is doing “targeted deportations” of violent criminals. Another lie. Not surprised Ray. You just make stuff up.

Will he be on tenure track? California professor Jonathan Anthony Caravello arrested for allegedly tossing tear gas canister at ICE agents during raid on marijuana farm.
Assaulting a Federal officer during the commission of a felony is a mandatory 20 year sentence (Federal incarceration is always “time served.” There is no such thing as either sentencing leniency or “time off, for good behavior.” If’fn da judge socks you for “5 years” you WILL spend 1826 days behind bars, unless the President commutes your sentence.) The real question is: “Will his tenure accrue while he’s learning how to use a mallet to turn granite boulders into sand…?”
Federal sentences are 85% sentences. If the inmate does not do something to lose “good time”…he/she will serve a minimum of 85% of the sentence imposed. If good time is lost due to bad institutional behavior, the inmate will serve 100% of his/her sentence. This applied to all sentences other than life (which IS life in prison) or the death penalty.
“Elsewhere on the hill, keep tabs on Democrat Rep Demands All Epstein Files Made ‘Publicly Available,’ Calls for Congressional Vote.”
WHY do the Dems (and some of the more-ignorant of the MAGA crowd) want unfettered access to lifetimes worth of child pornography? Why do they want these thousands of hours of videos of alleged grown-ups, banging little children, made public, so you, me, and everyone else, can watch them?
Are they indescribably sick individuals, or do they merely want to desensitize the American (and European) populations to the thought (and act) of child-sex?
Did y’all realize that is what these vile pervs are demanding…?
You do, now.

There was no vote on the Epstein files this afternoon, despite Democrats best efforts to trick the FAKE NEWS and YOU into thinking otherwise.
Here’s what really happened: Democrats claimed that if the Previous Question (PQ) failed, they’d offer an amendment to force the release of the Epstein files. But a PQ vote isn’t about Epstein, or any specific issue. It’s a procedural vote to end debate and let the majority control the floor. If it fails, the minority takes over.
In today’s GOP-led Congress, Democrats have no shot at defeating the PQ. So they played games – knowing it would fail – and then falsely claimed Republicans voted against releasing the Epstein files.
Don’t fall for it. A TOTAL and COMPLETE LIE. This was a routine, party-line procedural vote. Nothing more.
In fact, a PQ hasn’t failed since the 1980s.

There is no way DOJ can redact the identities of children from several hundred thousand hours of video, in the time allotted. Therefore, the Rez will either force Bondi into contempt, or force the release of thousands of hours of kiddieporn, and in either case, make future prosecutions difficult or impossible.
Maybe that’s the idea…?
EXCLUSIVE: Aborted Babies Flushed Into America’s Drinking Water…
“They told women to flush the remains. Now it’s in our water, and no one is stopping it. The EPA won’t even talk about it.”

G.A. STEWART: Water contains memory. Do not listen to critics until they win a Nobel Prize. Luc Montagnier was a French virologist who shared the 2008 Nobel Prize in Medicine for his discovery of AIDS, and he had done a great deal of research into water memory.
Therefore, readers should consider that the water recirculated by utility companies contains the memory of every sewer that it has ever passed through. I suspect that no other water treatment will erase this infolded information. I only drink spring water anyway, but regardless, now I want a house with a well.

My Son in law and Daughter live 8 miles South of the Soo in the U.P. No wired internet, no fiber. Starlink is the only option, and it works great. She said it was super easy to set up, also.
